#Kairi. Roxas. then Ventus and still Roxas

@ your tags on my post, i am shaking you like a maraca and yelling "YESSSSS"
i wanna see how kh3 tackles that whole thing because it's so eerily similar to what happens in the manga. and in the manga, he is in so much pain and agony, AND HE'S STILL FIGHTING. ROXAS IS THERE WITH HIM, HIS ONLY COMPANION, and then kh3 just tripped and fell on the glass table.
also, i think about this constantly, i want them to do something with it so bad.
Tumblr media
YEA i cant wait to see the rest of kh3 manga chapters and how they handle everything, i especially loved the manga versions for days and kh2 and the way their stories were told - even tho kh3 has a Lot going on that might be hard to show well.. amano's been good at it so far tho so i have faith :]
but yeah that whole thing with Roxas is just . oughh. im not gonna lie even i forgot that Roxas was like. still there with Sora when he perishes until i thought abt it writing those tags but now that ive realized that. why the hell did they not take advantage of that!!!! like ok i get that it was more focused on the destiny trio in the ways i talked abt in the tags but yknow. what happened to "he makes up the difference"?? that wouldve been a great moment for it to shine!! ik they already make an example of it during the Xemnas n Saïx fight but still!!
part of me wishes Roxas couldve have more outward influence on Sora the way Ven did. granted, he arguably had an affect on Sora back in kh2, and while i dont remember if it was canon or even intended, that could be applied to both his appearance (his lighter hair, mostly) and his behavior (his hostility towards the organization members; ive seen this argued both as smth Roxas had influence over and purely based on Soras experiences thus far, and i believe in both personally) but Ven in kh3 was literally able to speak and somewhat act through him. im pretty sure this was meant to show that Ven was fully ready to awaken or smth like that, and that wasnt sonething that was needed for Roxas; hes alright, just needed a body/vessel for himself. but i still think itd be a cool way to express the earlier sentiment. and it wouldnt necessarily have to be Roxas "taking over" either, the manga shows very well how Roxas gives Sora strength from within and that he definitely does make a difference
to be fair tho...... whether that wouldve helped Sora in the moment that he gives in to his despair, im not sure. in kh2, both manga and game, hes in a very different mindset than kh3. in that part of the manga especially, despite thinking everyone (except Roxas) is gone for good, he still has the belief that they can live on within him. and that, plus the literal strength hes getting from Roxas, is keeping him going despite it all. in kh3 his self confidence is beyond fucked, and he truly believes in that moment that hes lost Everything, not just his friends. thats hard to come back from
i wonder if he were to remember that Roxas were still there, if that wouldve helped. whether for comfort in the way that hes not really alone then, or for motive to keep living bc if he dies then Roxas is gone too, or whatever reason, i think it couldve changed something, even if its just a little bit. hell, itd have been great if something like that happened afterwards in the final world. id like to think Roxas had a hand in Sora surviving ..... not sure how but its a nice thought. either way i do wish Sora n Roxas' connection and that moment they have in san fransokyo had more....... More. in kh3. it was a great opportunity that they didnt use/forgot about n im now sad abt it forever

Started thinking about Kingdom Hearts character classpects and now that KH3 has given Sora a new aspect to fill I have honestly never had characters slot so cleanly into unique classes and aspects before. Enjoy my self indulgent mental experiment:
Sora - Rogue of Time (one who steals from time for the benefit of others)
Kairi - Muse of Space (one whose agency is denied but inspires the actions of others)
Riku - Seer of Life (one who benefits themselves with knowledge of life and uses it to guide)
Roxas - Heir of Heart (heir of identity/self/soul)
Xion - Sylph of Doom (one who heals for others through death/fate/doom)
Naminé- Thief of Mind (one who steals mind/thoughts/consequence)
Axel - Page of Blood (one who creates bonds/provides others with bonds and serves the bonds created)
Saïx - Lord of Void (one who has command over emptiness/commands the emptiness of others)
Vanitas - Witch of Rage (one who creates negativity/creates using negative emotions) OR Bard of Blood (one who invites destruction through bonds)
Ventus - Maid of Breath (one who provides freedom/confidence, one who tends to freedom/confidence)
Aqua - Knight of Hope (one who serves and protects hope/ideology)
Terra - Mage of Light (one who arms themselves through the pursuit of knowledge/one who is manipulated through their pursuit of knowledge)

