In Cinderella Tales From Around the World, I've now reached the versions from the Middle East, Africa, and South Asia: Iran, Palestine, Nigeria, Angola, Sri Lanka, India, and Kashmir.

*The Iranian variant, The Story of Little Fatima, starts out much like the Italian La Gatta Cenerentola, but then turns into a "mother as animal helper" variant, with a middle section like the Portuguese The Hearth Cat. At the beginning, Little Fatima's female teacher tricks her into murdering her mother (!!!) so she can marry her father, then abuses her. But the mother's spirit comes back as a cow and shows her daughter unconditional love by magically aiding her chores. One day the cotton she's supposed to spin falls down a well, and the cow-mother advises her to go down after it, where she'll meet a div who will urge her to do bad deeds, but to only do good deeds instead. She obeys, and the div gives her a glowing moon on her forehead and star on her chin. The stepmother wants the same for her own daughter, so she sends her into the well, but Little Fatima lies to her stepsister that she should do all the bad deeds the div orders. As a result, the div gives the stepsister donkey ears and a tail. From then on, the story becomes a standard Cinderella, with the cow providing Little Fatima's finery, except instead of a ball, festival, or religious service, the special event is the wedding of a princess, the sister of the prince who falls in love with Little Fatima.

*The Palestinian variant, Thaljiyeh ("Snow-Maiden"), starts out like Snow White, with the heroine named for her skin white as snow, and her mother dying in childbirth. As Thaljiyeh is abused by her stepmother, a kindly jinniyah (female jinn) in a well takes pity on her and fills her bucket with jewelry, but when her two stepsisters draw water from the same well, the jinniyah fills their buckets with mud, stones, and insects. So they take Thaljiyeh's jewels and finally throw her out of the house. Fortunately, she comes to the home of a poor old woman who turns out to be her maternal grandmother and who takes her in; but unfortunately (so it seems), on the way she loses a red leather shoe that was a gift from her dead father. But of course a prince finds the shoe, and we all know what happens.

*The Tender-Hearted Maiden and the Fish from Nigeria is much like the Portuguese Maiden and the Fish – the heroine gets her finery from a fish that was meant to be cooked but which she set free. But in this version, unlike the Portuguese version, there is a wicked stepmother, and the fish really is a fish, not an enchanted prince. The heroine's love interest is a king, and the festival where he falls for her is a celebration of Eid al-Fitr. After her marriage, the stepmother and stepsister sneak into the heroine's bedroom at night and cut off her hands (!), but the fishes magically restore then. When the stepmother and stepsister try to publicly mock the new queen for having no hands, they only make fools of themselves.

*The Angolan variant, Fenda Maria and Her Elder Brother Nga Nzua, is very unusual. The heroine is an orphan who lives with her older brother, but when he marries the Lord Governor's daughter, his wife turns her into a slave. But in a forest she meets an old woman with leprosy and nurses her, and as reward, the old woman gives her boxes full of riches and dresses. The ending is unusual too: the heroine doesn't marry. Instead, when the Lord Governor discovers that the elegant lady who came to church is his son-in-law's sister, he punishes the couple (at the heroine's request) by dissolving their marriage and giving his cruel daughter to another man. From then on, the heroine and her repentant brother live together in prosperity, thanks to her magically-given wealth.

*As for the Indian versions, they vary widely:

**One is basically Finette Cendron without the ogres – a poor man abandons his daughters, they find a deserted wealthy house and take up residence there, and the oppressed youngest finds finery to wear to church in the house – but with a post-marriage ending. The sisters' steal the heroines babies and make her husband think she gave birth to inanimate objects, which drives him to lock her in a dungeon, but years later her children come back as beggars, and milk miraculously flies from their mother's breasts to their mouths, revealing the truth and leading to a happy ending.

**In another, the heroine is a princess who lives happily with her father and younger brother, until a seemingly-kind widow neighbor persuades her to persuade her father to marry her. The king resists a long time, but finally gives in, yet he warns his daughter that if her stepmother mistreats her, he'll do nothing about it. Sure enough, the new stepmother sends the prince away to boarding school and treats the princess like a slave. But the princess is helped both by a cow, who secretly feeds her, and by her dead godmother's spirit, who brings her finery for a dance at another king's palace. After the princess marries and gives birth to a son, her stepsister drowns her in a well and takes her place, but as in the Grimms' Brother and Sister, the princess's spirit comes back every night to nurse her baby, and when her husband finally sees her and catches her by the hands, she comes back to life. The stepsister is brutally executed and the stepmother driven away.

**The Kashmir variant follows the "mother turns into an animal" formula, but with a few differences from the norm. The mother turns into a goat when she thoughtlessly breaks a magical taboo against eating when her husband isn't home, the Cinderella character is just one of several siblings who are all mistreated by their stepmother, and instead of losing a shoe at a special event, she loses a nose ring while washing herself in a river. The ring is swallowed by a fish, which is caught and cut open by the king's cook. The king searches for the ring's owner and marries the girl, which lets her support her siblings and free them from the stepmother.

*@faintingheroine – I think Nihal would like some of these variants. Especially the Indian one where the heroine is neglected by her father and her little brother is sent away to school, since it parallels her own situation, and the Angolan one where the heroine doesn't marry in the end but gets her brother all to herself again.

*It seems strange that this book includes so few Cinderella stories from Africa. There must be more that exist!

Top 10 Sofia the First Songs

Fuck it, I know most of you dont give a shit about Sofia the First but this show has been a sheer delight for me so y'all gonna sit down, shut up and appreciate some good music. The music in this show is much like the music in Friendship is Magic. They both went way too hard than they needed to.

Here's the top 10 best songs in Sofia the First

10. King Cedric the Great

Villain songs are always fun and its even better when the villain singing it is about as dangerous as a rubber duck. Cedric is the true example of how to write a sympathetic villain. He's a hapless sorceror who's actually really good at magic but his anxiety combined with everyone (except Sofia and his niece Calista) viewing him as some kind of loser are the reason why he wants to take over the kingdom cos he thinks that's the only way he can get respect. As this song illustrates how he wants Sofia's amulet so he can use its powers, but as the episode goes on, he finds out he doesnt really have it in him to be truly evil for reasons I won't go into, cos the episode this song's from is SO good. Its called Cedric's Apprentice if anyone wants to look it up.

