Subject: Texas Chainsaw Massacre & House of Wax
Cw: Rslur and slight ableism (I have autism, I never actually use this slur irl, especially not in a hateful way. I only feel comfortable typing it when it’s in the context of it obviously not being ok to use slurs like this. I do not condone the use of this word whatsoever, but understand other mentally disabled people are fully allowed to reclaim it.)
Tumblr media
Thomas and I were frantically running around the house, attempting to pack everything for a trip. Hoyt and Monty were drunk as usual, slurring obscenities at the television. Mama May was slaving away in the kitchen, preparing the festivities early for Thomas and I.
“Thomas! Be sure to pack Spider’s bowl! If we forget her food it’s gonna be a long weekend.” I shouted to my boyfriend.
Thomas and I had been together for about three years now, the first of which was mostly long distance, but I lived with him during the winter months for now. Hoyt always commented about how I was conveniently missing out on crop season but I didn’t let it bother me. The old coot could try my patience faster than anyone I knew.
“Baby did you hear me?”
When I got no grunt in response I got concerned, dropping my bag onto my bed and rounding the corner into his room. When I didn’t see him I was confused.
“Tommy?”
I felt a hand on my shoulder and nearly jumped out of my skin. I clutched my chest and turned to glare at my boyfriend.
“Not funny Thomas, when did you learn to be so quiet?” I joked.
“Sorry.” He signed.
I just laughed and pecked him on his cheek.
“Spider’s bowl, your suitcase.”
He nodded and caught my hand as I was about to exit his room.
“Yes my love?”
“Nervous” he signed.
“You have nothing to worry about, my brothers will love you!” I assured. “I’m gonna go help Mama finish dinner.”
He gave me a sweet smile and gestured me forward, holding the door open for me. I made my way into the kitchen and saw a stressed Luda May running around.
“Let me help you.” I offered.
“That’s real sweet baby, can you just stir the mashed potatoes for me and finish the salad?”
“Mama you didn’t have to make a salad just for me, I would’ve been fine without one.”
“Nonsense, my favourite girl is gonna get what she wants for thanksgiving.”
“Thank you mama, did you freeze Spider’s food?”
“Yep. Got her all covered for your trip. I’m glad you’re taking her with you, can’t promise Hoyt and Monty won’t try to cook her up.”
“Yeah after last time I’m not taking that chance ever again.” I shuddered.
Dinner at Tommy’s was chaotic as usual. The boys were howling over some disgusting jokes they were telling. Spider sat beneath my chair, curled up in a ball inside her sweater, her lack of fur caused her to get cold quickly.
Tumblr media
My little girl was so precious, and Thomas loved her dearly. I’m pretty sure he’d cut off Monty’s arms before letting him try to touch her. After what her did to Mavis, I’d kill him if he tried anything. Thomas happily ate his dinner, complimenting Luda May’s cooking.
“Are you sure you have to go?” Luda plead.
Thomas nodded his head, reaching across the table to grasp my hand in his own.
“I’m gonna tell you a secret mama.” I whispered. “Thomas is gonna ask my brothers a very special question on this trip.” I winked.
Her eyes sparkled brighter than I’d ever seen them. A huge smile broke out on her face.
“Oh I’m so excited! You better give me grand babies you hear” she whispered back.
Thomas blushes furiously, you could see it even though he wore his usual mask. I used my free hand to reach across the table and pinch his cheek lightly, giving him a soft smile.
“Can’t make any promises”
The next morning Luda May sent us off with tears in her eyes. Thomas got into the back seat of my truck so he could properly stretch out. He held Spider in his lap, and pet her gently. Of course you couldn’t convince him to leave home without his trusty chainsaw. You remembered him signing to you worriedly in the middle of the night after waking you up “but what if something goes wrong and I need to protect you.” Not wanting to upset the man, and thinking it was quite adorable you just nodded your head and told him to go back to sleep. He dragged your body closer to his, placing you on top of him in a firm hold.
You knew the drive would be long so you made a whole playlist for the trip. It consisted of of songs from some of your favourite musicals. Some were new and some you’d listened to so many times that even Thomas was humming them from the back seat. Your ride went peaceful until almost like the twin was cursed, your car broke down just outside of Ambrose. You debated calling Lester to come pick you up but you wanted all your brothers to meet Tommy at the same time. It would make him more comfortable if he didn’t have to introduce himself more than once. You sighed.
“Thomas darling, we’re gonna have to walk. I promise it’s not far, my brothers will fix up the car tomorrow.”
Thomas looked at you like you were insane. He was used to hard labour, but he didn’t want you walking when the weather was like this.
“Baby I promise you it is more than safe. Besides it’s just like when we take walks back home right? Except I kinda feel bad you’ll have to carry our luggage.”
He grunted, as a way to say “don’t worry about it.”
You got our do the car and grabbed your backpack, also grabbing Spiders carrying case, that you conveniently packed all the food in. Thomas grabbed the heavy stuff and the two of you began walking toward your family home. You knew Bo would have everyone slaving away in the kitchen, this man took food related holidays very seriously. And this was the first time in two years you’d be back home for thanksgiving. The three of you paused outside the front door. Spider jumped off Tommy’s shoulder and gracefully wiped her feat on the welcome mat. You looked back at Thomas and he looked petrified.
“Oh sweetheart, you don’t have to be nervous, they’re gonna love you, you wanna know why?”
He nodded.
“Because I love you!” You lifted his mask to place a romantic kiss on his lips.
You watched as Thomas’s thick calloused hands hooked under his mask and began to remove it. You grabbed his hand and stopped him.
“You don’t have to take it off ok. Yeah Bo might make a few comments about your mask but he doesn’t mean it. You don’t have to change anything about yourself Tommy. You’re already perfect.”
He gave you a smile and placed his mask back down on his head. You knocked on the door.
“It’s open! If you’re not Tiny, I’ve got a gun!” You heard Lester yell.