Wanted to do something to test out the heart hotel hair/skin/eyes I had. ended up doing this based on an old photo I found because holy crap is it hard to find a picture with seven kids in it.
#kingdom hearts#heart hotel#kh sora#kh namine#naminé#kh kairi#kh ventus#kh Vanitas#kh Xion#kh Roxas#kh#Yes I consider Kai and Nami to be part of the heart hotel Kai is actively one of two people to use the hotel without already being a Sora#Nami is technically a Sora#for real tho they’re more like honorary members but were here because they were on The Sheet#I should probably post The Sheet#I’m probably happiest with Naminé in this drawing but I love Sora’s littol pirate outfit#note: Sora has tricoloured eyes! they are mainly blue (wayfinder Ventus) with a green starburst (og Ventus (not pictured))#with yellow flecks (Vanitas)#khux Ven had green eyes. after the split Ventus got blue and Vanitas hot yellow. they are both vaguely unnerved by this.#Sora’s eyes were originally grey! they turned after he sheltered Ventus+Vanitas. he still has baby pictures with grey though!#both Naminé and Xion have Sora’s blue eyes. Roxas has Kairi’s#Naminé got Ventus’ blonde! Roxas is definitely blonde BECAUSE of Ven but he got a unique shade :)#similarly Xion got black hair from Vanitas but her’s is also a unique shade! who fucking knows where Vani got his black from tho#Kairi and Ventus are to blame for everyone else having blue eyes. this is funny to me#og Ventus didn’t even have blue eyes#Sora and Roxas have the same skin colour! everyone else’s is unique#blue boi draws#digital art#fanart#thinking about it Roxas’ hair is sorta Strawberry blonde/has a ginger tint which is probably Kai’s influence

THE CHARACTERS IN KINGDOM HEARTS (A.K.A. the reason why I can't introduce Kingdom Hearts to my friends)
1. VENTUS
2. SORA (The heart that Ventus' heart found refuge in)
3. VANITAS (The other half of Ventus who was born out of the darkness of Ventus' heart and who looks like Sora if Sora had dark hair and was evil)
4. DATA SORA (Sora but it's not actually Sora)
5. ROXAS (Sora's other half who looks like Ventus)
6. XION (The reflection of Sora's other half who looks like Sora but also like Sora's girlfriend)
7. NAMINÉ (Sora's girlfriend's other half who is also made out of Sora so that's why she can control Sora's memories)
8. KAIRI (Sora's girlfriend and also a princess of heart)
9. RIKU (Sora's dream-eater who is also Sora's childhood friend who is also Sora's rival who is also Sora's mentor who is also Sora's boyfriend)
10. DATA RIKU (Riku but it's not actually Riku, he's just here because he's Sora's - and by extension Data Sora's - most precious person)
11. REPLIKU (A fake Riku who looks like Riku when Riku was possessed by the bad guy in the first game)
12. RIKU-ANSEM (Riku when Riku was possessed by the bad guy, so not actually Riku even though he looks and sounds like Riku)
13. ANSEM (The king of Kairi's homeworld who everybody thought was the bad guy in the first game but who actually turns out to be a good guy because the bad guy was actually another guy who pretended to be Ansem)
14. DiZ (Ansem when Ansem didn't want to be Ansem anymore)
15. XEHANORT (Ansem's assistant who is the bad guy who pretended to be Ansem - there's a version of him who's an old fart and a version of him who's a little shit)
16. XEHANORT'S HEARTLESS (Xehanort but not actually Xehanort, but still the bad guy in the first game who pretended to be Ansem and ended up possessing Riku)
17. XEMNAS (Xehanort but without a heart, also the leader of Organization XIII and also a super hot villain with a super hot voice)
18. XIGBAR ("mE? i'M aLrEaDy HaLf XeHaNoRt!")
Obviously, this is FAR from the worst of it...

