"Gresca i destrucció, riurem i ens penedirem, el cremarem el dimarts i patirem fins el diumenge."
"Party and destruction, we will laugh and repent, we will set him on fire on Tuesday and we will suffer until next Sunday."
I almost forgot the whole Carnestoltes and Vella Quaresma celebration when it literally goes hand in hand with OAUW themes.
Some context under the threat:
- The Carnestoltes i la Vella Quaresma represent the two extremes of the balance, the excess, "El rei Carnestoltes", and the abstinence, "la Vella Quaresma".
As the story sings: the King Carnestoltes brings party and joy for days, but after a whole week of partying, no sleeping and "sinning", the people find themselves exhausted, with their homes destroyed and no food for the winter.
So Carnestoltes is sentenced to death by the stake on Tuesday and on Wednesday "El dimecres de cendra" (Ash Wednesday) starts the 40 days of penitence (no meat, no eggs...) marked by the seven legs of the Vella Quaresma who loses one every week, ending in Pasqua (the return of Spring).
-The style is inspired by the nostalgia and softness of Pere Torné Esquius illustrations.
Tumblr media
"Venedora de globus" cap els 1907 de Pere Torné i Esquius.
-Also, also, the demons represent the Correfocs, pyrotechnics spectacles made by adults and children dressed as demons throwing fire and spurns around.

WHithes. I've been drawing portraits of WHitches. I love how much the Hourglass Coven hates each other omfg. All the squabbling and in-fighting is SO entertaining.

Been a minute, hasn’t it?
Tumblr media
Figured I’d give a little update on how things have been going for me and the plans I have for the blog :3
I’ve been moving a lot, and hopefully this moving of house will last for a bit longer than the last one. (Third time’s the charm, right?) Steadily, I’ve been practicing my art and trying to get better at it- and I’ve even started to dabble in animation a little bit in my spare time. I’ve even opened commissions again, which I’ll be posting more about over on my PNGTubing account ( @pavluvvsdog ) eventually. I’ve been doing a lot of gaming as well- especially Splatoon and Stardew Valley. And a weird amount of online chess? I blame my partner for that one- I get a good giggle out of seeing them get frustrated when I get us into a stalemate. Payback for them laughing at me for overthinking things the first couple of times we’ve played, I guess.
Due to my working schedule as of recent I haven’t gotten to play D&D as much with my party- but I’ve managed to secure the dates for at least 5 more sessions, and I’m excited to share about the shenanigans we get into once we get into them! Especially now that I’ve finally decided on what I’m going to multiclass my bard into after 5th level. It was a long battle between the Circle of Dreams Druid and the Fey Wanderer, and I’ve decided to go with the latter :3 We’re in Thither, and we’re slowly finding our way to Loomlurch to talk with Skabatha Nightshade as of the last session I played in.
Now, as for what I plan on doing with this blog…… Once I get back into more of a groove with writing, I hope to get posting here more again! I’m shifting away from being a My Hero Academia themed blog specifically, as I’ve fallen out of the fandom to be completely honest. Someday I may return to making content for it, but it’ll take a lot of time catching up. I’m hoping to get into making more OC-related content (especially since I’ve been fleshing out my characters for other things like Splatoon, Stardew Valley, and Danganronpa a bit more) and share about some of the worlds I’ve been working on! I know I have some D&D related stuff that I’m excited to share about once I get the ideas I’ve got really refined.
Anyways, that’s all for now! I look forward to getting back to interacting with and making content for you all again soon :)

