A Young Elaine Could Have Saved the Tamlin Redemption Arc :

Imagine if Elaine was younger than Feyre, 9 or 10 years old, only a kid. One who picked up a firewood log when the Beast came to take her sister and tried to strike the monster even as she shook.

Imagine a forbidden room in the Spring Court. Tamlin retreats to it twice, once after Calanmai, the other after Rhys comes with a warning and leaves with a name. It’s heavily muffled, but Feyre can hear his roaring through the night. Lucien won’t address it.

Imagine Under the Mountain, Rhys fixing faux wings of black and silver to Feyre’s back, painted like the tattoo. The Night Lord paying closer attention to Tamlin on these nights. Spring still doesn’t look, but his jaw is tighter and his eyes stare more firmly ahead.

Imagine Elaine adoring Cassian after he gives his oath to protect them, like a knight would. Nesta is as cold as usual, but Elaine looks at his dark wings and sharp steel, and sees the prince and the dragon all at once, both have sense of humor the kid can’t get enough of.

Imagine Elaine being dragged to the Cauldron, and an Illyrian warrior standing to fulfill his oath under the weight of blood and magic. Only able to rise because an unexpected High Lord, instead of fighting it, took the spells greater chains upon himself.

Imagine Elaine panicking in the grip of the king, kicking and screaming for her sisters. As the Beast that broke down their front door convulses on the ground in unwilling transformation. As Cassian makes it to the Cauldron’s edge, reaching for her. As Hybern steps between them, and just before pushing Elaine into the dark water, tears off his wings. There is a terrible roar as she goes under with them into the void.

Imagine Feyre returning to the chamber while she spies on the Spring Court. But in her absence the gargoyle has been crushed to dust. The thorns are bleeding. The fire is cold. And though she scours the manor, the wings are nowhere to be found.

Imagine Elaine horrified by her new wings, worried sick over Feyre. Guilty and ashamed around Cassian. Cassian the same for not being able to protect her, mourning the loss of the wind. Both of them spiraling. Until Azriel insists she learn to fly, that he and Cassian are going to help her.

Imagine Elaine’s sight coming to her in unexplained bursts and deep dreams. She falls again from the air, into Azriel’s arms and for a moment she remembers him catching her long ago. Him much younger, far away in a camp to the north. She throws a punch at Cassians hand and is caught again by old heartache. The memories of the Illyrians bleeding into her.

Imagine her walking through the halls in her sleep, following the ghosts of a memory. To the ledge of the House of Wind, stepping off into the ether, down in a straight plummet. Rhysand catching her, ruffled from sleep and a sudden winnow. Half caught in the dream himself, wings flapping and breathing heavy.

Imagine their first conversation alone, on the mountain top under the sky. They are family now and know barely anything about eachother. He comforts her and apologizes profusely, knowing the burden of such gifts and that it was him tethering her to another little girl she so reminds him of. She hugs him around the middle, they talk of Iris and their mothers. Of remembering love. She moves into the townhouse the next day.

Imagine the sisters attending the meeting of the High Lords. Nesta is barbed and the friction between Tamlin and the Inner Circle is palpable when he arrives. But when he looks at her, Elaine sees only remorse. When she tries to help him from the ground after Feyre’s beat down, he does not take her hand. She makes the mistake of placing it on his back, catching them both in an old nightmare. Rhysand wrenches them apart, the room has gone a starless dark and the Night Lord looks about an inch away from murder before he spirits Elaine out of the room. That night Nesta sleeps in Elaine’s bed, and Feyre holds Rhysand as he cries his soul out upon her.

Imagine it being the kick the Inner Circle needed to truly separate the two little sisters in their minds. The visions of Iris fade, and Elaine feels more whole than she ever has since the Cauldron.

