ive been a follower of yours for a while and it looks like you make a lot of things on ms paint! if thats true, how do you find the patience to do all of that layering and editing and make a finished piece in the end? its gotta be some of the most impressive art ive seen on that program
Yes I do draw on ms paint, if not then it's not tagged on the drawing. Sometimes if i ever try to practice krita program ill often do the sketch on paint first cause im more comfortable there
It's not hard!! When you're used to draw on 1 layer you just learn to become fast, it's just natural now. people love to talk about how you have to be insane to work on there (to a certain degree yes) but if you just try and do it again and again you just learn your way through that's it.
I feel like I should record myself doing it one day to prove its not dark magic, I actually now find it annoying to use multiple layers on other programs. One layer is just simple, you mess up then fix it by painting over until it's right, I feel like the 1 layer thing helped me improve in some aspects compared to when I used to draw on FA before. Also canvas too small? Thats fine you can make it bigger so easily it's so good
I also really like the crayon texture there it's what I use for everything, I think it's visible in this sketches from yesterday (2 are altuyur gijinkas of younger versions of ocs, morang ,tamtam, then just young maanul morang doodle)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I also really prefer the simple UI, to be honest other art programs are a little overwhelming with all their buttons, especially since I'll just use 2 of them. I like just like having a few tools and colors

hi! since you seem pretty pro-ai, i have a question. how do you reconcile that stance with the growing threat ai has on creative jobs? especially right now with the wga strike, when one of their main issues is ai. not trying to trap you or start a fight, just genuinely curious as someone with a foot in both fanfic and professional writing who doesn’t fully know how to feel.
I wouldn't say I'm pro ai in the sense that I think ai is uncritically great.
I think ai is morally neutral, and that it is only getting misused under capitalism.
I am absolutely down for ai being improved upon to progress society, and think ai could actually be a helpful tool for a lot of jobs humans don't want to do!
(Look me in the eye and tell me the current youtube auto generated captions are acceptable. Look my Hard of Hearing ass in the eye.)
That being said, the current people that are funding and working on the ai are scumbags that are clearly in it for a cheap buck and not to progress humanity forwards!
(maybe I'm an optimist, but I want to program something great one day. Something that other programmers build upon, and eventually people are still benefitting from my existence long after I'm gone!)
That being said, it isn't as easy as "magically hope the people behind chatGDP grow a spine or replace them with better people" I feel the the government should regulate ai more, so it isn't down to the morality of the current big name cooperations!
This will likely not happen, since governments always wait to pass laws on technology until it is far too late. I'd say:
If an Ai was used, it has to be disclosed and the programmers who wrote the ai credited.
In order to train a commercial ai on something, you have to either get consent from the people that made it (same as reference photos) or pay them. It should be like stock photos.
The companies shouldn't be able to tell users what they can and can't use the ai for. This is a slippery slope, and I could very easily see it leading to the "sorry, we refuse to write anything thats anti-big company! Sorry (suck my dick)
I think it should be under the same copyright law as fanfiction. You can use an ai to make whatever the fuck you want, but if you sell it the people that came up with the idea can come after you. As for ai completely stealing human jobs, it doesn't seem very likely. Ai automating people out of a job has always been a fear, and writing/art is the least likely field for this to happen in. The ai can't make anything original. If, lets say, the dataset goes up to 2020, then the ai won't be able to comment on modern events in the slightest. An ai can make SW fic, but once a new movie drops, its dataset will no longer be accurate. Therefore, the ai depends on humans to keep datasets up to date. Also, current ai is not good enough to recreate a modern TV show. Have you tried Ai? Do you think you can get it to keep a plot going for more than 1-2 prompts? Let alone an entire 22 minute episode? It'll be all tangential and clunky. even if some person actually wanted to write a show in this way, they'd need human editors to make it make sense. And at that point, if you're already paying humans, there's no point in relying on the ai. Another flaw in this "using ai to write shows approach" is that the ai isn't static? Like, if a new update roles out, the writing of the show can be completely off and that may not be fixable. I don't think anyone in Hollywood would want to put their faith in the competency of a bunch of random programmers.
We should have debated the morality of ai before we made it, if thats what tumblr wants. Its too late now. Can't put the genie back in the bottle.
There's no way that random internet users will have the same impact on the way ai plays out, since its up to the government and big cooperations.
I advise anyone who feels strongly about the subject to lobby to their government (or maybe the ai creators, but the government is your best bet.) instead of trying to peer pressure internet users into a boycott that will not affect shit in any way.

