portrayed by Veronica Ngo
PAIGE TICO
Paige Tico, nicknamed Pae-Pae by her sister, was a human female who served as a gunner on a MG-100 StarFortress SF-17 in the Resistance during their conflict with the First Order. She was the sister of Rose Tico, a Resistance maintenance worker. During the evacuation of the Resistance base on D'Qar, Tico's bomber flew against the First Order Mandator IV-class Siege Dreadnought Fulminatrix and successfully destroyed it with the bomber's payload. However, the resulting explosion engulfed the bomber and took Tico's life. Her final actions allowed the Resistance's fleet to escape D'Qar's system.

One ship exposes everything wrong with TRoS
Heaven help me, I’m back on my bullshit.
Alright, so, I enjoyed The Rise of Skywalker when I watched it. I actually watched it twice, once on my own when I rushed to see it as soon as possible in order to beat spoilers, and once with my family, in what was a semi-annual new year tradition for us during those four years that a Star Wars film released.
But that doesn’t mean it was good. I enjoyed Transformers: Dark of the Moon the first time I watched it, and that movie’s still a steaming pile of shit. I was admittedly fifteen when I saw DotM, but still.
My point is that I’m fully capable of enjoying crappy films.
But there’s one thing, one thing about TRoS that exemplifies so many of the problems with TRoS as a whole, if not everything (And by that I mean with TRoS specifically, the woeful treatment of John Boyega and Kelly Marie Tran is a Whole Trilogy Problem). And it’s a ship. Specifically this ship.
Tumblr media
The Resistance Y-Wing. I hate this ship with the fiery passion of an exploding star, and to talk about why, we need to first go back to The Last Jedi and its conspicuous lack of Y-Wings.
One of the things that I disliked most about the Sequels before TRoS put all the other problems into stark light was the lack of new ships. Instead of new vehicles, we got shinier, sleeker versions of the ships from the original trilogy. And I disliked this because it’s the opposite of what the Prequels did.
Episodes I-III don’t feature more primitive versions of the X-Wing and TIE Fighter, but instead have similar vehicles that evoke the classics while still having an identity of their own.
The ARC-170 looks kinda like an X-Wing, but it’s bigger and has more weapons and crew, and you get why the well-funded Republic can afford things like this while the scrappy Rebels can’t.
The Eta-2 is a predecessor to the TIE Fighter, but it being employed exclusively by Jedi makes a lot of sense, of course a precognitive wizard with superhuman reflexes can do well in a light, unshielded ship, while in the hands of the Empire’s military they’re just expendable swarm fighters.
But then in the Sequels, rather than evolve the ships into new forms, they just made new incarnations of the X-Wing, TIE Fighter, A-Wing, TIE Interceptor, B-Wing, and of course the Y-Wing.
Well, except for one movie: The Last Jedi.
At the outset of the film, we’re introduced to this ship.
Tumblr media
This is the MG-100 StarFortress, AKA “That ship all the Star Wars Youtubers hate”. It’s designed to be a much heavier and bulkier version of the B-Wing Starfighter, and is even made by the same people.
From questions about how the bombs “fall” toward the Dreadnought (The answer is magnets) to claims that they’re completely useless because most of the ones in the film died so easily, these things have been put through the wringer by the fandom, and honestly they don’t deserve it? What destroyed the StarFortresses in the film wasn’t their own weaknesses, but them being deployed in too tight a formation. It was a tactical fuckup, not a problem with the ship’s design.
And given that the whole point of the battle over D’Qar is that Poe makes a tactical fuckup to kickstart his development into the new leader of the Resistance as a whole, adding another layer makes sense to me.
But we live in a post-CinemaSins world of media consumption, where every plot-point that isn’t spelled out with a flowchart and an audio commentary by the writers is actually a plothole.
We also live in an era where Star Wars fans pine for the days of the Legends canon where everything about new ships, species, and worlds was explained in background lore and books, and are angry that the new Canon is... doing exactly the same thing?
Seriously, how much exposition and lore dumping is actually present in any of the Star Wars films? Not a whole lot. And that applies to all three eras.
So the StarFortress’ appearance in the film and the lack of Y-Wings led to a bevy of armchair writers demanding to know why the Resistance weren’t using Y-Wings and why they were using those “Resistance Bombers” that are just ‘terrible’.
Answer? Because the Y-Wings sucked shit.
Seriously, go back to the Original Trilogy and try to keep track of the Y-Wings, and see what they actually do, and you’ll find that what they do is “Explode, mostly.”
