The Wrong Way to Use Healing Magic
I didn't go into this expecting much, because you can almost never tell if an isekai is going to be good or not (and all the subjectivity that comes with the term 'good'.)
This looks like it's gonna be hella fun.
Tumblr media
Overall Score so far: 7.5/10
Tumblr media
The summoning to another world as "Heros" to defeat the "Demon King" is your standard isekai plot. It's not original, but it's a good basis for a story, if that's not all there is to the premise. I'm looking forward to how this will get it's own unique twist.
The initial vibes I was getting from it were a mix of
a bad reminiscence of the beginning of "Rise of the Shield Hero" where I was worried that healing magic would be considered a bad or weak ability, and our main character Usato would be looked down on. AND
The great impression of "Wow, I want the Student President Inumaki and Vice President Kazuki to become a poly ship with Usato." I'm just gonna head cannon that the whole way though, thank you very much, they have great vibes together!
I'm thankful the first didn't come to pass, and that the second is going to be the basis for fanfic I look for in the future lol. But also, I hope the Demon King is fun, and that the fox girl doesn't bring any Loli vibes into this.
The green-haired Rose, a healing magic user who is going to train our intrepid healing hero, is the only Voice Actor that popped out at me. Which makes sense, as going through the other voices, it's a lot of small time or up and coming VAs! They're all doing a fantastic job though.
But Rose.
Tumblr media
For a second I thought it was the Headmaster from Season 2 of Ancient Magus Bride, as she have a similar low and husky voice. But no, we have Tanaka, Atsuko - The voice of Motoko Kusanagi from Ghost in the Shell, and where I recognized her from, Hanami from Jujutsu Kaisen!!! She has a very long record of supporting roles in so many anime, and I really like her voice, so I'm glad I get to listen to it here~
Episode 1 Spoilers Below!
Youve got your standard typical kid who is So Normal, and you have the Amazing and Loved By Everyone Student Body Council members, who everyone thinks are dating, and are just So Pretty and Smart and Good At All The Things.
I love how they are both interested in Usato for treating them like normal people, because as we find out, they are just typical high school students. And while they are not actually dating, just spend a lot of time together, I could absolutely peg these two as swingers looking for a third member, and that's all just delusions on my part hahahaha.
Inumaki-sempai, the Student President, is a secret Chu-Ni-Byo, or one of those edgelord kids doing the naruto run and unironically thinks they have special powers to move things with their eyes. It's a phase everyone goes through, even if they won't admit it. But she is SO HYPE to be in an isekai, and I'm right there with her. I would totally react the same way.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And of course, to feed her Chunibyo tendancies, which are immediately spotted by Usato whose image of her is shattered (good, please see her as human), she's gained the power of Lightning Magic. All she needs now is an eye patch and some bandages on her hand, along with manical laughter.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Kazuki, her second in command, seems like a typical Popular Guy, but I love that when he's getting heated over their nonconsensual summoning (despite Inumaki getting hyped in the backgroun), Usato stepping in to calm him down and point out that there is no use getting worked up, is such a good base jumping point for where things will go from here. He's not a particularly interesting character yet, but he's a good guy who wants to protect those around him. It makes sense that he gets Light Magic.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I love that Kazuki has NO IDEA what an Isekai is, and is like - "Light magic... I can blind people I guess???" Has he never even played Dragon Quest? lmao
Usato of course, gets something different, and everyone flips out. He then stops being able to read the room and puts himself in his own situation by mentioning as such in front of Rose, despite the king and magic nun trying to dissuade her from finding out. He's a Super Duper Rare Healing Magic user, because of course he is. He's Protag-kun. But it's fun to see the "tag along" who DIDN'T HEAR THE HERO BELLS WHEN SUMMONED get such a unique skill.
Tumblr media
Bless this sweetheart. I hope they can become an awesome trio.
I can't wait to watch episode 2, and see if we get some actual twisted ways to use healing magic to fight.
My hopes for how Healing Magic can be used "incorrectly"
up someone's internal organs with a punch
be able to manipulate their blood or body water content to kill, OR
just toughen this kid up into a fighter who can heal all the damage he takes and turn him into a tank rather than just a support. ZOMBIE FIGHTING STYLE
Either way, I'm gonna enjoy this one!!

I have Not been doing what I should have been doing this week, which is Not Great. BUT. I have been feeling the urge to watch BL again, so I been flittering around streaming services and binging some and dropping others. Here's the list of the 18, in the order I watched them, with brief thoughts on each. My rating (out of 10) are in [blue]. Feel free to ask me to say more about any of them!
Pit Babe (2 eps) [7]
Fun, enjoyed the tropiness of it, intrigued by Jeff/Alan, whatever secrets Charlie and Jeff are keeping, and that drifting competition which was hella sexy. I like my omegaverse fics "non traditional" so i appreciated that the first BL out there was alpha/alpha. I wasn't engaged enough to keep going, but would like eventually to pick it up again. One of the few shows I'm not filtering the tag for, so I'm enjoying other people's reactions and gifs.
My Personal Weatherman (finished) [8]
I wanted to love it more than I did, many aspects were wonderful, but the leads never felt like real characters to me, just seme/uke tropes fulfilling their roles. Actors very pretty though. I have a bunch of notes I may finish and post eventually.
Laws of Attraction (finished) [9]
10% of it was terrible, 10% was completely nonsensical (instagram live-ing your date while on the lam? really??), 10% was mediocre, 50% was good, and 20% was sublime. Film was phenomenal as the complicated lawyer with his thousands of smiles, and I now have a crush on him. I started watching a het lakorn for him afterwards (Lucky Star, free on Viki, very soap opera, he and his costar are great). I loved grandma and the batshit ex. I've already forgotten parts of the plot. Wish it could have been higher heat, the restrictions kinda fucked with Charn and Tinn's chemistry in the second half, after they got together, but Film made it work with his coy blushing maiden routine. And their chemistry pre-dating was fire. Second leads were cute and I do love me a pining bodyguard, but sadly the actors were kinda eh.
I Became the Main Role of a BL (1 ep) [9]
I am very excited about this, doing so many things well, balancing slapstick and humanity, all the little details are great. I like how the "real world" is still tropey and absurd but also noticibku more grounded than the "drama" world. I'm invested in the managers' stories. I have hopes for its sexiness, given how Aoyagi was touching Akufuji's arm in their rehearsal. Love love love Akufuji stanning.
Double Mints (finished) [5]
um. I didn't hate it. I didn't like it exactly, but there were some poignant moments. My first actually dark BL (I know Pornographer is classified as dark, but it didn't feel that way to me). Possibly there's some profundity in it, but it didn't grab me enough that I want to spend the time thinking about it. Also many plot things that didn't make sense to me. Perhaps just translation issues? Unlike the next on my list, this wasn't porn, it was a violent yakuza story. Not actually very explicit given that it's supposed to be high heat, with the significant exception of a rape scene.
The Shortest Distance is Round (Noir) (finished) [5]
I mean this is literally softcore porn with a weird dark plot around it. I think most of the actors are actual porn actors; I know the lead is. I could have thoughts on the story, but I feel like I'd need to know more about Japanese cinema to say anything meaningful. Just saying, the sexual harassment at the beginning is the tamest bit. Also a hilarious misdirect with the dead fish sleep kiss (at least for me who was going in blind). Some of the sex was hilarious (goat boy!) some of it was creepy and rapey, and some was genuinely hot.
Mr. Unlucky Has No Choice But to Kiss (3.5 eps) [7.5]
Fun and fluffy, like the premise, the seme character has charm, but soon lost interest in that level of slapstick and tropiness. May eventually finish.
Love Stage Japan 2018 (half an ep or so) [6]
Liked it more than the Thai version, which I saw a few episodes of. The set up makes more sense. Soon lost interest in that slapstick style. Wouldn't avoid it, but no current urge to return.
Utsukushii Kare 2 (My Beautiful Man 2) (finished) [9]
I love them so much! As the middle section, it didn't work as well on its own as season one (a hothouse masterpiece) or the movie (their blossoming), but it was an important bridge in their journey.
Utsukushii Kare Eternal (My Beautiful Man Eternal) (finished) [10]
So amazing. I wasn't sure that they could make a good ending of this story but they knocked it out of the park. Managed the tricky balancing act of having Hira and Koyoi grow up and learn to have a healthy relationship while still remaining their kinky weird selves. Echoed season one in so many beautiful and meaningful ways. I may eventually write more about it.
Long Time No See (movie) (finished) [7]
I didn't recognize the title so o started it without knowing anything about genre or plot. I wanted to like this much more than I did. Theoretically I am into all the elements. But somehow it didn't work for me. It felt hollow, or rather like the outline of a movie rather than the movie itself. Nothing really felt real to me. Perhaps just my mood, perhaps because I didn't recognize the name and so went in to it completely lost and confused. And the sex scenes all felt a little off, a little fake to me. Like the actors were kinda uncomfortable with it. It was very low budget for its concept, and I think needed to either be full kdrama length (maybe 8 full episodes) of get somehow even artier about it to be an atmospheric film. Which it should have been, and all indicators pointed to it, but somehow wasn't. I think I needed to know the characters better to care about. Which may or may not have required learning more about them; there are characters I've felt deeply that I knew very little about, but somehow not with these two. Also I couldn't get the sister's deal. It felt like she was hinting she knew the assassin secrets? But also not. Anyways, the leads were very pretty. And the shot of them stumbling out of the final fight was moving. I may write more later.
Dom (a Strongberry short) (dnf) [4]
Only 13 minutes long and I couldn't finish it, even with 1.5x speed in parts. Experimental little short about anthropomorphized condom boxes, and there's some sort of human plot about a virgin and his cheating boyfriend that I lost track of. It's not bad, just not what I was in the mood for.
Bake Me Please (like 10 minutes of ep 1) [5.5]
When I was talking about not being into cooking themed shows this is the kind of show I mean. It already had a bunch of tropes that are not for me, particularly random normal people treated like celebrities, and people on tumblr seem frustrated with it so it didn't feel worth pursuing.
Ossan's Love (2018 Japan) (2 of 7 eps) [8]
Seems very well constructed to be exactly what they wanted it to be. My enjoyment of that sort of slapstick and yelling style show depend on my mood, and I lost interest, but want to return eventually because it's a foundational show.
Love Mate (less than 1 ep) [7]
Some appealing elements, but got annoyed at the employee's negging and pushiness. I guess I'm too particular about realism, but in what company would it be acceptable to turn a meeting about their product into a psychoanalytical critique of why your boss can't love. Also I es confused by the bosses dating strategy. He just regularly meets up with men 1 time for awkward meals that he seems to hate and then doesn't even have sex with them? Or were we supposed to infer the sex was just censored out? Not the biggest deals but both together indicated that this show was going to play loose with logic in a way that would irritate me. And the seme was being a pushy ass.
Naked Dining (Zenra Meshi) (finished) [8.5]
Loved it overall, though had flaws. Loveblogged it so many thoughts in the tags.
My Ride (4 out of 10 eps) [7]
See today's liveblogging for my thoughts. I like many aspects, but lost interest after four eps. Didn't catch me up enough to want to binge it. I think I'm in an actor centric mode, and unfortunately none of the actors are that good in it.
Every Moment That I Think of You (finished) [8.5]
Randomly found on Gaga, 2 very short episodes from China 2021. Very appealing leads, censored, high school romance/intense friendship, partially through the pandemic. Fit a year's worth of story into 28 minutes. Surprisingly solid, though made me want to see the full length uncensored version of their love story, same actors. Ending confused me. Subtitles of voiceover implied that was their last night together but didn't say what happened, but nothing and was shown. Perhaps just a bad translation? Very low budget (sound mixing was amateur) but did a lot with what they had. Chaotic adolescent boy camera work and editing style, always moving, which fit story very well. Recommend if ok with censored stories.