I got the sudden urge to share about an AU, and I actually think it’s one I’ve never talked about here before?
Anyway, it’s just for fun, but a while ago I decided to make a Pixie Hollow AU. I liked the first couple Tinker Bell movies a lot as a kid, so it’s fun for me to revisit that world now. (The AU takes place in Pixie Hollow/Neverland, but the characters themselves are all from KH. Most of them would be KHUX-style keykids, but they’re not exclusively from any one point on the KH timeline)
As far as world building goes, it’s mostly the same as the movie. The fairies are born from dandelion seeds + children’s laughter (perfect, right?) and end up in Pixie Hollow. There, they choose their talent and work to prepare for the change of the seasons. There’s a minister who oversees each season, in addition to a ruler over all of the fairies. (I think in the later movies they made it so the winter fairies are separate from the rest, but I’m choosing to ignore that since… it wasn’t really a thing back when I was watching them.)
They do still have Keys, but they’re lost keys that become magical when they appear in Neverland. They can all open any lock, but additional abilities will depend on the wielder’s talent.
So now to the fun part—assigning talents!
First, the seasons:
Ava is the Minister of Spring, Gula is Minister of Summer, Invi is Minister of Winter, and Aced is Minister of Autumn. Similar to his role in Back Cover, Ira is the king in charge of overseeing them. (And yes, Aced would still prefer to have Ira’s role as leader!)
Tumblr media
I made concept designs for them when I first came up with the AU, but now I’d probably change the masks to make them simpler. Dust-keepers:
Sora
Skuld
Player
Vor
The Dust-keepers store/distribute rations of pixie dust. It’s a somewhat mundane job, but all of the other talents depend on them to keep things running. Sora of course is happy to have a role supporting his friends, and Player and Skuld are known for being dependable helpers as well. Vor is the most unsatisfied with her talent, and will often get in trouble for flying off to do fun things with the others.
Garden talents:
Kairi
Lauriam
Strelitzia
Sigrun
These four are chosen for fairly obvious reasons, haha. They help to plant and grow flowers on the ‘mainland’. Lauriam and Strelitzia are still siblings, in the sense that they’re seeds from the same dandelion that were enchanted by the laughter of two human siblings.
Water talents:
Aqua
Hermod
Xion
Roxas
Water talents are in charge of rain, morning dew, ponds, etc. Xion spends her free time with Roxas looking for seashells around mermaid lagoon.
Frost talents:
Xehanort
Urd
Baldr
Heimdall
Frost talents are in charge of making snowflakes and ice. They’re great at what they do, but have a bit of a rivalry with the garden fairies after an incident of freezing their flowers... Baldr and Hoder are ‘siblings’ like Lauriam and Strelitzia. Hoder chose her talent first, and Baldr almost picked the same to stay with her. However, he ultimately felt more called to be a Frost talent.
Light talents:
Eraqus
Hoder
Vidar
Elrena
Odin
Light talents are in charge of storing light, making rainbows, guiding sunbeams, and looking after fireflies. They’re also the ones who melt snow when it’s time for spring to arrive—so there’s a bit of irony in Eraqus and Xehanort’s friendship. Hoder probably would’ve preferred her brother becoming a light fairy, but they still spend plenty of time together outside of their roles. Elrena is something of an odd one out, as she creates lightning and works with the water fairies to make storms. Odin is primarily a ‘supervisor’ figure for them.
Fast-flying talents:
Ventus
Vanitas
Vali
Vala
The Fast-flying talents use wind to transport seeds and pollen. They make deliveries and send messages thanks to their incredible speed. They also guide newcomers to Pixie Hollow.
Vala and Vali are close friends, but Vanitas and Ventus don’t get along well. Vanitas is competitive, while Ven is much more easygoing. Sora was a fairy Ven guided, so he got to see him choose his talent.
Tinker talents:
Ephemer
Brain
Naminé
Remus
Tinkers are in charge of everything that needs to be made or designed. Ephemer and Brain are always working together on a new gadget to help the other talents. Naminé is more of an artist, so she’s interested in finding and restoring lost things. She often helps people to remember something they’ve forgotten by returning their lost item. (I put Remus here even though we don’t know much about him, because he seems to have an interest in ‘lost things’ as well.)
Scout talents:
Riku
Terra
Helgi
Bragi
Last but not least—the scouts! They’re in charge of keeping an eye out for hawks, pirates, and any other potential threats. It’s the most dangerous talent by far, but they’re determined to protect their friends. (Bragi in this AU is not ‘Luxu’, he’s just himself!)
Starlight. Where are the animal talent fairies?
So, they exist, but they’re mostly just the generic keykids I mentioned before. I’m honestly not sure who out of the main characters would fit as an animal talent…
Regarding other characters: I’ve limited the fairies to just the Keyblade wielders, excluding Lea. The others exist in the AU, but they’re either mainland humans or pirates, haha. Roxas and Xion would eventually befriend the (human) Lea and Isa, but that’s a story for another time.