dude your art is so good, do you have any advice for how to improve as an artist who hasn't been very consistent ? I'd love to know what resources you use for studies, how you lay out sketch pages, what you choose to study, any websites you use for art, etc? No pressure ofc! You don't even have to post this, just know you're one of my biggest art inspo blogs 😊
gahhh aehehahe i really appreciate this ^_^ really kind words :D, anyway my one advice is get incredibnly obssesed with a ccharacter and draw them over and over for 5 years. jk.. i hsve other advice 2  i think, personally what helped me grow was really having other artists evaluate my art and really taking constructive criticism to heart and working on whatever issues i have consistently in my art whether its anatomy or coloring or rendering. i think it is great 2 have other artist friends who can help you and eachother imrpove! i think also pushing yourself to draw things your uncomfortable with like strange angles and different features and really just working on understanding the human form helped me draw more consistently, for me im now at the stage where i am experimenting with my style but before that i was focused on really getting the basics, i think now that i understand like, figure drawing and such i have been able to focus on getting a consistent art style if thats what you mean? but again ive done alot of figure drawings and loose poses. i remember watching this video a couple years ago that helped me get on the track 2 studying figures specifically !! i do not know if it will be of service to you but here it is https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xGhYfLQWbp0 , also ive done some studies of figure drawings from other really good artists i was looking at this one book ill try to see if i can remember later. but yea i study from life and other artists, when it comes to painting i find alot of inspiration from stuff i find on pinterest and also other artists on tumblr lol gahh i have been writing alot my bad, but yea i usually google references for poses i dont really use any like, artist reference websites even though i should lol. but yea overall i have done like soo many gesture drawings, and when i frst got into tf2 i studied the comics artstyle alot which i think helped alot with my style and understanding all the muscles in the face you know, also for sketch pages i literally just start a drawing of something and draw around the empty space around it lol, i do not really plan them ever, in like physical sketchbooks i try to fill in the space between all my other sketches so all my drawings kind of meld into eachother cause i think it looks neat, anyway sorry 4 the essay and i hope any of this helps!! '^_^ if u have any more questions feel free 2 ask

hi so i kinda happened to fall in love with your art.....and i wanted to ask a few things!!! (if its ok!)
uhmm first of all how long did it take you to get that art style and perfection it etc etc?
also do you have any tips for anatomy? not big complex full body anatomy, just like...idrk honestly, some tips related to anatomy or hands or just the body that helped/help you?
and uh yeah if you just have any general tips on whatever to improve my art/art style i'll take litterally anything 😭
again, i love your art, i love what you make! keep doing what you do, you're awesome!!!! sending love and support <3
ah!! tysm <333!! thats so cool to hear!!!!!!!!!/gen
ive been drawing forever honestly. i've always been really into it. im fifteen so thatd be like 12 years. and obviously i wasnt always studying it super seriously or anything. idk. my art isnt perfect by any means. i just dont really post the shitty pieces lmao. i struggle with sm stuff and will be continuing to study probably till the day i cant hold a pencil anymore lol. (i draw too much, my hand hurts ;w;) its a never ending process and honestly thats why i love it sm.
as for anatomy i think the main thing to keep in mind is that anatomy and just drawing people in general is really hard. i heard this in this old video about how pixar used to do 3d animation is that the reason they didnt do animations of humans for so long is because we ourselves have very specefic ideas of what a human looks like. i think this also applies to art. which is a really long way of saying, trust the process.
i use photos personally! you can find a lot on pinterest but there are a couple things id keep in mind when it comes to photos people edit their bodies sometimes so their proportions so be careful, it will defeat the purpose of the study if the bodies inaccurate.
idk here are some that might be good for starting off. dancers and people like that are super helpful. remember to not to focus too much on the lines but more copying down the shapes,
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
for hands i would just look at your own hands and try to capture them quickly. i say quickly mainly bc i shake a lot lmao, maybe youre different. or you could just be smart and take a picture of your hand but im very lazy and dont like getting up to grab my phone.
for art style id just save stuff that inspire you. could be animations, comics, album covers, cool photos, just stuff that gives you like vibes. literally ANYTHING.
like, omg this is making me think of a cool idea rn!! save it! even if you cant execute it now you can always execute it in the future when your skills are more developed :)
style studies are also helpful! try copying art you like, seeing different peoples techniques however some things to keep in mind with this are
you might accidently copy down an artists mistakes or bad habits without realizing it so try to have some variety in your artists
dont post the art. some people are okay with tracing but the vast majority of artists dont like it and it makes them uncomfortable. so id just like keep it in your sketchbook or whatever :) better safe than sorry.
anyway ah this is so longgggg! sry im so bad at being concise lol. theres probably a lot of youtube videos that could help you with this stuff if you want more explanation. the channel ive been watching a lot in since this summer is sketches of shay. she makes a variety of stuff but her art studies and resources are also very helpful :)

Bayverse Ninja turtles: workout edition 2.
The reaction the boys would have when you show them how much you improved on your workouts and how they would help you improve!
I made this a while ago, and just, never got to posting it. I was excited when I improved in the gym like, a month ago. Hope you guys like it!
Raph:
Boy in red will be in the gym when you do it
Never let's you workout by yourself. You think he'd miss watching that free show?
Gym buddies don't come easy. So when you consistently go into the gym with him regularly he is STOKED
He is TOTALLY paying attention to how much you're lifting and DEFINITELY seeing how much your body has changed with you, when you go to look in the mirror.
When he sees the exercise you been working on for months become a lot easier and you're able to take it to the next level?
Oh he is so excited for you! He's been watching your progress! That's his S/O!
Look how strong and agile you've gotten! Dat shit hot!
Oh you guys would totally celebrate, like, this is awesome! The man would be so prideful he'd annoy his brothers for a good few days about it at least!
Saying you could kick their asses and shit, big, proud, red banded turtle is big, proud, red banded turtle.
Leo:
Whether you're learning a martial art and struggling with a move
Or doing calensthetics with the leader in blue?
He will remember every little detail
The second he notices that your moves have improved and you can advance
Or you're getting better stamina and strength?
His radar will pick it up SO fast.
