AARAVOS EX HUSBAND
THEORY TIME
i’m thinking about how
the creators said in TDP season 5, there’s gonna be an emotional scene involving aaravos
that there’s a location on the map indicating someone very important to aaravos.
we’re also gonna get a flashback to how aaravos got captured this season,…
like dude… did aaravos get betrayed by his lover?
Tumblr media
bc for 1. aaravos is not gonna have a reason to emotionally vulnerable around anyone else he covers everything up with charm and bullshit. so clearly an emotional scene would involve Someone very close to him
2. aaravos was betrayed and imprisoned by a coalition of powerful elves and arch dragons by sneak attacking him in a situation where he would have his guard down
3. aaravos is the only startouch elf known to take an interest in humanity and xadia so it’s probably not blood family of any sort
Tumblr media
4. shots of past aaravos have him with horn cuffs on, which are akin to rings on human hands- both for jewelry purposes and, more importantly, said to signify meaningful relationship-status gifts. sure, it could just be jewelry, but, there’s a location on the map important to aaravos. 2+2= aaravos’s ex-husband? (or wife or spouse who knows but idk im thinking man)
Tumblr media
i say ex because
aaravos has horn cuffs on. in the shot of the leaders of elves.
Tumblr media
but he doesn’t. in the shot of his being betrayed.
Tumblr media
or in prison. he likely threw them off in a fit of anger at betrayal by Someone Very Close To Him. basically, divorce?
Tumblr media
if so dude must be pissed and ready for revenge fr 🙏
ofc
alternatively
Tumblr media Tumblr media
besides losing his horn cuffs, he also got unadorned with the tiara and other jewelry on his arms and legs
so maybe it was just stripping him of his gifts of status and adoration?? and he doesn’t have an ex lover?
although those could also be gifts from his lover idk man
hennceee just because it would just make things a little more exciting i think aaravos probably has an ex husband who maybe he had to lie to while secretly manipulating xadia, who helped trapped him in the mirror, and who he’s been pissed at for 300 years
aaand i think yeah yeah yeah jack conte pairs really well with this idea herjfjdnfmsmsk

I was watching Reel james interview with Aaron and there he pointed out that in the scene where we learn about Aaravos' prision, there's actually a giant corpse burried there. It was a hidden element and apparently important to the story, enough to be connected to Aditi being "swalloed" but not in the way we might think! I feel like we might know who that corpse belonged to, so I'd like to connect the dots and present to you all my theory.
Being straight foward, who do i think that corpse belongs to? Leola. Why? And why that matters? I'll present my case:
I think that the Startouches are Gods that created the world of Xadia, both human, dragons and elves. Aaravos and Leola were close to one another (as friends, family or lovers?), but Leola was the first one out of the two to pity the humans. Leola cared for humanity and Aaravos cared about Leola. Leola then decides to help the humans, maybe she tried to act under the radar and disguised herself as a unicorn, so the others Startouches wouldn't find out about this, as the humans were MEANT to be weak and suffer.
But soon after, they find out that Leola gave humanity magic, and decided to punish her for it, leading to her death? And because Aaravos was close to her, but not the one that defied their plans, he was spared by the others, but casted out to the world of Xadia, unable to go back to his people, and stripped away from his original status and power. Filled with bitterness, he plotted his revenge, to undo and destroy all of the other Startouches creation from inside out, by the hands of humanity, the ones that Leola pitied, the ones that the others despised, and in the process he got closer to humanity, learned their culture, their ways of doing things, he learned the love that Leola held for those creatures. She was prometheus and he was Lucifer!
If it wasn't obvious, I think the Startouch can shapeshift, I think they're actually massive beings, and both the skelleton and the statues are actually their original sizes!
Some of it is just pure headcanons because I don't have strong evidences, but here is what I do have:
Recently we learned from Aaron that the Startouch elf we see in the opening is actually named Leola!
Tumblr media
It came as a surprise because Leola was also described as a unicorn, but not just any unicorn, the very one that gifted humans with primal magic. This is information comes from Tales of Xadia Handbook:
Tumblr media
And when I read that tweet from Aaron, I immediately went to check that info on Leola, because I never actually read the handbook, and I was puzzled when I found a screenshot of that text and also the information on the wiki about unicorns, because in both wiki and the handbook is only written that "the elves" warned the unicorns, but WHICH elves? I distincly had the memory of it being the FIRST elves (aka, Startouch Elves), and then today I remembered where that info came from!! Is from book one: moon prologue!
Tumblr media
Previously I theorized that "Ripples" is not a story about how humans came to wield Dark magic, but actually a story BEFORE they even learn that. The reason for that is the choice of words used to describe the magic.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
"Precious primal flames" "undeserved power", such words used to describe what they had and what was destroyed. And then there's the implication that Aaravos' plan was to have the destruction of the Startouch empire come from the hands of the very humans they once despised so much.
The next logical thing to get from Ripples was that it described the birth of the Sea of the castout, caused by none other than Aaravos falling from the sky! The short story describes a small star falling down, changing the world, birthing a new sea.
Tumblr media
It HAD to be Aaravos right? He's a fallen star! But he wasn't the one that gifted humanity with primal magic, through primal stones. He was the one that gave them the Dark magic. Back then I thought that maybe he was the one to do it, but if Leola and Aaravos are connected, then ripples might be about Leola's passing/falling.
Cookiesaddict made a post pointing out the possible connections of Aaravos and Leola, you should read it, but to summarize the points. Once in the NYCC this question was made:
Tumblr media
Cookie suggested that this person might be Leola. During the S5 watch party I asked Devon if the Statues in the Sea of the cast out were made before or after Aaravos was impriosioned, because people were wondering why the hell would the prision have that GIGANT STATUE almost screaming: HEY, AARAVOS IS HERE!! COME GET HIM!! and this was the response!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now, we see that statue both in the show and as a sketch, the other elf is known as "The merciful One" as disclosed by Aaron on twitter. BUT HMMMM THAT SKETCH.... LOWKEY REMINDS ME OF... THIS SKETCH....
