And "collect boy groups" ahha I love that.. I'm still pretty new to the whole kpop universe, and so far only SVT, ATZ and a little bit of SKZ really got me to keep up with them... For some reason I never really got involved with girl groups and I don't know why that is, tho I certainly appreciate them and as a bi person... I just feel attacked from all sides hahahaha Maybe the pressure on them to be 'perfect' is even worse than with the boys so they don't feel as genuine... idk... I know you said you collect bg but if you have gg recommendations I'm all ears

But it doesn't stop me to sing along to every single song I can hahaha My dream would be to sing with Dokyeom... (my ult of ults <3). And I studied graphic design tho it was a very basic course and I never really used professionally, it became more of a hobby and I have some creations on my blog, but now I make more gifs (yes, I'm a gif maker haha) Is faster and a little less creatively demanding so is good to pass the time and relax... recoloring stuff is definitely my favorite part of the process (your gift will be a gifset btw haha I'm still deciding on what exactly)

I would LOVE to have acting classes and learn to dance and play an instrument too (piano would be my choice) and I feel like the group of people I would meet in these environments would be incredible, but right now I just moved on my own to a new country so money is kinda short hahaha But I keep an eye out for that and I learned that is never too late to start anything

I love that you say YunGi are normal height cause I'm 1,55m so... shorter than the shorties hahahahah I guess that's why I tend to stan giants (from my pov), must be compensating hahahaha

Do you mind sharing what you do for work? And where will you be traveling, that's exciting!! There was not much celebration per se on my birthday haha I knew my friends would all be working, so I booked a little solo trip and got to meet a new town nearby a had heard lots about... And people were definitely right, I loved the place and had an Amazing time!! One day before my birthday I managed to secure tickets to see Ateez in Madrid which I still cant believe!!! It will be my first big scale concert ever and I also gave myself a ticket to watch the ballet "Giselle" next week, so yeah, a pretty great birthday week/month hahah I'm an ambivert with great people skills and I love my friends, but I LOVE my time alone as well, you know? 😅

I do collect them! I pick them up, inspect them, and put them in my bag. You’ve got good taste, “Hot” grabbed me by the throat and did not let me go for a second, the vocals on that are insane. When DK comes out fucking SWINGING?!?!?! I’m manifesting you getting to sing with him, he’s an S-tier fave, we love boys with big ass voices. I used to adore girl groups, but now they’re all so young that I can’t get into them. I remember being on stage as a teenager and 😬 So I still listen to all my 2nd gen nostalgia songs and follow the women in their 30s and 40s instead – when Kara sang “Step” at MAMA I might have teared up just a little. But none of these new girlies could do Hyolyn’s “Laying Low” so I’m fine. Anyway, if you like older girl groups (both have been performing longer and the members aren’t 17), check out EXID, they’re my favorite girl group – “Fire” wasn’t great, but they are, and I missed Solji so much.

Queen Kraken dominated that stage, I cannot beLIEVE she was robbed like that. smh even let Seonghwa ~kill~ her. We need them to sleep, they’re going loopy, I’m always excited for a comeback but I’m even more excited for a NAP.

Recoloring is so fun but it’s still work, and then on top of all the other stuff to make a good gif set? You’re clearly so much more patient than me, even if it is meditative for you haha

Dude, it’s been so great taking classes again. I’m not any good at Meisner technique (my teacher yelled at me frequently, all of which was very deserved, and I respond better in the arts to brutal honesty and tough love, so my monologues are peak now) but it was amazing to get back into that space with such interesting people. There were some who were so annoying, but that’s the risk and it’s worth it imo. And you’re so right that it’s never too late to try, the secret is that there are fewer interesting roles for younger actors than older actors, and so you’re always growing into something better, even just good scripts to read in a class.

They’re, what, 185-ish? I’m 180, we’re sooooo normal. My fatal flaw is that I immediately assume the tallest male idol on stage is my dad’s height (196) and then when I find out they’re 180-185-ish I’m like oh so they’re normal! Normal height! It’s not our fault these other boys decided to stop growing! (Actually tho – my cousin was so mad when she moved to America for college and all her classmates weren’t at least 190. She scolded her dad for being 195 and skewing her expectations for American men, since he was the only American in their small town. If we point out that Japanese men also aren’t known for being 190, she says at least she wasn’t lied to.)

I work for the food and beverage department of a museum. I do the boring back-end invoice tracking, but when I’m on-site during the parties it’s wild. When parties are booked at the museum there’s a specific vibe – expensive and extravagant and ridiculous and a little bit tastefully tacky – and so it’s always just fun. The last one had a whole crew of dancers dressed as Lichtenstein paintings, in big dresses, bigger wigs, and stylized halftone makeup. A couple months ago was a sneaker ball, where people wore eveningwear and (WayV voice) thousand dollar shoes

I’m going to the Vatican! My dad’s there like yeah lmao you don’t have to come but his partner (deeply Catholic) is spiritually twisting my ear like “you witnessed a miracle, your father got out of a wheelchair, you are GOING.” I’m not meeting the Pope, but I get to watch my dad meet him, which I’m relieved about since I’m not Christian lmao.

oh hell yeah snsd paved the way yeah they really did bro they really did. like i know a lot of people came here in 2017 or during quarantine, so let me tell you how things were in 2008. i know that boa and tvxq started it in japan but i lived in the SEA, and it was the mostly the second gens that started it here. back in elementary school where no one actually knows kpop and suddenly, suddenly they all did. initially there was a resistence and dismissive responses, such as why are they wearing such short pants, why are the dances so meaningless (in my culture a dance HAS to have meaning so it took a while until people are accustomed to that), but it was not that long, those 2nd gen sound has such an addictive quality that i think is vital to make people not care about anything else.