He'll reward you: with more exercises and more challenging exercises -_-'
BUT the excitement on his face that you get to advance will be ADORABLE and you can't even be mad
Will go to Splinter for more ideas on how to continue to advance you
He'll formulate an entirely new routine that will be a challenge for you again. And watch you thrive!
Thats Leo boy for you.
Donnie:
Boy he will be SO excited for you
He will keep track of EVERYTHING
How much weight. Reps, everything.
He'll hook you up to monitors during your cardio
Bod pod you to see how much fat you've lost and muscle gained (or just fat lost if that's your goal)
He'll take before and after pictures of you (very happily. And it will just happen to be on his phone, because he's obsessed with you)
If you're trying to lose weight He'll help you out on that.
He'll monitor your fit bit if you have one and help you calorie count so you'll be spot on
You'll both have a good old time with this whole thing, and he will be there with you the entire way
And holy cow when he sees you reach your goal and how much you improved? He'll help you set the next ones and celebrate all your victories small, big.
Doesnt matter hes obsessed with his sexy s/o!!
Mikey:
Dude will also be your loyal gym buddy.
He makes working out amazing and fun
And surprisingly keeps you pretty focused
When he's not clowning around too much and making the whole experience a blast!
Dude will watch you do a workout. Be like: "psh, I can do that!" And then purposefully face plant just to hear your amazing laughter
He'll watch your workout videos with you
Stretch with you, and help you stretch... he'll be all over that. And you. Mikey you need to focus! 😁
He will be SO involved
And when you improve?!
He will bake up a storm
If you're gluten free? Sweet potato brownies!
Vegan ice cream made with coconut milk! Yum!
Watch movies, take a load off baby cakes, you deserve it! Enjoy your down day!
And then fuck like rabits because you can take it easy but not THAT easy, holy cow his s/o is amazing! He is in awe of you.

I'm drawing Kakashi for the first time (as much as I love them, I rarely ever draw naruto characters so this is a little fun and new for me) and I'm struggling a little bc I'm trying to draw him relaxed, reclining with pakkun (in the way I recline with my cat) and I'm realizing there's something so personal abt drawing him in such a vulnerable pose ig. Like? I'm very tired too rn so maybe I'm being extra emotional and rambly but there are so few scenes of kakashi in canon where he's not wearing the jounin vest, where he's alone and relaxed and out of uniform. And I didn't realize it until I was trying to think back to other similar scenes and there really weren't any. and I'm kind of mesmerized by how you draw him because you capture that so so well, your art is gorgeous but it's also so real and expressive in a way that shows a lot of practice and a lot of love. Idk i think I've said this before and I'm sorry if it's annoying that I'm saying it again (I'll just shut up after this lol) but I went to an art school and I had massive burnout and only really started drawing again in the past 6 months and you were one of my inspirations 2 start drawing again and I'm still not as good as I'd like to be but I draw so much more now and having an actual passion for art has led to a huge improvement, so thank you and thank u for bearing with me and my sleep-deprived rambles. I think my original point got sidetracked. I forgot why i started writing this ask.
dkgjhsdgkjdshg no i think you're 100% right abt the kakashi relaxed thing, even when we see him "relaxed" he doesn't ever really Look relaxed. like
Tumblr media
here he is chilling out in the hot springs. this man does not look relaxed but he DOES look exhausted and maybe a little like he's gotten lost. somebody help this confused man find the exit.
anyway art + motivation talk beneath the cut
djhsdkjghsdkjhg thank u for all the compliments abt my art, i do work really hard in order to draw expressive characters, and spend a lot of time paying attention to how the small details in posture and expression change how the character comes across, and im glad it pays off!
also yeah no, similarly, once i left art school (when the pandemic hit) i did have a good 6 months where i did not pick up the pencil even once, and like, usually i feel rlly bad or guilty when i'm not drawing, but my burnout was real bad and i was straight up angry abt everything dgkjhsdgkjh so i just...didn't draw for like 6 months. i didn't even feel bad about it bc i was too busy being angry
and i had a bad relationship with art at the time and eventually realized i kind of had to like? make a different relationship with art—like, try to stop seeing art as something which gave me fundamental worth as a human being, or part of who i am? you know? that's a LOT of pressure to put on just...something that i do. if i took that kind of approach to literally any other task in my life, i'd never do it. imagine thinking that the way and style with which you descend the stairs gives you your worth as a person and if you don't do it exactly right then it means you're worthless as a person? buddy i'd just find a way to go down and out through the window LMAO
i think this is the thing which gives a lot of people burnout, it's exhausting to be constantly working on something and ALSO believe that if you fuck it up even a little, it's because you are the fuckup, and a fundamental failure of a person. god thats so much pressure.