We’re first introduced to the Y-Wings in A New Hope, and they’re supposed to be the ones performing the Trench Run while the X-Wings cover them, and to their credit, they try.
And then they all get blown up by Vader and his wingmen before they can even take a shot at the exhaust port. Well, except that one that appears with the rebel ships flying away from the Death Star.
Tumblr media
Where the fuck were you when the X-Wings were doing the attack run?
The Y-Wings got absolutely wrecked.
Ancillary media would go on to explain that the Y-Wings were beat-up old vehicles that were no longer fit for purpose, but the Rebels had to use them anyway because they had basically no money. They’d stripped down the ships and removed a bunch of their more costly features just to make them viable, and the results of that were pretty clear.
Of course, the Y-Wings were still present in the later films. They don’t do anything in The Empire Strikes Back, but they play a role in Return of the Jedi.
Naturally, that role is mostly “Get blown up while the other ships do the important stuff”.
Despite supposedly being a fighter-bomber that was designed to do significant damage to capital ships, does the Y-Wing play a role in the destruction of the Executor? Does it fuck. Destroying the Imperial flagship’s deflector shields and the subsequent suicidal ram attack on the bridge are tasks that are both performed by the goddamn A-Wings. Y’know, the light interceptors?
The Y-Wings get shown up at their own job by the ships that are there to protect them from TIE Fighters.
Ancillary media again explains why they’re still there. While the Rebels have a newer, better fighter-bomber in the B-Wing, the B-Wing is expensive as fuck and also really difficult to fly.
Tumblr media
A non-centreline cockpit that rotates will do that to a ship.
Still, the B-Wing was a better bomber than the Y-Wing ever was (And the StarFortress was better than them both at that role).
All this adds up to a simple fact: There were very good reasons why the Resistance weren’t using Y-Wings. And there were even reasonable reasons to choose the StarFortress compared to the B-Wing itself, given that the Resistance are still undermanned and under-funded, especially with the New Republic getting nuked midway through The Force Awakens. It being easier to fly and having more armaments would have made it a viable choice for the Resistance.
Buuuut oops, people didn’t like the StarFortress and we can’t make the Internet angry at us again! Better put the Y-Wings back in for Episode IX, and show them destroying a Xyston-class Destroyer, that’ll make them happy!
And sure, okay, giving the Resistance a fighter/bomber is probably a good idea. And they already have New X-Wings and New A-Wings, so where’s the harm in a New Y-Wing?
Alright, alright, sure. But why the fuck does it look like this?
Tumblr media
If this is a new ship, why is it already stripped-down like the ones in the Original Trilogy? Why doesn’t it look like the actual brand-new Y-Wings we saw in The Clone Wars?
Tumblr media
Now that’s more like it. Still visibly a Y-Wing, but with more of an identity of its own.
Seriously, “Literally the same ship but without its armour pulled off” has more of a unique identity than the crowd-pleasing New Y-Wing.
And that, in and of itself, is the essence of The Rise of Skywalker.
It’s blind, empty fanservice, rushing to include as much nostalgia-pandering as possible to try and get the fanbase back on-side after The Last Jedi didn’t do what the fanboys wanted it to do.
This is a whole near- three hour movie whose only message is “Yes, Youtubers making TFA critiques longer than an entire season of TCW, we hear you, we’ll make it for you, please love us!”
And, almost entirely predictably, it was shite.
It was riddled with plotholes and none of the scenes had any time to breathe because the movie was too desperately trying to rush itself to the next crowd-pleasing scene in a desperate attempt to wank off as many disgruntled fanboys as it possibly could.
Luke with his green saber! Jedi Leia! Chewie gets a medal! Lando! Luke raises his X-Wing out of the water! The main villain is a testicle in a bathrobe again! Snork origin! Original-flavour Star Destroyers! Rose doesn’t exist! Rey had a super-special secret magical bloodline the whole time and Luke and Leia totally knew even though Luke has literally no idea who she is in Episode VIII! Luke actually was just afraid of the bad guys in Episode VII, none of that self-imposed exile for his own mistakes nonsense! Y-Wings.
I mean fuck. Disagree with Luke’s portrayal in TLJ all you like, I certainly have my issues with it, but I lay those at the feet of JJ for making Luke’s absence into one of his fucking Mystery Boxes, and then deciding that, even though last time Luke sensed Leia and Han might be in danger, he abandoned his Jedi training, hopped in an X-Wing, and flew halfway across the galaxy to try and save them, he wouldn’t do shit when the First Order pointed a star-powered System-Killer 9000 at Leia, and Han got himself killed trying to redeem Kyle Ron. Like how in fuck was Rian supposed to explain Luke’s inaction in VII?