You chuckled softly, blushing at the nickname your brothers had given you. You were the youngest Sinclair after all, and definitely the smallest. You opened the door and Spider made her way to the kitchen, running straight for Jonsey. You gently grabbed Tommy’s hand a guided the gentle giant into your house. You took at deep breath as you walked through the door, being immediately comforted by the scents filling the air. Before you knew it your were being lifted off the ground and Vincent was spinning you in the air. He held you in a death grip, almost as if he was afraid if he let go your disappear.
“Hey Vinnie” you smiled.
Thomas looked at you in panic, afraid that your brother would drop you. Jonsey jumped up on you, wagging her tail.
“Hi baby, did you miss me?” You pet her.
Lester was the next to greet you, totally ignoring the man at your side.
“Did you get shorter?” He joked.
“You’re hilarious” you deadpanned.
He ruffled the hair on your head and you swatted him away. It wasn’t until Bo turned around, taking a fresh tray of brownies out of the oven until anyone noticed Thomas. Without even greeting you your brother instinctively went into overprotective mode. He grabbed a knife from the counter and pushed you behind him.
“Bo, be nice.” You warned.
“Please don’t tell me this is the guy you’re seeing.” He spoke.
You glared at your brother something fierce, a look he’d never seen in you before.
“Garage, now.” You seethed.
When the two of you made it into the garage he prepared to make fun of you for your little freak out but paused when he saw you. You were practically shaking and steadied yourself with a few deep breaths. You finally turned to look at him.
“Bo I love you, that much is obvious. But I swear to god if you ruin this thanksgiving I will walk out the door right now and I will NEVER come back.”
He starred at you for a moment, you FNaF be serious can you. When he didn’t visibly react you continued.
“Tonight is extremely important to me ok. I’ve got all my boys here with me and nobodies more important to me than the three of you so please, Bo I’m begging you, just behave. You clearly put a lot of effort into cooking for us tonight and I really appreciate it.”
You knew your brother didn’t take well to be threatened so you eased up on him. He simply nodded, he went to follow you back inside, grabbing a pack of beers from the garage fridge before following you. What you saw when you reached the kitchen made your heart scream. There sat Tommy in the middle of the floor, Jonsey licking his face and giving him so much love. You weren’t sure if she was just trying to eat his mask or not and the thought of it made you chuckle, bringing the attention in the room back to you. Your brothers starred at you weirdly and having Thomas stare up at you for once broke you.
You quickly broke out into a full fit of giggles, clutching your stomach to try and quell the pain. Tears threatened to fall out of your eyes.
“Has she finally lost it?” Lester whispered to Vincent who simply shrugged.
Thomas watched you in horror, he’d never seen you laugh like that before. The sound made his heart melt, but you looked like you were in pain and it worried him.
“Oh Tommy!” You exclaimed, wiping the tears from your eyes.
You walked over to your boyfriend, leaning your head onto his.
“You look positively adorable.” You cooed.
Bo made a fake gagging sound at the affection.
“I should ask you to sit on the floor more often.” You finished your laughing. Laying a gentle peck on his face, adjusting his mask.
You reached out your hand to help Thomas up off the floor and he took it wearily. He was afraid he would pull you down with him, so he used most of his own strength to get himself off the floor, not wanting to hurt your feelings. Your brothers finished their thanksgiving day chores and joined you all at the table. You skipped over the sappy parts, simply wanting to get straight to the meal.
“Wait I forgot to feed Spider, hang on!”
You got up from the table and grabbed spiders mela from the fridge. You felt bad when you saw Jonesy excitedly trot over. You started at the dog with sadness in your eyes.
“Well I suppose you two can share for tonight.” You said before splitting the food into two bowls.
The pets are happily, simply enjoying the special treatment they got for tonight. You walked backed over to the fridge, putting away the container and grabbing one more before heading over to the table. Bo was going to question it before he was cut off by you talking.
“So Vinnie, how do you like Thomas’s mask? He made it himself, isn’t it lovely?” You bosted.
Vincent studied Thomas fully for the first time that night, looking over the man’s strange attire. Thomas had dressed up for the evening, wearing his nicest dress shirt and having his hair combed properly. Vincent noticed a bracelet peaking out from his left wrist, noting that it looked like your work. He took his time admiring the mask, deciding it was sloppy, but interesting.
“I suppose.” He signed lazily.
You weren’t satisfied with his answer.
“Well maybe after dinner you can show him your workshop, you guys can share techniques. Tommy’s signing has gotten much better recently, so you guys should be able to chat no problem.”
Thomas was glad his mask was covering his blush. He wasn’t used to hearing such high praise of him. Vincent simply nodded, realising it was a request and not one he should refuse.
“What’s it made out of?” Lester asked curiously.
You saw Thomas stiffen, and you bit back a giggle.
“It’s ok baby, you can tell em. They’re not gonna judge.” You soothed.
“People.” Thomas signed honestly.
Your three brothers looked taken aback by this. Lester seemed confused, thinking maybe he misread the sign. Vincent looked contemplative, like he was trying to understand Thomas’s artistic vision and why he would choose such a medium. And Bo starred widely, looking between you too. He tried his best to hold back his comment, but couldn’t resist.
“Pardon?” He asked.
The boys had already started preparing their plates while you were conversing, and it was just now they noticed that you where emptying the contents of the container onto Thomas’s plate and that he hadn’t touched any of the prepared food. Bo’s eye twitched slightly at this.
“Oh come on Bo. You had to accept that I wouldn’t end up with someone completely normal right?”
“Did you really have to go with the creepy guy who makes skin masks? Come on, I knew you were stupid but I thought maybe you’d maintain a shred of common sense when I let you leave this house.”
“Let me leave.” You scoffed. “Bo wether you like it or not I’m grown, I can make my own decisions. Besides don’t act like you can take the moral high ground here, your twin turns people into statues for Christ’s sake.”
You cringed inwardly, realising how disapproving you sounded of Vincent’s passion. You hadn’t meant to, and really you found it amazing how your brother could turn such vile creatures into beautiful pieces of art.
“I didn’t mean that Vinnie” you stuttered softly.
Bo took no care in your apology to you brother, just drilling in his dislike for you boyfriend further.
“And what is he too good to eat the food I spent all day preparing?” He seethed.
“It’s not like that Bo.” You tried to calm him.