it was gee that personally started the hallyu wave in my school. over recess we were begging our teachers to let us play the music in the computer, and after that we just jamming to it and learned the dance in the class. after that there's other snsd tracks like genie and oh! and run devil run, also we started to listen to other groups as well, this "multis aren't true fan" bullshit is nonexistent, almost. there were bigbang and wonder girls and 2ne1 and shinee (+ a lot of people here know shinee and ss501 after boys over flowers, that drama was a major hit, i'm telling you). i remember the boys really loving 2pm's hands up and just jumping and popping on it in the hallway. literally no one knows what are they singing but it slaps, and who cares anyway if we don't understand, we listened to english songs without a clue, too. when a comeback happen one of the friends with internet at home will Inform the class so others could check it out. i read sunday newspapers religiously too so i won't miss a comeback, even if i have to wait for two weeks for a school work that requires visiting internet cafe to finally check the mv. we did so without shame too, i guess not too much stupid things has happened.

around 2012 and 2013 people were a lot more welcoming about kpop groups, and a new wave of groups came up, there were exo and bap and yes, bts. the grip 2nd gen has is really strong, though, around these year snsd also came to my country and outsold some 10000+ ticket for one night. i have a whole meltdown about not getting to see them.

bts went over here as early as mid or late 2013.. i think. i remember someone scribbling "2 kool 4 skool" badge on a school table and asking my friend how the fuck did "bulletproof scoutboys" become "bts" in 7th grade. so like... to the (especilly white) btspoppers, your boys have always been popular, lol. you don't elevate them or shit. they don't need saving. instead they have to dumb themselves down so they could penetrate your thick caucasian skulls. and they don't start shit here. snsd and other 2nd gens did. thing would be a lot more difficult for them without snsd doing the introduction and heavy lifting. but of course, asiawide accolades means nothing, right? of course any asian group needs Enlightened White People approval to truly be seen as popular -_- sorry for the rant i'm really upset with how armys behave towards snsd lately. like know HESTORY, dammit. i have never seen so many people being proud of not knowing a fundamental group? honestly if anyone said "i've never heard about them" about say, snsd and bigbang, that's just makes me not going to take their opinion seriously, lol. ah, here comes the newbie sprouting opinions after knowing one album of one group. better leave them alone.

(Idk... I think I might seem like an older kpop fan but I got into kpop in 2015. I’m one of those people who when getting into sth they really dig further until the origin of a thing, especially when it comes to music. So I know a lot about 1st and 2nd gen too, and I am mainly a fan of 2nd and 3rd gen bc I’m more around the same age as late 2nd gen - 3rd gen kpop idols, we grew up around the same time so I relate to them the most. Monsta x our beans, welp we can officially say we are army wives for them because shownu is now at the military and just welp this feels weird lol. I lowkey forgot he was meant to enlist so when the news came out I went through so many emotions. Its why the latest comeback feels a bit bittersweet to me. It is their BEST for sure and for this year, I agree so to not see him perform right before he left is a bit sad. I don't blame him of course (if anyone does i am fish slapping you) but just a shame. I'm happy we do get content with him still? Seems pre-planned so that is nice!

Onto legends exo, fantastic comeback. I cannot stop listening to the album, its just bops full of bops to me. They broke so many records and I'm over here sipping my tea because fudge yes. It isn't a full member comeback, 2 of the members featured in the comeback are off playing call of duty and they still did THAT. While having lay properly in the comeback!? (Or at least some form, better than tempo era!) Kyungsoo my beloved, the man that can swoon you off your feet, his proper solo album. Omg I am just in love? The album feels like a Playlist that you hear while taking a walk or on a raodtrip? I love it, I just love everything about this with how much thought was given. It makes me feel warm and I'm so proud of him (I think he even got a first win) but sadly xiumin got the it shall not be named virus D: I feel so bad and I can only hope he gets better! It makes me worried because I keep seeing more and more idols getting sick and I can't help but wonder why don't the kpop entertainment just put a pause with stuff? Of course that is VERY unrealistic, I am aware that is naive for me to think but its just so idk how to word it properly (my English brain is not working I am sorry) I cannot help the feeling of while I get people are being safe and yes we need to still live like normal beings, is it worth risking idols health just for some entertainment? Idk how to explain my thoughts properly but maybe I hope I made sense!!

Onto svt! That is perfectly fine to not vibe with a comeback! I will admit, I didn't fully vibe with this comeback and it shocked me because every comeback was a hit to me. Even fear, left and right or homerun where I know many fans were split on, I liked but RTL was a grower. For me, listening to it without watching the mv, helped it alot and it is a song I like. Is it their best? No I don't think so but it is alright to say "hey I didn't bop to this, not my cup of tea" (imo I blame the mv? The mv REALLY didn't do the song justice at all, I am sorry if I sound like a fake fan but this mv Just is bad in all aspects. Sure we have some pretty shots but like it just doesn't fit at all?) So if anything listening to the song or wishing the live performances does it better. Seeing the choreography amps the song up more, cannot go wrong with their dancing. As for the rest of the songs, I admit game boy is my top favorite? Idk if it is because I am a gaming nerd and found all the production of the song so creative but yeah. We can wait for the next comeback! Svt always have something up their sleeves, plus we do have their music projects to look forward too (I wonder when we will get one? Seeing as RTL promotions stopped) some positive news with the boys is they resigned like a year before their contract ends and I'm a bit emotional :') I'm excited to see the boys future projects. We did have caratland recently! Did you watch it if I may ask? We did get in the soop confirmation so I'm excited to watch that, the boys deserve that nice break (even if it was filmed for a show fjsbsns)

