'I'm sea sick wow this is all over the place, it's obviously a ship in a storm but I just can't tell which way the wind's blowing. It's kind of crazy but it's very beautiful crazy. I think that it carries on, if you take the frame away it will carry on all over the place.' - Poet and writer Benjamin Zephaniah (1958-2023)

Artist Research - J.M.W.Turner
J.M.W.Turner is an English romantic painter He is known for his expressive colouring, imaginative landscapes, and turbulent, often violent marine paintings.
I decided to look at Turners work as he was an artist that we covered in our CCS classes and I came across the work above which relates back to my concept. This piece is called “Tintern Abbey”the subject of this piece is in the fusion of nature and civilization. At first glance the abbey seems simply crumbling and broken, but it is covered in overgrown vines and leaves. The nearly monochromatic use of color creates a cohesive look throughout the piece. By rendering the building and the nature that is covering it in similar tones, Turner unifies the two contrasting objects.
I found Turners work interesting as his delicate art style is very pleasing to the eye as well as the concept of his work is closely knit to mine as it shows the way natures moves into civilisation.