“Than what is it like?”
He was looking right at Thomas now, almost challenging him. You unbeknownst to your brothers rested your hand on Thomas’s leg under the table in reassurance.
“Can’t eat. Special food.” He signed.
“Can’t even speak in full sentences? Great job picking the Spaz, guess you two are perfect for each other seeing as you’re both retarded.”
Thomas was shaking next to you, trying his best to behave and obviously having his PTSD activated, as he was hoping getting away from Monty and Hoyt meant he wouldn’t have to hear such things anymore. Seeing him like this broke you and that’s when you snapped. Thomas was too your left, but Bo sat to your right at the head of the table, his usual spot. Before you could stop yourself, your knife was slammed into the table.
“Damn it Bo, just can it!” You shouted.
It wasn’t until a couple seconds later you realised you’d actually missed the table, seeing the small pool of blood drip from your brothers hand. You looked horrified, quickly removing your hand from the knife and retracting it into your lap.
“Bo I’m sorry” you said panicked.
Lester starred at you bewildered, realising his sister had clearly changed in her time away. Despite you knowing about your brothers extra curricular activities they had never asked you to participate, and you never intervened. Vincent let out a small growl from across the table, glaring at you, clearly mad and rightfully so.
“Get out.” Bo said.
You were certain he was talking to you but his eyes were trained on Thomas. As your man was about to leave you stopped him, glaring down at your brother as you stood from your seat.
“You know what? No! I don’t even know why I apologised to you, cause you don’t deserve it and I’m certainly not sorry. If anything I should be apologising to Thomas, I knew you all were animals yet I brought him into the lions den anyways. Come one love, we’re leaving.”
You grabbed Thomas’s hand and made a break for the door. A whirring sound haunted your footsteps, you paused as your dinner knife was now embedded in the door frame next to your head.
“You’re not going anywhere with my sister.” Bo growled.
“Thomas, outside.” You simply said.
Thomas had seen you like this before, you’d get this way whenever Hoyt or Monty would pick on him. But he’d never seen you this angry before, and frankly it terrified him. What happened to his ever happy, gentle lover? He listened out of fear he’d make things worse for you, knowing you could handle yourself. Bo had forcefully grabbed your arm by the time Thomas had escaped into the garage. He began to drag you further into the house but you dug your heals into the floor.
“You know what, I’m sick of your protective bullshit! I get it, you’ll only ever see me as that little girl cowering from our farther, but honestly you’re no better than him!”
Bo’s fingernails dug into your skin. Lester watched from the table in fear of his older brother. He’d never seen you this bold before, and he was worried that Bo had finally snapped. Bo hated to admit it but he was the most fragile of the three brothers. He garnered the most trauma and ignored any emotion that crept up inside him. You ripped your hand away from him, shredding the skin on your wrist in the process.
“Im not one of your damn victims that you can boss around and scare Bo. I know you. I know every part of you. And I’m tired of being this fragile doll you all think you have to tip toe around. News flash, you can’t break what’s already broken. Thomas has been nothing but a gentleman to me since the day we met. Fuck he even cried on a way up here you know, he was so damn scared you’d hate him and lured him into a false sense of security. My mistake for thinking my brothers would actually give a shit about how I felt.”
Lester’s hand was now on your shoulder trying to console you, but you shook it off.
“Who cares if he eats people? Who cares if his family is full of vile monsters just like mine? Thomas deserves the world and I’m not gonna let you stop me from giving it to him.” You finished your rant.
That’s when you noticed Thomas had made his way back inside. He was worried with all the yelling, and the fact you hadn’t joined him outside yet. He didn’t want to hurt your brothers but he wasn’t above the thought if they took things too far. When he found you shaking and bleeding surrounded by the three men his heart shattered. Nobody would treat his treasure like this.
“I love him.” You sighed.
Thomas paused. His heart was warm. He’d heard you say those words to him a thousand times, but something about the way you said them now sounded different. You were honest, you heart out for everyone to see. You weren’t just defending you love for him, you were speaking as if it were a fact. Nothing could change how you felt for your Thomas and that thought made him the happiest he’d ever been. Thomas knew in that moment that you belonged to him and nobody else. You were brought out of your thoughts when you heard Thomas grunt from behind you.
Your heart swelled at the sight I front of you. There was the love of your life, down on one knee, professing his undying love for you in front of your brothers. Despite the disaster tonight had been, Thomas wanted nothing more than for you to be happy. You knew this was his way of standing up for himself, he didn’t care what your brothers thought of him, he didn’t care if they despised him, all he wanted was you. Your hand flew over your mouth in shock.
“Baby?” You asked, voice quivering.
“Mine?” He stated.
You stood in shock, the room seemed to freeze. Not once in the three years you’d known him have you ever heard the giant speak. His voice was gruff and sounded pained, but to you it was the sweetest symphony. You wanted to hear him talk again, to hear him say your name, the way his hands spoke his love were nothing in compared to his beautiful voice. Tears began to stream down your face, staining your delicate skin. For the first time that night you had been rendered speechless. You nodded your head slowly, but you didn’t dare move, you were afraid your legs would give out from under you. Lester was the one to bring you down to Earth.
“Go.” He simply stated.
You made your way across the kitchen and threw yourself into Thomas’s arms, nearly knocking over the poor man. You enveloped him in a hug, liken an anaconda constricting it’s pretty, you would never let him go. He picked you up and you let out a squeal. Your light laughter rang through the house and changed the previously dangerous mood that cling to the house.
“Thomas’s” he spoke once more.
You nodded, smiling.
“Thomas’s” you agreed.
You learned your forehead into his and drunk in every sensation he made you feel. Bo cleaned his throat.
“How sweet. If the two of you are gonna have sex don’t do it on my couch” your brother grumbled, walking away.
You laughed. A sound that made Thomas want to do everything in his power to hear the noise again. You this had been your brothers way of giving his blessing. Bo would probably be an ass to Thomas forever, but that’s simply how he was with everyone. Wether he liked it or not, Thomas Hewitt was now family, and you were now part of his. Bo would have to share his little sister with the outside world, which was something he wasn’t ready for, but if it meant seeing you this happy it was something he could handle.
