as you sobbed endlessly, trying to wipe your tears even if you knew damn well more would just fall.
you looked at your state in the mirror. hair covering your face, tears sobbing and your body on the edge of falling down. what a horrible sight you thought.
as you started to calm yourself down, you could here voices coming to the washroom, you quickly fled to one of the cubicles, putting your hand to shush your hiccups.
did you hear one of our classmates a while ago? they were shouting at scaramouche! imagine having the audacity to do such a thing..
doesn't scaramouche have a girlfriend already?
he has a what now? their words were muted as you started to quietly sob again. though, you could hear the door shut. making you exit the cubicle.
you looked at yourself in the mirror once more. you wouldn't care, right? no. you've had a crush on scaramouche for who knows how long and now he suddenly has a girlfriend.?
you washed your face, trying to make sure no signs of the fact you cried was shown.
closing the door to the bathroom, your eyes met with another friend of yours, columbia.
"ah, y/n.. um, are you okay? you looked like you just cr-" "oh it's nothing! i.. gotta get to class now. see ya!" you ran to your classroom once more. trying to forget everything that had happened in the past hour.
Tumblr media
"class dismissed." your teacher spoke out loud as she left the classroom, leaving everyone packing up their backpacks since the next period was everyone's last.
while everyone was packing, you were just sitting in your chair. you couldn't even forget the events that happened in the bathroom.. and before that.
you would be lying if you were to say that you weren't jealous of whoever was scaramouche's girlfriend.
the worst part now was you knew he wasn't going to talk to you after what happened. both of you needed space anyway.
but was this really a good thing.?
it had to be. taking a break from the one you loved the most. taking a break from your childhood friend since diapers. taking a break from someone.. from someone who shattered your heart into pieces.
you wanted to cry again but it felt like you couldn't. as if all the tears you used were all used.
deciding to do the better option, you packed your backpack and went out of the classroom. not giving your friends a single glance. you could feel them staring at you but the feeling brushed down after a few seconds of walking.
Tumblr media
once you reached the gate of your school, you noticed scaramouche and his friends talking. you could pretty much hear them since one of them was insanely loud.
"oh c'mon scaramouche! live a little! just hook up with this girl.."
their words were muted as you started to feel a heartbreaking feeling in your chest again.
maybe the rumors were true, of scaramouche and his new 'girlfriend'. maybe you just weren't meant for each other. he looks so much happier with his new friends. for sake, he doesn't even look like the scaramouche you knew.
you just decided to run home. not noticing scaramouche's eyes glancing at you.
Tumblr media
once you arrived at the door of your home. you noticed scaramouche's mother, ei, at the door. talking to someone on the phone. you decided to go to her and have a chat.
"yes, indeed.. it is pretty tragic. i mean- hold on a second miko." ei spoke as she looked at you with surprised eyes. "ah! y/n, great to see you again. is it alright if i just finish this call?" you nodded at her response and just sat down at one of the chairs displayed outside.
you could hear ei saying her goodbyes to whoever she was talking to and inviting you inside. it also seemed that she wanted to have a chat..
she closed the door as you removed your shoes and placed your backpack on the floor. ei asked you to sit down on the table, and you did.
"y/n.. i've been wanting to talk to you about this." ei said in a concerning voice. "kuni- uhm, scaramouche. has he been different to you in any ways these past few days?"
you looked at her and slowly nodded. "yes, he has actually. he doesn't really keep his promises anymore.. nor does he schedule any of our weekly hangouts."
ei sighed as she put her hands on her lap. "he has new friends and i am proud of him for that but i have been noticing you both haven't been interacting as much as usual. did something happen?" she asked in a concerning voice.
"well.. yes. we had a fight earlier at school and i pretty much cried by whole heart out." you spoke as you felt your eyes getting blurry and wanting to cry again.
"is it alright if you tell me? i completely understand if you don't want to." ei said as she patted your shoulder.
you hesitated at first but took all the details from earlier and told her to ei. it somewhat felt like ei was such a good mother figure, you couldn't figure out why she and scaramouche didn't get along as much when he was younger.
"i knew that this day would somewhat come.." ei mumbled as she scratched her head.
"what do you mean mrs. raiden?" you looked at her with curious eyes.
"well, when both you and scaramouche met, i had a feeling that he would snap at you at one point. in this case, it was today." she sighed before continuing. "though, no need to worry. it is best for you both to take a break from each other. if you were to just want to interact with him more, it may make him snap at you again."
you understood her every detail. maybe taking a break was the best option. you bid goodbye to ei as you got your backpack and went to your home.
you laid down on the couch, looking at the picture frame of you and scaramouche as kids. you couldn't help but notice the small droplets of tears staining the frame.
maybe sometimes there is no why. it just happens suddenly.

The reception began as soon as you were taken to the next room.
When you entered the venue of the reception, it was just as beautiful as the wedding venue, but this time it’s an open-air room that shows you the beautiful gardens of the Grand Goth Hotel. The decoration used is just the same as the one in the ceremony, however, this room includes round tables surrounding a dancefloor where the host and those with speeches will talk on as well as where people can dance on. Behind the roundtables includes another set of tables
Thankfully the assigned tables are based on the ones from the joint bachelor party, so your tablemates are Tartaglia, Scaramouche, Ei, Miko, Zhongli, and to your shock, Diluc.
You were surprised when you found out you and Diluc are at the same table, who’s just as surprised about it, especially when you two are right beside each other.
You proceed to introduce him to your tablemates besides Zhongli and Tartaglia, who apparently met the wine tycoon before through business. You’re not sure what’s going on between the two of them, but if it weren’t for the happy occasion right now, you can’t imagine having to go through the tense atmosphere that was radiating around the table, much to Miko’s amusement and to Zhongli’s concern.
He got along well with both Ei and Miko, who mutually respect him for his hardwork and for treating you so well (something they didn’t dare mention, even though Miko wanted to). Scaramouche is… Scaramouche and only let out a scoff in response. If anything, it’s better than him insulting Diluc straight away like he always does when he meets other people. Is it because of Diluc’s title and business? Or is it something else…? You’re not really sure, but your new friend didn’t seem to mind Scaramouche's attitude.
As the party begins, you find yourself in your own little world with Diluc, talking about so many things that you haven’t talked about back in the bachelor party, not noticing the teasing glances Miko and Ei shoot in your direction as you chat with him.
The conversation between you two comes as they go all the while the party goes on, from talking about your careers to embarrassing stories Diluc has in mind about Venti being drunk and to talking about each other’s lands while eating your meals.
