Bipartisan Group of U.S. Senators Call for Reassessment of So-Called Havana Syndrome
On April 12 a bipartisan group of eight U.S. Senators sent a letter to President Biden calling for a “renewed assessment . . . to identify the cause behind directed energy attacks” . . . and “review of the March 2023 Intelligence Community Assessment (ICA) of AHHs.”[1] This letter said, “Most recently, some . . . England v Pakistan, Shaheen Afridi injury, video, Callum Ferguson, Mark Taylor
In a two-over period late in the T20 World Cup final, the hearts of Pakistan supporters sunk and the English loosened up for wild celebrations. Pakistan fans watched on gutted as the spearhead of the side’s attack, magnificent quick Shaheen Afridi, limped from the field. He’d returned to the MCG pastures after buckling a knee while taking a classy outfield catch, only to bowl one ball and call…

Here, have some fashion suggestions (brands and designers) if you need ideas or references for an art piece. These skew heavily to my own tastes, but hey. Gotta start somewhere!
Paolo Sebastian's "Once Upon a Dream" collection is a megafave, but all of his stuff is good for the whimsical pastels vibe. Also does bridal.
Egyptian revival: I would definitely look into Cucculelli Shaheen, specifically the Alucinato collection. This seems really specific but ngl I just really want to rec them. Also does bridal.
There are a lot of bridal designers out there, but there are two (well, one bridal, and one bridal-adjacent) that I love for large ballgowns: - Mak Tumang does a lot of structured hemlines and stiff skirts, brightly saturated colors with a very costume ballgown vibe, the sort of thing you'd see in a masquerade scene in a fantasy movie. Good for a red carpet, IMO. (Not primarily bridal) - Kiyoko Hata tends to have more pastels and slightly desaturated jewel tones, with much less of a structure in favor of petticoats to build the shape, more layering of sheer fabrics. Very swishy. (Primarily a bridal designer) - For more 'normal' bridal in a standard palette, I'd look into Kim Kassas, Berta, Galia Lahav, Madeline Gardner, Krikor Jabotian, Rita Vinieris, Sophie Couture, Jimmy Choo, Julie Vino Glam, Vera Wang, Hian Tjen, Essense of Australia, Hayley Paige, Randy Fenoli.
For tea dresses (like a past-the-knee petticoat dress you wear to a garden party where you pretend to be rich) and general semi-formal: - The Matoshi sisters tend to work a lot with mesh and embroidery. Their floral elements tend to be very Secret Garden. They have some vintage inspiration in their bodices sometimes, but overall their boned bodice dresses are just really cool overall. - Chotronette have a similar style, but where the Matoshi tend to have a single heavier layer at the top with designs, Chotronette's are much more light-and-layered, and while they do have some floral, they use more celestial themes. They have a few designs that dip a bit into armor-inspired looks without going full fantasy costume. - IMO the best way to talk about the two in contrast is that the Matoshi sisters feel more solid and vintage-inspired, while Chotronette are more ethereal and fantasy-inspired.
Mark Bumgarner: For big structured skirts that straddle the line between tea dress and gown, but IMO he's a bit hit or miss. Good floral embroidery, though.
Red carpet and evening wear: There are a handful of designers that are just. Insanely good imo, and those are Zuhair Murad, Ziad Nakad, and Elie Saab. All three are really big names, and I wasn't sure until I checked but all are Lebanese, so I guess Lebanon just has a really good fashion industry. I believe most of them (definitely at least Saab and Murad) do bridal as well.
Girl's casual fashion: "All Pretty Girls" boutique
Professional wear: Poem Bangkok do some Ridiculously cool office wear ombre stuff, and the lines on their stuff are SO clean.
Chinese fusion: Heaven Gaia is also one of those brands that does a lot of work with ombre, but they lean into their roots a bit more than Poem. They have some massively cool work with embroidery, mandarin collars, capes, and so on.
Witchy looks: - Linda Friesen has some major vibes with 3D printed elements around the shoulders; good for fantasy costume territory. - Wulgaria Evil: If you want something a bit more high school/college goth.
Royal Black Corsetry for, well, corsets; the head of the company specializes in custom tailoring.
