Teen Titans Masterpost And Reading Guide -

This is mostly a passion project of mine about my favourite team in DC Comics The Titans ! The general consensus I have seen on this website is that their history is confusing and people don’t know where to start so …. This guide includes ALL ( worthwhile ) pieces of Titans Media .

Ok so this is heavily inspired by @bitimdrake ‘s guide so check that one too !

Just to preface this is all my opinion and you can really start wherever you feel like it if you want to ! Sound Good 👍🏻 Good

TEEN TITANS

Ok so before you begin the og TT series you should read

- Brave and The Bold ( 1955) #54 and #60 if you want to read right from the start chronologically!

The Original Team of the TEEN TITANS was a series that ran through the 60s beginning in 1966 - 1973 and having a comeback in 1976 .

The OG series consisted mostly Robin Wonder Girl Kid Flash and Aqualad with many a cameo from other teens.

You can either read the OG Series but its completely optional it’s pretty outdated and silly but it’s a fun ride even then . In my opinion its best to leave for after you have been endeared to the characters .

If you really enjoy the Silver Age Teen Titans there’s also Showcase #59 before Roy joins and a story in the 80 page Flash Giant ! And after reading issue #20 you can also read #83 of Brave and The Bold.

After #31 theres TBANB #94 and after #34 theres World Finest Comics #205 ( read at your own discretion - totally optional)

Aswell as BANTB #102 and #149

And the utterly delightful Teen Titans lost annual & A story ( worlds oldest teenagers ) in the 80 page Flash giant.

All optional ( they get really weird)

Alternatively just read TEEN TITANS : YEAR ONE .

NTT is arguably the seminal run and its best an absolute mustread . ( at it’s worst ….)

- DC PRESENTS #26 ( totally optional)

- THE NEW TEEN TITANS Vol.1

#1-40

- BEST OF DC #18 ( optional again.)

- Tales of The New Teen Titans ( miniseries #1-4 included in the NTT Omnis)

- read the 1st annual after issue #25

- By Issue 40 the series rebrands To TALES Of TEEN TITANS

This continues on from issues #41 to #58 it runs alongside NTT VOL.2 but is set 6 months before .

Read annual 3 as Part of Judas Contract !

- NEW TEEN TITANS VOL.2

#1-49

- TT Spotlight Miniseries !! ( SO GOOD SERIOUSLY)

- There’s also a drug awareness special at some point ( it’s its …. Certainly something)

NEW TITANS

By this point they remembered that “hey these guys aren’t teens anymore ” and thus renamed it to NEW TITANS . This series started off well enough and quickly devolved into arguably one of the worst runs EVER.

New Titans #81 is part of War Of The Gods and Annual 7 is part of Armageddon 2001 ( don’t bother ) annual 8 is part OF YET ANOTHER EVENT . Again don’t bother .

It’s pretty much highly recommend giving it up at #70 regardless .

#50 - 100

- running alongside NEW TITANS by 1992 was TEAM TITANS a series so awful I cannot recommend to you in clear conscience but if your a completetionist ( trust me I get it ) It’s there and Donna shows up alot !

The last decaying remains of NT walks on like a zombie on acid but by #100 all of the NTT crew is gone ( well most ) and leave to be replaced by an all new government sponsored Titans team lead by Roy . ( look I love this team but you seriously don’t have to keep reading)

Ok so I am aware that they aren’t strictly Titans series BUT PLEASE TAKE a minute to read

The Arsenal Special!! Its a short single issue and BRILLIANT !! It informs a-lot of his character later on as well as of course the actual Arsenal Miniseries.

ALSO THE TEMPEST (1996) a absolute must read also informs basically everything about Garth and arguably his best story ever … just take a minute and read these if you want !! Before the Titans (1999)

Ok so in the 90’s DC decided to start the TT from scratch ( huh see how long this’ll last )

This all new team was comprised of 4 half alien teens and a freshly deaged Atom. It didn’t last very long and while I am fond of it AGAIN you don’t HAVE TO read it

One of If not the best run on Titans ( don’t @ me ) It slowly loses momentum after #26 but I still generally LOVED it . Stellar A++ Titans content !!

( you can also read the Beast Boy #1-4 miniseries prequel . But uh unless you really love Bette it’s not worth it )

( I have mixed opinions on this run some think it a masterpiece some think it awful I generally think it’s…. Fine ? Well “sigh” not fine but give it a go I guess ) I recommend #2-26

Ok so this run isn’t really…. A titans run but it has fantastic Roy and Dick characterisation and KORY JOINS LATER AND SO TECHNICALLY-

Ok so I basically consider post OYL TT ‘03 to be a totally different team because… well it is . All of the NTT crew leave and are replaced by a handful of cameos and eventually like Rose Wilson and Kid Devil and because at this point half of the YJ gen is well…dead . It was pretty awful at this point though I find the character interactions endearing. This series remains like that until N52 .

