do u know like cool stuff like games and shows i can get into my life got empty and u seem like ya know some cool stuff!
get into touhou project. u can find patches downloads of the mainline games. Im a boomer so I think 6, 7, and 8 are basically the most important ones but they’re all worth trying except the later shoot the bullet games. read the official manga but then also read doujin manga especially the yuri shit. check out some of the fan games. there’s the really polished “big ones” like Luna nights but also lots of fun little ones that not as many ppl know like suwa moriya 64 which is like a n64 style collect a thon but with moriya who’s a cute lil frog girl. watch all the IOSYS flash animation. listen to soundholic and eastnewsound and beatmario. there’s like 3 fan anime to check out. summer activity record is like 3 episodes. Hiffuu activity record is currently only like 3 episodes. Memories of Phantasm only has like 3 or 4 episodes worth watching (the first 4) and is otherwise worthless. It’s not an accurate representation of canon but neither are most fan works like ppl need to chill on that specific topic.

2008 is a pretty eventful year for touhou at least in terms of canon. It marks the release of both Scarlet Weather Rhapsody and Subterranean Aminism. I think Cage in Lunatic Runagate started releasing chapters around this time as well.
Mountain of Faith released late 2007 so the fanworks for those characters were fleshed out in 08 as well. So what happened in the fanon? Well, a lot did and a lot didn't.
Aya is now a big character from here on out.
Wriggle stays somewhat relevant somehow??? She's doing her best!
Hina is either the nicest character ever who deals with depressing topics/stories or the most evil character imaginable (usually in comedy-focused stories).
Medicine starts to show up more due to Hina existing. I always thought this character was ignored by the community, but she really wasn't.
This is the LEAST stupid year I've seen for Cirno. It's like everyone decided to let her doing something smart this year.
Momiji is commonly depicted as working for Aya (which is super incorrect). Outside of that she doesn't get much focus surprisingly.
Kaguya's antagonistic depiction is slowly getting overshadowed by her being a NEET.
Ran and Sakuya are having a very hard time keeping it together.
I knew Nitori would be into tech, but I didn't expect her to obsess over taking tech apart to see how it works. Aya's camera was in constant danger.
Reisen's PTSD is starting to set in.
Rinnousuke is ripped as hell and nobody cares. (Shoutouts to Rinnousuke being comedy gold when he isn't depicted as a disgusting pervert).
The Aki sisters bicker with each other quite a lot, but always make up with each other by the end.
Minoriko throwing grapes and potatoes at whoever she's angry at is top tier content.
Since the Aki sisters made the seasons relevant again, LETTY IS BACK LETS GOOOOO.
"Yukkuri shiteitte ne!" was 2008???? I thought it was way older!
The family dynamic of the Moriya Shrine heavily reminds me of Minami-ke (there's even a doujin that makes that comparison).
Kanako gets added to the list of "old hags". (Suwako avoids this despite being just as old)
Reimu is somewhat nerfed now. She's clearly still powerful, but the absolute dominance of power she has in fanworks isn't as prominent.
Suwako trying to be the mother she never got to be in past and be the mother Sanae never had hits me right in the feels bro.
Marisa's harem only gets bigger. (Is it because of the faith she gathered?)
Sanae gets sexually harassed a lot. Ya hate to see it.
Sanae is usually portrayed as a very nice, responsible, and innocent young girl which is funny...considering how long that lasts.
Suwako's height varies drastically, but starts being consistently short by the end of the year.
Mountain of Faith as a whole doesn't get much content even in 2008. Maybe it got overshadowed by the other releases, but it was one of the weaker touhou games in general.
Tenshi's masochist joke happens immediately. Also she is supposed to be short canonically, but Twilight Frontier didn't show it well so in fanworks she's a little taller than average for a long time (American sized).
Iku cannot read the room, a joke almost as good as "is that so?".
I'm disappointed that no one made a joke about Patchouli using bean danmaku to beat Suika in SWR. (maybe someone did and I didnt see it)
Iku almost becomes a sadist, but Yuuka existed so her motivation in bullying Tenshi just becomes a yuri thing
Several characters try to eat Tenshi's or Minoriko's hats.
Aki Eda said Parsee and Yuugi were gay for each other and everyone was like, "Yeah I'll add that to my religion" (idk if Aki Eda was actually the first person to ship them, but their doujin released pretty close to SA)
Satori frequently uses super weak spellcards (like Easy Perfect Freeze) exposing that the heroines got hit by them at least once.
Rin will absolutely throw your body in her wheelbarrow even if you're just unconscious.
Koishi's 3rd eye is usually shown to be shut normally...like without stitches. I'm used to seeing stitches.
Aaand that's really it for SA. SA released late in 2008 so anything else I say would be technically about 2009 fanworks. There was honestly way more stuff about older characters than the new ones for this year. The overall fanon for the older characters didn't change much despite SWR giving a lot of material for older characters. (I barely even saw Komachi in 2008!)
Ah well, I know 2009 goes wild. It's about when I started to really pay attention to doujinshi works and not just the games/music. Undefined Fantastic Object comes out and a lot of new stuff in general happens (honestly considering making two posts for it).