our shownu is at war *looks into the distance* *wipes away tear* *sighs* by now I got used to enlistment news (see what happens when you stan 2nd and 3rd gen groups) but STILL [[IT HURT]] when they uploaded the monchannel videos of his goodbye day like ????? what kind of twisted mind diuhdfuihdifuhs but the boys were all so cute and soft but they seemed so sad they didn't want to let go of their super leader :(( I hope he's learning lots and making new friends (and also we've got our international super spy yoo kihyun giving us small updates on him every now and then so everything's fine!). Yeah I totally get you it felt empty without him this comeback and at first it didn't really clicked with me but when the enlistment news came out i understood he had to take care of his health and thoroughly check on his eye sight in order to be 100% ready for the military so it made sense he had to be absent :( everything was so close (the comeback and enlistment) that I'm sure there was no other way for doing it I'm pretty sure he couldn't maybe postpone the enlistment day any further

onto exo! my ksoo my soft boi my romantic boi 🥺 his album is so him SO HIM i can't explain it bur it's just HIM you know it's the type of album you'd play on loop on a summer afternoon when you've taken your papers and paints outside in the garden to paint a bit with the warm soft breeze moving the trees lightly 🤧 and he signs in English and SPANISH (he did it for me) my multilingual king he's a native. Also I've been watching Honeymoon Tavern with Jongin these days and OMG i could d word for him really (if you haven's watched it go do it when you have time) he's SO SOFT and SO CUTE and he works as a waiter and a wedding planner and helps with the room preparations and is also a tour guide and he's just so cute so happy al the time the way he interacts with everyone is so 🥺🤧😭 onto more serious stuff now: yeah i was so worried about minseok catching covid omg but i'm glad he went through it with our any major complication and the rest of the boys are safe too! as for seventeen! yeah i like the songs too! the mv sure ruined rtl and listening to it without watching it has really helped it grow on me more but still it feels kind of meh to me idk i really like anyone i think it's my favourite from the album. I agree about Sorry Sorry and Ring Ding Dong. Those songs are untouchable. If anybody criticizes those songs, I would personally show them the door lol. Those songs were also the songs that introduced me to KPOP. I have to admit if Ring Ding Dong didn't have "Babe nae gaseumeul meomchul su oh crazy, ....", I wouldn't have liked it as much. I don't know if this is considered the chorus or pre-chorus but it's still catchy. Not only that but I liked SHINee's vocal's in this part.

About streaming culture, I remember being introduced to it during the time when I was still into KPOP but I was so confused about it. I was like "since when have we been doing this shit?".

Recently, I've been trying to vote for Super Junior since I just got into them as a group despite listening to their music for 12 years. (I don't know why I didn't stan them sooner.) Like you said, it would be nice to give something to the older groups. However, the voting app (Fan N Star) was so laggy that I just gave up. I'll find another way.

I think I feel guilty about not streaming and voting because a lot of people my age or younger are the ones who have the time to do so.

Also, you mentioned that in 2017, you started to get back into KPOP. 2017/2018 was the year that I started to fall out of KPOP. Since a lot of groups were starting to go on hiatus and disband, I tried to get myself into recent and current groups but it didn't work. I disliked them and as more of my fav groups started to disband, that dislike manifested into hate. While I didn't publicly throw hate, it was still unhealthy to hold ill feelings towards them, so I just let go of KPOP and became a casual listener.

I missed out on a lot of things these past few years and while I wished that I was actively into KPOP during those times, I think it was a good thing that I tried to get myself sorted out and try new things. I still don't like recent groups due to personal preference but throughout those years that I missed, I realised that I shouldn't force myself to like anything. As of now, I don't harbour that much ill-feeling towards any groups. KPOP is just a hobby. Why should I take it so seriously, right?

I feel you, I felt like I was behind on the whole voting thing. So many apps, so many rules, so much everything!

Yeah, late 2017 was when I started to get back into kpop and it was not for a good reason, it was because of what happened with Jonghyun. I couldn't believe it, and it sent me off on a binge to find out what else had been going on in the kpop world since 2011 when I became a casual listener (I had been a fan for a couple of years before that). At the time in 2017 BTS were just exploding internationally, i kept hearing about them everywhere and curiosity got me into them. I definitely enjoyed their music and I was quite a hard-core fan for about 2 years. Then gradually became less involved as I got into other groups and split my time between them.

But you are absolutely right. Being a fan doesn't need to be super serious at all. You can pick and choose what you spend your time and money on, and even just enjoying your idols' music is enough. You can do as much or as little as you want, as long as it comes from a good place 😊

As for recent groups, it's hit and miss for me. There's a lot of focus on EDM in kpop nowadays and even though I think it's cool and makes for amazing choreography, it's never been my favourite music genre.

I do have groups at every generation that I'm a fan of though:

1st gen - Shinhwa (they are legends, going strong for 23 years and counting!!)

2nd gen - Super Junior and SHINee, BIGBANG, as a soloist I like Sunmi. I consider her 2nd gen because she originally debuted with Wonder Girls

2.5 gen - VIXX

3rd gen - for 3rd and 4th gen in general I'm a casual listener. BTS, Monsta X, KNK, as a soloist Ha Sungwoon (originally debuted with HOTSHOT who are inactive, and was in Wanna One)

3.5 gen - KARD

4th gen - (G)-Idle, Everglow, TXT, now getting a little into Stray Kids

Do you have any irl friends that like kpop?

Yeah! Almost all my irl friends like kpop.

How old were you when you first got into kpop?

I was 18.

What song(s) took you a while to warm up to?

SuperM’s Jopping for sure, SNSD’s I Got a Boy too. Both songs took me a while to jam to them.

Have you ever disliked a group/idol? If so, why? (You don’t have to say who it is if you’re scared of getting hate).

Oh yeah. There are a few idols that I get really shady vibes from? Mostly because they do seem fake / unrelatable whatsoever / act all superior than everybody else.

What do you love the most about kpop?

I love the makeup, and I love the creative concepts aside from the songs and how the idols experiment with genres and musical styles.