Tumblr media
The one from Ripples!!
Personally I think in S6 Aaravos will tell Viren about Leola, and maybe through that story we'll find out why the hell did Aaravos insisted on having Viren to live until the end, and how their themes/motives are actually more similar than we thought it was. It's not about power, but about what they'll do to save/avenge their loved ones, their family. I also read a theory that the sparklepuff sacrifice was a test on Aaravos part, while I do think that with the theory of mine it might make sense, I also fail to see why would he go to such an extent to test Viren? Maybe Aaravos realizing that Viren is much more of a family driven man than he already knew he was (as he mentioned he wouldn't expect him to sacrifice Claudia or Soren) will be the thing to trigger their interactions where Aaravos tells him about Leola. As things stands now, Viren is the only logical character to be the narrative tool in which Aaravos shares his side of the story. They're the one that have the most intimacy for him to be "vulnerable", and perhaps their final departure will come from Viren trying to talk Aaravos out of his path of revenge, to share the realizations he had with his nightmares, ohhh my god, can you imagine, Aaravos finally is vulnerable, finally shares about Leola, shares his grief, to the one he thought might understand, because they're similar, but Viren is too far into his search for personal redemption, and belittlethe bitterness Aaravos held in for so long. Super ultra gay divorce is coming (in my delusions).

Aaravos/the merciful one theory
TDP - Aaravos/The merciful one theory
Part 1
We’ve all been asking ourselves the same daunting question, who are they?
They’ve only been seen twice; in the statue with Aaravos, and a leaked image from s6 ep1. Known by the tital ‘the merciful one’, we know nothing about this seemingly important character, who may be a significant part of Aaravos’s backstory. I have some thoughts in which I am here to share.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
At this point in time, I'm sure everybody has seen a glimpse of these leaked season 6 images floating around the internet; and everyone can't help but wonder what may be happening in this scene. While there are so many thrilling possibilities to what is amidst, I have crumpled together bits and pieces of engaging ideas and intriguing thoughts to form my theory on who this mysterious person might be. A daughter; specifically Aravos's daughter.
Let's start our story here, with this picture:
Tumblr media
In this image, it looks as though Aaravos is pleading with someone. Asking, or perhaps begging them for/to do something. Seeing as though the other person is referred to as 'the merciful one' maybe he's asking them to spare the humans, saving an enter race doomed to be disposed of seems quite merciful.
My reasoning for saying Aaravos's daughter instead of a lover, friend, or possibly another leader, is because of this:
Tumblr media
This post does say 'the' elven leader, and not 'an' meaning it could refer to someone such as Aditi. As well as the fact that this passage only refers to this person with the pronouns she/her, while the merciful one is confirmed non-binary and uses they/them. Still, we do not know who the writing was talking of before this part; meaning if they were speaking of Aaravos, the term 'the elven leader' still stands.
So even with new information that might prove this theory false, it still provides some interesting ideas.
------------------------------
Part 2
My friend (@6coco_nut9 on tiktok) originally thought of some of this, luv ya brah <3
If you look at the pictures at the top of the page, you can see that Aaravos is in fact NOT crying in front of the merciful one, as the silhouette in front of him has long hair and tmo has short hair.
If you look closely at the silhouette with Aaravos, you will notice some things:
Similar colors in different lighting
Same ear placement
And the gold accent on their clothing next to the hair (which Aaravos has in the same spot)
This leads me to believe that Aaravos is looking at a reflection of himself (this is where Coco's idea comes in); and that maybe Aaravos is having a flashback to this moment:
Tumblr media
He's looking at his reflection in the water when tmo comes into play. This ties into the 'tmo is Aaravos's daughter theory' as maybe he is crying because he is asking for help.
-------------------------------
BONUS THEORY!
Tumblr media
(For context, this is Aaravos’s voice actor)
Leola is Aaravos’s mother. Change my mind.

I have been thinking a bit and I need to get the chaos thoughts out of my head
I absolutely LOVE the scene with the two statues
(here it is but enhanced so we can see their expressions better)
Tumblr media
it's safe to assume that the kneeling elf is Aaravos due to the horns and long hair (and also he looks pretty fallen lmao) (also the rocks behind him kinda look like wings laying motionless so that just enforces my lucifer-aaravos connection, but it's probably just brain being weird)
Here's the credit's art of the same scene
Tumblr media
My line of thinking starts from the thing where creators said that there would be an emotional Aaravos scene in season five... But Aaravos didn't seem that emotional did he? Like during the whole episode where he was there, he's just confidently smirking the whole time. Even when Viren yells that he is done with him, he just kinda goes 🤨
I reckon that it's the statues that hold the emotional weight. There's Aaravos, hiding his face, he seems shameful. His expression is nowhere near his usual smirk. And then there's another elf who seems to be trying to help him? To help him raise back up?
We don't know who the other elf is, but they're not stepping down on Aaravos like it would be expected. They also seem sorrowful, or concerned.
I remember this Tumblr post about the theory that Aaravos had a lover before his fall (here's the link)
Could Aaravos' old lover be the stone elf? Only someone close to Aaravos would want to help the fallen startouched elf who clearly did some bad shit, and Aaravos doesn't seem cocky or confident, he's shameful, he doesn't want the other elf to see him like this.
Did Aaravos refuse the helping hand? Did he refuse redemption?
And why would they even make a statue of that? Pretty sure the goal was to erase Aaravos from everywhere possible. Why make a statue that portrays him in an okay-ish light?