aaaAAA I'm on a roll now, I'm just spitting whatever comes into my mind about Generation Loss onto the table now. I love this show very much and I no longer care if people see these posts, I have too many thoughts and I'm writing them down :DD.
PART THREE: FRANK AND CHARACTER ORIGINS
I don't think Frank is a skeleton. We know he's a dude, right? There was that screenshot someone took of Frank's poster in Episode 3, let me see if I can find it.
Tumblr media
Here we are. In my search for this screenshot, I did come across a lot of posts that said very similar things to what I was going to say, which was that Frank might just be a rotting corpse they drag around with them, which is really quite insane. I said in my first post of this late-night frenzy of Genloss thinking that I'm not very good at drawing, and in 45 minutes that hasn't actually changed. But I have a very graphic view in my head, and it makes the point where Jerma fucken smacks Frank across the face and breaks his fucking neck or something, it makes it all a lot harder to stomach. It's a gruesome thing, and now I'm just worried about how exactly Frank died.
Sneeg likes him, so maybe he was once the main character, where GL!Ranboo is now? It would make sense, because he's in that cage thing with Sneeg, so they might've just both failed together, but Frank was never going to go beyond the first episode without dying.
OH SPEAKING OF THAT. This is where the "and character origins" part of the post comes from.
I want to talk about where the other characters came from. We see a bunch of them, and they all allude to being in this game for a while before we see this iteration with GL!Ranboo in the main role, but I also have other ideas.
OPTION ONE: they're all, strictly speaking, actors, and Ranboo's the one running through this completely blind. They all know their roles, they understand what they have to do to get the story moving along (Sneeg tackles Austin to get Ranboo through the moving cutout wall thing, for example), and they play those roles. That would explain why Charlie's in every episode: he's the Slime Demon, then he's Surfer Dude/Patient Slime, and then he's Charlie Slimecicle the Streamer. He's a recurring talent (maybe I'll write another thing about where I think GL!Charlie came from, when speaking about option one). They're all mind controlled like Ranboo is, with the same filter layered over reality (except on Austin, I think his malfunctioned which is why he looked so horrified in the clothes room with Ethan, and on the merry-go-round next to rotting corpse!Frank, and Sneeg when he was wearing the hat). They're briefed on their roles, and they follow them, but their main goal is to keep the story moving and get Ranboo to the end. Once again, I think GL!Austin's filter thingy doesn't really work, because he called Jerma "sick", he looked horrified and disgusted to sit next to a dead body, I think he was the only person to care that GL!Ethan had been, you know, brutally murdered, and he also tried to take Ranboo's place in the cutout room.
OPTION TWO: They've all been through the games before. They've all been the main characters, and they've now been moved into other roles with each repetition of the show. So GL!Sneeg was once the main character in Episode 1, and then he fucked up and was locked in the cage with Frank (who also was the protagonist, but then he, uh, well something went wrong and Showfall regrets this Tragic Accident), before Ranboo comes around.
Slimecicle was the main character in Episode 2 once, and he was about to lose the Mousetrap game in the Candy Room, so he ate the piece so the Puzzler couldn't blast him to pieces. Obviously it worked, but he was repurposed as another role, because they took that "oh it's in him" as a great premise for the next time this show went over. Now, our version of Genloss, where GL!Ranboo's the main character, this could happen right after Slime ate the piece, or it could be a while back, but Showfall liked the idea so much they just kept forcing Slime to eat the pieces and random shit, or they cut him open and put it all back inside. Either way, it's not pretty.
Option Two would explain why GL!Vinesauce says "I've done it before" when he asks Sneeg and Ranboo to throw him across the lasers. It would make sense for the first two episodes, where there are other characters and the storyline seems to be in control (as much as Hetch was manipulating Episode 3, Ranboo did have his own mind back and made his own decisions, like with rescuing Streamer Charlie Slimecicle), because for those, the plotline is simple, straightforward, with barely any variation. The characters can be recycled, it makes sense. However, I think accidents do happen, and sometimes, in the case of Frank, actors only get past one episode before, you know, dying. RIP Frank. Squiggles misses you.

