earlier in my script (which is not Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar), Antony refers to Dolabella as one of his ‘dogs of war’ when talking to Cassius (which IS a reference to Shakespeare’s JC), and it comes back around after Cicero writes to Cassius and informs him of Trebonius’ fate

While these things were taking place at Rome, Cassius and Brutus were collecting troops and money, and Trebonius, governor of the province of Asia, was fortifying his towns for them. [...] Trebonius, who was captured in bed, told his captors to lead the way to Dolabella, saying that he was willing to follow them. One of the centurions answered him facetiously, "Go where you please, but you must leave your head behind here, for we are ordered to bring your head, not yourself." With these words the centurion immediately cut off his head, and early in the morning Dolabella ordered it to be displayed on the praetor's chair where Trebonius was accustomed to transact public business. Since Trebonius had participated in the murder of Caesar by detaining Antony in conversation at the door of the Senate-house while the others killed him, the soldiers and camp-followers fell upon the rest of his body with fury and treated it with every kind of indignity. They rolled his head from one to another in sport along the city pavements like a ball till it was completely crushed. This was the first of the murderers who received the meed of his crime, and thus vengeance overtook him.

Reading The High Republic means I get to learn new Togruta things:

Their handshake is clasping each other’s wrists, as opposed to the normal handshaking or even the Mando version of clasping each other’s arms.

Their head of state is their Queen, who’s formally known as the Most High Regasa and Supreme Huntress of the United Tribes. She’s known as sovereign of the Togruta government, and is also the planetary leader of Shili. Very powerful. Very cool.

Like all new languages, the first thing I learned about Togruti is a swear word, which shouldn’t be as funny as it should, but I was snickering when the Captain of the Royal Guard basically cussed out the enemy and called them a bunch of fuckers.

I’m back on my Dagan Gera was such an interesting concept bullshit and being sad that he didn’t have some kind of reluctant return to the light in the face of Cal’s dying optimism and help them reach Tanalorr after Bode’s betrayal. 

And being sad that Dagan and Cere didn’t get to meet. I feel like they could bond over trying to rebuild jedi knowledge for an archive on Tanalorr. Or that she could give him understanding after her own fall. 

Also wishing that the Dagan and Rayvis backstory was given some time and attention rather than the little hints. Maybe some grief for Rayvis.

the star wars high republic book into the dark by claudia gray introduces a navigator on a ship that is, in fact, a faceless, formless giant slab of rock called geode. in close third person narration of other characters we never see the rock do anything, yet characters reference this character in conversations as being an excellent navigator, party animal, knowledgeable about the coruscant black market. as in, one character will say out loud "geode, you know about the black market, right? and the narration will follow that with "geode's knowing look answered the question easily", and then juxtapose that with an outside observer saying in his internal thoughts "how is a rock a navigator. it's a rock. it's just sitting there. I said hello to a rock like a chump because the ship captain told me to. what is going on."

googling this shows the star wars reddit bros hate this with a burning fiery passion and think the entire high republic project should be cancelled with a begging apology, because they hate fun and whimsy
