So hold me close, better hang on tight Buckle up, baby, it's a bumpy ride We're two kids hitching down the road of life Our world, our fight
-- “Born To Be My Baby,” Bon Jovi (1988) [click here to listen]
North Carolina || February 1989
Jamie frowned, looking back and forth between the shelf he’d just put together and the three unpacked boxes of books (two marked CLAIRE, one marked JAMIE).
Would she like them organized alphabetically by author? Genre? Size?
He rubbed the back of his neck, thinking. Or perhaps she wanted medical books in her workroom? And maybe he could put his music books on the cabinet in his studio –
“There you are.”
He hadn’t heard Claire pad into the room – at some point they would need to get throw rugs to protect the gorgeous old hardwood floors – and smiled as she effortlessly stepped into his embrace.
They held each other for a long moment – his lips against her hair, her face buried in the safety of his neck.
Almost three months since the acoustic tour had ended, the night before Claire’s birthday. About six weeks since they had closed on their dream house, nestled against a mountain in the forests of North Carolina, not too far from The Ridge. And about two weeks since the items in storage – from her packed-up apartment in Boston, and his packed-up house in Los Angeles – had arrived.
The property had everything they needed. Privacy and solitude, of course. An old barn that they were using as a garage for Jamie’s motorcycle and cars. The house – an old cabin, really, dating from the 1800s and which had been lovingly expanded over the years – was perfect. A spacious living room, complete with the original stone fireplace. An eat-in kitchen, with newly replaced appliances. Two small rooms off the back that were now his music studio and her workroom – spaces to pursue their interests. A modestly-sized master bedroom. And a small extra bedroom – which for now was for guests, though God willing would be a nursery very soon.
Claire had insisted on doing two things quickly, before spending their time unpacking all the boxes.
The first was to hang his six gold and two platinum records in his studio – and he agreed, after he had hung her framed medical school diploma on the wall of her workroom.
The second was to install the fax machine on the bare floor of the studio – which, together with the phone, was their only link to the outside world.
For as much as they isolated themselves in this beautiful, peaceful place – the world pushed along without them.
In March, they would leave for L.A. and three weeks of rehearsals with the band. Maybe play a few small gigs in clubs on the Sunset Strip – Jamie had always wanted to do that. And in April, they’d fly to Europe, and kick off the tour that had swelled to 120 dates and stretched into 1990.
Colum was busier than ever – finalizing logistics, negotiating with local promoters, running interference with the suits from the label, upgrading the concerts from arenas to soccer stadiums. He had a conference call with the band every Tuesday – with Ian calling in from Lallybroch in upstate New York, and Angus from various resort spots in Mexico and the Caribbean (“I can’t believe Charlotte and Molly haven’t worn him out yet,” Jamie had mused to Claire one day. She had only shrugged and said, “they take care of each other”). Colum would always have a punchlist of decisions for the band – OK to book studio time during the week off in Scandinavia in July? The roadies couldn’t figure out the pyro setup without the band, OK to wait until rehearsals? They would need to film at least three music videos, which one could be a live performance? – and follow up with decisions in a fax sent later that day.
Jamie had been clear with Colum that he had three conditions for the tour: that Claire would be with him, that Raymond would be traveling with the band, and that the same no alcohol/drugs/groupies rule from the acoustic tour would carry through to this tour. Of course Colum had agreed. Just as he’d agreed to make provisions for Jenny to periodically fly out to visit Ian, and for Angus to always have a suite with two bathrooms to keep his girlfriends happy.
Claire and Jamie knew that this tour would be difficult, for so many different reasons. But they would be better prepared this time, to draw strength from each other, and to have Raymond for support. And maybe, just maybe they would return home from Europe with the best souvenir of all…
“Another fax from Colum,” Claire murmured after a long while.
Jamie snorted against her hair. “I don’t know whether to be impressed or annoyed.”
“I do admire how hard he’s working for you and for the band. And how much he’s keeping all of you in the loop on the decisions he’s making. He doesn’t want any surprises.”
“I’d imagine not. The amount of bullshit he has to be putting up with right now must be insane. I just hope he doesn’t crack.”
“He never said if he’s bringing Tricia on the tour.” Tricia – Colum’s wife of more than ten years. She stood a head taller than her husband, still impossibly beautiful in her late thirties, smiling for every frown on her husband’s face. Claire had only met her once – couldn’t say she really knew her – but she knew enough about her.
How she had first met Colum at a party in 1970, when he was a roadie for Led Zeppelin and she was part of a gaggle of groupies that held court at the Riot House in L.A.