Opinion on the little shop tv show? How do you think the og cast would react to meeting the little shop cast?
(Another great question omg)
Little shop is very famously not very good,it's rated 4.1 stars out of 10 for a reason. I'm not going to lie I haven't finished little shop and when I initially watched it a year or so ago I was blinded by the fact it was little shop of horrors related.
It's actually not that bad for a kids cartoon based off a horror-musical and there's actually a lot of references to the 1960 film(despite it not taking place in the 60),which is done in a kid friendly way.
-The charcther Burson Fouch,a customer who eats flowers,is shown in the shows Halloween episode
Tumblr media
-Seymours mother who every time shes on screen either malingering (pretending to be ill or injured) or shes some kind of hypochondriac,is instead like a health nut whos allways working out. I think that's really nicely done.
Tumblr media
-there's a really funny exchange in I believe married to the mush(correct me if I'm wrong)
Mushnik:"What happened to the fire prevention show?"
Audery:"It burnt down"
Seymour:"It was a accident "
(The idea of Seymour just setting a fire in the last place you'd except to start a fire is very 1960s Seymour who everytime hes on screen seems to fall to his death)
-Audery's personality is way closer to that of 1960s audery but more childlike.
Audery seems to want a new job every episode and in episode 2 she has this pretty story line.
So In that episode Seymour is placed in home ec and there's a whole masculinity plot going on with him. Audery is very unhappy to be in home ec,she wanted to be in shop class since she's more of a tom boy.(I think mushnik made her take the class?he's her dad in this btw) but suddenly the teacher roles out a fridge and she's all like "I know what I wanna be now"
And I'm thinking "uh oh there gonna make her give up her personality to be like a house wife or something" which for the musical audery would be perfectly fine because she wants that but little shop audery is clearly very against it.
Do you know what job she wanted? A fridge repair women. She was so excited to just like fix a fridge. It's super funny.
-the dentist rols is actually kinda shared by a 2 characters. Paine driller and Dr.driller. Paine is the son of Dr.driller and he just bully Seymour.
There's this reoccurring bit where he like slingshots Seymour with his headgear and its pretty creative.
Tumblr media
(paine also has like a motorized bike that resembles a motorcycle)
Tumblr media
His dad is obviously a dentist but he's less "get off on the pain I inflict" and more money motivated. As he's pulling out a guys teeth he's taking about how he's gonna get a new car.
Little shop is kinda a perfect blend of old and new when it comes to the little shop of horrors franchise which is perfectly on brand.
Now on to the second part of your question. I don't think you mean the og actors meeting the voice actors and so I'm gonna give a little rundown on if the characters would like get along.
-the Seymours definitely would he's pretty much the same (not counting the short stories) musical Seymour would definitely be the most confident which is not saying much.
-I don't really think the auderys(plants) would get along very well there alll kinda different. Audery junior (movie) was found in the Amazon and dosent really have a personality besides wanting blood,It also has a really high voice which is funny. Twoey (musical) is from outer space and is confident and knows what it wants and it's pretty silly. Junior(cartoon) has like a bart and millhouse type friendship with Seymour and just kinda causes problems like a asshole and gets Seymour blamed. So it be very interesting to say the least.
(I eventually wanna talk about the different plants and there powers and origins and stuff)
-on the otther hand the human auderys would 100% get along great no doubt about it.
-mushnik is mostly the same throughout, only difference is gravis(movie) Is nicer to Seymour and less of a stereotype(and also kinda hot) so it probably go ok for them
-the dentists (I call them that because they all have different names) are all very very different characters.
Farb(movie) is one of the most normal little shop of horrors charcther ever. He does still engage in malpractice but he's actually sanitary, dresses properly and actually has like a kinda valid reason? Like he only intentionally hurts people when they wrong him like people who forget to pay and Seymour when he forgets his flowers.
But he still does his job, like he tells Seymour he'll rip out all his teeth but he only gets the one he needs to remove and he's not a bad person outside of work. He's described as a crummy dentist but a nice guy by Seymour when he's feeding his remains to junior.
Gravis Mushnik is also fine with him if he was this horrible person Gravis would probably comment on that. Farb is a little goofy but he's not that bad.
Dr.driller is also like really normal,he's money motivated but ok?that's his job that's why you work. He also seems to not know he's causing pain to his patients and he seems like a pretty decent dad.
Orin is just fucking insane, like batshit crazy. I have now clue how ashman saw farb and got orin our of it. Sure farb is described as sadistic (not by any charcther on screen) but he's nothing compared to Orin.
I think the 3 dentists interacting would probably just orin making the other 2 uncomfortable.
But yeah loved this question! I'm so happy to answer these little shop of horrors asks!!

ORIGINAL-CIN: Not only did you take on the grueling lead role of Juliette, you also served as Executive Producer  on the series.  Did you not know the pain and suffering you were going to have to go through taking this on?
REBECCA FERGUSON: I know, and it is never happening again. (Laughs). No, you know what? For the role of an Executive Producer, I literally had to google it whilst I was offered it, because I didn't really understand what it was.
Obviously I've been in this world for a long time, but I haven't had to care. I just came on set, did my acting and left for the day.
So when Graham Yost said, we would like to offer this, I remember thinking all I care about is learning the business. So if I would like to produce myself, who better to walk behind then Graham Yost? He’s a phenomenal showrunner and writer.
I also think it was the feeling that if you're going to give your life to something for a bit of time, I'd like to have a bit more control of the narrative, the creative aspect,  the cast and all of the departments.
It's hard to trust people, and if I am going to take on such a huge responsibility I need to know that it's going to be great! Now it turns out I can trust Graham with blind eyes. But yeah,  it's a learning curve and I really did love every minute of it.
O-C: Setting aside all of the behind-the-scenes work, what you put yourself through on-screen was pretty darned impressive. So much action, the emotions and the trauma of this character.  How did you even prepare to play her on that level?
FERGUSON:  The preparation for that came before I started honing in on the producing aspect. I wanted to be on top of it. I read the script so many times and spent so many weeks in the writers room, getting a feel of how Graham does it.
The fact that when he does other shows, he's writing it every day in a room, then he has to run the show. Then there are people on the ground who help rewrite whilst the actors are actually doing their scenes.  I found all of this so fascinating and quite helpful getting me into character.
So for me, I'm preparing everything that I think is needed and we work together.  When it comes down to the physical aspect of it, the training, learning the accent, and understanding her, I do all of that months in advance. I put a lot of effort into it.
O-C: I think what blew me away most was the sets. As a viewer we really get that sense of claustrophobia, being in this Silo with no way out.  Plus, continuously running up and down those stairs!
FERGUSON:  Obviously we don't have as many stairs as you see but trust me, it was exhausting.  After one take I was ready for a nap!
O-C: The series really makes you think about never being able to experience sunlight or fresh air. Could you ever imagine living in a world so immersive and  so contained?
FERGUSON: No, and that's the fun part of this entire project, visualizing and imagining when it happened.
How did it happen? Why did it happen? We were the children of the children. So you have to imagine that the people we are playing have been in there for their entire lives.   We don't know anything else and that's so interesting.
To back it up and think, “What were the first people like in there?” The fact that they created a working and sustainable life, creating  agriculture it's an incredible salute to the human race of recycling and resources and the reuse of things.
I think that's what we would do, we have to survive. But there are always rebels, people who question and that’s the basis of the whole series.

Bringing back Black Butler actor AU by writing a bunch of headcanons for it
Sebastian has a dog, yes. He loves it very much, a big fat bulldog that WILL run at you to show you love
The children do homeworks on set so an adult can help them LMAO (don't ask Will though he hated that shit)
Not Sieglinde though, she's homeschooled!! Sucks to sucks, it's not easy being rich 😩😩
Grell and Sebastian are childhood best friends. Sebastian's the one who scored her the role because he "works well with his bestie"
Grell: I genuinely thought I was just going to play a cute butler who's going to have this big gender identity revelation but turns out my best friend just thinks I'm a psychopath so that's nice to hear
Ron originally was a make-up staff who did stand-in for script readings but then the director was like "you're the perfect amount of British"
William genuinely adores Grell because she's been in the industry longer and also she's hot as hell
Madam plays extras after her death scene
Madam: I was just too hot to be alive </3
This is Lizzie's first role and for her great work, she was allowed to bring home 3 dresses of her liking
Had it been their way, Redcliff would've had more screentime and deeper relationships but ig ppl aren't ready for that
The one who breaks character the most is Ciel and the one who does it the least is surprisingly Finnian
Finnian is more known for darker and more serious depictions of teens so when he got casted, everyone was like "we're about to witness mental illness y'all"
Ran Mao is very talkative outside of her screen time. Girlie would infodump about her favorite thing that month to everyone
Mey Rin's a Chinese diaspora and so Lau takes her to 'reconnecting with your roots' trip at least twice a month
Ran Mao's a streamer and it's just her yelling "A FUCKING MONA 💀💀💀"
Lau is actually younger than Sebastian, Madam and Grell so when he first started, he called everyone with honorifics because this is his first non-chinese film and wow you white people really do go call everyone by their names even if they're older
Yes, this is an excuse for him to call Grell "Grell jiejie" and I just think that's cute and I love it. As a Chinese who can't speak Mandarin for shit, I want to call her jiejie LEAVE ME BE
Sieglinde has a very thick German accent that slips sometimes and whenever that happens, she and Ciel starts laughing
Sienglinde: it's not my fault you british have weird as hell accents
Ciel, a british: YOU TAKE THAT BACK
Lizzie brings all the young sapphic watchers bcs y'all,,,my girl is not straight at all and if she is, it's written in the most cursive shit ever
Sebastian on Grell's Instagram comments: SO TRUE QUEEN, MY WIFE, MY LOVE, PLEASE MARRY ME ❤
Grell replying back: lol no you're ugly /j
Grell is unfortunately a brunette irl rip to her roasting her own hair
The ones who are the least like their characters: Ciel (dude he's like 13), William (very sweet and soft-spoken, hates confrontation)
The ones who are literally their characters: Lau (he doesn't have a script, that's just him), Lizzie
Sebastian did actually accidentally stepped on Grell's face. He felt so bad that he kneeled to the floor and basically gave her an apology poem while she's just >:( that she has to redo her makeup
Mey Rin is blind as shit irl, she's just like me fr
Mey Rin: I wished I could see really far instead but no, I can't even see past my own nose
Ran Mao followed Lau's footsteps and calls (only) Grell "jiejie" because she likes her the best LMAO. The highest honor from Ran Mao is if she calls you with a Chinese honorofic, unless if you're Lau in which case she feels obligated to call him 'Lau gege'
Ciel is absolutely in awe with Sebastian's acting skills, he's all starry-eyed like "TEACH ME PLS"
Sebastian could only dance thanks to his theater kid days with Grell
I firmly believe that Sienglinde would love kpop and Hatsune Miku
Finnian has a RBF when he doesn't realize it, it scared Ciel shitless the first time