“Oh you should definitely go see Watatsumi Island – the place is so different from the other lands of Inazuma, and their beaches are worth seeing! They also have the best aquarium, they even have a restaurant there where you can watch the fishes.” You suggested.
“Have you been there before?” He asks.
You shake your head in response. “Not yet, unfortunately. By the time the aquarium was finished and was open for business, I was already in Liyue.” Now that you think about it, your homesick has been growing lately – not that you’d tell him of course.
He nods slowly. “...I could tak–”
“And that’s all for the speeches from our dear special guests, let us give another round of applause!” You instantly flinched when you heard the emcee talking out of nowhere, only to giggle when you see Diluc’s spooked reaction from the sudden volume.
“I’m sorry, what were you saying?” You asked.
Diluc fixes himself, clearing his throat. “I… was asking if you have any more things to say about Inazuma. I’m interested to know more.” He replied.
Your eyes brighten. “I’d be delighted to tell you more – only if you tell me more about Mondstadt too.”
He nods in agreement. “If that’s what you wish, then I’ll keep my word.”
You grinned. “You better!”
As soon as you finished talking about Inazuma as well as your meal, Diluc in return told you many things about Mondstadt that you actually haven’t even heard of. Not only did he tell you the best places to go to besides the infamous tourist destinations, but also the best places and foods you could try out of.  His explanation truly made you all the more fall in love with the nation.
You could tell how much he cares so much about his home from the way his lips twitch upward, as well as the passion that seems to spark in his eyes.
Speaking of his eyes, you can’t help but notice how you’re now able to see him a bit more closely, catching features that you didn’t seem to see from your previous encounters with your friend. Have his eyes always been this fiery? What cologne did he use? His jawline is–
“Are you alright?” Your thoughts are instantly cut off by his question, causing you to blink a few times and realize that you haven’t been listening to him for a few minutes.
You feel a little bit flustered from your sudden thoughts, clearing your throat a bit. “O-Oh yes, yes. Sorry, I was just…” You glance around the room in a panic, unsure what excuse to use. “...Admiring the garden outside!” You quickly spoke, laughing a little in hopes that he bought your words.
Diluc looks at where the garden is, believing your words completely. “I see.. Is it truly as wonderful as they say?”
Your eyes widened from his question. “Wait, you haven’t been there yet?”
He nodded. “I.. don’t exactly see any point in visiting there when I have other matters to do. It’s nothing bad–”
“Why don’t you tell me all about Mondstadt’s flowers there? I was meaning to take another stroll there when I have the chance.” You suggest, eyes twinkling.
To your delight, Diluc accepts your proposal. “I don’t mind. Would you like to go there now?”
You check around the venue for a moment, noticing how the emcees and wedding couple are busy eating their meals. “Yup, I’m sure the next part of the reception won’t start in a bit.”
You then look at your other tablemates, who seem to be busy in their conversations. “We’ll go visit the garden for some fresh air. We’ll be back in a while!”
“Alright, take care.” Zhongli responds. “I’ll come find you when the next part of the reception starts.”
You smile in gratitude. “Thanks, Zhongli.”
When you look back at where Diluc is, he’s already standing from his seat, offering you his hand for you to hold. “Shall we?”
It took you a few seconds before you grabbed his hand before standing up. “We shall.”
As you two walk away towards the nearest entry to the garden, Miko and Ei glance at one another with teasing looks.
As you two are on your way, you failed to notice a certain man who’s been staring at you for quite a while, and not in a good way.
By the time you two step foot outside, you gasp aloud at the sight of the beautiful garden archway you’re in, awed by the sight of it.
Despite the room being open-air that shows the garden, there were only at least three entryways that lead you to the area. The one that happens to be the nearest to your table is the one with the garden archway, which is one of the things you haven’t managed to explore yet until now.
While the garden at day gives off an enchanting sight that makes you feel as if you’re in an enchanted forest, the garden at night gives off a mystical sight that makes you feel as if you’re in a blissful dream you wouldn’t want to wake up from.
The garden archway is filled with a lot of flowers, be it cecilias, windwheel asters, calla lilies, as well as small lamp grass that seems to lightly chime.
“It’s so beautiful..!” You comment in awe, not being able to look at where Diluc is as you continue to look around the place.
“Indeed.” He quietly agrees. “..Would you like me to tell you about these flowers now?”
You turned around at where the man was, nodding eagerly. “Do tell!”
As soon as Diluc finished covering the topics about the flowers the both of you encountered in the garden, you proceeded to talk for hours and hours with other topics to talk about while you went back to the garden archway.
If anyone were to come here and catch you two, they’d surely mistaken you two as a couple for being so close to one another.
“Ah, so you mix other kinds of drinks besides alcohol? What’s the first drink you made?”
Diluc thinks about it for a moment. “Gray Valley Sunset. I made it when I was still quite young back then.”
You listen to his words intently. “Care to tell me more?”
He lets out an amused chuckle. “Alright… I guess it won’t hurt to tell you about it. My father laid out several ingredients and told me to experiment with them – I assume he just wanted to test my creativity since there was no requirements and instruction.”
“And you chose to do a fruit punch… Why?” You ask curiously.
He shrugs. “I didn’t really put much thought into it. I just figured that it would taste… sweet, per say.”
“How did your father react?”
He shrugs once again. “I’m not quite sure. Besides being surprised, he didn’t say a word at that time.”
You nod, letting out an “ah” sound. “I see… So what– oh be careful!”
You suddenly find yourself holding onto the back of Diluc’s outfit as soon as he accidentally stepped on a bump from the ground, causing him to stumble a bit.
“Are you alright, Diluc?” You ask worriedly, looking at your friend’s face, who appears to look shocked from the sudden incident— or as what the man considers it as: an embarrassing incident.
“O-Oh I didn't wrinkle your suit, did I?” You ask once again in panic, watching as he fixes his now slightly wrinkled suit.
He immediately clears his throat, hoping you wouldn’t notice a hint of red dusting in his ears. “It’s alright, no worries. Thank you for the help.”
You sigh in relief. “It’s no problem. I’m glad I was able to catch you before you could fall.”
“I must say.. You’re quite strong.” He comments, impressed.
You laughed, cheeks slightly going warm from the compliment. “Why thank you.”
The two of you then proceeded to continue chatting along, though a bit flustered from the incident. You would be lying if you said you aren’t flustered, especially when he complimented your strength for being able to hold him back.
It took perhaps a lot of minutes until you two realize it’s time for you to go back to the venue.
“Ah, we should try one of the desserts in the buffet once we get back! Which one’s the best dessert Mondstadt has in your opinion?” You ask.
