Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam contains an extremely powerful glitch that allows any battle to be won instantly. To set this up, another glitch must be used to leave a Toad search minigame without completing it. Then, whenever the party enters a battle the next time after leaving the minigame, simply let all of them die, and select “Return to the title screen without saving” on the Game Over menu.

This will cause the battle where the party lost to be considered as having been won instead. Note how in the footage, Mario, Luigi and Paper Mario are lying on the ground before selecting that option, but the gameplay continues with Bowser exploding after selecting it, with the game continuing as though the player defeated him instead of losing. This can be used on all battles in the game, including bosses.

A good friend of mine sent this to me today, and I believe I have an explanation:

So the Mario RPGs often make reference to events in the platformers, meaning we can safely assume that the Marios in these two game types are the same guy. HOWEVER, this does not hold up when talking about the PAPER Mario games, due to the existence of Mario and Luigi: Paper Jam, which canonized Paper Mario as a separate being, along with Paper Bowser, the Paper Toads, etc. The important thing here is Mario. These two characters, being separate entities with their own lives and histories, can coexist as pure and sinful. Mario is a holy man, but the paper has sinned.

But that's not all.

Let's talk about HOW exactly Paper Mario dies. Late in the game's story, he, alongside evrcery other playable character, is ambushed and killed by a dark wizard. Dimentio, to be precise. Now, we know for a fact that Dimentio is the most objectively evil of all the villains in Super Paper Mario, so it is not a stretch to assume that he commands some form of hellish power. That being said, I would posit that the only reason why Paper Mario is sent to hell is due to his method of demise. He was killed by a hell wizard! Of course he'll have a hard time going to heaven! Not to even mention the fact that every other character goes to hell, too! Bowser, I get. But Peach? LUIGI??? Never.

The final nail in the coffin here is that, about halfway through the chapter, Mario and the gang actually do manage to get into heaven with little to no problem. How do they do this? Through the power of a Pure Heart. They are cleansed of the evil energy which Dimentio imbued them with, and are thus transported to the Overthere.

TL;DR Paper Mario and Regular Mario are different guys, and neither of them are sinners. Dimentio just hit Paper Mario with this:

Headcanon that Mario and Luigi actually enhance each other's inner powers and abilities when they fight together (see M&L series).

This is why Mario has partners in the Paper Mario series, and has to rely on power ups on his solo adventures (Super Mario Bros, Super Mario 64 etc).

Mario loves every partner he's had, but he does notice that the absence of Luigi gnaws at him...He can't seem to fully tap into his inner power unless his bro is there....

Top: in Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam, Roy is shown having a dismissive attitude towards books and learning.

Bottom: however, in Paper Mario: Color Splash, which released a year later, Roy is shown to have an appreciation for learning.

This can have two possible interpretations.

A) If one subscribes to the idea that characters in Paper Mario games are the same as the ones in non-Paper Mario games, merely depicted in a different art style, then this would imply that Roy underwent character development between the two games and has grown to see the value of knowledge.

B) Conversely, if one subscribes to the idea that characters in Paper Mario games are distinct “parallel universe” paper counterparts of the same characters seen in non-Paper Mario games, this is still notable as it would mean that Roy and Paper Roy have different personalities and outlooks on learning. As most paper versions of characters are very similar in personality to their non-paper counterparts, this would make Paper Roy special in this regard.
