breaking news: local woman goes to the movie theater and somehow DOESN'T see the mario movie again for the millionth time? who IS she??????
#this APPEARS to be a non-mario related post but stick with me i'll bring it back around in the tags#instead i saw the japanese stage production of spirited away (subtitled) and it was absolutely lovely :) :) :)#i LOVE spirited away (makes me cry every time) and i LOVE theatre and to see how they translated so many incredible sights#from the movie to the stage was delightful#but let me tell you...the mario brainrot runs deep right now and my treacherous thoughts started taking me places#mario spirited away AU?? is that anything?? tragically separated bros fic where luigi is in the chihiro role and mario is in the haku role?#where mario saved his brother's life many years ago but lost his name and memories in the process and was corrupted by bowser's magic#and the experience was so traumatizing that luigi forgot about the other world they found together and has been told for years#that his brother simply drowned in the sewer saving him#and then as an adult luigi finds his way back into the world and has to serve bowser and fight the mushroom kingdom to survive#but at least he's being helped by a strange half-human creature who somehow knows his name without being told. at least there's that#I GOTTA PONDER ON THIS A LITTLE MORE BUT THERE IS SOMETHING HERE. I'VE GOT SOMETHING GOING ON WITH THIS#something that hasn't come up yet on this blog but is crucial to one's understanding of me: i LOVE weird AU's#i've never met a weird AU that i couldn't make work somehow. just watch me!!!#and also if you would want to see more elaboration on this let me know lol

The Boy and the Heron, lads
*lying facedown on the sofa*
Spoilers, all the spoilers
So can we talk about the cyclical nature of life and death
The way the past and future are linked to one another and just because the past doesn't get to be the future, it doesn't mean that's bad
"In the future I am dead," Himi says, essentially. "I am not afraid. You have seen me as I want to be remembered, and I have left books for you to open and leave open, and even though I'm not going to be alive anymore, I once was, and I loved you."
The fact that Himi's little sister is no more recovered from the grief than Mahito
she's grieving too over her sister, but her sister's husband is now her husband and did she really want this to happen? and she's having this baby
It's a lot to handle because someone she loves just died and right after this she's bringing a new life into a vicious world in the middle of this war
And she has this boy now that looks like her sister
so she goes into the forest looking for that peace that isn't at home
and just she's lying in that room with those circling…. fans? Fans made of bandages(?) just spinning around her it's a cycle of hurt and patching up wounds and getting hurt again and patching up wounds until her stepson is webbed in it and she's webbed in it and both of them are so in pain and trying to patch up their wounds and it doesn't do them any good
The fact that in order to find his mom, our boy Mahito has to go into the Secondary/Underworld and he has to get a fish and he has to survive and draw water and go looking for this woman and descend into the abyss and come out again and he has to shun power
It gives Spirited Away, almost, except Chihiro had to learn to mature in the sense that she had to consider others and respect and learn manners
she has to respect others
meanwhile Mahito has to learn to forgive himself for not saving someone he loves
he has to respect himself and stop hurting himself and be open to love again
So he's just... Living, for the most part, it seems. He's gutting that fish and eating jam and butter on bread and also soup and he has to bicker with Heron and drink tea and steer a boat and observe the complexities of life and death
He's living and healing
But really, there's no balance to the Secondary/Underworld the greatuncle made because he wanted every creature to thrive within it
And if all you have is life on top of life, then creatures are going to start killing each other
The pelicans are starving because the fish can't be eaten, they turn on the waro-waro, the humans rush to protect the waro-waro, both sides are burned
happiness for one and all is competitive, it's cutthroat
The fact that coming home looking scraped isn't enough, Mahito has to slam a rock into his head
He says it's to prove he fell down, but really that's the biggest mark of human violence
And he does it to himself maybe because he's just so angry with himself for being alive and well, while his mother isn't, and he needs to level that playing field to feel better
Self-flagellation
The overboldness of the dad, how he packs all his human gear and tries to elbbow his way into the Fae and it does him no good
how he tries to solve his kid's problems by again elbowing his way in and that also does nothing
The fact that our boy Mahito realizes something is wrong with the old ladies on sight
something about them is very inhuman
when he first sees them the look on his face he knows something is up because he's meant to go into Faerie and he doesn't have the preconceptions of the adults and he has to see the signs
I ugh
Ugh it's so beautiful, all of it

doing a big ghibli rewatch right now and am just…god. so struck and humbled and shaken touched by the way acts of kindness return to the actor throughout the plots of these films?
haku saving chihiro from drowning as a child and she saves him in the spirit world. princess nausicca’s protection of the baby ohm (both as a little girl and as an adult) so the adults heal her after they trample her in rage. how the old lady inspires kiki in the midst of her depression after kiki took the time to make her a little less lonely. sosuke gave ponyo a name and a bucket and ham: ponyo loves sosuke. sophie showing compassion to the witch who cursed her, thus saving howl’s heart. totoro carrying the umbrella satsuki gifted him the whole film, even before he helps search for mei when she’s lost.
just…fuck me, man. no act of compassion is wasted. ever.

