The psych ward was hell for so many different reasons (most of the staff hated Mad people, the food was mostly inedible, it was a glorified prison, ect) but one of the worst parts for me was how inaccessible it was as a physically disabled person.
I wasn't allowed to have my cane or my earplugs (both of which I need), I was "required" to shower daily or get marked as "noncompliant" even though I have severe pain issues that make that near impossible, walking was a constant requirement because not only were there "meetings" and "classes" that you attended or got marked "noncompliant" but if you needed water or I dunno help you had to walk to the front desk and ask. You also had to walk to the nurse's desk and stand in line to get medicine or get marked as "noncompliant" because she sure as hell wasn't going to bring it to you.
I was constantly getting both my glasses and my sunglasses taken from me by people who did not believe I needed them and the chairs were all hard plastic that did not work well with a broken body.
They also did not keep food allergies in mind and lactose intolerance also did not count as an allergy so that was hell too.
I have chronic migraines but "wasn't allowed" to take any medicine for it unless I wanted one ibuprofen. There were also windows everywhere and no curtains which went beautifully with super bright lights, so I never ever felt like I wasn't dying from a migraine and general light sensitivity. There were no quiet rooms, no dark rooms, nothing but light and loud. I was also taken off all my pain meds for over a day because they "weren't sure" if I "actually needed them" and I was taken off my heart medicine repeatedly because they really just thought I was too young for that.
I was given a walker instead of my cane, which does not work the same, and doctors constantly kept trying to take it away because "you don't really need that, do you?". There was often not enough space in certain areas for my walker which made me extra vulnerable because when I was being harassed by people, I couldn't just walk away and staff was pretty much useless.
Not to mention, we were "encouraged" to wake up at five in the morning every day and if we didn't, it would get written down, which is wild because my pain meds require I get a certain amount of sleep or they fuck me up.
It would've been hell even if I wasn't physically disabled but I am and all I could think the whole time was about people who had worse physical disabilities than me and needed more support and accessibility and how they would get or did get treated in places like this. There was almost no consideration all the time and staff was actively hostile over it.
A bunch of psych wards refused me as a patient because my files show I'm physically disabled. What are we supposed to do? Where the fuck do they think we can go?

Let’s Gooooooo.
STEVEN!
This bucket of sunshine isn’t so innocent as people keep proclaiming. Sure, comics Steven isn’t a fan of violence, but he knows how to throw a punch as much as the other two. Perhaps a bit more refined in his fighting than Marc and Jake, but he knows how to wear the cowl.
Comic Steven aside, let’s have a look at everyone’s favorite MCU big eyed derpy smile heart and soul. I cannot stand the babyfiers. “Little sweet baby girl meow meow.” Sure. terms of endearment. Why not. Whatever gets your rocks off I guess.
But he is so much more. He is wicked smart. He is observant. He picks things up that peak his interest or that he finds useful and he runs with them.
He is Marc’s emotional and spiritual protector. Who knows how long he has been pulling Marc out of strange situations. Talking his way out of bad situations.
There’s contention on who was driving the body when Marc was fighting the Arab gang. The first switch when Marc finds himself in the taxi cab, I believe that was Steven. Steven wanted to go home. He didn’t understand why they were there because Marc did not communicate. He thought Marc was a violent loving murderer and if he could get Marc away from all this, then no one would get violently murdered.
But where did we leave Marc in that fight? Holding a knife to a man’s neck. When Steven took over, he had to backtrack. He would have had to assure three guys that wanted to kill him that “Nawh, it’s alright Mate. Just a misunderstanding.”
When Marc meets back up with them, they are confused. A man that just ran them down and tried to kill them suddenly changed his mind. “You let us go.” What an interesting phrase. Steven “Let them go”.
I like to imagine Steven smiled, helped them back up, straightened their ruffled collars, all while apologizing and muttering about how horrid all this was. I’d probably look confused and a little afraid too. What power play is this?
The thing is, Steven casually walked away from that and got in a taxi with directions to go to the airport. He is in a foreign country and does not speak the language. I don’t know about you, but I’d be absolutely terrified. I have a hard enough time dealing with being lost in my own country.
Steven screams and cries and is afraid of a lot of things. He’s easily stressed, but he knows how to handle himself. He gets them through those things with CONVICTION. Scary dead bird god chasing him down the hall demanding that he give back the bag? Steven clutches the bad tighter and RUNS.
He’s just been kidnapped by a group that he has seen murder someone and that has tried to murder him more than once, and he is ready to talk his way out of it. He listens to their side patiently. He thinks it all over.