Manga I’d Like to See Anime Adaptations From
1) Higanbana: Done by the same creator of the When They Cry series, Higanbana is about a nameless school where urban legends about the youkai are prevalent. When a girl named Marie Moriya is murdered by her own teacher to cover up his crimes, she meets one of the youkai, Higanbana Odorou, and competes with her teacher to become Mesomeso, a new urban legend of the school. I would love for Passione (who is doing the remake/sequel Higurashi series) to do it.
2) Expressionless Girl and Emotional Face Boy: A slice of life about the titular emotional face boy Oota trying to get the drop on his classmate (and potential crush) Kashiwada, but she hardly emotes.
3) Hello Melancholic!: Asano Minato lugs around a trombone at her new school even though there weren’t any musical classes or clubs. She was the kind of girl that would burrow inwardly, but things change when a girl named Hibiki pushes for her to join her band.
4) Kanako’s Life as An Assassin: An ex-office lady named Kanako unwittingly joins an assassin agency after she killed her boss (without intending to, it just kind of happened). Once there, she proves to be very good at eliminating her targets whilst keeping herself hidden. Overall, a black comedy manga series heavily concentrating on death. Kind of feels like a spiritual successor to Assassination Classroom in some capacities.
5) Hino-San No Baka: Class president Koguma is tasked with ensuring that the delinquent Hino continues to come to class. However, Hino would have her to do tasks for her in return for her attending.
6) My Friend Is the Cutest in the World: When the student council president saves a girl when she fell out of a tree, the girl becomes indebted to her and follows her around.
7) Can’t Defy the Lonely Girl: Another Yuri series kind of like Hino-San No Baka where the class president Sakurai is tasked with bringing a girl named Honda to school in return for getting a glowing letter of recommendation to the school she wanted.
8) Wolf Can’t Beat Hayakawa: A story about a boy who is able to transform into a werewolf...except said werewolf looks like a cute Corgi. To make matters worse, he finds himself getting doted on by the girl who bullies him in school.
9) Usami-San Ha Kamawaretai!: A boy befriends a Yankee who claims to be diagnosed with a rare disease called “Usagi disease” which meant that she felt like she could die if she were left alone.
10) Giri-Giri Saegiru Katagirisan: Boy wants to see boobs, but a girl keeps blocking his view.
11) My Boy: The story of a 30-year-old woman developing a friendship with a young boy.
12) Zettai Watashi No Koto Suki Daro: Girl’s friend claims that she does not love her despite her actions saying otherwise.
13) Even If It Was Just Once, I Regret It: A woman who had lost her job is told by her landlord that she could “pay her rent” by having sex with her. But over time, they grow closer to each other and their feelings become mutual.
16) Vampeerz My Peer Vampires: After the death of her grandmother, Ichikai meets a vampire girl who she falls head over heels for.
17) Dear Noman: A girl is able to see ghosts and joins an organization dedicated to having these ghosts cross over.
18) Bright and Cheery Amnesia: A young woman loses her memory of her years with her girlfriend so her girlfriend tries to help her reclaim them in her own way.
19) Moon and No Make Up: A slice of life about a bubbly girl and her “darker” girlfriend.
20) The Mute Girl and Her New Friend: A mute girl transfers to a new school but can only communicate through her sketchbook. She ends up befriending another girl who has telepathic powers.