“Not that I have one in mind since they’re exceptionally good in their own ways.” He answers honestly. “I’m sure you’ll be able to find one that you like the mos–”
“( Name ), Diluc–”
You yelp in surprise when someone suddenly enters your conversations out of nowhere, causing you to hold onto the nearest thing in fear (a habit you gained when watching horror movies with Ei and Miko),
And unfortunately, the nearest “thing” is Diluc.
“...”
“...”
“...”
“...I apologize for scaring you, ( Name ).” Zhongli breaks the silence, giving you an apologetic and sheepish smile. “It seems I wasn’t aware that I’d scare you from my sudden appearance. I came here to tell you that the next part of the reception is coming.”
Once you realize the culprit is none other than your dearest friend and plus one, it hits you in the face when it dawns on you the position you placed yourself in.
You. are. hugging. Diluc’s. arm.
…Oh
You quickly move yourself away from the man, who was silent the whole time. You can’t tell what he’s thinking since you can’t tell what expression he’s making on his face, so it makes you all the more embarrassed that you put yourself in this situation!
“S-Sorry, I was scared for a moment.” You stated, clearing your throat as you fix your composure. “We should uh, go back then. Right, Zhongli?”
He nodded in agreement. “After you then.”
Without another word, you walk back to the garden archway, slightly fanning your incredibly warm face as Zhongli is left with Diluc, who’s still standing motionlessly trying to process what just happened.
“Shall we go, Mr. Ragnvindr?” The brown-haired man’s voice manages to wake the other man up from his trance, who immediately looks away from his gaze and starts walking. “..Yes, we shall.”
If Zhongli had looked close enough, he might’ve been able to spot a tint of light red on Diluc’s ears.
If the incident earlier didn’t fluster you both much, this one did.
By the time you three finally enter the reception venue from the garden, the emcee is already standing on the stage with a smile, ready to have the show go on. “I hope everyone had a good time with their meals and partners! This time, we’ll….”
You’re really glad you weren’t somewhere in front of where the tables are facing, so no one noticed you at all.
Well, almost all of them.
While on your way towards your table nearby, you can’t help but feel as if someone’s watching you. You glance around the room to look for anyone who’s looking at your direction, only to find no one. Is it my imagination then…? You curiously thought.
You then look back at where Diluc and Zhongli are, who seem to be unbothered and not feeling the same. It’s probably my imagination, you thought to yourself.
As soon as you’re back to your seat, Miko and Ei greet you happily.  “Took you long enough to get back. Ei and I wanted to tell you how delicious the desserts in the buffet are.” Miko said, causing your eyes to brighten at the mention of desserts.
“Really? I don’t know which ones to get… Should I get them now?” You ask, looking around to find where the desserts are served.
“If you like… I could get some for you.” Diluc spoke up, causing you to look at him in surprise. “I was meaning to get a dessert of my own as well, you can stay here and talk with your friends seeing how our conversations led you to not be able to talk to them tonight.”
“Oh it’s no trouble, Dil–” Before you could finish, Miko instantly chimes in with a glint of mischief in her eyes. “You may proceed, Mr. Ragnvindr. Ei and I have so many things to talk about with ( Name ) here, I’m sure you have good taste and would give my dear friend here some delicious desserts to eat.” You look at where Miko is with knitted eyebrows. Seriously?
“I could go with you.” You offered, looking at Diluc with a small frown.
He gives you an assuring look. “It’s alright. I’m sure you must’ve been exhausted from our long walk in the garden.”
“Aren’t you exhausted as well?” You retorted.
He shakes his head. “No need to worry about me, I’m not exhausted. I’ll be back in a while.”
Without another word, he walks away to get some desserts, leaving you alone with your tablemates, who are busy talking to one another (it surprised you to see Scaramouche talking with Childe and Zhongli) besides Ei and Miko.
“Now, care to tell us some details about what happened?” The pink-haired woman brought up with a sly smile as Ei continues to munch on her food. “There’s got to be some juicy moment between you two! I could feel the heat of your cheeks from here, hehe.”
You instantly feel your cheeks warm up once again when Miko brings it up, suddenly remembering the incident.
This is going to be one hell of a reception.
You didn’t exactly mention the moment when you hold onto Diluc’s arm, knowing that they’d tease you and remind you about it forever. You only mentioned your long conversations and the incident of you holding him back from falling – much to their delight (unfortunately).
By the time Diluc comes back, you instantly fall in love with the desserts he brought and abandoned your conversation with your two dearest friends much to their dismay, thanking him enthusiastically before inspecting all the foods in front of you.Your mouth begins to water from the delicious sight and start eating them all one by one, much to Diluc’s amusement.
Eating the foods given to you was enough for you to slowly forget about the dreadful feeling of being watched. You also decided to start watching the performances with the rest of your tablemates, who are all enraptured by the sight of the wedding couple performing their first dance.
It was certainly a sight indeed, finding yourself enraptured as well. Not only were Ayato and Chisato in sync, but they were also moving through the dance floor effortlessly with such grace. It’s as if they’re perfect for one another.
When will you ever experience that?
“It’s a beautiful performance, isn’t it?” You murmured, taking a bite of one of your desserts.
Diluc hums, watching the performance as well. “It is.”
You then look away from the wedding couple dancing, your eyes are now on the red-haired man as you swallow your food. “Do you dance?”
He turns away from the performance as well, now looking at you in curiosity. “I suppose I’m not particularly fond of it. How about you?”
You shrug, smiling cheekily. “Not particularly fond either, but I don’t mind dancing for my wedding.”
Diluc nods slowly. He can’t help but imagine what it would be like if you’re dancing in the middle of the dance floor instead of Ayato and Chisato. Would you be laughing at words your spouse tells you? Would you be as happy as you seem to be back in the garden?
For some reason, he can’t help but imagine him being the one to dance with you.
What are you thinking? Diluc harshly thought to himself, pushing his thoughts about you away.
By the time the show is over, you’re finally done with your desserts. “Ah, I have to thank you again for introducing me to these lovely desserts, Diluc.” You comment, leaning back on your chair with a hum. “They’re all so delicious, no wonder why you don’t exactly have any preferences on them!”
“I’m glad you like it.” He replies, finished with his dessert as well. “Would you like me to get you more?”
You shook your head in response with a smile. “Ah no need, I’m already so full.” You then slowly stand up. “I’ll just go wash my hands, I’ll be back.”
“Take care.” Diluc said.
As you walk away towards the comfort room that’s by the back of the room, you can’t help but shiver when you feel the same feeling as when you were going back to your table from the garden, cautiously glancing around the room in confusion.
Again, there was no one who was looking at you.