Vincent signed a small congrats, but gave you a look that said “we’ll talk about this later” you knew he was still upset, but he’d get over it. You hadn’t meant to hurt Bo, or any of them, but they had to expect you’d come to be like them some way. You wouldn’t always be the sweet innocent one of the family, you were bond to be corrupted at some point. Vincent was oddly proud of you for stick up for yourself, and against his twin no less. Bo could be terrifying, but Vincent knew the two of you would work this out, forgiving you was inevitable. Nobody had ever stayed mad at you for long and that certainly wasn’t gonna change now. Vincent excused himself, sneaking down into his workshop, to unbeknownst to you work on a gift for the two of you.
Lester stood before you smiling like an idiot. He had Jonsey and Spider next to him, both looking at the situation with excitement.
“Welcome to the family Thomas, fair warning, it’s always like this.”
He snuck away with the pets, leaving Thomas and you alone to celebrate your newfound engagement. Thomas finally took this time to slide the ring onto you small finger. You looked at it like it was the most stunning thing on the planet, the same way he was currently looking at you.
“Thomas Sinclair, I think I like the sound of that” you quipped.
You knew he wouldn’t argue with you about taking your last name. Just like his family was important to him, yours was important to you. Even if you didn’t show it often, you were proud to be a Sinclair. Thomas simply grunted in response, pressing a gentle yet needy kiss to your lips.
“Wanna piss of Bo even more?” You smirked.
Thomas knew what you were insinuating, and while he normally wasn’t interested in such activities, he couldn’t resist you. Most people would look at your relationship and assume Thomas was the dominate, just judging by his size and his aura, but little did they know Thomas was putty in your hands. This man would do nothing short of murder for you, and he carved your praise. Thomas would be your good boy tonight, and any night you wanted him until the two of you were old and dead. His love for you was infinite and he’d make sure to show you everyday for the rest of your life.
Tumblr media
An: Ahhh, I wanted to release this on thanksgiving but I’ve been soo busy. But god do I love this one. Both families are so dysfunctional and I love it. Books with Bisexual Characters
I’ve always been a book lover, and lately I’ve been taking note of some of the bi characters I meet along my journey. I thought I’d share some book recommendations.
First, In Other Lands by Sarah Rees Brennan. I love this book so much—it’s honestly one of my favourites. It features a bisexual protagonist, Elliot Schafer, who goes across a wall into a magical, fantasyland and actively rebels against its war-like ways, choosing to draft treaties instead. He’s a snarky, grumpy, pacifist who has relationships with people of multiple genders throughout the course of the book. This book is super funny. Seriously, it made me laugh out loud on more than occasion. It also features truly phenomenal character development and explores the joys and trials of friendship between Elliot and his two best friends Luke Sunborn (the shy golden boy, born to a warrior family) and Serene-Heart-in-the-Chaos-of-Battle (a bold elf whose society’s gender roles are completely flipped). Shenanigans ensue.
A quote:
“‘Why is language in the Borderlands so weird? Some of it’s modern, and some of it’s medieval, and I guess that makes sense with the influx of a certain amount of new blood to the training camp every year, but how do some words and phrases transfer, while others don’t? Why do you know the word ‘jerk’ and not the word ‘bisexual’?’
‘I guess people say the first word more,’ said Luke.”
Next, The Nevernight Chronicle by Jay Kristoff. This epic three book series features badass bisexual Mia Corvere. It’s dark, bloody and heart-breaking, with an endless series of twists. Mia’s parents were killed during their attempt to start a rebellion and her quest for revenge leads her to join a school for assassins. Follow Mia’s journey as she attempts to bring down the leaders of the Republic with her constant companion, Mister Kindly, the wise-cracking shadow-that-is-shaped-like-a-cat. I loved this series as well. It’s a very different tone from the recommendation above (don’t get attached to your faves!) and it’s marked as adult fantasy (be prepared for sex and violence), so be warned, but wow, is it a wild ride!
Books by Ellen Kushner!!! I recently discovered her and I’m in love. Ellen Kushner herself is bi and has a wife who is also a writer. The two of her books I’ve read so far are Swordspoint (published 1987!) and The Privilege of the Sword. Both are fantasy of manners with bisexual duelists as protagonists. Swordspoint features Richard St Vier, an elite swordsman, as well as his close companion (and lover) Alec, a sarcastic scholar with a mysterious past. The Privilege of the Sword is set in the future of the same world, featuring a young girl named Katherine (who I love with all my heart) as she’s called by her uncle to the city to embark upon a path nontraditional to a lady, that of a swordsman. Both are excellent and super fun!
The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue by Mackenzi Lee. Meet Lord Henry “Monty” Montague as he embarks upon a Grand Tour of Europe (the historical fiction version of a road trip) with his best friend Percy (who he’s hopelessly in love with) and his sister Felicity (who’s ace and has her own follow-up book which I also recommend – the Lady’s Guide to Petticoats and Piracy). Monty is charming, privileged, hilarious and the definition of a disaster bisexual. Follow along as the three of them stumble into hijinks and character development.
Radio Silence by Alice Oseman. Our main girl Frances Janvier is a study machine whose only respite from academics is the fan art she draws for a podcast called Universe City. Then one day, the mysterious narrator asks her if she wants to collaborate. In a relatable turn, Frances is bi, but it’s just a part of her identity and the focus of the book is not a romance. Instead, it’s all about friendship and finding platonic soulmates and figuring out what you want to pursue in life. Alice Oseman’s writing is lovely and she tackles issues that feel very modern and relatable. I’ll also mention her webcomic (which you can find online for free) Heartstopper, which follows the romance between two boys Charlie Spring and Nick Nelson (and includes Nick’s bisexual crisis).
A quote:
“And I’m platonically in love with you.”
“That was literally the boy-girl version of ‘no homo’, but I appreciate the sentiment.”
Red, White & Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston. Speaking of bisexual crises, meet Alex Claremont-Diaz, whose mother is the President of the United States. His long-time rival, Henry, is a prince of England, and after an incident involving an expensive cake, the two are forced to fake a bromance for the sake of international relations. Actual romance blossoms instead.