Things heard in the Land of Departure Pt. 4:
1 | 2 | 3 | extra
Aqua: Oh please, My mastery credentials are just a scrap of notebook paper that say “can hit orb with giant key,” I am in no way qualified to mediate a fight to the death!
Sora: Hi Terra any advice for your students?
Terra: Give up, it’s safer for everyone involved.
Roxas: Gee thanks…😐
Riku: In times of crisis always remember, if it ain’t your circus you cannot be held responsible for the actions of those monkeys.
Ventus: *staring at the ceiling* please for the love of the gods, I’m begging you with every fibre of my being, just let me sleep!
Roxas: who are you talking to?
Vanitas: *from under the bed* me.
Roxas: THE FUCK?!?!
Xion: todays the day I train without embarrassing myself! *immediately trips and face plants Terras chest*
Vanitas: so you all just… try to murder eachother?
Sora: with boundaries.
Vanitas: murder with boundaries ?
Sora: yeah I heard it as soon as I said it.
Lea: if I can’t see it I didn’t set it on fire.
Kairi: hypothetically, you could use your keyblade as a giant shish kabob!
Riku: hypothetically you could not.
Sora: I don’t suffer from foot in mouth disease, I excel at it!
Isa: I’ve done many things in my life: I’ve been the right hand of a mad man; I’ve mutilated my own face out of loyalty; I’ve tripped headfirst into love the minute I regained a heart; and insulted Squall Leonhart to his face… yet nothing has this far terrified me quite like the 4”11, red headed, ball of female rage I currently have to train with.
Riku: you are a fuck head Roxas! A fuck fuck fuckety fuck head from fuck ville fuckania… and so’s your dad!
Roxas: *mouthing silently* Woooow
Vanitas: I don’t know whether to be impressed that I’m not the most psychotic person here or disturbed…
Ventus: I like having Van here, it means I can exact my revenge outside of the reach of the law!
Terra: how’s it going boys?
Riku: *laying on the floor next to Vanitas* We are barely holding on. The worlds are still in disarray, and we are still crippled by the weight of our past transgressions. If we are left unchecked we will decend once more into the depths of darkness never to return.
Terra: I meant how is cleaning going?
Vanitas: badly
Xion: *to Naminé* we’ve totally nailed sneaking you into training Aqua hasn’t even noticed!
Aqua: *without looking up* I noticed.
Naminé and Xion: fuck.
Sora: Riku said he didn’t love me anymore!😭
Riku: No, I said you couldn’t justifiably knock yourself out with a sleep spell every time you encounter a minor inconvenience…
Lea: on a scale of one to fuck I am a solid “can’t feel my toes”
Kairi: what did we learn?!
Vanitas: that your a fucking lunatic?!?
Kairi: And??
Vanitas: Zehanort didn’t fucking know what he was unleashing on the world!
Isa: I would like to go on record here and say that never in my life have I called someone a cotton headed ninny muggins, but I’m about to!
Roxas: run be over I can take it!
Xion: No! He can’t take it!
Naminé: Aqua I want to be a keyblade wielder
Aqua: And I want a house on destiny islands with a shirtless Terra to fan and feed me grapes!
Naminé: …
Aqua: Oh you were serious?!