You sigh, shaking your head to yourself. It’s not like something bad will happen to me in public, you thought, trying to reason with your anxious thoughts.
And you were right, nothing bad happened in front of the whole crowd.
Because it happened when you were still in the private waiting area that’s outside the comfort room.
As soon as you walked out after washing your hands, you caught sight of Chisato’s father standing by the private waiting area with an unexplainable look on his face.
“Good evening.” You greeted him with a small smile, passing by the man thinking that’s the end of it. Or so you thought.
“You’re ( Name ) ( Last Name ), correct?”
Your eyes slightly widen in surprise. How does he know your name?  “...Yes I am.”
He huffs in response, his expression still unexplainable. “What’s your relationship with the wedding couple?”
You slightly knit your eyebrows in confusion, answering his question hesitantly. “I’m an old friend of the groom back in college.”
“Old friend, eh?” He mumbles.
Seeing how the atmosphere got tense, you try to not beat around the bush, wanting to get this over with and come back to your table. “...Can I help you with anything, Mr. Hiiragi?”
“Oh I don’t need help from someone like you.” He spoke.
You felt taken back from how vile his tone is. Did I do something wrong? You wondered. “..I’m sorry?”
“I’m here to make sure everything is right in my way. I’ve seen you with my daughter back in the bachelor’s party, I bet you’re here to ruin the wedding and spread the word about her breakdown, aren’t you?” Shinsuke explains.
You can’t help but gasp at his accusation. “I wouldn’t do such a thing! Chisato is a good friend, why would I do something like that?”
“As if I would believe that! I don’t know who on Earth you think you are– barging into my daughter’s privacy, watching her cry about this marriage, and potentially intend to destroy this wedding to embarrass me!”
You shook your head profusely. “Of course not, Mr. Hiiragi! You got it all wrong!”
“How dare you talk back to me–!”
“Is there something wrong, Mr. Hiiragi?”
You can’t help but sigh in relief when you hear someone entering the area, only to find Ayato himself, who is standing in front of the doorway with a surprised look on his face.
Shinsuke grits his teeth. “Nothing wrong happened, Ayato. I’m just putting someone in their right place and reminding them.”
The groom glances at your direction before looking back at his father in law. “..I see… I would like to let you know that your daughter’s looking for you to dance with her.”
Hearing about his daughter, the elder’s face instantly switches. “Ah, is that so? What kind of a father would I be if I were to reject a dance?” He laughs before walking away towards the exit. “Thank you for letting me know, Ayato.”
Before going back to the party venue, Shinsuke suddenly looks at you with a warning look and leaves, leaving Ayato to deal with you.
“...”
“...”
You slowly look away from Ayato’s gaze and look down at the ground, shaken up from your conversation with the angered man.
“..Are you okay?” The groom asks worriedly. “He.. He didn’t hurt you, did he?”
You shook your head in response, not being able to find the words to speak up.
Meanwhile, Ayato was having complicated thoughts, unsure what to do to make you feel comfortable since he wants to respect your wish in leaving you alone as well as wanting to comfort you from whatever Shinsuke said to you.
“...Thank you for helping me.” You spoke up, looking up at the man you once fell in love with. “I… I’m not sure why he was mad, did… Did he know? About us?”
He shook his head. “I made sure that won’t happen. He would’ve taken action on you had I not broken up with you.”
You frowned. So this is what he had to deal with for the past few years?
“...Is that why you broke up with me? To save me from.. Him?”
He paused for a moment, and nodded in sadness. “Forgive me for making such a decision. It’s best for me to not say a word to prevent you from involving yourself in this situation”
This is just all too sudden… “Just how dangerous is he?”
Ayato feels unsure whether it’s best to keep it a secret, but decides to tell the truth. “Enough to be able to get his hands dirty and get away with it.”
You felt chills run down your spine, thinking of the worst possible ways the conversation you had with Shinsuke could’ve ended with if Ayato hadn’t intervened.
Noticing your shaken up look, the man quickly reassures you. “I don’t want you to worry about Shinsuke. As far as I know, he’s only concerned about the fact that you’d spread rumors – he doesn’t know about you and I being… exes.”
You weren’t bothered by how he referred to you both as exes, but you could tell this was his first time saying it from how he winced at the term. “I understand. Thank you again, Ayato.”
“It’s no problem. If you’d like, you can leave the party if you feel uncomfortable to be out there.” He offers.
You shook your head reassuringly. “It’s… It’s fine. I can stay for a while.”
“If that’s what you want, then feel free to do so. I suggest you to not be alone for the next few days until you go home. I will make sure Mr. Hiiragi won’t do anything to come to you, so in the meantime, go stick with your plus one for the whole night.” Ayato stated.
“I.. I think I’ll be fine since I have Diluc and my friends.. They’ve been my company throughout the party.” You explained, mentally hoping your friends would stay for the whole night and not leave so soon.
You failed to notice how Ayato’s eyebrows slightly furrowed from your words.
“...If… I may ask, do you know about Mr. Ragnvindr’s–”
“There you are, Ayato!”
The both of you flinch when you hear someone else’s voice chiming in the conversation, only to realize it was Thoma, who just entered the room. “It’s time for you to come back–” Before he finished his words, the best man instantly noticed you standing behind Ayato, causing his eyes to brighten. “O-Oh hi ( Name )!”
You smile timidly at your friend, waving at him. “Hi, Thoma. Enjoying the role of being the best man, I bet?”
He smiles back. “Sure did! We should go back now since we need Ayato for the next part of the reception – will you be joining the dance floor later, ( Name )?”
You immediately shook your head. “Oh I don’t think I will, I don’t think I can dance from how much I’ve eaten tonight.”
Thoma laughed. “I don’t blame you, the food really is yummy.”
Before Ayato gets dragged by his best friend, he looks at you one last time. “Let me know if you need any help. It’s the least I can do as an acquaintance.” He whispers.
“Thanks again.” You whispered back gratefully.
The three of you then walk out from the room, going back to your separate ways towards your tables. You quickly notice the sight of Shinsuke dancing with his daughter by the dance floor, giving each other smiles that you assume is nothing but fake.
You tensed when his eyes landed on yours for only a short moment.
Everything’s fine, he won’t hurt me here in public. You thought to yourself, finally arriving at your table.
“Did you finish washing your hands?” Miko spoke up as soon as she saw you. “I wouldn’t be surprised if I come to the comfort room and see that the handwash is empty. What took you so long?”
You laughed lightly at your friend’s comment, your shoulders began to relax. “Oh please, the line was just long.” You lied, sitting down next to Diluc. “What did I miss?”