You know that saying about how no plan survives player contact? Well my Witchlight players experienced this today.
They were nearing Loomlurch, and since one of them couldn’t make it to the session, they decided to just scout around it and maybe come up with a better plan to free the children than Will’s. All cool, don’t anger the budding redcaps, just wander around the top of the fallen tree and slowly make your way to the garden. I figured this was “morning”, so Skabatha would be in her garden for another hour before she’d head back to the kitchen, but the characters would be able to see and avoid her once they got there.
Then, they stumbled upon the flying rocking horse parked near the door to the Family Tree. The Warlock had the Unicorn Horn, witch they’d bought off Trinket’s, Bauble’s & Charm’s, and they were also the first to notice the indentation in the rocking horse’s head upon me posting the picture. Before anyone could argue against it, they placed the horn into the indentation, instantaneously freeing Elidon from his curse. He was of course super thankful, but they immediately yelled for him to duck and hid him under a blanket, until he promised to meet them again at Wayward Pond and teleported away.
The ruckus they caused alerted Skabatha, who came looking what the commotion was. Two turned invisible (useless because of her True Sight), the rest hid mundanely (including Agdon Longscarf… whom they kidnapped after defeating him and turned into a less and less reluctant companion). So Skabatha comes and sees that her rocking horse has been replaced with the tiny doll version Bavlorna made (which the Ranger had stolen and was now trying to pass off as the real one), as well as the badly hidden invisible Artificer and the Fairy Fighter, who had flown up into the trees, but rolled a Nat1 and immediately started mouthing off against her. She wasn’t having any of that and polymorphed him into a turtle to get him down, then made him drink a concoction to wash out his filthy mouth, that also causes him to only swear in dessert names for the next 8 hours. The Ranger manages to convince her the assassin Zarak (who actually was killed after the fight at Wayward Pond) had made off with her Rocking horse and do some general diplomacy and she, the Fighter and the Artificer walked off with Granny Nightshade to talk in her parlor. Who never spotted the invisible Warlock or Agdon, who was hiding in the pond.
So as the rest parlayed and tried to buy them time, those two broke into Loomlurch, freed the girl in the kitchen without alerting the sleeping dragon wyrmling, broke into Skabatha’s bedroom and stole her entire dollhouse, and finally freed the dwarf Elkhorn and killed the dragon wyrmling as it was running to alert Skabatha. This has now alerted the tin soldiers. I somehow have to bring in the Bard again for next session when his player will be back.
Skabatha Nightshade is having a terrible day and doesn’t even know half of it yet.

Task 8: Alternate Universe ⇒ Dungeons and Dragons
Backstory
Broden is a Reborn, Grave Domain Cleric. Broden was said to be a gift of the Raven Queen, the goddess of death, after he survived a rather traumatic premature birth. Despite the miracle of his survival, this did not stop him from being placed in foster care. It was there that he would eventually meet Logan “Lock” and Saaiqa “Shock”, his psuedo-siblings. The three of them dubbed themselves “The Unholy Trinity”, nicknamed Broden “Barrel”, and ran away from their home to live on the streets.
They learned to adapt to survive. As street urchins, they became masters of thievery and sneaking around. Although there were many close calls, the three of them always had each other’s backs and were able to get away from even the most persistent guard. They were not always the smartest, however. When they got on the wrong side of the local Thieves Guild, it looked like it would be the end for them. However, the leader of the guild--a man named Oz Borror--saw the potential in the trio and decided to take them in as his own.
Now official members (some would argue heirs) of the Thieves Guild, the trio were able to harness their abilities in a way they never had before. Lock and Shock particularly took to magic and rogue-like abilities, but Barrel was never able to keep up. While he had his proficiencies, he started to fall behind them in strength and ability. The only reason they seemed to keep him around was because of his know-how of the healer’s kit. Other than that, they gave him the jobs that no one wanted to do. Not that he ever complained--he was just happy to be included.
One day, they were approached by a rival of their father’s, who beseeched their help in a top secret mission. They were to go to another plane of existence, capture a mysterious creature, and bring it back. The creature was Skabatha Nightshade, a toymaker hag from the magical realm of the Feywild. They agreed, but were of course planning on double crossing the rival to give Skabatha to Oz instead.
At first, it seemed like an easy mission. The rival took them to the portal to the Feywild, and they began their search. However, things took a turn for the worst fast. They were not strong enough to subdue Skabatha, nor her army of Red Caps--small elven-like creatures crazed with bloodlust. The ensuing battle was more than the trio could take. This was especially the case for Barrel, the weakest of them all, who fell to Skabatha’s might. The remaining trio gathered Barrel’s body and retreated back to the world of the Material Plane.
They knew that there were magics capable of bringing a person back from the dead. However, they did not know anyone capable of such powerful necromancy. Heartbroken but determined, the Borror family left Barrel in a secret location and began their journey to find someone who could bring him back to life.
What they did not realize was someone already had their eye on doing just that. When Barrel met the Raven Queen--ready to move his soul to the next plane of existence--he did not regard her with reverence or fear. Instead, he treated her like a long lost friend, chatting her up in a way that few mortals ever would. She was intrigued by him and decided that perhaps it was not his time. And perhaps she could use a Champion to do her bidding on the Material Plane.
One day, in the darkness, Broden opened his eyes. He had no clue how much time had passed, with no memory of his death, nor his life before it. All he had was the name Broden, and the whispers of the Raven Queen, tempting him to do as she commanded. He was able to escape the place he was kept and began a life of adventuring, totally unaware of the family who would one day return to find him disappeared.
Broden now wanders the lands, dipping in and out of various adventuring parties to act as a cleric and support. He’s happy to do whatever is placed in front of him and will rarely turn down an opportunity. Somewhere in the back of his mind are foggy visions of his past life, though he’s not sure what to make of them. He feels like he should be looking for somebody. But in the meantime, he’s fine with his carefree, adventuring life.
Stats
Tumblr media
Proficiencies: Medicine, Religion, Stealth, Sleight of Hand, Healer’s Kit
Feats:
Healer (ability to stabilize and heal even without magic)
Tough (Gains extra hit points with each level)
Fighting Style: For the longest time, Barrel didn’t have a fighting style. He was best utilized as a scout and a healer, told to stay to the side while his siblings did all the fighting. With his rebirth and descent into cleric-dom, things have changed. Broden’s new strategy is to survive so all his allies can too. With his armor, shield, and insane amount of hit points, he can act as someone who either doesn’t get hit or can absorb hits easily. From there, he spends most of his efforts in battle healing, buffing, and protecting others with his grave domain abilities. However, do not be fooled--he has grown tremendously since his days as Barrel. Armed with a war mace, he can land hard hits when needed. This is useful because--as a low wisdom cleric--his magic is not always as strong as it could be. Clutching the holy symbol that he found around his neck upon rebirth, his specialty is necromancy magic, which he has taken a particular interest in.