Kushiel’s Dart by Jacqueline Carey. In the land of Terre d’Ange, the motto is “Love as thou wilt”. Phèdre is a bisexual courtesan who receives pleasure from pain. Another adult fantasy (published 2001!), our heroine trains as a spy and is increasingly entangled in a web of politics and plots.
The Raven Cycle by Maggie Stiefvater. This series is well-known, but I love it! Maggie Stiefvater’s prose is atmospheric, littered with small details that reward a reread, and her character relationships are complex. This series is a gem full of magical realism. Here’s a shout-out to our bisexual boy, Adam Parrish!
Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo. Again, another popular book (part of a duology), but the hype is totally deserved! A diverse crew sets out on an impossible heist. Let’s send some love to two bisexual icons, Jesper Fahey and Nina Zenik!
A quote:
“If only you could talk to girls in equations.”
There was a long silence, and then, eyes trained on the notch they’d created in the link, Wylan said, “Just girls?”
Jesper restrained a grin. “No. Not just girls.”
Those are some of my favourites that I’ve come across so far. Hopefully I’ll find some more! I’m always open to book recommendations, especially those that feature queer ladies :)

Fic: Sweet Tooth
to @golaulau love from your secret santa
Robert knew better than to attempt Christmas shopping on Christmas Eve. Everyone did. Yet here he was, shuffled around with the masses of last minute shoppers getting the last few gifts he needed for his family gathering tomorrow.
If Robert has it his way he’d avoid the whole bloody day altogether, spend it eating a takeaway and drinking the expensive bottle of whisky he got from his boss as a Christmas present. He already had plans for his very hefty Christmas bonus, a nice long vacation somewhere warm and the new Audi he’d been eyeing all year.
Unfortunately, Robert has a sister; the kind that loved you absolutely and for some reason wanted to spend time with her brothers. They’d been getting along better since Katie had left Andy, doing exactly the same dance on his brother’s heart that she’d done to Robert. Nothing brought people together more than shared distain.
So now Andy focused on his two children from a previous relationship, and seemed to understand Robert a lot better, or at least was trying to.
Buying presents for them all was proving a bit of a headache though. Andy had sent him a list of things the kids wanted, all cheap and way less than Robert had been prepared to spend. Robert’s money and Andy’s lack of it was still a sticky point. It hadn’t helped when Robert had paid off the mortgage on the farm after Katie left, knowing his brother was in a bind. Andy thought Robert was throwing his weight around when Robert had just been trying to build a bridge back to who they used to be, before they’d been waring brothers and actual friends.
Plus Robert had a soft spot for Sarah and Jack, his niece and nephew who thought Uncle Rob was pretty great, even when he wasn’t showering them with gifts.
Still, last year this had all been easier when he’d left it all up to his assistant. Except Victoria had made a joke about it during the last Christmas dinner and Robert had gotten offended. It wasn’t that he couldn’t buy presents for people that were meaningful; he just didn’t have time.
So now he was standing in front of the shops with a few bags of items that didn’t seem like the right things and regretting telling Bernice he had it covered this year.
An understated but expensive Tiffany necklace for Victoria (Breakfast At Tiffany’s was her favourite film), a new Chevalier jacket for Andy (just like the one Robert had but in green, he’d noticed Andy admiring his a few months back), the latest gaming system for Jack (with enough games to make his head spin) and a new iPad for Sarah with a hefty gift card attached (the girl loved blaring her music, just like her Uncle Rob.)
So why didn’t he feel done?
He needed caffeine to make it through the rest of the evening, especially if he was going to be mad enough to keep searching for a present he didn’t actually need. This Christmas was going to be the start of a new tradition, all the remaining Sugdens together under one roof. They hadn’t done that since they were kids. Robert remembered after the day of excitement and food sitting around the living room sofa playing Monopoly with Andy while Victoria pretended to be the banker, too young to actually understand the game. No one ever really won, they’d just play until it was time for bed, for once not arguing over who was the better man.
Robert ducked into the first Starbucks he saw, thankful that the line was only halfway across the store. He juggled the bags in his hands, trying to ease the pull of cheap plastic against his wrists. He ended up jostling into the body in front of him.
“You alright, mate?”
Robert had intended to be polite and beg forgiveness from the person who turned around to look at him. He had intended to be apologetic and charming. Then he met a pair of crystal clear blue eyes and his brain short circuited.
“Huh?”
Robert closed his eyes at his own stupidity but opened them to the sound of deep laughter. Those eyes belonged to a stubbled face, broad shoulders and a voice that made Robert’s insides feel like they had collected in a pile at his feet.
“Yeah I know the feeling. Not a fan of crowds myself.”
Robert had absolutely no idea why this man was talking to him and his tongue seemed to be stuck to the roof of his mouth. Robert wondered if he was drooling? He might be drooling. A man this gorgeous needed to walk around with some kind of warning label. Also, say something Sugden, Jesus.
“Sorry about that, it’s bedlam everywhere innit it?”
Good job, ask him a question. Get him to keep talking. That way you can look at his face more. Robert really liked that face.
“Serves us right waiting until the last minute like this. At least someone will be very happy tomorrow.”
Gorgeous Stranger motioned to the bags in Robert’s hand with a jut of his stubbled chin, specifically the bright Tiffany blue one.
“It’s for my sister. I’m single.”
Robert wanted the ground to open up and swallow him whole. Yes, tell Insanely Attractive that you’re single after 30 seconds. Way to keep a cool head. Thankfully before Robert could shove his foot any further into his mouth one of the barista’s shouted “Next!” and Blue Eyes turned away from him.
Instead, he stared at the back of the man, tried to gauge his age. Younger than Robert, but not by much. He wished Touchable Hair wasn’t wearing such a puffy jacket, but it showed off how broad his shoulders were. He looked cool in that whole “I don’t have to try to work at being attractive because I am, I just don’t know how much” kind of way. Robert was more of a “Yeah I look good but when I try I look better” man himself. They didn’t create well fitted suits for no reason and he wasn’t going to squander what God gave him by not enhancing it.