He assesses how much immediate danger he is in and takes the needed approach to survive. If he listens to Harrow, Harrow won’t kill him right away. So he listens. Harrow acts friendly towards him so he can relax a little and look around. What information is supplied and what information can he pick up by just observing? Steven soaks it all in and picks out the pieces that he can use.
When Harrow emotionally attacks Marc, Steven steps up. He pokes holes in Harrow’s arguments and takes his own stand. He isn’t afraid to question things. He isn’t afraid to voice where he finds them morally reprehensible.
If given the chance, he would have argued with them for hours. If he thought it would change the mind of one person there, he would have sat down and talked to them for days.
When it comes to fighting, Steven is hesitant at first. He isn’t used to it and probably has never needed to fight before, thanks to Marc. He’s seen people fight. He’s seen people box and probably even read a little about it at some point. He mimics what he thinks a fighter would look like and throws his first punch.
The thing about Steven is that he is easy to build up. His punch lands and he gains faith in himself so easily because he is HOPE. He’s got this. On the boat he knows he can save Marc and he does.
In the final battle, Marc opens conversation with Steven and when he fights, I believe Marc is in there acting as cheerleader and calling out moves to guide him. “Throw it! I’ll be there to catch it!” and he is. Steven learns so quickly and has his own ideas and you see how his fighting style not only blends with Marc’s, but turns into a graceful and calculated dance. He sees what Marc might miss and he acts. He knows he can’t fly but if someone is on his cape, he can take it off and Marc will be there to catch him again.
Steven is about trust. Never once does he think Layla can’t do something because he has to protect her. He sees immediately that Layla knows what she is doing and can handle herself. He trusts that she can help him get out of a situation if it overwhelms him.
When he understands Marc, he trusts that Marc will make the right call. In the final scene with Harrow, Steven stays out of the way. He doesn’t step in and plead with Marc not to kill him. This is Marc’s call.
What gives Steven that innocent charm is that he is so filled with the desire to do good. To be noticed. To connect. He is starved for attention and love. He is a lonely man who wants love. His whole life has been about not seeing the bad. Not seeing when people are cruel to him. Marc designed their childhood so that Steven would never see the horrible moments.
But where did that leave Steven? It made Steven look harder at everything else. It made him able to spot when things weren’t fair. It made him stand up against injustice and cruel people. He puts up with Donna’s treatment, but that is part of keeping his job. He is constantly talking back to her. He is voicing his opinion at every opportunity.
“You weren’t meant to see that.” But Marc is short sighted. Steven sees everything else. Steven understands when people are overlooking him. When people write him off. He knows that sometimes he tries too hard and makes people uncomfortable, but he is going to keep trying. He wants to get things right and he wants people to understand him.
He is Autistic and struggles with interaction, but that doesn’t stop him from seeking it out. He is excited to share what he knows. He wants other people to be excited with him. He wants to connect to someone and just talk about his special interests with them.
The first time someone truly sees Steven is Layla when he is building the star map. It catches him off guard so much that he practically has to reboot and dives right into something he understands and can talk about. When she doesn’t reject him or push him away, his desire to connect focuses on her so much that she could be his special interest. Seeing her smile, making her happy, just staring at her. And she lets him (I’ll post about Layla and her love language later, don’t you worry). This is absolutely what Steven needs to further build his confidence and let him know that he is doing the right thing.
The next time someone really sees Steven is on the boat when Steven rushes in and saves Marc. Marc originally told Steven to hide and Steven instead protected him. Steven has been given his place now. His ability to connect with Marc makes him that much stronger. Someone that can understand him. Someone that he can finally just exist with.
Moon Knight is about being SEEN. But what does that mean for Steven? It means being seen for who you are. What you are capable of. Not just being put in the corner because you are a cute little precious that needs protection. But about being seen for your own strengths! Give Steven the acknowledgement he deserves. See Steven for the absolute unit that he is.

i love the utter absurdity of yoko taro's mind so much like only he only would come up with an entire world where androids wear sexy outfits and question their existence and purpose in a post apocalyptic world where mankind has gone extinct all of which comes from one of the many endings in a game he made years prior where a girl trying to die gets infected by a life ending sentient flower which tries to eradicate mankind by splitting her consciousness into 5 separate female goddesses to which she takes it upon herself to kill them all. oh right. before she dies one of her 'sisters' makes a twin male clone of herself who she canonically fucks. the male twin goes on to start a cult and his descendants become the main antagonists who eventually end up opening a portal to a different dimension (modern day tokyo) and ends up infecting our world with a life ending plague called the black scrawl which then puts into motion tragedy stacked on tragedy and mankind's eventual extinction

Oc thoughts are taking over my brain, like no joystick you can't do that. No barks you can't push Skunker off something, no barks stop hitting storm whenever he hits you, no storm stop screaming for Rex whenever barks retaliates, no glowstick you can't put glowstick juice in Bear's caf, no tragedy you can't put salt in Ryder's tea, no Irais you can't beat up your problems with a frying pan.