10 Questions for Rachel Shenton
Over the course of All Creatures Great and Small‘s four seasons, Helen has gone from farmer to wife to soon-to-be mother. In a Season 4 interview with MASTERPIECE, actor Rachel Shenton discusses Helen’s pregnancy, what she learned from the real James Herriot’s children, and filming a scene that overwhelmed her emotionally. Plus, we get her take on the Mrs. Hall and Gerald relationship (hint: it’s probably very similar to yours). All this and much more in just 10 questions! Contains Season 4 Episode 6 spoilers.
MASTERPIECE: Helen’s pregnancy is central to her storyline and character in Season 4. Can you talk about the challenges she’s facing along with the joys?
RACHEL SHENTON: I think this is a real journey for Helen. She’s usually the emollient in Heston Grange, is very much a central character in Skeldale, and is really good at being busy, being there for everybody, and coping—that’s very much her identity. And I think that this season is actually the first time that she needs other people—and towards the end of the series, quite literally, because she’s not as mobile and she needs help from Mrs. Hall and James to get around and do things for her.
But emotionally, as well, there’s a sense that her world’s rocked this season. Being pregnant with her first child is a big thing, and especially as an independent woman. Then, being a farmer, she’s like, “What’s that going to look like?” And then there’s the added pressure of James is going to war, and ultimately, the question that is on every partner’s mind in these situations, will he come back, and if he does, will he be the same? So that’s very real for her.
MASTERPIECE: In Episode 6, when Helen is terrified that something has gone wrong with the baby, Siegfried finds the baby’s heartbeat and she hears it. Did that moment move you, and what was it like to create?
RACHEL SHENTON: Yeah, completely, because Helen was very much on her own. James and Helen have got such an unshakeable union—they’re a really brilliant team, and it’s something that Nick and I always try and recreate, because it’s stuck in our minds from when we first got cast and we talked to Jim and Rosie, who are Alf and Joan Wight’s—that’s the real James and Helen’s—children. They spoke about this brilliant union that their parents had, how they were a force to be reckoned with, and how they were always the caretaker of each other’s emotions. It was something that we really felt strongly about getting right.
In Episode 6, she needs James, and he’s not there, because he can’t be; he’s away at war. So there’s a moment where she comes downstairs, just before they go to Heston Grange, and Siegfried checks Helen’s belly. Helen goes into the lounge with Mrs. Hall, and it’s almost like a blind panic. As I’m playing that role—and I’ve played it for four seasons now, and I’ve never played that [panic] before, because she doesn’t get there. I think she usually doesn’t get there because, one, she’s very measured, and two, James is always there. It was a marker that actually, she’s on the verge of not being okay. And so when that moment happened, when they did hear the baby’s heartbeat, it was just complete overwhelming and ultimate relief that she’d managed to keep both of them safe.
MASTERPIECE: Did you learn anything from Jim and Rosie about this time in their parents’ lives when they were expecting their first child?
RACHEL SHENTON: We learned that when Alf signed up, Joan wasn’t pregnant yet, and then, of course, she was. I think they wove that into the story really well, the sense that actually, had Helen been pregnant, who knows what James would have done. Would he have gone? Who knows? That wasn’t the case, and they dealt with his departure like they dealt with everything: as a team.
But that actually was one of the few scenes that has ever really rocked me—I almost couldn’t get through it, when he was going to war in Episode 5. I was so emotional from the moment I first read it because I just was so invested in this story, and James was leaving. Helen said, “Do you mind if I don’t come to the bus stop? I can’t face it,” and there was that real moment where you can put yourself in that position, like, “Oh my goodness—this person might not come back. That’s the reality.” And that was so overwhelming for me. I was very grateful that our brilliant director, Jordan Hogg, managed to do it in one take, because I was falling apart, so I’m glad that they didn’t make me do it again and again.
But in answer to your question, I think they felt a huge sense that they were both bereft when they were apart and desperately wanted to be together. They were a real team.
MASTERPIECE: Helen’s relationship with Mrs. Hall deepens in Season 4. They’re different ages, they’re different backgrounds, and yet they have become real friends. Is there something of a mother/daughter element, too?
RACHEL SHENTON: Oh, without a doubt there is. We’ve seen it a couple of times when she’s really needed it, when there’s no one around Helen to say, “Are you okay?” You very much feel that absence, and getting married and having a child are two of the biggest, so it’s really nice that Audrey’s there. And Helen is able to create a sort of safe space for Mrs. Hall, as well, who also doesn’t have anybody really that she can share some things with. I think it’s really interesting that Helen’s the only one who isn’t on the payroll at Skeldale, and there’s a bit of a fear through the house of Siegfried, but Helen doesn’t subscribe to it, because why would she? So I think that it’s a safer space for Mrs. Hall as well, which is nice.
MASTERPIECE: It’s such fun to watch Helen and Siegfried’s relationship play out. How does she keep her cool with him and maintain their mutual respect?
RACHEL SHENTON: I really like that she calls him out. She can roll her eyes, raise her eyebrow, or make a cheeky comment, and she’s been like that from the very beginning. The first scene I shot was with James and Siegfried, and there was even back then a mutual respect between Helen and Siegfried. I think that’s because she takes no nonsense. She’s known him since she was little so she’s completely unfazed by his shouting, and quite frankly, she’s used to Richard Alderson, so Siegfried’s shouting is nothing. She’s used to these strong men that throw their weight around and shout—she’s royally unfazed by it. And he doesn’t pay her wages, so I think if anyone was to really get on his nerves, it probably would be Helen, because he’s got no power over her.
MASTERPIECE: What has it been like to see Imogen Clawson, the actor playing Helen’s sister Jenny, grow up alongside her character?
RACHEL SHENTON: Well, I’d like her to stop growing now, because she’s actually taller than me, so I’d like that to stop. We joke about it all the time—I’m like, “Could we just do scenes where she’s sitting on a chair, because she’s so much taller than me?” Oh, she’s gorgeous, absolutely lovely. She’s a joy to be around. She’s so bright, and a pleasure on and off set, and to see her grow as an actor. And we hang out outside of work, go to Nando’s sometimes, which is a sort of cheesy fast food place around here, and have a burger and chip. We catch up on life as well as work, and so we’ve got that relationship, which is really lovely.
MASTERPIECE: Do you have a favorite or funniest animal moment from Season 4?
RACHEL SHENTON: When they put scenes with Anna [Madeley] and me together, usually we giggle about something and then can’t stop. That’s just kind of what happens, even though it’s often nothing related to the script. But there was a great scene with the little cat when he had to be in a bad way because he’d been knocked over. They were trying their best to make him look as unhealthy as they could, but he was so lively that he just kept popping up with these beautiful, big, bright eyes in the middle of a take. We were like, “Cut! Reset!” I’d be talking about, “Oh, poor little thing. He’s in a bad way,” and then he’d just pop up, all bright-eyed like, “Who, me?” That was quite a funny moment. It was great.
MASTERPIECE: It was heartbreaking to see Mrs. Hall and Gerald part ways. How do you feel about it?
RACHEL SHENTON: It’s so emotional, wasn’t it? I’m very invested in Gerald and Mrs. Hall’s relationship. I’ve said it on the record plenty of times, that watching Mrs. Hall and Gerald’s stuff is usually my favorite, and maybe it’s because of two reasons: one, I’ve usually got a hand in the other stories—I’ve either read them, I’m in them, or I’ve understood them a lot because there’s a crossover with Helen’s character in other stories—whereas the story between Gerald and Mrs. Hall, I’m never involved in, so I can really just sit back and enjoy it like a viewer. Even at the read-through, I try not to listen too much, because I like to just be surprised by it. And two, I really liked them. I really liked Gerald. I thought they had something good. But he needs to go and look after his sister, and she can’t leave Skeldale, and I get it. So maybe it’s one of those things when life’s sometimes a bit unfair.
Also, Will [Thorpe, who plays Gerald] is just bloody hilarious. He’s such a great guy to have on set—he’s brilliant at telling the jokes, he’s got such good comedy timing. He’ll be missed.
MASTERPIECE: As for your adorable little Maltese, Rosie, which dog from the show is she most like, and who would be the most fun play date for her?
RACHEL SHENTON:
Dash, the little ginger head cocker spaniel in Skeldale, has got such a beautiful temperament. She always wants a cuddle, and Rosie just wants a cuddle, so I’d say in personality, she’s probably most similar to Dash. As for a play date, I think it would be Tricki because he’s so chill and Rosie’s quite chill—she likes to just be with you, lie around a bit. If you get some chicken or some treats, she’s happy, and he’s the same, so I think that they’d be soulmates.
MASTERPIECE: What can you tell us about the scripted podcast Gladstone Girls that you’re creating, and that draws from some All Creatures Great and Small talent? It’s not out yet, but we can keep our eyes and ears on alert…
RACHEL SHENTON: Well, it’s a comedy drama, really, and a labor of love. I’m from three generations of pottery women. It’s set in 1972, in a Gladstone pottery factory in a lithograph room. Every Friday in the factories, the girls would basically turn the factory floor into a hairdressing salon to get ready for their big night out. So it was all hairspray, makeup, and curlers, and they’d put their hair, famously, in “pickle,”—where I’m from, you’d say you put your hair in pickle instead of in rollers. It was coined Curl Friday, because that’s what happened every Friday. Then, a new floor manager arrives, played by the brilliant Adrian Rollins, who played Hargreaves in Season 3—he wants to put a stop to Curl Friday, and the girls end up going on peaceful protest every day. I got Anna Madeley to play the lead, because she’s just fabulous and she can’t get away from me that easily, so she did it, whether she wanted to or not! And Dorothy Atkinson’s [All Creatures Great and Small‘s Diana Brompton] in it too. The women were so tough, so strong, and so funny. There was a real sense of togetherness, camaraderie, community. So it’s good fun, and it’s about curlers, but actually it’s about sticking together and standing up for what you believe in, and that feels relevant even now.
It is just a celebration of the potteries industry, really, of an industry that I don’t think many people know much about, this entire industry that came from this tiny little place in the middle of England. We interviewed over a hundred pottery women, so it’s based on true stories and real life. It’s a skill that people don’t know about much. They were so rich in artistry. My grandma used to say that when she first held a paintbrush, she knew that’s what she wanted to do for the rest of her life. She was just as much as an artist as I am, but she never earned the right to be an “artist” because she was in a factory. I feel very protective of this story, more so than probably anything else, because I know the people so well, and I feel very strongly that they’re depicted in the right way. I’m very proud of it.