After all the bullshit THEY ARE BACK TOGETHER AGAIN YAY !!!! To bad there’s so much shit going on OUTSIDE of the Titans that ends up fucking over the characters. E.G Bruce dying so Dick has to go be Batman and …. Hell . Fucking Rise Of Arsenal. If you know what happens in that book well yk that Roy ends up relapsing and going down a much darker mindset .

Series swings between being really good and being a mischaracterising MESS.

TITANS ( 2008 ) : VILLAINS FOR HIRE

So at issue 23 DC had the genius idea of taking the Titans and …. Turning them into a mercenary and hitman group lead by Deathstroke himself ( why ? I wish I fucking knew.) Filled out with hitman and villains and …. Roy who was now really dark and #edgy . Whatever It was bad and a wannabe secret six .

However they’re was almost light at the end of the tunnel …. Jericho ( Joey Wilson yes he IS ALIVE ) seemed to have plans to assemble a new TITANS team and reunite their family and Roy well it seemed he was on a path to redemption he was almost there close to moving to recovery and healing and he could do it with—

N52 . POST FLASHPOINT TITANS.

The N52 was bad isnt a particularly outrageous statement but IT WAS EXTREMELY fucking bad in relation to the Titans . Bluntly put None of it ever happened and the only titans ( TEEN TITANS ACTUALLY) that had ever existed were the TT2003 guys . Just them. Fab Five never existed. NTT never existed.And all of the other og TT guys were …… WALLY never existed. Donna was a one note villain Garth never existed Dick was …. There I guess.. ROY was a dumbed down alcoholic with no purpose other than to gawk at how cool and oh and ahh at Jason Todd . ( KORY …… truly just awful what happened to her )

You can read the TEEN TITANS N52 . I guess .

They have 2 series . Read at your own peril they’re better if you pretend that the characters aren’t supposed to be … like the characters that they are . ( scott lobbell shouldn’t of been allowed to touch a pen )

Do not read this comic . And if you do ? THAT IS NOT DAMIAN . The series starts with Damian leading alot of the OG NTT guys like Kory and Vic + Ace and then it later just becomes Damian + Emiko + Ace and a couple other guys like Crush .

Drowned Earth happens ( not important) but it happens at #28 . And they have a crossover with Deathstroke in

TEEN TITANS / DEATHSTROKE : Terminus Agenda ( it’s vol ) optional though

A solid adaptation of … most of the characters please don’t go into this show and come out expecting the same from the comics . Did a lot of good for Terra’s character and influences ALOT of public perception. Just … don’t be annoying about the comics after watching this .

Said Your Name

Part of the 'Name 'Verse' series, part 2 (1, 2), with the masterpost being here.

Platonic Anxiety & Duke & Deceit, background romantic LAMP, grief, mourning, anxiety, apocalypse au, afterlife au, read warnings under the cut.

Summary:

Virgil was anxious.

Which, really, wasn’t all that surprising. Virgil was always anxious. What made this particular bout of anxiousness remarkable was that he was much more anxious than normal.

He thought that, maybe, he was anxious because he was dead. Maybe he was anxious because he was dead and woke up in a zombie apocalypse world. Maybe he was anxious because after he woke up, they stuck him in this school and said in order for him to leave, he had to pass all of the tests.

Or maybe he was just anxious because he hated cafeterias.

Virgil dies, which kinda sucks a lot. Honestly, though, this whole “go to school in order to not die again because of zombies except you can’t die again because you’re already dead“ thing might suck a little bit more.

ALTERNATELY TITLED: The Academy

I said I probably wouldn’t write anything more for this and I actually believed me. Why would I do that? I know I’m full of shit.

This chronologically takes place before “Say My Name”, because it’s right after Virgil died, but because it was written after “Say My Name” I didn’t explain the whole universe. So if you want to read this, I recommend reading that first. Technically I guess you could read this without having read that, but it wouldn’t make a whole lot of sense.

Thank you for taking time to read what resulted from me messing around with a laptop.

Anyways, onto the warnings!

WARNINGS: Talk of death, talk of stabbing/being stabbed, mention of guns, mention of machetes, mentions of firearms, mentions of supernatural creatures, food, eating of food, slight alluding to the possibility of throwing up, description of scars, messy eating, general feelings of anxiety, tears, crying, mentions of a breakdown, grief, missing loved ones, mentions of starving oneself in grief, (very brief) mentions of killing oneself (a few characters think another character is going to kill themselves, they are incorrect and this situation is vaguely referenced and not explained), use of the word “ass”.

Virgil was anxious.

Which, really, wasn’t all that surprising. Virgil was always anxious. What made this particular bout of anxiousness remarkable was that he was much more anxious than normal.

Or maybe he was just anxious because he hated cafeterias.

It was loud, and bright, and smelly. Apparently, the afterlife hadn’t figured out how to fix cafeterias. Virgil awkwardly made his way through the crowded tables, holding his tray, eyes flicking back and forth, trying desperately to find a table that was empty. If he couldn’t find one, he supposed he could go and try to eat in the library. Actually, you know what? That was a much better idea than wandering around the massive cafeteria, he was just going to do that.

