Today I got some lingo soup for ya: (with a slightly philosophical garnish and some [almost punny] metaphor noodles)

[Beware of surreal imagery and loosen your associations, we will associate freely now: ]

"The disheveled common thread... ...returns as colorful web"

In German, the idiom "common thread" is literally translated as "RED thread" ("roter Faden").

That is why I kept spinning that metaphor noodle soup even further, and came up with the idea of the "colorful web" that emerges from the disheveled fibers of that "red/common thread".

What does it mean?

It just means that I could connect the dots about my biography and the life circumstances that we were/are in - and that now I can clean up that mess. It just means coming to terms with what happened - and yeah, it was shit. I'm happy it's over now. And although cleaning up the mess our past has left behind is extremely exhausting, I look forward to the life I have still ahead of me.

I am the colorful web of the disheveled fibers that never formed a functional thread. That's neither tragedy nor anything unique, it is just as it is, an adaption to circumstances, an adaption to feed the intrinsic will to live: Nothing more, nothing less.

Since I just finished my bachelor thesis and have all this -for now- unnecessary knowledge swirling around in my head, I let it out here, in case anyone can find it useful.

I present: the biggest (formating & general) rules in thesis writing (as proposed by my German professor):

1. Per page: at least 2 maximum 4 paragraphs. Professors don't like to have one huge block of text for more than half a page. They will be less likely to want to read your paper.

2. Figures and Images: put them in the text where they are spoken about, don't just refer to them being in the appendix. It disrupts the reading flow and no professor likes to shuffle back and forth in a paper multiple times. Also, images and figures should be centralised on a page, seem coherent with each other in their entirety (especially if you created them yourself, use one colour and design pallette if possible) and be named correctly. Additionally, ich you use more than 3 or 4 images/figures, have a table of tables/figures in the front of your paper after table of contents.

3. Use figures and Images - be visual, make your thesis as easy as possible to understand. No one likes to read something and have his brain in knots the whole time.

4. Use times new Roman (or Arial) in size 12, 1.5

5. Recap: If your paper is really long, we're talking about 45 pages plus and you are talking about something from chapter 2 in chapter 7, briefly (!) recap it for ease of understanding and to reinforce your red string (roter Faden).

6. Subtitles: rather have too many than too few subtitles, they make it easier to navigate the paper and help you keep track of the smaller sections (they can also help in the writing process as too not lose focus of what you are doing).

7. Limitations and future research: at the end of your paper, after the discussion and before the conclusion, you have to name limitations. If you think you had none, look again. NO paper, none at all has no limitations. If you can think only of a few, you can also add them in one or two sentences to the conclusion, but it's better to have a separate part. For theses or papers in general, common limitations are time constraint, limited access to data, limited know-how, etc. After limitations, you can have another small chapter called "future research", here you can put all the ideas that you had during writing, which are in relation to your main topics. Maybe you would have liked to research more into a specific area, or you were missing key information somewhere. In future research you can put all the ideas you would like to see researched in the future.

8. Page numbers: i hope you were clever and formatted your document with page numbers, titles and subtitles before even starting to write (if you weren't, like me), it's not horrible, but it can be slightly annoying. Don't try to do it by yourself if your not sure. Just don't. You will probably get frustrated and your stress levels will rise even more. Just Google "how to multiple kinds of page numbers Microsoft word" and follow the instructions exactly. This saves you time and nerves. Usually in theses, you use Greek page numbers (I,II,III,IV,V,VI,...) For table of contents until the introduction, and then continue with them as soon as your bibliography starts. For the part in between (introduction until conclusion) you use Roman (?) numbers (1,2,3,...).

9. Titles: if you use 1. 1.2 1.2.1 etc., make sure that it is necessary to use things like 4.5.5.1.1. A rule of thumb is, if you can't say 2 (i.e. 4.5.5.1.1 but not 4.5.5.1.2) than you don't need to say 4.5.5.1.1 at all but put that part unter 4.5.5.1. Of course, this rule does not work all the time, but I like to check the necessity of my structure in this way.

