Ahsoka’s ‘he was a good master’ in the latest episode was heartbreaking.
To me, it sounded as if she was trying to convince herself of it.
Especially in the context of that earlier episode. Getting to see (in live-action) the reality of a child being trained by slightly older child.
(he was nineteen!! she was fourteen!!)
Ahsoka was not ready. Anakin was not ready.
He was trying his best. But it was war and he had to raise her on a fucking battlefield.
He was a good master, she tries to convince herself. But he was training me to be a weapon instead of a warrior.
(my part of that legacy is one of death and war)
Imagine how conflicted Ahsoka’s memory of Anakin must be as well by now.
Idolising him as a child, breaking with the jedi but still holding his memory&legacy in such high esteem for years (whilst also growing more and more disillusioned with your childhood) and then discovering he’s Darth Vader.
Living with that horror for years, trying to come to terms with it as you witness his destruction. Knowing that’s your Skyguy.
And finally seeing him once again, in the world between worlds. Yourself stuck between life and death; childhood and adulthood. Seeing him as you saw him, and again as everyone else had to.
Knowing that’s the boy that tried so hard for you, kept you alive, and yet also having to reconcile that knowledge with the truth.
He was a good master, she tries to convince herself. To convince others. But he was not, in the end, a good man.
(you are more, Anakin; but more powerful and dangerous than anyone realised.)

episode 5 of ahsoka has altered my brain chemistry and fundamentally changed me. I’m stunned and amazed. the intention and detail behind every shot and line was incredible. anakin and ahsoka’s reunion lived up to my expectations, I was shaking the whole time they were on screen together.
my singular complaint would be that I wanted more time with anakin. but really I know that no amount of time with him will ever be enough. we could have countless anakin and ahsoka interactions and it will still never be enough.

would i be me if i didn't lose my mind over name dynamics. because do you know what this older, post-vader anakin calling ahsoka snips did to me as a person.
he hasn't done that since she was expelled from the jedi order. since everything changed for them.
and here, three decades later, walking a line between life and death, he greets her with a face she'll know immediately and a name he gave her on the first day they met. nobody speak to me for at least three days.

As someone who was made fun of when I was younger for being such a fan of Anakin Skywalker (it was still very cool to hate the prequels and dunk on Hayden at the time), it brings me so much joy to see so much of the internet also losing their minds over “Hello Snips.”
I squeed and did kickyfeets so hard I was bouncing in my armchair 💖

That was the first episode of Ahsoka I've been disappointed in. The ending was really cool, and I always love to see the purrgil, but I felt like Anakin's return was completely wasted. They brought him back to...do a lightsaber fight? With Ahsoka?? And the only lesson he had to teach her, after coming back from the Dark Side and dying a hero, was...to fight, and to live???? Really??? Nothing more deep than that to impart, Skyguy? :/
I generally love this new era of Star Wars and I'm still pretty optimistic about Ahsoka, but I'm worried the writers are forgetting one of the key themes of Star Wars: you win not by fighting, but by facing the shadow and meeting it without fighting. That's what Yoda taught Luke. That's how Luke defeated the Emperor. That's how Anakin himself came back to the light. Not by fighting. By laying down the weapons he had armed himself with—his anger and despair—and finding hope instead.
Also, we know psychometry is a rare gift among the Jedi, and now Ahsoka can suddenly do it without any indication that she ever could in the past...that just felt like lazy writing. She could have got that information any number of better ways: finding where Sabine went from the purrgil, then learning of Sabine's choice from Baylan when they caught up, just to name one. Or, if they absolutely wanted to go with psychometry, why not give Jacen something to actually do and just say he has that ability?
I don't know. I can probably overlook these flaws if the rest of the episodes don't commit similar lore-breaking and thematically-blind missteps, but I expected a little better, especially given how amazing this show has been up till now.