As for the song itself, its a homage to classic Disney villain songs but Cedric's plan is so childishly over the top its hard to take him seriously, which is the song's intention. Its a great juxtaposition. Jess Harnell's singing is just the ham on top of these cheese sandwich.

He really has a knack for playing characters that are totally wacko

9. Wendell's Way

Speaking of sorcerors, here's another villain: a kid named Wendell. A spoilt brat who stole all the flying horses of Enchancia for his birthday. He's like if Horrid Henry went to that terf wizard school. The song itself has a very boisterious energy, amplified by the hard rock drums and the lute/guitar solo?? which makes it all the more satisfying when Sofia, Amber and James get the upper hand in the end and Wendell's mother comes out of nowhere to ground him, its fucking great. Its nice to see a bully character actually stay a bully and not get force-redeemed by the writers so they can pull the 'everyone deserves a second chance' message , when in actuality, no, some people really are that mean and you're not obligated to give a shit about a bully. Wendell is, in retrospect, a breath of fresh air as the song doesnt pull some sad backstory out of the aether to make you feel sorry for this kid. No, he's just that selfish.

Also the lyric: 'That is a promise, but also a threat' is fucking great.

Its a simple song but a bop nonetheless.

8. Make Some Noise

Sometimes a song is good when its just plain fun. And this song definitely applies. In the episode this is from, Sofia befriends a bunch of trolls living under the castle that everyone warns her are dangerous and violent and here... theyre actually super chill. The fact that Sofia instantly gets into the groove is delightful and again showcases how compassionate she is.

The song itself has a fun, jazzy melody with the trolls using thier equivalents of piano, trumpets and of course their clubs. It's such a feel good song, almost like the voice actors just got up from the chairs and just danced like they dont give a shit and the directors just hit record. It really feels like a song you would hear at a party. Even the repeated animation doesnt bother me.

7. A Princess True

One of this show's biggest weakness is portraying people from different cultures cos its clear the show is made by mostly white people who have a limited understanding of non-white cultures and can easily fall into racist stereotypes without realising it. Its not by any means racist as the show features plenty of non white side characters (Khaled, Kashmir, Jun, Jin and Kari) that the main cast are on friendly terms with. But here, this song is relatively tame as this song is all about Sofia, a white girl, believing in Lani, a Hawaiian girl, as her actions throughout the episode are proof she's the real deal.

In the episode, Princess Leilani lost her family heirloom the Emerald Key into the sea after fighting an evil witch, where it gets washed up in Enchancia so Leilani goes to the castle to get the key back, cos its a key to help her parents find their way home from the sea. However, the witch Mamanu disguises herself as Leilani as well so she can trick the Enchancian royal family into giving her the Key. So Roland puts both Lanis to the test but the test involves the Lanis to act like THEIR cultural view of royalty. Sofia notices one of the Lanis aces it and the other competely fails at it and does something different instead. So Sofia thinks the latter is the real princess and this song is her showing her full support and belief that Lani is the true princess.

Its a very sweet song to a very meaty episode which is why I had to explain in full detail. Its not perfect but the song really encapsulates Sofia's and the show's earnestness towards non-white characters and I appreciate that. It helps the creator is Jewish and went on to make a show all about Latina culture and did actual research on it. So this song, and the episode itself is a good, albeit rocky start.

Even if they fucked it up with giving Lani powers in the next episode she appeared in, goddammnit why the magical native stereotype we were so close!!!!!

6. Me and My Mom

Creator Craig Gerber has stated many times that one of Sofia the First's core themes is teaching kids about blended families and how to adapt after getting new parents and step siblings in your life (since he was a child of divorce himself and had to adapt to having a new father and siblings). This song is about Sofia's struggles to adapt now that she has to share her mother with Amber and James. You really feel sorry for Sofia cos she's so used to having her mother being the only family she has and of course, is easily attached to her.

Its a very soft, heartfelt song that resonates with a lot of kids that are in Sofia's position. I bet they felt very seen by this episode.

5. Improvise

In the episode, Amber wants to join in Sofia's girl scout group but in typical Amber fashion, she brought nothing but dresses and jewellry to an outdoor trip and forgot to pack a tent. So Sofia and her friends teach her how to improvise via musical number. A cute lesson about being resourceful and a great example of Amber becoming a more versatile character as she grows to love the outdoors.

There's a very jovial, motivational energy to the song that really makes it stand out from the usual pep-talk songs in this show. What else can I say? Its a highlight of Amber's character development and a fun little song to boot. Whats not to love?

4. Two By Two

Amber's relationship with her sister Sofia is always expanded upon in the show but her relationship with brother James is a lot less so since Amber and James sparsely interact beyond typical sibling teasing. So its nice this episode, and this song helps establish how much Amber actually cares about her twin brother.

In the episode, Amber accidentally turns James into a toddler thanks to a botched magic spell cos Amber didnt want to share her birthday but as her and Sofia run around trying to find baby James. Sofia suggests to Amber to sing the twin song that James and Amber used to sing all the time when they were little. (which is just adorable)

I love how Amber starts the song in a very deadpan, almost annoyed tone until the second verse hits and slowly her singing becomes more melancholy and emotional, like the fact that her twin being lost is just now hitting her. Especially since she spent the whole episode wishing to have a birthday to herself for once, not realising that she's taking away James' birthday and thus losing him too. That small bit of her looking at the pocket watch with her and James' portrait it, finally finding baby James behind the throne, picking him up and hugging him and them finishing the song together

STOP, MY FUCKING HEART CANT TAKE THE AMOUNT OF CUTE

Its so nice to see a sibling relationship that's actually wholesome.