If you're looking to get into fashion for references, I would also follow blogs like @wedding-affair, @fashion-runways, @lacetulle, and @evermore-fashion.
For a more vintage reference set, @sartorialadventure is a good starting point, as is @lookingbackatfashionhistory.
If you're into lolita fashion, I'd rec @lolita-wardrobe

Afghanistan's Taliban rulers on Tuesday celebrated the second anniversary of their return to power.
The group took over the Afghan capital Kabul on August 15, 2021. The US-backed government collapsed and much of its leadership, including former President Ashraf Ghani, went into exile.
So far, no country has recognized the Taliban's government in Afghanistan.
Taliban mark 'Independence Day'
Taliban authorities held official events across the country, celebrating what they called "Afghanistan's Independence day from the US occupation."
US-led forces overthrew the Taliban-led Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan in 2001 and withdrew 20 years later.
"On the second anniversary of the conquest of Kabul, we would like to congratulate the mujahid (holy warrior) nation of Afghanistan and ask them to thank Almighty Allah for this great victory," Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said.
"The conquest of Kabul proved once again that no one can control the proud nation of Afghanistan and guarantee their stay in this country," the Taliban government said in a statement.
Taliban spokesperson to DW: 'How can we be against women?'
Taliban spokesperson Suhail Shaheen denied that the de facto rulers of Afghanistan were anti-woman in comments to DW News Asia.
"How can we be against women?" he said. "They are our mothers, wives, daughters, sisters."
Taliban authorities have imposed a number of restrictions on women, including enforcing a strict dress code in public, barring them from gyms and parks, and keeping women out of secondary and tertiary education.
Shaheen insisted that the Taliban have not denied women the right to education.
He said that the Taliban would reopen schools and universities to girls and women, but did not provide a timeline for this. "There is a committee set up to create an Islamic environment for that," he said.
Shaheen argued that the Islamist group is supporting women's progress by allowing them to study nursing and specialize as doctors.
Afghanistan's Taliban rulers have allowed for the continued existence female medical professionals so that women do not have to be treated by male staff.
The UN has accused the Taliban of practicing gender apartheid. On Tuesday, UN Deputy Secretary-General Amina Mohammed, said that Taliban rule has "upturned" the lives of Afghan women.
"It's been two years since the Taliban took over in Afghanistan. Two years that upturned the lives of Afghan women and girls, their rights and futures," she said in a statement.
German NGO: Humanitarian situation 'dramatic'
Despite a decrease in fighting, Afghanistan has been grappling with a major humanitarian crisis since the withdrawal of US-led forces and a number of international aid organizations.
The Asia Regional Director of the German humanitarian NGO Welthungerhilfe, Elke Gottschalk, has described the situation in Afghanistan as "dramatic."
She said that 17 million people in the country are threatened by hunger and 29 million people are dependent on humanitarian aid. "You can see this on every street corner," she said in remarks to German public broadcaster ARD.
Afghanistan has a total population of around 42 million.
The country's Taliban rulers imposed a ban on women working in NGOs in 2022, which Gottschalk said brought about additional complications.
She said that while 20% of Welthungerhilfe employees are women, each of these positions had to be negotiated separately and approved by the Taliban.
The head of the Kabul office of Caritas International, Stefan Recker, told Deutschlandfunk radio that two women were still working for the organization but were not allowed to work in the office.
Recker said that the situation in the country was desperate and many people wanted to flee. However, he said he was hopeful because of the improved security situation and the decrease in street crime.

SS24 Trends
Green
Louis Vuitton
Tumblr media
Louis Vuitton describes this collection as "Reflecting the progression from nautical to botanical, the silhouettes are adorned with silks and sequined embroidery, emulating scales and the movement of water. On dry land, prints flourish and lines become sculptural, while bags mark a post-modern tale, enveloped in the new Monogram Dune or in colorful variations of Épi leather". Although this collection does not consist of a large number of fully green outfits in the link shown below we see pops of the colour featured throughout.

Cucculelli Shaheen
Tumblr media
The fashion brand Cucculelli Shaheen is said to have "Drew inspiration from the original “American Venus” who modeled for the iconic statue gracing the building’s pinnacle, the collection immerses itself in the interplay between the delicate aesthetics of the Beaux-Arts era and the dynamic pulse of the modern city. This season, the brand brings unexpected fusion where vintage allure met contemporary edge." As shown by the collection below a total of 8 looks featured the green colour palette.