But also this theory would mean that Aaravos' ex lover was a woman and I don't know how to feel about non-gay Aaravos /j

Listen!!! The creators of the dragon prince said Aaravos lost someone to make him into who he is today (cannon). Why did NONE OF US THINK OF THE ORIGINAL DARK MAGE!!??? Especially because it’s HEAVILY implied aaravos gave him that staff. What if that was Aaravos’s best friend or lover??
PLEASE lmk your theories in the comments!!

thinking about the dragon prince notes for me
If he was more like Prometheus , in way it match in some way when comes to the confinement, so i am thinking i am new to tdp, and i also think he Erebus, I am stuck within my own theory i read some where that either erebus or prometheus child and wife was sacifaced but now cant find it that info, and i am thinking what if aaravos family was sacifaced. I wish i have like timestamp what took place because was the city of elarion if the human was banish did the those residents stay there, i have so many questions.
I also think the queen orphan is queen aditi, it did sound like aaravos told khessa that she human the question i dont understand he said something about the same fate did he actually kill khessa or change her to human, and he seem to have this grudge against queen aditi maybe due to exile of the human race.
I also think aaravos is also like lucifer who wants to be worship, aaravos is the strongest we know so far and that can be boost is ego to the point every other evles in his way like zeus was jealous of anyone has the potential to surpase him
PS i am new to tdp i am writing my thoughts on and i have alot questions if someone want to help out asking that be great. and another note aaravos and madara almost seem the same to me idk why. Khessa means mankind, great lover and optmistic
I also think he taught humans how to do magic but dark magic i heard he didnt taught, it was discovered he was blame for it, and unicorn went extinct due to dark magic to help the ppl in elarion if it true that Aaravos meaning between light and dark.

I've been looking back at this whole poem about this 'Elarion' character and just the poem itself (as well as some of the disappearing book entries) in TDP
And you wanna know my two cents on it???
People say this 'Elarion' might've been in a romantic relationship with Aaravos, but think a lil' deeper:
Elarion was likely worshiping Aaravos like some god or smth,,, like in a twisted way, with sacrifices and whatnot (aka; not romantic love),,, sorta starting like a Dark Magic Cult™ yknow??? I mean,,, Aaravos LIKELY helped Elarion discover dark magic... So, she likely has to give something in return for her thanks, right?
Also, one of the texts that Viren looked for during s2 (which had sadly vanished as soon as he laid eyes on it), translated into like... A journal entry of a sort. If you want links I'll try to find some of these posts bc it's late and im a lil' lazy to post them in this post.

Aaravos and the Orphan Queen
This is my theory on Aaravos' past and also the founding of Katolis - I suspect Aaravos and the Orphan Queen, the first ruler of Katolis, were actually in love those centuries ago.
Most of Xadia's inhabitants treated humans badly because they viewed them as 'lesser beings' as Sol Regem said, so Aaravos, tired of how his love was being treated, gave humans Dark Magic as a way to fend for themselves. That included giving the Dark Mage Ziard the staff that would one day become Viren's.
Then the encounter between Ziard and Sol Regem happens, humans are banished to the west, Aaravos is furious and heartbroken and then his involvement comes out. The newly crowned Dragon King Avizandum puts him in a prison and there he stays for the next few centuries.
But on his lover's side? If they truly did love each other and trusted each other, then it stands to reason that whatever the Key of Aaravos does, he gave it to her when humans were banished maybe as a form of protection, or he told her to try and return to Xadia and use it (Harrow did say it 'unlocks something of great power in Xadia') and she never managed anything of the sort in her lifetime, but she passed it down to her descendants. She probably told them what it meant as well but that part was lost over the centuries. Maybe it's called the Key of Aaravos because it's the key to freeing him, only she never figured out how to make it work because he didn't get a chance to tell her.
So Callum having it now, and likely becoming the first person since Aaravos to master all the primal sources, could possibly also mean he discovers the long-buried secrets of the Orphan Queen.
On top of that, if Aaravos and the Orphan Queen were romantically involved they would be an excellent foil for Rayllum, especially if something happens (temporarily of course!!) to Rayla which opens up an opportunity for Callum to parallel Aaravos further, the way he did with Viren (check out @raayllum 's numerous brilliant metas to read more about that) in how they react to losing the love of their life or how they deal with the racial prejudice. If they play it right and parallel these two with Rayllum, showing how such a romance can end in disaster in a world that's divided by prejudice but rise above dissenters in a world that's healing with these two leading the way, it will be absolutely amazing. On top of that, I'd be overjoyed to see Rayllum being determined not to let history repeat itself, not to let that happen to them too.
Something Aaravos said in S2 E9 stuck out to me as funny in terms of typical villain speeches. He said, 'Those who fail tests of love are simple animals. They deserve to be motivated by fear.' In other words, he'll try the love route first, and if they don't agree he turns to fear because people who don't understand love aren't worth any kindness or mercy. That particularly emerged clearly for me in the words 'simple animals'.
Aaravos seems to view love as something special, something higher, something that, although people should understand it, they often don't. Could this be because of the way he and his love (especially her, I'd guess, as a human, compared to Aaravos being an elven mage who wielded all six primal sources) were treated by prejudiced people who didn't understand? Centuries in a prison with nobody to talk to would certainly give anyone time to think about their past and become bitter about it.
While this is all still fairly wild speculation, I hope I've hit on something at least mildly accurate and I can't wait for these secrets to be uncovered over the next few seasons!

What Time Forgot Chapter 3
Aaravos x reader
Summary: Being recognized leads to some arguments with literal children
Word Count: 2076
As she’d expected, they made great time. They were only a few miles away by the time night fell. Much to Y/N’s surprise, it was Aaravos that suggested they stop for the night.