Do you only listen to kpop?

No. I do listen to a lot of indie/alternative stuff, half of which are from OSTs. I do owe my love for indie/alternative music to my high school classmates - my lab partner has epic musical taste and is creative AF.

Who are you favorite western artists (if you have any)?

Arctic Monkeys, The Kills, The Kinks, Franz Ferdinand, Stars, The Strokes, Bloc Party, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Neon Trees. That’s... all I can think of so far.

Usually the overly cutesy songs annoy me, I can’t really specify but yeah, the overly cutesy songs where the singers kind of have to sing/rap in that cutesy voice just ugh, no.

What aspects of kpop make you cringe/feel secondhand embarrassment?

Again, the overly cute songs/concepts that seem to cater to dirty older people... Even more if the choreography matches that. UGH.

Which concepts do you love?

I am a sucker for supernatural / fantasy concepts or movie-inspired ones. Futuristic ones too. 2NE1 and f(x)’s street styles are also A+ for me. VIXX’s concepts from vampires to zombies to androids is hella cool (they’re the standard tbh). EXO’s aliens with superpowers concept is amazing af too. Groups that also show mature concepts as they get older is also A+ for me.

Which concepts do you hate?

I really don’t like again, the overly cutesy concepts. There’s a level of sexy that I just don’t like either. Those are skips for me.

What do you look for in a bias?

Ooh, looking at my biases, I usually go for vocalists for some reason. Minhyun’s a vocalist, Yunho’s a vocalist, Jaehyun’s a vocalist, Woong is a vocalist. Leo is a vocalist.

Which kpop company do you hate the most?

Probably right now, I can only think of YG. YG himself has this god complex over his artists - YGTB was one whole-ass example of him demonstrating that rules don’t apply to him. Also, YG disbanded 2NE1 and threw Bom under the bus. Like nah, you can’t do that to my queens/role models.

What are you opinions on shipping?

Like before I was like “yessss i ship this one and this one and this one” but then now I just think it’s okay as long as fans don’t take it too far and make such a big deal out of it. Like yeah, we know they’re good friends, you don’t need to sexualize everything they do/every interaction they have.

How did you get into kpop?

Funny story! I was crying in college because the guy I liked said I wasn’t his type. It also happened to be the birthday of a friend of mine. When I got home, i remembered one of my high school friends telling me to listen to Sorry Sorry and I got hooked ever since.

Has anyone ever made fun of you or looked at you weird for liking kpop?

No, not really. I gave them the stinkeye if they did.

What is the cringiest thing you did when you were starting to get into kpop?

AH. Too many to mention.

It took me days to learn Super Junior. But I don’t think I really count? But I know it just usually takes me days to learn names of members in a group.

Mostly boy groups.

I only listen to 2 girl groups - 2NE1 and f(x) but I only anticipate their music, nothing more than that tbh.

If you could hang out with one idol, who would you hang out with?

Jaehyun (NCT). We’d totally spend the day listening to his records and binge classic movies. Either him or Seonghwa tbh.

It's okay, ask away! ^^ I stumbled across BTS by accident...which may indicate just how much I live under a cultural rock. I actually don't usually listen to much pop music. I'm a classically trained composer and video game soundtracks and moody indie/rock are more my jam, but last year I heard the YouTube ad that uses part of DNA and it intrigued me. I didn't know which song it was so I ended up listening through quite a bit before finding it...and fell absolutely in love along the way! So I have a soft spot in my heart for DNA. How about you, Sparkle? What got you into BTS?

So first, I hope you're having a too day/night! It's been a very long and busy one for me. I'm so glad to be off. Alsooo, I've been into Kpop for around 10 years now, so I've always enjoyed and I have a soft spot for 2nd gen kpop groups. When BTS started to get popular I didn't like them at first. Thank you, you too! I live in the US (California, to be somewhat specific) and so far there have been two confirmed cases in my county. I'm grateful the university I work at is (finally) taking precautionary measures by banning large gatherings and moving classes temporarily online, and that I can continue working unless there is a full campus closure... Trying not to be too anxious about things that are simply out of my control and hoping that things gradually work out and improve. I'm also grateful for the community here, even if I don't know anyone personally, it is nice to come online and see people being reassuring and encouraging to each other from all across the globe.

I truly wish that my job would take some measures, and they have yet. I work with the general public a lot as a secretary. So it's like seriously having me on edge. I know the schools year have temporally closed down and moving things to online since it was spring break here. As well as the public schools closing for a month. Honestly, I'm not sure if I have a favorite moment honestly. Lol. They were all good moments, but I did quite enjoy watching all the ON performances. What about you?

I truly hope your employer catches on soon and makes accommodations so that you can practice some social distancing and have a safe work environment. We were just informed today that we have to work from home two days next week, on rotation, to keep our department staffed but also reduce the number of people on the floor -- for next week only so far, but I won’t be surprised if it continues past that. I can’t fulfill all of my responsibilities from home, so I’m grateful that they are allowing us to complete online trainings and such in the meantime. I am also so glad it’s Friday. What a week it’s been.