But regardless of the problems with that Luke portrayal, at least Mark Hamill gave it his all. Hell, it might be his best performance in the Star Wars franchise!
In TRoS, he shows up in a bad wig, waves a middle finger at TLJ, and ascends to his final form as a Lightsaber Delivery Boy, because apparently all you need to kill a Sith who literally clawed his way back from death is two lightsabers. Haunting Kyle Ron? Nope. Providing guidance as a ghost? Not really.
And y’know what the kicker is? It didn’t fucking work. Lucasfilm and Disney fucking gutted this trilogy, sliced out the integrity, surgically removed the soul of Episode IX in a desperate effort to make the Internet’s most unpleasable fanbase happy, and it didn’t work. They still hate it! Now they just concoct hour-long videos about how much they would’ve preferred to have the Trevorrow script (Which is admittedly much better, albeit still with it’s far share of giant flaws), which was probably thrown out because it wasn’t fanservicey enough!
The Rise of Skywalker is an awful film. It’s a loose collection of nostalgia-baiting moments, roughly stapled together around the skeleton of a plot that was never properly developed. It’s a Frankenstein’s Monster of a movie, but, and I say this with full offense, the Victor Frankenstein in this tragic story isn’t Lucasfilm or Disney or Kathleen Kennedy or Rian Johnson, or even JJ Abrams. It’s you, Star Wars Fandom. It is your monster.

The MG-100 StarFortress SF-17, also known as the B/SF-17 heavy bomber, was a model of heavy bomber manufactured by Slayn & Korpil for use by the New Republic during the late stages of the Galactic Civil War. Following the Galactic Concordance and New Republic disarmament, the ship was primarily used in civilian applications. Several ships were used by the Resistance during its war with the First Order around 34 ABY, earning it the name Resistance Bomber.

Hosnian System
NRS Ranger
Conference Room
1902 hrs
Phlaxes looked around the table, Captain Namin was on his right and on his left was the Duro Space Station Commander, he tried recalling the name but he gave up after a few moments. Also around the table was, Alek Mauz the Captain of the Air Group, The Tagurta, Captain Anatha Violet Captain of the Theed another Star Cruiser, Captain Gideon Park Captain of the Torrent the third MC-80 Cruiser that made up task force four and the Bothan L.T Commander Ralrost Maldoza. The last person in the room was the hulking Wookie Major Snrykkk. But the empty chair at the head of the table drew everyone's attention.
“I don’t know why I’m here, after last meeting” Assistant to Senate Daline Phlaxes said spiteful
“I don’t know either but I know the Admiral has a reason, so trust in that reason” Captain Namin said calmly
As Thadmin entered the room, and set down a holo transmitter.
The pale red headed man said over the holo.
“Today is the end of the Republic.
The end of a regime that acquiesces to disorder.
At this very moment in a system far from here, the New Republic lies to the galaxy while secretly supporting the treachery of the rogues of the Resistance.
This fierce machine which you have built, upon which we stand will bring an end to the Senate, to their cherished fleet.
All remaining systems will bow to the First Order and will remember this as the last day of the Republic!"
Admiral Thadmin began “13 hours ago his message was transmitted on every channel across the galaxy.” His voice paused and became more serious “The final casualty report are still coming in but what is known is all seven Starhawk Battleships, all 12 Star Cruisers dozens of light cruisers and support craft were all destroyed” Thadmin looked down and paused for a few seconds, causing each person at the table to focus on each of the Admirals words “It, has, been ,confirmed, that, that, I am now the highest ranking Naval Officer in the Fleet.” His words hung their full of the unsure confidence that all people have when responsibility is thrust upon them. Thadmin took a breath and recovered his confidence “That is why I’m issuing Battle Order Number One” Thadmin held up his data pad and read “Make no mistake from now on we are at war. First All New Republic Ships will stay on Yellow Alert for the duration of the Crisis. Second all surviving New Republic Ships shall retreat to Raysho Station to be resupplied and rearmed as soon as possible, Commander, is that possible?” Thadmin looked at Commander Chino who replied,
“Yes sir!”