“Are you alright? You hate stopping this close to a destination,” she asked, dismounting her horse so she could sit next to where he’d taken up residence on a rock.
“I am better than I have been in decades now that I am back at your side, dearest. I wanted to talk before I met my adopted children, as it were. Is that alright?”
She pressed a kiss to his hand after lacing her fingers through his. “Of course.”
So they just … talked for a while. If she closed her eyes, she could almost pretend they were back in their study in Xadia, especially when he moved to rest his head on her lap and allowed her to play with his hair. They shared stories from their time apart. Well, she mostly talked since he was locked away in a magic mirror that whole time. The moon was high in the sky, and the stars were doing their best to replicate Aaravos’s skin by the time they decided to actually get up and make camp.
Of course, that didn’t mean they actually made camp. That’d been the plan right up until two children and a tiny dragon barged into the clearing. In the span of a heartbeat, both adults were on their feet, Y/N crouched and ready for attack and Aaravos already having drawn the symbol for an area lightning spell.
“Whoa!” the boy that Y/N now recognized as Callum exclaimed, hands up in surrender.
The young Moonshadow elf that accompanied him was in a similar pose until she recognized the make of the dagger pointed at her. “That’s a Moonshadow blade …”
“Y/N?” Callum gasped.
“You know these children?” Aaravos inquired, glancing at the woman crouched in front of him.
“I know him.” She stood and put away the blade, prompting her lover to dispel the crackling rune. “Callum, what are you doing here? Everyone’s been worried.”
“We’re trying to return Zym to his mother. This is Rayla, by the way. What are you doing so far from the castle? And who is that?” The underlying ‘What is he?’ didn’t go unnoticed by either adult.
Rayla’s lavender eyes narrowed as she stared at Aaravos. “I know you …” she muttered.
“Of me, perhaps, but I can assure you that we have never met.”
“He’s a Startouch elf, Callum,” Rayla explained.  “They’re all but extinct. The last one anyone knew about was said to be a traitor to Xadia. Helped the humans fight against his homeland.”
“To be fair,” Callum started, seeming a little worried about angering his friend, “we’re both kind of doing the same thing …”
Her face scrunched up in displeasure at thethought. “But we’re trying to bring peace, not betray Xadia or Katolis!”
“Who’s to say that I didn’t try the same?” Aaravos countered, crossing his arms.
“Everyone!” Rayla shouted. “They taught us all about you. You helped push the humans out of our lands in the first place, then bought a human woman back, then betrayed us to fight for their cause!”
“Wait what? I thought elves hated humans?” Confusion was all over Callum’s face.
“Most do,” the young Moonshadow elf replied. “So you’ve found another one, then? Planning to bring her back, too? Or are you planning on betraying us again?”
A white eyebrow raised while Aaravos looked unimpressed. “I am not the one planning our moves currently. One thing I will not allow, though, is you slandering her.”
“Yeah, Rayla. Y/N’s always been really nice to Ez and me,” Callum argued. “She wouldn’t do anything to make the war worse.”
“Well?” Rayla’s lavender eyes turned to stare at Y/N. “Are you going to say anything for yourself?”
“Okay,” she shrugged, moving to sit back down on the ground. She didn’t bother to hide the smile on her face as the Startouch elf took a seat next to her a bit too close to be completely innocent. “First off, I was the human that lived in Xadia so long ago, so that whole ‘tricked another human’ theory isn’t a thing. We’d been together for years, and it looks like the count is still going. Also, I’d appreciate it if you stopped acting like I’m ‘easily fooled’ or whatever.”
“But—and I’m choosing to ignore the whole ‘you’re super old’ thing—why would you guys be, like, together?” Callum’s face scrunched up at the thought. “Wasn’t that a big no-no during the war?”
“To say the least,” Aaravos said coldly. Last time Y/N heard his voice sound that frosty was the day they heard the details of the treaty. “However, I would think you two of all people wouldn’t be questioning relations of any kind between elves and humans.” He’d noticed the way that Rayla had moved to protect the human boy when they initially stepped into the clearing; it was just a little too similar to the way that Y/N had moved to guard him.
“Aaravos,” Y/N’s voice was warning, “they’re just children. It’s a wonder that they aren’t more intolerant given their upbringing. Let them be.”
The only response verbally was a hum, but Y/N knew him well enough to see that he was annoyed at their relationship being questioned. It was something that’d always angered him, and that didn’t seem to have changed due to their time apart. That little fact warmed her heart a bit.
“As for your other claims,” Y/N continued, “we were neutral for many years. Our actions were not driven out of anger or a want to betray Xadia. It was mostly because we were tired of the hatred. I was mocked and threatened endlessly in our own village, and we would have been run out of any town in any human kingdom had we decided to settle there. Mind you, I’m not a mage nor have I ever violated the natural magics to anger the elves around us, so I’d done nothing other than simply be a human to spark the hatred aimed at me.”
“Okay, okay, we get it,” Callum interjected, ending the uncomfortable argument. “Rayla, we need to rest if we’re going to make it to Xadia tomorrow.”
Yellow eyes narrowed at the imploring look Y/N gave him. He knew that look. “What are you thinking?” Whatever it was, he knew he wouldn’t like it.
“They’re trying to bring peace, Aaravos. We should help them.”
“We don’t need a traitor’s help,” Rayla snarled.
“See? They don’t want our help, dearest. What about your adopted charges?”
“Soren and Claudia can handle themselves for now. I can’t just let something this important slip by. We’re walking, talking examples of how elves and humans aren’t predestined to fight.”
“They could help, Rayla,” Callum argued for them. “As much trouble as we’ve had … If he’s as dangerous as you say, it’d be a lot easier to get around.”