Ahh, I love ON! As a former member of drumline and marching band, I have such a fondness for the drum corps elements they incorporated into the music and background choreography. I was excited for the Official MV version too, so beautiful and thought-provoking! I also looove Black Swan (JIMIN’S DANCING EEK). I haven’t been as excited about something in a long time as when I stayed up late to catch their first performance on James Corden. So while I’ve enjoyed all of the comeback (especially as it’s my first!), that was particularly memorable for me. The surprise MV drop was also lovely 🦢🖤

I love tabletop games, and I play a lot of video games too. So don't get me wrong, I am huge into video games, but I don't play them as often. my boyfriend uses his PS4 all the time. I'm still trying to get through SpiderMan, but that's also because I don't wanna end it. I'm almost finished though. And yes! It's so hard to choose just one honestly, so I get your dilemma. Yay!! Sounds like we might have that in common. I have a huge appreciation for video games (and video game soundtracks is one of my favorite ‘genres’ of music, recognizing that they’re incredibly diverse of course), but I spend more time watching videos of other people playing them than playing them myself haha. We have a PS4 too. SpiderMan looked fun but I never tried it! I loved watching my partner play FFXV and Death Stranding. Trying to remember what I’ve actually finished on PS4, it’s been awhile lol... Oo I forgot I watched some of Horizon Zero Dawn too! Very impressive game. It looks like a lot of fun and I might try to play it myself in the future.. but like you said, it’s easy to get distracted. Life just likes to get in the way huh. Have you seen/heard of Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice? Intennnnse. I’m an absolute coward when it comes to horror games (or movies) and somehow my partner tricked me into playing one of the scariest parts because he got too scared HAH. Yayy Yoongi! I really do love all of BTS, and while the maknae line ran off with my heart, I have a big soft spot for Yoongi. I was never really drawn to rap/hip-hop except maybe Linkin Park like in middle school am I dating myself until I met Yoongi and just… wow. ._. He’s so expressive in his delivery, his lyrics are heart-breakingly raw and honest, and he has extraordinary range between his gentlest material and the lines that come at you with a knife. Also I’m so proud of him for continuing to work as a producer and refine those skills on top of his life as an idol. What are your favorite things about Yoongi? If you can even choose haha 💗

Dying over your Resident Evil reaction because... SAME lol. However. I have enjoyed watching some playthroughs of 7 and the remake of 2, which is the closest I will ever come to watching a horror movie again. xD I have really fond memories of playing Spyro at my cousin’s house as a kid, but haven’t tried the remake yet! It looks like fun too. There are too many good games to choose from, not nearly enough time to play lol.

If I may tell a story, my discovery of BTS went like this: heard a music clip in a YouTube ad of all places (normally skip them lol but I got it a couple times at work and thought hmm this is catchy). Then had to dive into some compilation videos to figure out which heckin song it was (turned out to be DNA). But along the way I found more songs I liked. And then I fell HARD for the Mic Drop MV (again, a little strange for me, because it’s pretty hip-hoppy). Jungkook makes this super intense expression at one moment that made me go oh. hello. So then I slowly learned who the different members were, and since this was me mostly streaming YT in the background at work haha, I had to keep switching tabs to check who was singing. I loved Jungkook’s singing but then also realized that I loved Jimin’s sweet voice too (yes I admit when I was first getting to know them, I could not always tell them apart). And THEN mister baritone Tae with his unique falsetto and delicious low range (I really wish they featured his chest voice more but OH WELL I digress) snagged my attention and ANYWAY long story short that’s how I fell in love with BTS and also the entire maknae line I guess. :’)

Yes, somehow my sister convinced me to get it like she was going to play the game too, and she did not. I ended up exchanging the game because I'm like this is a waste of money. haha. I usually always skipped them too, so I totally understand. Everyone I knew liked but I had stopped listening to kpop for a while after the members of Big Bang went into enlistment (sad sad times). I first heard Dope. The FBE Youtube channel reacted to them, and I'm like OKAY GUYS. 1/3 -sparkle 💫✨

When Jungkook hits that high note I was like COME THROUGH VOCALS. So then naturally I had to go and look a few more videos. This was during around the time they had appeared on the AMAs the first time. And then I listened to I Need U and Save Me (this is one of my favorites). And I was hooked. I went and watched their Ellen interviews, and they're so sweet. I ended up binge watching their variety show and Bon Voyage and I was hooked then. -sparkle 💫✨ 2/3

Run BTS was when I realized that Yoongi was my bias. Because I'll admit that I did not like him at first, but I said that already. And then I just realized how sweet and funny he actually his. And I think he's just shy at times. At least in the beginning, but he's so handsome and his stage presence is like a 360 from him being off stage. If that makes sense. I could go on for house about Yoongi. Lol. -sparkle 💫✨3/3

The high notes in Dope are pretty ridiculous because they’re at the start of the phrase so they get little to no preparation lol. Their vocal abilities are truly impressive... and then they do it all while dancing :’)

I agree that Yoongi’s stage presence is strikingly different from his real self! Or the self we get to see in their behind-the-scenes content lol. Possibly like a lot of people, I thought he was super intimidating and tough until I saw more of him offstage... and then went awww he’s a big softie who just doesn’t pull his punches when he’s rapping and producing.

Do you have any favorite Run BTS episodes? So far I’ve only watched a handful of the recent ones, but all the random gifs and clips of older content warms my heart or makes me laugh. I’d like to eventually watch them all from the beginning... some day lol. (see all previous mentions of being too busy to do anything fun outside of work haha)

They are ridiculous. I love when they hit high notes in songs. All the boys have such a beautiful range, and I love hearing them. Especially when they do their solo songs. Jimin's solos are normally my favorite because his voice is the type I tend to lean towards a lot His stage presence is so different! Just like Jhope's. It's always so different, but it's them all in a nutshell, if that makes sense. Lol. I was in Chorus for a while, and I liked it begin in a group. -sparkle 💫✨1/2

It's easier being in a group, but I could never do it by myself. And favorite Run episode? Hmmm, there are so many that I love. I prefer some of the older episodes to some of the new ones. I'll have to find them again, but there was one where they were doing like this haunted house type of thing and it had me dying of laughter. They're all so funny though. I'm still trying to catch up with some of the new ones they've been doing. -sparkle 💫✨2/2

The vocal line is so wonderful, but I’ve been increasingly impressed with the rap line’s singing too. I have always liked the beginning of Spring Day and I confess it took me an embarrassingly long time to wonder which one of them was singing, and I was surprised to learn that it’s Namjoon. Also his low line in Louder Than Bombs is wonderful... I don’t even care if it’s probably autotuned a little lolol. And I only recently found out about the song Sea, but Tae’s chest-range melody at the very end.. UGHGHGGH it’s too. good. (DEAR BIGHIT COMPOSERS, MORE BARI PLS.)