Meychan's comment from natalie.mu: “It’s my first time writing a song depicting a woman’s perspective.
“Myself included, people have so many ‘regrets’ throughout their lives that are impossible to count, but we hope to be able to compensate for them one by one,
“So I wrote a song to depict a lonely girl in such a situation.
“I wrote the song right up to the details so please listen to the song with all ears!”

English:
Throwing a dream to the fire for my numbing eyes to see
Bathe me in its light only for this moment
Ever since my heart started beating
I came to know of your love
But to keep myself from melting away
I looked down and hid myself
Please! Don’t wake me up from this dream just yet
I’m being blinded by the light closing in
I ended up losing my way in an attempt to find you
I should have stayed and waited here
Or kept my eyes closed like this instead
I heard what you said that day
But I couldn’t swallow your words
I’ll give you everything that I have already
So light that lamp
If the rain could wash away even the time that had gone by
Then gently embrace my innocent self with those wide arms of yours
Look at me...
The snow melts and disappears with one's touch
Oh, what a transient thing, don't you think?
I finally understood everything when it came to finding you
I realized that I was snow all along
Please, let me stay in your warmth like this

Fragtime by Sato
[dynasty-scans link]
Second up in manga licensed by Seven Seas last Wednesday! Fragtime was one of the first yuri series I discovered by myself rather than being recommended it, and I wound up falling for it pretty hard. I just love the concept; Misuzu Moritani is a girl who gained the power to stop time out of her desire to run away from the world, while Haruka Murakami winds up worming her way into that time with her. As the relationship between the two develops, both are forced to confront the things they’re running away from, finally facing themselves and each other honestly. It’s an extremely character-driven story, and what powerful characters drive it!
In addition to its official English release next Spring, Fragtime is also getting an OVA in late November! If you wind up enjoying it, there’s a lot to look forward coming up.
(These scanlations switch scanlators in the last couple chapters, and the new scanlator is convinced Misuzu Moritani is actually Mirei Moriya, but checking other sources the former is the intended name.)