Imagine when Elaine is kidnapped, hell has already reached their doorstep. Cassian is going mad, torn between oaths to keep, but he and Rhysand can’t leave the army on the eve of battle. Not while the commander is still fighting for the respect of his aerial legions. Not so soon after Hybern. Feyre is set on going, suicide mission though it is, Mor readying with her High Lady. Nesta about to march off to Hybern’s camp herself when Amren reminds them all there is only one amongst them with a shot of reaching Elaine undetected. Azriel is already kneeling, and for the sake of Prythian and the life of their sister, they accept the vow of a second Illyrian warrior. He will come back with Elaine or not at all.

Imagine Tamlin finding her in the camp, and, speaking to her for the first time, begs her forgiveness. He is still caught halfway between the past and the present. He tells her that her suffering was never his plan. Nor her sister’s, and if he could go back and fix it he would. He tells her he put the wings on a funeral pyre. And Elaine looks at the man her sister loved and remembers his agony. She looks at Spring like a gentle grower, and though it is outside of her power to absolve him, for his sins against her, she forgives him. And it shatters the Beast.

Imagine when Azriel finally finds her Tamlin is there. The shadowsinger draws his weapons, shadows lashing, but Tamlin just steps to the side. There is a certain wisdom in Elaine’s eyes when she and the Spring Lord share a look. Tamlin’s eyes look raw and newly broken, but in a way that may help the bones set right this time. He walks out, and raises no alarms. They are running out of time, but Elaine refuses leave without the captive girl, though Azriel can only carry one of them.

Imagine hounds on her heels and rocks on her bare feet as she sprints for the cliff. The roar of a Beast she once hit with a firewood log. The pounding in her ears of blood and wind. Of wings, as Azriel screams for her just past the drop off.

Imagine a monster with the soul of a man coming to save a little girl for the sake of lost love and friendship, on the word of an unspoken oath. A High Lord’s final stand. Holding the line before the dawnbreak. The Last Breath of Spring rising beneath Illyrian wings.

Ron and I are officially in our new place, it is truly amazing living here! It’s peaceful and quiet. The only sounds we do hear once in a while are the planes that fly out of Davis Monthan, coyotes, screech owls and the train. We live about 2 blocks east of the Davis Monthan base, which for me is totally awesome!! I love it so much living here!! No more police, fire, ambulance sirens. No more swat teams running around. No more hearing the traffic from the road or businesses behind that old place we were in. No more hearing dogs fighting in the dog park. No more seeing people walk behind the building and peeking in my windows, making my girls bark. No more people running over my head day in and day out. No more smelling marijuana or cigarette smoke. It’s so peaceful, calm, drama free and less stressful here.

We are in a two bedroom, two bath townhouse with a fenced in backyard. It has a carport within the fenced yard so when we are going out or coming home we need to hope the gate, I feel much safer. It is truly awesome! This house is amazing for us to be living in, we are all so happy, all meaning Ron, myself, Chloe, Kona and Moca, yes even Moca our cat loves it here!! In fact, Moca was out and running around the first day we moved in, which is not normal for her, normally she hides for at least a month.

The backyard is facing east so we get the morning sun, the front door is facing west so in our living room we get to watch the sunset. In the early mornings, before the sun is up and before I go to work, I bring the girls out into the fenced backyard. When we go out in the early morning before the sun rises, we see the stars, I mean really see the stars in the sky. It’s such a beautiful sight to see and it makes me even happier to be here. The last time I saw the stars in the night sky looking this beautiful was when I worked at the Tanque Verde Ranch, where the night sky was never affected by lights. In the Arizona room that faces east, we have a beautiful old high bistro table from an old hotel out here that a friend of ours sold to us, it has a slate top with wrought iron base. I have two chairs which will need to be replaced for higher ones, that way I can sit out there with my coffee and laptop to write. This just makes this house even more amazing for us to live in. This is how a home should be.

I will have all kinds of bird feeders outside, along with my garden, this is so exciting for us to have and a dream come true. We did order landscape rock for the dirt areas of the backyard, that arrives Monday, this is so exciting for us, our landlord/landlady are so awesome they are letting us just have fun with this place. in fact, they are impressed with what we have done already.