The Academy was the place everyone went after they died. Well, the Plains was where everyone went after they died. The Academy was essentially the admission process. It supposedly taught people how to fight, and how the Plains worked, and the laws, and the jobs. Everyone was given a dorm and a dorm-mate and a schedule, and Virgil was a little concerned that he graduated college only to be shoved right back into college. Except this college taught him how to use guns and machetes.

Which was helpful, he supposed. While he was lucky enough not to have run into a Daemon yet, he knew it was only a matter of time, and that was something he definitely wanted to be prepared for.

So, after introducing himself to his roommate (a laid back man that looked like a stereotypical surfer-dude and talked like one too, who went by Catch) and memorizing his schedule (which (among others) included the exciting new classes of “Melee Weaponry”, “Firearms 101”, “History of Death and Destruction”, “Fitness: Agility Training 1”, “Fitness: Strength Training 1” and “Career Advisory”, which sounded remarkably normal but was still a major source of anxiety), Virgil decided that he was going to try his best to reinvent himself here. He was going to be strong, and prepared, and not riddled with anxiety at every moment.

Which, now that he was faced with the cafeteria, he was realizing was a lot easier said than done.

Tomorrow, Virgil thought dejectedly as he changed course to one of the arched doorways that led out of the cafeteria. I’ll reinvent myself tomorrow.

He had almost made it to the doorway when he saw the empty table up against the wall.

Hallelujah.

Virgil started weaving his way through the full tables, hunching his shoulders a little at the gazes he felt on his back. Logically, he knew no one was looking at him. That didn’t mean he didn’t feel the stares of a hundred people boring into his skull.

Finally, he made it to the safety of the empty table, and he sank down onto a seat against a wall with a sigh. Virgil set his tray down and curiously picked up the apple that had been sitting on it.

The Plains didn’t have any life, Virgil had been told, and that included plants and animals. The people that resided in the Plains weren’t ‘life’, exactly, but more unlife. Plants and animals, however, weren’t there at all.

Thankfully, scientists had invented artificial food that could taste like and provide the same nutrients as regular food. Technically, since no one in the Plains could die, no one needed to eat, but everyone did if only to keep their bodies strong in case of a fight.

Virgil took an experimental bite of his apple and was delighted to find that it gave the same satisfying crunch that his favorite apples Before had given. He quickly polished off the rest of the green fruit and planned to move to his sandwich, but stopped once he actually focused on said sandwich.

At the register, Virgil had frozen. He hadn’t known what to order or how to add extras or if he wasn’t allowed to order certain things, and there had been a line behind him, so he had ordered the first thing that came to mind. After the hatch had opened with his meal he had tried not to think about his food. Which hadn’t been hard, considering the Seating Conundrum had been a more pressing matter.

But, now, he had to stare down the innocent looking PB&J, with crunchy peanut butter and Crofters blueberry jelly.

Crofters was his favorite.

Not Virgil’s favorite, his. Virgil’s Star. Crofters was sometimes the only things he would eat. He hoarded the jelly jars like they were made of gold, and Virgil had always teased him about it. Virgil was typically met with a side-eyed glare and a threat given in a flat voice about how if he “wanted to stay in the apartment, you need to get used to the fact that Crofters will always come first in this relationship.”

And then he would let out a booming laugh and say that the feeling was mutual, because he had always loved Crofters too. Virgil’s Princey. At one point he had even composed and sang an entire song about Crofters, and Virgil had sat on the counter and watched with a besotted smile, and he had clapped sarcastically when he was done because he had an image to uphold, even though Virgil never had had to worry about his image around him or his Star.

Or him . Even before the others, Virgil was always free to be what he wanted around him. Virgil’s Angel. He was kind and so sweet, and he would clap and cheer and shout compliments after every one of his Princey’s performances, whether they were on a stage or on a countertop. He would dance when there was no music, and smile when, to Virgil, there was nothing to smile about.

Fuck, Virgil missed his smile.

Virgil missed them all. So much. So much it hurt, so much that the place on the left of his torso where the knife slid in and out ached all the time, even though there was nothing there but a thin white line.

Virgil blinked and realized that his eyes were watering. Through his tears, he saw his sandwich again.

He didn’t even like crunchy peanut butter. They did, all three of them, and they were broke just-graduated fiancé’s, which meant they could only get one kind, and he was the minority in their household when it came to peanut butter preferences, so he had to deal with crunchy.

Virgil’s hand came up to his mouth, the cool leather of his fingerless gloves familiar and comforting against his skin even as his hoodie gave him a sweater paw he pressed into his face in an attempt to stop himself from breaking down in a loud, crowded cafeteria.

“Well, I was gonna tell you to move ‘cause this is our table,” a voice said cheerily, causing Virgil to tense and push into the wall, “but you look like you’re about to start crying so I feel like the nice thing to do would be to ask what’s wrong.” Someone flopped noisily into the seat across from Virgil, but he didn’t dare look up, instead resting his gaze on his lunch tray.

“Fortunately or unfortunately for you,” the person continued, “I am not a nice person and therefore am not going to ask you what’s wrong.”