Hello there! Love the actor au very much! How about Gil is watching Thena while she is doing a scene? Pretty sure he is mesmerized by her look, her presence and acting skills too!
Gil was staring. Everyone was.
Thena was in the middle of a few glamour shots, meant just to capture her natural beauty in their current work. It was a fantasy thing--she was a beautiful creature of nature, with massive wings they would CGI onto her in post.
A flower crown sat on her perfect sunshine hair, there were a few real little bunnies hopping around. A few green blobs were also scattered around in order to animate them into more fantastical creatures. It was quite different from the roles he had done with her before.
He was playing a royal guard, in charge of protecting the queen, who would turn out to be evil by the end of it. He hadn't had many scenes with Thena yet, but even just being on the same set with her put him more at ease.
"Sometimes," Thena murmured in the scene to her little bunny friends, as well as the young actor playing the fish out of water who had stumbled into her little forest. "People want for things they know they can't have."
"But why, your majesty?" the kid asked in - to his ear - a pretty mediocre accent. They couldn't find an actual English accent?
Thena sighed, stroking one of the bunnies that seemed to have really taken a liking to her. Gil had to keep his laughter in; furry animals weren't really Thena's thing. She was staying in the scene really well, but he was certain they would have to get them all off her once they cut before she freaked out.
"We are not so different from humans," she murmured, extending her vowels in a received pronunciation that she had mastered early on in her career. "They are capable of insatiable greed. But do we not also want for things just out of reach?"
Gil sighed.
"But, your majesty," the kid scooched a little closer on the fake forest floor they had constructed. "You are the most powerful fae around."
The kid's tiny hand floated up, stroking what would be a shimmering white feathered wing in the final film. For now, it was just the empty air between them.
Gil smiled; Thena moved her shoulders faintly, as one would when a part of their body was adjusting itself. It would look great when the wings were 'on her'.
Thena pursed her lips (a personal habit that made its way into her characters every once in a while). "Power does not equal strength, and strength does not guarantee things going the way you might like. There are things I want that my power will never help me attain."
She looked off into the distance, longing written all over her face. Although her eyes landed on Gil, in the distance, behind the blinding lights on the scene. Her lips twitched into a smile. "The heart wants what it wants, child. It longs for things it once had, no matter how you tell it not to."
"And...cut!"
Thena smiled as the kid was pulled away for a mandatory union break. She remained sitting, still encircled by free roaming little bunnies.
Gil chuckled, walking right up to the soundstage and being careful of any wandering cotton balls. The wranglers were already rushing out to collect up the vulnerable little creatures. Gil knelt down beside her and reached out a hand, "your Majesty?"
"Very funny," Thena chided him lightly as she took his hand. "My legs are asleep after all those takes."
Gil waited in that position until all the rabbits were collected up and clear from danger. Once the wranglers were all clear he moved back to his feet, pulling Thena up with him. She laughed as he swung her around in his arms. "You got it?"
"Ah!" she bit her lip as she tried to firm up her knees, "pins and needles!"
"Okay," he laughed, as if he needed that excuse to sweep her up in his arms and walk off with her bridal style. "Let's go."
"Gil!" Thena laughed as he made his way down the stairs and towards their chairs. They initially weren't anywhere near each other, but they had both moved them together subtly over the course of several days.
"Well, we can't have the fae queen wobbling around like a fawn," he teased, and received a poke in the cheek for it. She could have smacked him on the arm but he was in his 'armour' for his scene.
"You are supposed to be allied to a different queen," Thena pointed out as he deposited her right into her chair, flowing white dress and all.
Gil sat himself next to her, as he always did. "Well, she does turn out to be plotting, like, magical mass murder by the end of this. So maybe I should reconsider some shit in my guard life."
Thena just shook her head at him, pushing back the mane of hair she had, and which was made even longer by the extensions they had woven into it. "I won't miss this, I can say that much."
Gil helped her sort the mass of hair out of her way as she picked up her script and her bottle of water. "What did make you take this?"
"Hm?"
"Well," he shrugged, the replica armour he was wearing clanking faintly against itself as he did. "It's not really your usual thing. Especially the benevolent fairy queen part."
Thena raised a brow at him with a smirk, "are you saying being the beautiful queen of the enchanted forest doesn't suit me?"
"Come on," he gave her a nudge. Their laughter died down and he lowered his voice, "really, though."
Thena tucked some of her hair, and what was attached to it, behind her ear. Her smile became bashful as she looked down at her open scrip on her lap. "Well...I wanted something in between action films. And...when you told me you were signed on-"
Gil's eyes lit up visibly.
"Stop it," she murmured, sticking her finger in between the plates of plastic armour on his shoulder just to give him a good poke. "Why did you take this, then?"
Gil shrugged. "I mean, my part is relatively small. I was told my shoot time would be half of what it usually is. And I get to be a literal knight in shining armour!"
"Well, you do come over to my side by the end of it," Thena murmured, flipping through her pages. It was only briefly mentioned, and it would be ultimately up to the director and how things looked onscreen the day of the shoot, but it was implied that the queen's guard would defect by the end of things.
"See?" Gil wiggled his pinkie at her. "You're still my queen at the end of the day."
"The poor, lonely fae queen will finally have a soul to match hers?" Thena rested her chin in her palm, batting her lashes at him.
"Well, I'm sure she'll be in need of some," Gil mirrored her playful body language, leaning forward until they could practically touch noses, "protection."