Frederick Anderson
Tumblr media
The collection is said to be "Visually split into three groups, the first leading with pastel hues of green and pink, offering the traditional daytime spring pieces the ready-to-wear couturier has become known for. Chartreuse hand-crochet tops and dresses are interspersed in this first phase of the show, offering a bold pop of color that nods at one of Anderson’s signature forms. At past shows, Anderson has graciously noted the popularity his work has garnered among classically dressed Upper East Siders drawn to his progressive take on traditional silhouettes. The SS24 collection follows that same balance, referencing a classic style while still remaining true to his dynamic design ethos." This shows the collection featured a number of green pieces further showing green was a present trend in ss24.

Asia Cup 2023: Pakistan's Triumphs and India's Concerns - A Preview of the High-Stakes Clash
Tumblr media
The upcoming clash between Pakistan and India in the Asia Cup 2023 on September 2nd has generated a wave of anticipation and tension. Pakistan's recent significant victory has added an extra layer of complexity to this highly awaited encounter. In a match preceding this clash, Pakistan secured a resounding win against Nepal, setting a strong precedent. As the rivalry heats up, India's apprehensions seem to be growing due to Pakistan's recent surge in form.
Tumblr media
**Dominating Performance Against Nepal:**
Pakistan demonstrated its prowess in the first match of the Asia Cup 2023 by defeating Nepal by a margin of 238 runs. This victory not only showcased Pakistan's batting might but also highlighted its remarkable prowess in bowling. Pakistan's comprehensive triumph against Nepal has raised eyebrows in the cricketing world, particularly in India.
**Babar Azam's Stellar Form:**
Captain Babar Azam led from the front with an exceptional century. His well-calculated innings of 110 runs in 110 balls laid a strong foundation for Pakistan. Babar's remarkable strike rate and subsequent half-century in just 20 balls reflected his exceptional form and adaptability. Babar's innings, powered by four sixes, contributed significantly to Pakistan's total score of 151 runs.

**Emerging Threat for India:**
Babar Azam's excellent form could pose a serious challenge for India. Additionally, Iftikhar Ahmed's impressive 109 runs off 71 balls marked his maiden century in One Day Internationals. Ahmed's performance has the potential to address Pakistan's middle-order concerns, showcasing his versatility in various cricketing departments.
**Bowling Brilliance and Spin Mastery:**
Pakistan's bowlers continued their splendid form in the match against Nepal. Shaheen Afridi's early breakthrough with two wickets in the first over set the tone. Naseem Shah, in his first over, took a crucial wicket, and Haris Rauf's stellar mid-over performance secured him two wickets as well. Pakistan's spinners, especially Shadab Khan, displayed their mettle, taking four wickets for 27 runs in 6.4 overs. Nawaz's contribution with one wicket in his two overs further bolstered Pakistan's bowling prowess.
**The Ominous Message for India:**
Pakistan's resounding victory against Nepal sends a strong message to India. This victory not only puts Pakistan in good stead but also serves as a warning to India. If Pakistan maintains this level of performance, the upcoming clash against India could be a closely contested battle, promising a thrilling encounter between the two cricketing giants.
**Emergence of Pakistan's All-Rounders:**
Pakistan's recent victory against Nepal was also a showcase of its all-round strength. Iftikhar Ahmed's century and his vital role in the middle order have undoubtedly eased the worries of Pakistan's team management. His ability to contribute both with the bat and the ball adds depth to Pakistan's lineup. Additionally, his century might just be the boost Pakistan needed to address their middle-order concerns, a facet that had been under scrutiny in recent times.
**Impressive Bowling Ensemble:**
The Pakistani bowling attack once again proved its mettle. Shaheen Afridi's knack for early breakthroughs and his fierce pace provide a promising start to the team. Naseem Shah's ability to extract wickets early in his spells showcased his potential to unsettle the opposition's top order. Haris Rauf's consistent performance and his knack for picking up crucial wickets during the middle overs adds a valuable dimension to Pakistan's bowling attack.