How, when she and her girlfriends joined the Led Zep tour the following summer, he had punched out the lighting guy at the Cow Palace in San Francisco when he heard the guy didn’t understand what Tricia meant by saying “no”.
How Geordie Ash – the reporter who had put Jamie (and, in a way, Claire) on the map last year with that Rolling Stone article – had sent flowers to her hotel room every day for a month during Led Zeppelin’s 1973 U.S. tour. Not knowing, of course, that she was allergic to lilies – or how Colum, who knew more about her by that point than he cared to admit, had wordlessly disposed of them for her, every day that month.
“I don’t think she likes to tour.” Jamie’s thumb traced lazy circles on the skin of Claire’s back. “Too many bad memories.”
If you asked any rock journalist or musician who had found Alex MacGregor – assistant to Led Zeppelin manager Peter Grant – dead in his Seattle hotel room in the spring of 1975, they would all say quite confidently that it had been Colum Laird, who by that point had advanced to lead Zeppelin’s touring crew.
But a handful of people – Peter Grant, and Colum, and Jamie, and now Claire – knew the truth.
Tricia woke up, Alex cold beside her in bed, a needle in his arm. The only thing she knew to do was slip quietly down the hall, tumbling into Colum’s room…and finally, his arms. Where she had remained ever since.
“I couldn’t imagine being away from you for so long.” Claire sighed. “I don’t know how they make it work.”
Jamie shrugged. “They love each other very deeply. They fixed the broken pieces in each other. And now she has the two boys to keep her busy.” He kissed her forehead. “Something for us to aspire to, perhaps. What’s in the fax?”
She held it out for him to read. Sharing a smile at Colum’s scrawl.
J+C: I’m not calling because I interrupted enough moments between you on tour and I’ll probably do it again this year. I don’t have Raymond’s info pls have him get in touch so we have a copy of his credentials and the travel agent can make all arrangements for Europe. I got the label to foot the bill for his travel meals and hotels, convinced them it’s a business expense, you’re welcome. Stay out of trouble. Colum.
“We’ll have him give Colum a call after he arrives this afternoon,” Jamie mused, folding the fax and sliding it into the back pocket of his jeans.
Claire nodded. “The guest room is all ready. And I’m glad Dougal and Gillian and William will be here tomorrow – I’m so happy they’re so close by.”
Jamie squeezed her shoulder, and released her. “As am I. Now, I have a question for you about these books…”

Eggtober 30th 2023
Tumblr media
"Mimicking the Master": Fried Egg on Magenta.
(Clip Studio Paint, Custom 6B Pencil brush. ? Colors. ? Time. A labor of love.)
Made a point of giving @quezify's style a serious try. Eggtober 1st, 2023 was a quick attempt to learn and practice for the most part. This was a combination of directly studying and experimenting. Eggtober 1st was more about "glance at the inspo, notice the vibes, make it your own." This was much more about "pay attention to what these techniques accomplish, try to copy the specific things you like, and then see if you can iterate."
I do still need more practice since I'm not used to this process but for a first, real, non-traced and non-direct study, (as in I wasn't trying to replicate a specific piece one-to-one) this went really well. Not 100% sure what I was going for with some of my choices, but the over-all impact has a lot of what I love about @quezify's style.
3rd Egg I did for the day. Queued for the 30th so I have time to plan the 31st. Not sure what it will be but I'm looking forward to it.
I hope @lady-quen's breadbugs love this stylized eggy!
And even though he's been tagged twice, one more ding for @quezify, inimitable, even while I study that style. The master of eggs. I've loved watching your work all month and I loved taking a crack (pun intended) at actually pegging down what you're doing. You're fucking amazing, Ruben. One last egg for the month! We can do it, bud!
But first, speedpaint.
You can tell I'm really not used to using brushes that are so opaque. I gotta practice doing gradients with opaque brushes like this. Or maybe I need to turn down the opacity on the pencil brush. Or maybe I need to blend my style and Ruben's a bit more?
Whatever it is. I'm somewhere short of where I want to be in terms of a style mimic. Not that I want to steal @quezify's style per se, though it is rad as fuck. More that knowing how it works and what this method of drawing produces is a useful tool to have. After all, half of art is inventing stuff and the other half is aping stuff you like, whether that's real world references or copying from masters. So I might need a little more practice, but the blob-tacular shading and the hatching and the use of shapes as texture are all definitely tools that are going in the tool bag one of these days. XD
Been an honor drawing for everyone. I look forward to next year!

emerald velvet (pedro pascal x gn/m!reader)
Tumblr media
a/n: same vague universe as “marked.” drop a line if you have a sug. (do people not comment on tumblr posts anymore??? rip)
summary: Pedro is ready to tell the world about you.
