Sorry for posting a little late this year, your mod’s been sick the past couple of weeks! ^^;
But, regardless, I am intending to go forward with AmeLiet Week 2023 next month!!
AmeLiet Week is a tumblr-based event to celebrate and generate fanwork for the hws America/hws Lithuania ship. Fanart, fanfics, cosplay, playlists, edits, and all types of fanwork are welcome, as are AUs like nyotalia and 2p!hetalia (for more details see our rules page).
This post is just a quick interest check to see how many people would be interested in participating this year. If you’d like to join in or you just want to help spread the word, please give this post a like or a reblog (there is no official registration, we’re just trying to gague numbers).
I’m also considering changing how prompts are done this year - in previous years, we would post 3 prompts and an AU for each day, but I wonder if participants would prefer to submit their own prompts and have a vote on them? Let me know what you think, the ask box is open if you want to go ahead and start suggesting ideas!
Tentative dates are April 16th-22nd!

This took so long, omg. It is SOOO hard drawing flowers aksjdkjsdf
I had this art (at least the lineart and some basic colors) from awhile ago, but I wasn’t totally happy with it, so I fixed a lot of it and re-colored some parts. And then I saw that one of today’s prompts for @amelietweek was ‘flowers’, so I added their countries’ national flowers to the piece. (Rose for A.merica, and Rue for L.ithuania).

Until Tomorrow
Tolys was leaving in two weeks. Alfred had known about this from the very beginning; after the school year concluded, Tolys would have to return to Lithuania. But now that it was here, Alfred couldn’t help but feel heartbroken.
He had gotten to know Tolys after they were partnered up in one of their shared classes. They had become fast friends shortly after that, but recently, Alfred had discovered he felt something more.
It had started after he and Tolys had watched a scary movie together, and Alfred couldn’t fall asleep. Tolys had been kind enough to stay over and even slept beside Alfred after Alfred woke up screaming from a nightmare. As he stared at Tolys’s sleeping face, it became abundantly clear that Alfred liked Tolys more than just a friend. That was four months ago.
He had two weeks left. Two weeks to come clean and finally tell Tolys how he felt. Every time he had attempted to confess in the past he would chicken out as soon as he met Tolys’s gentle gaze. Luckily their friend Kiku quickly caught onto Alfred’s feelings and failed attempts at confessions.
“Why not film it?” Kiku suggested during one of their annual Friday movie nights. “Maybe it will be less nerve-wracking that way.”
That seemed like a reasonable solution, and, if done right, it could be very romantic. So Alfred had agreed and began compiling all the images and videos he had taken with Tolys over the course of the year, and with the help of Kiku, he compiled it into a video with a confession at the very end. Now all he had to do was send it. That proved to be the most challenging part of it all.
“You shouldn’t leave it until the last minute,” Kiku advised.
“I know…I know, but whenever I go to press send I just…I freeze up.”
“Hand it over,” Savino snapped.
“What?”
The Italian rolled his eyes before snatching Alfred’s phone. “If you can’t hit send then I will.”
“Vinny!” Alfred tried to take his phone back, but Savino was persistent and sharply turned away.
“Done,” Savino said with a smirk as he handed Alfred his phone back.
“Vinny,” Alfred whined again. At least it was now done, and all Alfred had to do was wait for Tolys’s reply.
He wouldn’t hear from Tolys until later that evening, leaving Alfred to worry all afternoon. He jumped at every ding of a phone, and he was constantly checking and refreshing his messages with Tolys. Finally, just before dinner, his phone dinged.
Tolys: I’m coming over.
Alfred’s heart pounded in his chest as he read the message over and over. That gave him half an hour to get ready and maybe even get Tolys some flowers. With a plan in mind, Alfred grabbed his keys and headed out.
—
Alfred was late getting home. When he arrived at his apartment, Tolys was standing outside the door. “You could have gone in, you know,” Alfred noted, feeling guilty for making him wait, “That’s why I gave you a spare key.”
Tolys shrugged. “I don’t know. I always felt weird just letting myself in.”
“Well, I’m here now. Would you like to come in?”
“Yes.”
Alfred unlocked the door and let Tolys inside. The Lithuanian stood awkwardly in the middle of the small living room, fidgeting with the sleeve of his sweater. Alfred hated seeing him so nervous.
“Th-These are for you,” Alfred stuttered out, handing over a bouquet of pale pink peonies.
Tolys flushed a deep shade of red but was happy to accept the flowers. “They’re beautiful Al, thank you.”
The two lapsed into an awkward silence. Tolys caressed the petals of the flowers, trying to focus on anything but Alfred while Alfred turned towards the window as if something outside would give him an answer as to what to say next.
“So…” Alfred eventually said.
“So…”
“I really like you. B-But I don’t want this to change anything if you don’t want to. M-Maybe I should have said that before giving you the flowers. N-Not that I wouldn’t have given you–” Tolys lifted a finger to Alfred’s lip.
“It’s okay,” Tolys said with a shy smile, “I-I was actually really happy when I got the video.”
“Really?”
“Yes really.”
“Thank God.” Finally finding his confidence, Alfred pulled Tolys into a tight hug, lifting him off the ground. Tolys laughed lightly, returning the hug with just as much force.
“Now what?” Alfred asked as he returned Tolys to the ground once more.
“Well, we have a little time before I head home, so I suppose we go on a date and see where that leads.”
In the back of Alfred’s mind, he wondered what would happen when Tolys went home. He hadn’t thought that far ahead, having been too occupied with the actual confession. Surely a long-distance relationship would come with many struggles, and it was something they would have to discuss before he left. But when Tolys extended his hand and suggested they get dinner and a movie, Alfred figured those questions could wait until tomorrow.

