i think poseidon surrendering the war for percy explains why percy choose the gods' side in the future. because percy actually saw that his father is willing to give up glory for him, and he knows that glory is a big deal for the greeks. that's why despite understanding that luke's argument makes sense to some extent, he's still on the gods' side. his father's side.

Annabeth Chase has probably never gotten used to death being a permanent thing in life. like, the first time ever she saw one of her closest friends die was thalia, and she came back to life a couple years later and became an immortal warrior. then she saw percy, someone who probably meant just as much if not more to annabeth than thalia, die in an explosion. Then, he crashes his own funeral. Then her cousin Magnus dies and so does her friend Leo. She goes to her cousin’s funeral and surprise surprise, guess who’s there: Magnus fricking Chase in almost perfect health. (Ik he isn’t technically alive but eh). Then when Annabeth goes back to chb, she gets news Leo’s alive! So imagine how she must have felt when jason died. No matter how long it wouldve been, some part of her would always think hes coming back, just like with thalia, just like with percy, just like with leo and magnus. She knows he’ll never come back. But she hopes he does.

Annabeth: If I had a nickel for every time I went to a funeral and the supposed deceased showed up, I'd have 2 nickels. Which isn't a lot but it's weird it happened twice.

"how are you?" well did you know that in sea of monsters percy keeps a picture of annabeth on him at all times when she's away for the school year and that she emailed him these pictures from her trip to california with her dad and this kid probably looked through the pictures so much and one day he chose to pick his favorite and download it and (ask sally how to) print it and cut it out and stuck this little picture of annabeth chase in his probably busted up school binder so that sometimes he could take it out and look at it and remember that she exists and is his friend and-

more than anything this show is making me achieve new heights of grover sympathy. imagine being 24 and forced to herd two feral cat 12 year olds on a cross country road trip for an entire week.

After watching this first two episodes of the Percy Jackson Disney+ show, my main takeaway (outside of Percy taking on THREE Ares kids with no training and not even being wet) is that Luke was done so, so well.
The actor EMBODIES him. Even before I saw him acting, one picture was enough to convince me that this man WAS Luke, despite looking nothing like him. His friendship with Percy feels so much stronger. I'm already feeling the devastation from the inevitable betrayal. Just. He's so well done.

One of the relationships that I always think about in PJO is Percy and Rachel’s. Not on a romantic level, but on how they see each other and what the other represents for themselves and how I think they were a kind of escape from their lives .
Like with Percy, Rachel is normal. She’s mortal. She doesn’t have monsters after her, she’s not trying to raze nor save Olympus. She (at the time) isn’t involved in the war.
But, on the contrary, she CAN see through the mist. She’s seen cyclopses and centaurs and furies and hydras. She’s seen not just the Greek world, but the fantastical AND the horrifying. Just like Percy.
She’s removed enough to where talking to her isn’t hard. She’s not pressuring him about a war. But she’s also close enough to where he CAN talk to her if he wants to. She sees what he sees, sometimes before him, and won’t and doesn’t think he’s crazy.
She’s mortal, but he can still relate to her and talk and be a normal teenage boy. Something he can’t do with a lot of people at that point.
For Rachel, Percy might as well be her manic pixie dream boy. He came crashing into her life swinging a sword and proving to her she’s not crazy. Confirming all her suspicions and confusions.
He’s an escape from her dull reality, he’s got monsters and mythical creatures. He’s the son of a Greek GOD. He’s fun and new and fantastical and so colorful compared to what she goes home to.
But even with all these things, he’s still just a teenager, like her. He’s fantastical but also normal. He slays gorgons but still has to study for algebra. He’s on crazy adventures during the summer but still comes home to summer reading and packets that they both don’t do. She can escape her reality into his but they can still come back to the one they both know.
Percy takes Rachel on fun adventures into labyrinths and Rachel takes Percy on summer vacations. I don’t think they truly liked each other (on a romantic level), i just think they were what they needed at the time.
The look into each others lives with rose colored glasses, a little envious of what the other has. Because they’re both at a point were they’ll take neglectful hardass parents or a war over what they gave going on at home.

imagine percy and annabeth's last couple of days at camp half-blood. imagine on the second to last day, they spend the entire time helping each other clean out their bunks and pack their belongings in their suitcases while the other campers go about their day. imagine the couple eating dinner with the campers and then heading to bed at bedtime only to sneak off to the lake later that night and cuddle in an underwater bubble for a while. imagine them sharing a kiss and a quiet 'i love you' as they sneak back into their respective cabins (all of the big three kids sleep in percy's cabin that night, so they definitely tease percy, and athena cabin definitely teases annabeth). imagine the following morning when the couple wakes up and joins the camp for breakfast, they sit at their respective tables (all of big three kids sit at a table together so percy doesn't sit alone like he did when he first joined). imagine the couple going about their day: percy teaching the younger campers the sword-fighting moves that saved his life; annabeth teaching the younger campers that they always have a family at camp. imagine chiron looking upon the two as his best soldiers and trying very hard not to break down at the thought of them leaving. imagine the couple joining the bonfire for a little while before grabbing their suitcases out of cabins 3&6 and crossing the border as camp half-blood wishes them luck out in the real world. imagine it all being extremely bittersweet, but they all know the couple will be back next summer.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone talk about the parallels between Annabeth and Magnus’ parents. Like the goddess of war strategy and the god of peace? Greek virgin goddess and Norse god of male fertility? Literally Annabeth and Magnus should oppose each other on paper but in reality they’re the only Chases NOT doing that.