——————————————————————————————————
There is a world where he comes out, ironically, to Jimmy Fallon. Casually, over a sip of black coffee from a Tonight Show-branded mug. Swallows down the lump in his throat, chokes, in the half second it takes for the audience to react. You can see, in the TV monitor, the shiny glint in his eye as the thundering applause rolls in.
You still can't help but feel like this is your fault. Like maybe you just forced a 47-year-old man onto a blue tweed couch to reveal the secret he'd perfected hiding for decades. It hadn't been an argument, not really. No one was mad. But looking at him now, you couldn't unsee the flash of hurt that had struck him upon your prodding— "would it be so bad?"
So stuck in the tension of the previous night, in his unwillingness to see you in the stupid dressing room before the show, you almost miss what comes next. Definitely missed what came after, couldn't hear over the dull roar in your ears: "He works in the building, actually—"
Pedro is recomposed, smiling on TV like a good actor does, and you're here, crying in your office, several floors above. A few shaky breaths, heels of your hands swiping over your eyes, and then you're down the hallway before you can even register standing up. No one in the SNL offices look twice as you pass; they don't watch Tonight Show tapings, though their host for the week is promoting the show. Amongst other, life-altering things.
You slip through the stage door in Studio 6B easily, standing in the dim cover of the backstage area. The crowd roars again, and it sounds so much louder here. You can feel the force of the applause. Hear the headset call for an act reset, see the blue curtains part, and then—
You're in the air. Cheeks wet, chest pressed against Pedro's as you both gasp for air. One of the crew guys needs to take Pedro's mic pack, and maybe this can wait til you're back in his dressing room, but you can't bear to peel yourself off of him. He, who came out on national television and then, in the same conversation, claimed you as his own. He who slept turned away last night, embittered by the threat of change. But who loves you enough to suffer the consequences, anyways.
You slip quickly back to his dressing room, where you both are swept into separate congratulatory hugs. Claps on the back. A vague, fleeting embarrassment that you're very under-dressed, contrasted against Pedro's velvet emerald suit.
Nothing has ever mattered less.
— — —
You would never tell him this, never admit to it for fear of stoking the hurt and guilt that had gripped him for years. But, you'd been curating an album on your phone: "Pictures I Will Share, When Sharing Is Possible."
They are easy enough to narrow down for Instagram's limit of 10. Harder to post. The first image, you favorite— a picture of him you'd taken on a hike last fall, which also serves as your phone background— taunts you from its little thumbnail.
The caption, at least, is easy enough: "What, did something happen?"
It is 11:29pm EST. In about 20 minutes, give or take a long monologue, your life will change forever.
You hit send, roll over, and fall asleep with your arm slung low on Pedro's waist.
As it should be.

what brushes do you use to drawww, btw your art is so cool i am actively consuming
I use the Procreate app to draw, so I mostly use the base brushes it comes with, aside from a few extras I've downloaded. I've switched around a lot, and I'm still learning and experimenting, so it depends, but here are the ones I've been using most recently:
The main one I've been using for lineart is the Studio Pen, 'cause I like how variable the line width can be. That's the one I used for these:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
These are all pretty much just made with that brush, actually. In that last one I believe I used a different brush for smudging the light layer a bit at the edges, but I'm pretty sure it was just the regular Procreate watercolor paint brush I use. Speaking of the watercolor brush, that's the one I used for these:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In the first one, I did the main color blocks and lineart with the studio pen, then did layers over the top with the watercolor brush to add more color variation and light. In the second picture I was using the procreate watercolor paint brush for the colors, and a brush I downloaded called "Trisketched Ink Brush Rough" for the lines. I like to use that latter brush for looser, sketchy stuff. (It's the one I used for all the Dazai Knitting AU comics!) Ah, and speaking of sketches, I also use the Procreate 6B Pencil whenever I just want to scribble something out, because it's very light and wobbly so I don't worry about neatness when I'm using it.
I use it for initial comic page layout, like this!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Although, I also sometimes use the Studio Pen for that, depending on how I'm feeling. You can see the red underlayer I was drawing the lineart over in this WIP, for example, and I just decided I wanted to use the studio pen for both the undersketch and the lineart.
Tumblr media
Of course, there's other brushes that I've used as well, but these have been my main ones lately. :D If there's anything I've drawn in particular that you'd like more of an explanation of, I'd be happy to go over what I did!