3. Dare to Risk It All

One of Amber's biggest flaws is her envy and her getting over being an jealous bitch to her little sister is a lesson that Amber has always had to learn in the show's earlier seasons. And while she has made some development, this is the episode where Amber makes the most change. And this song is emblematic of that.

Dare To Risk It All has Rapunzel appear to teach Amber that you have to put other's needs before your own to earn forgiveness, to prove you can change, which is a lesson not a lot of kids shows teach nowadays cos most shows like Steven Universe and even MLP put the pressure on the victim to forgive their bullies or let them off easy (especially if they're family) but in this episode, Sofia is rightfully angry at Amber for stealing her amulet and isnt afraid to snap at her for it the whole episode so Amber throughout this song (and the episode) realising how much Sofia means to her and it puts the pressure on Amber to be a better person and a better sister.

Its one of the few good Disney Princess songs the show has. The Disney Princess aspect of the show is honestly its biggest crutch cos Sofia always has a good role model with her mother and her dad to some extent and the princesses havent exactly had the best trakc record for teaching good lessons to Sofia since they either state the obvious or gaslight her. So its nice to see the princesses teach someone else for a change. And its Rapunzel, the best Disney princess.

Also bonus points for having a good song about earning forgiveness whilst flying dragons.

2. Princess Things

Sofia wants to do flying horse-racing even though mostly boys at her school do that sport and both Amber and Sofia's rival Prince Hugo are discouraging her from trying out the sport. Its your typical girl empowerment message. While the pilot episode established the whole premise, this episode (Just One of the Princes) and this song establishes Sofia's character: a pro-active princess who doesnt fall for anyone's bullshit, which is perfect for a moral center protagonist.

I love how Sofia's expression throughout the song goes from confused to smiling like she's internally screaming. And her verses are basically 'screw you guys i do whatever the fuck i want.' So not only did everyone waste their time singing to convince Sofia but in fact made her even MORE CONVINCED to try out the flying horse derby. Good job, guys.

Aside from that, the song itself is a bop. The repeated chorus really emphasises the peer pressure Sofia is going through. Second episode of the series and they're already making a hit.

1. All You Need

In the episode, Sofia meets Vivian, a princess who's a great artist and musician but is painfully shy and thus everyone is spreading rumours around her. Even Sofia was a bit apprehensive but she pushes through it to meet Vivian at her house whilst they work on their school project and this delightful song just pops up.

I love how it starts with Vivian nervously playing her lute and Sofia starts singing, whilst helping her IN SONG start brainstorming their ideas for a dream castle. Then after Sofia's verse is done: ending with the lyric, Ill paint all the towers blue, now the rest is up to you, Vivian immediately jumps and enthusiastically suggest her own ideas. The music even matches the tone of the characters. When it starts, its only Vivian's lute and a backing track but as soon as the bridge comes, the music swells when Sofia's singing motivates Vivian and its just chef kiss.

This song, as well as the episode this was from, made me really like Vivian as a side character and I always loved her interactions with Sofia whenever she made an appearance. I like how she retained her newfound confidence into later seasons, where she becomes just as pro-active as Sofia.

This song, to me, is what Sofia the First is all about. A girl who's just the sunniest child, befriending the shy kid in her class and having the most adorable musical number. Are there songs with better lyrics and theming? Absolutely. But the sheer serotonin levels this song has, as well as encapsulating the main character's compassion for others, is why this is the best song of the show

Shawn Michaels x Fem Reader- "Table for Two"

On a "Shotgun Saturday Night" episode that aired at the end of 1997, there was a moment that had you and Shawn Michaels standing on top of a table and dancing on it.

While you and he danced, there was some rock music playing where you and he were dancing on beat.

You and Shawn were standing next to each other side by side, where Shawn had his hair down while you had your arms and hands up in the air next to you.

You and Shawn were dancing on a table in front of a restaurant's booth with leather seats.

Your hands were balled into fists while you thrust your pelvis out.

You and Shawn were dancing like how Princess Kashmir and Otto Mann from "The Simpsons" were dancing in that "Simpsons" episode "Flaming Moe", when she and Otto were dancing on top of a table at Moe's Tavern while Aerosmith sang "Walk This Way".

In fact, this moment with you and Shawn was meant to be a recreation of Princess Kashmir's and Otto's brief scene.

That episode may have came out in the early 1990's and you and Shawn recreated this scene in 1997, but whatever.

You would've let Triple H dance with you on top of his table, but his body was getting heavier and bigger.

This moment of you and Shawn dancing like Princess Kashmir and Otto would've been perfect on the first episodes of "Shotgun Saturday Night" when the show was filmed in bars and malls and featured female dancers that would later be in clips of titantrons.

In fact, maybe I could rewrite this fanfic and set it on "Shotgun Saturday Night".

This Nearly Crashed My Browser: Finding All 120+ Competitors

the current list

The Simpsons is known for it's utterly mind-boggling amount of episodes and characters, with its wiki having more than 5K entries in the character section. My job was to sift to through and pick out as many relevant characters as possible, while making some exclusions and exceptions. Here's how it went down:

The wiki's home page has a character tab with a dropdown with five category; Simpson Family, Krusty, At the SNPP, At Springfield Elementary, and Kids

Clicking on each tab will bring you to a page with all characters relevant to the category

-The Krusty tab is literally just Krusty, so I just found Channel 4 myself

In Simpson Family, I grabbed the core family, Snowball & SLH, Abe & Mona, Patty, Selma, and Ling

In Channel 4, I grabbed Krusty, Kent, Bumblebee Man, Sideshow Bob & Mel, Mr. Teeny, Itchy & Scratchy, and later I decided to expand it to celebrities, adding, Marvin Monroe, Troy McClure, Rainer Wolfcastle, Drederick Tatum, and just decided to stick Kang & Kodos here

In SNPP, I grabbed Mr. Burns, Smithers, Lenny & Carl, Blinky the Fish, Charlie, and the people's champion, "Just Stamp the Ticket" Man

In Springfield Elementary, I grabbed Skinner, Edna, Otto, Hoover, Largo, Willie, Chalmers, Krupt, and Doris

And in Kids, I grabbed Uter, Richard & Lewis, Database, Baby Gerald, Milhouse, Nelson, Wendell, Martin, Ralph, Rod & Todd, Sherri & Terri, Janey, and the Spuckler & Nahasapeemapetilon kids

I didn't find the bullies, Jimbo, Dolph, and Kearney in Kids, so I made a throwaway category, "Townies". After these three and over the course of tracking other characters, I grabbed Barney, Sam & Larry, Hans Moleman, Snake, Bleeding Gums, Julio & Grady, Jebediah Springfield, Disco Stu, Squeaky Voiced Teen, Cletus & Brandine, and the City of Shelbyville.