anyway so i decided to make a naruto art blog because i don't even like naruto That Much but my best friend had been trying to get me into it for years (ty kate ilu kate), and so any art that i made would be purely for fun, wouldn't have anything to do with my self worth, and might make kate laugh too, and that's why this blog exists! and taking the pressure off of creating art like that has been enormously helpful to my mental health and my ability to create, also i take breaks alllllll the time, i'm like...way healthier about my art thanks to that, and also just...a nicer person, i think? anyway i'm very glad that i inspired you to get back into art but i'm far more glad that you've found a passion for it, cultivating that passion and joy is so important
Tumblr media
#a lot of the way i approach art is bc i worked with kids for a while and like. u can kinda tell when a kid is at the breaking point w/ art#where they're like ''if one more thing goes wrong i am going to Lose It''#+ at that point as a ''teacher'' u have to pick between giving them critique on their artwork to improve OR letting it go + saying their#art is good and they're doing really well#and i always pick the second one—LIKE. once the kid is no longer feeling soooo frustrated abt their art that they're at a breakin point?#THEN we can talk critique. and even then i will still tell them what they're doing well#until theyre at that point tho its all ''yeah!!! you're killing it! look at these new skills you're learning! look how you're improving!''#''look how funny/beautiful/exciting/cool your piece is!!!!''#because first and foremost. i think that art should be enjoyed#having creation as a friend and ally vs A Duty is sooo important#TO BE CLEAR LIKE. this is also still technically a form of critique#i dont just say ''good job champ! great work doing art!'' if u wanna compliment art and have it mean something you do have to be#specific about what is good...not ''that looks great!'' but ''wow you draw really fabulously detailed noses!#or ''wow the fashion you're drawing is really cool—i wish i had that jacket!'' like.#as in all things. compliments and praise are only meaningful if they are /meant/ and you cant fake that#MY POINT IS. if we want to take the pressure off ourselves with art. i think we also gotta treat ourslves like this#look at what we're doing and compliment things we genuinely think weve improved upon. love our successes#nothing better for the ego than to compare new art to old art and look at what weve changed#i should do some redraws at some point#my jutsu

We’re stl here! She ra fans are still here!! YOUR fans are still here and not going anywhere! I think a lot of fans are just horny and give more engagement for rated E stuff lol. Also I (personally) try not to bombard my fav writers when I can tell they have shit going on irl- and I know you have dealt with a lot of sickness/pain lately so I dont want to be annoying! Could be the case for others. But we are here :)
aw i do appreciate it <3 ive been having such issues this year it has shaped.... literally everything, from irl stuff to slowing down my writing and also making interacting hard not just with yall but with my friends and family. sometimes messages stress me because i know i cant answer them (especially when i really want to), but i also like talking to you guys a lot its just very difficult at times. ive been having an extended episode for like three weeks now so thats. fun and easy. but! honestly its good to hear that and it is very kind of you <3 rn im on the border where im a little incomprehensible but feeling good enough to kinda ramble.
i feel like i keep mentioning the fandom "shrinking" but honestly i usually bring it up because i know it discourages new people who want to start making art or w/e for catradora and feel like "they missed their chance" but like yeah, youre exactly right, we're still here! if you're interested in catradora, you WILL find other people who still are and we're glad to have you (two cakes, etc).
i don't think the catradora fandom is small by any means, or even shrinking fast, it is just a fact that we used to be very high on the list of top ships, and now we're number 38 - still a big number despite the difference (ive never been in a fandom that ranked before im sure). which is why i brought it up for locked fics now seeing more "engagement" loss than before and part of my motivation to keep working on my stories comes from you guys! because im adhd and struggle with motivation/staying on task lol, so if i cant do something quickly (which hasnt been possible for like a year, you might noticed some of my "long fics" this year are shorter than years previous, though thats also story differences. look at SaD, which i thought would be short, and, well....), hearing other people be invested in it helps to stir up my own investment and keep me going so that was the reason it was a con i had to weigh despite generally focusing on what i like to write/read (side adhd tangent, i love how i started in my fics being like "well i could write adora as adhd or autistic but i worry about my outside perspective" and even worrying about how i do autistic representation to now knowing full well im both and gaining a deeper understanding of my life from it /end). i do think the lock will be very temporary (most likely because the damage is done, but hopefully because of some improvement/we find something new)
i did not mean to harp more on that and i think this will be the last time i mention it im just very rambling right now. anyway this message was sweet and i appreciate you <3

HELP YOUR ART IS SO BEATIFULLLL AJJWDIAGAIVKAKujui I CANT EVEN IT WAS ART BORN FROM HEAVEN I WANTED TO ASK DO YOU HAVE ANY TIPS FOR A STRUGGLING ARTIST?
AGHGH THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!! I'm sooo sorry for the time I took to respond to you. I've been busy and its also a very difficult question, i'll be honest. The thing is you're asking for tips for a struggling artist.... to a struggling artist... so. I'm gonna try my best to give you something concrete and that makes sense, but i don't know if ill be able to- and knowing me, it IS going to be messy, I'm really sorry for that!!
First thing I'm gonna say is, obviously, draw things for yourself. Draw stuff that makes you happy! When I get really into a piece of media, i've noticed that i can see my improvement over a significantly shorter amount of time than usual, simply because, well, i like this stuff, and i like drawing things in relation to this stuff, and i want to draw more because i enjoy this stuff, y'know? It's easy to say and it might sound like it's not really a tip, but from my personal experience, i can say it does make a big difference. So basically, obsess over something and draw it all the time- but then, don't only draw the same thing over and over again, rather insert it into your art and get creative? For example, since we're both Pokémon enjoyers- take characters or pokémon you like and try things out! Focus on different things; shapes, colours, lineart etc. But if you don't feel like making studies or changing anything today, that's also fine, you don't have to. The most important thing is to have fun, or else, you'll get stuck. You don't draw with your head, and that's something that I myself struggle with, so i can't really talk, but having fun when you draw and just not caring about if it works technically or if the anatomy is correct or if others are going to like it- THAT's when you're going to improve, because you're going to like what you're doing and you're going to want to do it even more!
