Natural Selection 2 (2012, Unknown Worlds Entertainment)
These screenshots are from 2014, hence the low resolution. It's a shame only a few hundred play this now, it was such a fun multiplayer experience back in it's prime.
Thankfully the few hundred still playing are all very dedicated to the game, and there's modders releasing community balance mods to this day.
Here's hoping at some point the devs do a Natural Selection 3, but I know they're busy with a Subnautica sequel at the moment.

this took me so damn long for god's sake
Official Sun and Moon designs in my kharaa au!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sun is based on a reaper Leviathan, and Moon a ghost leviathan. They are not related by blood, however, they have grown up together and treat each other as if they were brothers.
Sun can't see well in the dark, but a fun fact is that leviathan reapers could be blind, it's not known for sure, what is certain is that they have echolocation, if you listen to it he can see you.
Moon can see in the light, but that would give him a headache and he prefers not to show his face there. Their neon lights dull in the light and turn a dull gray.
Although the design of Y/N is up to each one's choice, this is what I have in mind when I write about them
Tumblr media
Some extras without importance under the cut
I'm proud of these backgrounds, really
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yyy transparent images of the boys, I just wanted to show Moon's because in her drawing the silhouette of her tail is not visible, but it wouldn't be fair not to put Sun in a transparent background image
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I will work on the eclipse design some day, for now I will dedicate myself to writing the second chapter

Au Ra August 🦎
Day 16
A mythical construct rising impossibly high from Othard's sea is a sort of proving ground, the work of clandestine heritors of Allagan knowledge? An audacious claim, so of course it warranted further expert investigation.

And today's "deeply distracting au while i wait for my wrist to calm down from attempting to write for too long" iiiiiiiiiis Subnautica! an inevitability for every fandom i'm in after a certain point tbh i just LOVE Subnautica... would love to actually play it myself one day when i have a better computer
ANYWAYS I'm spicing it up this time by mashing both games together and also really mixing up the hermits.
The premise is that the Hermatrix Convoy (HC), a trio of spaceships that travels together in a group as a defense measure against outside dangers, is on its journey. When they have to reroute to slingshot 4546-B, they don't think it's going to be a problem. Knowing the planet is uninhabited and that no other ships are nearby, they all go for the slingshot at the same time, separated by mere seconds.
The gun, of course, gets them all.
Hermatrix-1 crashes in a shallow part of the flooded surface in the subtropics (the setting of the first game) and completely loses the ship, though a dozen survive. Hermatrix-2 crashes in the arctic (Subnautica: Below Zero); their ship remains habitable for survival, but barely, and eight survive.
Hermatrix-3, the smallest of the convoy, manages to switch to planetside navigation and mitigates the damage from the crash. If they want to get off-planet, they'll need some serious repairs, but in the meantime they can still move through the water like a particularly clumsy and slow submarine. The problem is figuring out where they are besides "deep, deep underwater," and what exactly the giant lifeforms the scanner insists are out there are...
Of course, there's groups within each ship as well. The friend groups of HC's staff and passengers does not necessarily correlate to ship assignment, which only adds to the stress of crashing on a supposedly-safe planet's anti-spacecraft gun.
Hermatrix-1's survivors: BDubs (architect, passenger), Zedaph (theoretical physicist), Pearl (janitor), Beef (psychologist), False (metallurgist, passenger), Etho (navigator), Scar (actor, passenger), Hypno (gov't agent, passenger), Iskall (athlete, passenger), xB (xenohistorian, passenger), Jevin (communicator specialist), Keralis (doctor)
Hermatrix-2's survivors: Ren (captain), Xisuma (cybersec specialist), Gem (ambassador, passenger), Impulse (chemist, passenger), Wels (bodyguard, passenger), Joe (teacher, passenger), Cub (CEO, pasenger), Grian (shipwright)
Hermatrix-3's survivors: Doc (spacecraft engineer), Mumbo (architect, passenger), Stress (pharmacologist), Tango (mechanical engineer, passenger), Cleo (acting captain)
If it doesn't clarify them as a passenger, then they are a member of the ship's crew. Loosely based on s9 roles, if that wasn't clear - though some of these are definitely going to change because I don't know some of these Hermits well enough yet.

I love how shy the Warpers seem when you try to approach them when healthy. Ryley just swims up to them, they do their cute screeching noise, and teleport away and hope he's gone by the time they return. They're just shy little guys who wouldn't think twice about killing the infected.
Logically, I know it would be more along the lines of them being annoyed by some healthy creature getting in the way of their work and trying to ignore them, but I like the idea of them just being shy guys.

I like to think that when Ryley breaks away from Robin and Al-an's compeny and Alterra finally finds and gets their hands on him, there is no doubt his been in close contact with architect everyone's trying to get their hands on.
His precursor prosthetic cant lie, and eventually they duo is forced return to earth to save their fishyboil.
But only issue is Al-an has no damn clue what a common human spacecraft looks like, so he just rounds it down to 'vehicle'.
so earth's newscast are blowing up with reports of the Titanic circling earth's atmosphere while others claim it's a space fairing 4x4 truck and other see a massive post war ship with weapons out and all while everyone else thinks its a meteorite big enough to destroy the planet.
All the while Ryley has no clue what the hell is happening.