Rayla groaned, clearly hating that her friend had a point. “Why should we trust them? How do we know he won’t betray us like he did Xadia?”
“How many times do I have to say it? We both did that,” Y/N pointed out.
“You shouldn’t,” Aaravos spoke at the same time. Voice smooth as silk and as casual as someone talking to an old friend, he added, “You should let me earnyour trust. Besides, anywhere she goes, I go. You don’t have to trust me in order to trust that.”
“Okay, I’ll believe that.” That was as close as they were getting to acceptance, so it worked for them.
The grin that formed on her face was something that Y/N didn’t bother to hide. “Great! We’ll set out at dawn, then.”
“There is still a problem, dearest,” Aaravos sighed, unhappy to be the one poking holes in the plan that clearly made her happy. “You were banished forever. As soon as you’re recognized, you’ll be arrested. Normally I would say that it is not an issue—elvish memories are long, but I doubt you would be recognized on-sight—but with me . . . The pair of us are easy to remember if we’re together.”
Rayla found herself more than a little jealous of the affection that was practically tangible between the two. In recent days, it was something she’d been craving from Callum, even more so since his whole Dark Magic episode. After being told her whole life about how terrible humans were, liking the prince was weird enough. Then add the existing relationship between an elf and a human … Basically there was just a storm of emotions and hormones in her with jealousy at the heart.
“I don’t care, ‘Vos,” Stef was saying. “We’ll be fine. I won’t get arrested, and you won’t be put back in that mirror. Who knows, maybe the queen will end the sentences if we help return her son.”
“As long as you know the risks.”
“Okay!” Callum chimed in again. “So we’re camping here with you, then?”
“Sure,” the Crownguard chuckled. “We were just about to settle in when you guys showed up, anyway. I’ll send a note to the town for Soren in the morning.”
With that, a few minutes later the group was settled in on opposite sides of the clearing. Rayla was on a lower branch of a tree, Callum on the ground below her. The Moonshadow elf watched the other pair lie down after Y/N had written the aforementioned note. They used his fancy cloak as a blanket, and held each other close. Apparently, they either didn’t realize or didn’t care that her trained assassin ears could hear their quiet whispers even across the clearing.
The answer was that neither Y/N nor Aaravos really cared. They were just happy to be together again, and it wasn’t like they weren’t used to being overheard anyway. After all, war camps just off the front lines didn’t make for many private conversations.
“Any chance you learned how to tone down the glowing while you were locked in that mirror?” Y/N teased, tracing the glowing star on his chest that was left exposed y his shirt.
That pulled a real, mirth-filled chuckle out of the elf. “Sadly no, though not due to lack of trying.” He turned his head to press a kiss to the crown of her head.
She turned to look up at his face. “Are you serious?”
“Well after years of your whining and nothing better to do, I looked into the matter.”
“You know I’m always joking about that, right? I don’t ever want you to change something like that for me.”
“I am aware. But I also remember how there were days when you were suffering from your headaches and how hit physically hurt you to open your eyes around me.” He kept speaking, cutting off her argument, “And it was the only way I could remain close to you. The king thought that my punishment would be more severe if there was no trace of you there.”
Effectively silenced on the matter, Y/N just kissed the underside of his jaw. There was a long moment of silence before she decided what to say. “The scar you asked about, the one on my neck … Not long after you were taken, a group of soldiers ambushed me. They wanted me to pay, I guess, for my relationship with you. When they realized I had no money, they tried to take the ring.” Reflexively, she adjusted the ring on her finger. “I managed to win, but I was wounded. I made it back to the castle, and spent the next year in and out of the hospital because of it.”
“You … were willing to die for a ring?” he questioned.
“No. I was willing to die for the last reminder I had of you. So I get it. I had to do what I could to keep you close to me too.”
It was his turned to be stunned into silence, and by the time he decided what to say, he could feel that her breathing had leveled out, signaling that she’d nodded off. He figured the eventful day finally caught up with her. “I love you,” he whispered futilely, yellow eyes gazing up at the stars.
A/N: Okay, that’s all I’ve got on this one for the time being. Might eventually pick it back up if the mood arises, but who knows. It’ll be updated on the masterlist if I do add more and I forget to delete this little note. This note is as of 28 May 2019, so you have a time frame to help you decide to check the list or not.

Elarion’s Depiction (An Aaravos Arabic Poem + Book 3 Analysis)
This is a take debunking most common interpretations of Elarion’s poem. Most commonly, the fandom perceives Elarion as a human girl. Which, to be honest, I thought was the case, but was not. So, I will clear it all up.
For those of you who have seen Season 3, you already know. But either way, I wanted to show the relation between what had been expressed in the poem, and how it relates to what we saw in the third season. [Link to the original translated Midnight Star poem]
Right away at the beginning, the setting had already been established from the first stanza throughout. It uses words such as “seeds,” “roots,” and “flower,” among many. This earthly diction signifies that the setting is in earth. The setting is also established through the imagery from the grimlike diction with the words “night,” “deadly,” “death,” and more.
The poem has a main striking feature: its emphasis on Elarion’s struggle. We notice right away that Elarion is referred to as a person with she/her pronouns. Alongside that earthly diction, it would be speculated that “Elarion” could be a human mage, particularly connected with the Arcanum of Earth. The tone written on “Elarion” and her relation to Earth is shown as nurturing and protective, as seen in the first stanza:
Elarion, seeds trembling
Lying on the ground on an icy night.
And in the cold
[She] withdrew her roots
Challenging the sting of the deadly winter.
Also from line 6 of the poem implies this theme of nurturing:
Elarion, and her blooming flower,
I believe that the idea of “nurturing” the Earth would be greatly connected to the Earth Arcanum, since it is a source of Primal Magic, which is why this initially gave me the impression of Elarion having been the first human mage. But there is more.