“Very good, now more than ever we need steady nerves and stout hearts”
“YES SIR!” All the officers around the table shouted synchronized
“Good! Now, Commander Chino, tell us what happened.” Thadmin said sternly as he took a seat
“Yes, sir” Chino said standing up and displaying holographic data “at 21:47 five superlaser bolts entered the Hosnian System, one minute later they impacted Hosian Prime briefly causing a solar singularity three seconds later the bolts impacted all other planets in the Hosian system penetrating to the core and causing almost instant disintegration, At 22:07 the Hosian Prime Singularity collapse.”
“Ok but how did your station survive?” Captain Park said
“Raysho station, primary source of power is solar, so when long range scanners picked up the Superlaser bolts I had all power diverted to the shields. Usually it takes 10 minutes at .8 lightyears to fully charge the station. As far as we could tell the Hosnian Prime Solar Singularity formed it supercharged the shields even though it lasted 15 minutes it was .000005 lightyears away and since all power was diverted to the shields all that solar energy went directly to the shields saving the station. It almost blew out every circuit in Raysho Station.” Commander Chino explained
“Ralrost has the Bothan network picked up anything further information?” Thadmin asked
“Yes, sir, hours before the attack The Resistance engaged a First Order division on Takodana, this caused the First Order to initiate the preemptive strike against the Hosnian system, The Resistance is now currently launching attack against Starkiller base, the super weapon responsible for the destruction of the Hosnian System; however, The Resistance base has been found and The First Order is assembling a Task Force to Count Attack” Maldoza said
“Sir, should we help them?” Alek asked firmly
“I wish we could CAG but our Star Cruisers and Fighter Squadrons to valuable to risk, right now but we are the ONLY defense the New Republic has left” Thadmin said matching Alek’s firmness
“But sir, if they succeed they are going to need help” Alek said
“I know, but we don’t have any craft to spare” Thadmin explained disappointed
“Well, that not entirely true, sir, we have a dozen or so old MG-100 StarFortress Bombers that don't serve us anymore” Commander Chino said
“Ok, once the Torrent and Ranger are recharged and resupplied we will depart to deliver those bombers” Thadmin said “Captain Namin I’m putting you in charge of this one, remember DO NOT RISK OUR CRUISERS.
“Yes, sir” Namin said, accepting the responsibility of the cruisers.
“Excuse me sir, what about the Theed?” Captain Violet asked tentatively
“I’m glad you asked, Captain, A.S Phlaxes” Thadmin said, causing Phlaxes to snap up in his seat “Despite all your flaw, no one knows more nor can fight more effectively in the realm of politics than you, so while we fight the war, we need you to keep the New Republic alive and running, the Theed will escort you to Ryloth, now why Ryloth you might ask” Thadmin said taking the word out of Phlaxes and Violet’s mouth. “We have been attempting to track all surviving senators, the first one is Senator Galbo Sandcha of Ryloth.”
“Understood sir,” Captain Violet said hesitantly
As the meeting continued Joker made his way through the ship until he arrived at the Female Marine barracks he knocked twice. L.t Driver answered the door
“Oh hey Joker,” she said trying to muster a little happiness in her voice
“Hey Lila, I’m just wondering if you're doing alright?” Joker asked
“Oh yeah, I’ll be alright but, it’s just hard to process” Lila said beginning to remove the sadness from her voice
“Did you know, Jawook, well?” Joker asked
“Umm, yeah, yeah I knew him very well, do you want to come in?” Lila asked
“Um, sure, thanks” Joker said
Lila led the way in, Joker noticed the similarities to the Pilot barracks, with each bunk bed being well made and the floor clear of debris, then he began to notice the differences, it appeard of the 12 Bunk beds but only two Foot lockers. He continued to follow Lila to her bunk, which was a top bunk the unit boarding the leftmost wall, when she arrived she moved Jawook’s Ryyk Blade from where it sat on her bunk she then climbed up and sat down. Joker followed her and sat on the top bunk of the opposing unit letting his feet dangle.
“Sorry for the lack of mess” Lila said “There aren't too many Female Marines.
Joker laughed that off and asked “Then whose foot locker is that?”
“Oh thats L.t Jax’s bunk, she's one of the bridge sensor officers but she's on duty now” Lila said, “she moved in once she learned that I was here alone and it's kinda nice to talk to someone”
“I know the feeling,” Joker said before changing the subject “So how did you know Jawook so well?”
