From Il Buco, directed by Michelangelo Frammartino. Slow cinema meets spelunking porn in this lovely, understated film. It’s a wordless meditation on the mysteries of the underworld in the spirit of Robert Macfarlane, where you are fully immersed in the acoustics of the cave, the play of light and shadow, the beauty of the Calabrian plateau, and the almost religious mission of the speleologists from the North, as contrasted with the old man who is a kind of guardian of The Hole. All conveyed without dialogue, for the landscape has its own language.

https://hodgepodge2023.blogspot.com/2023/03/the-four-times-le-quattro-volte-dir.html
This is my latest blog all about the film Le Quattro Volte (The Four Times). Director; Michelangelo Frammartino in 2010.
This is a presentation and small discussion piece that I wrote for Uni where I discussed a couple of scenes in the film and why they could be used to argue that Frammartino set out to make a non-anthropocentric film.
I loved this film - so glad that I got to re-watch it, and re-watch it and re-watch it, you know when you have to study a film you have to watch it so many times, but this was never a boring or a chore to watch.
I know that many of the films that I have been watching lately are Italian and that is because I have just finished studying Italian film so I was introduced to do many wonderful films that I hadn’t seen before.

The Lamentation of Christ, painted by Andrea Mantegna around 1480, is referenced in more films (Andrey Zvyagintsev’s The Return, Radu Jude’s Scarred Hearts), but I like how La gueule ouverte (Maurice Pialat, 1974) and Il buco (Michelangelo Frammartino, 2021), have similar titles, which in English translate, respectively, to ‘The Mouth Agape’ and ‘The Hole’.

O not defteri tam da o an suyun içine düşmeliydi diye düşündüm; ama düşmedi.

(more…)

the thing about slow cinema is it’s the rothko of film. it’s the epitome of “oh well you just wouldn’t get it.” it’s something a lot of people who don’t enjoy or watch a lot of art film have a really hard time getting through, and i feel like an absolute asshole whenever i rave about a film that’s literally just two hours of free-range livestock walking around. AND YET. i love it so so so much

#notizie #news #breakingnews #cronaca #politica #eventi #sport #moda Read the full article