**Spin Wizardry and Indian Batting Challenges:**
The Asia Cup also witnessed Pakistan's spinners weaving their magic. Shadab Khan's ability to bamboozle batsmen and create pressure in the middle overs cannot be overlooked. His economy rate and wicket-taking ability are bound to pose a challenge for the Indian batting lineup. As Indian batsmen have struggled against quality spin in the past, Pakistan's spin attack might just be the X-factor that could make the difference in the high-stakes match.
**Setting the Stage for India vs. Pakistan Clash:**
With this convincing victory, Pakistan has set the stage for an intense showdown against India. The match between these arch-rivals on September 2nd promises to be a battle of nerves and skills. Pakistan's recent successes have boosted their confidence and put India on high alert. As both teams gear up for this monumental clash, the cricketing world braces for an epic showdown that could shape the course of the Asia Cup and set the tone for the future matches between these two cricketing giants.
**Conclusion: A Tale of Anticipation and Rivalry:**
The Asia Cup 2023 has already presented us with intriguing narratives and performances that have left cricket enthusiasts at the edge of their seats. Pakistan's triumphant march and their well-rounded approach have not only added excitement to the tournament but have also raised the stakes for the forthcoming clash with India. As the cricketing world holds its breath, we can only wait to witness whether Pakistan's recent surge will continue, or if India will rise to the challenge and reclaim their dominance on the field. The Asia Cup stage is set, and the cricketing drama is about to unfold!

Behind the Playlist - Transformers: Prime Edition (Part 8 of 22: Dreadwing)
Link to the other posts in my Behind the Playlist series
✧ ✧ ✧
I present to you the second playlist I organized in “story order.” I believe an honorable warrior like Dreadwing deserves to have his story told in this way.
Intended overarching themes and/or qualities: Honor, Betrayal, Vengeance Denied
My personal favorite(s) from this playlist: Endless Bonds and Broken Promises, Crystal, Whose Side Are You On, and Lament From The Grave
✧ ✧ ✧
Full song list and explanations under the cut:
Dreadwing by Brian Tyler
Self-explanatory name.
Soldier by Fleurie, Tommee Profitt
First and foremost, Dreadwing saw himself as a solider whose sole purpose was to serve Megatron faithfully.
Endless Bonds and Broken Promises by Krale
This instrumental piece encapsulates the grief Dreadwing may have dealt with after he felt Skyquake’s spark disconnect from his and the resulting determination to confirm what he’d sensed.
This Is a Call by Les Friction
Even though Starscream certainly wasn’t Dreadwing’s favorite for the part he played in his brother’s demise, Dreadwing primarily blamed the Autobots and thought of Skyquake’s death as a call to action.
Crystal by J.T. Peterson
To me, this one is representative of the doubts that began to set in about Megatron and what the Decepticon cause had become under his leadership. Dreadwing began to see how far the faction had drifted from its original vision, especially when Megatron welcomed a “desecrator” like Starscream back into his ranks. Things became crystal clear; Dreadwing came to his senses quickly and was no longer blinded by loyalty or duty.
Lay Your Weapons Down by UNSECRET, Sam Tinnesz
“We're losing all the reasons for our hate / Have we gone too far to find escape? / Lay your weapons down
Lay your weapons down / Lay your weapons down / Don't need to do this / Can't make it through this / Lay your weapons down / We can't fight anymore”
Again, Dreadwing realized how far the Decepticons had strayed from their original course. In his mind, they’d lost any real reason for their hate and were “chasing vapors.” When he willingly betrayed the Decepticons by returning the Forge of Solus Prime, Optimus attempted to appeal to him. Dreadwing chose instead to go his own way and wash his hands of either side before seeking revenge for his brother’s disgrace.
Avenge by Michael Vignola
This song matches the tension in the medbay when Dreadwing was determined to end Starscream’s life.
Whose Side Are You On by Tommee Profitt, Ruelle
“Betrayal burns and there's no hiding / It cuts deeper than a razor blade
There's a war in my head and I don't understand / How we ended up here / There's a tear in my heart where your lies left a mark / And now nothing is clear
Whose side are you on?”
When Dreadwing realized he’d been shot through the spark by Megatron, the shock on his face said it all. I like to imagine that he looked down sadly at the gaping hole in his chest and whispered to Megatron, “Whose side are you on?” as he was leaving to rejoin the Allspark.