“You only missed the beginning of the father-daughter dance.” He responds. “Is everything alright?”
You glance at where Shinsuke is dancing, feeling a bit relieved that he’s not looking at you at the moment anymore. As long as you’re with either Diluc or with anyone else, you won’t have to deal with Chisato’s father. “...Yeah, everything’s fine.”
You then look at where Ayato is, who’s currently watching the dance with a fake smile plastered on his face, causing your small smile to slowly fade away. Just thinking about what Shinsuke must’ve done to Ayato for the past few years made your heart sink further than you’d like.
Whatever it is… You could only hope he and Chisato will finally be free from that cruel man.
Another hour had slowly passed with more performances and a bit of games. The incident with Shinsuke went to the back of your mind as you found yourself having fun with all of your friends and Diluc, who’s been your company ever since the two of you saw each other at the wedding ceremony.
By the time the reception’s almost at its end, you feel a bit disappointed.
“I don’t want this night to be over already.” You commented out of nowhere, sighing heavily as you watch Ei, Miko, and other ladies standing near the stage as Chisato prepares to throw the bouquet from behind. You’ll definitely miss the food..
Diluc looks away from the emcee to look at you. “Oh? How about leaving the hotel after this? Mondstadt usually closes by a late hour as soon as the streets are completely empty of people.”
“Really?” You ask, surprised. “You’re going to go out with me tonight then?”
The red-haired man’s eyes widened, did you perhaps mistake his suggestion as him hanging out with you around the city to have fun?
Nevertheless, he didn’t find the heart to correct you about it.
“....Would you like to?”
Before you could answer, you suddenly felt something fall on your lap and onto the floor, causing you to let out a yelp as people gasp aloud.
When you look down at the object, your eyes widens at the sight of Chisato’s bouquet on your feet.
This is gotta be a joke….!
You look at Diluc, who seems to be shaking— is he trying not to laugh at you?!
“Looks like you should start looking for someone to marry already, ( Name ).” Miko teased you, giggling shamelessly. “Ei and I will send our wedding gift in advance to you.”
“Oh shut up!”

I have an idea for request : Imagine being Ei's S/O, but you died along with her sister, a thousand years later, you've been reincarcinated again but you don't remember your memories from the past and its heartbreaking because you don't remember being Ei's S/O. Suddenly you fell in love with one of the inazuma girls (Yae Miko, Ayaka, Yoimiya, Kokomi) and your dating them, BUT Ei sees you dating one of them leaving her heartbroken on the sidelines. Take your time and rest when you need to <3
Initially Being Ei’s Lover, Reincarnated as Her Lover
Characters: Yae Miko, Ayaka, Yoimiya, Kokomi x gn!reader
Warnings: none
A/n: Yo does this title make sense? I hope it does heehee, I had a difficult time summarizing it
Nevertheless I think this idea is super unique 🥺 I really like the difference of each woman and how I can reform each story uniquely based on which one I’m writing for
Tumblr media
• Yae Miko was unrelentless with her decision to court you. Being Ei’s familiar she knew her like the palm of her hand, she knew her lovers, her friends, her family. So when she decided to get romantic with you she knew what she was doing, it wasn’t a mere mistake.
• She knew your impact on Ei’s life, when you died it broke her. Miko was there to comfort her, reassuring her there’d be a day that you’d reincarnate and show your face again. However, what she didn’t expect was to catch feelings for you when she saw your reincarnation.
• Even though Miko was aware of what she was doing was a horrible thing, she still had some sense of shame. She tried her best to hide the fact that she discovered your charming reincarnation. She would sometimes excuse herself to do whatever in her office, only to flee in your arms unknown to anyone else.
Miko was well aware that her little secret would tarnish her relationship with Ei for probably all of eternity. She bit her thumbnail not wanting to create any animosity against her and her recent refound friend. She had to check behind her every corner she turned as she had just excused herself from the tea session she shared with the Shogun. She knew it was risky, but she promised to meet with you today, not wanting you to get any hints of your past life either as you played a significant role.
She discovered your hidden figure behind a tree at the bottom of the Narukami Shrine, sneaking behind you. “Boo~,” she said before flinching at you to scare you. “How have you been my little mouse?” She teased you. You couldn’t put your finger on it, but it was suspiciously comforting whenever Miko called you by your nickname.
“I wouldn’t ever dream of it,” you played into her hands. Blissfully unaware that Miko used to call you little mouse as a playful term whenever she’d enter Ei’s chambers and find you two flirting. That was until a shadow showed itself behind a tree, a purple-haired womanly figure.
It was more shocking as it was the Shogun herself. Your eyes bulging that she of all people showed herself to what Miko liked to call your ‘secret midnight strolls’. Miko brought herself to attention when she realized you two were not alone. Taking a deep breath as she braced herself for the truth of her disgusting actions.
Miko wrapped herself around your arm, “Miko? What is the meaning of this?” Ei had asked in pure disbelief. You know her connections to the big politicians of Inazuma. The Shogun’s presence could only be explained by Miko’s deviance.
You too were curious as to what the meaning of this was, completely in the dark of the past that you might’ve held. Looking at Miko with puppy dog eyes, she returned your stare with a pitiful look. “It’s nothing, my love,” she covered your ears with her hands so you couldn’t hear anything, bracing herself for Ei to learn to cold truth of her betrayal, but still in denial about you learning the truth.
She pulled you into her chest, blocking not just your hearing, but your sense of sight too. Although you were curious, something in your blood told you to accept her warm hold, it would be best for you to not address the inexplicable yearning you felt for the Shogun who you’ve just seen for the first time in your life.
Tumblr media
• Ayaka had seen you briefly whenever she took a trip to the City, trying to hide her harsh blush. Although she hid with her fan, her presence was very obvious to you. You too found her very appealing, Ayaka’s womanly charm getting the best of you. It didn’t take you too long to get acquainted with each other as more than friends.
• Ayaka had no awareness of your relationship with Ei in your past life. But sometimes she’d see the Shogun’s mysterious figure pop up while you two dated casually. Within the last week, her gaze had met the Shogun’s more than it has her entire life.
• Ayaka believed in reincarnation, she has seen many stories of history that proved its existence of it. But never did she suspect you’d be none other than the reincarnation of the Shogun’s former lover. She did, however, get a sense that what she was doing was a transgression against her.
To Ei, Ayaka was nothing but a loyal subject to her, she saw no threat in her as she was one of the Kamisato siblings. That was until she saw her trailing the streets of Inazuma city with an all-too-familiar face, she had to take a double-take. You clung to her arm as you opened the door to the tea house owned by the Yashiro Commission.
