Azir, Xerath and What Could Have Been
As in the song from Arcane, performed by the one and only Sting and with the iconic violin solo from Ray Chen.
youtube
The lyrics are clearly tailored to Jinx and Vi, but I love how they also befit Xerath and Azir, especially in the scenario I've been building so far.
I don't want to make it look as if I'm just writing Xerath as a one-dimensional whumper who wants to make Azir's second life as miserable as possible because he's EEEVIL. Xerath to his core is a traumatized man from a terrible background who endured an inhuman transformation – Azir is a majestic bird of prey, while he's literally become his own prison – and who lashes out on Azir in the hope that making him suffer will quench his own endless rage.
"Worst of all, for me to live, I've gotta kill the part of me that saw that I needed you more"
Part of the reason why, at the end, Xerath backs out of his deal – build a temple for me and I'll let you go – is because he doesn't want to deal with Azir anymore. He doesn't want to live in the same world Azir lives, he doesn't want to fathom any possible recovery (Azir is a tough cookie after all), he doesn't even want him to be hurt by someone who's not him. He's a problem that needs to vanish. But whatever little shred of love he has for his so-called brother is there, and it torments Xerath to no end.
"I couldn't care what invention you made me/cause I/I was meant to be yours"
So he takes all his senses, locking Azir in what could be seen as a little world of his own separated from anyone else – hence him sowing the hood onto him instead of locking it as he'd usually do, as if to make it a part of Azir's body – and forcing him to wear his own coffin too, putting them at the same level after all.
"I want your to hurt like you hurt me that day/I want you to lose like I lose when I play"
After all Xerath spent three thousand years sealed away. Azir spends... maybe a couple weeks until a. Xerath decides to sell the coffin containing him to Malzahar as a tribute to Bel'Veth, but Kai'sa rescues him or b. Rek'Sai wrecks the temple in her rampage, dragging Azir's coffin out of the sands, and then Kai'sa rescues him.
Finding out Azir has indeed grown humble after his torture, coming in contact with commoners, using his control of the sands for means that go beyond combat, apologizing formally to Taliyah and her people and trying his best to quench Renekton's rage, makes Xerath even angrier, because morsels of regret start to bite.
Azir is still pompous, graceful and determined, but he's more willing to listen, more content with simple things, sweeter in demeanor towards his retainers and generally more conscious of what a ruler's duty is – as well as more aware of his personal trauma and biases, which came way before the whole "kidnapped and tormented by Xerath" part of his life.
And the fact that he always had the potential to be this way confuses and pains Xerath, because it gives even less leeway to his "he deserves to suffer every drop of pain I inflict upon him" conceit and opens the door to the chance that, had Xerath not sabotaged his Ascension, things could have gone well for them.

…Out of curiosity, what’s your least favourite skin line?
Tumblr media
ah i see... blood, i like that.
Ok so i hate Riot and i like destroying like a kaiju with rabies so, i consider a skinline something that has at least 2 sets, cause saying Zenith Games would be repetitive and we all know that was a literal crime. So if i had to say one, Project.
Okay, the first release of Project was good, i dont really remember if i saw the release when i started playing, but the initial skins were good. The colors were well put on, the whole mecha but prothesic but futuristic stuff was well glued together, the designs were neat! They were simpler, but well put together. The only itch i have is that they made women have like, at least the half down of her face uncovered while the men champions get all their face covered. But yeah, Riot making gendered accentuations in skins, we have been knew, it keeps happening.
Master Yi and Ashe were cool when they came out eventually, again i think they are neat (gendered nonetheless) and Yi had cool interactions, Ashe had that toggle where she uncovers/covers with her hood when surrounded by enemies or being alone, wich is cool for a legendary skin from back in the day.
Vayne, Vi and Jhin were also good, Jhin is iconic, i think Vayne has a good skin, Vi went kinda on the irrelevant hole but its a neat skin nonetheless. See this is exactly what happends in all of the skinlines riot has exploited. They make good shit until they realize they can milk fans EVEN MORE and then start to get lazy.