Any tips on how to color and do lines in procreate,
Or any brush recommendations
Tumblr media
I’m a girly who’s loyal to the brushes I love- all of these are built in free in procreate
I always use dry ink for lineart, it’s just solid enough but also textured, also if I spend more time on a piece I like to add some line weight to the curves of a drawing, it’s very appealing to the eye.
Marker layers incredibly well for blood, studio pen is the right shape for putting in your flat color, I use soft brush for blush and shading, and 6B is by far the best pencil option.

Celebrity Crush
Tumblr media
Request: hiiii 🥹 could you write something about jason being asked about his celebrity crush and he says reader (maybe reader is a singer or an actress) and gets flustered by it 🥹🥹
Description: Visiting his friend Jimmy Fallon ahead of hosting SNL, Jason's interview focuses a bit on you, the musical guest for the episode.
Pairing: Jason Sudeikis x celebrity!reader
Word Count: 2.4k
-
Studio 6B erupted into cheers as Jason stepped out from behind the blue curtain, raising a hand up in greeting as he placed the other on his chest in a humbling manner. With a kick in his step, he heads to Jimmy, giving his old friend a hug in front of the desk before sitting down in the first chair. The claps die down as Jason lightly slaps the tops of his thighs, joining the excitement, “Yeah!”
Jimmy lets out a small laugh as Jason waves to the crowd once more before Questlove plays the final entertaining rhythm on his drums, “Jason Sudeikis, everyone!” Jason sends a bright smile to the audience before Jimmy drums a couple of beats on his desk, “So Jason, just visiting the show, right? No exciting plans?”
The crowd laughs though Jason internally rolls his eyes at the cheesiness of the question. Obviously, everyone knows why he’s at Rockefeller, in general, that week, nonetheless on the Tonight Show for the Thursday show. Jason brought his hand up to scratch the side of his face jokingly, “Yeah, there’s something small happening, if I remember correctly. I think it’s this small indie feature or something? I’m not sure, my agent just told me to keep my Saturday open.”
“Oh yeah, that one comedy special thing, right? Weekend Live Show?” Laughter, though mostly artificial Jason suspects, fills the room as Jason nods his head slowly, clasping his hands in his lap. “Something like that, sure.” Jimmy recounts a story from their time together at Saturday Night Live, Jason laughing at the appropriate times though his mind is somewhere else, something that seemed to be happening quite often that week.
“So SNL this week, you’re hosting for the second time and joined by first-time musical guest Y/N L/N.” The crowd cheers loudly at the mere mention of your name, something that makes Jason smile brightly, happy you are getting the recognition and support you so clearly deserve. Nodding excitedly as he turns to Jimmy, Jason’s eyes light up when he sees his friend holding up a picture of him standing in between you and Kenan for one of the promos.
“Are you a fan of Y/N? Like, Jason, I know you, we’re friends, I’ve heard the Ted Lasso soundtracks. I can’t imagine you tend to listen to music like Y/N’s.” Jason chuckles lowly at Jimmy’s question, it’s true, his eclectic taste in music doesn’t typically extend to the modern indie pop you create. “I mean, yeah, I guess my playlists tend to have more of the classics, but her stuff is great. I would definitely consider myself a fan, first I was just listening to her albums while driving my kids around. But then I would be heading home after dropping them off at school and I’d catch myself singing along before I realized I could be listening to whatever I wanted.”
At that, the audience laughs, some nodding their heads in what seemed like agreement, Jason laughing slightly at himself before continuing the conversation, “So yes, I am a fan of her music, though I will say, I know more about her film career than I do her music career.” Jimmy nods in understanding, switching the card in his hand to a poster for your upcoming film Glass Onion, the sequel to Knives Out. “A highly anticipated film for fans of the first one, has Y/N said anything about her first blockbuster film after only previously starring in independent films?”
Jason shakes his head, clearing his throat as he switches which of his legs rests on the other, “We haven’t talked much about either of our careers really other than the usual ‘I love your work’ when first meeting. I can say though,” Jason turns to the main camera, pointing at it with a serious look on his face, “don’t kill me Lorne, the writers’ room told me I could share,” Jimmy erupting into his iconic life as he claps his hands, Jason then turning back to the host as if nothing happened, “Y/N is gracing us with her acting talent in a couple of sketches this week and she is an absolute star. I’m telling you, she should be hosting, not me. I would be happy to let her take over and do both jobs as I watch in the audience.”
The audience laughs before the conversation moves on, talking about Jason’s days on SNL and switching, of course, to Jimmy begging for any season three information as Jason refuses to budge while laughing at his friend. Soon enough, Jimmy throws it to commercial, allowing for the glam squad to come freshen each of them up as the production team shifts things around for the next segment and coming musical performance. As his suit gets lint rolled for the nth time, Jimmy looks at Jason who is talking with his assistant. Not intending to eavesdrop but also not doing his due diligence to give his guest privacy, he overhears the assistant pass a message along from the SNL crew, a message that includes your name in it.
