What Really Counts
Tumblr media
by Aiden Wilson Tozer
The crowds that went ahead of him and those that followed shouted, 'Hosanna to the Son of David!' 'Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!' 'Hosanna in the highest!' — Matthew 21:9
The excellence of a man lies in the perfection of his human nature. God made him with powers no other being possesses and gave him a physical body through which to express these powers fruitfully. An automobile has another and a different excellence; it can add nothing to the glory of the man. Our Lord, riding into Jerusalem on the back of a humble beast, lost nothing of the majesty that was His as the world's most perfect man; conversely, a little, selfish, frightened man gains no dignity from the expensive and shiny steel monster in which he rides. That he feels greater only accents his feebleness; that he acts as if he were greater only reveals more clearly the basic error in his total life philosophy. He accepts as real the illusion that he is more powerful, when in fact the power lies outside of him. His imagined excellence is the excellence of a piece of machinery, something he must share with the little dog that sits beside him with his head out the window. The whole point is that human excellence consists in the perfection of human nature. Things cannot enter men to make them better or more worthy. "A man can receive nothing, except it be given him from heaven." Only the God who made man's nature in the first place can remake it after the divine image.

“He Is Risen Indeed!”
“Anyone who's heard the Gospel of Jesus Christ knows that He died on the cross for our sins. But did you know that shortly before his death, Jesus himself prophesied that he would rise again on the third day?
Jesus strictly warned them not to tell this to anyone,
“And He strictly warned and commanded them to tell this to no one, saying, “The Son of Man must suffer many things, and be rejected by the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised the third day.” —Luke 9:21-22
I still wonder why the disciples forgot that Jesus had said this. If they had remembered it, then maybe they wouldn't have been hiding behind a locked door for days after Christ was crucified. Maybe they wouldn't have been fearing for their lives. Maybe they had forgotten because they were so traumatized that the man they had followed for three years and had given up everything for was so brutally killed and now seemed to be gone from them forever. Whatever the case may have been, they must have been devastated.
Maybe they hadn't heard the conversation that Jesus had with the Pharisees and teachers, just before his death.
“Then some of the scribes and Pharisees answered, saying, “Teacher, we want to see a sign from You.” But He answered and said to them, “An evil and adulterous generation seeks after a sign, and no sign will be given to it except the sign of the prophet Jonah. For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of the great fish, so will the Son of Man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.” —Matthew 12:38-40
We know that Mary Magdalene and the other Mary remembered Jesus' words because when the two women went to the tomb on the third day after Jesus was crucified, they discovered that the tomb was empty and two angels who were there said to them:
“He is not here, but is risen! Remember how He spoke to you when He was still in Galilee, saying, ‘The Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again.’ And they remembered His words.” —Luke 24:6-8
Jesus knew that He would rise again on the third day because He is who He claimed to be: the Son of God. How would Jesus know unless He truly is the Messiah? Christ's resurrection conclusively demonstrates His power over the grave and proves He is the Son of God. Because of this, we can know that we can have eternal life. Because Jesus was raised from the dead, we know that God can also raise us from the grave.”

In the Bible Mary rides on the back of a donkey while Joseph walks beside her, leading the donkey in search of a place for Mary to give birth to Jesus.
Although the scriptures don't specifically mention that she is riding on a donkey, we know that Joseph and Mary were very poor, so they would not have owned a horse.
When horses are mentioned in the Bible, they are usually mentioned with kings and war, while donkeys are associated with ordinary people.
A leader rode on a horse if he was coming for war, and he rode a donkey to signify he was coming in peace.
Here's something interesting about donkeys you may not know.
Almost all donkeys have a naturally occurring dark cross on their backs. It runs down their spines and across their shoulders.
According to the Australian Donkey Society, If you shaved their fur, you would find the cross on their skin.
In Matthew 21:1-11, when Jesus rode a donkey to enter Jerusalem, He was fulfilling what had been prophesied in Zechariah 9:9, "Rejoice greatly, Daughter Zion! Shout, Daughter Jerusalem!
See, your King comes to you, righteous and victorious, lowly and riding on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey".
Life was not easy for Jews living under Roman rule in the 1st century—especially if you were poor.
But Jesus embraced the poor, the sick, and the outcasts while here on earth.
Even though He was fulfilling prophecy by riding a donkey and not a horse, this was also God’s way of saying that Jesus came as a King to save His people and bring peace to those who believe in Him.
God is always in the details. I don't think it's any coincidence that Jesus entered his first week of life riding in His mother's womb on a donkey and then again the last week of His life fulfilling prophecy by riding a donkey.
It is amazing to consider that the donkey is the only animal to have a cross on its back.
Jesus entered this world humbly and left this earth the same way, but He will not be riding a donkey when He returns.
He will be coming in all of His glory and splendor!

"This Life" / "The Way"
“This Life” / “The Way”
When I was in college there was a cult pouring its poison into unsuspecting students who didn’t know their Bible. Truth is there were dozens of these cults stalking the spiritual lives of young impressionable students. The one that I am thinking of called itself  “THE  WAY”. They used biblical words, talked a lot about “Jesus” and offered a weekend class called “Power for Abundant Living” for…

Saturday Before Good Friday: Ten Days That Changed the World
Yesterday, we began a day-by-day look at the Passion Week, so our “week” is actually ten days, starting BEFORE Palm Sunday… Here are some observations about the Saturday before Good Friday, which would have been eight days before Easter. It is a quiet Saturday, a sabbath, so there is no mention of any activity until we read John’s account  of Supper at Bethany. Eyewitness Account (John’s Gospel…

God's weapon against the flesh
God’s weapon against the flesh
Every day I struggle against my own flesh, my own mind, and my own will. Sometimes I lose against these things that are trying to force their way to the surface. Every time I lose a battle, I’m always reminded that God isn’t finished with me yet and that I’m forgiven. I’m not forgiven just for the sake of it, though, but because I have a repentant heart. sometimes my pride and ego stand in the…

Verse of the Day 12-3-22
Verse of the Day 12-3-22
Jesus: The Light of the World Then Jesus again spoke to them, saying, “I am the Light of the world; the one who follows Me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the Light of life.” John 8:12 In this verse Jesus declares himself to be “the light of the world.” This is the second of Jesus’ seven “I am” statements1. While the expression appears simple and straightforward on the outside, the…

In the original Rabbinical Hebrew it is interpreted to mean ‘save, we pray’. As we read part of the Easter story we are reminded that as Jesus was entering Jerusalem...

Revelation: Blazing Eyes and Brilliant Feet
Before we leave this first chapter, there are two more aspects of John's vision that deserve contemplation--Jesus's eyes and feet. #EyesasFlamingFire #FeetasBurnishedBronze #Gehenna #RifinersFire
John now had both the vision of Christ and the words of Christ to record. Here is Chapter One complete. Salutations from John and Jesus (Chapter 1)From John (1:1-10)From Jesus (1:11-20) Yet there are two aspects to this first vision which still require thought: Jesus’s eyes as flaming fire.Jesus’s feet were like brilliant bronze, as in having been fired in a furnace. His Eyes as Flaming…