Next, I decided to look for Senior characters, which eventually evolved into the aptly named "Olds" category. This was pretty broad, but here I grabbed Ned & Maude Flanders, Kirk & Luann Van Houten, Marge's Mother, Jasper, Mrs. Muntz, Old Jewish Man (which is his title, apparently), Ruth Powers, Mrs. Glick, Crazy Cat Lady, Sarah Wiggum, Agnes, Manjula, and Matt Groening.

Researching this category, characters such as Apu and Fat Tony came to mind, but were excluded since they do stuff. So then I made the final category, "Career", characters who are most defined by their career. This was the largest category, with me grabbing Apu, Reverend & Helen Lovejoy, Lionel Hutz, Moe, Dr Hibbert & Nick, Fat Tony, Legs & Louie, Johnny Tightlips, Frankie the Squealer, Judge Constance, The Salty Sea Captain & The Rich Texan, Mayor Quimby, Cookie Kwan, Blue-Haired Lawyer, Lindsey Naegle, Roger Meyers Jr, Gil, Comic Book Guy, Chief Wiggum, Officers Eddie & Lou, Herman, Italian Chef (not calling him f-ing Luigi Risotto), and Duffman.

Finally, the characters I forgot or couldn't originally fit, being Herbert, Allison, Rabbi Krustofsky, Artie Ziff, Shauna Chalmers, Kumiko Albertson, and Raphael the Wisecrack.

Exclusions and the Vaguest of Vague Rules

While constructing the list, at the start I avoided adding Allison, Herbert, and the Rabbi. In my mind, these were one-time guest stars, like Hank Scorpio and Frank Grimes, but I decided to include them as Allison became a Janey-like figure, Herbert got a follow-up episode in Season 3, and the Rabbi appeared on occasion with speaking roles. Characters I will never add would either be real-people, with the exception of Matt Groening, one-off guest stars, and set-dressing characters that don't impact main characters, such as Martin's parents, the other workers at the nuclear plant, and Sideshow Bob's wife and child.

Of course, I can bend the rules. If you think of a character that could be included, tell me in anyway you can and I'll decide on it or create a public poll. Why, just typing this up I thought of Flanders' parents, the Vegas wives, and Princess Kashmir, who could all be argued for or against!

Part 26 -Beauty and the Freak

Talent Show

Knock, knock. " Hello Eddie! It's nice to see you! Come on in!" Lucy opened the door, a big smile on her face. She was without a doubt one of my most favorite people in the world. She was sweet, non- judgmental and the mom that I wish I had, not to mention she was the creator of the girl that meant everything to me.

"Hey Lucy! Is Ronnie home?" I took off my shoes and closed the door behind me.

" She is, in the music room practicing. Go on down!"

I made my way down the hall and opened the door. I could hear her playing her Cello. It sounded really beautiful. I never really had an appreciation for classical music until I actually started listening to Veronica play it. I snuck down the stairs and again she was so fully engrossed in her playing she had no idea I was there. I stood and watched her for a minute, she looked so beautiful, so elegant, her hair piled up high on her head leaving her neck on full display, glasses on, fingers moving swiftly over the fingerboard, bow in the other hand gliding over the strings. Her posture perfect as she played. I could sit and watch her play all day long.

I walked up behind her and carefully leaned down and softly kissed her neck. She jumped but continued to play until the song was finished.

" Edward Munson you scared the fucking shit out of me!"

I laughed and rubbed her shoulders. "Sorry Sweetheart. " I leaned down and whispered in her ear," You look awfully sexy when you play your cello." I kissed her neck again.

" Your just trying to make up for scaring the shit out of me." She laughed.

" No you do. Your violin too. And you already know how I feel about you playing the drums." I smirked. "What were you just playing?"

"Bach'sPrelude in G Major ."

" I liked it. Can you play me something else?"

She thought for a minute then started playing the intro to Led Zeppelin's Kashmir. She smiled.

" Babe that sounds awesome! "

She played a little bit longer then stopped." Here sit down Ed's, I want you to try playing."

I shook my head. " There is no way I can play."

" I will help you. " She stood up holding the neck of her Cello. " Have a seat. Baby this is going to be my profession some day, please let me practice on you?"

" Alright, Princess." I took a seat in her chair and pulled her down on my lap." I think I would learn much faster this way." I smirked .

" Pretty sure I would instantly be fired if I did this with a student." She laughed ,wiggled her ass around then got up.

" I really hope you decide to teach elementary school kids because I don't think I could handle knowing that there was a classroom full of perverted teenage boys staring at you asking you for help even though they didn't need it just so they can look at your boobs."

Veronica laughed." Is that what you would do?"

" If you were my teacher? Abso-fucking-loutly. I would probably conveniently drop my pencil too when you walked by so you would pick it up for me." I smirked.

" What a Shithead." She stood infront of me and adjusted the cello," You want it at about a 30 degree angle, and you want it a little loose between your legs so that it moves with you as you play.You want it comfortably resting against your chest, not too high or too low." She checked the placement then smiled." Looks good, now for the Bow." She gently took my hand and I was having a hard time concentrating on anything but her gentle touch and her soothing voice. She positioned it on the bow and closed my fingers around it where they needed to go.

" Your bow hold needs to be light and flexible. Keep a loose wrist, it might feel a little awkward but you will get used to it. How does it feel?"

I blinked up at her." Uh, awkward as fuck." I smiled." Baby, you are so good at this. Your going to be such an amazing teacher."