I had to sing in choir in grad school and ended up enjoying it way more than I thought I would. (I’m a composer/pianist and I needed ensemble credit.) I’ve always been really self conscious about my voice, and now... I would love to take vocal lessons some day. While I know that no two people will play an instrument exactly the same, it’s kind of magical that you don’t know what the true sound or full potential of your own singing voice will be until you train it. Do you play any instruments? :)

The vocal line is amazing. I love all of their voices for different reasons, and sometimes I'm in the mood for one, and then another time I'm in the mood for another. If that makes sense. I haven't listened to Sea that much, but it is such a beautiful song! And you're right. His chest tone HELLO VOCALS. Lol. I'd love to take vocal lessons one day, but not sure if I ever would. SPRING DAY!! 🌸🌸🌸 One of my all-time favorites. I honestly might not have a very good awareness of what is underrated and what isn’t, especially among older songs, but... I love Spring Day, The Truth Untold, Jamais Vu, and most recently Sea... lol hm I’m sensing a trend of bittersweet/melancholy songs. But also House of Cards (it’s just so delightfully WEIRD and dark and different??). On the other end of the spectrum (although not sure if it’s underrated?), Silver Spoon/Baepsae. What a jam. Love to tune out the world with that one at work on one of my walk breaks if I had a frustrating day. And maybe it’s too early to tell from MOTS 7, but I get the impression that I might love Louder Than Bombs way more than the average army. And that’s okay :)

We Are Bulletproof pt. 2 took awhile to grow on me but I was happy when it did. I can be a little odd about the order in which I listen to songs, and usually need to listen in album order, but for some reason I really like that one after No More Dream. Also, though it’s hardly underrated, I now know what all the fuss is about Cypher pt. 3. I’ve been gradually purchasing their older albums (kinda out of order) and finally got to Dark & Wild about a month ago haha. I’m listening to all these mad songs now. Been in a weird sad mood for a lot of today tbh and... mad bts is helping a little haha. So is chatting with you!

I’m probably overreacting about the dashboard, but something about that bubbly serif font is irritating haha. And I don’t see this mythical option to revert to the old dashboard that people are talking about in their settings. Boo. I’ll get over it... eventually haha.

The Truth Untold is one of my favorites, and I normally don't like ballads a lot. It takes me a while to get into them, but this one just caught my eye. I'm learning Korean, and it's one of the ones that I can sing along too while reading the lyrics! I am super proud of that accomplishment. When I was going through their albums after I got into them, I skipped the older ones at first. I wasn't sure if I really liked them. -sparkle 💫 1/2

Oo that’s awesome that you’re learning Korean! Are you self-studying? How long have you been studying? I’ve been studying Japanese for several years (very slowly lol). Then a few months ago, thanks to BTS, I was suddenly really interested in learning Korean too. I worked on memorizing hangul for a week and then had a “lol what am I doing” moment when I realized I didn’t know nearly enough Japanese yet to realistically tackle two challenging languages at the same time. So Korean is on hold for now, but I really wish I could just… magically be fluent haha. It would be amazing to understand their lyrics or interviews/conversations on the spot without relying on translations. And English is stupidly difficult, so as much as I appreciate how much effort they’ve put into learning too… as an international fan, I wish I could return that effort too and learn their language so that they don’t feel like they need to learn English.

Love Yourself: Answer was my first album and I purchased that one specifically because it was a compilation and contained most of the individual songs I already knew I liked from YouTube haha. Then I expanded from there. To be honest, if I had found BTS when they were just getting started, or anytime before HYYH, I probably wouldn’t have connected with their music, sound-wise or thematically. But… they were exactly what I needed when I did finally find them. And now I have immense appreciation for their beginnings and how far they’ve come, even loving some older songs/styles that I never expected to. As I mentioned, I don’t usually listen to pop or rap/hip-hop… like ever haha. But something about them just reached into my heart and I’ll be forever grateful to them.

Yes! I am self learning. I have been doing it on and off for like two years, but the last part of last year I've been doing it most often. However with everything that's going on, it's kind of slowed down and I've just been focusing on what's going on in the world right now. I feel the same. I think if I would have found them before, I don't think I would have liked them as much as I do now. I think that’s awesome that you’re working on learning the language on your own! And I understand the challenges of keeping it up independently, especially in such strange and challenging times... I feel guilty that I stopped my daily kanji studying pretty much as soon as I started working from home. It was initially because I used my commute time to study (I’m in a vanpool) and... definitely lost some motivation once everything started changing. I know I shouldn’t be too hard on myself though for taking a break, and I hope you are not either. I’m hoping to get back into soon and reform some study time habits :)

Yeah it sounds like you’ve been listening to Kpop for a long time! ^^ Aside from my fairly recent BTS obsession, I gravitate toward moodier music in general haha. Evanescence was my instant favorite way back in middle school and... tbh I still listen to their albums sometimes! I tended to like anything indie-ish with piano or rock + orchestra. I loved this European band Within Temptation, their music is like a blend of rock and symphonic orchestra. Nowadays, I love video game music and that’s probably what I listen to the most... Nobuo Uematsu (Final Fantasyyy), who is probably one of my biggest inspirations for pursuing composition, Austin Wintory (Journey, Abzu, etc), and more recently Jessica Curry (everything the Chinese Room studio made lol). The past few days I’ve been streaming the songs from Death Stranding. I admit I don’t tend to have a lot of variety... I’m kind of picky and when I find something I love, I will listen to that obsessively over and over for months on end. Like BTS. xD No regrets haha! But I know I should broaden my horizons too...