This is as close as we will ever get to a Spirited Away sequel…
Chihiro is all grown up in special one-off ad that aired during Ghibli TV broadcast in Japan.
January 5 was a big day for Studio Ghibli fans. Not only was it the 83rd birthday of co-founder and director Hayao Miyazaki, it was the first Kinyo Roadshow (Friday Roadshow) of the year, and the movie to be broadcast in this prime-time TV slot was Spirited Away.
Like many Kinyo Roadshow Ghibli specials, this turned out to be a major TV event, with the station tweeting out tidbits of behind-the-scenes information about the movie throughout the broadcast, creating a sense of community amongst viewers. One thing fans didn’t expect, though, was a commercial that appeared partway through the film, which starred none other than Spirited Away characters Yubaba and Chihiro.
To be exact, it was voice actors Mari Natsuki and Rumi Hiiragi who could be heard in the ad, reprising their roles as Yubaba and Chihiro respectively, 22 years after the film debuted in 2001. The two were lending their voices to Subaru, with Chihiro explaining the car’s special “Eyesight” feature to Yubaba.
While viewers might’ve paid little attention to an ad like this in any other situation, the distinctive voices of these characters, which flowed seamlessly from the broadcast into the commercial, grabbed everyone’s attention. Fans were so excited by the surprise ad that “Chihiro’s voice” began trending on Twitter as soon as it appeared, with people leaving comments like:
“This made me so happy!”
“Thank you, Subaru!”
“Rumi Hiiragi sounds all grown-up now!”
“It’s a conversation between Chihiro as an adult and Yubaba!”
“It’s like Chihiro grew up and became a Subaru staff member!!”
“Natsuki still does Yubaba the same but Hiiragi’s Chihiro sounds so different!”
It’s true that Hiiragi sounds a lot more mature now as a 36-year-old compared to when she originally voiced Chihiro at the age of 14. And the extra years do add a special something to the exchange between characters, allowing us to believe that after all these years, Yubaba and Chihiro really do stay in touch.
As the commercial was a special collaboration between Subaru and Kinyo Roadshow, it was a one-off that only aired once on television. Here’s hoping there’ll be more surprise appearances from Ghibli characters in future commercials during the Kinyo Roadshow timeslot!
The conversation between Chihiro and Yubaba went as follows:
Chihiro: “Phew — I was able to get here without bumping into anything”
Yubaba: “Whoa, so you made it this far unscathed? Did somebody lend you a hand?”
Chihiro: “No, no-one.”
Yubaba: “What’s the point of hiding something like that? Be honest!”
Chihiro: “Ah, it’s Eyesight!”
Yubaba: “What do you mean — what’s up with these three eyes?”
Chihiro: “Don’t you know what they are?”
Yubaba: “Why would I know what they are?”
Chihiro: “This is ‘Eyesight’.”
Yubaba: “Huh, so it’s called ‘Eyesight’. How come it’s there?”
Chihiro: “Because these three cameras give you a wide field of vision.” [Eyesight activates with a beep]
Yubaba: “Aaaaaagh!”
Chihiro: “In dangerous situations Eyesight helps to avoid collisions. The rear-end collision rate of Eyesight-equipped cars has fallen this much.” [Graph appears on screen showing the new version of Eyesight is even more effective than previous versions]
Yubaba: “So Eyesight protects lives…”
Chihiro: “Eyesight is installed in a variety of Subaru vehicles.”
Yubaba: “So if there’s more Eyesight, there’ll be a society with less accidents.”
Chihiro: “And it looks like one person will receive one of these Eyesight-equipped cars as a present.”
Yubaba: “That’s thoughtful. Don’t hesitate to take them up on it.”
Chihiro: “Search for Eyesight and apply!”