Casualty by Hidden Citizens, Tash
“Call me a casualty / The cost of catastrophe / The damage, damage, damage is done / Call me, call me another one”
Lament From The Grave by Tommee Profitt, Stanaj
The Albanian language paired with the background instrumentation is hauntingly beautiful. Also, the name of the song is perfect.
Bury Me Here by Shaheen Fahmy, Epic Music World
I wouldn’t be surprised if Megatron ordered that Dreadwing’s body be dumped in some remote place on earth. There was bound to be at least one ‘Con left who remembered the exact location after the war, and I headcanon that Optimus made sure Dreadwing received a proper Cybertronian burial. Optimus is the sort of bot who would do that as a way of honoring a former enemy he respected.

Welcome to Indianapolis, where Arab American history is 'hidden in plain sight'
Tumblr media
There's a plaque outside of Lucas Oil Stadium that has nothing to do with football. "If you look at Lucas Oil Stadium, you have no idea that there used to be a vibrant, Arabic-speaking community here," Dr. Edward E. Curtis IV told WRTV.
Willard Street once ran through what is now known as the home of the Indianapolis Colts. From 1890 to 1920, Willard Street was packed with people who immigrated to the United States from the eastern Mediterranean, now known as Syria and Lebanon.
"People would sit outside on their stoops, especially on Sundays, where they'd share food…and sing their songs. And they lived as a multiracial neighborhood of Black, white, and brown people. We just don't know that," Dr. Curtis said.
After World War I, Arab Americans were given access to more housing in Indianapolis. As a result, according to Dr. Curtis, Arabs spread out from the east to the west side in search of more land to put their grocery stores, which was a significant part of Arab culture.
Curtis, the Chair of Liberal Arts and a professor of Religious Studies at IUPUI, has made it his life's work to bring the history of Arab Americans out of the shadows. More pointedly, Arab Americans of the Midwest.
"I grew up in rural southern Illinois. My grandmother — was like my second mother — brought me up to have pride in my Arab heritage," Dr. Curtis explained. "I just had no idea when I moved to Indianapolis several years ago that there was such a rich history here."
When the professor began to look for the presence of his ancestors in their migration to the U.S., he found not only the heartbeat of the Indianapolis Arabic community but several landmarks associated with Indiana history also marked the history of Arab Hoosiers.
youtube
As Shakkira Harris explains, what Curtis found in his research was so profound that he created a map, "The Arab Indianapolis Heritage Trail."
"The first Arab American statewide officeholder was a woman in the 1960s (Helen Corey). Nobody knows about her, but she should be a household name in Indiana," Curtis noted. "Arab Americans served in the military in World War I and after, and they are memorialized in the War Memorial.
One of the most prominent stores on Monument Circle (Shaheen Oriental Rugs) is today the entrance to Hilbert Circle Theatre, where the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra plays, and that is from the 1920s part of our Indiana past and our Arab past."
The Arab Indianapolis Heritage Trail is just one of several efforts Curtis has made to bring the contributions of Arab Americans to the city and state's culture and economic growth to light. In his 13th book, "Arab Indianapolis," Dr. Curtis documents Arab Hoosier history. It's a history that he says is "hidden in plain sight."
In addition to photographs and history, Arab Indianapolis also has interviews, vignettes, and recipes. He says that he recognizes that Arab Americans are a relatively small percentage of the country's population, but he doesn't want his history to be "something set aside. It's a part of" America's history."

The highly anticipated fourth T20 clash between Pakistan and New Zealand (PAK vs NZ) is marking its presence on April 25th 2024 in the city of Lahore with the series standings tied at 11. Following two riveting contests in Rawalpindi this upcoming fixture holds the promise of being a thrilling affair under the influence of multiple critical determinants.
Pakistan's Opener-Heavy Batting Strategy
Pakistans batting success revolves around the performance of openers Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan renowned for their consistent establishment of strong partnerships. A key factor lies in their skills to handle the initial swing phase crucial for setting up a competitive team score.
The Bowling Depth of New Zealand
Despite the absence of key players in the IPL the bowling strength of New Zealand stands out. Spinners Mitchell Santner and Ish Sodhi together with pacers Lockie Ferguson and Adam Milne are well placed to capitalize on the late turning conditions of the Lahore pitch.