She had never stepped foot inside, but she wanted to confirm who you really were. You shared the face of her past lover, waiting for you to reincarnate one day so that she could reunite. She prayed you weren’t who she thought you were, she would have to pry you from the hands of that poor young girl.
She swung the door open, marching her way inside looking left to right. There she saw you two walking down the long hallway, the dog Taroumaru growling at her. She gave one stern look to make it whimper, following closely behind you two.
Sneaking behind the sliding door she peaked into the room of the tea house knowing what she was doing would make her look crazy. Hearing you two giggle. That gleeful laugh that she hadn’t heard in centuries, it couldn’t have just been a coincidence. Peering in the room where you were, her heart was struck with hope and sadness at the same time. To see you with another woman, had you forgotten all your memories together? There would be no way you’d intentionally betray her.
Ei didn’t make a single move, but you felt daggers being stared into the back of your head. You noticed some mysterious presence, looking back as you saw strangely nothing. Ei hiding behind the screen door, she couldn’t afford for you to see her just yet. “Is something the matter, love?” Ayaka asked you snapping you from your trance.
“Mmm- nothing,” you replied casually. You knew something was wrong, feeling drawn to see who was there. Shaking the feeling off you redrew your attention to the woman in front of you. Her beauty was unmatched in your heart.
Tumblr media
• Yoimiya was just a girl who ran a family firework business, she had no comprehension of who she had just romanced. The thing she expected the least was the fact that you were the almighty shogun’s lover. She just liked the way you stared at fireworks so gracefully.
• Yoimiya would be shocked when the Shogun herself personally showed herself at the Nagonahara Fireworks, usually if she wanted to request a certain show she’d have an attendant do so. Even then she had initially believed the Shogun hated fireworks, the very essence of them being the opposite of eternity.
• Yoimiya thought the idea of reincarnation was a beautiful thought, she believed in it, but it was just a fleeting thought. She never imagined that she’d be coupled with someone who would make her actions so controversial.
It was only a moment, Yoimiya and you watched her fireworks together above a hill. She got a little too excited and trailed off to get a better look, leaving you to watch her silhouette. Suddenly you felt a hand, turning around to face a tall woman, slim in the figure, her hair down to her legs in a loose braid. She looked concerned, “I’m sorry, do I know you?” You asked her.
Her concern turned into her worst fear. “You don’t remember me?” She asked you. Just a moment ago you were sure you’d never seen this woman before in your life. But after she asked that question, you weren’t sure either. Have you met this woman before, she drew a feeling from you that you’ve never felt before, even with Yoimiya.
“I- I’m not sure,” was all you managed to say. Another hand yanking your arm from the strange lady. Yoimiya held you protectively, scared of the woman before you. It didn’t take you long to realize this unrecognizable woman was the Shogun, maybe that’s why you felt like you had seen her before. Brushing aside any feelings you had for her, only focusing on Yoimiya.
“Excuse us,” Yoimiya said uncomfortably. It must’ve been that she still felt uneasy from the Vision Hunt Decree, Yoimiya and the Shogun hadn’t had many interactions, this being one of the few. You both descended from the hill, leaving the Shogun alone atop of it looking down in a mixture of shame and disbelief.
You knew you shouldn’t have, after all, you already had a loving girlfriend. But you had to look back just once at the lonely woman. You normally would’ve felt creeped out from the encounter, but you felt your soul reaching out for her. Your body drawn naturally towards her. You’d never admit it because you’d never do anything to intentionally hurt Yoimiya, but it felt like love at first sight.
Tumblr media
• Kokomi had no idea who she was getting involved with. She’s read books from her ancestors of the Sangonomiya shrine of Ei and her past lover who had died in the archon war, but she never connected the dots. Thinking you acted independently of your historical counterpart.
• Kokomi being a divine priestess has probably seen evidence of reincarnation, maybe not on Watatsumi Island, but all over Inazuma. Sometimes she’d read popular hits and fictional stories from books imported from Liyue, even Mondstadt had its fair share.
• Kokomi always had these hidden troupes and fantasies she wished she encountered. She always told you that whatever she was in her past life, and whoever you were in yours, you two were bound together by a red string of fate. Little did she imagine that you were tied to the Shogun instead.
Normally the divine priestess didn’t step foot out of Watatsumi Island, but Kokomi was different. Wherever the affairs of the future of her home laid, was where Kokomi went. This time it was in the home of the Shogunate, she had chosen you as a plus-one to accompany her.
You had to beg Kokomi to choose you, and not someone else to act as her bodyguard. You loved Watatsumi Island, but something about Inazuma City was romantic to you, it was nothing like the small villages that you’ve been raised in. Kissing Kokomi’s backhand in respect as you greeted her from her political parties. She had always confessed to you how small she felt after talking with such capable leaders.
You looked up to scan the room, not expecting to know anyone in particular. Amongst the crowd, however, your eyes gravitated towards the one person in particular staring back, the Shogun. You felt a strange shiver, shaking from the familiar feeling you got from her vibrant purple eyes. Her inexplicable mutual contact was strange.
She began marching towards you, a bead of sweat down your face as you quickly looked away, thinking it was just your imagination. You felt a grip on your arm not long after, the Shogun looking down at you. “Why are you here?” She asked you without hesitation. What did she mean? “This is impossible, you’re supposed to be dead,” she mumbled just loud enough for only you to hear.
“How rude,” the small woman behind you chimed in. Regardless of Kokomi’s past with her and her introversion, it wasn’t enough to stop her from defending you. “Is this how you greet the guests of the Tenshukaku?” She asked, clutching onto your arm. The Shogun looked at her as if she had just insulted her greatly.
Realizing she couldn’t say anything in such an environment she shut her mouth and regained her composure. “You’re right. I apologize,” she turned away from you two. “But there ever comes a time where you remember, please do not hesitate,” she spoke proudly. You knew her words were towards you, a feeling of familiarity radiating from her. Did you know this woman beyond what your memory relayed to you?
Kokomi put your head to her chest, holding onto your hair like a mother comforting a child during a terrible thunderstorm. “Do not heed any attention to her,” she whispered in your ear. “I knew we shouldn’t have come here,” her sense of uneasiness possessed her.

-> The Mighty Beelzebul; God of Eternity, is faced with the greatest losses in her entire life - yet she must push forward
-> Gn!reader - no pronouns mentioned! Character death - not detailed! (Reader, Kitsune Saiguu and Makoto!) Spoilers for Ei's backstory! Tad bit ooc?
Tumblr media
EI had once promised you an eternity of love and happiness, but what could a mortal know of eternity? Most mortals barely made it to a hundred years old - when she lives through countless of them, alone and unchanging.