You know, I was only really thinking of Riku feeling Terra within Ansem SOD when it came to the "a true friend will see you for who you, no matter the face you wear" quote at the time but...that also pertains to quite a few more moments.
He initially sees Xion with Sora's face but he still acknowledges her as her own person and treats her as someone with the agency to make her own decisions. He recognizes Ansem the Wise even though he wears Ansem SOD's face and recognizes Namine even though she was wearing Kairi's face.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(It kinda makes Ansem the Wise's treatment towards him even sadder.)
Riku sees Ventus in 3D and realizes he's not Roxas.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Riku only considers Roxas as truly Sora's Nobody once Sora responds from within Roxas despite ATW telling him directly that Roxas is (meaning he saw him as his own person) and Riku tells Replica Riku he's not him despite Replica Riku's claim otherwise.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In KH3, I feel like Riku was teasing him by saying "the other me" bc this above was one of their last interactions in COM and it's actually in character for him to do that to people he's fond of (he even leaves the guy a weapon to defend himself with). It wouldn't make an ounce of sense for him to act like Replica Riku is another him after all of this. He treats him as someone with agency in KH3 ("take the time you need"), continuing his thread of behavior like with Xion.
I also want to suggest that maybe Riku was more susceptible to Ansem SOD because of all this. He trusted Terra after their meeting in BBS and Terra was very much present the entire time.
A, uh, perhaps not so happy extra note is he failed to notice Kairi inside Sora in KH1. As far as we know, of course. If he did know, it'd reframe an incredible amount of the game so I wouldn't be too shocked. Whether Riku knows what Kairi smells like is kind of up in the air because of what he says in COM and RE:COM. He could've simply been talking about the illusion of Kairi as it wouldn't make much sense for Namine and Kairi to smell the same...as they are different people and he recognized Namine as someone different.
Otherwise, Riku was simply saying they smell the same and somehow he told the difference despite that. Not quite sure that checks out. Why would he even bring up their smell at all if so? Could he feel their hearts were different or something? Where's the original Japanese for this? I tend to read this scene as the former because Riku failed to recognize Selphie, Tidus, Wakka, and Kairi as mere illusions in COM Destiny Islands until they disappeared. He also, quite sadly, thought Zexion was truly Sora at first. That could've been simply because he was desperate to see him though. Sora was the person Riku wanted to see the most, after all, and Riku does end up smelling Zexion (someone he ends up interacting with quite a bit in KH3).
So what's the point of this post? Nothing much, I guess. I just really like this aspect of Riku's character. He'll say positive things about others that could easily be applied to himself too. Humble guy. I'm looking forward to his relationship with Yozora.
Maybe he'll see his true face.

imagine, if you will, the Final World segment of KH3, but shortly after Sora wakes up, he remembers everything that happened. he recalls Ventus' corpse getting thrown, Axel being pummeled, Aqua giving into despair, Kairi swept away, Riku dissipating into darkness.
He starts to tear up, barely able to realise where he is. Just remembering how everyone got ripped away from him. How ready he is to give up, without his friends...
But out of nowhere, someone speaks up for the first time in a long time. When Sora opens his teary eyes, he can actually see him there. Wearing that same black coat, knelt down in the endless watery sky, hands reaching out to grab hold of Sora's shoulders and provide any comfort he could.
Despite everything being lost to him, Roxas still hadn't left Sora. Roxas was always here for him, and if Sora ever faltered, he would make up the difference.

There's something so cruel about how Sora had to carry the weight of multiple people's feelings alongside his own.
We, as people, already struggle to handle our emotions but imagine feeling two, or three, or four or more people's emotions as well. Like in Dream Drop, imagine taking in Roxas's grief and trauma within a single moment. Or feeling Ventus's own urges to save his friends throughout KH3. It's not shown as much with Xion or Vanitas, but I'd like to imagine that he felt echoes of what they felt in waves. And heck, while we're at it, how about anyone who was in his heart for some time, like Kairi.
Even if Sora wasn't feeling all of those feelings constantly, could you imagine being just overfilled with others' memories and the emotions they felt directly as if it was you experiencing it?
I think about that moment with Roxas a lot and remain in awe that Sora could keep moving forward after that. That game had him getting hit with a barrage of people and emotions, and he still kept fighting until it literally broke his heart enough to make him susceptible to being possessed by darkness.
That one quote from Xigbar about putting too much power (or in this case, feelings) in one place might break it haunts me in my dreams.