Jimmy’s eyebrow arches and he quirks his head to the side, noticing Jason’s cheeks turn a light red at the mention of your name. Getting a devious idea in his head, Jimmy whips his phone out, typing at lightning speed so he can get all the information possible before they film Jason’s final interview portion.
Jimmy Fallon: Hey, you talk more frequently to JSuds than I do, is he seeing anyone right now?
Seth Meyers: Nope, single. But he’s basically in love with Y/N L/N. He was at my place when his agent told him that she was the musical guest for his episode, he was practically jumping out of his seat.
Jimmy Fallon: That was my guess, thanks.
Seth Meyers: Yeah, sure.
Seth Meyers: Wait, why are you asking me? Aren’t you with him right now for your show? Just ask him.
Seth Meyers: Jimmy, did you use me? I swear to God.
Seth Meyers: Fallon?
Seth Meyers: Oh fuck.
Jimmy pockets his phone as the glam squad rushes backstage, the producer counting them down from ten, “Hey Jason, we’re good friends right?” Turning to him with a confused look on his face, Jason nods apprehensively “…Yes, why?” Jimmy shoos away his question in their last four seconds, “Nothing, just wanted to make sure it was fresh on your mind.”
The Roots performed the intro music as the audience cheered, Jason putting on his best smile and content face as Jimmy welcomed everyone back, though he was truly confused out of his fucking mind. “Welcome back everyone! Now, Jason, everyone probably thinks of us as being on SNL at the same time and while they’re technically true, they’re also wrong.”
Jason nods, though his head was still wrapped in confusion, especially since he thought the show agenda said they’d be talking about his experience directing as compared to acting, not returning to the topic of their alma mater. “You make a good point. We were at the show at the same time, but I was in the writers’ room and you were in the cast. I was featured in a sketch every now and then, but nothing major. My first season as part of the cast was 2005, which I think was the first season without you, right?”
Jimmy leans back in his chair, nodding as a small smirk appears on his face, something that terrifies Jason when paired with the glint in Jimmy’s eyes that he recognized as dangerous, “Yeah, exactly, my last season was 2004. You know who we both worked with a lot, both on camera and in writing?” Jason looks at him with a clearly confused expression, something that makes both the audience and the host laugh, “Um yeah, lots of people Jim. But I’m sure you’re going to tell me who you’re specifically talking about.”
Chuckling as a facade, Jimmy internally prays that this goes over well as, hoping that his friend’s sense of humor prevails over his possible embarrassment, “Well I was texting with Seth, Seth Meyers,” he says pointedly to the crowd who clap, “before the show, and you’ll never guess what he told me.” Jason throws his head back over the top of the chair, dramatically groaning as the audience laughs, “I swear to God Jimmy, if this is a drunk writers’ room story…”
The late-night host laughs as he swats away the suggestion, “No, not at all. He was just telling me about a little crush that you have.” The studio is suddenly filled with “ooo”s as the audience goes wild. Jason turns to his friend, turning red in the face as he shakes his head, biting his inner cheek in disbelief before letting out a dangerously low chuckle, “Oh, did he now?”
Based on the embarrassed man’s response, Jimmy knows he is safe to continue though he lets Jason lead the conversation and how much he wants to share. “He did in fact. He told me about how you were, and I quote, ‘practically jumping out of your chair’ in his living room when this crush was brought up in conversation.” Jason rolls his eyes at the exaggeration, though he is also aware that it may not be too far off from what happened when he got that call, “Okay, I don’t know if I would go that far. Geez, I feel like I’m in high school again.” Turning to the audience, Jason makes a jokingly agitated face, “You spend ten years in this place and suddenly it's like you’re right back in homeroom when you come back for the reunion.”
The audience laughs and while Jimmy knows what he said was fairly accurate, he was not going to let Jason sidestep this conversation. “Meyers has never exaggerated in his entire life, don’t you dare suggest that.” With a statement that false, Jason has to roll his eyes before Jimmy can continue, “It seems your crush is someone we all know, someone I’m sure quite a few people in the audience and many more at home have crushes on as well. Care to share?”
Jason shakes his head as he chuckles, dramatically waving his hands to show his opposition to the suggestion. Not surprisingly though, the studio erupts in cheers, egging Jason on, cheering for the celebrity drama. Jason licks his bottom lip quickly as he looks down at his sneakers, trying to figure out how to nicely reveal that he was practically in love with you (though he would maintain the secret of the severity of his attraction to you, of course).