“Wait here” Lila said, jumping down and kneeling by her footlocker she pulled out a holo photo and jumped back up and handed it to Joker, Joker looked at it, it showed two Wookies and an older Human Male and a young human toddler. “That’s me” Lila said smiling
“Wow, I didn't know your were so hairy back then” Joker said
“Not the Wookies the Girl” Lila said playful punching Joker dangling leg “This was my Dad’s proudest moment, the day he met Chewbacca,”
“How’d he met Chewbacca” Joker asked
“Well it's a long story but he was Biologist for the Empire on Kashyyyk, he was always kind to the Wookies sneaking in extra food and supplies and such, and he developed a strong friendship with Jawook”
“He sounds like a great guy” Joker said
“Yeah, he is” Lila said smiling “the Wookies really respected my dad for that”
“Wow I could imagine” Joker said
“That picture was taken when the New Republic Liberated Kashyyyk the Wookies vouched for my dad and he was accepted into their culture and he stayed on Kashyyyk using his biology skills to help regrow the Black Forest” Lila said
“Wow that's amazing” Joker said thoroughly enjoying how L.t Driver told the story
“But when I was born, during the Imperial reign Jawook swore that he will protect my dad’s family, my dad took him up on that offer when the New Republic came and the shooting started, My dad hid my mom and I with Jawook until it was over ever since then Jawook has almost felt like my adopted dad, and he helped me get into the Navy, and even brought my name up to Captain Namin for assignment to the Ranger.” She said, beginning to break into tears “I just can’t believe he’s gone, he was always been there for me, and now he no longer will be”
“Hey, Lila,” Joker said laying his hand over her’s “it's going to be alright,”
“It’s easy for you to say that, you can always make Jokes of things and be alright” Lila said wiping tears with her free hand
“Your right, it is easy for me to say, I never had anyone I care about leave me” Joker said his tone softening. “But if you love and honor Jawook, that is a great blessing, because that mean you can love, you can feel positive feelings, sadness is not bad, it is an indicator of love, and that's something I have not experienced so count your blessings” Joker finished with a single tear crawling out.
Lila looked up into Joker’s eyes releasing his hand “aww thanks, Joker, your sweeter than what the rumors said”
“What rumors!?” Joker said contorting his voice in moch offense
Lila laughed it off, Joker jumped down from off the bunk and said “Do you want to grab some caff?”
“Sure, I could use some,” She said, joining him.
As they walked out of the room, Lila linked her arm through Joker’s, Joker lips tilted into a half grin
“L.t Diver you know romantic relationships are forbidden between officers on the same ship!” Joker said spoofing regulations
“I know” Lila said sweeter than Rishi Honey “but if anyone asked, I’ll just say I’m being escorted by my faivor X-Wing Pilot”
“Lila, are you sportsflrting with me?” Joker asked fully knowing she was
“Maybe,” she said with a wink.

Tarkin’s Folly - Ch. 2
Pairing: Armitage Hux x Enyo Tarkin (OC) Word Count: 2,001 Tags: Canon-Compliant until TROS, Awkward Romance, Emotionally Repressed Hux, Fixing Canon With A Hammer
Summary: Admiral Tarkin’s presence on the Steadfast is of no comfort to General Hux. The lofty weight of her family name and the reputation which proceeds her does not bode well for his future on High Command. [Read it on AO3] —
ADMIRAL TARKIN STOOD AT THE END OF THE LONG AND GLOSSY BLACK TABLE.
She quietly waited for the Supreme's Leader permission to speak, which he gave to her with a slightly bored wave of his hand. Hux could make out the slight eagerness he masked with the gesture, watching the way his shoulders relaxed as he sat in the place of honor. The General quickly turned his head so that Ren wouldn't catch him looking.
Admiral Tarkin's voice held a clear and grandiloquent quality begotten from her Eriaduian accent, which was a borrowed dialect of the Core-World's Basic – made sharp by Imperial Remnant influence. "Allegiant General Pryde and Supreme Leader Kylo Ren have asked me to prepare and present a simple evaluation of any of the high-ranking officers currently serving here on the Steadfast. I was allowed to pick anyone of my own choosing, and provide my own materials as I saw fit."
Hux felt his stomach drop. Tarkin had to know how Pryde and Ren felt about him, and she'd truly be foolish if she didn't leap on the opportunity to disparage him again in front of all the others. He knew he was the weakest link on the Council. This would be like a final nail in the coffin of his failed career, a springboard for which she could use the momentum to further her own. And if she truly was a Tarkin-- then she was no fool.
In the week she had been on board, Hux had not had a single chance to speak with the woman -- nor had much time to even consider her presence much besides on the first day of her arrival. Ren had him running off on unimportant missions, personally seeing to it that his day-to-day life was absolutely miserable even when he could not physically be there to see it.