The bowling attack of Pakistan
Pakistan's bowling prowess spearheaded by the fiery Shaheen Afridi and Haris Rauf is all geared up to give New Zealand's top batting lineup a solid challenge. How they excel at delivering slower balls during the crucial death overs and the crafty left arm spin of Mohammad Nawaz could play a defining role in breaking key partnerships.
New Zealand's Striking Ability
New Zealand boasts a formidable batting lineup anchored by seasoned campaigners such as Martin Guptill Kane Williamson and Glenn Phillips. The teams prowess in efficiently rotating the strike and capitalizing on loose deliveries will play a pivotal role in their pursuit of challenging substantial targets.
Home Advantage of Pakistan

Prediction
It's hard to call this contest. With their respective advantages and disadvantages, the two teams are evenly matched. Here are two scenarios that could occur:
Scenario 1: India Triumphs
Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan orchestrated a remarkable opening partnership showcasing their synergy and cricketing prowess. Shaheen Afridi and Haris Rauf unleashed havoc on New Zealands top order establishing early dominance for Pakistan. Mohammad Nawazs spin expertise in the pivotal middle overs played a pivotal role in steering Pakistan towards a triumphant victory.
Scenario 2: New Zealand Wins
Following a promising start by Pakistan's opening batsmen their middle order encountered difficulties restricting them to a modest total. In reply New Zealand's opening pair comprised of Martin Guptill and Kane Williamson established a strong platform.
The late innings contribution of Glenn Phillips injected excitement driving New Zealand to a thrilling victory by a narrow margin securing a 21 advantage in the series.
Who is going to prevail?
The team that handles pressure expertly and minimizes errors is positioned for success in this riveting edge of your seat clash to be decided solely by the final delivery.

Seton Hall: 2024 National Invitation Tournament Champions
Tumblr media
INDIANAPOLIS – It was a title game that lived up to its billing, a showcase of two NCAA Tournament snubs that proved they belonged, waged before a relentlessly raucous crowd at historic Hinkle Fieldhouse.
You could not have asked for a more compelling National Invitation Tournament final, and in the end, Seton Hall basketball dug deep and rallied late for a 79-77 triumph over Indiana State Thursday. It was a moment of redemption no one saw coming three weeks ago, amid the despair of a Selection Sunday gone wrong, and the winning play was delivered by a hometown kid in a Hoosiers-style twist fit for Hollywood.
Senior wing Dre Davis, an Indianapolis native, hit the go-ahead layup with 16 seconds left, slicing and spinning past three defenders to do it. The Pirates finished the game on a 9-0 run over the final 2:38, stunning the baby-blue clad Sycamores fans into silence as 300 or so Hall supporters erupted in joy.
"I feel like we did something special here," Davis said. "Obviously we wanted to win a championship, and at the end of the day that's what we did. "
Seton Hall’s quest for its first NIT crown since 1953 succeeded despite a crowd of 9,100 that was 95 percent pro-Sycamores. The Pirates finish a memorable season with a 25-12 record, the foundation having been laid in year two of Shaheen Holloway’s regime. It’s just the seventh time the program has won 25-plus games in its 120-year history.
"The naysayers, we left them with something to remember," senior guard Kadary Richmond said. "And the people at Seton Hall, I feel like we left our mark there, too."
Indiana State’s breakthrough campaign ends at 32-7. The Sycamores, like the Pirates, put on a show for much of the tournament, raising the event's profile and garnering national buzz. Thursday's thrilling finale was an exclamation point on one of the most memorable Hall seasons ever.
"Three Sundays ago, if you guys seen the look on these guys' faces when we didn't make the (NCAA) tournament, and as their leader, not knowing what to say to them, it was the worst feeling in the world," Holloway said. "From that, to going to this, getting drenched by those guys (in the postgame locker room celebration), it's the best feeling in the world."
Here is how the wild, unforgettable finish unfolded.
With Indiana State leading 77-70, Richmond put back his own miss for a layup at the 2:38 mark.
After errant 3-pointers on both ends, Al-Amir Dawes got fouled going to the basket and sank two free throws to make it 77-74 with 1:27 left.