In addition, the poem declaring Elarion’s connection to Aaravos easily leads to the speculation that “she” could possibly be Aaravos’ former lover. But, that is not the case in line 11:
Elarion, the frightened foundling
Elarion is referred to as a foundling, meaning “an infant that has been abandoned by its parents and is discovered and cared for by others.” And it fits perfectly, as that “carer” would then be Aaravos.
Now, this would imply that Elarion was orphaned. To clarify, this is not to be mixed with the Orphan Queen, since Elarion emerged 2,000 years prior to the events of the series, while the Orphan Queen emerged 300 years before. [x]
So this is where it gets interesting. Going back to the first stanza again, we note the diction pertaining to the cold via the words “icy,” “trembling,” and “winter.” And in the second stanza, the phrase “her blooming flower, afraid of wilting, darkness and death,” heavily implied that the cold caused Elarion’s life to slowly deteriorate.
Starting to sound familiar? If not, think of the reason why Ziard and his followers came to practice dark magic. His home was falling into starvation. What could possibly the reason for it? A dark, grueling, winter. Crops and food sources were barely surviving under the dangerously low temperatures.
To put it simply, Elarion was a city. This means that the author of the poem decided to use personification to refer to Elarion. Think of how throughout history, countries and places have been referred to as a male or a female figure. And Elarion was personified as a “motherland,” hence the use of she/her pronouns as identifiers. Now, I know the term motherland is defined as “one’s native country,” whilst Elarion was not. But you get the idea of the personification aspect.
Returning to the poem, the diction of earth, alongside the indication of suffering under the winter was a metaphor for a famine, synonymous with starvation. The people of Elarion were dying of hunger. Ziard, within any means necessary, searched for a way to save his people. The “spark” on line 9 alludes to his newfound use of dark magic.
The mood on the second stanza exudes a feeling of shock, especially on line 10 that states, “And so the eyes of the hungry dragon flared,” indicating Sol Regem’s anger due to the human use of dark magic.
...But why refer to Elarion as a “foundling?” was the author pitying Elarion due to its weak and fragile state, or that it had been a relatively new city? But then it wouldn’t really have made sense since Elarion rose a thousand years before humans began using dark magic. So we’re not so sure as of now.
Tumblr media
Stanzas 3 and 4 are self-explanatory. Elarion sought help from the Startouch Elves, but had ignored their pleas. The reason for that might not only be because of the Elves’ alliance with the dragons, but the fact that Startouch Elves have a “detached, big picture of the world,” meaning they had an objective view of what was happening and cared less of what occurred on Earth. This also possibly meant that the Startouch Elves didn’t save Elarion because the deemed it as insignificant in the eye of history, or “the big picture.” [x]
And as we all know, all but one turned back on Elarion, which was Aaravos, who donned Ziard his staff and the art of dark magic. The concept of dark magic is notably referred to with fire-like imagery with the words “spark,” “fire,” “light,” and “black flame.”
Also on the following two lines, note the words “light” and “night” juxtapose each other. As if saying that Elarion, once a kind and flourishing city, skewed their morals by accepting dark magic.
Elarion, and her blinding light,
Embraced the great black flame of night.
...And what would Elarion’s “blinding light” possibly mean? It is a metaphor for something for sure, but what it means isn’t clear (I’d appreciate comments if you have theories on this one!).
Recall the pattern with the use of diction pertaining to darkness. Some irony can be noted especially on where Elarion was written to wither and suffer “in the dark” (Stanza 5, line 23), but then was written that the city “embraced the great black flame of night” (Stanza 6, line 28). As if saying Elarion suffered “in the dark” against its will, but now embraces dark magic by accepting Aaravos’ gift.
Right after Elarion pledges loyalty to Aaravos in the last stanza, notice lines 32 and 33:
Elarion, black-eyed child,
her twisted roots spread deep and far,
See “black-eyed child” on line 32. Again, the author of the poem vividly personifies Elarion, giving “her” physical attributes. But since Elarion was a city, that couldn’t be literally possible at all. Or is it? ...Well, the phrase is most likely a strong metaphor for when one uses dark magic. A prime example:
Tumblr media
Of course, this “black-eyed child” isn’t only referring to Ziard, who, is presumably from Elarion himself. Sol Regem did briefly mention that Ziard had followers (see Book 3, Episode 1). So instead, Elarion being referred to as a “black-eyed child” could collectively refer to all those who practiced dark magic— presumably all of which came from the city, which was the birthplace of dark magic.
Moving on to line 33, we see the earthlike diction appearing again through the phrase “twisted roots.” Toward the end of the poem, those roots have been twisted. The word twisted is a connotation not just referring to “twisted roots” in a literal sense, but really refer to Elarion corrupting its own values for dark magic, hence the term.
A quick note: remember how I mentioned in the beginning of the post about Elarion and the theme of nurturing, and how the text implied that “she” was the “first human mage?” Because it is true. Elarion was the birthplace of where humans were able to use [dark] magic.
In addition, Elarion’s “roots” were first introduced in the beginning stanza. The roots may be a metaphor for Elarion’s capability to live and withhold itself. As though saying, “the city was once weak; but with its roots ‘spreading deep and far’ through dark magic, Elarion’s strength had increased tenfold.” As such expressed in the last three lines of the poem:
The humans’ might
sparked by the light
of Aaravos, her midnight star.