Virgil glanced up at the speaker, and suddenly he was very concerned about that apple coming back up for a visit.

“Instead,” the person who looked exactly like his Princey grinned, and a silver canine tooth glinted, “I’m going to ask you a question.”

Virgil’s eyes flicked over to the person behind Virgil’s fiancé’s clone, who was standing intimidatingly with their arms crossed and calculating look on their scarred face. That alone would have normally made Virgil freak out, but now he only turned his attention back to the person sitting across from him.

They had a mustache, and shaggy hair that hung in their face. He never would have been caught dead with that hairstyle. They had piercings up and down their ears, and a few in their eyebrow. He only had two in each ear. They had a gray streak shining in their hair. He had never dyed his hair.

This wasn’t him.

And yet.

The same green eyes. The same mouth. The same nose. The same jawline. The same natural tan, if a little paler. The same lines around their smile.

The clone leaned forward, resting on their elbows. They were wearing a neon green t-shirt over a tight long sleeved black shirt, both with enough rips in them to show the bright rainbow fishnets the person was wearing under. The t-shirt had what appeared to be a dick crudely drawn on it in sharpie, and Virgil could feel a headache coming on because of the outfit in general. Or maybe the headache was because the person continued with: “My question, which is very important, is ‘ass or thighs’?”

Virgil blinked.

“What?”

“It’s very simple. Ass or thighs?” The clone raised an eyebrow, the one without the piercings. It was dyed gray, like the streak in their hair, and had a shaved line through it.

“I- I don’t-“ Virgil stuttered, glancing at the person behind the clone. They were studying Virgil, which made him shrink back even more, but once they made eye contact they tapped their companion on the shoulder lightly. Virgil noticed that they were wearing yellow gloves.

“Duke, dear,” they said, and the person sitting looked up at them, their hair falling back. “That,” the person with the yellow gloves gestured at Virgil, pale and shaking, “is the look of someone who knew you Before and was not expecting to see you here.”

‘Duke’ made an ‘o’ shape with his mouth, then looked back at Virgil, this time with a studying expression. Their eyebrows pinched in a distinctly Princey way, and Virgil saw spots.

“I’m going to go get some napkins,” the yellow-gloved person said, adjusting the black bowler hat sitting on their head (what century was this person from? Wait, no, they could actually be from a different century, fuck) and politely ignoring the napkins sitting on the tray they had set down on the table. They turned on their heels and left.

The clone smiled at Virgil, too wide.

“So? Do we know each other? Because I have to say, I don’t remember you and I feel like I would remember such a Cullen-like specimen-“

“Remus.”

The person stopped abruptly, smile dropping. Their face looked bare without it.

“So we did know each other,” Remus said carefully, voice blank.

Virgil remembered the nights his Princey had talked about his twin. He remembered the pictures, glances from the ones on his wall and the frame on his desk. He especially remembered the days spent locked in a room, his love starving himself after his twin ran away, never to be seen again.

It made sense that his twin was never seen again if his twin was dead.

“No,” Virgil whispered, voice croaky. “I didn’t know you. I only knew your face.”

Remus clenched their jaw. “You knew him, then.” ‘Him’ was spat as if the word burned, and Virgil clenched his own jaw in response.

“Why did you do it? Why did you leave?” Virgil's hands were still shaking, as was his voice, but he needed to know at least that. Needed to know what his fiancé had done so wrong that it resulted in a twin that deserted him.

“Why does it matter?” Remus fired back. “Not like he cared. He probably celebrated.” Remus’ fingers dug into the edge of the table, and their voice was bitter.

“What- of course he cared!” Virgil sat up straight and raised his voice, not enough for other tables ro hear, but enough for Remus to lean back slightly in surprise. “He called you a hundred times, he cried so much he made himself sick, he locked himself in his room and starved for days! I had to climb through his window just to deliver some food! We were afraid he was going to kill himself!”

Remus’ eyes were wide, and after Virgil’s last sentence they made a noise as if they’d been punched.

Virgil didn’t realize he’d stood up until he put his hands on the table to steady himself. He dropped into his seat and lowered his voice. “Why would you do that to him?”

Remus shook their head.

“I didn’t think he’d care,” they answered in a small voice. “He had his- his crushes, and mom and dad’s approval, I just-“ They let out a long breath. “Just wanted out. Of everything.”

They laughed, the sound hollow. “I didn’t want to die, though. Guess I should have been more specific when I wished on that star.” The joke was an attempt at levity, but it fell flat. The voice that delivered it was self-deprecating, and cynical.

Virgil had some experience with self-deprecating and cynical.

He sighed. There was a moment of awkward quiet from both of them, the noise of the cafeteria filling the space. Someone at another table must have done something impressive, because there was a smattering of claps and a noticeable amount of ‘ooohs’.

“I’m sorry I said your name from Before,” Virgil said tentatively, rubbing his palms together. “I’m, uh, not used to the whole ‘label with a Name’ thing yet.”

An olive branch.

Silence.

“It’s a little weird in the beginning, but you’ll be fine.”