Wonder what Hidden Biceps would look like in a suit? Wonder what he would look like out of a suit? Or in just a tie? Or in…
“Uh, Sir?”
Robert realized he was next in line and had been daydreaming like an idiot.
“Yeah, Grande Peppermint Mocha, extra shot of peppermint, please”
Robert loved anything sweet; it was another addiction along with Calvin Klein boxer briefs, his sisters shepherd’s pie, and his Monty Python’s Flying Circus box set.
He paid for his order and headed to wait for his drink. Wet Dreamwas leaning with his back against the wall, tapping away on his phone. Robert rolled his eyes at the slowed down guitar riff version of Jingle Bells that was being pumped through the sound system.
He only had about three or four more minutes to look his fill before they’d go back to their shopping and on with their lives. They’d never see each other again.
So what would be the harm in offering Look At Those Thighs his number? Robert was usually more self assured than this. Clearly Christmas and the nostalgia was getting to him, taking him back to when he was an insecure boy, not the confident Robert of today. He was dressed nice, leather jacket over his well fitted jeans. His hair was probably perfect and he’d gone to the gym this morning.
If Kissable Mouth turned him down it was his loss than wasn’t it?
Emboldened he stepped forward just as Scruffy Sex On A Stick put the phone to his ear and started talking.
“Yeah, I’ll be home soon. Of course I’ll pick up dinner on be way; God help us if you decided to cook.”
Robert’s stomach sank, Unavailable Dream Man was beaming as he talked on the phone and that could only mean one thing, love. It was punctuated even further by the throaty laugh that spread want through Robert’s entire body.
“Yeah, I love you too. See you soon.”
Seriously Fuckable shoved his phone in his pocket and offered Robert a smile as he reached for the cup the barista put before them on the counter. Robert offered him a tight smile, trying to not show disappointment that this was the end of their epic love story.
He sighed as I Want His Mouth On Me took a large sip of his drink and turned to walk away, until he heard the sputtering and coughing.
“Ugh, what the hell is this?”
Robert looked at the cup, saw his name written on the side and grimaced.
“Sorry mate, I think that was mine.”
Adorable Frown shook his head and looked down at the cup in his hand, finally realizing he’d grabbed the wrong drink and downed Robert’s sugary concoction.
“You actually like this stuff?”
Robert couldn’t help but laugh.
“It’s Chrismassy.”
“So is holly but you don’t see me blending it up and swinging it back.”
Hot And Sarcastic smiled at Robert’s short burst of laughter and dropped the drink into the garbage can beside him.
“Well let me get you another one, because there was something clearly wrong with whatever that was.”
“No, really it’s fine.”
“Look mate, you want to drink this swill, I ain’t gonna stop yah. Let me please, my fault after all.”
Robert opened his mouth to protest again until I Want To Lick Himraised his eyebrow in a seductive challenge that had Robert licking his own lips instead.
“Yeah, okay. Peppermint Mocha, extra shot of peppermint.”
Are Those Eyes Even Real grinned and moved past Robert, going to the head of the line and gesturing slightly before handing the barista more money than it should cost. The barista looked Robert’s way, grinned, writing the order on the cup and passing it over to be made.
Robert was trying to think of something impressive and lasting to say but once again words failed him. Instead, Smells Good Enough To Eat snagged his correct drink off the counter and kept walking, a friendly “Happy Christmas” thrown over his shoulder that sent a shiver down Robert’s spine.
Ugh, Robert hated himself and the world in general as he watched All The Good Ones Are Taken disappear out of sight.
“Sweet Tooth.”
Robert blinked and looked at the barista as she held out a red take away cup towards him.
“Excuse me?”
“Peppermint Mocha with extra peppermint, he said your name was Sweet Tooth.”
Robert smiled at her and took the cup from her hand. She winked at him and turned back to making another drink. It wasn’t until he was out on the street that he looked at the cup more closely and noticed the phone number scribbled on it with a heart and the name Aaron in bold letters.
One Year Later
Robert scrolled through his phone, reading intently the article he’d found about Monopoly strategies. He was going to wipe the floor with Andy this Christmas.
After he’d left Starbucks a year ago, he’d headed to the nearest game store and bought the swankiest version of the game they made. It was pretty expensive but it would last forever, mahogany board and actual silver pieces. There was even a banker drawer which he knew would make Vic happy.
Christmas on Andy’s farm has been tense at first, Andy giving him a tight smile with every excited squeal Sarah and Jack made over the presents Robert gave them. It wasn’t until everyone was done that he pulled out the game, wrapped in gold paper with a giant red bow and placed it in front of Victoria with a flourish.
“So this is a Sugden present; it’s for all of us.”
Victoria had cried when she’d opened it and Andy has just looked at him, a genuine smile on his face and declared he was going to wipe the floor with Robert.
The kids hadn’t been too interested but after dinner the original Sugden kids had played well into the night, Victoria losing early but still willing to hand out money and hold the deeds. They’d finally called it a draw at midnight after too much wine and a lot of laughter.
But for the last few weeks, Andy has been texting him trash talk about the upcoming game and Robert was not going down without a fight.
A slight cough made him raise his head and take in Sexy In A Ridiculous Christmas Jumper as he held out a mug for Robert.
“You are not actually looking up Monopoly strategies online are you?”
Robert took the cup, smiled at the candy cane and whip cream piled out of his hot chocolate that The Best Thing That Ever Happened To Me had made for him.
“Aaron, he’s been winding me up for weeks. It’s a matter of pride now.”
Sweetest Smile just rolled his eyes but sat down on the couch and snuggled into Robert’s side.
“What time do we have to leave to get Liv?”
“Not for another hour yet. But I’m driving, you know what you’re like after…”
He Knows Me So Well waved his hands at the empty chocolate wrappers on the coffee table and the cup of sugar Robert was drinking.
“Only if I get to pick the radio station.”
“Ugh, fine.”
It had taken every ounce of willpower Robert had possessed to wait until after the holidays before he called Hogs All The Covers and asked him out to dinner.
Robert was in love before their appetizers made it to the table.
In the year since, they’d argued over everything under the sun, gone on vacation to Spain, met each other’s families, and were about to celebrate their first Christmas together in the home they shared.