Also, search for inspo! Open pinterest and collect artworks you like, and staaare at them for a very long time. I like doing this. Plus, it usually makes you want to draw, too. This is a very common "tip", but notice what you like about how this person draws that specific thing (hands, legs, noses maybe? or the way they do lineart, or the way they colour), and just slap it on your art. It's like a cool little upgrade and it makes drawing even more fun.
Art takes time... art is a fuck... and we all have sort of a hate-love relationship with it, i think. And you're always going to struggle to a certain extent, because it'd be too good to be true if you could do everything and anything without having to learn and try and fail before. And sometimes you're gonna feel like you don't want to draw, and sometimes artblock will hit you like a truck, and thats ok!! You'll come back to it eventually. Challenging yourself can be great and all, but don't force yourself when you really don't feel like it. Be patient, and be indulgent!! You got this!! We got this!!! We can do it!!

I feel like something that isn't talked about enough is the fact that the reason why so many youths are drawn into this sort of "everyone sucks" sort of mindset is that when you grow up being taught by conservatives, sure there may be a point when they realize just how horrid the political views of their family members are, but have inadvertedly swallowed the slow poisoning against the left over their formative years.
This can be especially harmful to people who fall outside of cultural norms as for so many years they have been at best constantly criticized for who they are or at worst straight up ostracized by friends and family.
They grow up feeling like shit for who they are while being fed conservative talking points about the left and the seed is planted to make them believe that EVERYONE is like that, right or left. Then they see these fringe cases of extremists on the left who also demonize who they are (usually just for other reasons) and it reinforces that idea that its all just hate from all sides.
They are so used to the conservative playbook that its hard to imagine otherwise. Like of course you're gonna buy and internalize the lie of "Those leftists will demonize you unless you are part of a marginalized group" when you are already so used to being demonized if you aren't the "good Christian boy" your family wants you to be, because to you thats just how life works.
Alone this is already bad but it can also get so much worse as having this mindset is when the radicalization begins to seep in. Hategroups LOVE to downplay the absolute fuck out of how the conservative mindset affects our culture while overplaying the effect of people outside that political ideology.
Heres an example: Early 2010s saw a rise in critique against things like sexism, racism, homophobia and lack of representation of marginalized groups in video games. People began treating video games are more than just a leisure activity you turn your brain off and enjoy and more like a serious art form.
On the other hand, gaming had become just about synonymous with this exact group of people. These critiques to them felt like a coordinated attack on gaming (And these sort of people by extension) from the left, and do you know WHY that is? It is because for DECADES there HAD been a coordinated attack on gaming from the CONSERVATIVES, who believed things like "Games cause violence" and were 100% fully IN SUPPORT of censorship.
These people were already so used to the conservative playbook that "Game developers should be more socially conscious" became "Games are sexist/racist/homophobic and should be banned" because they were so used to dealing with "Games are Violent/Satanic and should be banned" because the very idea of being critical of something out of a place of wanting it to improve vs being critical of something because you hate it and want it gone" was so ALIEN to them. Hence near CONSTANT comparisons of Jack Tompson (A lawyer who repeatedly lobbied congress for the banning and censorship of video games) to Anita Sarkeesian (Someone who made videos and WORKED WITH DEVELOPERS as a consultant to HELP their games be better)
Now here comes the Far-right. "Hey buddy heres some talking points to absolutely DEMOLISH the SJWs! Trust me Im just like you Im ostracized by both the left and right. Dont actually think about it too hard. After all it completely DESTROYS them and reinforces the idea you're being attacked"
Suddenly the Alt-right is born out of the lie "Both the left and right are BAD but the left is SO much worse" being left to fester. After all, if you spend enough time learning to "defend yourself" against the Leftists, your views are probably gonna start to align with the conservatives who were all too happy to join your fight against the "SJWs who are trying to DESTROY your hobby."
I think thats also why there are a surprising number of transpeople who held previously reprehensible views in the past, because they grew up ostracized and demonized while also having a bitter hatred to the very people trying to HELP them because all they know is abuse, but eventually they managed to heal from this mindset and get them help and support they need.
Not a day goes by that I don't feel utter CONTEMPT for the person I used to be, but I suppose the reason Im writing this to more fully understand what had lead me to become that person, so that I can hopefully help people avoid making the same mistakes I did. Maybe its even for the better that I will always hate who I was, and that there is likely people out there who will never forgive me for my past. People change but the damage done cannot be undone and its not the job of the people you've attacked to work on seeing you any differently. They don't owe you forgiveness.