She smiled." Aww, thanks." She leaned forward and lightly kissed my lips. " You want to hold the bow perpendicular to the strings." She positioned the bow." The more relaxed you are the better the sound. Now draw the bow across the string." She put her hand over mine and demonstrated. A long even note sounded. " Ok now you try."

I squinted my eyes and felt my tongue poke out as I concentrated. I put the bow to the string and applied some pressure as I drew it across the string. A long even note rang out. I was amazed.

" Perfect baby!! That was perfect!" She jumped up and down and clapped her hands together.

" I fucking did it, holy shit!" I smiled widely.

Ronnie leaned down and kissed me. "Nice job baby. Do you want to keep going?"

" I think I am good for now, but that was awesome Sweetheart. " I handed her the bow and watched her put her cello on a stand. " I came over because I have been thinking about something and I wanted to run it by you."

" What have you been thinking about Mr. Munson?" She wrapped her arms around my waist.

" You know that the Hawkins High Talent Show is coming up, how would you feel about us collaborating and performing something together?"

She smiled. " That would be amazing!!! What were you thinking?"

" I Have been working on a few songs, wanna come back to my place and I can play them for you and see what you think?"

"I am intrigued and excited, let's go!"

" Can you bring your violin?"

" Absolutely." She grabbed her things and we started out."Mom, going to Eddie's!"

" Alright Sweetie! Behave yourself!"

" Always!"

We got into the van and I drove her to my place. I couldn't wait to show her what I had been working on.

I unlocked the door and we went straight to my room. She sat Indian style on my bed while I plugged in my guitar and turned on my amp. I played a little warm up and looked up to see her smiling and biting her lip.

" It doesn't matter how many times I have seen you play I will forever be completely in awe of you."

" I feel the same about you. Especially when you play the drums. That night we played the battle of the bands, the way you dressed, when you twirled that stick and winked, you became a complete badass. You were radiating sexiness."

" I always feel like I make the dumbest faces when I play."

" Uh, no. Instant turn on for me, and when you did the hair flip..."

" For me it's when you throw your head back when you play, or when you put your foot up on your amp."

I smiled. " That's what does it for you?" I put my foot up on my amp." Get ready for this Sweetheart." I started playing her Mom's favorite, Por Una Cabeza, and I saw her jaw drop. I had been practicing it for a while because I wanted it to be perfect when I played it for her. She watched in awe for a minute then opened up her case and began playing. The combination of the electric guitar and the violin was mind blowing for me. My version was a little more metal, I tweaked it a little, but our styles together sounded amazing. When we finished playing we just stared at each other for a minute, letting it sync in.

" I had no idea you knew how to play this? " Veronica got up and stood beside me. " I love how you changed it and made it just the right amount of metal. It was incredible."

"I remember your mom saying that you and your father were working on a duet, she said it was her favorite and she missed it. I thought it might be cool to surprise her."

" Eddie Munson you are the sweetest man in the world. She will lose her shit, but in a good way. This is going to blow people's minds."

I smiled." I was so nervous to play this, I was worried you would hate me tweaking it."

" I 100% love it." She smiled.

" Just picture it, you are standing on stage wearing your fancy recital outfit and you start playing all soft and sweet then bam, I come out and we fucking kill it."

" I love how much thought you have put into this!!"

I smiled at her." I hope she likes it. Come on, let's play from the beginning."

We practiced a couple days a week after school until we had it down. It didn't take long considering that we both knew the song well, at this point it was just a matter of timing. I also had a little surprise up my sleeve for Veronica as well but she wouldn't find out till tonight at the show. I had been working on a little something with the my band, Corroded Coffin, the guys are great and they love Ronnie so they were happy to go along with it. She saved our ass earlier this is year when she filled in for Gareth at the battle of the bands, and we won.

Finally it was the day of the talent show and I was stoked. I was chatting in the cafeteria with Dustin and Mike- they were doing a comical magic show for their talent, it was actually very funny. Dustin is a funny little shit, the kid has the best personality. He was definitely my favorite out of the shrimp squad.We were talking about how we couldn't believe the school year was almost over when Veronica walked over.

" Hey guys! You guys look great in your tuxedos, and Dustin the cape and top hat? Classic! I can't wait to see your magic show!"

We all stared at her for a minute, she looked beautiful . Her hair was in a fancy twist and she was wearing a long black dress that had a scoop neck. The dress itself was simple but on her body it looked amazing. She had some dainty dangly earrings in her ears and on full display the guitar pick necklace I had given her.

"Wow, Ronnie you look super classy!" Dustin was the first to speak.

" Thanks Dusty!"

" Yeah, yeah you look great." Mike blushed. He has the biggest crush on her, I can't blame the kid.

" Thanks Mike, you're looking good too, very dapper."

Then she turned her gaze to me and I wanted to melt. She smiled. " Hey baby."

I slid my arm around her waist and leaned in, she smelled so damn good."You look stunning."

" Oh this old thing?" She laughed." This is my fancy performance dress. I can't wait to blow everyone's fucking mind. I mean the fact that Eddie Munson is participating at school event? I have already heard three teachers comment that they can't wait to see it. I don't even care if we win, I just can't wait to do this with you." She kissed my lips lightly.

" I can't wait to hear you guys, it's going to be epic!" Dustin smiled widely. " Lucas, Max , Nancy, Steve and Robin are already in the auditorium. I saw Bill and Lucy too, guess who way sitting with them? Wayne!"

" For real? He didn't tell me he was coming. That is awesome!" I grabbed Ronnie's hand, " Wanna go out and say hi?"

" Of course!"

I walked her through the crowd in the cafeteria then out to the audience. I saw Lucy wave us down. There he was sitting with the Carver's, I am glad that he was able to sit with someone he knew. He is a great guy but a little shy and socially awkward. He smiled as we made our way through the crowd.

He stood up and gave me a hug. "Surprised to see me here? I told them at work that I needed to take the night off. I had to come. After all , your graduating in just a a couple weeks and I have missed too much already."