Taking a deep breath, Jason attempts to steady his racing heartbeat. Was he really about to do this? Why would he admit on international television that he had a fat puppy love crush on you? Sure, the episode was filmed the afternoon before the evening of airing, they could cut it if he asked, but he would be trending on Twitter as soon as the audience had access to their phones again.
It’s not like he was asking for your hand in marriage, just telling Jimmy that he was attracted to you. Worst case scenario, you ignore Jason for the next two days aside from your sketches together, sure, awkwardness would linger in the air, but you’re both professionals. Best case scenario, you tell Jason that he’s hot as fuck, you two have the best sex of your lives, and then live happily ever after, together for the rest of your lives. He admits, maybe the second possibility was more of a fantasy, but it's his mind, he can dream about anything he wants.
Jason looks back up at the audience, who continue to cheer, before glancing to a smiling Jimmy Fallon. He takes one more deep breath, his face turning a darker shade of red before he can even say anything. “Let’s just say, I wouldn’t mind a personal concert from this person instead of just singing along in my car.”
Hearing the reference to the earlier conversation about you, the audience absolutely loses it as they all stand, clapping and cheering. Jimmy lets out a loud laugh, clapping Jason on the shoulder and pointing to him while looking at the camera, “Jason Sudeikis, everyone! Catch him and his favorite musical guest, Y/N L/N, on Saturday Night Live at 11:35 PM!”
Jason is rushed backstage, different crew members complimenting him on his interview as he heads in the direction of his dressing room. He looks to his left to find his assistant joining his walk, passing him his phone as she gives him a nervous smile. Sensing her uneasiness at the possibility of Jason being frustrated with her for Jimmy’s questioning, he sends her a reassuring smile before thanking her for his phone and sending her back to studio 8H where he’d meet her.
He continues the journey to his room, needing to grab his stuff before he can head back to rehearsal and last-minute rewrites ahead of the coming show. Jason chuckles as he unlocks his phone, ignoring all of the texts from his publicist that was watching from the production room, instead opening his messages from Seth.
Seth Meyers: Okay don’t be mad at me.
Seth Meyers: He didn’t tell me he was going to do that.
Seth Meyers: Actually, I don’t know what he did but I KNOW he did something.
Seth Meyers: So yeah, not me. Jimmy. He’s the one that sucks, yeah?
Jason types out his response, pausing to open his door though he doesn’t look up from his phone, instead finishing his text. But before he can press send, he notices the shape of something, or someone, on the room’s couch. Looking up, Jason is shocked, and subsequently incredibly nervous, to find you lounged on the couch, smiling at him. He takes note of the television remote in your hand, the television sitting opposite the couch that he knows was just playing his interview. Jason lets out a nervous chuckle as he tries to figure out what to say, brushing his hair back as he looks at you. Before he can say anything though, you stand up and walk towards him, only about five inches of space between the two of you as you smile brightly up at him, the smile turning into a small smirk.
“Personal concert, huh?”

Which program & brushes do you use I really really liked them 🙈
I use a mix of Procreate and Clip Studio! I mainly use Procreate and use the 6B pencil for lineart and shading ^^

my theory for buddie in 6b (and obviously it could be wrong as much as any other theory lol) was that the writers were setting up a path to canon buddie by the season finale in case the show was cancelled for good, but then backed off (after 6x15 with the graveyard scene) once it seemed pretty likely abc would pick them up and they could go back to more of the slow burn pacing they’d been doing. the network still could’ve been interfering at that point even if they had already decided to cancel it but anyway yeah
i actually don't agree, because they didn't just 'back off' after 6x15—they went completely nuclear with the natalia/marisol stuff in a way that screams nothing but studio interference at that point. they could have just left it as it was in 6x15, but the way the finale went...well. we all remember it. and, no, i actually think the threat of cancellation would have actually made them want to go the buddie route less because i cannot imagine that they thought having them go canon in the last scene of the show or whatever would have been a satisfying ending, because clearly the build-up matters to the writers. i honestly think that somewhere post-6x15, all of their initial plans had to be reworked in one way or the other

Hello! Little question here. Do you use digital or traditional art? If digital, what platform and what brushes? If traditional, what pencils and what sketchbooks? Thanks 😁😁!!
I mostly do digital! I use Procreate for pencils, inks, and simple colour work. 6B and Mercury brushes are my favs. For more complex work and painted pieces I use Clip Studio with Frenden's brush sets.