hi court!! as an artist speaking to an artist, how do you know when a piece is done?? i love your painterly style but i find that i always end up overworking and overrendering everything i make :( how do you decide like OK thats it!
hiii!! that's a really good question! to be honest i still struggle with knowing exactly when something's done---sometimes you really do have to just forcibly remove yourself from what you're working on and say okay, for right now we're not gonna touch this anymore! it can be like a scab or something, where sometimes you really just have to stop touching it 😭 i also think stepping away from your art and coming back to it hours/days later also just helps you see it with fresh eyes, and even if you still don't think it's done, at least you can more clearly see what the problem is and address that (vs overworking everything). as i go through the whole process i try to keep assessing how i feel about what i've done so far, and if there's certain parts i think i really nailed in the early stages, i try to leave that alone, and then work on other areas and try to improve them.
but the tl;dr of this is that its hard to tell sometimes! there might be pieces where you can kind of feel like its done, but there are also others where you might lose interest in what you're doing, and it becomes done as a result, or there can be times where you just have to draw a line in the sand and call it done, even if its only "done" for the time being...just like most parts about creating art, its beautifully + frustratingly nebulous and non-concrete to pin down LOL

Love your coloring and art style 💖 can I ask you a question how you get better at drawing? I'm new (year 2) and struggling with digital art off and on. It's only been two years I'm drawing digitally but I just want to draw better. Like even better. If you have advice or tips, that's awesome. Hopefully it doesn't come off the wrong way. But thanks in advance.
not me forgetting that I had asks on 😭 if you're still interested, here's the (extremely) late response (again, super sorry 😭)
In terms of coloring, there isn't a lot I can say (being a learner as well), but I think seeing how others color can be really interesting! Do they use reddish hues or blueish hues for shades? Or do they use both? I personally use a slightly desaturated salmon pink-ish color with a low opacity (also desaturated) sky-blue. It can help to try out a variety and finding what works for you!
example: (this is an old piece of mine and I used red and blue as my tools for shading)
Tumblr media
The same can be said for base colors. For those, I recommend color-studies and seeing how relative colors can influence how you perceive the entire piece. Rather than focus on the colors as separate entities (blue as blue, yellow as yellow), it's really helpful to instead look at it instead as something meant to intermingle with (if that makes any sense 🥲).
In a blue-prevalent piece, straight-up grey might look reddish or even pink. In a purple piece, the skin-tone might look like light-magenta than a peachy color. Yet, when you look at the piece as a whole, it definitely looks like a skin-tone.
example: you can tell that the skin looks like a skin tone, but when you actually pull it out and look at it in comparison to a peachy tone, it's purple! And this is because of the idea of relative colors. Against a white background, a color might seem saturated and dark, but against a dark background, the same color might seem super light.
Tumblr media
For lineart (if you do them at all), it might help to experiment with brushes and thickness of lines! Do you prefer boxy lines? Smooth lines? Thick or thin lines? It might seem redundant, but you'll eventually find yourself a style that fits you the best, even if it doesn't seem that way ^^
Another tip I have is that if you have a bunch of artists you really like (whether that be their composition, style, coloring, etc), examine what exactly you like about them and try to imitate it and see how well it works for you! If it doesn't, then that's fine, but if it does, then thats even better!
If you have artist mutuals, do the 'friends' artstyle challenge'! You might learn something interesting that might take your fancy and at the worst, you'll just have more experience under your belt when it comes to style :D
Though it may seem like everyone's saying this and it feels of little use, studies (whether that be pose or coloring) will help a lot! Also, try tracing over those free dynamic pose photos if you want to improve in the aspect of anatomy! Try see where limbs are placed and how they work. It's sort of like seeing the answers to a math question: once you know the answer, you can work backwards to see how to get it :D
Sorry for the delay and super sorry if this isn't of any help at all 😭 Honestly, I don't really know how to do the stuff I do at all, either. Half of the time, I'm just winging it and tweaking stuff until it looks decent, but I hope this helped!
(Also, really really sorry for not replying 😭)

Hey I got a question, as a more or less new artist trying develop their skills, I am having trouble liking the art I make. Like my motivation depletes as I am drawing, cause I feel like I'm not drawing right. Do you have any tips for getting past this? If not that's absolutely okay, just wanted to ask cause you're a skilled artist, and asking questions gives insight.
im honored you'd ask me this anon, genuinly bc....i went through the SAME THING.
so first off yep i am an experienced artist at this point in my artistic journey but that still means i have doubts...many. about my art. doubts never really go away, they always stick but i can say they do lessen.
now that thats out of the way.
there was a time where i HATED my art, hell still kinda do sometimes. just a couple months ago i hit an art block bc i was so jelous of others people's art that i just couldnt make anything i felt worthwhile. and even before that i used to constantly hate my art simply because i wasnt very skilled and still new to art stuff.
the best thing to do for yourself is to accept how your art is right now and continue learning. how i always overcome days where i absolutly despise my art (i do that alot) i grab a couple references from pinterest and from my favorite artists and start learning. when i see my art improving (and u need to keep an open mind to this not doubt every line) i feel better. i feel more confident.
you also have to accept that your art will NEVER look like thiers. not because of skill but because art is a personal thing for everyone. just like everyhuman is different your art will be different and beautiful in a brand new way.
Basically what I'm saying is, give yourself a break. take a moment to breathe when u feel like ur art isnt right. then try learning something new. when u see development, be proud and accept that you're still learning. if i would have given up when my art was...man it wasnt good, i never would be where i am today with my art. im proud of my progress and i promise you as long as you keep going you will be proud of it too. draw what u love and hey if u like my art i tottally encourage u to reference it. i did the same with other artists alot and still do.
also dont think too hard when doing art, trust me it makes everything worse. have fun while drawing get exited! when im upset and drawing it doesnt ussually end up right. so have fun with it and try not too worry too much when something isnt right. you can always redraw it and...please please please reference lol it helps SO MUCH
Tumblr media
okay so its really small but ohmygod eeeewww
this was before covid like 2-3 years before covid
Tumblr media
2019
Maaaan my art wasn't great. But here I am now..satisfied with where I am as an artist when I used to think I'd never get here. trust me all you need is patience with yourself and an open mind to continue learning.
wish u the best of luck anon

Incel!Shinsou x F!Reader fanfic idea (Part 2)
So here we are, Incel!Shinsou is back and this time with a bit of growth that he needs to make independently (While thinking about the reader of course. Thank you so much to @blossominglark for sending in such a lovely message! Also here you can find a small explanation as to why i even started the Incel!Shinsou series.)
