o futuro se mostra promissor quando menos se espera. ao menos, era assim que naveen e tiana gostavam de pensar quando a mulher deu à luz a pequena e delicada filha do casal, zarina. olhos grandes, agitada e chorona. nas primeiras semanas fora quase impossível dormir com tamanha atenção que a bebê demandava do jovem casal. porém, tiana precisava voltar para o seu restaurante e naveen ficou responsável por cuidar da filha. talvez nem mesmo o melhor adivinhador pudesse prever o que aquele tempo entre pai e filha poderia acarretar futuramente. o jovem pai levava sua filha para todos os lugares, mesmo que ela demandasse atenção extrema, fora naqueles anos que a sua paixão pela música começou a se desenvolver. começou pelo violão, passando ao piano e, por fim, a guitarra. naveen tinha a péssima mania de não negar nenhum pedido de zarina, fosse o que ela quisesse. o que por um bom tempo, permitiu que a filha não sentisse a falta de sua mãe, sempre envolvida em manter o restaurante de pé e fazendo o possível com o que recebia.

porém, ao passo que fora envelhecendo e compreendendo algumas coisas, percebeu que o clima dentro de casa era um pouco mais delicado. somente tiana trazia dinheiro para o sustento dos três, enquanto naveen se encarregava quase sempre de estar envolvido em alguma farra. e o pior, a levando junto - como podia ser tão irresponsável? aos poucos, o pequeno mundo de zarina ficou ainda menor, vendo a mãe como uma vilã de uma história que não existia. com o casamento definhando aos poucos, porém, tornando-se insustentável aquela situação, em um ato impensado de naveen, ele juntou suas coisas e de sua filha e saiu de casa. naquele momento, a filha não entendeu o que aconteceu. estava tão acostumada a ver tiana, mesmo que somente a noite, que começou a fazer perguntas. naveen, perdido entre seus conflitos, também começou a negligenciá-la, tornando a adaptação um processo doloroso e fatídico para a jovem.

em uma noite sem lua nenhuma no céu, a noite estava escura e misteriosa. enquanto toda a escuridão envolvia o ambiente, um inquietante silêncio parecia prenunciar a iminente transformação. seu corpo doía, como se todos seus ossos estivessem se quebrando e realocando de lugar. com os olhos apreensivos, zari sentia uma onda diferente de energia correr em suas entranhas, a corroendo. como se fosse um veneno. a metamorfose foi assustadora e dolorosa. escamadas suaves e iridescentes emergiram de sua pele, enquanto seus membros se contorciam e se transformavam em uma cauda sinuosa. o coração batia acelerado e as mãos tremiam diante da visão daquela nova forma que a consumia. a sensação de estranhamento e desespero invadiu sua mente, mas ela lutou para encontrar alguma esperança em meio ao caos. ali, conheceu o verdadeiro significado de sua maldição e percebeu que haveriam sacrifícios para desvendar os segredos por trás da metamorfose indesejada.

o tempo passou a ser seu melhor e pior amigo. enquanto utilizava as horas disponíveis entre trabalhar em alguns bicos que conseguia para que nem ela e o pai morressem de fome, começou a tentar compreender o porquê da transformação de víbora. pesquisas extensas, conversa com seres nunca antes vistos - tudo com apenas treze anos. seu maior medo era que as pessoas descobrissem aquele segredo, principalmente naveen. porém, nem tudo pode ser escondido para sempre. em um dos seus descontroles de raiva e brigas com o pai, em um passe de mágica, estava ali sua outra forma. naveen, consumido pelo medo, se afastou de zarina. era complicado para entender como ela podia se transformar em algo tão medonho. quando retornou sua forma humana, ele prometeu que fariam de tudo para que quebrassem a maldição. mas nem toda a busca do mundo foi suficiente. pelo visto, estava fadada a sempre se tornar um animal.

começou a ficar ainda mais reclusa, com medo do que pudesse acontecer. seus ouvidos agora captavam facilmente as coisas que os outros diziam sobre seu pai e não queria mais um motivo para serem assunto. nunca demonstrou vontade de ir atrás de sua mãe, visto que aparentemente a mesma não tinha também nenhum interesse em ter a filha de volta. haviam coisas mais importantes para lidar. seus pensamentos a consumiam de todo modo e o único jeito que conseguia os abafar era através da música. cada vez mais assumia afazeres que pudessem ajudar a descontar toda a raiva que mantinha dentro de si e era sua principal fonte de ebulição e descontrole. foram incontáveis vezes que despendeu seu tempo apenas em uma atividade.

em poucos meses, estava irreconhecível. havia raspado a cabeça, falava o mínimo possível e nem mesmo mais sorria. apesar de toda a dor, ainda tentava ser generosa com os outros. seus dias eram resumidos em trabalhar com naveen onde os chamassem e controlar seus impulsos. a ida a tremerra fora um dos atos que tentou não pensar em toda sua juventude. quando chegou na academia, uma sensação nunca antes vivida tomou conta. ao tocar o ovo azul escuro, como pensava ser no fundo do ar, jurou que seu coração estava fora de seu corpo. não conseguia explicar, mas estava ligada intimamente aquele ovo desde o primeiro momento que o pegou em mãos.

