oh but the clothing choices are SO interesting here.
right when mew finally seems to be letting ray in, mew starts dressing in a style that's awfully reminiscent of ray himself:
meanwhile, right when ray is finally getting to receive the type of affection from mew he's yearned for ages - ray's not dressed the way he usually does for nights out.
in fact if i didn't know any better, i might even say he's dressed up in an outfit that's awfully reminiscent of a style a certain someone picked out just for him:
what a coincidence, that right when mew's external appearance finally seems to imply he's ready to be on the same page as ray...........ray's external appearance has shifted to reflect the lingering influence of someone new.

here's the thing. jack is a gentle person who was forced into being tough and strong and fierce by circumstance. his hands are calloused and his knuckles are bruised when he picks flowers to display in the window by his bed and when he wipes away tears from a younger boy and when he braids the hair of a little girl who can't do it herself. and davey is a fierce, angry person who has learned to be gentle and quiet and pleasant by circumstance. he isn't used to being in a fist fight but when he stops trying to be otherwise, his words are sharp and pointed and direct even when he's offering comfort and kindness and wit. jack has never had the chance to just be gentle without fighting for it. davey has never allowed himself to exist without a filter.

the contrast between two of my favourite vroom blorbos is hysterical to me.
charles: chest out. water dripping everywhere. classic movie star sunglasses. dramatic lighting. carefully composed HQ pics.
oscar: chest reveal only in the name of ocean conservation. wet as a cat in a bathtub. vaguely awkward stances throughout. blurry screengrabs captured on a potato.
(and i wouldn’t have it any other way)

I think we’re setting up for c!Tommy and c!Tubbo to learn some hot truths about staged finale.
Therefore my lore prediction is that c!Punz will be forced in some fashion to come to c!Dream’s rescue.
(Maybe Dream is caught off-guard. Maybe a confrontation in the prison throws him off, and he freezes up. Maybe he’s not prepared for an ambush, and when the potions crash against his skin, when the trap winds tight around him, he goes cold and quiet with the absolute, damning knowledge that he can’t be caught again.)
(And maybe Punz has been watching for him carefully, worried, determined to not let Dream fall prey again. So he steps in against orders.)

i still think the first mtmte arc (liars a to d) is an obscenely, impossibly good set of introductory issues though. like 'you need to teach these in university level comics classes' good. i have no idea to this day how someone with no experience whatsoever in writing comics managed to do it so fucking well. it angers me actually. i've read these scripts, they are not how comics scripts work, why the fuck are these comics sublimely good at narrative economy in a way legendary professionals doing introductions to IP-driven new titles can't match. i have read, this is not an exaggeration, thousands of western/US comics, many in the 'picking up a longstanding IP to do a new run' realm and i'm genuinely not sure any of them are as efficient as the first six issues of MTMTE. the first one issue of MTMTE. roberts is not a professional comics writer except for this one title. his scripts make me want to apologize to everyone he has ever worked with. why are they so good. not kidding at all literally this drives me INSANE how did he do. that. look it drives me nuts how are they SO good