Day 3 - Baking
@amelietweek
America’s kitchen was filled with the scent of cookie dough.  The counters dusted with flour, and the sinks were filled with used dishes and empty egg shells.
“Alfred! Stop eating the cookie dough!” Lithuania said, taking the bowl away from his boyfriend.  America pouted.  “You’ll get sick.”
“Dude, we’re nations,” America pointed out, reaching for the bowl.  “I don’t think we can get sick from a few raw eggs.”
“I’m not sure we should test that theory,” Lithuania said, keeping his grip on the bowl, trying not to give into America’s puppy dog eyes now matter how adorable he was.  “And if you eat all the dough, we won’t have any left for the cookies.”
“Tolys, why don’t you try some?” America suggested.
“What?” Lithuania asked.
“It’s really good, I swear.  Just a little, we’ll use the rest for the cookies, I promise.  I’ve done this like a million times before and I’ve never gotten sick,” America said.
Lithuania looked at the raw dough--spotted with chocolate chips--doubtfully.  While he doubted his stomach could handle it, America had said he’d never gotten sick.  Maybe their kind couldn’t get sick from a little raw cookie dough.  And it did smell good, he had to admit.
“It’s fine if you don’t want to,” America went on.  “But--”
“No,” Lithuania said, taking even himself by surprise.  “I’ll try it.”
“You will?” America said, his face lighting up.
Lithuania reached into the bowl and took out a small chunk of cookie dough, and plopped it into his mouth.
As he savored the taste, he realized America was right; it was good.
“So?” America asked once Lithuania had finished.  “How was it?”
“I liked it,” Lithuania said.
“See? I told you!” America said. “Now, we should probably get the dough onto the cookie sheets.”
An hour later, they had a batch of chocolate chip cookies that admittedly only lasted a few days, but on the bright side, neither of them wound up getting sick.

Blue (AmeLiet)
[Read on Ao3.]
Just a short 500-word drabble written for @amelietweek‘s Day Four prompts, “flower” and “precious.”
He was always protective of the blue flowers.
Lithuania made it a point to remember this. It was a nice gesture, to fill a vase with flowers to decorate the table in the morning before setting the table for breakfast. But after having arranged the blue flowers, he saw how America's expression quickly changed when he came down the stairs to greet him. He hadn't yelled or reprimanded him for it, but there was this look in his eyes that seemed cold and so unlike him.
It was a quiet, but terse request: "Don't pick these flowers ever again." Lithuania hadn't known anything about them, and he removed them from the table. The subject quickly changed from there, and all had been so easily forgiven.
Then one afternoon, Lithuania had come up to take him his coffee when he heard a strange sound coming from the study. When he peered in he saw America sitting at his desk, the dust hanging in the air above him in the bronze-gold late afternoon haze of the sun through the window. His shoulders shuddered ever so slightly as he sat there, his eyes buried in his hand, a grimace on his lip. A book lay open on his desk - faded blue flowers pressed into the pages.
At once, America jumped to attention at the creek of the door. When Lithuania placed the serving tray down, he noticed the tell-tale signs: the quick swipe of his thumb on his nose; the redness around his eyes, a mottled blush stretched across the apples of his cheeks. There was an ache that lept up in Lithuania's chest at the sight, only made heavier when he was met with the usual laugh, joke, and thanks for his service.
He hesitated at first, but Lithuania committed himself and wrapped his arms around his shoulders. He felt America tense in surprise, then relax. He hadn't quite thought of what to say, or how to comfort him, but as his mind raced he slowly felt his embrace returned. At first it was just a light touch, but slowly he felt America bring his face to his shoulder. It wasn't until Lithuania tentatively combed the back of his head with his fingertips that he allowed himself to cry.
Lithuania came to understand it that day, how precious those flowers were to him. They had been something he had searched for for a very long time - ephemeral flowers, which only bloomed for a short time. They had been meant as a gift for a friend... it had been the first time he learned how cruel and precious life really was.
They went into the garden together the next day. As Lithuania finished pulling the weeds, he watched as America carefully watered the blue flower bushes. When their eyes met, there was something smiling in them as he called him over. Lithuania remembered thinking of those eyes - impossibly blue, impossibly strong, impossibly precious - as he pulled him closely into his arms once more.

Prompt Submissions Open
Tumblr media
Hello all, we’re going to try something a little different this year!
Rather than just have the mod decide the prompts, we’re asking our participants and followers to suggest their own prompts instead. That way it feels like more of a community event!
If you have any ideas or suggestions for AmeLiet Week, be it AUs, song lyrics, one-word prompts, or just “hey I think this would be fun!” you can send them into the ask box or leave them in a comment on this post. Starting next week (9th April), you can vote on all the submitted prompts, and the top seven will be selected for the event.
See you all again soon for voting!