I don't do as much traditional work anymore, but a lot of tools come down to preference. Just make sure you try some decent brands because spending a little extra on a real hair bristle brush vs a synthetic bristle brush can make a huge difference when doing things like watercolours or inks. I use Staedtler HB pencils and for inking, Hunt 102 nibs (plus a larger one I dont remember the # for) and Dr PH Martin india ink. I got an old set of copic markers for colour pieces, but there's a lot more decent alcohol-based markers out there now. Just make sure to test that they won't make whatever you use to ink bleed.

Tucson || July 1988
AA met every Thursday in a church hall not far from the studio. She’d borrowed Bobby’s Trans Am to drive Jamie, holding his hand the whole way, hearing about his chat with Alec – who had graciously agreed during their January trip to New York to be Jamie’s sponsor.
She kissed him when he went inside. Needing some peace and quiet of her own, in the car, as she waited.
She had tried NA off and on, but it hadn’t really clicked. She was so very happy that AA really worked for Jamie – it was always much easier for him to open up to perfect strangers – and she was grateful that he could get the support he needed, at a moment’s notice, in any city.
Not to mention that the Friends of Bill took the “anonymous” in Alcoholics Anonymous quite seriously – meaning, in those meetings Jamie was just Jamie the alcoholic, not Jamie Fraser the frontman of Print, not the rock star. Just a man who fought daily battles with addiction, who was trying to be better, who just so happened to have the number six record in the country today.
It was hard. It was always going to be hard. But he was worth it. The life they had together was worth it.
She pulled out the folded envelope. Smoothed the creases against the steering wheel. Reading and reading and re-reading the return address.
Listening to Guns N’ Roses and Def Leppard and Poison and Cheap Trick on the radio.
She didn’t see Jamie cross the parking lot. Jumped when he slid into the passenger seat, smiling, with a kiss.
“Hey.”
She offered a tight smile. “Hey. How are you?”
“Much better.”
His gaze found the envelope.
He didn’t need to say anything.
She couldn’t say anything.
But now that he was here, she opened it.
Held out the single sheet of paper.
They read.
Dr. Claire Beauchamp
via Colum Laird, Broch Productions
Dear Dr. Beauchamp,
Thank you for your letter and providing a forwarding address. Three months ago, the BMC board unanimously voted to terminate your employment. For legal reasons we will not provide further details, and the board’s decision is final.
However, we have communicated to the Commonwealth of Massachusetts that your medical license should be restored, with the provision that you no longer practice medicine in any kind of high-stress environment. You may contact the medical board at the below address to request a copy of…
Jamie watched Claire read and re-read and re-read.
“Sweet Child O’ Mine” played softly on the radio.
A long, long moment.
The song shifted to the bridge.
Where do we go now, sweet child? Axl Rose murmured.
Jamie took a breath. “Where do we go now, Claire?” he whispered.
She folded the paper and put it back in the envelope. Laid it on the dash. Reached beneath her shirt to pull the long chain up over her neck. Settled her left hand on Jamie’s thigh, skin hot through his jeans.
Jamie unclasped the chain, letting his grandmother’s engagement ring slide free. He slipped the ring onto her finger. Brought her hand to his lips, kissing so softly.
“I’d like us to have an extra day in Boston when we’re there next week. So that we can pack up my apartment.”
She was looking through the windshield, face turned to him in profile.
“Yes. What else?”
“I’d like a little house in the mountains of North Carolina. Not too far from The Ridge. It’s so beautiful and peaceful there. I’m sure Dougal and Gillian can help us find something.”
Gently he bit her knuckles. “Something small. Kitchen and living room. Bedroom for us. A room I can use for music. And a room for your medicine.”
She nodded. “I’ll transfer my license – I’ve already looked into how to do that. I can file the paperwork when we get to Boston. I don’t know if I want to be in a private practice, or just volunteer in a clinic, or maybe something else. We’ll get settled, and then we’ll decide.”
“We will. I – are you happy, Claire?”
She smiled tightly. “More…relieved. And yes, I’m happy, Jamie. Happy to be free. Happy to be marrying you.”
They sat in silence for a long while. Listening to the final notes of Slash’s guitar. And then the first two minutes of INXS and “New Sensation”.
Memory flared – the last time she heard this song was the one time she’d seen Jamie nude, changing into his leather pants backstage in Orlando, when she’d entered his dressing room without knocking.
She swallowed. “I want the house to have at least one spare bedroom.”
He laced their fingers. “Of course – for guests.”
She flushed. Finally met his eyes.
“Yes. And for children.”
He released a suddenly shaky breath. “Oh, my love. Yes.”