Indiana State’s Robbie Avila missed a 3-pointer, and Dawes drilled a step-back triple from straightaway to knot things up at 77-77 with 1:05 remaining.
"This group, you know, they haven't wavered," Holloway said of his team's late-game mettle. "We got in a huddle. There was no panicking. It was, all right, all right, let's do what we do. Get a score, get a stop."
After two Indiana State misses, Richmond tried to drive, got cut off, and handed the ball to Davis, who spun through three defenders for the go-ahead layup. Richmond had screened for him, opening just enough daylight.
'It was just a broken play," Davis said. "Kooks created an angle for me to get downhill and just put me in position to be able to get a good look at the rim…I am blessed, man, pleased beyond measure to be able to do this at the home crib. Happy for my guys. Proud of my team to fight tooth-and-nail to the very end."
In a bonkers final sequence, Indiana State's game-winning 3-point attempt got blocked by Hall center Jaden Bediako, who closed out masterfully.
“That's a really good basketball team,” Indiana State coach Josh Schertz said. “They showed a lot of heart and fight and made a lot of plays there down the stretch to win the game. So credit to them. Very deserving champions.”
FIVE TAKEWAYS
Big three left their mark In their curtain call a trio, and possibly each of their final games in a Seton Hall uniform, Richmond, Davis and Al-Amir Dawes etched their names into Pirate lore.
Dawes was named the NIT's Most Outstanding Player after averaging 21 points per game for the tournament. He tallied 24 points and four steals in the final, making all nine of his free-throw attempts. He also was one of the most vocal Pirates about wanting to play in the NIT, a decision that was made by the five starters, and he carried the team past Saint Joseph's in that sluggish opening-round squeaker.
"We stuck to who we were," Dawes said. "We stuck to who we do. We ended up here."
Davis tallied 18 points and 3 blocks in the final, playing all 40 minutes. He wound up going 4-0 as a Pirate at Hinkle Fieldhouse.
"Indy was great for me," he said. "To be able to come home and win two big games, compete for a national championship which is our goal and ultimately win, it was a great week."
Richmond chalked up 21 points, 13 boards and 5 assists. Asked about leaving a legacy, he replied with a slam dunk.
"We opened the doors for the underdog players that's being recruited by Seton Hall, and don't feel as if anybody else is giving them a chance," he said. "This is a great place to come, and be able to play a game and be who you are."
Collectively, the big three took a program in transition after Kevin Willard’s departure and helped Holloway affix his stamp on it. They authored a bunch of memorable moments, shared the game, and represented the school well. Their performance this season was a monument to the value of continuity – one that is in increasingly short supply across the sport.
The postgame scene There were poignant moments galore after the final horn. For starters, Holloway walked over to a devastated Avila (13 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists, but some crucial misses late) and literally picked Avila's chin up to offer some words of encouragement.
Holloway can be rough around the edges at times, but this gesture was a window into his character.
"I told him, there's no need to have your head down," he said. "You guys played a heck of a game. You guys got a great team. You guys battled. This was a championship game. A bunch of punches going back and forth, and just told him to pick his head up. He's a great player and he's got a lot of basketball to be played."
Then, as the Pirates began cutting down the net, they were encircled by their fans who broke into a chant of "Let's go Jersey!"
Dawes was first to climb the latter and snip a piece off. When it was Richmond's turn, the fans serenaded him with a chant of "one more year!" He smiled broadly and nodded his head in response.
"I appreciate them for coming; my focus tonight was winning a championship with guys in the locker room who have been here since June and fighting day-in and day-out," he said when asked about the chant and the scene. "So we appreciate them for traveling. Some flew. Some were telling me the amount of miles they drove, and we highly appreciate it."
As his players cut the net, Holloway worked the crowd, thanking Pirate fans for coming. He air-conducted the pep band's rendition of Seton Hall's fight song. Then he snipped the net's final piece off and held it aloft.
This marked the third time he's done that. Willard gave him the honor of cutting the last piece after the 2016 Big East Tournament title, and he also cut the net down after Saint Peter's won the 2022 MAAC Tournament, which was the victory that assured he would get the vacant job at his alma mater.