I dont understand the downgrade with the next skin set. It was hideous, they made Pyke so dirty with a literal scam skin that recycles the default animations a lot of the time but still costs 15 dollars, and the whole story was very mushy imo. The gender remark on the skins started to get frustrating. Cause of course Irelia is pink cause shes a woman and she's also showing her face, Fiora was pink. Katarina is also pink. Jinx is purple thank god but thats probably because she was released alongside Irelia because in another case they would have made her PINK cause she's a GIRL. On the other hand Akali is there and everyone has ONE colour just not to mess up with the palette but they give her BLUE hair and RED weapons. Honey just pick a damn fucking colour you cant have both.
Since then everything has been crashing down, honestly i cant remember when did Katarina and Ekko appear but they were before Pyke and his gang release and i dont think they are bad skins entirely i just think its obvious that Kata is pink. At least they also show Ekko's half face.
There's this weird ass change (i didnt read the lore nor i care but...) were they were like robots at first and there was also human characters and now they're just HUMAN CHARACTERS or human characters stuck in ANIMAL MECHA SUITS im loosing a braincell typing this. Project Mordekaiser? They said it was the best skin in the whole game. Im not anyone to interfere on their opinion and i think their opinion is great but here's my angry opinion: Bullshit, fan inflated, male character oogabooga, if they did same with a female character everyone would be zzz. Project Renekton is eh? Project Warwick is also an eh? No clue why they started with a lets make the animal characters in project and put guys inside like. They dont know about the springlocks wink wink. I often forget Sejuani exists in this universe but yeah she has a robot pig. Or is it a guy in four inside a pig suit? Tell me cause i didnt get the memo quite well. Senna is purple cause making her pink was going to be obvious and anyway doesnt fit her aesthetic but its also a forgettable skin, at leasy you can pair it with Lucian, her face being shown of course cause yeah Riot being creative. Project Sylas is HIDEOUS i've never seen such a terrible concept of a skin he's just himself in his canon outfit but with changed colours and they keep trying to sell it to me for 10 dollars. Project Varus is literally the same as Akali but less painful, honey just pick a colour you cant be blue and yellow. Icky.
In conclusion: Girls in mecha futuristic suits show their faces cause they are too pretty to be covered even when there are laser blasters and stuff falling from the ceiling. Sylas is shirtless and thats his entire personality in the skinline. They made Pyke dirty (honestly this is my most painful statement, im drying my tears with my Project: Pyke and his 7 chromas). There are guys inside animal suits but Bristle is there so i just raise my eyebrow in confusion. Mordekaiser being the best thing to ever happen to humanity after the discovery of fire according to the fans. Etc
Anyway, set in on fire.

The Battle of Gods and Giants: 5 Best Top Laners at Worlds 2023
Tumblr media
The 2023 League of Legends World Championship has arrived, bringing together elite players from around the world. While the top lane position is often underappreciated in terms of a team's success, this time is different, as we have an exceptionally talented group of players. This year's lineup is exceptional not only because it features some of the most iconic players returning to the competition but also because we're witnessing the emergence of promising new talents who have made a name for themselves throughout the season. Each player possesses unique qualities that contribute significantly to their team's overall performance and identity. Keeping this in mind, we've identified the top-performing players that you should definitely keep an eye on during the final tournament of the season. Here are the five most impressive top laners at Worlds 2023. The best top laners at Worlds 2023 Tang “Zika” Hua-Yu  The first player on our list is LNG Esports’ top laner, Zika. He might not be one of the big names at the tournament, but the Chinese player is a truly underrated pick and one worth paying attention to. Fans have often glossed over him due to the addition of bot laner GALA to the team. Having a super carry on the other side of the map meant most of the team’s attention and focus would go to GALA and consequently put Zika into a weak position.  Regardless, Zika showed up whenever the situation called. Aside from K’Sante and Sion, his two most-played champions in the summer were Renekton and Jax. In particular, his Jax scored an 83.3 percent win rate, according to the stats site Games of Legends.  