I hugged him back." I am glad you made it!"

He smiled at Veronica and gave her a hug. "You look beautiful sweetie."

" Thanks Wayne." She smiled back.

" I can't thank you enough for whipping this kid into shape and finally getting him to graduation. You make him so happy."

" He makes me happy too, I don't know what I would have done without him." She grabbed my hand and squeezed it.

Lucy gave us both a hug." Good luck guys! You are going to be great!"

A voice rang out over the intercom. "Will the freshman participants please meet backstage, thank you."

" We better wish Dustin and Mike good luck. " I turned to Wayne, Lucy and Bill." Thanks for coming guys, see you after!"

We went backstage and found the guys, gave them a thumbs up then found seats in the way back of the auditorium to watch the show. We wouldn't be on for a while so we figured we might as well watch. The first round was Freshman dancing, singing and doing skits. Dustin and Mike were hysterical and should win there class easily.

Sophomores and Juniors more of the same but a little more talent. There was poetry, and lots of drama. Towards the end of the third round we headed back. We were going on third, right after Chrissy Cunningham and her friends doing a dance routine. She was staring at us from across the room. Veronica wrapped her arms around my waist and pulled me close. She was super possessive of me whenever Chrissy was around.

I lifted her chin up with my finger and placed a soft kiss on her lips. " You really do look amazing. I can't wait to watch you play."

" I can't wait to watch you. Will you do the foot on the amp thing for me?" She reached up and tugged on the lapels of my leather jacket.

" I would do anything for you kitten."

She raised her eyebrows as me," That's a new one. "

" Just trying it out, do you hate it?"

" No, not at all. Now I have to come up with something new for you again. " She thought for a second. " Got it! Your my little hairybear!"

I laughed. " Jesus Christ, no one would ever let me live that down! That would need to be reserved for private moments."

" I will save it for special occasions." She smiled. " I am going to pop into the ladies room and check my hair and makeup before we go on, I will be back hairybear."

" See you soon kitten." When she left I went and checked in with Jeff, Scotty and Gareth, they were hanging out, outside the cafeteria. Corroded Coffin was on last. I thanked them again for going along with my surprise and they were happy to help. The truth is that this could be one of the last times we perform together before we all went our separate ways. It was kind of sad, we had all been together since middle school. I guess that's just what happens when you get older.

I walked back into the cafeteria and saw Ronnie very quietly playing her violin, she was a vision. She smiled as she saw me walk closer.

" You know sweetheart I could have told you earlier that your hair and makeup was perfect but I figured that if I said that you would still go look anyways. "

" Of course I would, you would feel obligated to say that to me."

" Since when have I ever said anything that I don't really mean?"

" Alright, you got me. I love that you are always completely honest with me. Are you nervous?"

I shrugged." Maybe a little. Not about performing, more about the fact that the whole town is out there, a town of people that think I'm a loser."

" You know who else is out there? Some kids that idolize and look up to you, your friends that care for you and support you especially because they know there is an audience of people that might not. Your Uncle, the man that raised you to be the amazing man that you are, and Lucy and Bill, they love you like a son, pretty sure Bill loves you more than his actual son." She smiled.

" How do you always know what to say.." I gave her a hug." I love you."

She set her violin down on the table beside us and wrapped her arms around me. " Love ya baby."

" I would kiss you but I don't want to mess up your lipstick."

"We will have plenty of time to mess it up after." She winked at me.

The schools Drama teacher Mrs. Langtry came into the cafeteria. "Alright guys almost time to hit the stage, I need Josh and Mark up first doing their comedy routine, then Chrissy and company doing their dance, then Eddie and Veronica's duet- you each have 5 minutes to set up in between, try to be as speedy as you can people so we can keep the show rolling."

We watched Chrissy and her entourage walk to the front of the room, her eyes on us as she walked by.

Josh and Mark headed out of the room and a few minutes later we heard their names being announced.

" We are almost up! I don't know if I should watch my mom's face or watch your sweet little ass."

" You can watch my ass anytime. I hope she loves it."

" She will."

I opened my guitar case and pulled it out, put the strap over my head. I quietly practiced as we waited.

" You have very talented fingers Mr. Munson."

I looked up and smirked. " Why thank you Miss Montgomery. " I winked at her. " Your hands are quite remarkable as well."

She laughed and sat at the table beside me. "I've got butterflies. This always happens no matter how many times I have played infront of a crowd. Pre performance jitters."

" Don't worry Princess we are going to go out there and slay.”

"I know we will."

There was a round of applause and Josh and Mark came back into the cafeteria. Chrissy's group headed out the door and she turned to look at us one last time.

" Good luck!" Veronica said and smiled sweetly at her.

Chrissy glared at her and walked out.

" I was just trying to be nice. "

" You were trying to throw her off."

" I didn't tell her to break a leg now did I? She fucking hates me."

" She is like the only person in the world that does. She's jealous of you. Your smart, gorgeous, talented and you have an amazing boyfriend."

" That I do!" She smiled." I could care less what Chrissy thinks of me. She is going to go to college and find out she's not the queen of the school anymore." She listened as they announced Chrissy's dance group. The song Venus by Bananarama came on and Ronnie raised her eyebrows.

" Jason is probably sitting out there with a boner right now." I laughed.

" That's a disgusting thought. " She was quiet for a minute."I can't believe she broke your heart. It hurts my feelings, to think of poor little devistated sophomore Eddie . "

"Aww, baby. " I gave her a side hug. "But now you have finally graduating, totally in love, happier than he has ever been Eddie."

" I do and I am the luckiest girl in the world." She smiled." I love you so much."

" Ditto Sweetheart. I can't wait till this is over so I can kiss you."

" I'm really going to lay one on you."

" Looking forward to it." I gave her a wide smile.

We heard the crowd cheer then watched shortly after as Chrissy's group came back in.

" We are up!" I grabbed my amp and took her hand. We walked back stage and got all set up. I watched as she positioned a mic in front of her violin. She let out a deep breath and smiled.

" I can't wait to see Lucy's face."

