#Mt. Banahaw

Mice and rats tend to be seen as dirty pests, but did you know that our country has a cute native mouse that lives only in certain forests? If you love trees, you’ll also love the tree-mouse… the Mt. Banahaw Tree-mouse!
Unlike Mickey Mouse, the Mt. Banahaw Tree-mouse is much, much older, and exists in real life. It has orange-brown fur, and super long whiskers that help it feel around trees and vines at night.
It is one of 5 species found ONLY on Mt. Banahaw and nowhere else in the world. This is more local endemics on one mountain then there are in many countries!

Sto. Tomas, Batangas and Los Banos, Laguna
Entry point: Sitio Jordan, Brgy. San Miguel, Sto. Tomas Exit point: UP College of Forestry, Los Banos, Laguna LLA: 14.13°N 121.20°E, 1090 MASL (Peak 2) Hours to Peak 2 / days required: 1-2 days / 5-8 hours
Specs: Major climb, Difficulty 5/9, Trail class 3 with roped segments Features: Roped segments, rocky face, limatik, rattan, tropical rainforest
The Makiling Traverse (which we first referred to as "Maktrav" in 2008), invented by Sky Biscocho in the early 1990s, is still a well-liked dayhike. The height of Mt. Makiling is 1090 meters above sea level, or 3576 feet. It provides climbers with a thorough view of the Southern Tagalog mountains, including Mt. Banahaw, Mt. Kalisungan, Mt. Cristobal, Mt. Obabis, and Mt. Prinza, from the summit.
According to Dr. Jose Rizal’s writings in the year 1890 about the story and myth of Maria Makiling: Once upon a time in a place called Makiling, there lived a god and goddess couple. They have a daughter named Maria. Maria is a very beautiful maiden or fairy. Her beauty is captivating and any young man will be charmed by her porcelain complexion and shining eyes. Their family is known to be kind and helpful to others, especially those in need, which is why the people around them love them so much. In those days, the gods were given the power to mingle with the people. One day a charming young farmer saw Maria one day, and upon seeing her beauty, he fell in love with her. Since then, he has always looked forward to it. The young farmer is the envy of his fellow farmers since, thanks to Maria Makiling's care and protection, neither plague nor bugs have harmed his crops. The young man thus always ascends the mountain to meet and be with his fairy lover. They quickly developed a romantic relationship, which the girl's parents learned about. Because a goddess cannot fall in love with a mortal, Maria's parents promptly cut off contact with that man.

I’m happy to be in this beautiful resto-resort where the food was great, plants are charming and the backdrop is the enchanting Mt. Banahaw. It’s perfection that I want to invite my friends for an overnight stay here.
I’m a city boy for most of my time here on earth but now I’m at this age that I know I will be happy going to places like this…you see, seeing trees and plants makes me excited now and I now find comfort when life is slow and predictable. I’m changing.

Binibining Philippines 2022 National Costume Contest- Quezon Province
VULCAN DE AGUA Quezon is a province known for its beautiful culture, traditions and home for the Niyogyugan Festival and other festivities. Moreover, it is a place where hidden mysteries and legends were passed from our ancestors down to many generations. Loved by many adventure seekers, this province is a testament of people’s deep-seated faith that goes beyond thrill and fun as this holds the region’s highest mountain—Mount Banahaw, a place mostly visited during the holy week. Also known as the Vulcan De Agua, Mt. Banahaw is considered as the holy mountain, a spiritually-charged location where bodies of water like falls, streams and ponds maketh the ‘Blessed Water’. As the stories go, the waters from the mountains are said to be effective cure for illnesses, forecast of fortune, and charm against bad spirits. Far from the lava-releasing volcanoes in the country, this silent and sleeping wonder is said to release water and stones whenever it perfectly finds its way to eruption. Unpopular and mysterious, yet beautifully destructive and powerful—the embodiment of my womanhood, ready to conquer.
The outfit also came with a staff topped with a glowing orb

A Light That Never Goes Out - Zadkiel36 (on Wattpad) https://www.wattpad.com/1448049711-a-light-that-never-goes-out-zadkiel36?utm_source=web&utm_medium=tumblr&utm_content=share_reading&wp_uname=AmythystGem9 Amy Rose Garcia, a 27-year office worker, turns to social media with the hope of finding the man of her dreams. It is partly due to the mounting pressure from her family that she should at least find a boyfriend who would be a suitable companion for her as she is living and working away from home. Her job is located in a notorious city which naturally causes her family's anxieties about safety issues. James Zadkiel Salcedo, a 36-year old CEO of a real estate company, comes across her photo in an online dating group. He instantly feels attracted to her. What started as casual online chatting develops into a serious relationship. The 9-year age gap between them doesn't seem to matter as they live a beautiful life of happiness and contentment. Their romance takes you to an adventure of a lifetime; from the breathtaking view and rich cultural heritage of key Asian countries to the glitz and glamor of Las Vegas, Nevada. Unfortunately, a tragic incident changes their life forever. But instead of wallowing in misery, Amy immerses herself online, searching for ways to make her life bearable. By doing so, she's able to cope and even offer help to other people facing difficulties, like family/relationship problems, the grief of losing a loved one and even work related stress; or by simply extending assistance to the underprivileged. As she traverses a purposeful life, she meets Brady Gibson, an American short film producer, who introduces her to the world of the unknown. From Mt. Banahaw, a local pilgrimage destination, to the sacred place of Mt. Kailash in Tibet, they try to discover the light behind the mystery of darkness enveloping these phenomenal mountains. Amy, with Brady's help, proves that life is indeed beautiful and mysterious. It's not really magic, although mystical, that makes some aspects of life inexplicable. Words fall short to describe it, but the heart is more than capable to make Amy see in darkness guided by the light that never goes out.