Chihiro's Age and Being the Perfect 18 Year Old Protagonist
Today I will be breaking down Kagurabachi's Chihiro’s age and why he’s a great 18 yr old protagonist and acts his age. Please forgive if my current DC brain rot bleeds into this.
I think Chihiro’s core can attributed to growing up being loved and respected by his parents. One of the first conversations is Kunishige telling Chihiro that if he wants to be a blacksmith like him and carry the burden of the role’s consequences, “…If that’s how you feel, all that’s left, is for me to believe in you.”
I think when you grow up with a loving parent like that, that loving voice is always in your head. He reminds me of that joke that the reason Superman is so good is because both of his parents loved him unconditionally. But who do we get when you have loving parents who get killed in a traumatic way in front of you? Batman, hi! Hi, Batman! Hi! AKA “that nut from Gotham city” and Chihiro already has such a reputation. Not as a psycho, but he’s deemed dangerous and strong. He’s someone to keep an eye out for now. He’s been underestimated before this arc because of his age.
I personally think that had Kunishige never been murdered, Chihiro wouldn’t had ever chosen to wield a blade unless it came to a time of war. But he adapted to the idea easily because he’s been preparing himself his whole life to be responsible for deaths as a blacksmith. What’s the difference anyways when you’re the wielder? Probably a lot, but you’re a teenager and want one thing, and it’s the right thing in your mind so let’s just start moving.
He has assigned himself the responsibility to get the katanas back and get revenge, and he’s very set on it in a one track, 18 yr old way. When Char got taken, his mind was on getting her back. When Sojo was doing his shit, his mind was on taking him down. Then he immediately moves back into getting back the katanas, not really taking time to process literally losing a limb after already not fully healing from a hospital visit. He’s reckless with his physical health- typical for his age.
Older characters around him also treat him his age. Shiba doesn’t really leave him out of his sight if we’re real about it. He lets him fight on his own and trusts that Chihiro has a handle on things because he knows him and probably trained him. He would’ve gone in during the first fight with Sojo had Azami not stopped him. He is willing to hop in when things get bad, and he will always be there to catch him, but overall, he knows he’s old enough to handle physical strain. Still, there’s that famous moment in the train at the beginning where Shiba does warn Chihiro all the hatred he’s been carrying is “…gonna break you.”
Chihiro asks in return, “So you wanna stop me?” And neither of them says anything and continue to go about their mission. Shiba respects Chihiro and his choices, understands he’s an adult and this is what he wants, but he looks out for him because at the end of the day, he’s still eighteen. And his best friend’s baby.
We also have Azami who summoned the Kamunabi because although he he’s been told Chihiro can fight, he also knew that he had never fought another enchanted blade wielder before and knew the city damage could get crazy. In a way, I think it was also a way to keep an eye on him because he doesn’t want him to get hurt, either. Azami has been proven to be sentimental with his phone lockscreen. He kept Chihiro’s existence a secret because until KB’s starting point, he was a child. He’s barely an adult, and Azami who hadn’t seen him in a while, is still like I guess he can handle it, if Shiba says and then absolutely not.
My final point is that Chihiro treats children well. He talks to children in a way kids like to be talked to- like real people. Kids say crazy things, but he still took time to feed and talk to Char and take her seriously even before they were attacked. The same thing occurs with Mr. Inazuma. He gets down to their level, listens to them in the way his father listened to him, and he goes along with what they want while making sure they’re not going to die.
Chihiro was shown to have been a responsible child and he had to grow up quick to be able to accomplish his goals. In a way, an indirect goal of his is to protect the innocent- children. He knows what it’s like to be a defenseless child and to have nobody run to your aid, so he acts the most rational when other people’s lives are on the line. And when it all falls on his life, he lets himself get a little bit reckless because that’s just what allegedly blood thirsty 18 yr old boys do. I’ll come back to the allegedly later.

I can’t be the only one who never liked the “Ishimondo are Chihiro’s parents” thing right?
Idk, it just always felt weird to me. Like, I like Ishimondo and I do enjoy the Taka+Mondo+Chihiro dynamic, but when people put them in the stereotypical family dynamic (ie; Taka’s the mom, Mondo’s the dad, and Chihiro is the child) it just loses it’s uniqueness y’know?
And it kinda infantilizes Chihiro which I’m also not a fan of.
From my perspective, I’ve seen people treat Chihiro like they’re a toddler who doesn’t know what sex is or needs their ears blocked from no-no words and stuff.
Hello!? She’s an adult with a teenager’s mind basically. Not a toddler.

DANGANRONPA SHIPPING BRACKET
Is your DR ship the best? Make it fight against other ships!
Any DR media is accepted. Game, manga, anime, fanmedia, etc.
Any ship no matter how popular. Or unpopular. Give me crack ships. Go crazy.
I will stop once we have 132 ships
I will not accept ships between family members for personal reasons. Same for ships between children and adults. Thank you for understanding.
Chihiro's pronouns will be whatever the submission propaganda uses. Please be respectful of others.