It’s a really nice quiet community that we are in, I can say we have a neighbor who has a fountain of some kind running, it’s so nice to go out into our yard, hearing it bubbling, I will be getting our yard one as I always wanted one even when we lived in an apartment. We have seen this really pretty red bird called a vermillion flycatcher in our front yard in a tree and I heard woodpeckers in our trees out front. The first day we moved in we had 5 ravens in the eucalyptus tree outside the living room window. I put my bird feeder in the backyard on a hook, however, it is getting moved to the front of the house, right outside my office window. I am hoping to see some pretty birds at it. The hummingbirds found my hummingbird feeder in the backyard, Ron said there were all different colored hummingbirds at it the other day, I have one more feeder to put for them too.

I do have to remind myself that we are in a house instead of an apartment as I keep tiptoeing around, speaking in a low volume when I can just talk in my normal voice, laugh out loud and enjoy my life here. It’s nice being able to go to bed and not hear loud neighbors who sound like elephants above you all hours of the day and night. It’s nice to get up and not worry about people peeking into your apartment. It is nice to go to work and not worry about the noise from outside or above my head or the girls barking at people getting to close to the windows when I am working.

The house is bigger than the apartment. I was making hot tea for Ron and myself, every night we have Sleepytime tea to help us fall asleep better. So I asked Ron if he wanted some sleepytime tea before bed to help him sleep, he was in the bedroom, I was in the kitchen, he never answered me, well he didn’t hear me, our home is that big!!! I walked to the bedroom and laughed at how big the house is compared to what we had. I said, “This place is huge compared to the apartment!!” He laughed and agreed with me. I have to say it again, we love where we are.

This past week we have been getting lots of rain as well as cold weather here for us, I am honestly tired of the rain now, I feel waterlogged. It was really neat to hear the rain on the skylight and roof though when we were in the house. We both slept so well hearing the rain on the roof, it was comforting. On Sunday we had crazy downpours, Monday was sprinkling, Tuesday was a crazy cold rain, Wednesday through Friday was sunny and cold. I am ready for the heat now. I miss the heat now. I won’t complain when summer gets here that is for sure. I don’t have enough winter clothes for this, I own mostly t-shirts, jeans, and lighter clothes.

The funniest thing that has happened is when I go to leave our kitchen, I always try to turn off the kitchen light, mind you, it is not the electric light that needs to be turned off, it’s our skylight in the kitchen. It’s so bright you think it’s the light that needs to be turned off. It makes us both laugh. Also in the kitchen, we have a window that looks out into the Arizona room.

Now that we are moved in, most everything is unpacked, we have stuff on our walls, I have a chance to see what is needed to make this more of a home for us. I have so many ideas and am more excited to be living here. I have a wish list made up on Amazon, Kirkland’s and a few other websites. We are having a house warming party on March 3rd, I posted that on Facebook so if anyone who is not in Tucson can send gifts or gift cards if they want to do so.

For our kitchen I need to get new pots & pans, the Red Copper set we bought last year sucks!! It’s already fallen apart and everything sticks in it, I am going back to T-Fal as I never had issues with my sets in the past. I need to get new bright colored utensils. I want a new knife set as well, ours is 12 years old. I bought some new flatware by Oneida at Ross and need to find another set similar to it. I will get a new plate set as well and new glasses. So basically, I want to upgrade our kitchen stuff as we upgraded our life, we deserve to have better things and get rid of the old stuff that no longer fits us. Our awesome landlord/landlady gave us permission to paint the kitchen cabinets so I am thinking a nice peach or sunshine yellow color just on the outer part like doors and drawer faces, the rest would be white would really make the kitchen pop. We already started with putting some handles on the doors of the cabinets and on the drawers. What makes things even better is that we have a full refrigerator.

The dining room already has a ceiling fan with lights. We also hung up the painting we had in the other place up, so I am going to play off of that for the decor of the dining room. I want to get a nice hutch for in there as well.