ONE DAY TRIP IN GREENS⛰️
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Hi everyone! I'm back with my mini blogs here in Tumblr hehe...
So for my first entry for this month of March is all about our very spontaneous trip. My family and I went to a province in the Philippines. It was actually just a quick trip that we decided (literally my parents just told us that we were going to visit our province, little did me and my siblings knew that they were implying to our province somewhere in Laguna).
YEP! We visited our lolo's house in Banahaw, and yes it's near Mount Banahaw and Mt. Cristobal. It's located in the province of Laguna/Quezon.
Interesting fact: Mt. Banahaw is an active volcano that has erupted three times, and its last eruption happened in 1843 according to PHILVOCS. As of today, it is a popular destination for hikers. Most especially during Holy week since it is known for being the "Holy Mountain in the Philippines". 🤓
After we visited the house, we decided to stay near the river side, and mind you, the water was way waaay too cold LMAO.. Supposedly, I was gonna go for a swim but I couldn't because of the temp jskdhkshd.. We bought some snacks from the sari-sari store, but if you are planning to come and camp for a few days, it is recommended to bring foods and drinks. (yes, camping is allowed, just don't forget to clean everything before you go!!) Anw, after staying for almost 5 hours, we went straight home and grab a meal in Jollibee drive through 🍗
People in the community are very conservative. They make sure that everything are well taken care of. So the least thing that we, as visitors/tourists can do is to respect their community by basically obeying their rules towards their lovely place. 💚

This hidden gem has stolen my heart, and I’m about to spill the beans on the top reasons why you should make it your next travel escapade.  The town of Candelaria is a landlocked municipality of Quezon Province. Say hello to a little Mt. Amuyao Tree-mouse, 𝘔𝘶𝘴𝘴𝘦𝘳𝘰𝘮𝘺𝘴 𝘪𝘯𝘰𝘱𝘪𝘯𝘢𝘵𝘶𝘴! (But quietly, it's sleeping)
It is named after Mt. Amuyao where it was found, near the heart of the Cordillera mountain range. It is one of four species of tree-mouse that are considered the smallest of all cloud rats. This includes the Mt. Banahaw tree-mouse, Mt. Pulag Tree-mouse and the Sierra Madre Tree-mouse (Heaney, Balete, et al. 2014).
Mt. Amuyao is not only home to unique mice, it is also home to over 250 plant species which include trees, herbs, ferns, vines, and bamboo (PVG Salcedo, 2001). The mountain is also an important place in Indigenous history. Local Ifugao communities tell a story of a great flood where one of the only two survivors was able to stay alive on Mt. Amuyao (D Eugenio 2007).
It is hoped that cloud rats will also survive there despite their unique and threatened habitat: the “sky island” or isolated mossy mountain tops where cloud rats and other species have lived for possibly millions of years. Sky islands are “cool hotspots” for biodiversity!

Life's been stressing me so much lately that my boyfriend invited me to his province in San Pablo City, Laguna. I met his family and we have toured in a view tourist spots of the city. Our first stop was the San Pablo Church or also known as the Cathedral Parish of Saint Paul the First Hermit.
Tumblr media
It was a Sunday, so I haven't had the chance to take a picture of the interior as there was a mass going on and would be inappropriate to.
After then, we have visited one of the famous seven (7) lakes of San Pablo, the Sampaloc Lake.
Tumblr media
It was dusk and have a limited time to tour around. There were quite a lot of people and a few food stalls too. I saw some people cycling and jogging around the area. This spot also overlooks the infamous sacred Mt. Banahaw in Quezon province.
I wasn't able to capture it though as it was covered by clouds this time.

Sometimes, the daily grind just takes its toll on our body and mind that we need to unplug from time to time. However, what if you only have a day off and you don't want to batter yourself by doing the popular day hikes near the city?
Then, Tayak Hills in Rizal, Laguna is the best for you. It has a very, as in, veeerrrry chill and safe trail. Aside from that, it has a particular serene aura and beautiful view of the surrounding towns of Laguna and the infamous Mt. Cristobal.
Tumblr media
