ADVISE & CONSENT (1962) dir. Otto Preminger

This political drama depicts the debate sparked when controversial candidate Robert Leffingwell (Henry Fonda) is nominated as U.S. Secretary of State. As concerns are aired during the Senate investigation of Leffingwell's qualifications, Senator Brig Anderson (Don Murray), the head of the committee, soon finds himself being blackmailed over an affair that he had with a fellow soldier Ray Shaff (John Granger) while they were both serving in the army during World War II. A worried Anderson visits Ray in New York and meets him in a gay bar.

The movie pushed censorship boundaries with its depiction of a married senator who is being blackmailed over a wartime homosexual affair, and was the first mainstream American film after World War II to show a gay bar.

my little brother got rejected at the blood donation center earlier this week, because he's a neurodivergent man in a specialized infrastructure and had a nurse help him understand terms like HIV etc. they immediately assumed he wasn't in any capacity to give consent for himself and it's actually pissing me off so bad

he can hold a conversation just fine. he can read more or less properly, writing is still a bit of an issue but he gets by with enough efforts. he has such a kind heart that the moment he turned 18 he was set on donating his blood and took every step with his caretakers to do so. he's the first to volunteer when someone needs an extra hand. he's funny, stubborn, and everything that makes someone unique and human.

they didn't give a shit about that tho, nor did they even try to figure anything out, because he's neurodivergent and needs someone to help him in a stressful situation with medical talks with which he's not familiar. so the doctor refused the minute he entered his office with his nurse. this is going to be his life from now on, apparently

but yeah, i guess neurodivergent people have it easy etc etc

#the nurse called and advised us to go someplace else and have him accompanied by our mother #but it's so fucking frustrating. he's 18 and a half. he's an adult. he should be able to at least explain his situation #before getting chalked up as unable to consent. they just put everyone in the same basket bc they don't want 'legal issues' #if the doctor had spent just 5min talking to him he'd have understood

18. A movie you never wanna hear about again

Any of whatever they're calling the latest Star Wars trilogy. Had no interest at the time, have no interest now, don't believe I'll have any interest at any time in future.

19. A movie you look forward to watching (could be an upcoming release or not)

The answer to this is rarely ever an upcoming release (I sadly pay much less attention than I used to to the cinematic goings-on), and it changes constantly between my collection that I've neglected for far too long. Right now? Honestly, I think it's been way too much time since I last watched 'Casablanca'.

20. A movie you think looks beautiful

I can't think of a single shot from 'To Catch A Thief' that isn't positively gorgeous.

21. A director you think is underrated

I don't know if Otto Preminger is underrated, precisely... but it doesn't seem like he's a name that pops up when people kick around the Top 5 of the Golden Age - and I'd say he should at least be in the conversation?

Do you have aftercare fic recs because I am INTERESTED

hewo. honestly most of these are just... repeats of my consent bookshelf (which I need to update bc there's a couple fics recently I've wanted to add) so,, sorry abt that lol.

okay, so, if you're looking for a fic that is solely aftercare, may I offer you aftermath by an anonymous user (my villain origin story). This is a lashton fic with no smut! Just aftercare!! I think it's absolutely beautiful <3

And this fic isn't technically aftercare but it is some gorgeous Ashton centered hurt/comfort so, legally, I have to mention it: Ildsjel by Anna ( @ashtcnirwin ). It gives the same vibe as an aftercare fic to me. And, also by Anna, obviously I have to mention Tie That Binds which I'm gonna assume you've already read but if you haven't, is a must read if you enjoy aftercare!! I think specifically of my beloved chapter six <3

And, also, I don't know if this is really an aftercare fic but In The Dark (Like Meteorites) (mashlum) comes to mind as just a fantastic D/s fic that I have reread many times and focuses on aftercare.

And also we're both showing hearts !! which is a lashton fic I really love. Once again, fantastic D/s dynamic.

If I can recommend one of my own fics, I'd say that my spanking fic Constant (lashton) has some nice aftercare !! There's definitely heavy emphasis on it.

I'm sure there's lots of other fics that have wonderful aftercare that I can't think of atm (and probably haven't read!!) but I hope that gets you started!

And also if you're just looking for some nice, soft sex (read: explicit hurt/comfort) might I interest you in two of my favorites: rhythm (lashton) by Amanda ( @lifewasradical ) and let me take care of you (cashton) which are both Ashton-centric and make my brain buzz in the most delightful happy way.

Thinking about for real starting a writing blog to stretch my writing ability and sort of use as a public journal.  I’ve had this Tumblr for sooo many years, and I could just use it, but it doesn’t necessarily feel designed for that. Any platform I’ve been on for a long time doesn’t really feel like the right place for it. Feels like maybe suddenly making my friends see long personal posts would be strange. So maybe I’ll make another Tumblr or use Wordpress? Is Wordpress supposed to be a professional feeling blog platform? Is there something better?  Semi-professional/semi-marketable I suppose is a plus.