His consistency and flexibility pushed Zika among the top three top laners in the Chinese league. He recorded the second-highest KDA during the second half of the season with an average of 1.8 deaths each game, only behind JDG’s top laner 369. Individually, he also had the fourth-highest positive gold differential. Zika might not be a super carry, but he does a wonderful job on his own, and he’ll likely maintain that level of play at Worlds as well.  Choi “Doran” Hyeon-joon Even though Doran didn’t have a great showing at MSI, he bounced back with a stellar Summer Split, gapping all his rivals in the LCK and being a consistent presence in all of Gen.G’s victories.  Doran had the highest gold differential as well as the second-highest experience differential at 15 minutes. Compared to the past, where he mostly had a weak side role, Doran also evolved individually. In the summer, he started playing more damage-oriented champions like Jax and Gangplank while scoring 20 solo kills throughout the split, the highest number in his role.  It’s unclear whether he will keep up the same level against the LPL top laners but Doran is unquestionably one of the strongest players in his role at Worlds 2023.  Kang “TheShy” Seung-lok If you’ve followed League for a few years, you probably know TheShy. Remember Worlds 2018 when he was smurfing against all the top laners? That’s how dominant TheShy was when he first took the 2018 World Championship.  After four years of failing to make Worlds, TheShy is back on the big stage. It’s incredible how he’s only 23 years old, yet he’s considered one of the most experienced players across the globe. Throughout the years, we saw TheShy slowly evolve his playstyle, going from a lane-dominant carry player to willingly playing weak side for the benefit of the team. Nonetheless, he’s still the top laner with the highest damage percentage in the LPL, with nearly 600 damage per minute. TheShy’s potential is undeniable, but it ultimately comes down to how Weibo Gaming can utilize him. While the player has no issues in isolated matchups, he can be vulnerable to ganks, especially if the team doesn’t help him out. This will be the key to TheShy and WBG’s entire run at Worlds. Chen “Bin” Ze-Bin In the first half of 2023, Bin took the LPL by storm, carrying BLG in crucial moments like the series against Gen.G at MSI earlier this year, dominating over his counterpart Doran in the elimination bracket.  During the Summer Split, however, he couldn’t maintain the same level of dominance. A part of that was due to the meta not favoring his carry-oriented style, bogging him down. Most of his damage-oriented picks like Jax, Gwen, and Fiora, which he played the most in the first half of the season, went missing in the second half, as he moved over to safer picks like K’Sante and Renekton. Regardless, he was still consistent on an individual level, boasting the highest CS per minute, gold per minute, and average gold differential, according to lpl.qq. He wasn’t able to show up during the Asian Games, as China lost to South Korea in the semifinals, but now that he has gone back to BLG, we should see him return to his standards and prove to the world why he’s one of the best top laners of 2023.  Bai “369” Jia-Hao Even though Bin was considered by fans and LPL enthusiasts the most complete top laner for the majority of the season, he still had a kryptonite of his own, JDG’s 369. Whenever Bin and 369 clashed, the latter always ended up having the upper hand.  He might not be the type of carry player fans love to see, but he’s No. 1 when it comes to playing weak side and playing in isolation and low on resources. If JDG can shine and win games through their mid and bot lane, it’s also thanks to 369’s ability to handle the pressure and deny all snowballing opportunities from enemies on his side of the map. It’s not surprising that he had the lowest number of deaths at 84 among all top laners in the LPL, with Ornn and K’Sante being his most-played champions. Reliable, consistent, and unpunishable: no other player better suits these words than 369. Read the full article

Crocodiles in Media (2)
These are some other crocodile/alligator characters that I have managed to find.
Renekton- League of Legends
The game League of Legends is known for their wide range of characters and so Renekton fits right in with all the other humanoid animals and spirits.
I have always loved the full on rendered style of the game's splash art and the cinematic feel of the composition which manages to emerge the players into this fantastical world filled with peculiar creatures and characters. The character's design is pretty solid and although the anthropomorphic looking body and armour make this character feel more human, there is still a primal ferocity in his pose and demeanour which balances the human-animal ratio.