you know what boils my blood me this back handed compliment people give will like I get so mf tired of it what do you all mean he’s had the biggest glow up of the century and it should be studied or the eyebrow guy or y’all getting paid kid has had the biggest glow up on earth! Obviously y’all only know and remember him from when he was a literal child so ofc y’all didn’t think he was HOT since y’all was also kids, teenagers or young adults because first of all why would a kid think of another child like that and why especially would a teenager/young adult think or see a kid like that so icky
it make sense why you guys didn’t see it because it would’ve been weird if you only saw/remember him as the kid from narnia or we are the millers, it’s like when people talk about certain skins actors and say he’s had glow up but it’s just them hitting puberty since the last time y’all saw him he was Victorian looking kid and y’all either not seeing them as cute bc of it or racism let’s be honest now which was the biggest reason in skins fandom when it came to who they found hot or who they didn’t or he was just skinny starving looking kid! the shook when people only found Tony (Nicholas) Luke (Joe) Cook (Jack) and Freddie (Luke as the cute attractive ones from skins guys and didn’t see Kenneth (Daniel) Anwar (Dev) Chris (Joe) as cute attractive hot even calling them ugly two of them had more racist subtext they just didn’t find the non yt characters cute which is fine but then saying they was ugly was pure racism bc they was adorably cute too actually!
Anyways that’s how I feel about this whole Will situation it isn’t that he was ugly it was just y’all always saw him as this annoying character Eustace he played or like irritating little brother figure bc he felt so relatable in his roles while we watched him grow up so ofc y’all wouldn’t find him hot growing up with him ofc y’all wouldn’t find a child HOT that’s nasty but I can never understand how y’all watched mf Maze Runner and saw Will looking this good and not find him the most beautiful stunning(look at his eyes look at the way he looks his pretty freckles that made him look so unreal and magical) boy you had ever seen like I could never I can’t even imagine it myself how y’all didn’t see it, it was the hair not this hair but the short buzz cut that always ruined it for him look wise for some people not me tho he looked so good so beautiful even hotter with that buzz cut (fyi I can say this bc when I watch this he was legit older then me) so this isn’t me being weird about child! and don’t get me started on the eyebrows in we are the millers like that was working against him because he was so motherfucking cute in that so gorgeous even if was just the eyebrows having a kind of it’s own and his character makes those facial expressions didn’t exactly help Will looks get favorable.
But yeah I’m so tired of this glow up thing when he was just a child when y’all saw him last and now he’s grown ass man in his 30s with better haircut hairstyle and not a mf 9-16 year old with buzz cut there’s no glow its just called hitting puberty an seeing him in more big things now as an adult because y’all haven’t been keeping up with him so y’all didn’t see the way puberty was doing him so y’all just saw him one day after marvel news and decided it’s a glow up! I’m thankful for marvel and his role because y’all finally checking up on him but if y’all had before y’all would’ve seen hee always been FINEE and he didn’t have glow up at all y’all was just blind or ignoring him in things bc he didn’t use to do big comic projects but well written great indie or artistic movies with amazing scripts and plots and y’all just ignored that and now you can’t because he’s in marvel movie!

ps would like to thank the skins casting directors because they was doing the lords work the way all the biggest British actors right now mostly came from that show is insane like eveyone big British actor is from that show I think only Andrew Will Thomas and John Boygega isn’t I mean just look at this casting that’s why skins and UK tv will always be superior truly had amazing casting without needing the whole diversity or blind casting shit pushed on them they were just casting the best actors for the role and that actor did get the role love to see it need more shows like skins not only was the actors incredible brilliant I mean obviously when so many of them have so many Emmy nominations and other huge awards and 3 of them are literally Oscar winners (Daniel Dev and Peter) but the show itself was phenomenal the writing the characters development how real it felt and the fact it was actual teenagers playing teenagers unlike American shows where they when grown 30-40 year old men playing teens and having the shows be so dramatic extra and just unnecessary like euphoria like no one believes thats how a real life school experience is but people would believe it about skins it wasn’t just about sex drugs trying to be so mf dramatic plots and storylines that was just extra and not needed at all ect but about real life teenagers and how school life could actually be
SKINS WAS JUST WAY TO A HEAD OF ITS TIME WHAT A BRILLIANT PHENOMENAL CINEMATIC MASTERPIECE!

Responding to two of the anons and your responses bc this is an interesting dialogue!
1) Laura Dern is happy help- you’re totally right. She’s also a nepo baby but she has talent, so she has kind of a blind spot about newer nepos. If people follow in their parents footsteps then fine but when they just wanna be famous and not do the work…not fine. Most gen z nepo kids have sparked the nepotism conversation in Hollywood bc they don’t work hard and lack talent- unlike those who came before them like a Laura Dern or a Jamie Lee Curtis ( who clearly got triggered by the discourse even though nobody said anything about her bc she is talented lol). All the same, I think the anon was just pointing out how lazy Kaia is when it comes to actually working on her craft and just thought she’d magically get awesome at comedy acting being around comedy acting vets hahaha. (At least that’s how I read her quotes on it in the insipid article where she talked about her acting.)
2) Camilla Morrone doesn’t have famous parents but her parents are in the industry. In my opinion that’s where the nepo debate gets fuzzy. There’s more privilege with the access any parents in show business has, but also if they aren’t household names they likely don’t have THAT much power like a Cindy Crawford or Johnny Depp would have. But Camilla liked a bunched of racist posts and dates for clout- and allegedly her talent is only so-so (I haven’t seen her so I can’t speak to it but I’ve seen people be mixed on her abilities at best). So idk if she’s a true nepo, but a true LA social climber and hey…birds of a feather flock together hence she’s friends with Kaia and Charlotte Lawrence and all of their tone deaf friends who come from money and chase fame.
But I’m with you. Nepotism is what it is. But personally I find this current crop to be pretty insufferable and not as charismatic as past generations (and largely lack talent). Kaia is one of the worst offenders and almost everyone she rolls with represents why. She doesn’t deserve the rolls she got and it’s sad she keeps stealing the rolls from actual deserving actresses who aren’t as privileged.
hey anon welcome into the nepo discourse :)
you basically hit all the nails on the head with this one and there isn't a whole lot i think i could add to this one except for this
kaia clearly shows us through her comments on nepotism and her attitude towards her career that she gets a free pass and she's cool about it. those in the industry that were not born into privilege, who were lower class or blue collar, who pushed themselves to study the craft, who did the work of going to countless auditions without booking anything...those are the people that are well deserved in their acting talents and their fame. austin is the best example of this. it's the passion you must have to be an actor and it's not as easy as just showing up to set and reading some lines and going home. we as an audience take acting for granted because we watch movies and we see how effortless GOOD actors make it look. but when there's a bad actor on screen, it takes you out of the immersion. and it hinders the greatness of the movie, and it cheapens the performances of the other actors around them. it's clear she has no work ethic, no values or morals, and will never take the time to take acting classes that SHE NEEDS. she needs acting lessons to be even remotely an okay actress, if she wants to be taken seriously. imo she never will, she's okay with getting handed roles to her and not lifting a finger...meanwhile hardworking people who would kill for any role she plays will be left on the sidelines because a nepo baby was chosen over them.
welp.

