To understand and follow the plot of this playlist story, read below. This info is also in this doc (I’ve imagined the couple as heterosexual but you can imagine it differently if you want).

A/N: Hello everyone! It’s been a while. I came up with this idea randomly on Wednesday when @5sos dropped Older (ft. Sierra Deaton). This is my first playlist and the first time I've done anything like this so please let me know how you like it! (Also please be kind, I'm fragile). Reblog to spread if you like it. Thank you!

The beginning of the story (Starting Line)

Alex feels like life is rushing past him. He’s running. Running towards something? Running away from something? He doesn’t remember. When did the gun go off at the starting line?

Alex to himself (Slip Away)

Walking through memories (Bloodline)

Alex can feel his real self slipping away like he knew it would.

A walk through the hallways at home, seeing the pictures of himself. Alex wants to run away; he wishes he had before. But no one told him that it would’ve been better for him. Would it have been better if he knew from the start?

A glimpse (Broken Home)

This song is a small glimpse into Alex’s back story, what it’s like living in his broken home.

Leaving (Invisible)

Alex decides to leave. Alex is thinking about his lost childhood in his broken home. How he feels invisible in his own home, surrounded by his family.

Alone in the outside world (Repeat)

Alex is alone in the world, falling into the deepest depths of darkness. He doesn’t know who he is anymore. He can’t recognize himself. How did his real self get miles away from him?

A cry to mother (Mum)

Alex is telling his mother sorry for leaving, sorry for not talking to her as much, sorry for not being there as he should have. This song is also a cry to his mother, for her to see how much he is falling apart without ever expressing it.

Is that light? (Diamonds)

Alex is slowly on his way out of the darkness, figuring out what is wrong. He needs to see how dark the darkness he’s fallen into is. Is he too deep in to crawl out?

Opening up to life (Comedown)

Alex is finding his new real self, lighting up the darkness, letting the beauty of life come down on him. He is open to love and finds someone, someone that he hopes needs him.

This is what it feels like (The Only Reason)

Alex, aged 23, is still recovering. But his love, Harper, is the only reason he is making it through falling apart, making it through moments where he finds it hard to breathe. Harper is the reason he keeps fighting, the reason his heart is never giving up.

Spiralling (Why Won’t You Love Me)

Alex confessed his feelings, but Harper did not respond. Now Alex is spiralling again, wondering why Harper won’t love him.

Longing (Beside You)

Harper tells him she needs time to think but all Alex wants is to be beside her (low-key so does Harper).

You’re the only one that matters (Kill My Time)

Harper tells Alex she doesn’t want to kill her time with somebody else because he’s the only thing that makes her feel alive. He is the only one that matters.

A dive into the dark (Jet Black Heart)

Alex opens up about his past after a fight, sure that he has pushed Harper away for good. He feels like he has a jet-black heart. But Harper doesn’t care and is ready to dive into the dark with him, hand in hand, together.

Will you marry me? (Best Years)

Alex proposes to Harper. He promises to give Harper the best years, to build a home together out of both of their messes, broken pieces, and tears.

Souls bound together forever (Take My Hand)

This is the moment Alex & Harper get married. Taking and holding each other’s hand now and forever, promising to never let go.

Is this real life? (A Beautiful Dream)

Alex’s life with Harper is a beautiful dream. He is asking her to stay. Stay for a while. Stay forever.

Life- (Older)

Alex & Harper realize there will be a time in the future when they are older, when they will have to exist without the other. They hope time will slow down to spend more time together. They don’t want to get older.

-& Death (Ghost Of You)

Alex is dealing with the aftermath of living without her, trying to dance through their house with Harper’s ghost. But he can’t dance because Harper is not there beside him anymore.

Alex to his love (Place In Me)

He is dancing with her again. His eyes closed, only dark to be seen. Alex is sorry that he couldn’t help her stay longer, for letting her go. He wishes she could’ve stayed. He wishes they could start over again. But Harper's ghost is fading away and he is begging it not to. He needs her. He always will because Harper will always have a place in him even if she’s gone.