Afterward, upon returning to the team hotel where fans had congregated, the players gave walk-on David Gabriel the honor of carrying in the NIT trophy.
"Proud of everybody who stepped on the court and everybody who was ready," Holloway said. "Because I don't forget the walk-ons and the guys who don't play. They prepare the guys on the court for games like this."
A worthy title-game venue
It’s not Madison Square Garden, which hosted the NIT semis and final for decades, but Hinkle is an outstanding replacement. At a cozy 9,100-seats, with a balcony that surrounds the court and provides an intimate old-world setting, outstanding acoustics and dripping with history (as everybody knows, the ultimate scene of “Hoosiers” was filmed there), this was a quality host.
Indiana State fans brought the juice, creating a championship-level atmosphere. Anyone who thinks the NIT has no meaning or value should have witnessed the vibe in that building. To their credit, the Pirates used the hostility as fuel.
"I think we can just credit the league, the Big East for that," Davis said. "I feel like our league really prepared us for this moment."
It's a shame Fox is launching an alternate consolation tournament for high-majors next season, to be played fully in Las Vegas, because the charms of the NIT in venues like Walsh Gym and Hinkle were evident these past few weeks.
The NIT is not the Big Dance as we all know, but this run was proof that it still matters.
A trip for the die-hards
Among Pirate supporters on hand was Kevin Regan, the son of Hall legend Richie Regan – who was point guard on the 1953 NIT championship squad. Kevin was wearing the gold watch his father got for winning that tournament. It was willed to him when Richie died in 2002.
“It’s been a great run, and it brings back fantastic memories,” said Kevin Regan, a Brielle resident who came to Indianapolis with his daughter Erinne and sisters Kate and Marybeth. “Now everyone knows how important it was in 1953 – because 70 years later they’re bringing it up. I’ve gotten text about it from people I haven’t talked to in years.”
What would Richie think of this team and its season?
“He’d be happy as he could be because they’re playing well and they represent the school so well,” Kevin said, adding that he’d be particularly proud of Holloway’s leadership. “To see him come up the ranks at Seton Hall and do so well, he would love that.”
Also on hand were former Hall star and NBA coach Adrian Griffin, 1989 Final Four team member Pookey Wigington, and core members of Seton Hall’s student section who drove 700 miles for the occasion.
Into the offseason There was a tangible benefit to Seton Hall’s NIT run. Mike McBride, Deputy Athletics Director for Revenue Generation, NIL & Strategic Initiatives, said the alumni-driven collective Onward Setonia has experienced a clear uptick in support these last three weeks.
“The best part about the run we’ve had this postseason, all the guys who’ve supported us all year long have stepped up and supported us even more because they can see the benefits,” McBride said. “Those that haven’t supported us, who have been negative about what we’re doing with NIL, this has opened their eyes and they’ve become supportive. So it’s really brought the entire Seton Hall community together and they understand the more support they provide, the more we can do with the team. So it’s been really good for everyone.”
While exact numbers are elusive, it’s believed Seton Hall’s NIL war chest is roughly double what it was last year at this time. Keep that in mind as transfer-portal season begins. As with just about every team across the sport’s landscape, the Pirates will experience plenty of movement.
Here’s a quick rundown:
Postgrads Dawes and Bediako are out of eligibility.
Richmond and Davis are candidates to enter the transfer portal and also explore pro-ball opportunities. Richmond, who could command a hefty NIL payday and is also a candidate for a two-way NBA contract, has options galore.
There is a fair chance senior guard Dylan Addae-Wusu will be back for a postgrad season.
Retaining freshman wing Isaiah Coleman, a Big East All-Freshman honoree, will be a high priority. It’s a good sign that Coleman made the trip to Indianapolis to be with his teammates for the title game even though he couldn’t play after spending the past week bedridden with bronchitis.
Backup center Elijah Hutchins-Everett, who hails from Orange, also figures to have a role on next year’s squad. The fate of the rest of the bench is to be determined.
If the Hall can retain Addae-Wusu and Coleman and one of Richmond or Davis, that will be a strong nucleus for next season.
One thing is certain: As players make decisions about their futures, the good vibes produced by this NIT run certainly don't hurt.
And at the very least, no matter what happens, they'll receive a hero's welcome in South Orange for many years to come.
