I do think one of the things that makes me like the Magi-Nation cartoon better than a lot of second world fantasy media is that after everything is said and done, Tony makes the choice to stay in the fantasy world full of monsters and magi with the friends he made instead of staying on Earth to live a normal human life.
And especially the fact that it's a *choice*. He's not stuck there in the Moonlands, he can go home at any point after everything. He wants to be in a world where he's a hero, saved the world, has a bunch of cool friends, has magic powers, and doesn't have to face the American? Canadian? school system.
Just there's so much second-world fiction where the protag has to go back to their original world or doesn't want to stay in the magical world even tho it's better than what they left. Or in the opposite direction with a lot of isekai stuff recently folks are just stuck in the magical world with no choice.
Shout out to the Magi-Nation cartoon. Props to you.

My favorite CCG of all time just got a new kickstarter after 20 years
Tumblr media
Magi-Nation was a mon-battling game that came out in the midst of the first Pokemon boom. And it was really good! The lore was approachable for kids but still varied and meaningful, it had a nice blend of humor and drama, and honestly feels like it predicted and preemptively skewered the modern Isekai genre's popularity.
It had a Game Boy Color game that was okay (if a little buggy), but the real good shit was the card game, Magi-Nation: Duel. The art was gorgeous and vibrant (especially as later sets came out), the flavor text and lore were full of gags and references that a kid may not get until years later, and it had a unique gameplay mechanic where your hit points, mana pool, and your creature's attack power/health were all the same resource.
The kickstarter just went live, and it's already funded. If you're interested in CCG design and have never checked out Magi-Nation Duel:, you should totally give it a look.

I have seen the 1st season of Magi-Nation. I saw it many years ago when I was little.
It is a good show for children teaching useful things and showing fights between magical creatures.
There is also a pegasus made of leaves with the voice of Optimus Prime
I also found out that there is a 2nd season, something I didn't know about, I'll have to watch it.

Hey everyone, i recorded another cover! I’m super excited for the ongoing Kickstarter for the unreleased expansion for Magi-Nation Duel (i was OBSESSED with MND when I was a kid), so i felt compelled to return to the soundtrack for the Magi-Nation GBC game. And as you might know, there are few things on this planet that i love as much as a good boss theme, so of course i decided to do the boss theme!
i kept the first loop synth-heavy to honor the GBC origins of the piece, then i switched to real strings (guitars, taishogoto) for the second loop. I bring back the synths for the end, though!
all instruments are played live by me, no automation.
instrument list: synth x2, bass guitar, taiko, lead guitar, rhythm guitar, alto taishogoto

Does anyone remember the show Magi-Nation? Because I do!
Tumblr media
It was one of my favorite shows growing up. It was one of those shows that kinda tricked you into learning, mostly random things.
Like a ven diagram! And how to build an igloo and why it's a good source of shelter!
Along with how to think about things creatively and out of the box. One of my favorite episodes involved Edyn learning magic from a trained master supposedly who made her do chores to help her think outside the box with her spells.
My favorite character was probably Strag and looking at his color palette is kinda obvious if you refer to my character and color post. He has both blue AND purple in his color scheme! I mean come on!
Tumblr media
He's also kinda blunt and silly so yeah!
It was a fun show that ended on a cliffhanger and never got a season 3, I wish it did.

Whales are just about the only animal you can put into a fantasy setting and never screw up.
Wailord, Whamon, Orothan, literally every flying whale in fiction, etc.

Hey Who Remembers This Show?
Magi-Nation
Tumblr media
I remember this show was the best thing saturday morning, it was up there with My Goldfish Is Evil I enjoyed it that much.
I hardly remember the girl, but the dude in the middle was almost as edgy as Shadow. Also dude on the right wears red, red is a nice colour.
The only things I can remember are they go underwater and there is a mermaid transformation, and there was some monster fighting. Might try watching it again sometime