Heyy! im a fellow aaravos lover here, and i wanted to know what ur theories are on what exactly aaravos is gonna do once hes free from the prison??? cuz like, i feel as though if ur trapped in a prison, ur obvi gonna want to escape but like what exactly is his "evil plan" once he escapes??? he created dark magic to help humans and saw humans as "worthy" and gifted humans elarion, so i dont feel like he'll try to atk the humans??? does he want to rule and conquer xadia, or is there a bigger sneakier plan?? idk i just want to hear ur thoughts on the matter!
hmm. i think he doesn’t have much reason to rule the world himself, as if he wanted to, he would have already had the chance, being born as a sort of god in the natural order.
when it comes to his motives, based on his dialogue and reflections, i think he’s trying to have another go at what he originally went for: chaos over xadia, upsetting the other stars
-getting rid of the most powerful creatures in the world (archdragons) & leaders overall
-corrupting magic and upsetting the natural order (gave humans dark magic to create ‘ripples’) for 1. giving humanity the upper hand bc he admires their creativity and resourcefulness, & 2. as payback
he may eventually have enough power via corrupted magic or whatever to face the other startouch elves again and maybe even capture them and make them servants to humanity as payback- genies of a sort.
as for attacking humanity, with how things are going and how some humans are willing to sacrifice themselves for archdragons (which is far from the perfect storm he had prepared earlier—where dragon-hating humanity was separated from all the planned chaos of xadia) there probably will be a lot of human bloodshed.
Tumblr media
i do think while he values humanity overall and he is benevolent in a sense, he does kind of try to meet people where they’re at (not making viren sacrifice his kids for immortality ig) he’s not at all against doing what’s necessary to change things.
alsoo he kinda has a god & savior complex?
as for how he gets out, the dragang has the pearl now, i think he’s probably gonna try to convert callum to his viewpoint too as well as taking advantage of the fact that callum is desperate to learn any tips from archmages about the secrets of arcanums(ie: akiyu, ibis, lujanne..) and if that doesn’t work, to get him freed, he can just tug on his bond with rayla, put her in danger and that boy will do anything lmao.
or yk there’s plenty of other things to play on so im sure when it comes to getting out its not really a problem now that he’s a card in play and all.
outside of that i mean he probably has a confrontation with an ex and needs some dark mages on his side to take down xadia and all and maybe ezran or someone will change his mind
not much of this is original—i love hearing other people’s theories and bouncing off of them haha. so what do you think about his motives or end game? 👀

What did you think of The Dragon Prince New Season? I love your reviews, could you talk about the Rayllum shipp?
Ahh sorry! Although I do watch TDP and BF and I did caught up with the new season last night, I am not good analyzing shows I watch on Netflix due to the binge-watching format. I only watch the episodes once and never bother give them individually a second watch. Just like I struggle doing film analysis based upon one single watch. Because I am watching the story unfold rather than seeing how the story is told. That’s why I prefer weekly broadcast format more. Because I can rewatch the episode while waiting for the next and let the story and the events of that episode sinks more into my mind.
I can give you my impressions, but it won’t be as detailed or well constructed precisely because I haven’t rewatch things while paying more attention.
Anyway, in general, this season was correct, but it felt rushed in term of pacing. That final big battle felt like it happened way too soon. I mean it is a large-scale battle already. What is going to happen for the next season finale? Though I did like that scene conclusion for Viren and Claudia there because the build up was properly established imo. But I cannot help but think they have combined two seasons into one. So maybe they don’t have as much “books” left to tell the story than they wanted.
Not to mention there is the technical limitation they have to deal with due to their choice to do this show in 3D animation even though this is a very large scale story. Thus why we don’t see the other kingdoms such as Neolandia or Duran. Thus why we see a lot of open fields this season. And there was a lot happening off-screen (good thing there are the drawings during the end credits, though I would greatly appreciate it if Netflix wasn’t so prone to skip them so quickly >_
Oh! And there was a lot of flashbacks this season, wasn’t it? I can’t say I was a big fan of how most were integrated into the story. Like for Rayla’s parents, I just wish Rayla chose herself and could witness the history spell instead of being told by Callum afterward what happened.
Anyway, character wise, I did enjoy Soren’s development even though I don’t particularly care for him. His confrontations with Claudia were strong moments.
Ezran has always been my favorite character since the beginning but that is a bit because I have a weak spot for child characters involved in big adventures. But I do really enjoy his growth. I wish they had time to better develop his relationship with Corvus and Opeli, but I understand it is a 9-episode season. Not a 13, 20 or 26 one.
I’m however disappointed to not have seen Pip. Not even in one scene. What happened to him? I don’t recall if anything particularly bad happened to him back at the end of S2 to explain why he wasn’t present there. If I recall correctly, he broke free of his cage, no? That’s why I am surprised we didn’t see him flew around or just watch over Ezran in the forest for example. (If the theory of Harrow being trapped inside Pip’s body is correct).
Amaya’s reunion with Glen was cute and I did like she got captured by the Sun elves. Again, just wish they had more time to build up more her friendship with Janai and that interpret I forgot the name. But I can believe Janai trusts Amaya enough because she has display warrior’s values despite being enemies. I just wish we could have seen Amaya works through her prejudices against elves more. And yes, I do ship those two. (From enemies to friends to lovers is a trope I enjoy a lot after all)
For Rayla and Callum. I like their friendship and support, but I dunno what bugged me exactly with their relationship development this season. They had cute scenes together like with the adoraburr field or when Callum tries to cheer Rayla and morally support her and sure, I can roll with them being a couple, yet there was something off-putting for me to the point I personally prefer seeing them as just friends.
Oh and Aaravos creeps the hell out of me.
So yeah, those are my impressions of the TDP season 3.

Top 10 current Aaravos theories
(This list is composed of the ten theories concerning our favorite startouch elf that I can recall on the spot. Please feel free to share any more y’all can come up with.)
Aaravos was exiled to the mirror for helping humans out: How or why Aary would pull a stunt like this is still up for debate; but, based on Runaan’s fear and the translations of the books from the library, this theory has quite a bit of supporting evidence and is probably the most popular one out there.