Some ML fans are hoping that Season 6 will make everything from the season 5 finale clearer, that the finale is supposed to set up the next season. Respectfully, I disagree. Setting up the next season should be a secondary purpose of the finale. The primary purpose should be resolving at least some of the previously-built-up plotlines. Especially when the finale is supposed to resolve a multi-season arc, particularly in defeating the overarching villain and dealing with all of the plot points that were directly tied to them, particularly when one of the main protagonists (the villain's son) is left out of the whole thing and never told the truth about both his father (who he's finally started to stand against) and the villain he's been fighting for five seasons. Doing a poor job of wrapping up those plot points should not mean that the next season is left to deal with what should have already been tidied up. Sequel baiting should not override finishing the story that was already being told. There is a reason why Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and The Amazing Spider-Man 2 were criticized for putting too much focus on setting up sequels.
Compare this season finale to Kingdom Hearts III, another "end of an era" installment and the resolution to the Xehanort Saga. That game put a lot of focus on setting up the next saga, but it never forgot what its purpose was. Everyone who was lost and left to a bad fate in previous installments was rescued and made whole. Each villain was given a proper sendoff, even the ones who we would expect to see again. Everyone got to face their particular nemeses again and in some cases vanquish them personally. (Roxas, Axel and Xion fought Xemnas and made peace with Saïx; Aqua and Ventus faced Terranort and Vanitas again, and Terra reclaimed his body and eliminated that incarnation of Xehanort for good; Riku AND Riku Replica overcame the physical manifestation of their dark past selves and mistakes; Sora and Riku (as well as Mickey) defeated Ansem and Xemnas once and for all, and they also defeated Young Xehanort even though the earliest version of the villain was unconcerned; and Sora, Donald and Goofy fought and defeated Master Xehanort. Re:Mind even gave Kairi the chance to fight by Sora's side and defeat another incarnation/Replica of Xehanort.) Now let's talk about the final battle. Sora, Donald and Goofy, with all of their friends helping keep Kingdom Hearts stable, fought and defeated Master Xehanort. Despite being barely able to stand, Xehanort did not want to give up, before Sora and the heart ghost of Master Eraqus convinced him to let go. What did Xehanort do then? He entrusted the light to Sora and gave him the χ-blade, then faded away to enter the afterlife with his old friend. Then Sora fixed everything, and went off to recover Kairi while sacrificing himself.
Would you look at that? Kingdom Hearts III resolved all of its major plot points while still setting up future conflicts. No one kept secrets from their friends, everyone had their moments of catharsis, the villain was not vindicated even if the game turned around to try to make his goals sympathetic at the last minute, and the heroes. Actually. Won.
Oh, and while there are still mysteries and things left to interpretation, the game still made a point to clarify what was going on in front of us.
A later episode in a season can make earlier episodes make sense, but it shouldn't be left to the next season to explain things that the season finale refuses to resolve. If the next season is necessary to make this season good, this season was not and never will be good.