I'm trying not to be so hard on myself, but I know I'll get back into it soon as I set a schedule for myself. Evanescence is amazing, that's all I got to say. Love and War is the first song I found by Fleurie, and it’s also the title of one of her albums. It’s a little bit older but probably my favorite overall! I love the song Hurts Like Hell. It’s devastating but beautiful.

Let me spill some tea

My roommates here are getting on my nerves lately. You know how I’ve talked about the fake ass stans who pretend to love SHINee even though they only know Ring Ding Dong or View? Well, I have two (Borderline 3) girls living with me who fit under that category. Let me rant just for a bit so I can get it out before I freak out on one of them.

So two of these girls are like hard BTS stans, like, in their first week in Korea, they’ve probably dropped like nearly 1,000 on tickets to see BTS. Fine. But, they also claim to love all these other groups. Even though one of them looked at me and said they she only buys BTS albums, except for Poet|Artist because how could she not. But I would bet she didn’t even listen through the full album.

Then I went to Karaoke with them last night and that was a mess. They kept controling the pad for songs so the girl I share a bedroom with and I barely got any say in the 2.5 hours we were there. I convinced them to play Ring Ding Dong (Becuase they ‘love’ the song omg) and MttM. When Ring Ding Dong came on, they only sang the chorus and it ended up being me and one of the other girls who is the borderline one I was talking about singing it. But Married to the Music came on and giiirrrllll. I sang that song solo and got a 98%. But that, there proved to me that they are all lying ass hoes so be calling themselves SHINee stans. Like, if most people call themselves stand they should at lest know the title tracks and repacked songs when they get an entire music video !!! But that night I also requested Jonghyun and Taemin and SNSD and f(x) but they don’t know them well enough so ig that they didn’t feel like watching me sing to a song I like, like I did when they sang Mic Drop or Spring day or Fake Love or DNA or any of the other BTS songs they sang to. iddkk

I don’t care who you’re a fan of or who you like/dislike. I don’t care what kind of ‘kpop’ you like. But how dare you sit in the livingroom and talk about how SHINee died with Jonghyun and continue to talk about how you’re glad you ‘saw the older groups before they died’ like SNSD, Beast, TVXQ, Super Junior, SHINee, Sistar, and 2ne1. ITs fine if the group disbanded, but a lot of them haven’t. What’s worse is that you continued to talk about SHINee in a negative light as I walk in the room when you damn well know that I love them. Just because you’re all fake ass SHINee stans doesn’t give you the right to talk about them like you know anything. They are one of the highest selling SM groups, and they are one of the few 2nd gen groups to go without a member quitting (Don’t make me go there). Again, I don’t care if you like their music. I know their music doesn’t quite hit in the same style as BTS, but please, show some respect.

Also, like a sidenote, but they were also talking about how Wanna One and EXO shouldn’t have won awards because BTS deserved them and how they really just don’t measure up to their boys.

Like please. You are the kind of stans that I hate. Popularity doesn’t always equal being the best. BTS are not the best performers, the best singers, or the best dancers. I’ve heard it from friends who have seen them live. They do not have that great of a stage presence. You have to be able to admit that your group wont always be the best at everything and that’s the tea. BTS are popular, yes they are more popular than many groups currently, but all is takes is a comeback or a mistake to change a lot. the entertainment business is to temporary. and being proud of your group isn’t a bad thing, but that doesn’t give you the right to ignore and denouce another group’s hard work with claims that it’s because they are from a big company or becuase there is a bias going on. Bull shit.

Idk im tired and upset. Don’t @ me becuase I’m not that concerned with you sending me hate to defend your group.

this isn’t meant to hate on any particular group, its rahter just me ranting about the people im living with rn.

What do you prefer?: first, second or third gen kpop songs?

I generally prefer second generation??? I think????? I like a bit of all of them tho. but like there is no definitive answer to when each of the generations start and end so like I don't even know??? but most of my fav groups as far as music goes are older around 2nd gen but a fair amount of them are gen 3, I have a really strong love for kpop that was released between 2009-2014.

Tell me a fun childhood story (I’ll start! One time an aunt gave me money to buy ‘papas’ (potatoes) at the grocery store so bc I’m obedient af I went and asked the counter lady how many of em could I buy with the money I had so she went ‘uhh, not many tbh’ so i ended up getting like two and when I returned to my aunt’s house she laughed her ass off and said: I meant ‘papas fritas’ (potato chips) Not those! - and uh yeah this is funnier in Spanish but it proves that I’m such an innocent angel I mean wow)

ok so I spent a lot of time at my aunt Lori’s house when I was a kid (like summers, and after school) and my cousin was the BUG queen so she hand made leashes for her pet toads (that she caught) and we walked them around on leashes for like a week but I was always so afraid of them and also hurting them so I WAS NOT ABOUT THAT ahahaha dumb story but it makes me laugh alsoalsoalsdo they had this bench swing in their back yard and my cousin my sister and I would swing on it together for hours at a time and one time we were swinging real hard (REAL HARD) and the links?? or whatever that held it to the ceiling it was hanging from snapped and the three of us of us flew off of it and we all collectively blacked out??? it was so weird but I woke up to my cousin stuggling to get me off of her and then there lays my sister underneath the bench just blacked out chilling (she was fine) then my aunt came running out cause she had just heard the loudest crash ahsdfasdf not long after my uncle put stronger links on it and that bench is still there! From time to time when the three of us get together this story gets brought up its still the most hilarious thing ( ALSO CLOUD YOU ARE SO PURE I LOVE)

A colorful journey of being a FANGIRL /girl group EDITION/

Well.. this post is about me sharing some experience about my career in the KPOP world as a fangirl. It’s been 10 years since I became a fan so I’ll reminisce. The topic for this post is about GIRL GROUPS since I’ve only stanned few boy groups (but I’ll have separate appreciation post for that). Click that Keep Reading button :D

Disclaimer: This list and story are based on my experiences and personal preference. I’m not forcing anyone to like my opinion or to agree with me.