Aqua - Hug her, she hugs all liberally

20. Botanists - Agie Games published this tile-laying game designed by Violaine Malié and illustrated by Pedro Codeço. It supports 2-4 players in 30-60 min. There are some unique tile placement rules in this game that I haven't seen before. It looks interesting but hard. When I read about how you can rack up a ton of negative points, I thought I might not do well at this game. I'd still give it a try, though.
19. Pirate Map - This looks like a quick family game for 2-6 players in 20 min. Probably a filler game. The publisher is Tranjis Games, the designer is Eugeni Castaño, and the artist is Pedro A. Alberto. This game sounds like a card game version of Tobago. You have to listen to the pirate captain's story, then as a group you play cards to build out the treasure map. I'm guessing that you have to play cards showing certain landmarks based on the pirate's story. This sounds like a game that might be fun for younger kids.
18. Paranormal Detectives - If Greenville 1989 can be considered the horror version of Mysterium, then this appears to be the party game version. The publisher is Lucky Duck Games, who made a big splash with Chronicles of Crime earlier this year. The designers are Szymon Maliński, Adrian Orzechowski, and Marcin Łączyński. JocArt, Mateusz Komada, and Katarzyna Kosobucka provided the artwork. This cooperative game is for 2-6 players and takes 30-50 min.
One player is the ghost, while all other players are detectives trying to figure out what happened to the ghost. The BGG describes some of the ways the ghost can interact with others: "arranging a hangman’s knot, playing chosen tarot cards, creating a word puzzle on a talking board, drawing by holding the hand of a detective…." It sounds fun, but party games tend to have a short shelf life in my household, as they can wear out their welcome quickly.
17. Gates of Delirium - Married duo Mandy and Jordan Goddard are the designers of this Cthulhu-esque game of horrors. George Cotronis is the artist and Renegade Game Studios is the publisher. In this game, 2-4 players age 14+ will spend 45 min. trying to save humanity from other-wordly monsters...or they'll help those monsters along instead, depending on how they're feeling.
This card game looks interesting to me because of the split decision making. Each round, a player will decide if everyone is sane or insane. If it's a sane round, you'll play actions on your cards to help beat the monsters. If it's an insane round, you'll play the actions on your card that directly undermine your sane side. It's a total Jekyll & Hyde! You can score points either way. I suspect the trick is knowing when to play which side to maximize victory points.
Teri Litorco (well-known for painting board game figurines) excitedly talked about this game in a YouTube video at GenCon.
16. Monster Baby Rescue - Designed by Vladimír Suchý with art by Jana Kilianová, this looks like a cute, family-weight game about raising baby mythological creatures! It's being published by both Delicious Games and Rio Grande Games. Players take tiles and follow the instructions on the tile to care for their pets. It looks like a board game version of Tamagotchi. For those unfamiliar, Tamagotchi was a digital pet you had to care for by feeding, cleaning up animal waste, etc. that was all the race in the late '90s/early 2000s. I'm expecting some fun game play from the same designer who previously brought us Underwater Cities, Last Will, and its sequel, The Prodigals Club.
15. Detective Stories: Stillsee - This game is published by IDventure and is another "escape room" style game. It's for 1-5 players age 13+ and takes 1.5-2 hours to play. It says you can play it cooperatively or competitively to see who can find the criminal first, but I'd rather just play it cooperatively. This game is app assisted and is supposedly a realistic criminal investigation game. I'm excited to try out different brands of escape games, which is why this one made my list.
14. Coralia - Produced by Huch!, designed by Michael Rieneck, and illustrated by Miguel Coimbra, this game is all about underwater exploration--a hot theme this year. Miguel's cover art does a wonderful job enticing players to dive into this deep sea adventure made for 2-4 players age 10+. Estimated play time is half an hour.
Players will roll and place dice, as well as use cards, to move their remotely operated vehicles (ROVs) through coral reefs, discovering sea animals and perhaps finding sunken treasure! The production of the components looks nice; the see-through colored dice with custom die faces and the octopus meeples help this game stand out from other aquatic themed games released this year.
13. Pocket Detective - Designed by Yury Yamshchikov, this game is brought to us by Russian publishers, Jet Games Studio and Lavka Games. It's a co-op detective game that takes 45-60 min. for 1-6 players age 10+. Based on the age group, you probably don't need to worry about a horror theme or anything too graphic. The goal is to solve the case in as few turns as possible, kind of like Sherlock Holmes: Consulting Detective.
12. Escape from the Asylum - Here's another Huch! game that has made my list. The designers are Martin Nedergaard Andersen, Alexander Peshkov, and Ekaterina Pluzhnikova. A big team created the art: Anastasia Durova, Dmitry Krasnov, Nadezhda Mikhailova, Pavel Korobkov, Anastasia Stupak, Maxim Suleimanov, Victoria Kochkina, and Victoria Volina-Lukian. It's a cooperative game for 1-6 players age 12+ and takes an hour to play.
As I previously mentioned, this year a few new brands of "escape room" style games were introduced. This is one of them. Based on the description at BGG, I think the twist here is that players see the events through different characters' eyes. I could be wrong about that, but the concept is intriguing. What if we all have the same goal of escaping, but every player's character has their own secret motivations for wanting to escape?
11. Decipher - Welcome to the latest word party game! The publisher is HeidelBÄR Games, the designers are Bill Eberle, Peter Olotka, and Greg Olotka, and the artist is Kwanchai Moriya. From splashy '80s aesthetics like Dinosaur Island to cute abstract characters like Kodama, Moriya's box covers really pop!
In this game, one person builds a word out of abstract letter pieces, while everyone else has to guess the word. The fewer pieces you need to guess the word, the higher your score will be. This is for 2-4 players and takes around half an hour to play.
Stay tuned for my Top 10 coming up in the next post!