You know watching that clip of Roxas wanting to know the truth of his origins I can't help but laugh nervously like oh Roxas sweetheart honeybun trust me you do not want to know because the truth is so much worse than he thinks in canon.
Cause you think it's pretty simple right? Sora gives up his heart thus Roxas is born. Oh but he looks like Ven? Well makes sense Ven was released alongside Sora's heart and made its way to Roxas. But then we have to get to the how and why they ended up like that in the first place. Cause if you think about it too long like I did you realize jesus christ the road to Roxas creation was paved with blood and mass murder O_O
In order for Roxas to be born Ventus has to be in the future (present? whatever time travel is wonky) and he has to end up alone in the keyblade graveyard and be abused for a year by xehanort and then get dumped on the destiny islands to die. But before that we have to go back to the age of fairy tales when Ven is a union leader traps an original Darkness within himself nearly dying in the process and everyone figures out that MoM essentially is using them as live bait to trap the other darkness' and leave the dandelions to die. But before we get to that we have to go back a year to when MoM purposefully sowed the seeds of discord amongst his apprentices so their friendship would fracture and the fissures would go to the unions causing everyone to turn on each other. Tensions start rising and before we know it a full blown war breaks out and thousands of children are sacrificed as they cut each other down and MoM is just off to the side watching all this like, "yeah this is an acceptable turn of events I am absolutely okay instigating the slaughter of thousands of innocent children and destruction of the world to defeat darkness this is indeed a worthwhile and good plan :)"
But before even that we have to go to like 10 minutes before (well 2 years and 10 minutes before I guess) because Strelitzia was meant to be a union leader but she was obsessed with player and wanted to save them from the keyblade war, and Darkness chose her to be a necessary sacrifice by taking advantage of a little boy's pain and loneliness and swapping their places. Had they not done that Ven likely would've died in the keyblade war meaning none of the following events post war would've played out the way it needed to for Roxas to exist.
So going back to Sora his heart joins with a traumatized and dying Ven as a newborn saving him. Then 4 years go by and Ven seeks sanctuary with Sora after almost dying again. This puts Sora within Xehanort's path and Sora's world eventually falls. His love and conviction for his friends keeps him going but he ends up having to fight his best friend seemingly to the death and has to essentially kill himself to wake up the love of his life not even sure if he'll survive what he's about to do. So before he dies he gives one last big grin and prepares to meet his fate like Ven has before him. And it is the release of Kairi and Ven's wounded heart that leads to Roxas being born.
All it took was a megalomaniac keyblade master deciding yeah the painful death of thousands of children and countless worlds plus the death of a few hundred is absolutely worth trapping darkness but his plan goes a bit sideways and the union leaders escape and manage to build back some of the world that inevitably leads Xehanort to his own crazy scheme and the egging on of the hidden 6th apprentice also manipulating things behind the scenes and destroying the innocence and lives of two innocent boys who only ever wanted to be with their friends and live their lives with them. And we still haven't fully touched on Vanitas which is a different can of worms. If even one bad thing deviated or didn't happen no Roxas. So everything had to go perfectly wrong for everyone for him to be here.
So yeah Roxas are you sure you wanna know where you came from or why? Are you sure you want to burden the full knowledge when even the one's who paid the price currently don't? Is it really worth it Roxas? Is it?
The sheer amount of events in the Kingdom Hearts timeline that exists solely due to an insane domino effect the likes of which humanity has never before seen is frankly ridiculous.
What if Baldr never succumbed to darkness and killed every single one of his friends except Xehanort and Eraqus (and BragiLuxu)? Xeha and Eraqus would've never had their views of Darkness vs Light twisted so much that they became extreme extremists. Without Xehanort doing his. thing. the entire plot of "current day" Kingdom Hearts would not have happened. Same thing goes for the what-if of Xehanort never leaving Destiny Islands.
Similarly, what would've happened if the Destiny trio never left Destiny Islands/DI never fell to darkness in KH1?
What if Strelitzia never died and got replaced by Ven? Or, what if one of the other Union Leaders was killed by darkness? What if the Foretellers never fought each other?
Of course, this all leads back to "what if the Master of Masters wasn't who he is as a person."
Roxas is the culmination of hundreds, if not thousands of years of bloodshed and interfered destiny all represented by a singular teenage nobody who eats a lot of ice cream and cares a lot about a lot of different things (most of all, his friends)

honestly it would have been a lot cooler if xions appearance wasnt based off sora's memories of kairi and rather something distinctly hers. her face isnt even hers. :(