So... /do/ they manage to make the cure in time? And if yes, is it a combined effort between them, like Emmet is putting the pieces together way faster than Ingo was able to, because Ingo already figured a lot of it out and put it in his recordings, but because it took so long to do it on his own, it left Ingo kind of incapable of actually pulling it off, since you said it's not actually easy and he needed to also find a way to stave it off as much as he could. Which then leaves it up to Emmet to do most of the manual labor after Ingo did most of the heavy lifting on the investigative side. Or something completely different, idk, you're the one actually playing and are also an awesome writer, so I trust that you know how to make it work if not like that. Do they find each other before they finish the cure or after it? I'm kind of assuming it's not actually too late to save Ingo and that Emmet is able to actually find him
hmmm, ok what i'm thinking for right now is that, ingo comes really close on his own- he knows where the primary containment facility is, he has a hazy idea of what's down there, he's well on his way to building a vehicle that can survive at those depths- but... like you said, it takes too long, esp. on his own. he's really sick by this point, and it's a long fucking trip, and he's not sure he's up to surviving it. to say nothing of dodging all the things that are inevitably going to try and stop him on the way there, or whatever's going to be required once he makes it. but he's about ready to try anyway, gamble the last of his luck because what choice does he have,
when in comes emmet. who's had much less time with kharaa and is, comparatively, much stronger still. and who is absolutely prepared for whatever-the-hell might be down there, as long as there's a cure at the end of it.
i think they go together, though, in a sub, and i think by the end of it emmet's practically carrying ingo bc he's just too weak to even stand under his own power anymore

Okay so gameplay wise there is nothing out there except the Ghosts. The area literally drops off and flattens out for a long time with no recourses. Only reason to go out there is to see how long you can outlast the Ghosts. If you manage to get far enough away i believe you just get teleported back to spawn.
Lore wise, its called Crater's Edge because the area the player crash lands in is basically a dormant undersea volcano that had the top leveled (a guyot i think) and that section/drop off is the end of the Guyot into open waters to the rest of the planet. This area is filled with nothing but plankton and leviathans. (there're theories on whether a certain leviathan actually used to live there or not before the games events)
There is more to the planet but as players you only know about/have access to The Crater. You only find out about there being more to the planet in the second game since it takes place on the same planet but in a different area entirely.
So sorry for rambling. I'm probably missing some information, but this is more or less what I mean by there is something out there. Though I originally meant for the ask to be a joke when I said "Three Adult Ghost Leviathans that will stop at nothing to get to you" part (that is a thing though)
Hope you have a nice day/night dear. Take Care!
oh huh! i thought they put an actual boundary in but guess not
didnt know that! i thought the crater('s cross-section) would look like this from the side
Tumblr media
where youre just kind of stuck and surrounded by mountains. guess not then! maybe we will be able to go to the giant shipwreck, provided the ghost leviathans dont fucking kill mc somehow. doubt it though
Tumblr media
ohh so this is what it looks like