In our living room, we have our sectional, our coffee tables with accent tables, the altar I made myself, a little makeshift media center from a bookcase I bought and an old wooden office chair. I would like to get a new entertainment center for the living room, maybe a surround sound system, maybe a bigger TV now. I do need to get area rugs as the living room floor is tile, we need at least two rugs I think due to the large living room. I plan on getting some houseplants that hang from the ceiling as well, there is much light in the living room that they would be amazing here. I want to get a few shelves for the walls and beautiful wall art for the walls. I want to keep with the country style that I have always loved and adored in my home. I thought southwest but everyone does that here, I need to be different and stand out.

My office does need to have some shelves on the walls. I need to get a nice area rug or desk mat preferably bamboo. I also want some motivational, inspiration, fun wall art so that is where I am eight hours out of the day. I would like to get a little wireless speaker for my office too, the total silence in there kills me, I can play the music quietly and I don’t listen to offensive music at all. I want my office to have some nice plants. My intention is to make it natural looking, fresh looking and yet maintain an air of professionalism in there. It will help me get focused again on my career and my goals.

I have decided to keep my bedroom with the country style bedroom that I have always loved having, at first I thought I would go with bohemian, that just doesn’t fit me or my style. I am more a country style person or shabby chic than Bohemian. The closet is a mirrored doored closet with so many shelves and built-in drawers, so no need for a dresser here. I am going to be buying those really cool floating shelves for the walls and a nice painting for above our bed as well. I want at least one more hanging plant in there as well. It helps with the air and oxygen in the room. We also need to get an area rug or two small rugs for both sides of the bed as it’s a cement floor. I will also get Kona a bed as she is officially out of the kennel.

We have two bathrooms, one that is off our bedroom with a stand-up shower and the other bathroom is located near the living room, as you go down the hallway with a bathtub and of course, both have sinks and toilets. Those will both be a country garden setting, complete with candles and plants of some sort in there. I do need to get bathmats for the “guest” bathroom as well as better towels for both bathrooms.

Please excuse the messy looking photos, this is only our first week and I am yet to get it all in order, what with working I use the time I am not working to get my home in order. It will get there and I will have this place looking even more amazing than it already is.

This house has so much potential and it’s ours to have fun with.

This is our home finally and we are so much happier being here.

We have lots to do here, I am feeling so inspired to really have fun with my creativity here. I know I can really make this a wonderful home for us. I feel that anyone who comes to visit will love it here too.

I am feeling very inspired living here, so much as that I feel I will have time to write.

Here is to a much better life, an amazing year filled with great new potential and opportunities and our amazing home.

Fterotós

Chapter 1

I knew I wasn’t supposed to be in the shed but my curiosity had gotten the best of me. I walked up to the rotting wood doors and wrenched them open. Instantly I was hit in the face by a cloud of dust. I let out a loud cough and swiped at the air. I took a look in and gasped, it was beautiful.

Natural light streamed through the stained windows, illuminating the glass bottles on the neatly organized shelves. Slowly I walked in. Everything was in perfect condition, just dusty. It made sense, no one had been in the workshed since dad died.

My dad used to be a woodworker, until he was involved in a shop fire at his work. I was three years old. I don’t remember much about him, so I live with him through stories.

My mother used to tell these hilarious stories about his work and life. One time he had spent all night on a little carving he wanted to give to my mom on her anniversary. She begged him to get to bed but he wouldn’t tell her why he was staying up. She eventually snuck into the workshop and got a glimpse at the most amazing present she had ever seen, a carving of him and her at their wedding.

Now it sits on a shelf above my mothers bed, and I can totally agree, its beautiful.

I stand here in his workshed and I see how beautiful this place is. I walked in a circle, examining the mason jars full of tools and the decorations in the room. Slowly I sat on his bench, and I felt a wave of grief. I stood up and dusted off the bench.

“I miss you dad...”

I turned to look at some of his carvings. One caught my eye, it was a crow perched on a wolf’s back. The crows wings were very detailed and the wolf was beautifully shaped. I picked it up and spun it around. It was about the size of my palm.

