I can’t remember where sis bought these blocks of cakes from so let’s just enjoy the pictures (you) while I eat them. :D First one is Marbled Butter Cake with chocolate whirls though the butter profile is a little lacking. Likewise for the Walnut Butter Cake but the crunchy nuts gave this confection added texture and nutty fragrance.

One look at this Kueh Lapis Legit (印尼千层蛋糕), I know that it did not use enough butter in the batter. Because the genuine cake is a rich and moist butter cake baked layer by layer so much so that you can see oil stain at the base of the cake due to the copious amount of butter used.

first icon: iced gem biscuits

i know these are british but they were just such a constant in my childhood i had to use them. tbh i don't even like them as much but they were just at every birthday party i went to LMAO. also they're multicoloured <3 🏳️‍🌈

second icon: kuehs

to be specific: rainbow kueh lapis (the rainbow one 🏳️‍🌈), ondeh ondeh (the green ball with coconut flakes), and tutu kueh (white one). i don't think there is a translation for the word kueh but they're essentially just bite-sized snacks/desserts. rainbow kueh is made of soft and chewy multicoloured layers stacked on one another. you can technically bite into one as a whole and eat it quick but most people would peel off each layer and eat each separately. ondeh ondeh are pandan infused rice flour dough rolled into a ball which is filled with a palm sugar filling and coated with coconut flakes. tutu kueh is a steamed rice flour cake filled with a coconut filling.

introducing my chinese grandmother to french desserts has been the best thing i've ever done. considering she only speaks chinese and dialects, her trying to describe to me Cannelés de Bordeaux or Financiers so that I will make them for her has been amazing

also, for those that know, i attempted to make lapis legit/ kek lapis/ kueh lapis for the first time this Chinese New Year and it was such a success!!

(i did speak to grandaunts that have been making them for 50 years for feedback and techniques to improve on)

🥔 Potato Pave ($15++)

Crispy on the outside with many soft layers like a kueh lapis. Price is worth the effort for making this cause it's too much work to make at home. Between you and me, this is nice to have but fries still have my heart.

🍫 Dark Chocolate Mousse ($12++)

Wanted to try the chocolate tart but we were a month too late. It's really intense, maybe too intense for me. But it's good quality.

The fried chicken set for 2 looks really enticing. Will probably be back to try that!