FILE: MOON JINO _ END OF YEAR ’23 CRITIQUE.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
›   WHAT WERE SOME OF YOUR GREATEST ACCOM-PLISHMENTS THIS YEAR? — OUT OF ALL OF THEM, WHICH WAS THE MOST MEMORABLE FOR YOU?
a lot could have prefaced his answer — he could have said anything because much like last year, everything this year had changed for the better, in a different way. because for jino, no day was really the same — at least that’s how he saw it. but the one that comes to mind is this: “finally figuring out what i want.” he had spent the last year and a half mulling about, feet in the mud, trying to sort out whether any of this was actually for him. sure, coach nam had helped him regard modeling as an option — he had minseo to really thank for getting him to really see that the actor path could be a more foreseeable career. he had never been one to watch television outside of the infrequent sports matches he’d catch here and there. it was really through minseo’s guidance (read: insistent nagging to watch any and every new drama that came out) that helped him get a better idea of just what he could offer. through it, he began to think: hm, maybe i could do that — which led to him changing his path, finally.
Tumblr media
›   WHAT AREA(S) DO YOU THINK YOU’VE PERSONALLY IMPROVED ON SINCE THE BEGINNING OF THE YEAR?
“not being so careless in my goals and actually having goals to see through, if that could be called an improvement.” jino sees the past year for what’s worth: seeing how he’s grown from just letting the company do what it wanted with him to actually exerting and seeing through his own ideas. such as when he got to pair up with a designer for the latest event hosted by the agency. while he didn’t have so many thoughts or ideas, he was able to fully put the things he actually believed in into words and relayed them properly to the designer. as someone who usually went with the flow and never wants to appear demanding or commanding, jino relishes in the comfort of being simple and going at his own ease and pace. so, changing career paths and getting opportunities came with his own voice and opinions that he is finally comfortable with expressing. this includes finally figuring out what kind of goals and just what he wants out of his career.
Tumblr media
›   WHAT ARE SOME OF YOUR PERSONAL GOALS FOR 2024?
“i want to own a fish!" a personal goal for him is to become a fish parent — ever since he’s been cooped up in the dorms, he has always wanted to become a parent to a pretty little goldfish. he knows the commitment is a lot and owning and caring for a fish is no easy job but he thinks he can handle the responsibility — he just signed a lease on his apartment ( albeit with the help of hyunsoo and his eye for seeing through obvious scams ) — and wants to prove it.  “ — and also get a gig that my grandma can tell her friends about.” a more professional goal jino wants to see through this year is that he wants to gain experience. outside of events hosted by the company, and classes he attends to better understand his job, he lacks experience. so, for 2024, he hopes to better himself in order to land an audition, and eventually a role — however small — in something plausible, something his grandparents can gush about even if he only gets 5 seconds of screen time.
Tumblr media
›   OUT OF ALL THE ACTORS, WHAT DO YOU THINK THAT MAKES YOU STAND OUT FROM ALL OF THEM?
never one to compare himself to others — he gets enough of that when he’s standing in the same room as sujin ( insert eye roll and internal ugh ) — but when he thinks of himself, two points stand out and they’re, unsurprisingly, the ones that are always paired when talking he becomes the person in question.  “my optimism and blind resilience.”  he isn’t sure about anyone else but he knows that his resilience is one to be on par of the greats — of the impossible, probably. his resilience is what brought him all the way from new zealand to south korea despite all the things he would be leaving behind. the fact that he had left in the first place — at quite literally a drop of the hat — was due to this. his optimism only further prodded this decision into existence. his optimism is just as blind as his resilience — overcoming and at times overwhelming to anyone who comes into a meter radius of the male. he likes to see the better things out of, well, everything and can’t quite understand dwelling in the doubts or the negatives.  for jino, he believes that good things will come — they will. ( just like how he went about his trainee period believing that he will one day figure out what he wanted — lo and behold, nearly a year and a half later, he’s there. or when he put his heart on the line and went out of his way to tell jaekyung how he felt — even if he only exposed just a small part of his feelings rather than the entire depth of them — he only believed good could come out of it, forgoing the doubts that it could have gone horribly wrong at any moment )

“hosting could be fun.” he doesn’t know much about it — just the bits and pieces here and there from when he remembers helping cherry with her own interview / host abilities. it had been fun being the contestant / interviewee, and answering her questions had been interesting, even if the questions were out there and he was no prepared for them whatsoever. but seeing her do it, made him think about — and it was a thought that loomed in the back of his mind. for a later time, for after he’s gotten himself accustomed to acting — to when he’s more conscious of being more careful with his words.

Eye Opening Concept of "The Great Dictator" And Chaplins Portrayl as one of the most Notorious Leaders
                                                                                     Dante Calabrese
This week, I saw the Charlie Chaplin film The Great Dictator, which has a lot of anti-Nazi overtones. It also relates to Dorothy B. Jones' book The Hollywood War Film: 1942–1944. In this passage, it is discussed how World War II-era movies portrayed the conflict and the issues they explored. Since not every nation participated in the war, the reading also touches on how the conflict has been misrepresented in movies.
Tumblr media
There are numerous examples of anti-Nazi undertones in Charlie Chaplin's 1940 film The Great Dictator. Charlie Chaplin portrays two characters: Adenoid Hynkel, a mocking allusion to Adolf Hitler, and a Jewish barber. The story alternates between the lives of Hynkel and the Barber giving off a two story plot connected into one entire story alone. In the text of the book a quote by Jones, she states “During 1942 and 1943 the quality of home-front stories was consistently low. In most films, such activities were given a comedy treatment.” Another ideal quote from the text emphasising the connection with the film plot very well is “As a whole, they tended to stereotype them as the usual gangster “heavy,” identifiable by the fact that he either “heils Hitler” and speaks with a guttural German accent, or has slant eyes and hisses his “s’s””. Its very intersting the how this quote shows great emphasis and description of how Chaplin's acting and the other supporting cast portray these Nazis acting in the film. What this film does at the end of the day when taking in all of it is that a famous actor Chaplin himself took his artistic skills of turning one of the most horrible and dealiest Genocides by making it into a dark humor comedy as a means to help people digest this horrific realife events but at the same time spinning it into a new twist that the Holocaust had to endure, almost a means of coping with this. While excellent in the role, Chaplin also adds his own brand of humor by essentially making fun of himself. He conveys the idea that the guy he is playing, who is perceived by the Germans to be an all-powerful and idolized person, is actually just a horrible and stupid person by using his facial expressions and even stumbling over his sentences. He takes the oppertunity to mock humiliate Hitler and showing him as fool. Lastly Ironically history would repeat itself with the hollywood film industry with another film taking the same extent of comdey and foolishnes making fun of Hitler was the 2019 film, "JoJo Rabbit" with the director taking on the same role as Chaplin did being Hitler. The story follows as so, Jojo is a lonely German boy who discovers that his single mother is hiding a Jewish girl in their attic. Aided only by his imaginary friend -- Adolf Hitler Jojo must confront his blind nationalism as World War II continues to rage on.

𝔼𝕧𝕒𝕟 ℙ𝕖𝕥𝕖𝕣𝕤 𝕩 𝔽! ℝ𝕖𝕒𝕕𝕖𝕣

Synopsis: you are a mid 20s actress, and you meet Evan at the Golden Globes, he is 27.
Your outfit:

What Evan is wearing and how he looks:
Tumblr media
Now to the actual story.....
"Dorothea, over here!" "Dorothea look this way!" "Dorothea look straight!"
A million people call my name as I stand on the red carpet, camera flashes blinding my eyes. This is it. One of the biggest award ceremonies, the Golden Globes. I finally get to walk past the cameras, and not paying attention, I bump into one of my favorite celebrities, Evan Peters. Great way to meet someone.
As he grabs my arm to keep me from falling into him, he checks if I'm okay.
"Hey Dorothea! You alright?"
"Oh my god yes I'm okay, I can't believe I'm meeting you like this. I've wanted to meet you for a while!" I say, shocked and slightly out of breath, with him still holding onto me. He looks down at himself, and we both blush a little, realizing we've been inches away from each other for much longer than necessary. He lets go and I back away, resuming the conversation.
"As I was saying, I've wanted to meet you for a while! I love your work and dedication to your roles." I say
"Thank you so much, Dorothea! I loved the movie you were just in, A Walk. It's such a beautiful story." He responds
Before I can say anything else, someone calls his name, ripping his attention from me.
"I'll see you around Dorothea!" he calls before getting sucked into the crowd of people at the end of the carpet.
"Yeah, see ya!" I call, knowing I probably won't.
𝕋𝕚𝕞𝕖 𝕤𝕜𝕚𝕡 𝕥𝕠 𝕨𝕙𝕖𝕟 𝕖𝕧𝕖𝕣𝕪𝕠𝕟𝕖 𝕚𝕤 𝕤𝕚𝕥𝕥𝕚𝕟𝕘 𝕒𝕟𝕕 𝕒𝕨𝕒𝕣𝕕𝕤 𝕙𝕒𝕧𝕖 𝕤𝕥𝕒𝕣𝕥𝕖𝕕:
I haven't seen Evan yet, but one of the categories he is nominated for comes up, hopefully he wins!
... "And the award for best male supporting actor is..... Evan Peters, Adult World!"
I am so happy I could cry, and the crowd obviously feels the same way, erupting into cheers. As he gets up to the stage, I clap so hard I feel like I could've broken my hand.
He looks near tears, as he gives his accepting speech. Evan and I make eye contact for no more than a split second, but it feels like an eternity. Once he comes back to his seat, he stops by me, an leans down a little. I'm pretty sure my heart stops beating.
"Thank you Dorothea, I'm pretty sure you clapped harder than anyone else in here." He whispers in my ear, making me feel like I'm going to explode.
"Of course," I say "I'm pretty sure I'm you're biggest fan." I smile, then kiss him on the cheek, a friendly move, but one that showed I'd like to get to know him more. Someone snapped a picture just as my lips pressed against his cheek. He stood back up, walking away and left with a light pink tint on his cheeks, the same one dusting mine.
Small part but I wanted to leave on an edge!!!!