"I think I want you. I think you're bad. I think you're good, it's like the love I never had. I think I need you. Oh God, it's true. I think I'm falling and there's nothing I can do" - Beetlejuice Chill by Life After Youth
Part 1: Incel! Shinsou x F!Reader
Part 3: Incel!Shinsou x F!Reader (1/2)
Tumblr media
How difficult could it be? To forget that you ever existed... thats what's haunting Shinsou ever since the conversation you two had a few days ago. He cant seem to focus anymore, everything just reeks of you. (His own bedroom where you two would sit on the floor and work on your project together. You would laugh at something that came on the television, every time resulting in his face heating up and heart beating harder at the sound, the beautiful sound, of your laughter. It doesn't feel the same anymore. He cant sit or sleep there anymore.) Shinsou starts speaking with Aizawa more, to be honest its not like Aizawa gave him that much of a choice. He needed to understand what was happening with his son and you in order to help or bring some constructive input.
Shinsou goes on and on about how he mocked you to his "friends". When questioned on his "friends" he said that they were all telling him that you needed to be taught how to be a "proper woman" the "perfect girl for them".
("Hitoshi what-...why would you...?"
"I don't know! It made sense when i was young and- i... i dont understand how or why and...please just- help me i dont understand!"
"It's ok, it's ok, come here." Aizawa hugs Shinsou tightly. He starts running his hand over Shinsou's hair comforting him.
"What did you show them? What did you tell them about...her, exactly?") A mess of tears and regrets, thats what Shinsou is. A puddle which he somehow drowned you in out of a bitter rage that had nothing to do with you.
Aizawa finally holding a grasp as to how Shinsou's mind worked, he couldn't help but feel defeated. He neglected his son so much he became bitter and resentful towards the wrong people, the wrong person. (Aizawa only ever told Shinsou that his mother moved away from them because it was "too much for her". Young Shinsou couldn't grasp why his mom would leave him, but again he never really asked questions since he saw how upset it made his dad. "Dont worry Hitoshi, ill be here for you no matter what. Got it, problem child?") An intervention needs to be made now. To prevent even more damage, to keep his son safe and his sons ex-friend safe.
"Hitoshi? The posts and things you put online, you need to delete everything now." Urgency was a must, damage control needed to happen now. Who knows if Shinsou wrote about where he lived, where you lived and studied at, if he showed those "friends" of his your face. Who knows how much information he put out there to a bunch of strangers about you. "Ok, ok. Let me delete everything...yeah...thats-yeah...makes sense." He's slipping, Shinsou is slipping into a pit of shock and disgust, he needs to fix things and that only starts by wiping away years of miss informed opinions disguised as truths.
Everything is gone. No more accounts. No more pictures. No more you. He didn't make any announcements or even address why he was wiping everything. He didn't answer the piles of questions flooding his inbox about why he was doing all of this, he just didn't care anymore. He couldn't find you either. No account on any platform with any signs of you. (He should have asked for your socials, but knowing where you two started off at he thinks its better that you two didn't. It saved you from his incessant torment he saw himself being capable of.)
Week one came and went. You didn't show up for classes and people started to take notice.
"Does anyone know why y/n isn't at school anymore? Is she sick?" Midoriya asked one day. Everyone kind of just looked at each other hoping that someone might have an answer. Be it that no one other then Shinsou was in the same class as you, everyone in his friend group knew about you since you where always nice despite the way you presented clothing wise. (The clothing didn't matter nor did the labels, you were still so welcoming to everyone. Hell, you even welcomed Monoma and that guy is considered psycho by everyone.) Shinsou couldn't do anything but listen to his friends (Midoriya, Shoto, Denki, Mina, Iida, and Ururaka) go on about how nice you were. How they miss you. He misses you . He ruined this, he ruined your school experience and pushed you to lose the friends you had because of his own ignorance. He forced you to choice between showing up to school and dealing with him or not coming in at all and losing the friends you had because of him.
The Sports Festival was coming up soon, here all the students would compete against each other to show off their skills. The Festival acts more as an opportunity for the different Courses to fight each other since its focus centers on the physical strength and wellbeing of the students instead of their study of focus. It also helps with publicity by letting UA show off their students to the general public. (Shinsou didn't understand why the school would have a Sports Festival. UA was better known for being STEM and Art focused which meant that many of the students only had to take 1 year of P.E. instead of the 3 years other schools required.
"So again, what's the purpose of this?"
"Its just a chance for the different Courses to bully each other, and for the General Course to get mocked." responded Togeike. Be it that she never spent time with Shinsou, they both had a mutual attitude and just stayed away from each other out of disinterest. It wasn't after Shinsou's personality changed did she feel more comfortable being around him and started speaking to him casually throughout the day.