10. Plan more days: When you are nearly done with your writing process, many of us estimate 1 day for formatting and 1 for proof reading. This is, was and never will be enough. Especially not if you are a perfectionist. Plan at least 1 week for formatting and proofreading. Honestly I would recommend 10 days. Because after writing a huge paper like this you are bound to be exhausted and will crash some days. Also, it is good to take 1-2 days of distance from your work to have a fresh point of view. If I would write a bachelor thesis again, I honestly would calculate 2 weeks for formatting and proofreading. If you have to "fix" your sources, definitely take 10 days. You will take 2 days for sources, if you have to find additional ones, or check them.

11. Last but not least: if possible, register your bachelor thesis (i.e. in Germany that is the point when you officially start your writing period (usually around 9-12 weeks) as late as possible. Do as much research, etc. before this time starts. I won't say write at least half of your thesis before you start this period and have all your questionnaires/interviews/or whatever research type you use ready to go. I won't say that, but well... Just, 9 weeks is nothing. Honestly, think about the 2 weeks towards proofreading, sources and formatting (+trying to get calm after being stressed continuously for 7 weeks (I was)). Just, if you think now is the time to register, wait another two weeks.

Ich muss mal darüber reden,

wie der Ava/Julia-Streit aus Staffel 26 nun noch ein wenig mehr wehtut…

Ava wird uns vorgestellt als jemand, die einen Draht zu Fahrrädern hat, aber zu Menschen nicht direkt eine Verbindung aufbaut.

Mit Julia ist der Beginn sehr holprig. Nach einigen Auseinandersetzungen helfen ein erfolgreiches Referat und die gemeinsame Liebe zur Lakritze beim Start ihrer Freundschaft.

Weil Ava ein guter Mensch ist, ist sie zur Stelle, wenn sie bei Probleme helfen kann. So kommt ihr Bruder Patrick ins Spiel (damit Colin und Noah ein Date haben können). Leider entpuppt sich Julia als Patrick-Fan und damit hat Ava schlechte Erfahrungen gemacht. Julia versichert Ava aber, dass sie eigentlich kein Fan ist. Ava bleibt misstrauisch, aber möchte Julia glauben, weil sie ihr wirklich eine gute Freundin geworden ist. Zunächst ist Avas Bruder auch eigentlich kein Thema mehr. Nur dann übernimmt Patrick eine Rolle in Noahs Film und Julia hintergeht Ava, indem sie sich Patricks Nummer besorgt und ihm heimlich schreibt.

Wir sehen nicht, wie Ava von Julias Verrat erfährt. Aber sie ist enttäuscht. Sie gibt Julia trotzdem die Chance von allein die Wahrheit zu sagen. Das tut Julia aber nicht.

Ava ist wieder darauf reingefallen. Sie wurde schonmal enttäuscht. Das wussten wir schon, weil Ava in Staffel 26 erwähnte, dass ihre Freunde nur noch von Patrick geredet haben.

Aber nun haben wir Folge 1062 bekommen und diese Stelle:

„Er hat mich einfach weggeworfen. Am Ende war ihm doch der Fame wichtiger. Ich war ihm… ich war ihm egal.“ (die line delivery ist *chefs kiss*)

Damit erhalten wir nochmal einen ganz anderen Blickwinkel auf Ava. Das Gefühl nicht genug zu sein, zieht sich wie ein roter Faden durch ihre Geschichte und es begann mit Patrick. Nur dass er nicht, wie bisher gedacht, einen passiven Part spielte. Er war der erste, der Ava ersetzte und von da an blieb er immer ein Teil vom Problem…

…auch bei Julia. Ava denkt sie wurde wieder ersetzt, durch ihren Bruder. Julia war der Fame, aka Kontakt zu Patrick, wichtiger und obwohl Ava Julia mehrere Chancen gegeben hat ehrlich zu sein, hat Julia diese nicht genutzt. Was soll Ava denn da anderes glauben, als dass sie Julia egal ist?