Life loved taking those she cared about from her, each person taking a piece of her shattered heart along with them until only crumbs remained at the bottom of her hollow chest.
Kitsune Saiguu, Makoto and you. Those she loved the most and those she failed to protect. She never imagined life without them, not able to imagine a future without them or one where death was their destiny.
All except for you. However heartbreaking, you were just a motral. It was to be expected that you would die long before her. It was something she accepted for the sake of being with you, no matter how it broke her to one day lose you - she would endure it to have you by her side night and day.
But to lose you all in one go? She never expected or imagined it to happen. She had left you in Inazuma when she hurried to chase after Makoto to Khaenri'ah, where she was too late to save her. Soon she would lose Kitsune Saiguu to the tragedy of battle. She still believed you to be safe in Tenshukaku with the protection of her soldiers. Inside her home.
It would have been true had the Abyss not covered Inazuma in a thick fog whilst attacking its people so fiercly and relentlessly it cost countless lives to be lost, tragically yours amongst them.
The day she finally returned to Inazuma she expected to see you happy and ready to greet her at the door - yet you weren't. A true look of horror crossed her expression as she was told of your passing, her soldiers eyes were full of pity for her.
She refused to cry in front of her men, instead sending them away. But the whole of Inazuma would feel her rage and sorrow for the coming moths, as the skies remained dark with the thunder roaring while lightning struk the earth mercilessly.
After your burial she managed to collect herself and the sun shone again. It almost felt like you were sending its rays of warmth to kiss her features as your last goodbye. You were laid to rest upon a sunny hill were wildflowers bloomed all around you, a small shrine was built near it with dedicated people tending and maintaining it daily.
But she would not let these losses bring her down. Thus, she would harden what remained of her heart and seal herself away in the Plane of Euthymia to seek eternity, never to be distracted by mortals or ties to others ever again. Including her only remaining friend - Yae Miko.
She would not lose any more of her people to outside forces and such was the Sakoku Decree issued, it was to seal off Inazuma from the rest of Teyvat. Inazuma would stand eternal and unchanging, just the way it was when you yet lived. With a present god as its ruler it rivalled any other land and no one dared to challenge its might.

genshin fandom, I desperately need someone to help me understand how exactly do visions work.
I've seen some theories on what qualities must one have to be granted a vision (or in simpler words: what similarities do people who got visions from the same archons have), so here's what I got so far:
Anemo vision is granted to people who either are carefree (like Venti, Sayu, Heizo) or seek freedom in some way (Xiao seeks freedom from his karma & never-ending battle with the remnants of evil gods, Kazuha from the burden of being the descendant of Kaedehara clan, Jean from her duties as acting grand master).
then there's Sucrose on whom we don't have much information, but my guess is that her form of "freedom" is her experiments which she can perform in her own individual way.
Pyro vision is given to people who have a burning passion for something (Xianling's passion for cooking, Bennett's for adventuring, Amber's for flights, Xinyan's for music and so on). I'd also like to notice that most of Pyro characters have a special connection with their parents/ancestors (Diluc with his dad, Hu Tao with her grandfather, Bennett with his "dads" in the guild, Klee with her mother Alice), which can also be a symbol of something old burning so something new can emerge from the ashes.
I am not entirely sure about this one, but Electro visions are given to people who are extraordinary (and not always in a good way). as we all know, after Makoto's death, Baal struggled to find her place in the world, so she locked herself inside her own mind to maintain eternity. she felt like she did not belong in this world, and this feeling seems to be common for electro vision bearers (Fischl is being rejected because of her vivid imagination, Beidou had to leave her village because people associated her with death, Razor doesn't belong in human world and was forced to leave his pack, Kuki is rejected by her family etc). then of course there are just people who are extraordinary in a good way (like Lisa, Sumeru academy's brightest student in 100 years, Yae Miko, who's both a writer & the Guuji of Narukami shrine, and let's not forget that Beidou took down a giant sea monster without having a vision).
Cryo vision is given to people who, like the Tsaritsa (according to Childe), are the soft souls who had to harden themselves. you can also say that cryo characters all had to go through a heartbreaking situation (Diona had to rescue her father during a storm, Kaeya had to fight the person closest to him, Eula had to leave her clan & join the Knights who were rather suspicious of her, Shenhe had to fight the monster to whom her father tried to sacrifice her, Ayaka lost her mother + we can assume that the vision hunt decree also made a number on her).
Geo vision is given to hardworking (Ninguang became a Quixing despite coming from a poor family, Albedo keeps on progressing in alchemy, Noelle works hard to become a knight, Yun Jin practices hard to be an opera singer) people with strong morals/loyal people (Ninguang has dedicated her life to defend Liyue, Gorou — to Watatsumi & it's army, Itto is very protective of his gang).
I don't really have a theory or even opinion of my own on this one, but I've heard people saying that Hydro vision is given to those who value "purity" or have pure intentions (like Barbara singing for people to feel better/dedicating herself to be a healer, Mona aiming to become an astrologist without ever making astrology a tool to make money, Childe working for the Fatui so his family can live happily, Kokomi fighting the war for people's rights, and, from what limited information we have, Nilou dancing to bring people together because she believes that art is something that is for everyone).
we can't say much about Dendro yet, but, considering the fact that Sumeru is the land of knowledge, I'd say that thirst for knowledge is the thing that dendro characters have in common (Baizhu is an outstanding pharmacist, and Tighnari's voice line pretty much sums his opinion on dumb people).
that's pretty much it. I would really appreciate it if someone could correct me if I'm wrong

InuKag Week 2022--Day 5: Parenting/ Moroha
Tumblr media
Day 5!!! We are just going here on @inukag-week
Rated T for language
READ HERE ON AO3
Tumblr media
Moroha splashed the water around her, giggling and screaming in an almost deafening screech of joy from her fun in the hot spring. How it didn’t bother her sensitive dog ears, Inuyasha had no idea.
“Do you like that Moroha?” Kagome laughed, holding their six month old baby under her arms to keep her shoulders up above the water, while she was turning her face away to try and shield herself from the flying water their daughter was flinging everywhere.
“Dadadadadadada!!” Moroha babbled, leaning forward away from Kagome as if she was about to just jump out of her mother’s hold, straight into the steaming water.
“No, it’s ‘Mama,’” Inuyasha tried to correct, offering his fingers for Moroha to take, which she did with a loud piercing squeal of excitement, trying to pull herself closer to him, away from Kagome.
“Dadadadadada!!!” Moroha said again in full giggles.
