The Arbour, Dove Nest, Rydal, Cumbria
This unassuming little garden arbour has provided shelter for some of the greats of the 19th century – although the name of only one will be widely recognised today. It was built as a retreat in the grounds of a little villa called Dove Nest, which overlooked the great lake of Windermere. Continue reading The Arbour, Dove Nest, Rydal, Cumbria

"Fairie Stair" At the bottom of Wordsworth's garden at Rydal Mount rests a stairway long forgotten. I can picture all manner of ancient folk treading these moss covered steps. KClarkPhotography

Materiella teckningar / Material drawings at Arvika konsthall
Månader / Months – Seven site-specific collages of paper pieces mounted directly on the wall.
The pieces of paper comes from our ongoing project (Material) Site Recordings that is a nomadic sculpture / installation project. It has been moving between sites since 2018 and in September 2021 it moved to a forest by Hedgärdessjön in Skene where MASU now runs a Forest Lab, a collaborative studio. On the site is a stack of wooden laths that are the primary sculpture material of the project. In November 2021 we placed 7 large drawing / watercolor papers in the layers of wood, letting it rest over nine months to open for a collaborative drawing process together with weather, water, the forest and its various inhabitants. In July 2022 we had used material enough to reach the layers of paper that had been hidden. We harvested the papers, both smaller pieces and larger sheets.
Månader / Months are collages where we built new drawings from pieces that are marked, bruised and partly dissolved with marks from weather, fungi, pine needles and insects. The collages held a temporary constellation at the exhibition and will continue to be a part of the (Material) Site Recordings project.
In October, as we dismantle a sculpture at Rydals museum and return the laths to the forest, we will place new papers in the stack and start this part of the project over again.

“Your mind is the garden,  your thoughts are the seeds. The harvest can either be flowers or weeds.” – William Wordsworth
Come forth into the light of things, let nature be your teacher.
William Wordsworth
The popular myth that William Wordsworth was, first and foremost, a poet of daffodils, Wordsworth’s Gardens and Flowers: The Spirit of Paradise provides a vivid account of Wordsworth as a gardening poet who not only wrote about gardens and flowers but also designed – and physically worked in – his garden.
Peter Dale and Brandon C. Yen are both struck by Wordsworth’s attitude to the fate of the wilder flowers. For the former, Wordsworth was ahead of his time, anticipating recent disquiet over “the controlling, miniaturising, shears-wielding, roadside verge-purging tendencies of one of our own contemporary landscape mindsets”. For the latter, Wordsworth’s comments on Rydal Mount’s untidy plants are of a piece with his objections to the controlling trimness of his own day – with Hannah More’s restrictive tracts and the so-called improvements to Georgian landscapes and minds. Where Dale imagines what kind of plants might be swept away from the well at Rydal – “the ferns, the splodging mats of Mile-a-Minute, the pennyworts, all those things that like a damp spot – Sagittaria, Lords.

Efe Gokce: Lake District England Tours
Highlights of Cumbria & the English Lake District
Explore the very best locations & views of the Lake District, Private Tour with Locals
Efe Gokce: Designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2017, the Lake District National Park boasts some of the most spectacular scenery in the UK, containing a picturesque collection of traditional villages, dry stone walls, ancient woodland and tranquil lakes - all presided over by the largest mountain fells in England. Famously the home of writer and conservationist Beatrix Potter, the muse of William Wordsworth and stomping grounds of Alfred Wainwright, the area has long inspired locals and visitors alike.
This tour of between one and five days aims to provide a broad overview of this magical area, as we traverse the park north to south, then east to west. Located in the heart of the Lakes, the historic market town of Ambleside makes a perfect base for our adventures, giving good access to the surrounding passes and fells. All private transport between the locations (both classic and seldom frequented) is included.