Smile.

An acceptance.

Virgil blew out a breath he didn’t know he’d been holding. “So, what should I, uh, call you?”

“Duke, he/him.” Duke grinned. His tooth shined. ”You?”

“Anxiety,” Virgil said hesitantly, returning the grin, albeit in a smaller form. He still was a little anxious about the name he had chosen, but, then again, didn’t that just mean it was the right name? “He/him.”

Duke nodded. He jerked his head to where the person from earlier was lounging against a wall, observing the cafeteria, not even pretending to be getting napkins. “That’s Deceit. He/him.”

As if he was summoned, Deceit’s gaze locked on their table and, once he saw they were looking at him, he pushed off the wall and started to walk over.

He was wearing a black button-up shirt under his black jacket, which had yellow outlines. They matched the yellow gloves, and the yellow band around the base of his bowler hat. He had on black boots and pants, which gave off a very sleek and intimidating look, but what really sold it was the large scar stretched over the left half of his face.

It was a burn scar, the skin a puckered pink that contrasted against his otherwise darker complexion. It stretched from his hairline down over his neck, and from his temple to his nose. His eye, however, seemed to be perfectly fine, and Virgil wondered if maybe it was only fine because they were dead and their bodies had to be healthy and strong.

When Deceit reached their table, and sat on the seat to the left of Duke.

“Figured everything out?” he asked coolly, his voice lilting with some sort of accent.

“Yup!” Duke answered, back to being almost obnoxiously cheerful. “Anxiety over here is my Name now!”

Deceit raised an eyebrow, the one that wasn’t burned off. “Oh?”

“Oh,” Virgil parroted, because that hadn’t even occurred to him.

A Name, as had been explained to Virgil, was someone or multiple someone’s that you were close enough with to share your name from Before with. Typically, they were someone that you had known from Before, but there were also many cases of Names who had been met in the Plains. Either way, being someone’s name was a very important bond.

Virgil was decidedly not bonded to Duke.

He looked at Duke tentatively, trying to gage his reaction.

“Yeah, we’re besties now,” Duke said casually, nodding. He pulled his lunch tray closer and wasted no time in digging into the questionable looking green sludge on it.

Deceit glanced at Virgil, but this time his lips were tilted upward. Virgil relaxed minutely.

“Am I being replaced?” Deceit asked teasingly, grabbing his own tray and delicately plucking a grape from the stem.

“Mhm,” Duke hummed through his mouth full of sludge. He swallowed noisily and gave a wide smile. “It’s official, I’m replacing you.” Duke gave a mocking shake of his head. “Anx is just a better conversationalist.”

Virgil ignored how the nickname sparked warmth in his chest. “Uh, so you’re both, um. Okay with me, er, hanging out with you?” Virgil cringed at his choice of words, like they were chilling after math class instead of being friends in an apocalyptic afterlife.

Duke and Deceit looked at him, then each other.

“Well, yeah,” Duke said. “You’re my Name. I figured that was obvious?”

Virgil looked at Deceit. “And… you’re okay with that?”

Deceit shrugged. “Sure. You seem fine enough.”

Virgil wasn’t sure if ‘fine enough’ should be as much of a compliment as Deceit was acting like it was and, more importantly, how Virgil was reacting like it was, but Virgil’s cheeks felt warmer anyway.

“Okay,” he said quietly, giving both men a small smile.

“Great!” Duke clapped his hands sharply, and when he grinned his teeth were stained green. “This is going to be so much fun!”

Deceit nodded at him. “Welcome to the dark side.” He plucked another grape and ate it calmly as Duke decided to forgo utensils entirely and just stick his face in his slop.

Virgil wondered what, exactly, he had just gotten himself into.

Lord Huron Timeline Masterpost

Disclaimer: A lot of this information is speculation and consists of a lot of theories. Feel free to take things with a grain of salt.

Lonesome Dreams:

Setting: 19th century Wild West (some theories suggested could be the Middle East in the mid-20th century)

Characters:

Huron (main character)

Blaquefut (Huron’s best friend)

Helena (Huron’s girlfriend)

nameless Helena’s Ex (we're gonna call him Sonny for convenience)

Story: (I’m sure that most of the songs are in chronological order from the album but a few of them I believe are flashbacks so I had to move them around.)

She lit a fire/one of the best love songs ever written: The story goes earlier in the timeline technically, as it’s flashing back to how Huron met Helena. This is how the pair met. She lit his fire to travel the world or something.

Ends of the earth: early on in Huron and Helena‘s relationship. He wants to travel the world but she doesn’t so they’re kinda like “let’s split up for a bit”

Setting sun/the most mindfucking song (yes this bonus track is played at the end of the song, but hear me out ): Sonny has noticed that Helena has found someone else. They both know that Huron is better for her, but Sonny’s still pissed so he goes full yandere and chases after Huron. This story was put at the end and made “unfinished” because Sonny will always have a vendetta while Huron’s alive.