Remember that funny video where the dog is staring at the cupcakes but the owner is telling them “away, away”, I imagine that being both Grim and any version of Yuu with Trey in the kitchen and Cater with recording the whole thing
Video in question.
Omg, I remember that episode of “It’s Me or the Dog!” 😂 Victoria is a dog trainer in the show, and she was helping that family stop the family dog who was obsessed with human food and training him to resist the temptation of unattended food on the counter. 🤣
Now, aside from Kaiju!Trey (as they’re not exactly in a good environment or have the same process to make certain ingredients to attempt baking), I can definitely see Monster!Trey and Deity!Trey being used to the swarm of hungry dorm members drooling at the chance to get a bite of baked deliciousness. The moment Grim and Yuu (any of them) come into the picture though, he thinks it’s quite adorable how the two are almost always there, eagerly awaiting the “Go ahead” for them to dig into the tray.
Oh, there’s a specific pastry that Yuu really misses from home and hasn’t been able to find in Twisted Wonderland? Just describe it to him and he’ll find the closest recipe possible and make sure it tastes the same. Nothing brings about feelings of warmth and comfort than a little taste of home, right? (The first time he does this for Yuu, I can see them crying like Chihiro from Spirited Away did when she was eating the rice ball with Haku nearby ;;v;; )
Meanwhile, Cater’s having a blast recording the reactions and posting to Magicam! Yuu and Grim sitting at the counter eagerly waiting for the treats to come out, resisting the urge to swipe the closest one, then happily humming while eating? Captured on camera~! Mini!Yuu and Grim sitting side-by-side watching the goodies bake in the Monster!AU? Or a video of the tiny toddler asking, “When are the yummies going to be ready?” while staring up at big brother Trey? Both got so many likes and reblogs that it momentarily caused Magicam to crash! 😂
Or how about teen/adult!Yuu (or even mini!Yuu…I just love wholesome cuteness regardless of the AU, darnit!!!) and Grim watching the stone-brick ovens churn out treat after treat as the God of Summer whips up more dough and batter faster than the eye can blink in the Deity!AU, Cater’s always there to capture the moment. He swears it’s like watching two adorable puppies waiting impatiently for their food, while Trey enjoys having the chance to spoil someone other than the members of his pantheon with baked goods! (And of course, he and Monster!AU Trey are more notorious than canon Trey when it comes to teeth hygiene for various reason. Can’t let those chompers get worn down by too much sugar and lack of care!)
Whichever AU they’re in (well, except the Kaiju!AU like I said, since I’m not even sure how they’d go about baking even if our intrepid little human figured out how to do it), Trey is always going to be the one who can whip up anything Yuu can imagine to help them feel at home. It’s not much, but if he can somehow bring a little taste of home to a lonely human/mortal, then that’s all that really matters to him in the end.

I've always found it very interesting that, even though Chihiro largely begins the film as very sheltered and inexperienced, the fact stands that if her parents had listened to her they wouldn't have been turned into pigs.
I always interpreted her initial hesitancy to enter the tunnel, and then her refusal to eat the food, as very instinctual, and I think it's often overlooked that she's right. The abandoned station was creepy! The spirits were mad that her parents ate the food! Children often occupy this weird space where they're still learning about social rules and consequences, and in this case Chihiro's observance of those rules (don't enter weird abandoned buildings, don't just eat random food you find lying around) is objectively correct. Obviously if her parents had followed those rules the movie wouldn't have happened, but I've always found those moments a very interesting portrayal of how children vs adults navigate the world, and how the rules we (adults) often enforce on children we ourselves ignore whenever we find them inconvenient.

First time doing an ask so this one might be lame. I shall ask anyway! What is like, the dumbest, most nonsensical, downright goofiest headcanon you have for some of your faves that just make sense to you despite the comical nature of them? If any of course! Or just, what is any funky or strange headcanon that you have for some of your favorite characters in Danganronpa? Unless someone's already asked this before! That's okay too! Totally understandable!
It's fine!!! I love any ask, gives me more to ramble about :D
And I do have a few funny headcanons. Like Byakuya being Dutch. I actually made a post about that a while back, but what I said in there was basically that Byakuya was blonde, tall and an asshole, just like how quite some Dutch teenagers/Young adults are!
As for some other headcanons: Mondo is scared of spiders. Very scared.
Meanwhile Chihiro loves spiders, he just finds them awesome.
Makoto also had a hamster when he was a kid. Unfortunately, the little thing was in a small cage (Makoto didn't know any better) but it did live a good and healthy life. No weird death!!!!
Toko also wrote fanfiction before publishing her novel. One time she got a comment basically complimenting her writing and saying that they would so read this if this was an actual novel, which led to her publishing it (after changing some little things ofc)
And Leon only likes cherry cola. He hates the taste of normal cola, but loves cherry cola (this one actually came from The Ultimate Mystery Incorporated)
That's all I can think of rn. But if you want to ask me about anything else, you can always leave an ask! Always open to ramble about my silly AU's or just headcanons :D