Enjoy this sneak peak at my next Riku/Sora oneshot, "Return From the Brink"! I hope to have the full version out soon!
-_-_-_-_-_-_-
Disney Town was always so lively and bright, filled with laughter, chatter, and various exclamations of glee. When they were hosting a party, that was heightened exponentially– especially a birthday party which was exactly the occasion today. Their dear Kairi was turning seventeen, and you could definitely tell she was the birthday girl based on her state of dress. Kairi’s short red hair had purple orchids woven through in vine-like patterns that matched her dark purple tank top with lilac fabric ruffles on the sleeves and over the chest that had all sorts of sparkles. The redhead was wearing white jeans with black boots to go along with it, and over everything she was wearing a sash that stated her position as birthday girl, a tiara, and all sorts of buttons and pins of the birthday variety that Xion and Naminé had enjoyed placing all over her between giggles. Riku had watched in amusement while they had all finished getting ready in one of the living areas of Disney Castle. Now, though, they were all gathered outside having fun. They were in between scheduled activities, allowing everyone to do what they wished. Terra, Aqua, Mickey, Minnie, and Isa were playing some kind of card game while observing everyone else. Donald and Goofy were working with Huey, Dewey, and Louie to make the tallest possible ice cream cone. Yen Sid and Merlin were running tests on the fireworks show they had prepared for later in the evening to ensure there wouldn’t be any hiccups. Kairi was enjoying a friendly dance-off with Lea– Kairi was being backed by Ventus and Naminé while Lea was backed by Roxas and Xion. Xion had originally seemed intent on backing Kairi, but she couldn’t switch her loyalties from one of her first best friends like that. Lea, Roxas, and Xion were inseparable as a trio, after all, especially now that they could all completely accept the fact that they had their own hearts and emotions. It had been an entertaining journey to watch Roxas, Xion, and Naminé figure out what it was like to have their own hearts, even if it had led to a few embarrassing moments of needing to explain societal norms. The sex talk had been uncomfortable for all involved, and no one let Lea forget that he was the one to make the innuendo that started it all. They had grown into themselves, though, and the three were flourishing. Everyone was.
Well, almost everyone.
Riku was sitting alone against the wall of a nearby building in the shade, silently watching everyone else enjoy themselves. He really did want to join in on the fun– he wanted to be able to truly smile with them– but he just couldn’t. All of these bright colors, the laughter, the joy… It all reminded him so much of Sora. Sora who was somewhere unknown, most likely by himself, and far out of Riku’s reach. His dear, sweet, sunshine Sora had been gone for a year and a half, and Riku hadn’t been able to relax much since he disappeared. He still made routine checks once a month to each world they knew of to ask the residents they knew if anyone had any leads on Sora, but it was always answered in the negative. Many of them had said that he was most likely gone permanently and had tried to convince Riku to focus on other things. He knew that they meant well, but he vehemently refused. Even the idea of giving up on Sora made his skin crawl. The only other ones who seemed as certain as him that Sora was even still alive were those who had literally lived in his heart at one point. Even so, it seemed that Kairi, Naminé, Ventus, and Xion were beginning to suspect they had been wrong. Roxas was the only one Riku could talk to without being told to stop looking and just to give up. Roxas had been a lifeline for Riku ever since Sora’s disappearance, and wasn’t that ironic? The person Riku had worked so hard to destroy and return to Sora now was one of the few things keeping the silveret sane.
.........
“... Riku?” came a shaky, disbelieving whisper.
Riku jumped up and whipped around, his aquamarine blown wide as they met confused and fearful sapphire. Riku couldn’t believe his eyes. He reached his hands up to scrub at his eyes before looking again to see that the boy was still there.

Okay something that's really fucking with me rn is the fact that both xehanort and baldr could sense people's hearts and that that's what drove baldr to the darkness, which then led to xehanort going down the same path
So basically their ability to sense other people's hearts, and the loss they experienced adding onto their vulnerability, drove them both insane and they became antagonists. It's probably fair to say that they were more susceptible to resorting to darkness BECAUSE of their high empathy
And that's so fucking interesting knowing sora ALSO has the ability to sense people's hearts to the point where he can actually connect to them like he did with ventus, and he has also gone through grief and loss and yet never fell to darkness
UNLESS you count rage/anti form, which we still don't know much about at all save for the fact that xehanort was somehow able to force sora into rage form in kh3 (maybe that was related to xehanort's ability to sense sora's heart? He could've been able to yank it out of him while he was still affected by kairi's death)
What makes it even more notable is vanitas, now that we know that he was originally one of the ancient darknesses. What I'm wondering is if the reason why sora hasn't fallen to darkness yet is because of vanitas' presence in his heart? As in, could vanitas have unknowingly been protecting sora after ventus, roxas and xion left his heart? There's a possibility that vanitas was still residing in sora's heart even after the others were returned to their own bodies, and if that's the case then what would death look like for them? Sora is in quadratum for sure, but what about vanitas?

Had Sora possess The Power of Waking when he was 14 he could save Kairi's heart without becoming a Heartless but Roxas and Namine would never be born
Ventus still won't come out since Sora didn't know he was there