A DpxDc prompt because I <3 all of you but am too shy to talk in the discord.
The Subnautica au I promised! (I might make two of them)
Okay, so Danny is around 14 or 15 in this. He is still a halfa but the portal has been temporarily closed for plot reasons. So the portal is closed and Danny has no clue what to do now. Due to the portal being closed Danny's grades have improved exponentially enough that he gets an work offer from Altera (ignore the child labor it's the Giw/Altera's shady business practices fault)
Danny is ecstatic because he's finally getting the opportunity to go to space! He knows if he waits the portal will be reopened and he'll never have a chance like this again so he takes it. In less than a month Danny has been trained and is shipped off to the Aurora. He's heading towards planet 4546b with very little information on the planet itself.
The crash happens and Danny doesn't use his powers to save the ship because something around the atmosphere was preventing full accessing his powers in full. Danny scrambles to the life pods and ends up being the only one in life pod five. The whole life pod scene happens with Danny being knocked out by the panel flying off the wall.
He wakes up with the life pod on fire and quickly uses what he can of his ice powers to put it out not realizing there's a fire extinguisher. Danny exits the life pod and realizes that a lot of people he talked to on the ship not even a day ago were probably dead. Judging by his inability to go ghost, he wouldn't be reuniting with them in the ghost zone any time soon.
He is devastated but goes about exploring and trying to find any other survivors. His hope of finding survivors near the crash zone dies when the ship explodes and starts leaking deadly radiation. Danny of course rushes to try and fix this. It's easier for him to get there because he can stay under water for an inhuman amount of time and has a built up immunity to radiation as a halfa.
Now to the DC part of this. Let's stick with only the batfam existing in this universe. The entire batfam are classified as leviathan's. All of them have two forms with one of said forms being semi humanoid mer like appearance. They are still pretty big in this form, think 7-8ft at the smallest (aka Damian) The other form is something I like to call
Big f-ken fish™
Which is full on terrifying reapers (we'll decide what each of the fam specifically look like later) and a lot of them are chilling in the crash zone when Danny is fixing the Aurora's reactor. Danny has not yet been spotted by the reapers.
Now they're already pissed off because a big arse ship just crashed into their planet and destroyed a great deal of it. They don't exactly know what a space ship is but they do know that the technology is advanced and the only thing remotely close on their planet is from the precursors who were a bunch of pricks.
Before the explosion the fam kept an eye on the weird creatures that crawled out of the metal eggs They watch them almost immediately start dying from predators or Kharaa. They were there when the ship exploded and started leaking radiation and killing the local wild life much to Damian's despair.
So the Fam are pretty pissed off at this point and are circling the ship. They immediately noticed when the ship stops leaking radiation and spot Danny swimming away from the reck quicker than any of the other ones that crawled out of the eggs.
Granted most of the other ones from the eggs immediately died and didn't have faces (the wet suits looked weird and Danny refuses to wear them no matter how much easier they would make things >:(
They start watching him because obviously there's something odd about this thing it looks kinda like a much smaller version of their smaller forms. Danny is getting pretty ticked off that his PDA keeps making false alarms of leviathan's. Duke, and tim are the ones monitoring Danny in the safe shallows. Jason and Dick in the crash zone. Barbra and Stephanie in the kelp forest. Cass and Bruce are patrolling the grassy plateaus.Damian is by himself at the quarantine gun/ sunbeam landing sight.
Danny sets up base near the quarantine gun™ because for some reason even though he's not infected he can't turn the damn thing off. So Damian is the only one currently capable of watching him. Damian has a theory that he 100% sure is correct. As a 1600 year old leviathan he's not a baby he's almost an adult and doesn't remember being a baby. This thing crawled out of an egg and is super tiny so it is obviously a baby and a very smart one at that. While it didn't have the claws, gills, tail, or scales they had it was super fast, could freeze things, had super strong hands despite looking dull and frail, it could take useless scraps and rocks and turn them into complex structures. It was obviously a new type of leviathan the ship carrying eggs. Danny was the smallest of the babies but he was also the strongest, and smartest; surviving long enough to have eyes and hair. This baby was young enough that he still needed to surface for air he needed to be protected.
Danny has no clue he's now being stalked by a group of reapers that decided he was their new baby brother/son

Ramblings of mine that I pasted and copied from discord about a possible subnautica au
So, I've been thinking about a subnautica Au. And I know there are a few like that, but I've noticed that all the ones I've seen have been about the reader falling into B4546 after the Aurora crashed and taking many factors out of the game. So I want to take the Below Zero DLC as a base and slide to the end of the first game.
The reader steals a ship, and is basically a fugitive from the law and might not be able to have a normal life on earth because of it, but they doesn't care and goes to B4546 to find out what happened to his research team. Basically the reader studied all his life and investigated from earth that planet along with other humans that were on that alien planet, but suddenly he gets kicked out of his job and the whole investigation is closed, throwing all his life away as if it was nothing. For a few years they go from one lab to another but find nothing that interests them, only thinking about why the research was shut down. So they ignore Alterra's warnings and go off to investigate.
What happened was simple, a couple of sibling specimens were captured, and the older brother went to rescue them, tearing down all the foundations and the few who escaped were contaminated with the toxin of that leviathan and other substances that were in the lab, creating a deadly disease not only in B4546, but also on earth that was brought by the few members who returned.
Then, the reader arrives and meets Sun and Moon, when he finds the foundations of the laboratories they are contaminated with a disease and neither Sun or Moon knows what is going on other than that their human is sick. The Leviathan are immune thanks to an antibody, but they are too young to expel it and heal the reader. And that's where Eclipse comes in, who doesn't trust the reader but tolerates him because his siblings are fond of him. The older leviathan at a certain point will give the reader the cure, but he has to help him find a way to distribute the cure to his dying planet.
I'm thinking of adding an AI, maybe Gramrock freddy, who will be connected to the reader's brain in a similar way to how Al-An connects to Robin, but instead of an alien it's an AI left behind by his fellow researchers at one of their facilities. And eventually he will get a robotic body and help the reader find a cure along the way.
Needless to say, the reader stays with the boys, in deep areas where Alterra will never find them. He meets Vanessa, who plays the role of Marguerit. Eventually she will become like a sister to the reader, but at first she will be unwelcome.
Actually forget about Eclipse asking the reader to help him spread the cure, Eclipse is on a continuous journey to do it himself and that is why it is difficult to find him. What Eclipse asks the reader to do is to find the leviathan that were kidnapped when they were just eggs, since their species is very small and when the humans kidnapped Sun and Moon they also took many offspring. Only the hatchlings went to a different facility and could never be found. Eclipse will save the reader's life if the reader saves the life of the youngest of his species, then a search will take place similar to the case of Emperor Leviathan asking for help for his children to be born. The reader finds the base in very low areas and there are a couple of dozen eggs of celestial leviathanes, gets what is necessary for them to hatch and guides them to a portal to be free. Sun and Moon do their best to help the reader in his quest but are separated for a moment there, and Eclipse later sees the hatchlings and gives the reader the cure.