Scar
(Sorry for mistakes )
There are days when Strag looks at his scars from many battles, or times when the Dream Creatures have dealt him some damage. That day was no exception. It was a beautiful sunny day, the water in the river was warm and pleasant. Strag had just finished his night patrol and decided to take a bath before going to sleep and rest. Underling Magi found a wonderful place, surrounded by trees. Taking off his boots and mittens, he left them near the root of a great oak tree. Taking off his shirt, the first thing he saw were his biggest scars, which gave him not only physical but also mental pain, these scars are like burns. But he didn't get them at Cald or anywhere else. He received these scars from a very dangerous type of fungus, which entered his body through spores and slowly killed him from the inside. Strag remembered how it hurt like today.
Tumblr media
Memory In the dead of night, among the forests of Naroom, guards were walking in one of the settlements, and lights were shining in several windows of the houses. Shadow Stalker was lying in bed with other Underneath magi who had also contracted the same fungus while saving their homes. Strag couldn't sleep, because of the pain, his lungs are burning, he can feel the fungus digging into his skin using it to grow bigger and bigger. His lungs could no longer exercise, the pain was getting worse and worse. Strag raised his still healthy hand and placed it on the head of his best friend and partner, Freep, who was sleeping with his face buried in the blanket, a relic around his neck that allowed him to stay here longer, and without expending energy. Underneathian patted his friend's head gently. Strag turned his head and saw several more beds where several of his acquaintances were sleeping, some of them fought side by side with him against Chur, some were his classmates in school, and some were just former fans of his. -If … I were a little stronger … - said the hunter quietly, after which he began to cough hard, it was worse than all the pain he once experienced. Coughing with fungus-infected lungs was the worst. When the coughing stopped, Strag looked at his hand, which had a spot of red blood with purple drops. - No… my goal is to survive until morning… Tony and Eden will come with medicine in the morning… I must survive.
Suddenly the window opened. Strag instantly looked there and saw a black silhouette in the moonlight. The teenager was about to press the crystal that would inform Strom of danger or help, the crystal was above his head, he had almost reached it when he was suddenly stopped by another hand, larger and yellow, but with native warmth. Strag turned his head and saw the features he was used to seeing since childhood, and the same scar on his face. - Stery? - I see, you look bad at all, little brother. Strag was happy to see native face, but then his eyes were filled with tears of pain and anger, because his older brother had been serving Agram for almost a year and was a Shadow Magi, but then why were his brother's eyes the same as they were before. Those brown eyes that he inherited from his father, and not the blood red they were? Is his brother becoming normal? Will he leave that evil? If not, Stery must fulfilled his task, because of which he had to swear with his family, to make his brother hate him, to make his mother shed tears, and to bring his father to silent anger, and to make his people hate him . He had to do it to be closer to Agram and his new plans. Stery looked at his brother with tears in his eyes, after which he put his hand on his chest. -You have to live for them now - Stery held his brother's mouth with one hand and the other on his chest. - I cast, a transmission spell.
At this moment, Strag felt a slight relief in terms of breathing, but it was at this moment that he lost consciousness, and already woke up in the morning when he heard shouts of joy from the yard. The teenager took a breath, it didn't hurt as much anymore, his chest hurt less, and he could breathe more freely. The young man took off his white shirt and looked at his chest, the infection became less, before going to sleep the purple infection covered almost all of his chest, and now only half of it. A transmission spell, special in that the caster can transfer another person's illness or injury to themselves. While Strag was pondering this information, several nurses came into the room and brought mugs on a tray with a substance that shone like gold and was warm, because steam was coming from it. After taking the medicine, the infection hardened, and after a few days it fell off, leaving damaged skin. End of memories Strag sat down on the ground with his back against the same oak tree. He tightly squeezed his hand over the scar on his chest. Salty drops of tears fell on the ground. -Why… why Stery… he's the Shadow magi… why did he save me, I'm his enemy now… - Strag quietly asked himself. His Moonsense gave him a signal that someone was approaching, the teenager wiped away his tears and grabbed one of his gloves, and when he saw who it was, he smiled.
-Hey, Strag, did you decide to go swimming without us? - shouted Tony loudly with a wide smile.
-That's for sure, but it's better to let Tony go into the water first, because of his stink all the fish will float belly up. - Eden joked about her style.
-HEY!!! It will not prevent you from bathing, otherwise the dirt on you will soon come to life. -What did you say?! While teenagers were swearing, a phrase sounded in Strag's head: "You have to live for them now." He understood what this phrase meant, and it healed the wounds in his heart that could not heal for a long time. Shadow Stalker laughed loudly and this caught the attention of his friends, now all three of them were laughing.