Tumblr media
"So what does the Business Course do during-"
"Hey, didn't you and y/n work on that project together?" This caught Shinsou of guard. For the past week its all been about you and how you hadn't been coming to class. (You haunt him even outside of school, the guilts too much for him at times.)
"Yeah...what about it." he snarls. Just because he's changed in appearance and largely in attitude, that doesn't mean he's over the way he treats people. Cant she get to the point already-
"Geez man, i just wanted to ask if you needed her number." That...was off. Why would she assume that he needed your number?
"Why would you give me her number? Don't you think that as former project partners i would already have her-"
"You're clearly upset about her not being here, so shut up. Either take it or leave it, jackass." she bit back. How did she know? Shinsou has always had a resting bitch face which made it hard to read his emotions. How did she manage to figure it out? (God he was an asshole!)
"Yeah, please....i'm sorry. I could-"
"Please shut the fuck up, i don't want an apology from you. Take it and fix this shit. I hate seeing people mope and you're pretty much dying in a pit here." Togeike really gives no fucks and she was tired of the purple haired boy looking like a kicked puppy. She assumed it had something to do with you. When you started skipping class, Shinsou also started to look upset and wouldn't speak that often. It wasn't like Shinsou was shy, he just didn't see the need to speak all the time. So to see him become even more silent was concerning.)
He left school that day with a skip to his step. He has your number! He has a way of contacting you! Yet, he still knew that having your number wouldn't fix anything. You left him alone and it wouldn't be fair for him to barge back into your life without proving he's improving, that he's actually deserving of you're friendship at least....
The Sports Festival.....
He can prove himself to you there....
Everyone will see it, every student at UA has to be there for credit....you'll have to be there. You'll also have to participate for the start of it, so you'll have to interact with someone.
(This was it)
This was so much fun to write! Lets give this a slow build up to give him proper character development and redemption. The next part will be the Sports Festival and what he plans on doing to get you back. Let's set up that his intention is too for one, make an impression on the school for when he decides to transfer to the Art Course but also to make an impression on you and get you to notice him in a positive light. Our poor incel is trying his best ok....

Art Advice?
I've been wanting to get back into drawing but I've been out of practice for a few years. I used to trace a lot of character bases and while I think I'd be good to start back at that point, I'm worried that others will say I'm "not a real artist" if I'm tracing yet don't have the confidence to draw something completely on my own without a reference.
So sorry for the long ask!
Sorry it took so long to answer, I was a little all over the place this week I say that as if I''m not always all over the place
Also, I really honored you're asking me for art advice aaaaaaaaa, but anyway here we go:
Ok, I know some people might hate me for this but: Tracing is absolutely 100% ok as long as you don't post the drawing claiming it's your original work. If it helps you feel better about it you can always think of the original drawing as your "sketch layer" and you're simply doing lineart. Or try to find the basic shapes and go from there. Using character bases is also 100% fine. Lots of my friends do that and then they just credit the artist (if the artist allowed to use the base with credit. I don't use base too often not bc I think it isn't a good practice but bc my hand is too shaky to properly ink most of the time.) Or you can always ask artist who post sketches if you can lineart them? I know some ppl would be delighted!!!!
References are a blessing, I use them all the time and I don't think I'm any less of an artist for that. The more you draw the more poses you're able to draw from memory but heck, famous painters paid people to sit for them. And anyone who claims you have to draw without a reference is just a bitter peasant who cannot afford a model (I'm joking about that one, but seriously, there is 0 shame in using a reference, be it photo or drawing. For poses/color compositions. Drawing inpiration is 10000% fine, just don't steal artwork folks)-> pinterest is your best friend, trust me.
And my fave art advice: speed. Take a fricking huge stack of paper and give yourself a time limit. Start with a long one if it makes you feel more comfortable. 1 hours for a sketch? Need longer? thats fine? Too long? Great start with 30 minutes. Once the timer's out its time to finish, no buts. And then just shorten the time span. You don't have to draw a fully colored drawing in under 10 minutes, but it's nice to chalange yourself, so you get more comfortable with your lines. There are so many cool sites that set the timer for you and give you a drawing!!!!!!!
If a drawing isn't working out sometimes it's easier to toss it. I know it's hard and I don't always go through with it but it works wonders with the speed method. Marie Kondo the sh*t out of your doodles.
Post your drawings!!!!! Make a secret account if you're worried about them looking bad but put them out to get them out of your system. Or set yourself a challange that you have to post at least once a week, or twice a week. Not a fully made pic with colors and shadings, just something. F*ck, that did wonders for my motivation.
Step by step youtube guides for drawing are a blessing. I used to religiously watch them as a teen.
Also. Drawing style? Change that as often as you want.
And if anyone tell you you're not a real artist bc you use reference/trace to improve understanding of anatomy tell me and i will steal their f*cking kneecaps for you.

hey guys pro tip for drawing shit for mspfas when it looks boring
USE A NEW PROGRAM
i used to use ibispaint for my panels, this is the kinda shit i got outta it.
Tumblr media
but i switched over to a new program that id never used, medibang, and suddenly my panels improved SO MUCH
Tumblr media
the reason this helps (i think) is that you're gonna wanna try things out, you're gonna be curious, and so you'll end up putting more effort into your panels
also, DONT GET STUCK ON PIXEL ART
if you cant do pixel art THATS FINE
if you dont wanna do pixel art THATS FINE
your shit is still worthwhile. pixel art is HARD