" She is going to love it. I can't wait for the moment that you come out and join in. It give me the chills every time."

Ms. Langtry walked over to us, " You guys ready? " she smiled.

" All set!"

" Great, I will announce you guys then we'll open the curtains!"

" Perfect! Thank you!"

I walked over and kissed Veronica's cheek. "We are going to kill it baby. See you out there. I'll be watching!"

" And now for your listening pleasure we have a musical performance from Veronica Montgomery and Eddie Munson!"

I could hear the gang shouting and cheering from the audience, and it made me excited.

I watched Veronica transform from nervous to poised and confident. She positioned herself than winked at me just before the curtains opened. She waited for a minute then started playing the intro. She looked so amazing, so graceful. And now is was my turn to go out and fucking blow them away. I waited for my cue then started playing as I walked out, there was a surprised chatter from the crowd then a cheer. I stood beside Veronica and we played in perfect compliment to each other. I looked out into the audience and spotted Lucy. I smiled as I watched her wipe happy tears from her eyes. She smiled and put her hands over her heart. I locked eyes with Ronnie and smiled. We played together in sync.

Before we knew it we had finished the song. The crowd went crazy, put my guitar on a stand then I wrapped my arms around Veronica and spun her around before we did a bow for the crowd. Our Friends and family gave us a standing ovation. We waved to them, I grabbed my guitar and amp and we exited the stage.

As soon as we were out of sight we looked as each other ." That was fucking awesome! I think they loved it!" I said excitedly

" It was amazing! We totally blew their minds."

" I was so fucking pumped up when I saw you out there, Sweetheart. "

" I know," she was walking quickly to the cafeteria," I got butterflies when you came strutting out, you have such a presence on stage,it was so hot. "

I smiled." I gave you butterflies?"

"All you have to do is look at me and I get butterflies, Munson."

We made our way to the table where our cases were and put our instruments away. As soon as everything was safe and secured I wrapped my arms around her waist.

" Does this give you butterflies?"

" You know it does. You know exactly what you do to me when you look at me with those big brown eyes Eddie Munson."

I smiled at her and was going to lean in for a kiss until I heard someone clearing their throat behind me.

" Oh hey, Ms. O'Donnell."

" Hello Mr. Munson, Miss Montgomery. I have to say your performance was quite stellar. Bravo."

" Well actually Teach we couldn't have done it without you."

Ms. O'Donnell smirked, preparing herself like she does in class for whatever bullshit I throw her way. "Please explain?"

" Because you paired the two of us up, we started out as study buddies, then became friends, then became best friends, than became a couple, than became the love of each others lives. Who knows where we would be right now if you hadn't paired us together. Ronnie would probably be the quiet girl in the back of the classroom and I would probably be signed up for your class again this fall for the third time."

She laughed." I don't think I could handle a third year with you Mr. Munson. I am very proud of you. I knew you had this potential in you all along."

" I just needed someone that could keep me interested and on task."

" Thank goodness for Veronica and her unwavering patience."

Ronnie smiled. " It really was my pleasure. "

She smiled." I have enjoyed watching the two of you blossom together this year. However as a teacher in charge of this school related function I must ask that you refrain from any physical-"

" I know, I know. I need to behave and keep my hands and lips off my girlfriend while we are at the school. I remember from the Prom." I removed my arms from around Veronica's waist.

" Alright I will save the lecture then. Congratulations again on a wonderful performance."

" Thank you Ms. O'Donnell." We said in unison. We watched her walk away.

" I think I am going to go remove this lipstick so that when all this is over I can ask my amazing boyfriend to drive me home and we can finally have the make out session that we deserve in the back of his van."

" I think that is an excellent idea." I smiled at her. " Why don't you do that then go out and sit with Lucy. I will go put our instruments in the van then come sit with you."

"Are you sure you don't mind?"

" Not at all baby. Tell Lucy I love her!"

" I will. " She smiled than walked away.

Veronica

I made my way through the crowd in between performances as not to block anyone's view. As soon as my mom saw she was standing up and running down the aisle. She pulled me into a tight hug.

" That was so amazing my beautiful sweet girl! It made me cry! Such a wonderful surprise!"

" It was Eddies idea. He remembered you saying how Dad and I always wanted to perform it. He learned it, made it a little more his style than came to me. I had no idea. He's literally the sweetest. He wanted to do this to surprise you."

She smiled." That boy is the best. I am going to give him a big ole kiss when I see him. Where is he?"

"He's putting our stuff in the van so nothing happens to it. He said he would give me a ride home after."

My mother just smirked at me.

" What? We might get pizza after."

" Oh, ok."

Wayne came up to me and gave me a hug." Sweetheart, that was beautiful. I can't believe that Eddie was playing classical music! I am so glad he has you, especially since I am not around much. He has been a completely different kid. I mean he's finally graduating! Getting A's and B's. Thank you Sweetie."

I hugged him back." Your welcome Wayne. He has helped me get through a rough year too."

" All right we have three more performances tonight, our next act is Joe Kilborn doing his amazing juggling."

The crowd started clapping and I slid in and sat down next to my mom. I looked around for Eddie but didn't see him yet. Maybe he ran into someone and was chatting. We watched the Amazing juggling talents of Joe Kilborn , than the singing talents of Barbara and Tina, and still no Eddie.

I scanned the crowd again. I saw the gang and waved to them across the room.

" I think you guys won this portion hands down!" My mom said smiling.

" Your just saying that because your my mom." I smirked.

" I thought Dustin and Mike were great too, that Dustin, boy is he a funny kid."

" Don't tell the others but he is my favorite."

" Secret is safe with me."

Ms. Langtry walked on to the stage. "And now for our last performance, Hawkins very own, Corroded Coffin!" The curtain opened and there was Eddie, Scotty, Jeff and Gareth up on stage, smiling. Eddie looked over the crowd and found me, locked eyes with me and winked.

I smiled at him and winked back. He gave his widest, sweetest smile.