Time to run: Huron and friends are being chased by Sonny’s goons. Blaqufut gets shot in the head while helping Huron escape.

lonesome dreams: now this is a bit of a stretch, but from this theory, LD is basically purgatory and Huron travels to it to rescue Blaqufut from death.

Ghost on the shore/best song: nothing too significant to the story, it’s just Huron talking about how he misses home/the Great Lakes

I will be back one day: again, nothing much, just Huron reminiscing over Helena in pursuit to find her.

Man who lives forever: again nothing too significant, just Huron not wanting to die.

Brother: this is possibly the aftermath of an altercation between Huron and Blaqufut that they resolve. It pretty much just reaffirms their friendship.

In the wind: this one actually occurs while Huron is still on the run but from Helena’s perspective. It’s basically her reminiscing over him. I think they put this one at the end because it’s spiritually the end of the album, as it discusses how long distances and death can stop love.

Lullaby: Huron finally makes it back to Helena. He’s a complete wreck but Helena’s just happy he’s back

Sidenotes: Lonesome dreams are a collection of stories from Jorge Ranger Johnson, a writer character that Ben made up. Because of this, some of lonesome dreams might not actually be real within the universe of Lord Huron. Or they might be real events and just happened to be written about by an author.

Alternate theories suggest that Setting sun was actually about Huron the entire time and it did take place at the end of the album, causing Helena to find someone else and Huron to becoming a murderer.

One last important thing, because these are stories and might not actually occur within the universe of Lord Huron, it is possible that there is no afterlife, as suggested in later albums.

Strange Trails:

Setting:

1950s, somewhere in America.

George’s: A bar that several characters tend to spend time at (probably in reference to George Ranger Johnson)

Characters:

Frankie Lou: washed up singer who presumably had a failed romance that fucked up bad. Probably an alcoholic. Sings at George’s

Cobb Avery: zombie brought back to life out of vengeance. His family was killed because his boss gave him a piece of land on a sinkhole. leader of the “World Enders” gang. Basically a bunch of terrorists. Kills everyone from the company that sold him the house. Hangs out at George’s

Jonnie: member of the world Enders. Kind of trigger-happy in a thrill seeker. Probably one of the less malicious members of the group. Probably 19.

Buck Vernon: I also think another washed-up singer. What’s important though is that he suffers from hallucinations and is desperately trying to find the girl of his dreams.

Lily: some girl that every guy in town has the hots for. Hangs out at George’s

Jim: Lily's boyfriend. Hangs out at George’s.

Danielle: Young girl. The only child character, I’d say 11-14. Best character. You’re never too young to have an existential crisis.

Justine: not really important, presumably a writer.

Louisa: some random girl (Assuming that this theory is true, she might also be a witch and might’ve started out as an asshole, might also hang out at George’s)

There’s also some other guy but he was part of one song and it wasn’t significant so disregard him.

Story:

Love like ghosts: this is Frankie reminiscing over her failed relationship

When the night ends: Jonnie talking about appreciating the finer things in life while everything’s going to shit

Dead man’s hand/also best song: buck finds Avery presumably dead while wandering the desert. He buries him only to find out that Avery is still alive. Avery says that there’s no afterlife for him and he doesn’t want to go back in the grave. The pair become friends and go their separate ways.

Hurricane: just Johnny talking about living life on the edge

La belle fleur sauvage/the beautiful wildflower: just the lead singer gushing over Lily. The guy singing this only shows up in this song, but it’s just meant to establish that everyone has the hots for Lilly. The song could also be talking about Buck in his pursuit.

Fool for love: Buck goes to George’s to win over Lily, but Jim is already with her. Being delusional, buck tries to take on Jim (in the music video he gets Avery to fight him), he trashed the place and because of this is kicked out. He’s pretty optimistic but after this, he feels kind of defeated. (*Post-Rejection Depression Time*)

World ender: focuses on Avery‘s story. Follows him as he seeks vengeance and kills the people from the company that sold him the shitty house.

Meet me in the Woods: more of Frankie reminiscing over her failed romance

Yawning grave: (OK so this is the first big roadblock in the story, so the character that this song is about is very much left up to interpretation) I assume Avery has kind of calmed down But still intends to pursue the people that have wronged him.

Frozen Pines: (disappointingly) The only song about Danielle. Her parents were abducted by aliens in front of her. She is sort of in denial and refuses to leave where she is in the middle of the forest out of the delusion that they’ll come back. The song ends with her realizing that she has to move on as she attempts to leave the forest. (also, frozen Pines is the name of the motel so it could also just be that maybe Danielle is stuck at a motel which would honestly be kind of funny.)

Cursed/best love song ever written: Buck has found himself a new girl. However, due to previous failed romantic endeavors and hallucinations, he thinks that she’s an asshole trying to put a curse on him. (The song is presumably about Louisa. It’s entirely possible that Louisa was being manipulative but they sort things out)

Way out there: (The most difficult song to figure out) presumably about Avery. I can only best describe it as him having an existential crisis and him missing his dead family.