My essay on why Casa de Calma was the worst episode from The Looney tunes show
Tumblr media
I’ll start by analysing it from the viewpoint of maintaining the consistency of Bugs and Daffy’s tlts characterizations.
Tlts Bugs and Daffy are different from their og counterparts, that’s an important distinction to make. Bugs and Daffy in tlts are good friends, not at odds with each other, and only disagree over petty/mundane stuff, not to the point of serious danger — Bugs tolerates Daffy and usually accepts him for the psycho narcissist he is, and Daffy cares for Bugs’ opinion and consistently values his friendship with him. Their og counterparts got an air of self-awareness that they're rivals, and at times, get depicted as enemies, with Bugs depicted as not caring for Daffy in the slightest, and vice versa — and since their interactions don't necessarily carry within the shorts, you won't see consistency in their relationship status.
So for og shorts, it's well in their characters to act callously towards each other since toon logic and etiquette is more loose than our perception of social etiquette and conventions irl (the latter which is what tlts leans more towards). Plus, the meta context that they're actors filling a role.
With all this in mind, what happens in Casa de Calma past the opening card is that Bugs and Daffy immediately ogle a female celebrity, and in that instance, Daffy becomes possessive of her (who he immediately forgets the name of), and shoves off Bugs to try and impress her — which ends with him failing miserably and Bugs effortlessly getting with the girl repeatedly. And that's the episode. It's an episode's worth of what usually should only last for 7 minute tops. The longer it goes on you kind of feel for Daffy, but also dislike him since his motives are so sleezy. He doesn't even like her for any real reason other than she's narratively attractive and he wants to one up Bugs. In just one second of looking at her when Bugs points her out, he picks up that they're both ogling her and throws a tantrum over it. He immediately shouts at Bugs that she's "his", which paints him in a bad light — so of course he'll get the brunt of the cosmic interference. Throughout the show, Daffy doesn't hit on women to the degree of divorcing himself from Bugs except for this one instance. Heck, he seems to get along well with women and treat them the same as he'd treat men. If this was Daffy from any other episode, he would be more inclined to compare himself to her in attractiveness and state that he has the better fit and proportions. Cuz his narcissism bests whatever sexism he may possess.
Bugs in this episode has the issue of not actively trying to get the girl, but also being interested enough that when he gets the Scarlet Johansson character it doesn't seem like he does it out of pettiness to screw with Daffy (which seemed that way at first), but because he does want her in this episode. He doesn't seem to care about Daffy but only tolerates his company? Like, it doesn't read well as an accurate writing for the tlts counterparts, more like an attempt at recreating their dynamic from the original shorts. But even then, that falls apart.
The episode makes me question the validity of their friendship since Daffy's horny for girls (quick tangent: he also wanted to get a massage from a hot girl, and assumes the gender from their names, which is oddly presumptuous of him, since a lot of other episodes depicted him as gender blind. yet Bugs has stated that he's sexist, and he doesn't deny it so??? I could make an essay about Daffy and the validity of calling him sexist but i digress) and it asserts itself more than the budding rivalry between him and Bugs -- and that's the issue.
In the og shorts, Bugs and Daffy shorts were great when the rivalry was the central driving force between the two. A battle of wits. A clash of egos. Whatever thing they're fighting over is second priority to what they actually care about -- which would be gaining the upper hand over the other, and winning. I can't account for every short where Bugs and Daffy were at war with each other, but I do feel like if they ever did have an instance of fighting over a woman, it's because they want to one up the other, and they would care less about actually attending to the woman -- which could end in her waltzing off with both of them gobsmacked and technically at a draw.
So Casa de calma fails in the characterisations of tlts Bugs and Daffy, as well as imitating the og Bugs and Daffy dynamic -- that is, if that was the actual intent.
But that's the meat of my dislike of this episode, aside from this glaring issue, the artstyle was so noticeably off model to accommodate for more exaggerated expressions, but I personally think it's to its detriment. Daffy's expressions were so overwhelmingly sleezy and gross to look at, and Bugs did have cursed expressions too. Like their expressions during the massage sequence were awful.
Tumblr media
Also the set up of Daffy having an uncle he doesn't like in the intro segment, only to have Bugs drop him off to live with his uncle just so he could be left alone with Scarlet Johansson was so douchey on Bugs' part. Even when Daffy can be an asshole, it's implied that Daffy has a sour background with his family and past, so leaving him to an uncle he vaguely dislikes is in bad taste. And that's how it ends.
The episode kinda gives the same salty vibes as the shorts where Daffy is unquestionably Bugs' adversary and we're supposed to unquestionably dislike Daffy and be in favour of Bugs. It's so unfaithful to portray Daffy so poorly, just so I feel that his comeuppance is deserving. And even then, Bugs seemed so douchey in this one too so I don't want to root for anyone. Tlts Bugs can have his douche moments, but he still does show some form of care for Daffy, even in the episodes where he acts more callous.
Tl;dr: the artstyle looked awful, the pacing was incompatible with episode runtime, Daffy wasn't funny and just unlikeable, and the episode hurts the main draw of the show (Bugs' and Daffy's relationship) which according to the showrunners, was what they wanted to prioritise focus on for the making of the show. And with all this in mind, it's no wonder we don't see this kind of portrayal of their dynamic in any other episode in this show.
Tumblr media
Present day thoughts:
I know that back then I was very passionate about my visceral dislike of this episode. But yeah... the fact this was ramble number 2 is quite silly. Sorry for my previous post's false assurance that the road to essay length rambles would be gradual.
And yeah, I now know this episode's writing was meant to be the pilot for Laff Riot. Frankly, I think we dodged a bullet.

The LotR movies don’t really have great casting. People who didn’t read the book before seeing the films have had their views shaped by the films, but most of the characters are little like their book counterparts (and the script doesn’t help). And only some of the actors in the main roles were actually outstanding performers. Viggo, for one, and his career shows this. But Sean Astin? Elijah Wood? What have they done since LotR? So many people are blinded by nostalgia.
Oh, anon, you really want me to get hounded, don't you? I have already gotten kill yourself anons recently, no need to add more fuel to the fire XD
The thing with casting is that, like hair, is almost inevitably a product of its time and the trends of what is seen as attractive or representative at some point or another, and it ages much more easily than other things, while being very difficult to escape from in the moment. We are all children of our own times.
One of my favorite games to play with people is "cast LotR, but it is the 90s", which has led to the creation of some good and some hilarious ideas (my favorite LOL idea is Richard Gere as Aragorn and Julia Roberts as Arwen).
I also don't really measure talent in terms of how much work or not the actors do after something. Trini Alvarado, for example, I think is a great actress, and some amazing actors just don't make it big in Hollywood because their priorities are elsewhere or they aren't willing to compromise things they think are important (this is the case for several British actors that just prefer the stage or doing small things).
So, in general I think the casting is good because it doesn't take me out (well, Orlando Bloom's Legolas does, and so does David Wenham), some of these actors do pull off some extremely silly lines (seriously, the fact that audiences don't end up hating Gimli by the end is a testament to John Rhys-Davies talent), and it doesn't heavily fall on "star studded cast for clout" (there are notably big actors like Christopher Lee, Ian Mckellen and John Noble, sure, but it's not done for the whole main cast or most of it).
Sure, there are bad things about it. People have mentioned, for example, the heavy bias towards very white and blond actors for characters that are canonically darker, and the pirates, who should look like the people of Gondor are turned into poc because it was the early 2000s and there's an arabic panic in the US. It's ridiculous that Pippin's actor was 13 years older than Frodo's actor (in fact, Elijah Wood was the youngest of the quartet). I would have definitely liked an actor with more gravitas for the role of Aragorn, but Viggo Mortensen fits the character they went for in the movies.
"It's not bad casting because it could have been infinitely worse" doesn't sound like that much of a defense, but I think it's more important than it sounds. The casting is not perfect, but it is memorable and does carry the movies in a way, unlike the writing (which is the starting point of this discussion).
