Alan-A-Dale is based off the minstrel of the same name from various Robin Hood legends and is depicted as a rooster. rip my encounters

so I run a D&D campaign for my five friends. and for a while, they've been absolutely wrecking my encounters.

case in point:

one of my players went on a two week hiatus. they decided they wanted to edit their character, Four, to spice things up for themselves.

so the in-campaign reason for Four's absence was that he fell sick. a high fever with unknown causes. and so the party go to the next town, Alanadale to find help. there's a temple of Lathander there that tries to heal him (of course it's not going to work until my player comes back but y'know). in exchange they've gotta do two things: clear the north road and collect some herbs.

the party went to clear the north road first - a pop-up graveyard, summoned by an antagonist in the background. it was going well until the Serpentir (I used Paper & Dice's) showed up. and its behaviour says "go for the one who's alone". so I target the paladin, Joel. Now, Joel here is a paladin that uses a warhammer. and what's the Serpentir vulnerable to? bludgeoning. Joel two-shot this Serpentir, one for each head.

the herb collecting went a bit differently. I had hidden thorn areas that revealed themselves once they were stepped on. the party rogue, Fenlar, just... dashed through it all. ignoring my maze of thorns. but oh wait, there's more. the boss of the area, a giant Maneater, was once again, two-shot by Joel. a crit hit, with heroic crits, of his searing and divine smites. and the party wizard had the gall to take its corpse