Tumblr media
Killer Croc- Batman Arkham Asylum
I don't know a lot about this character but I still consider Killer Croc to be one of the most iconic and well known crocodile-related characters in the media.
I find his backstory to be pretty interesting as well. From my research, Killer Croc (formally known as Waylon Jones) was born with a rare condition that sort of resembles epidermolytic hyperkeratosis which is a skin condition that causes sever blistering and a scaly like texture.
The design itself has stayed pretty much the same through the years and although it is a simple design, it delivers the character's tragic backstory pretty greatly.
Tumblr media
I personally prefer the comic version rather than the 3D game model. I feel like the pronounced black shadows and comic like style make this character look more threatening and easy to read rather than the 3d one which seems to look a bit bland and out of proportion.
Tumblr media
The Crocodiles- Assassin's Creed Origins
These crocodiles from ACO are pretty similar to the ones from Resident Evil. I have found a surprising amount of similar characters in games. They are usually there to make the player's journey a little more interesting through fighting these water ''enemies'' .
I think the model look good and I like how, compared to Resident Evil, these crocodiles have more texture and dimension to their skin. However, I think this model's face looks a bit strange, especially the teeth. They seem to be a little too big and the strange yellow-ish colour makes them stand out , giving them an almost cartoonish look.
Tumblr media
King K. Roll- Donkey Kong
King K. Rool is a fictional anthropomorphic crocodile and the main antagonist in Nintendo's Donkey Kong video game franchise, as well as the archnemesis of Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong.
I was never a big fan of the way Nintendo designs their villains. I always found the cartoonish and stylised look to work a lot better as a 2D pixelated game rather than 3D. I do, however, appreciate the attention to details in the scaly body and the shiny elements like the crown and the diamond on his cape.
Tumblr media
Brutus and Nero- The Rescuers
So far, all the characters I have looked at have had the role of the villain/enemy or simply be an obstacle in the protagonist's journey through the movie/game.
Such is the case for these two ''henchmen'' from Disney's 1977 The Rescuers. There is nothing special about these designs although the iconic Disney style makes for some very nice and exaggerated face expressions for these two crocodiles. The villainous smiles combined with the sharp teeth st5iking out and the cat-like glowing eyes pretty much define what animal antagonists look like in Disney movies.
Tumblr media
A good example for that are the eels from Little Mermaid and the hyenas from Lion King which both have the same features.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Louis- The Princess and The Frog
This crocodile from The Princes and the Frog is the first crocodile I have researched that does not have the role of the villain/antagonist.
Louis not only helps the protagonists on their journey but would go as far as to transform himself in a human just so he can pursue his dream as a musician. The way he was designed makes it very obvious that he was never intended to be a bad guy. While all the other crocodiles/alligators I have looked at have very sharp teeth and claws and scaly bodies and intimidating eyes, Lois is a lot more rounded up and happy looking.
I think this shows how even something as dangerous and terrifying as a crocodile doesn't have to only stay in a certain circle of designated roles but can break the stereotypes and be the hero of a story.
Tumblr media
Alligator Loki- Loki
I love this characters role in the Loki series and although it does not speak or emote, it often shows a lot of personality and cunning intelligence.
The comic relief animal character is something that has been done in popular comedy Disney Shows before such as in Jessy where the new nanny has to deal with one of the kids 7 ft long Asian Monitor Lizard.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Lizzie- Rampage
In the movie adaptation, Lizzie was once a normal American Crocodile from the Florida Everglades. However, after consuming a whole canister of serum that was designed to cure most of the world's diseases, the once normal reptile mutated into a gigantic monster with razor sharp scales, huge tusks and teeth and a spiny club on her tail similar to an Ankylosaurs.
Tumblr media
These are some of the early designs for Lizzie that ended up not being used. I absolutely love the way these designs present a more fantasy like creature that mix the features of dinosaurs with dragons.
These designs remind me of Kaijus which are giant alien looking monsters that originate from Japanese media. I specifically like the white versions mouth and how it is filled with thousand of teeth and splits up in 3 individual parts.