Time is another important factor in The Wild Beyond the Witchlight and the three hags of the Hourglass Coven at the heart of the story are tied to the concept of past, present, and future. Their kingdoms of Hither, Thither, and Yon also reflect the three sisters’ different manifestations of time. Each of the hags exerts power over their realm—and when they’re displeased, their realm is displeased and things can go awry.
Eldest sister Skabatha, also known as Granny Nightshade, is a recluse who lives mostly in the past. Her dwelling is in an ancient forest. She passes the time by making toys for children and is part toy herself. Woe betides adventurers if the wind-up key sticking out of her back runs down.
Bavlorna Blightstraw, also known as Slack-jawed Lorna, is a toad-like hag who embodies the present. She can create miniature manifestations of herself, which run around her and perform odd tasks. She exists in the here and now and doesn’t dwell on the past or pay much mind to the future. She lives in the swamp settlement of Downfall, among a court of bullywugs.
The third hag is Endelyn Moongrave, also known as Bitter End (“I adore her art,” Chris says, “and hers is a fascinating story”). Endelyn is a prognosticator who can see the future. She lives in a mountaintop theater, where she has plays performed for her amusement. But she also wears a dress that can double as a theater contraption so she can perform plays telling the future of those she meets.

Born Guilty
It doesn't matter what happened, what happens or what will happen, in their eyes, you were born guilty.
The fact that hags aren't born but made, hurts me deeply and I will never sleep again.
Happy Women's Day, keep fighting and shouting, if you don't choose a role for yourself someone else will force you into one.

We had an INSANE Wild Beyond the Witchlight session a couple back. Long story but it cumulated into the Haregon, Bluebell racing around Skabatha Nightshade's frontlawn wearing a unicorn horn on his head to distract her from all the children the other members were saving. Getting chased around by Skabatha like a hawk, talons and all. He almost got her to fall off her ride but not quite. He got away with it too. Even after being polymorphed into a kitten, he managed to hide away in some underbrush.