It's been a few years since I've actively developed it, so here's a collection of all the mechanics in Goblin Puncher as best as I can remember them:
1. Combat. You fight, if you win you get fame and to increase one of your core four stats.
2. Fame You gain fame by winning combat or writing books. Fame rewards for combats can be increased via quests and audience members.
3. Weapons. If you encounter an enemy holding a weapon and you defeat them, you can pick up the weapon. There are three holsters, one for light, one for medium, and one for heavy. At any time you can carry one weapon per holster.
If you are carrying a weapon, you can spend a turn at the start of combat drawing it, allowing you to enhance your attack.
Light weapons use the speed stat as the base attack. Medium weapons use Accuracy. Heavy weapons use Strength.
All weapons can be thrown for exponentially more damage than they can do when used traditionally. Throwing a weapon has a change to miss entirely and leave your weapon on the floor requiring a turn to pick back up or hit but get stuck in the enemy, meaning you will not be able to retrieve it unless you successfully win the combat.
4. Children After winning your first combat, you'll have enough fame to "Start a Family". This generates a new set of stats based on yours. The game makes a luck roll (luck is not a stat, but the hidden morality stat does factor into luck rolls). If the roll is a success, your child will have stats that are higher than yours where when you started the family. You can tell this because the text "[Child] is running around happily" will be used to describe them. If you fail the roll, they will have lower stats than you.
It is almost impossible to fail the roll at the start of the game, and failure only becomes regular as moral choices are made throughout the run.
Children can be given up for adoption, which counts as a bad moral act (in the world of the game, not in real life). This simply allows you to generate a new child, and is best done if it has been a long time since you last generated one.
Children can be sacrificed at an altar to add their stats to yours. This is the worst moral act you can do in the game, and all luck rolls will almost certainly fail after this is done.
If you die in a combat and you have a child, you can continue your run as that child. Morality is reset, but fame is not.
5. Magic If you gain enough fame to build a Taco Spell, you can buy magic spells. Magic spells are only usable in combat and aid you in various ways. The elemental magic spells interact with the materials that enemies are made out of.
The fire spell will turn some materials molten, making them take extra damage from normal attacks.
The electric spells can electrify certain materials causing them to do damage to you if you attack them normally. Electric spells do more damage if it is storming. It cannot be storming inside.
Electric and fire spells can both ignite certain enemy materials, doing additional damage over time to them.
With another spell you can summon audience members to increase your fame gain for the combat.
With yet another, you can throw audience members at your enemy doing damage, this has a morality cost.
You can summon a storm with another spell, and with the final one you can remove the roof of an indoor area making it an outdoor area (and thus able to have weather effects)
6. Confession. If you build a church, you can set your moral score back to zero by sacrificing your highest stat. Doing so will re-roll it as if you were a level once character.
7. Epic monsters You have a change to encounter epic enemies. Denoted by the purple text in their names. These enemies have stats that are exponentially higher than the player and can only be defeated with usage of weapons or magic to multiply attack damage. These enemies will have histories generated about them that can be read in the family history.
8. Epic pigs There is a chance to encounter an epic pig. This is denoted by the orange text displaying their name. They have the highest stats in the game and can be defeated with late game characters, but are generally best avoided.
9. Novel writing. Starting a game, having a child, putting a child up for adoption, sacrificing a child, and encountering an epic monster or pig, all save to the games journal and grant a secondary currency of inspiration. By building a writing desk the player character can spend this inspiration to write novels about items in the journal. Writing a novel allows the character to increase one of the four novel writing stats. When a novel is written these stats are used to determine the review scores, the average of which is given to the player in fame.
10. Questing By building a questing quarry, the player can visit it to be given a quest. Only one quest can be given at a time, and a new quest cannot be obtained until the current one is finished.
Having a quest active will create a chance for an enemy to spawn who is the goal of the quest. Once enough enemies are defeated the quest will grant fame in proportion to the number of enemies needed to fulfill the quest.
11. Weather During combat a hidden third turn is always applied. In this third turn the world state is calculated. If it is raining, fires can be put out. If it is windy fires can spread. If it is storming lightning can strike either participant in the combat.
Weather cannot happen in arenas that are considered indoors.
12. Audience members. Audience members can sometimes spawn in combat arenas. Each audience member adds a single point of fame to the total if the combat is one.
---
And that's all I can remember, but still. I had forgotten how much there was to it for a game that only gives you a few options to start. If you are unfamiliar with what I’m talking about feel free to play here: https://stephkennedy.dev/experiments/gpx_mobile/