“Fterotós! Dinner!” My mom called from the open kitchen window.

Quickly I pocketed the little carving and yelled “Coming mom!”.

I shut the shed door and jogged back to the house.

Me and my mother lived in a small, blue, one-story house. Our backyard was large and my mother had a bountiful vegetable garden. I liked picking tomatoes and snacking on them during the day.

We lived in a small town called Cedar with a elementary and high school, but I had been homeschooled since I was four.

I walked in the door and sat the table.

“Hey, wash up.”

“Oh yeah!” I got up and washed my hands at the sink. We were having my favorite, Chicken and Cheese Pasta; a family recipe.

She was at the stove, flipping chicken onto plates. My mother was the sweetest person I knew. She had very black hair and bright green eyes, just like me; except my hair was short and really curly.

I piled my food onto a plate and sat down. It smelled absolutely delicious.

“So bud, how you ready for school?” My mom asked me.

“Im a little nervous but excited...”

“Being nervous just means you care, its a good thing. Im sure you’ll do great.”

“I just... no one but you has ever seen...”

“I know.”

Now I want you to think about something, imagine you have giant birds wings. They might be fluffy or slick, long or short, light or dark, just imagine. Now imagine never knowing anyone else with these wings, except for the rare exception of less than 0.01 of the population. /Now/ imagine having to lug those things around everywhere you go, not being able to hide these giant, heavy backpacks of feathers.

Yeah, well thats me; and don’t even get me started on baths.

See, I was born with wings. It’s a very rare, recessive trait that only less than 0.01 percent of the population of the world have.

My wings allow me to fly at least, because my wings are jet black crows wings. Other people, like Jeane Collins or Marcus Lane have different wings. Jeane Collins was the first person to ever have hummingbird wings, and they are beautiful. Marcus Lane has giant eagle wings and he can do amazing flying.

But I don’t think wings are terrible. I can literally go anywhere, just at the cost of my breath.

Plus, I had to teach myself to use these things. Just guess how many times I fell out of trees and into lakes... too many.

This is why I was homeschooled. My mom wanted me to go to a public school but I refused, I didn’t want to be known because of my wings unlike other celebrities. The only times I went flying was when I was in the woods or it was nighttime.

Tomorrow I’m starting high school, and I’m fearing for my life.

Im pretty quiet and shy, and these wings are gonna draw ALL the attention to me... great.

We’ve talked to the principal and all the teachers and they’ve made accommodations for me, now I feel like a bother.

I decided I needed to go for a fly to relieve the stress.

I quickly ate my food and washed my plate.

“Hey mom, I’m gonna go out, ok?”

“Thats fine, be back by eight. You’re gonna need a shower and a goodnight sleep.”

“Sure thing!” I said, walking out the door.

I walked across the yard and bent knees. I spread my wings and... flew.

I flew over trees and creeks. I rose up to the clouds and let go, plummeting towards the earth. I released my wings just in time to glide over the river and to the farm fields.

I slowed down and landed in a wheat field in the center of a large clearing. I spotted a nearby barn and flapped my wings so I could get on top.

I placed my feet down onto the tin, which made a soft “ting” sound, alerting the birds on the gablets. Although they were surprised they didn’t fly.

Birds weren’t really bothered by me unless I bothered them, so I’d just ignore them and be on my way.

I sat down and look towards the west. The sun was setting over the trees. The field glowed with its light.

I relaxed onto the roof. That’s when I noticed something... large moving at the edge of the clearing.

I sat up and tried to make out the figure. It wasn’t human, it looked more like a bear... no a dog. A wolf! It was a wolf? Whats a wolf doing in Cedar?

I stared closer and it looked at me. I jumped up and began to panic. Was it going to hurt me?!

It looked at me with its eyes... its bright, amber eyes. Than it turned and bounded back into the woods.

I stood there, on the roof of this barn, frozen for what felt like forever. I still couldn’t comprehend what I had just saw.

I turned towards the town and took off, flying back home.