Admiral Tarkin's grey-blue eyes pierced his skull as she turned her gaze to him for a brief moment, causing him to avert his own. Some at the table squirmed uncomfortably, either knowing the sequence of events about to happen and pitying Hux -- or more likely: Worried that her report would be about them.
She pulled a small holoprojector device from her pocket and activated it. An image of a grid and a flat rendition of D'Qar appeared and spread out over the table, and Hux immediately knew what sort of awfulness was about to transpire.
"If you could all draw your attention to the holoprojector, please. This is a representation of the failed engagement at D'Qar," She began, her voice settling in a calm and practiced lilt. "As I'm sure you all know, The Resistance was able to flee from this encounter despite the odds being heavily in First Order favor."
From the corner of his eye, Hux saw Ren lean forward in his chair with interest -- but felt the helmeted man's heavy gaze on his own countenance, watching him for any sort of reaction. He tried very hard not to give him the satisfaction, but a lump was forming in his throat that he had to swallow eventually.
"The active ships in the engagement are as follows:" As she spoke the names, the images appeared on the grid in formation. "One Mandator-IV Class C Siege Dreadnaught called the Fulminatrix, and Three Resurgent-Class Battlecruisers --plus, later, our scrambled Tie-Fighters. This was against the Resistance's One MC85 Star Cruiser, several MG-100 StarFortress SF-17's, several small squadrons of X and A-Wings. There were other Resistance ships present, but not strictly combat builds. To remind you, The Resistance was in the process of evacuating from their base of D'Qar and thus not in any sort of intelligent formation."
"Thankfully," She continued, "Their base planet-side was destroyed by the Fulminatrix's commander Captain Moden Canady. Our ships came upon the planet from hyperdrive, however you must note the formation that the ships are locked into."
The clear tactical mistake was on display for everyone to see. Hux's eyes averted from the grid, unable to take the wave of shame which washed over him. He felt Ren's eyes.
"The Resistance was able to drop a payload and destroy the Fulminatrix at the end of the engagement and escape due to many errors, including a delayed scrambling of our Tie-Fighters, as well as allowing an enemy ship behind our lines to take out all surface point-defense of the Dreadnaught. "
Hux had known the Resistance was failing, that this evacuation had been a last-ditch effort to survive. If he had simply destroyed them without the fanfare he was hoping to use for propaganda -- this would have been their final stand. His hubris haunted him -- He could have been in Pryde's place, promoted. He could have been hailed and applauded as the man who had finally stamped out the Resistance. But now he was forced to sit through a demonstration about how terrible of a commander he had once been -- a mistake, a moment of weakness -- and it's forevermore a mark against his otherwise impeccable file. Well, this and the fall of Starkiller base.
The holovid continued forward, the ships changing position. "Furthermore, I believe it was pure negligence and miscommunication which lead to the death of our personnel and the loss of the Fulminatrix. The battle formation as depicted is simply inefficient. To the point, the very sight of it makes one wonder if the commander of the engagement -- General Hux -- was purposefully sabotaging."
Hux jolted in his chair. How dare she accuse him of such a treasonous act? It was fine that she criticize him, but that was a measure too far. He felt his face grow hot in anger. His eyes locked with hers for a brief moment. He was surprised to find her expression was devoid of emotion.
"I have suggestions for how the engagement should have been handled." She clicks the holoprojector, playing a few more seconds of the holovid before pausing. The ships shift on the grid once more. "As you can see, this formation makes more sense. The battlecruisers would take escort position as I believe was intended, and thus would have the ability to create a defensive line for our Dreadnaught." The holovid illustrates this perfectly, and continues to animate as she speaks. "Furthermore, the Tie-Fighters should have been scrambled immediately, to take out the flotilla before it drew near. As an aside, I would have had the Dreadnaught prioritize the base just before or immediately after targeting the MC85 Star Cruiser -- if they had nowhere to go, the Resistance would have to take a moment to regroup and think of a new plan. This hesitation would have been our moment to attack. We direct our Tie-Fighters to clean up the survivors, and the Resistance would have been crushed."
The animation shows the rest of the ships being destroyed, then finishes. The blue glow of the projection ceases, and she places the holoprojector back into her pocket.
Ren is the first to speak, voice clipped by the vocoder of his helmet. "I applaud your...Subdued aggressiveness, Admiral Tarkin. To accuse General Hux of treason is not the angle I expected, but amusing. Furthermore, although it was not your task to come up with them -- your suggestions are...Noted."