It’d been a wild ride and it wasn’t about to stop anytime soon. Because they had Liv, Kindest Person I Know’s little sister, to pick up from the airport. She was going to be the first guest in their newly redecorated spare room.
Christmas Eve was with the Dingles and Christmas Day was with the Sugdens. Somewhere in between all that Robert was hoping to get a few moments alone with God I Love Him So Much It Hurts, because he had a ring box hidden in their Christmas tree and a question he wanted to ask.
“You’re not going to win the game, you know that right?”
Robert looked at I’m Going To Marry Him in mock horror.
“Aaron, whose side are you on here?”
I Can’t Wait To Spend My Life With You just snuggled in closer and lifted his face to Robert’s
“Mine, because I’m playing this year. I am going to own you, Sugden, just wait and see.”
Robert couldn’t resist tipping his head down and pressing a kiss on those lips before he whispered against them.
“You already do, Aaron. You already do.”

Rules: tag 8 people you want know better or just because you feel like it.
I was tagged by these incredible lovelies: @smittenwithsugden, @robron-til-the-end, @sugarmag78, @flawswelove, @i-want-messed-up-with-you-4-ever, @heartneverliez. Thank you for thinking of me! Especially when I wasn’t around. You don’t even know how much that means to me. <333
Relationship status: single
Favourite colour: yellow for warmth and happiness, followed closely by deep blue and purple for calmness
Last song listened to: This awesome mash up of Ed Sheeran’s Shape of You and A-Wa’s Chabib Galabi (Beloved of My Heart) performed by Tomer Raz (here’s the leading line of Chabib Galabi: “Beloved of my heart and of my eye / tell me, who is it that has turned you against me?” It’s a song originally sung by A-Wa, an Israeli trio of sisters of Yemenite Jewish decent. They sing in Hebrew and in Yemenite Arabic using the style of Yemenite Jews but infused with western dance music, usually while wearing traditional Yemenite clothes)
Last movie watched: Um, well, I was watching Kingsman: The Secret Service on the airplane, but then we landed before I got to see the ending, so I’m not sure it counts. Last *full* feature film I saw was Battle of the Sexes which was pretty awesome. Last documentary film I saw was The Secret Life of Brian, about Monty Python’s controversial movie which happens to be my fave comic film of all times.
Top 3 TV shows: I mean, I’m mainly watching Emmerdale right now, but if we go all time? The Wire is the best TV show I’ve ever seen, and I also really love Black Sails and Six Feet Under (though they have their share of flaws too). But each one of these is just such a good study of human nature in different contexts... Also a shout out to Looking, which is so good at examining male intimacy, specifically through the lens of gay men’s experiences, and In the Flesh, the most perfect use I’ve seen of a zombie metaphor to explore a different sexual orientation.
Top 3 characters: Robron (I love both and I love their togetherness and I refuse to choose just one of the boys), Captain James Flint, Robb and Arya Stark (actually, I love all the Starks, but these two are my faves)
What I’m currently reading: The Holocaust in the eyes of Mahmoud Abbas I tag: I actually have a bunch of people I wanna tag, but probably everyone’s done it already? So here’s just a shout out of love (and a proper tag if you haven’t done it) to all of my friends on Tumblr (and if we ever talked, I probably consider you a friend, so this is aimed at you). Thank you all for making my experience here lovely. <3 And if you’ve done this and I haven’t seen it, please point me in that post’s direction!

The Mom Friend - Jeff Atkins x Reader
Request- "Jeff Atkins imagine where the reader is zach's sister and they all hang out together in a big group for the first time and the reader is The Mom Friend™ and stops them all from doing crazy shit" "Yo Justin throw me another beer?" Your brother called across the room at the already slightly wasted teen boy. He nodded and chucked the can in your direction, causing you to duck. "Watch it, Foley." You warned, giving him dagger eyes. He chuckled and opened what might be his seventh beer. Jess and Justin had spent the majority of the evening so far partaking in intense PDA, they were as drunk as each other and clearly thirsty. Deciding it might be best to move, you went to sit next to Jeff, your boyfriend. He smiled as he saw you approach and squeezed your thigh as you sat next to him. Jeff and you had only been dating for around two months, and this evening was the first you'd spend together with your brother and his friends in one place. You were at Bryce's. He had the nicest place and had decided to invite the few of you round to chill and have a few drinks. Most everyone was drunk, including Jeff, leaving you to Mother everyone and make sure they did nothing too stupid. "You look really fucking good." Slurred Jeff, making you giggle. "You look really fucking drunk." You retorted. You placed your hand over his and ruffled his hair with the other. "Will you come in the pool with me?" He asked, his face that as if he'd had a brilliant idea. "Bad idea, Jeffy boo." You mocked. "Why?" He sounded like a defiant kid. "You're drunk and I can't be doing with you drowning." You rolled your eyes, and placed your head on his shoulder. He sighed but clumsily dragged his fingers through your hair. "I'll get you some bread and water." You decided, jumping up off the sofa to fetch the supplies. ---- You met up with Zach out by the pool, offering him some bread and water. "No thanks, Y/N. Gross." Your drunk brother made vomiting motions and shook his head violently. "Please just one sip." You begged, giving him the puppy dog eyes that always worked so well on him. He rolled his eyes, taking the water from you reluctantly and gulping before handing it back to you. "Now, im going swimming." He pointed his finger up sternly. "No, Zach, you're not." You told him. "Yes!" Countered Zach, before deciding to pull his t shirt over his head. "You going swimming Zach!?" Monty came out of nowhere, ran towards you, pulling his shirt off as well. "No he isn't." You said sternly. "Yes he is." Sulked Zach. You placed the water and bread on the floor by you. You grabbed each boys wrist, turning them to face you. "You're not stepping foot in that water boys, you hear me?" Monty and Zach nodded fearfully. Your stern mothering attitude always worked a treat on them, especially when they were drunk. "Good. Now let's get you inside and clothed. And then you can have some of this." You took charge, motioning towards the bread and water on the floor beside you. Both boys looked disgusted, but abided anyway. ---- About an hour later, after making it round all the boys with bread and water, and then dancing with Jess for what felt like hours, you sat with Monty