The Beginning

I’m a KPOP fan that started in 2009 because of the influence of 2ne1. Sandara Park is my idol before and when 2ne1 debuted I supported their songs, waited for their MVs to appear on Myx channel that we have in out TV because there is no Youtube that is available yet. I listened to their songs I don’t care and Fire. Then I have an older cousin who let me listen to 4 Minute’s songs like Mirror Mirror and Ready Go.

Then 2010 arrived, before the school year started I played with my guy friends and one of them let me listen to Girl’s Generation. Oh! is my favorite, I even stream it in youtube and listen to it repeatedly. Also I listened to Gee and even memorized the lyrics. When I am attending school, I had friends that are also KPOP fans and they influenced me to listen to Big Bang, the first Boy Group that I admired (I’ll tell my story on Boy Groups in another post). Then we fangirl to 2ne1 and Big Bang. We listened to I am the Best which is the hit song of the year and also Fantastic Baby (which is Big Bang’s). We dance to the song (I am the best).

I was a hardcore Black Jack when 2012 came and I had discovered a lot more groups. I continued listening to 2ne1, 4 minute and SNSD songs then adding to the group that I liked are f(x) with Hot Summer, After School with Flashback, Kara with Pandora, Miss A’s I don’t need a man also T-ara’s Bo Peep Bo Peep and SISTAR’s Loving U. I remember discovering these songs because MTV and Channel V has like this programs where they play MV’s of KPop groups. I downloaded all of the Girl Group songs in my phone (and also boy group of course) especially when I find it cute/charming/catchy and good. This craze continued until before all of these group disbanded/ had member(s) left. (Or maybe the rise of 3rd Gen Idols).

I’m almost ready to say that I’ll retire sooner or later since majority of the groups that I listen to has now disbanded or some members left (but still I’m hoping that they’ll do some reunion) /other reasons; I’m in college already so priorities/. This state (many 2nd Gen Groups disbanding/Hiatus) because its tough competition with the 3rd Gen; same case with Boy Groups. I like these 2nd Gen to 2.5 Gen groups (according to wikipedia) and I can say they became popular because of their hardwork not because they debuted under a popular company and became overrated and they have sincere music and to showcase their singing and dancing not just to become famous.

I’m sad to see these bands disband but I love that some still are going strong like EXID, APINK . But this implies that nothing goes forever and eveything changes. Time flies so fast, its like yesterday I’m listening to my pink ipod and now I’m writing this blog post and stating how I became a fan and how many years had passed.

This part, I’m going to put the girl groups that I have adored throughout the years. (no particular order)

2ne1 - My queens. One of the group that made a great foundation on why 3rd Gen groups are more popular than them now KPOP is famous globally. 4eva my favorite. Songs: Fire, I am the Best, Clap your Hands, I Hate you, Ugly, Missing you, I Love you, Gotta be you. /I won’t be able to list all my favorite songs of the groups because all of them are good even the B-sides maybe in a separate post?/

Girls Generation - My queens. All of their songs are bop tbh there is no song that made a hole in their career. From high heels to sneakers. Songs: Gee, Genie, Oh!, Run Devil Run, The Boys, I Got a Boy (tbh just check their youtube account and listen to all of their music).

4Minute - My queens. I LOVE THEIR SONGS EVERY COMEBACK IS A BOP. This group led me to continue the KPOP fangirl because I love their songs tbh every songs that I listen to its just a masterpiece. Songs: Muzik, Heart to Heart,I My Me Mine, Volume Up, Mirror Mirror, What’s you Name?, Watcha doin Today?, Hate, Crazy.

Kara - I love this group SO MUCH I started stanning them in Pandora Era because their MVs are always on the TV. The first song that I was able to listen to is STEP and that’s when I started to look forward to their songs. I even like their Japanese Songs! I downloaded their Fantastic Girls Album. Songs: Step, Mister (or Mr.), Lupin, Pandora, Damaged Lady, Cupid

f(x) - The first song that made me a MeU is Electric Shock + Sulli being in a drama with Minho of SHINee. Then I also enjoyed their song Hot Summer. I love their songs because it doesn’t have a typical genre that a girl group would be having but f(x) is special because they have such creative songs even their B-sides are a bop! Songs: Electric Shock, Chocolate Love (tho its not their song... I still love their ver. compared to SNSD’s), Hot Summer, Red Light, 4 Walls, Nu ABO, Pinnochio (Danger), Red Light Album and Pink Tape Album.

Sistar - I loveeeeee Sistar sooo soooo much. I have listened to a lot of their songs (Loving U being my favorite), dancing to their songs (to Alone, Loving You, Touch my Body). I know a handful of their title tracks because I always adore it.) Songs: Alone, Loving U, I Swear, Shake It , GIve it to Me, So Cool.

Girl’s Day - The first song that I heard and actually liked is Expectation where they had this dance with suspenders. I like the dance of this song even tho its a too much for my age. Then I listened to their songs such as Female President, Something, Darling which I also memorized the choreo of these songs. My favorite is also Minah which I always feel like we have the same eyes because we both have eye smile. Songs: Twinkle Twinkle, Don’t Forget Me, White Day, Expect, Female President, Darling, Something, Ring My Bell.

APink - I liked every APink song, every comeback I waited for them. I have seen their eras from cute to feminine to mature. I’m so happy that they are still alive and still doing some songs. Some recent songs are I’m so Sick and %%. Songs: I don’t Know, Hush, My My, BuBiBu, No No No, Mr. Chu, LUV, Remember, I’m So Sick, %%