Für Ava wiederholt sich die Geschichte ständig und wieder ist es Patrick, der Ava das Gefühl gibt nicht wichtig genug zu sein. Der hat echt einiges wieder gut zu machen…

Ich lieb‘s, wie die guten Szenen in Staffel 27 es schaffen den Storylines in Staffel 26 noch mehr Tiefe zu geben und ich bin schon sehr gespannt, wie es in dieser Staffel mit Ava und Patrick weitergeht.

also ich muss sagen, ich finde die story richtig gut wenn sie noah’s story dann nach dem colin geht so richtig auf seine gefühle und vergangenheit beziehen. sie haben dann eine ganze staffel zeit dafür, colin kann ja trotzdem in erscheinung treten zB dass es Noah stören wird wenn von einmal jemand anders Colin’s Bett kriegt, dass er immer wieder connector space checkt um nach ihm zu schauen, dass er diese kinokarten immer noch aufbewahrt man könnte die story so richtig gut machen nur hab ich angst wegen diesem schatz gesuche. nicht das dann sowas kommt wie, dass noah sich voll in diese schatz suche reinstürzt um sich abzulenken und am dann ende fällt ihm kurz ein ach was ich will doch mit colin zsm sein.

Ich hab auch Angst, dass diese Schatzsuche so viel Raum einnimmt, dass für alles andere gar keine Zeit mehr bleibt. So als kleine Nebenstory von ein paar Charakteren, die sich als roter Faden durch die Staffel zieht wär das ja okay gewesen. Aber wenn da die ganze Schule mitmacht?

Überholspur

Das ist wohl das Leben, flüstere ich mir selbst leise ins Ohr, wenn ich spüre, dass es wieder kommt. "All das habe ich bis hier hin bereits hinter mir gelassen"- wiederholt es sich in meinem Kopf, wie ein schlechtes Mantra aus diesen scheiß Selbsthilfebüchern. "Was willst du eigentlich?", frage ich mich.

Von klein auf an hatte ich alles. Mama und Papa haben aus mir mehr als nur ein selbstbewusstes Mädchen gemacht. Seit 19 Jahren ist da immer jemand, der eine schützende Hand über mich legt. "Alle Türen dieser Welt stehen dir offen, Lana." Ich genieße so fast alle Privilegien dieser Welt, mit jeder Minute welche vergeht. Ich bade in Träumen von Menschen und ertrinke in ihnen. Ich weiß, dass ich ein oft viel zu komplizierter Mensch bin. Die Verantwortung ablegen, Fehler machen, Ausreden lassen und eigenen Freiraum schaffen - gehört zu einigen von vielen Schwächen. Ich sehne mich nach nichts anderem als der Superkraft in dem Moment leben zu können. Ihr wisst wie ich bin, ich weiß wie ich bin. Das sicherlich unglaubliche Gefühl, Dinge auf mich zukommen zu lassen, den Moment anzunehmen und ihn zu genießen, blieb mir bis dato verwehrt. Keiner steht mir im Weg, außer mir selbst. Dramatik und theatralische Poesie, zieht sich wie ein roter Faden durch mein Leben. Vielleicht ist das der Wassermann in mir, vielleicht ist es Angst. Wovor, kann ich dir leider an diesem Punkt noch nicht sagen. Alles muss nach meinem Plan laufen. Ich muss funktionieren. Ein explodierender Kalender, schafft Beruhigung. Erschöpfung existiert nicht.

Lana, du weißt, dass sie existiert. Du lebst ein Leben auf Dauerbeschallung. Du sitzt bei 180km/h auf dem Beifahrersitz und siehst wie sich die Umgebung um dich herum verzerrt. Du rast seit Jahren auf der Überholspur, um dich selbst zu überholen. Du schaffst Struktur und Ordnung um dich herum. Die leise Hoffnung es würde auch in dir alle Stifte, Pullover und Schulhefte nach Farbe und Größe ordnen.

Sag mir, wovor rennst du weg?

Hecking rude that I need to actually do things myself. Like. I am very good at conceptualising things, finding that red line (''roter faden''? is that a thing in english) to lead for example through a presentation or an article or a story in an engagining way, i'm good at knowing what needs to get done to make a project work, i can write algorithms, i can lay out the steps to a project, i can come up with ideas to make it all so much better

But then actually.... doing the things? Filling the outline of the presentation with the actual material? Actually writing the story? Writing the code to actually run the algorithm?

Ugh. Like. I can do it. But it's always really hard on my adhd brain bc, well, it thinks it already finished it. Look, this is what the start, ending and middle of this presentation needs to be. What do you mean I need to actually make the graphic I want here or note down the definiton I want here so I can then put it on the blackboard properly? What do you mean I need a handout? A power point presentation? Fuck that.
