Do you (realistically) have any idea how long it would take to read the entirety of IM without a break? I'm forcing my friend to read it and I have no idea 🙏

Some people have read it in three weeks (did they eat? Sleep? Are they okay?) and others have taken months (life happens after all.) so everyone has their own pace and method of reading. Some like reading with our weekly updates and others like to wait and then binge read several chapters. There’s no wrong way to go about it…

Unless you are giving up sleep and food! That care of yourselves first!

i love how louis was always so reluctant to talk about his feelings (they’re basically two idiots obsessed with each other the whole fic and pretending not to, i just love them sm), but as soon as he found out that H actually wrote to him all those years he exposed himself. he’s immediately like “i’m sorry i was a dickhead to you all this time, you were too but that’s beside the point. and i actually want you very much”

imo, that’s why it hurts so much when they break up. like, obviously, louis is gonna be hurt, but the fact that he was so honest with harry and then he got that in return just makes it so much painful. that break up scene is the best one i’ve ever read, i was completely devastated. “you want us done? we’re done”. that line really stuck to me

“you were too but that’s besides the point” lmao that is very much the essence of Louis’ speech. they’ve been dickheads to each other but none of it matters. it’s all just optics, meant to disguise their true feelings.

i think I have karma to answer to for that break up scene lol… I know it’s brutal. like Harry is justified in his worries/fears but Louis also has a lot to worry or be afraid about. The stakes are just as high for them both but Louis is the only one who’s able to look past them.

Another thing that comes to mind in this moment is that Harry really is the bolder one when they’re younger. He’s the first to say I love you. He very firmly tells Louis that he’s not leaving when Louis’ father is forcing him to. But back then, that version of Harry was also mostly, if not completely, confident that he would just figure out how to break his curse. And in the future, after several dead ends and his devastating vision, he’s just not confident or hopeful at all. So it’s just a sad scene all around. Especially when you have Louis who’s like full of hope and optimism and excitement about their future together, however brief it may be.

One of the things I’ve been exploring offline in like Louis’ expanded POV is his mindset before and during their breakup. And like Louis obviously knows something is off with Harry. Like he may not know about the vision yet, but he knows there’s something Harry isn’t telling him that he’s struggling with.

I’m actually just going to share these clips below:

“He doesn’t really want to ruin their time in Edinburgh, but eventually, he’ll have to question Harry about whatever it is he’s hiding. Because Zayn was right that Harry occasionally smells of fear.

Fear smells like the sudden profusion of sweat and the increase of oxygen in one’s bloodstream. Harry’s heartbeat will quicken or the breath will momentarily pause and then rush through his lungs. His gaze might even drift away. To anyone else, those occurrences would be imperceptible, but not for Louis’ kind. Louis catches them all, particularly in the moments when they discuss their future.

He wants it to be nothing, but he knows deep down that it’s not. So, in that case, whatever it is, they can only hope to manage it together, the way they’ve managed almost everything else.”

And also, from the actual breakup:

“Maybe Louis is the fool. Because here he’s been, preparing himself to suffer with Harry and to make the most of that suffering when Harry never intended to do the same. Here he’s been, believing the suffering would be worth it for all the joy they could also have. He never saw this coming, so surely the foolish one is him. “What’s all this been the last few days if you don’t want this?” Louis asks.”