Louisa: after Buck was tempted to kick bricks, Louisa helped him out and gave him a newfound appreciation for life. Now they’re happy =]

Night we met: last song of Frankie reminiscing over her ex. Also, the lyric video confirms that Buck & Louisa either broke up or she was just a figment of his imagination, so uh, ya. Hopefully you weren't as emotionally invested in these characters as much as I was because that tore me a new one.

Sidenotes: this album definitely had the most interpretations. The biggest issues are the stories of yawning grave and way out there, as I am unsure that it is even about Avery. The real issue tho is the lack of songs about Danielle. Ben Come On!

There are also a couple connections between this album and the next

Vide Noir:

Setting: 1960s. Detroit & Los Angeles.

Background info: A drug called vide noir has recently been legalized. It’s basically just a hallucinogenic that destroys the fabric of reality, good times.

Characters:

Buck Vernon: Christ Ben just can’t seem to give this guy a break.

Lee Green: Buck’s new girl. Probably wants to be an actress or something.

Lady moonbeam: A medium/psychic. I think she’s black but it’s hard to tell because of the lighting.

Cobb Avery: Best Boy Electrician on “Products of the Universe” TV show. (only mentioned in 1 song)

Marsha Tanley & Dale Frander: “Products of the Universe” host; guy selling vide & its derivatives. (not in the songs)

Story:

Lost in time and space: Buck is upset because Lee left. He decides to chase after her nonetheless.

Never ever: Buck's spirits are lifted as he heads out to find Lee.

Ancient names: Buck goes to Lady Moonbeam For advice but she sees into the future and sees that Buck will become a drug addict. He’s in denial but she knows otherwise.

Wait by the river: just Buck talking about how you would do anything for Lee. Also reveals the potential of an altercation between the two of them, presumably the two of them having a fight before she left.

Secret of life: (OK this one’s a little hard, the singer is clearly Buck, but it’s hard to tell if he’s confronting either Lee or lady moonbeam) either way, whoever he is confronting has allegedly made a pact with Avery that will cause something bad to happen to Buck. Because of this, he downs a bottle of fukitol/vide noir.

Back from the edge: the MF dies but comes back (where have we seen that before)

Balancer's eye: Buck runs into God and is denied access to heaven. Either because he wasn’t supposed to die or maybe people who take drugs aren’t allowed in. Or God has really high standards and no one‘s allowed in (again, weird knowing that Blaqufut experienced purgatory and Avery said there’s no heaven at all)

When the night is over: realizing the effect of VN, Buck is becoming worried for Lee that she might overdose if he doesn’t find her soon enough

Moonbeam: Like with Louisa, Buck ran into a girl that saved him from a bad place. Hard to tell if it’s Lee (it likely isn’t because of later in the story) or lady moonbeam.

Vide Noir: Buck talking about the effects of the drug.

Emerald star/The most depressing song ever written: after doing everything he can and fucking dying, Buck finally finds Lee but he is turned down as she would rather be a junkie. It’s also possible that she might die or be dying, judging by the fact that the second half of this song is just instrumental followed by a sudden halt at the end. {Yay, I get to experience “close to you” all over again}

Sidenotes: George ranger Johnson is a spiritual advisor for the show that Avery works on.

The events of the film are claimed to come at the end/after the album.

Sometimes he is forced to reevaluate and relabel some of his files. Other times, he simply watches as they shift around on their own. He learns throughout his life that sometimes things that don't seem to have a place, are the things that belong most with him.

People come from different places, different backgrounds, and different cultures, but they can learn to like each other... sometimes with a little magical intervention and exciting adventures big and small.

He has to get somewhere safe, somewhere he can trust, and all he has is a couple of stories from his dad and a name: “Green Bellow Foods and Dispensary.”

Is There Anything Left of Patton? (Zombie AU; One-Shot Series) [Click Here]

Logan has a secret in his basement. Three months into living with him, Virgil finds that secret. He almost wishes the secret was a simple as he first thought it was. Almost.

Folds in Time Universe (Time Travel AU) [Click Here]

Janus, a disillusioned senior agent working for the Time Preservation Initiative, struggles to find meaning in a world where time travel could change everything about your life’s history in less than a moment. When time distortions start popping up, threatening the timeline and the fabric of reality as he knows it, it becomes a race against the clock to fix the damage before everything unravels. Then, he grabbed three extra pillows from the hall closet. Remy looked at him and his armful of things when he came back into the bedroom and twirled his finger around in a circle (his typical substitute for rolling his eyes).“What?” Virgil said. “He’s sick. He could be really sick. He could have pneumonia!” (One of Virgil’s kids get sick.)

Virgil Sanders died alone on a hill at the edge of town by his own hand near the end of his senior year of high school. Patton had never known him; he was also the last person to see him alive.

Despite having barely ever talked to Virgil, Patton never could get over the boy’s death and he could never get rid of the sketchbook Virgil had pressed into his hands before running off that day. It didn’t matter that the number of drawings of Patton himself was… a bit creepy given the context that they hadn’t really known each other. The sketchbook was always somehow a comfort to him.