She squeezed his hand. “I’m never taking this ring off again.”
He leaned across the console and kissed her. Kissed her. Kissed her.

Eggtober 1st, 2023
Tumblr media
Ode to @quezify: Fried Egg on Green Background
(Clip Studio Paint, Pencil tool, 11 colors, roughly 1 hour) Gonna make this my thing for every eggtober to start with a fried egg on green. Blood for the blood gods, egg for the egg gods, all that. This is my first time using the pencil tool and you can tell I'm learning with it. There's not a specific 6B pencil tool in CSP, but there are creator-made analogs. This is just the default pencil tool though. Made it a little yellow and very shiny so hopefully that conveys well that it's in the process of frying! Not sure if I'm going to do all my eggs with the pencil tool this year like I did with the gouache brush last year, but we'll see! A good first attempt, I think! Now as is good a time as any to remind everyone that my ask box is open so if anyone wants to see a specific egg, I'm open to requests! A little late out of the gate but still on time! WEEEE! I love Eggtober!

what brushes do you use 👀
The one you see me using for sketching/lining most often is a modified version of the Pencil 6B brush in procreate!
Tumblr media
That fella right there. I changed it so that there woulld be no texture variation based off of the tilt of the pen because I hated it.
Below is the setting before I modified it:

And then here is the setting after modification:

As for colouring and rendering, I use the studio pen, the round brush, and the flat brush ^^

Hey bean!!!! I love your art so so much and your comics fill me with joy!! Would you mind sharing what's your process to make them?
Helllooooooo ty!! Of course!! Tbh it’s pretty loosey goosey and procreate isn’t the greatest program for comic building, but I manage lol. I usually start with the dialogue (my favorite thing to write!) which may initially be written blearily in bed at 3am in my notes app or directly onto the canvas. I usually build scenes based on the dialogue, which I’m sure is obvious in hindsight since most of my comics are just long drawn out arguments LOL. From there, I do a very rough sketch/storyboard to get the idea of the page down and how I want the panels to look, expressions, movement, etc. I’ll use a piece from queening the pawn act 2 part 2 as a simple example:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I primarily use the 6b pencil for these two stages. Very rough!! Then I turn the opacity wayyy down and do a cleaner sketch over the top, nailing down more details and expressions. This is also where I will use pose references if needed and warp the lines if I need to make something bigger/smaller (bc I don’t have vector layers and they will get blurry once I resize lol). I also usually add the dialogue text at this stage so I can refer to it without having to open up and squint at the barely-there storyboard layer lol. (More under cut, I am not known for my brevity)
Now I can do the lineart (studio pen!) and draw the panel boxes (by hand like a loser using the monoline calligraphy brush). I do the panels after the lineart so I know exactly how to size them for the characters and what I might be cutting off. I do the background lineart after so I don’t end up drawing more than I need to outside the boxes.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
You can see at this point I decided to change Guillermo’s position in the first panel, having his arms down rather than up and removing his glasses - the angle of his left hand ended up being very finicky and I decided I wanted to see his expression (and not worry about his glasses immediately reappearing in the next panel lol). I can now add the background, which I either erase around the characters or use a masking layer on (if I have room for more layers lol) Then I start coloring, primarily using a very plain no-pressure paint brush (custom, for to save my wrist) for base colors and then build on patterns from there, changing layers as needed. I add my cheek color at 50% multiply, pop on the dialogue bubbles, and that’s pretty much it!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Very simple shot-reverse-shot scene, but my process is pretty much the same even for more complex stuff like
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I’ll play around a lot with effects and background and lighting if I feel like it or if I feel the scene demands it (like the glasses panel - the Tarantino eyes and the glasses flash add to the dra~ma lol), and one thing I know I need to work on is flow! My instinct is often to expect your eyes to go left to right, down, and left to right again, but it’s really pleasing to have something to follow with your eye -like dialogue boxes. In the above you can see how I warped the panels and the angles of Guillermo’s attack to try to make it more exciting to look at and have a smoother flow. Def better than just two rectangular panels on top of each other, but I could have gone way harder on the angle of impact. Always learning and growing!! I just run out of room so often bc I hate using different canvasses for multiple pages, I feel like I lose the flow if I can’t see them on top of each other lol.
ANYWAY. Long fucking post. If you want to start drawing comics my advice is to Just Do It. The more you do them, the better you’ll get and the more fun you’ll have making them!! I never ever thought I would be the kind of person who does longform fan comics (we love you reapersun), but here I am having a blast lmao. Hope this answers your inquiry even a little bit, I’m afraid I am both long winded and extremely undisciplined!! ❤️❤️
