Tell me about a time you’ve pushed out of your comfort zone. My scary walk outside the unknown came when I decided to write something outside of YA. I’d just finished a long patch of revisions on my second book, Across a Broken Shore and I was itching to do something new. I had an idea for a contemporary Adult romance and decided it would be the perfect palate cleanser to working on two historical books in a row. Not only was the book outside my category, but I also went from first person past to third person. I wrote the first draft in about eight weeks, and then I let it sit for six months because I wasn’t sure it was good-and I also wasn’t brave enough to show it to anyone. 😬 When I finally went back to it, I decided the story was too sterile. I agonized over what to change and realized that it was a story that needed to be told from two points of view. I then took on the task of ripping the story apart and telling it from both of the love interest’s point of view. It was very difficult yet satisfying to dig down deep into each character’s backstory and learn about who they were and the trauma that’d kept them apart for so many years. I’ve shared a small snippet here.❤️ Will this book go anywhere? I’m not sure. Do you have that one manuscript that keeps calling you back? The one you know needs a ton of work, but is like a siren dragging you back to its pages over and over? . I do. It’s a book I’ve been working on for years and very off-brand for me. I love the characters and the comfort that slides over me when I tumble back into that world. . I’m not sure if the book will ever see the light of day, but I go back to it to be reminded that love can still be pure.