Aaravos is the mastermind: Basically, this theory suggests that Aaravos is omnipotent. He’s been manipulating the entire plot from the getgo, including the death of Thunder, the kidnapping of the dragon prince, Sarai’s death, etc. etc.... You get the point.
Aaravos doesn’t know what’s going on outside the mirror, he’s just really bored: One of my personal favorites, this theory is exactly what it sounds like. Aaravos has been locked away in the mirror for god knows how long, with no way of really knowing what’s going on out in the world. Then, on another long, dreary day, he spots a human watching him from the mirror. And now, after all those centuries, the elf can have a little fun!
Aaravos and Runaan are exes: Not sure if y’all are serious or if this is just a crack ship with gorgeous fan art. Either way, I love it! Don’t stop, please!
Aaravos is non-binary: Not sure if this is a theory per say, but it’s here nonetheless. Pretty self explanatory, would definitely be fantastic representation for the gender-queer community!
Aaravos put himself in the mirror: I’ve only recently found this one floating around tumblr, so this may be a pretty poor explanation of it. To summarize, Aary trapped himself in the mirror to escape persecution from the elves....again, I’m really unsure of this one....
Aaravos was Elarion’s lover: Eh...kind of an overdone trope, ain’t it? Guy falls in love with girl, girls does something that hurts her or everyone, guy gets pissy when someone takes his girl and decides to support the opposition. There are other interpretations, but this seems to be the most popular version so far.
Aaravos was Elarion’s parental figure: Don’t know about y’all, but I’m all for that familial bond between non-related characters! In this theory, Aary finds a lil’ bitty Elarion out in the wilderness and takes her in as his daughter. Seeing as we only have a poem that hints towards Elarion and Aaravos’ involvement with each other, there isn’t much to support this theory. But, I mean, think about papa Aary teaching this lil human girl to braid her hair and connect to the primal sources; totally worth hoping for, right?
Aaravos is Aarpod: The mirror is like an animated film being produced by Aaravos’ mind, providing enchanting imagery for onlookers while he sits and whispers into their ear.
Aaravos created dark magic: This is a pretty popular theory and would totally explain why the elves locked him away....but, the timeline doesn’t add up. Dark magic was used by humans before the split, during that time we see Aaravos standing with the elven leaders overseeing the human exodus which would suggest he was still within their good graces. Now, that doesn’t necessarily mean he didn’t just avoid conviction up until later on....but, would they have locked him up like that so long after the offense? Perhaps. What do y’all think?

Aaravos is Gatsby: The Dragon Prince Theory
Tumblr media
Yeah, this does sound a little weird but just hear me out. For those that stayed until the credits of episode 4, you probably noticed the one of Aaravos holding out a drink with fireworks in the background, which is the picture shown above. And for those of you that read the Great Gatsby book in high school or saw the 2013 movie, this pose probably looks familiar. It matches up almost exactly with one of the most well-known images from that movie, even to the point of fireworks being in the background.
Tumblr media
Now, this could have just been an inside joke by the crew, but what if it’s more than that? Could Aaravos’s story match up somewhat with the plot of the Great Gatsby? My brother is currently reading the book right now and is calling me crazy for thinking there are parallels, but he underestimates me. I think it’s very possible, especially since some things from the book line up with what happens in the Dragon Prince so far.
So just a heads up I read the Great Gatsby like 6 years ago, so my memory of it is clearly fuzzy at best and I am using summaries I found online to draw these connections. Obviously, Aaravos would be Gatsby. From what we know about this elf, we can see that he is very powerful but still quite mysterious. His reputation precedes him since we hear Rayla mention him before he is properly introduced, meaning most if not elves know of him and his powers. Also, he was the narrator from episode 1, so he has always been a part of the show one way or another.
This would probably make Viren the character Nick. He is attracted to the power that Gatsby has, but this ultimately leads him to realizing that this was all just a façade. Clearly Viren was compelled by all that Aaravos had to offer, and he begins to trust Aavaros to the point where Viren is being tricked by him.
Now here is where I am going to start making a lot more guesses/assumptions. When thinking of who Daisy could be, there isn’t too much to go on, but I do have a guess. In this poem released on the Dragon Prince social media, the named Elarion is mentioned. We know this is a name of a female since they use ‘her’ when referring to the character, and we know that she was either an elf with black eyes (maybe she was also a star elf) or she did dark magic. I’m guessing it was the latter.
Tumblr media
If Elarion was a human, that would be very interesting if Aaravos was her lover. The phrase star-crossed lovers come to mind (her midnight star). They never get to be together no matter how much they want to, since a human loving an elf is not allowed in this world at this time. Just as Daisy was born rich while Gatsby had to earn his money, society would not want them to be together.
Also, there is some possibility of some connection between the midnight star and the green light in the Great Gatsby. In the book it partially represents Gatsby’s love for Daisy, which he never obtains. Now this could go the same way in TDP, or it could go the other way around since the poem says Aaravos is her midnight star, meaning she was more in love with him and would do anything to try and obtain his love.
And with that, I can draw some conclusions as to where Aavaros will end up. Meaning, the end of the story for him will not be pretty. Just like Gatsby, he is going to die, while Viren lives. We have no idea about Elarion yet but if she is ever actually seen (if she was a human she probably died a long time ago unless dark magic could extend one’s life) then she could also make it out alive.
We don’t know Viren’s backstory prior to ten years before the show starts, but it is totally possible he was born into high status just like Nick was. I believe it was said by the creators that Viren and Harrow have known each other a long time, so this may be the case.
So, what do you think about this possibility? I’m super excited to learn more about Aaravos, and to see if that end credit picture meant anything. I might make this into a video but idk atm. Follow me for more screaming and TDP theories, and to get notified of when I review any shows!