playing video games. "I'm going to get myself a drink, do you want anything?" You turned to him. "No thanks, Y/N." Monty's eyes were focused on the screen. You wandered toward the kitchen, but stopped in your tracks when you heard voices. There was nothing like a bit of eavesdropping. "Nah man, I gotta tell you something." Your brother Zach's voice drifted out of the room. "Yeah, go ahead." The respondent was Jeff. "Y/N, my sister, you two, I'm so happy." Zach fumbled. "You are?" Jeff was trying to hide the surprise in his voice. "Yeah, man. Y/N has been hurt really fucking bad before, but you're different- I can tell." He breathed, you could tell he was nervous. "You make her so happy, and seeing her happy, makes me happy, I'm so thankful you're in her life." "Trust me, man, I'd never hurt Y/N. she doesn't really like to go into detail but I know previous guys have caused her shit, and I couldn't ever do that to her." Jeff admitted. Your heart fluttered at the conversation between your two favourite boys. "I know, that's why I'm so glad it's you. She means so much to me and I know you'll treat her right." Zach continued. "I haven't told her yet because I still feel like it's early days, and I'm afraid she won't feel the same, but I'm so fucking in love with her, Zach. Y/N is the best thing that's happened to me in such a long time." Jeff's words melted your heart. You had to let him know you felt the same way soon. Damn that boy had you good. You could almost see Zach grinning at Jeff. "I'm so glad you're happy too, dude. You mean a lot to me as well." "Thank you, man. Back at you. I thought to begin with dating your sister might be a bit weird." "Yeah, right-" But you couldn't stand there any longer, so you made a loud entrance into the room. "Hey guys, just getting a drink." You explained, pretending you hadn't just heard their entire conversation. "You want the rest of this, Y/N?" Jeff asked, holding out his beer. You smiled warmly. "Sure." As you took the can from his hand, you placed your other hand on his waist and leaned in to peck a kiss on his lips. "Oooooh Kay," Zach coughed. "I'm going to remove myself from this PDA." He said, moving backwards out of the room, and you could've sworn as you turned, you saw him wink at Jeff out of the corner of his eye. Jeff chuckled. "Poor Zach. Must be weird." You laughed internally at the irony, given you'd just heard the whole thing, but brushed it off. Jeff had sobered considerably since earlier, and you were glad, since it gave you an excuse to make out with him profusely. You leaned in for another peck, and decided to place the beer on the counter behind Jeff, so you could use both hands to cup his face. "Jeff Atkins." You smiled up at him. "Y/N L/N." he smiled back. "I love you." This was the first time either of you had really said it, but after hearing Jeff's confession, you weren't afraid anymore. Jeff was taken aback, but then, you thought maybe his face would crack from the beaming grin that lit up his beautiful features. "I love you too!" He nearly shouted, drawing circles with his hands on your waist. You giggled at the idiot in front of you, and went in for a full kiss. His lips enveloped yours hungrily, both very slightly buzzed from alcohol. You caressed his neck with your hands and he squeezed your waist tightly, making your entire body tingle and causing a gasp to come from your mouth. Jeff chuckled against you, realising he was doing to you exactly what you were doing to him, and finding joy that you had that effect over each other. Jeff moved his hands lower, cupping your ass before lifting you so that you were straddling his waist. He swung round quickly so that he could almost throw you onto the counter behind, you gasped again, neither of you caring that you'd knocked over the beer can. He roughly put his hands behind your knees to pull you closer to him and devour you even more. Your legs either side of him, he stood right up against the counter as close to you as humanly possible and tasted every inch of your mouth. This was something you could never get tired of. "Jeff," you pushed his mouth off you. "I think we're going to have to move this elsewhere." You panted. His chuckles lit up your heart like fairy lights, and the love in his eyes wasn't going to go away anytime soon. "That's probably a good idea, I can't take much longer." He lifted you down off the counter, and you took his hand and led him out into the summerhouse, hoping for some privacy. Your brothers blessing had really made your day, and you could tell it had made Jeff's too.

Movie Nights The Life Of Brian
The second film to come out of our 101 movies poster, was the Monty Python film, Life Of Brian.
Seriously controversial on its release, the film deals with Brian, a regular guy in Judah around the time of Jesus. Due to a serious of misunderstandings, Brian is mistaken for the Messiah. Quickly gaining a massive following wanting to hear his teachings.
Unfortunately after being arrested, he is sentenced to crucifixion. The film ends with him on the cross, and one of his fellow sufferers singing “Always Look On The Bright Side Of Life”! Famously the sailors on HMS Sheffield sang this during the Falklands War whilst awaiting rescue.
Tumblr media
The film has the usual farcical Python jokes, such as a crack suicide squad turning up as Brian is suffering on the cross. Just as Brian thinks they have come to rescue him, they all commit suicide.
Controversy
The film on its release was quickly banned in various places. This included Norway (leading to the sales pitch in Sweden of come and see the film Norway banned). Additionally some councils banned it being shown in the cinema, even though they didn’t have a cinema! I remember the BBC’s Friday Night, Saturday Morning debate. John Cleese and Michael Palin appeared to debate the film with the Bishop Of Southwark. What stood out was the farcical argument put up by the Church side. Especially seeing as they hadn’t even seen the entire film.
Truth be told, this isn’t going to go down as one of our most popular movies. I don’t think the younger generation get the humour of Pythons satire, in fact I think many struggle with the subtlety of satire. To be honest, the older generation find it a bit tired too. It does however have 2 of my favourite comedy lines. Brian’s mother exclaiming to the assembled multitude, that “Brian is not the Messiah, he’s just a very naughty boy”. The other when Brian is on the cross, and Pontius Pilot has agreed to pardon someone called Brian. When the centurions turn up and ask who is Brian, everyone starts shouting I am Brian. This includes one well spoken man who shouts “I am Brian and so is my wife!”
Anyway the next panel has been rubbed off, and the next movie night will see us watching Everest. The true story of 2 groups of climbers caught in a massive storm whilst ascending Everest.