Hux felt like a stone was lodged in his throat.
Tarkin’s face does not pale as a lesser person's might, though perhaps it was because she read Ren's comment as the compliment it was while discarding it's back-handedness. She stares right into the visor of Ren's mask. "I only provided the facts as I saw them, Supreme Leader. I expect my charges to go above and beyond in their tasks, and I uphold myself to my own standards."
"A commendable trait of anyone in a leadership position, indeed." Ren mutters, leaning ever forward. Hux hated the way he said it, in that voice he used when he pantomimed responsible authority. "However, it would do you well to be careful that your aspirations do not exceed you, Admiral."
Her mouth twitches downward, the confident mask cracking ever so slightly. This seems to be the result Ren wanted, because he leans back in his chair, looking smug and satisfied even with the helmet on his head. "Of course, Supreme Leader --” She answers, “Wise council indeed."
Ren defers to Pryde, nearly cutting off the end of Tarkin's sentence. "And what do you think, Allegiant General?"
Pryde seems to perk up considerably, his posture tense. "I believe her presentation to have been satisfactory, Supreme Leader."
Ren's voice is tight. "But what do you think, Allegiant General?" He presses. Pryde's face conceals his panic well.
"...Admiral Tarkin's suggestions are spot-on, and if I remember correctly, Captain Canady had also expressed displeasure with General Hux's methods before his untimely death. The engagement was a failure, through and through -- our victory at D'Qar quite phyrric for both involved--"
"Make no mistake, Allegiant General. The miscommunication was on Captain Canady's part." Tarkin interrupted, her voice sharp and eyes laser focused on her target. It was suddenly clear to Hux that she did not like Pryde in the least, which was of some – little – comfort. "The comms history shows General Hux attempted to have the Captain launch the Tie-Fighter squadrons upon exiting hyperspace. The problem was his lack of further correction. Captain Canady seemed to have misunderstood the order as preparation of launch only -- though I couldn't say why. I believe this was likely due to his personal feelings about the General, as I understand it. It is a disgrace." She spat the final word like it was poison. "I suspect we ask more of our officers, do we not? We shouldn't let personal grievances or opinions cost us valuable tech and personnel in the midst of engagements."
Hux was felt a cold sweat begin to break upon his brow. His embarrassing past was no secret, but he hated that she knew. Everyone knew. Canady, Pryde -- all the older ex-Imperial officers. Friends of his father. They watched him grow up, and even though he was nearing his 35th year many of them still saw him as a child and a mere extension of his father. A failed extension, even.
Pryde's face immediately flushed with anger, both from being talked down to by a lower officer and from understanding her underlying meaning. He did not chastise her with the Supreme Leader present, realizing Ren's lack of protest meant her comments were allowed. "...Of course, Admiral."
From his peripherals, Hux watched the Supreme Leader's helmet slowly turn to his side of the table. The tightness of Ren's voice was gone, instead replaced with barely filtered amusement. "General Hux, what do you have to say for yourself? Admiral Tarkin has suggested you appear so incompetent that it looks like purposeful sabotage."
The General grit his teeth, gnashing them in agony. Ren was enjoying this way too much -- and he wondered if he really set this all up just for the express purpose of his own amusement. It certainly wouldn't be out of character, that's for sure.
When Hux spoke, his voice remained level but wavered at the edges with hesitation."I am, of course, appalled at the accusations of treason suggested by Admiral Tarkin -- however, I must agree that the engagement at D'Qar was poorly executed."
Pryde snorted. "Of course you do, Hux. It's plain as anyone can see." Hux noticed Ren stiffen at Pryde's sudden outburst, curiously turning to face the Allegiant General but saying nothing.
"...Have you anything further to add, General Hux?" Was what Ren did say, after a moment of tense silence.
"...No, Supreme Leader."
"And you, Admiral Tarkin?" Ren asked, his helmet tilting slightly to suggest his gaze shifting.
"No, Supreme Leader." She echoed, sounding the smallest bit pleased with herself. Hux stole a moment to glance at her face and was not surprised to find a smug expression on it. He averted his eyes to the table like a kicked dog.
"...Very Well. You are all dismissed."

Total offense. The Evacuation of D’Qar and the destruction of the Dreadnought would’ve gone more smoothly and the vast majority of The Resistance Fleet, including Cobalt Squadron, including Paige Tico would STILL be alive if they just used Y-Wings, A-Wings and B-Wings instead of the useless ass Resistance Bombers we got. But because Rian Johnson wanted Poe to be demonized throughout the film and wanted The Resistance to be in ruins by the end of the movie, we just had to have those useless ships.
