One reason that my life is chaos lately is recently my work went through another round of downsizing, and this time, I was included in that round. I hold no ill will — my boss did the best she could to keep as many people as possible, but you can’t pay employees when there aren’t enough paying customers lined up (probably next year, yes, once all the projects and contracts and finalized — but people gotta eat and pay rent now).

Anyway, so now I am back on the job hunt. And it’s not that fun (you’re shocked, I know). I can definitely sense a change in the market, and I’m not even looking for a unicorn job. My CV and skills transfer easily no matter what the industry, but a year ago I was having my pick of places to apply. This time I’m happy if there are a couple of new postings a week, much less a day.

But! I have a first interview this afternoon with a company that ticks all my boxes, at least on paper: decent commute, small company with a socially conscious mission, similar salary as previous job, similar sounding role as previous job (which was a fairly unique role in and of itself, so I am tentatively hopeful!).

I know that job interviews are like first dates — we’re both deciding if it’s worth carrying on to the next step.

But plz send good vibes. I don’t want to be on unemployment forever.