When Patton is mortally injured, he finds himself reaching for that comfort and suddenly ends up in his old high school with a dead boy standing front of him. Now, it’s a race against the clock to survive a danger Patton had no memories of being in last time with a boy who knew more about him than he really should. If they’re fast enough, maybe this time, no one has to die.

Fear of Drowning

He’d come to the conclusion that the best way to be buried would be to be buried at sea, and it had also been the most probable conclusion anyway considering how often he was on a boat. Some omnipotent being must have a morbid sense of humor. Now he was drowning. It wasn’t the first time. When Virgil had wanted to be buried at sea, he’d anticipated being able to die.

Virgil has been assigned a mission, not particularly of his own will. Finding and delivering the Pearl of Life to it’s next owner is important enough that he’s been ‘gifted’ temporary immortality until the task is complete. This ends up being far more a curse than a benefit as he faces people who do and do not know what he’s been tasked to do. Of all things… the pirates aren’t that bad though.

After a misunderstanding, Virgil gets thrown into the most infamous prison across all of the kingdoms, where the most evil criminals are thrown to get what they deserve at the hands of nightmarish creatures from the void. Luckily (for once) Virgil really didn’t deserve it. Trusting that this isn’t just a cruel trick and he isn’t actually going to be tortured though is going to take a while. (In which Patton is a eldritch horror, telepathic nightmare, and still is the sweetest thing on the planet and off it.)

You I’ll Come Back For: (Complete) They’d met in a jail cell, you see, but unlike now Patton had not been anywhere near trapped, not that Virgil had been aware of that fact. He’d just seen his sweet little cell mate who’d clearly not done anything to deserve being on that side of the bars. Virgil had said “What did you do to get stuck in this joint?” and Patton had started crying. It had taken zero lies and five hours for Patton to coax out the information he’d needed. He’d thought when he’d pranced up to the bars and told Roman he was ready to leave that the absolutely astonished expression which was quickly slipping into fury would be the last thing he’d ever see of the man whose crimes numbered enough to keep him in prison for the rest of his life. He’d escaped during his transfer to federal prison. (This was a dice fic. It also appears below!)

Touch Me Gently: (Complete) He had a total of four soulmarks: not an unheard-of thing, but rather rare. There were purple fingerprints on his wrist, looking like a day-old bruise from where someone had grabbed him too hard. What his mother had seen when he’d entered the kitchen was actually two soulmarks that overlapped slightly: a light blue one that darkened his lips and a yellow handprint that covered the lower parts of his cheek and jaw. The ring finger and the tip of the pinkie hit his lip, mixing with the blue to look like a sickly greenish-yellow bruise. What his dad had seen peaking out of the top of his t-shirt was a dark blue mark in the shape of fingers around his neck. Roman had been overjoyed when he realized what the marks were after the initial confusion. His parents had been a little less enthusiastic. (Roman meets his soulmates one-by-one and it’s not at all what everyone assumed when they first saw his soulmarks.)

Labeled Universe (A Superhero AU)

Sometimes Labels Fail: (Complete) Logan was good at labels, at categories. But… but what was he supposed to do with him. Moral Dilemmas: (Complete) “But that doesn’t make any sense!” he yelled.| “Patton,” Remus said evenly.|“It doesn’t!” he screamed turning on him viciously. “There’s a big difference between not being sad someone’s dead and… and… and no! No! I wouldn’t be okay with seeing someone I hated die. I wouldn’t!”| “Yes, you would,” Remus said, standing up himself. He pointed an accusatory finger at him. “You would! And you know you would! Do you think you are the only one who can get a read on another side when functions cross? Those thoughts in your head are my domain and I knew exactly what you were feeling when I asked that question!” Virgil was forcibly summoned immediately, eyes wide. Patton and Remus have a philosophical discussion and then will have to deal with the fall out.

5. You I’ll Come Back For: (Complete) They’d met in a jail cell, you see, but unlike now Patton had not been anywhere near trapped, not that Virgil had been aware of that fact. He’d just seen his sweet little cell mate who’d clearly not done anything to deserve being on that side of the bars. Virgil had said “What did you do to get stuck in this joint?” and Patton had started crying. It had taken zero lies and five hours for Patton to coax out the information he’d needed. He’d thought when he’d pranced up to the bars and told Roman he was ready to leave that the absolutely astonished expression which was quickly slipping into fury would be the last thing he’d ever see of the man whose crimes numbered enough to keep him in prison for the rest of his life. He’d escaped during his transfer to federal prison.

6. The Horror of Stereotypes: (Complete) There had always been a certain stereotype about people like him for as long as anyone could remember. After the Heart War of 1963, those stereotypes had been legalized and places like this had been created to enforce the universal truth: everyone had a soulmate. One soulmate. No more and no less. At least they were supposed to. When Remus’s brother gets arrested because of his two soulmarks, Remus risks everything by infiltrating the facility he legally should be in as well due to his own two soulmates to save him. There he meets Logan and it turns out they have a lot in common: they both got hired this week, they both have two soulmates, and they’re both here for the same reason. Oh. And as it turns out, they’re each other’s soulmates too.