The bombers chosen for the Evacuation of D’Qar are a goddamn liability. MG-100 StarFortress SF-17 or The Resistance Heavy Bombers is just bad. It makes no sense. The Resistance has updated X-Wings, so why wouldn’t they have  Y-Wings, B-Wings, and A-Wings? They are more effective and less of a liability.  It only took ONE of those abysmally conceived bombers to destroy the dreadnought, and I’m pretty sure it started blowing up after only one or two bombs.
Y-Wings would have been way more effective than those new ships, which basically all just flew around until they were shot down one after the other and accomplished nothing. Like, only one of them even achieved what they set out to do… Pitiful. Y-Wings are fighter/bombers, they would have destroyed the Dreadnought with no casualties whatsoever.
Tumblr media
Y-Wings upgraded with new proton bombs would’ve got the job done, but that would’ve been overkill. They are the ships that beat the Malevolence and cut through the Ryloth blockade like butter, after all.
Tumblr media
They pack a punch with proper support, and they can at least outrun the explosives they drop.
Before anyone tells me the Y-Wings,  are outdated technology hasn’t radically advanced in Star Wars for thousands of years. The Y-Wing is relatively young compared to most other ship designs. The A-Wing is conceptually older, being a derivative of the old Aethersprite Jedi Starfighter that was in use before the Clone Wars, just like how the X-Wing is a derivative of the ARC-170 and Z-95 Headhunter, and the B-Wing was probably inspired by the V-19 Torrent, and everyone knows the Star Destroyers haven’t changed at all for probably thousands of years. There’s no reason why it couldn’t have just been refined and improved upon like every other starship in the universe has been. Hell a fan even came up with a concept for Resistance Y-Wings. Just shows you Fans put more thought into the Resistance than Rian Johnson and Lucasfilm.
Tumblr media
If we go with the assumption that they were outdated and ineffective, then there were far better replacements than some slow bombers made of paper. For example, B-Wings, which were supposed to be their replacement in Return of the Jedi and were brand new at the time, and K-Wings, which were a replacement for both of them in Legends, both would’ve been very viable options. A B-Wing was made during the Galactic Civil War for the sole purpose of destroying Imperial capital ships. It was updated before the events of Star Wars: The Force Awakens as it is revealed in the official Star Wars: The Last Jedi visual dictionary that B-wing Mark 2 cockpits were used on the Resistance transports that brought Leia’s camp to Crait. Seeing that they are fairly new and have received upgrades, the B-wings would have been a better choice for the heroes to use in taking on the First Order.

They also wouldn’t have broken the “small, fast, and maneuverable” tenet of the Rebel/Resistance design philosophy.
Anyway, the Resistance still didn’t need any specialized bomber. All the Resistance needed to do was replicate what they did to Starkiller Base in the last movie.
Tumblr media
The dreadnought’s “point-defense” turrets aren’t fast enough to target one X-Wing (lol, what a stupid movie), so there’s no reason why a squadron of X-Wings can’t just bombard the weak spot with enough proton torpedoes until the dreadnought gives up. It’d probably just take one or two, as well. Instead, we got a glass cannon sent to destroy another glass cannon, with no trace of escorting ships or other noticeable strategy beyond “FIRE EVERYTHING!!!”

The MG-100 StarFortress SF-17 also known as the B/SF-17 heavy bomber, or simply as the Resistance Bomber, was a type of heavy bomber manufactured by Slayn & Korpil for use by the New Republic during the late stages of the Galactic Civil War. Following the Galactic Concordance and New Republic disarmament, the ship was primarily used in civilian applications. Several ships were used by the Resistance during its war with the First Order around 34 ABY.

December 16, 2019 The road to Rise of Skywalker continues with Paige Tico, nicknamed Pae-Pae by her sister, was a human female who served as a gunner on a MG-100 StarFortress SF-17 in the Resistance during their conflict with the First Order. #art #artwork #artist #artistofinstagram #artistforhire #concept #custom #draw #drawing #drawingaday #Disney #DrawEveryday #design #illustration #pencil #sketch #ComicBook #LastJedi #MarvelComics #starwars #Lucasfilm #PaigeTico https://www.instagram.com/p/B6KOZAMhgAa/?igshid=d6okd51x3aj