" Hello again Hawkins High, I'm back" The gang screamed and cheered for Eddie, he pointed at them. " I'm here with my band, Corroded Coffin, and we're going to be playing something a little different than what we usually play, an oldie but with a little spin on it. Veronica, this one is for you."

My mom turned and looked at me, a smile on her face." Did you hear that honey?"

I nodded, my eyes on the stage.

Gareth did the countdown and then they started.

I heard a very familiar guitar line, then Eddie sang," Imagine me and you, I do, I think about you day and night, it's only right, to think about the girl you love and hold her tight, so happy together-"

" Oh my god!" I looked at my mom." He knows I love this song."

She smiled at me. " So sweet!"

" If I should call you up, invest a dime, and you say you belong to me, and ease my mind, imagine how the world could be, so very fine, so happy together-"and then they started wailing. The crowd cheered.It gave me the chills. It was like the original, but with a little touch of metal and it sounded fucking amazing.

Eddie looked at me, smiled and sang. "I can see me loving no body but you for all my life! When your with me, baby the skies will be blue, for all my life!"

I was completely transfixed the rest of the performance, I couldn't take my eyes off the stage, off of him. He was so incredibly talented, and so insanely hot. And on top of all that he was sweet and thoughtful. I was so goddamn lucky. When the band stopped we screamed our heads off, my mom and I acting like a total groupies, they came to the edge of the stage and bowed. I waved to the guys and they smiled, Jeff took Eddies guitar and he jumped off the stage. As soon as his feet the floor I shuffled to the end of my row, excusing myself as I went. I hit the end just as Eddie walked up and I threw my arms around him.

" That was so sweet."

" Did you like it Sweetheart?" He smiled.

" I absolutely loved it. I can't believe you surprised me like that! I was wondering what was taking you so long!" I kissed his cheek. " Thank you Eddie. It was so special."

He squeezed me tight. " I'm glad you liked it." He was about to lean in and kiss me when my Mom came up to us. "Eddie Munson, you made me cry tonight. Ronnie told me it was your idea! You remembered that it was my favorite song, I love what you did with it. It was so you!"

I backed up so that my mom could give him a hug. She practically held him in a death grip. She kissed his cheek. "Thank you for being such a wonderful, thoughtful boy. And playing Happy Together, it was so special. I am so lucky that Veronica has you. "

I watched Eddie Munson blush." Aww, thanks Lucy." He pat her back . " I am the lucky one to have you guys. My second family."

My mom pulled away." We love you Eds."

He smiled." Ditto Mrs. C." He looked over at Wayne." Did you like it?"

" I'm so proud of you Eddie. It was awesome, I think the crowd loved it too." Wayne smiled proudly.

" Awesome." Eddie looked back at the stage, " I think we need to head back." He took my hand. " Is it alright if I drive Ronnie home?"

" It's fine." Mom put her hand on my shoulder." Just don't stay out too late."

" I won't. Love ya!"

Eddie waved then we walked back towards the cafeteria. Before we got there Eddie pulled me into a vacant hallway and pushed me into a doorway alcove and up against one of the classroom doors, out of any line of vision. " I have been wanting to kiss you all night." He leaned in until he was just inches from my face.

I couldn't take it anymore, I reached up and took his face in my hands and pulled his lips to mine. I kissed him hungrily as he pressed his body into mine . I wanted him, so bad. There was laughter down the hallway and we jumped apart.

" Damn." Eddie sighed.

I smoothed out the front of my dress. " Soon enough baby." I kissed his lips quickly again, then took his hand. " Come on Sexy Man, let's go." I dragged him to the cafeteria.

It was filled with everyone that had performed that night from each grade. Eddie went over to thank Jeff, Scotty and Gareth for taking his guitar and amp off the stage and I went and found Dustin and Mike.

" Hey guys!" I walked up to them." You guys are totally going to win, you were awesome."

Dustin smiled." You thought so?"

"You guys were great! I loved it! I'm a sucker for magic tricks."

" It would be so awesome if we won!" Mike smiled. " You guys were amazing. Eddie playing fancy metal, unreal."

" I know."

"If we could have all of the participants backstage please? We are about to announce the winners of each category." Ms. Langtry motioned for everyone to follow her and we all filed in backstage. The curtain opens and the crowd applauded.

" This has been a wonderful evening of entertainment, let's give it up to all of our performers!" The crowd clapped again" First we would like to announce the winners of the freshman class, let's hear it for," Dramatic pause, " Dustin and Mike's Magic show!"

I watched them jump up and down, then run forward to except their award. I cheered loudly for them and so did the crowd. When they came backstage again I gave them hugs and congratulated them. Ms. Langtry announced the winner for the sophomore class, Sara Driscoll, for her singing talents and then Juniors Bobby and Ryan for their stand up comedy routine. I could feel the butterflies in my stomach and then I felt Eddie's arms slide around my waist from behind me. I relaxed into him.

" It doesn't matter if we don't win, I'm just glad that we got to perform together." He squeezed me tight.

" Same here, but it would also be amazing to beat Chrissy Cunningham."

He laughed." Well yeah, that too."

" And our winners for the Senior class are," another dramatic pause." Veronica Montgomery and Eddie Munson!"

" Yeah!!!" Eddie spun me around and we went up to the front of the stage to accept our award. Our friends were standing right up against the stage cheering loudly, Mike and Dustin came forward and clapped for us and Eddie held the award up in the air and cheered. I was so happy, I looked in the audience and saw Wayne looking so proud, my mom of course was crying and Bill was smiling and clapping.

Eddie beamed at me." We did it Princess!"

" We did!" I smiled and hugged him." I can't wait to celebrate our win."

" That will be the perfect ending to tonight." He winked.

As we were dismissed from the stage I asked him, " Think we should take the kids out for pizza to celebrate their win? I know it would prolong our celebration but,"

" Yeah they would love it, let's go see if we can find the others in the crowd. That kiss was enough to hold me over for now." He smiled.

We waved goodbye to our families then gathered the group to celebrate our wins. It was a blast, but the real highlight of the night came after the pizza when Eddie and I finally had some alone time in his van.