lottie is a sweetheart. she's someone who is naive, generous and too kind-hearted for her own good, though she may not seem it from a first glance. it would be easy to assume she cares more about the way she dresses than someone else's well-being, but that's just not true. spoiled, charlotte was also loved growing up. she never had to want for her parents affection. she was her daddy's little princess and the apple of her momma's eye, and they taught her how to be as good as she looked.

sometimes she forgets that everyone isn't the same as her. she expects people to treat her how she would treat them, which can lead to... problems.

the hardest thing she has been through was losing her momma. she was only around six when she passed away. playing with tiana was truly the distraction her little heart needed to cope through it all. she misses that woman so much, still, and she wishes her momma was here to see the young lady she grew into. she still loves her with her whole heart. she just has to love her from afar now.

she keeps waiting for some beautiful man with beautiful eyes to sweep her off her feet. sometimes she thinks she lets her imagination go too far. when she's out walking stella she often imagines bumping into a cutie with a dog of his own. they'd strike up a conversation, their pups would start playing together, and that would be that. at the ice cream parlor, she imagines the man before her in line asking her for help with selection. she cracks an innocent little joke, his eyes meet hers, and the world stops.

she knows that she is a strong independent woman who doesn't need a man! but is it so bad to want one?

she just... loves love. and she knows there's someone out there for her. hopefully in evermore.

lottie loves flowers - she grew up playing in an absolutely beautiful garden that was started by her mother, and it feels wrong to not be surrounded by floral scenery. though she doesn't have a yard for all that here, she has plants sitting in almost all of her windowsills. she doesn't have quite the green thumb her momma did, but they're all managing... for now.

marilyn monroe is her hero.

charlotte doesn't really... do casual. even her bedtime outfits consist of pink satin pj set and a 'messy' bun without a hair out of place. she has to do her makeup to go to the grocery store. it isn't that she's worried about being seen natural. maybe a little. she just loves looking her very best. it makes her feel her very best. she's not judging anyone who is there in their yoga pants, though; to them, she would say, "you look as pretty as a peach, darlin'!"

she has lots of southern phrases. i feel like that goes without saying... but i'm gonna say it anyway.

probably one of very few people you'll ever meet that says "bless your heart" unironically.

her favorite past time is romance novels. there's nothing better than pouring a nice tall glass of sweet tea, grabbing a copy of pride and prejudice and cozying herself into a hammock. she could lose herself in stories for hours. hoping one day she's part of one.

she has a sweet tooth... but specifically baked goods. she's not so much of a candy person. she does like chocolate, but specifically bon-bons and fancy little boxes - not hershey bars. her favorite, though? a nice warm apple pie. a chocolate chip croissant. sweet enough to eat the whole thing without getting a toothache. if she's being real specific, her favorite is anything tia bakes her. that girl bakes with love.

she rarely calls tiana by her name. it's always tia.

she's thought of working as a florist or something for a living, but honestly, running her social media is a full time job and one that she can't let go of. it boosts her ego, but it's also creative and it's fun.

before you are even a thought in your parents head , your father works harder than anyone to found and create his empire : elite edits . this company is more the love of his life than your mother could ever be but they go on to have you and all six of your siblings . you come near the end , the next to last and the only girl amongst a sea of brothers who are all celebrated , their worthiness never questioned when it comes to being business minded where as the expectation of you is lesser ... just a pretty little head who doesn't need to lift a finger . it is meant to be a dream but for you it is a nightmare . growing up then you begin to notice the double standard and your fierce feminism begins but it seems that your mother does not understand this . early in your life she becomes an unnamed obstacle , an enemy .

your mother struggles with addiction throughout her entire life , you and your siblings have visitation but remain with your father in your childhood home . there is no animosity or hatred between your parents , your mother a kept woman for life despite being your father remarrying a year later to a woman who you grow to respect more . you can't forgive your mother every time she relapses but you still love her , a step mother never taking her place but aligning more with your views . she encourages you to go to parsons while your mother simply asks why wasting your time and then you become sad because you realise she doesn't even see herself as capable - how horrifying this thought is to you . you vow that you will prove yourself for all the time she never could and you enrol , working harder than any of your brothers for the same level of entitlement and respect . your brothers are nice boys but they are inferior to your intelligence in your eyes , more easily distracted .

you graduate but your father still doesn't measure you as a contender to take over the family business . he begins to test your brothers , pitting them against one another to see who will come out on top . he says that the world is about survival of the fittest and they need to show their business mind and abilities , left in charge of the business with him becoming the silent partner until he decides who deserves to be ceo . from old to young , the crisis begins , each one of them incapable in their own special way ... they have their own views for their life ... their own interests to pay attention to . even the ones that are invested in fashion are more interested in gains than any fiscal or business responsibilities . each time you are the one who will step in to save the day , fix the problems , show what you are made of . you have been waiting your entire life to put your family to shame and your father has no choice but to eventually accept you are right . in the competition , you are the victor and you are not silent about it . your brother grants you position as a ceo but burdens you with having some of your brothers as business relations officers and overseers . they couldn't oversee getting dressed in the morning ( in your opinion ) , never mind you .
