K-Tel must have been been low on original names: they released “20 Explosive Hits” in 1971 and “22 Explosive Hits” [in small print next to the price sticker: “Volume 2″] in 1972.
Also, and this is just me who has some eclectic musical knowledge but doesn’t claim to know everything: For sure I know 11 off the first and 5 off the second, though probably know a few more at hearing them, so maybe in the early 70s they were ‘explosive’ but now about half of this music gets zero airplay, even the stuff by big names like Tommy James and The Osmonds. [edit: YouTubed all of the unfamiliars... For sure I did not know 7 off the first or 14 off the second, and two of the songs I know but as done by other people.]
I leave you now with this track off the second album: Hot Butter - “Popcorn”, a song that TV and radio stations would play chunks of in ads and bumpers all the time but not necessarily play the whole damned song on its own.
