The sudden comment startled Tohru, almost making her drop her chopsticks as she was eating her lunch ontop of the school building alongside the half-demon. Where did that come from? Inuyasha was always the type of guy to say brooding things like that, but...she thought they were having a nice lunch together.

Seems like even though she's gotten closer to him, it seems that darker outlook of his was still present. That sort of thing didn't change overnight, after all.

"W-Why do you say that?" She replies, still a bit startled by the tone shift. "S-Sure the world isn't perfect, but it's filled with so many amazing, beautiful things! You just...You just need to find them, like diamonds in the rough. The same goes for your world, too."

You know, I read Fruits Basket as a high schooler on the recommendation of my sister. I knew literally nothing about the plot and I remember I enjoyed it, but was still disappointed by the lack of open queerness that the title implied

Tohru never imagined that she would move so far away from the Sohmas, especially not to a place like Ikebukuro. Despite her apprehension, she was excited to work and finally own her own apartment — just like she had always promised her mother. It had been almost a week since she transitioned from the Sohmas' home to here. A light hum left her lips as she walked the busy streets. She had a lot of shopping planned for the day. She was drawn out of her thoughts by the sound of some man yelling, and the next thing she knew, she was witnessing another person being chased.

At first, she only stared at the scene, trying to figure out what was happening. But the next thing she knew, she grabbed the man's hand and pulled off to a side street. It was almost instinctual how she grabbed his hand to escape danger. ❝ Wow, that was really close! ❞ She muttered, peeking around the corner momentarily before returning to the other. Hands were soon raised and frantically shaking back and forth.

❝ Oh, I'm so sorry! Maybe I shouldn't have grabbed you like that; you might not have even needed my help! ❞ Words were spoken with worry, her brow creasing slightly as she spoke. ❝ I'm a stranger; maybe you didn't even need my help! I saw you running, so I thought the man was chasing you and you were in trouble. ❞ She stated in that way of hers, expressing her feelings that perhaps she had done something wrong.

She paused for a moment, finally looking up at the other. ❝ I'm Honda Tohru; it's nice to meet you. ❞ She introduced herself after realizing that she had only been explaining what she had done and why she had done it without even introducing herself. She couldn't help but be reminded of the last time she found herself in a similar situation, rescuing her dear friend Uo-chan from that group of girls who had been chasing her.

Okay so you like Fruits Basket too!? AWESOME!

Okay the thing is I am very hyperfixated on Fruits Basket and Persona, and I was like “what if Tohru had a Persona” and then I was playing Persona 2 and was like “yknow Maya and Tohru would get along especially well, huh?”

I really love the idea that since the Sohmas’ curses are part of the Chinese zodiac, that the Personas of the cast would be based on Chinese myth and history.

I’ve been trying to figure out the Arcana of the gang, but so far I think Tohru’s Persona is Nüwa (the Chinese creation goddess) and her card is the Fool, considering the Fool’s whole deal in Persona is their ability to draw power by connecting to others.

I’ve mostly been focusing on Tohru, Kyo, Yuki, Hanajima and Uotani so far (I love them all so much), but definitely want to extend further.

I’m not actually sure what reason there would be for the Fruits Basket cast to use Personas, but it’s really fun to think about.

ok imo hanajima would be the Moon!! the moon is known for its representation of femininity and the inner conisous and the unknown.

hanajima is clearly a girlboss fem queen, and she can get the vibes of other ppl (their waves, right?) another part of the moon is exposing the collective unconscious, things people are not aware of

kyo i think would be the tower, as the tower is dramatic sudden change, destruction and liberation.

tohrus appearance and witness of kyos form is clearly the change, and leads to his liberation of his destructive personalty!! the tower is often seen as a negative card that people dont want, but there are many other positive meanings in it too!! (kyo coded fr)

yuki is the hanged man card, which can mean seeing something from another perspective, being stuck, and is symbolic of the pause before something big happens. yuki lives his life stuck to akito, and is one of the zodiacs closest 2 her. moving w shigure is the peace b4 the storm (tohru + the events of fruba) seeing a new perspective is tohru and how not everyone is disgusted w the zodiac curse.

this is all just my opinion :0 the tarot is a highly opinion based and personal thing!! like personally i am not a religious or spiritual person so my view of the tarot is different!! but this was sososo fun to think about and i would love to hear about what u think ❤️❤️❤️

Please Fruits Basket me!

I have heard about it, but I have never really interacted with it.

What is it about?

Sorry to be this late, I haven't been on tumblr a lot lately !

Fruits basket is a classic shojo manga from th 90s and it got a reboot fairly recently (started in 2019 and ended in 2021 I believe). The title actually has very little to do with the actual content of the series, it's only briefly used in one quote from the heroine ("a riceball was never meant to be part of a fruits basket")

My sibling had been nagging me to watch the series or read the mangas for years and I finally did last year. It's a great anime ! I'd argue the manga is even better, but I still have a few volumes to go before I can actually say that honestly. The basic premise is that of a Tohru Honda, a girl who recently lost her mother in a car accident, who ends up living with two guys her age, Kyo and Yuki Sohma, and their techincally guardian Shigure Sohma. The specific bit is that there is a curse running in the Sohma family: there are 13 people cursed with the eastern zodiac animals, and they turn into them when hugged by the opposite sex or when they're sick.

The synopsis sounds like a silly comedy but it's honestly quite serious by the end of the series. Some parts of it aged not that well (a few age gaps relationships that, while common in the genre, aren't that great and a few LGBT-phobic moments too, though that is slightly better in the anime I would say) but it's a very heartwarming tale about letting go of the past and saying goodbye, that also deals with trauma in a great way.

Overall it is a piece of media I would definitely recommend and I haven't been able to get it out of my mind since I finished the anime (I'm currently reading the manga to keep a part of it with me for a bit longer)