On the other hand, I really like the blue and green colouration of the second design. It reminds me of how some dinosaurs used to be very vibrant. I also think this kind of colouration would suggest mutation a lot more well since it implies something more drastic and scientifically unexplainable.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Crocubot- Rick and Morty
Crocubot is a character from Rick and Morty that is basically part crocodile and part robot. I love this design and how the only organic crocodile parts that have still remained are his head, and arm and his tail.
I think the idea of mixing cyborgs/robots with organic real-life animals is a very interesting idea that could make for some very cool character designs from a dystopian world.
Tumblr media
This sort of thing reminds me of how in Detroit Become Human people have not only manage to create human like robots but also android animals who look exactly like animals on the outside but look like machines on the inside.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
We have reached a point in engineering and robotics where we are able to build animals that act and look like animals, so a scenario similar to Detroit is not as impossible as we might think.
Scientists have built a robot that teaches itself how to walk like an animal. This robot was made for research purposes and as an attempt of learning how the spinal cord operates in a new born animal. The robot uses an algorithm to guide its learning. A foot sensor sends information to target data from a modelled virtual spinal cord which runs as a program in the robot’s computer. It learns to walk by continuously comparing sent and expected sensor information, and adapting its motor control patterns.
Another very interesting example is how a roboticist from The University of Berlin created a robotic bee which was then placed in a hive to monitories the interactions and communication between bees. The most important part of this experiment was to understand why and how a worker bee signals the location of a nearby food source through a specific ''waggle dance'' .
youtube
TomBot is a robot that resembles a Labrador puppy. This robot dog was created in order to help dementia patients, families, and individuals that are facing health adversities.
The robot was programmed to act exactly like a real puppy, with everything from realistic dog sounds to interactive sensors that make the robots actins and movements really life-like
Historic and Spiritual Links
Crocodiles have ties in Egyptian culture as well. In the Pyramid Texts, there were mentions of Sobek, one of the oldest Egyptian deities. He was the lord of the crocodiles and was often depicted as having the body of a human and the head of a crocodile.
Tumblr media
He was worshipped by the people of ancient Egypt in order to appease both him and crocodiles in general, but to also ensure the fertility of their people and crops. It is said that Sobek was the creator of the Nile river. Many mummified crocodiles, of all ages and sizes, have been found in Egyptian tombs.
Crocodiles are also considered monsters and devils in disguise by Christians during the Middle Ages. For native tribes, crocodiles signify unflattering personality traits such as aggressive attitude. short-temperedness or even insincerity and false emotions by shedding ''crocodile tears''.
They could also have a more positive meaning as well. Someone who's spiritual animal is the crocodile, could be characterised trough positive traits such as precision in motion and agility.

I’ve been picturing Azir paraphrasing this iconic speech to the ghosts of his shit-ass parents the moment before they finally shuffle off for good and never pester him again.
“You may have created me, but you were never my parents.
Parents are kind. Parents protect you. Parents raise you.
I was protected by Xerath, whom you and all your sycophants taught me to dismiss and disvalue, and by Sivir, Taliyah, Samira, Akshan and K’Sante, whom you’d not even look upon if you were to cross their paths.
I was raised by Nasus, my true father, and his brother Renekton, whom I will rehabilitate even if you see him as of no worth.
They are my family.
This is my home. And you are not welcome here.
Arise.”
It should be noted that whenever I write of Azir having a confrontation with someone it always leaves him shaken and in need of comfort, straight-up in tears or simply upset.
Not this time.
During this confrontation Azir stands firm and fierce, staring at his ghosts in the face before they vanish for good. Almost as if he was the parent scolding his rowdy children. When he leaves, it’s in triumph.
Also the fact that his parents were shit isn’t meant to justify what he did and the system he was complicit in, but give context to how he became this way. Azir knows he’s the product of a crooked system and an abusive family, which led him to make the crucial mistakes that doomed Shurima and took all his dear ones.
Now that they’re no more he can abdicate in peace.