“It’s easier for her to say ‘Dada’ first,” Kagome explained, her face soft, loving, and beautiful. The way she looked at their daughter–the way she looked at him with her sparkling gray eyes made his heart race.
Never before Kagome had entered his life, had he thought he would not only be accepted, but that acceptance included a family. Friends. A home. A village that actually enjoyed him being around–a village that actually blessed his marriage to a miko, and then brought gifts to celebrate the birth of their daughter.
It was a strange feeling–a strange life in comparison to what he had been living…
A dream really.
Sometimes he wondered if he had ever woken up from when Kikyo shot him.
Or if he died on Kagome’s lap the first night he shared his secret with her.
Or if he died from heartbreak from their separation.
But then moments like these, moments alone with his wife–Inuyasha knew he could imagine shit, but damn. Even on their worst days, he could never have imagined being as happy as he was with Kagome and their beautiful shihanyou baby girl.
“You sure she don’t just like me better?” Inuyasha teased, taking Moroha from her, his initial smirk on his face spreading into a face splitting grin as their daughter cooed and kept up her jabbering as if she was telling him all about her long day of sleeping, eating, napping, and then eating some more.
“Mmmm, could be that too,” Kagome hummed, completely unaffected by his teasing as she moved to lean her head against his shoulder.
“I was just kiddin’, Kagome,” Inuyasha said gently, trying to comfort her even though he noticed she wasn’t phased in the slightest, but bringing their baby girl against his chest, splaying her hand against her belly to hold her up as she continued to play, he brought his other arm around his wife to have her in his embrace as well.
“Oh, I know,” Kagome replied, lifting her head so he could see the mischief in her eyes. “Unless your breasts make milk, I’m pretty sure we know exactly who her favorite person is at meal time.”
Inuyasha rolled his eyes, but leaned down to kiss his mate sweetly, earning him a very approving hum. “I’ll let you keep that skill.”
“Figures,” Kagome huffed, a smile still etched on her face as she turned her attention back to Moroha. “Should we wash your hair, baby?”
“Dadadadadada!!!” Moroha squealed happily, making Kagome laugh at her antics as she began to rinse her hair with water, cupping her hands to draw water into them and then dropping it over Moroha’s head. Their baby girl yipped and howled in laughter, shaking her hair and her fluffy ears to get some of the water off, and then began to pull to get into her mother’s hold again.
“Well, hold on now!” Inuyasha warned, trying to keep her still so Kagome could wash her up with the soaps and oils she’d made. “After she’s done, kiddo! Hold still,” Inuyasha pleaded as she chuckled from their wild child's struggles to claw her way back to Kagome. His wife wasn’t phased in the least, and kept washing her as if she could predict exactly where their daughter would flail her arms next.
After returning to the past, Kagome had really taken to studying with Kaede and Sango more about this world and finding her place within it,
Although, Inuyasha made it clear her place was by his side, just like his was by her.
It didn’t take them long to be married, but they’d waited a while before talking about kids. Inuyasha felt a little selfish, just wanting Kagome all to himself, soaking in her presence again after she had been ripped away from him for years… But his wonderful wife and mate wanted to wait, as well.
Even after they did decide to try, Inuyasha found he was a little nervous about being a father–he was such a dick to Shippo, it was Kagome’s natural mothering skills that made up for his shittiness. Shippo didn’t really hold it against him as he had just joined a make-shift-forced-family when everyone was suffering with the hands they had been dealt.
Kagome had reassured him every step of the way, comforting him about Shippo and making him realize he did well and that Shippo loved them as a son would his parents. And when they finally succeeded in trying, a baby finally growing in her body, Kagome talked him through her pregnancy, even when he was a nervous goddamn wreck. Shippo was also oddly very supportive, excited for the new pup to spoil and pass down some of his he’d gotten from Kagome, and someone to play with who hopefully wouldn’t pull on his tail.
The birth of their daughter was probably the worst out of everything; typically men weren’t present during that time, but he demanded to be, and thankfully, his wife was alright and more than happy with his presence, pleading him to be there for her even with Kaede’s disagreements. There was just so much blood, and Kagome had been so strong, but he could smell her pain and she was just so weak after.
But the happiness that radiated from his wife, and the wonder that filled him, the love that was instantaneous the moment his infant daughter was placed in his arms–the perfect blend of him and his wife–black hair like her mother, black dog ears, amber eyes like him, and then youki and reiki from the both of them. Her name came so naturally–Moroha. Double-edged.
Inuyasha had vowed he would be there every step of the way for Kagome and Moroha: in the middle of the night when she cried and needed comfort, in the day when Kagome needed a moment to herself, during the evening so Kagome could cook dinner if she wanted a break, or even just emotional and physical support when she breast-fed their daughter, letting her lean back on him as he held them close and savored the moment as a family.
“Come here, Moroha,” Kagome cooed, holding her hands out for their freshly cleaned and lathered baby. Inuyasha let her go once Kagome had their girl in her grasp and Moroha giggled, making Kagome laugh as well, her gray eyes sparkling with joy looking at their baby girl. “You love baths, don’t you?”
“Just like her mother,” Inuyasha chuckled, sinking down into the water a little further, keeping his arm draped around his girls, bringing them closer to him.
“I think you like baths more now that we bathe together.”
“Fuck yeah I do, I get to see my mate naked and dripping wet with water,” Inuyasha joked and half-expected a slap from Kagome but she merely sighed happily and rubbed her head against his chest as Moroha continued to splash in the water.
“I have to admit, visiting hot springs after we got married definitely got better. I actually already thought that was the best treat the Feudal era had to offer, but you proved me wrong, husband.” Her words lingered and he wanted to steal another taste of her lips, but Moroha’s incessant babbling made her turn her head downward to see what their daughter was trying to say and sighed, realizing it was dinner time and that it was time to go. “One day you’ll let us enjoy this a little longer–you’ll appreciate the water for allllllll that it is, right, Moroha?”
“Come on, let’s get you girls home,” Inuyasha said, lifting them from the water and then taking Moroha so Kagome could dress. Once she was clothed, she took Moroha and dressed her as Inuyasha threw on his hakama and kosode, leaving his haori off and draping it over his wife to cover her and their daughter, shielding them from the chill the evening brought. The hanyou lifted his family in his arms and carried them home, walking in a slower pace initially, letting Kagome feed their baby girl. Moroha finished her hunger off quickly, and then began to murmur tiredly. Inuyasha moved quicker, so he and Kagome could lay their daughter down and snuggle her to sleep and let sleep take them as well, so when Moroha woke in the middle of the night, Inuyasha could take the first watch and feed her with the soft foods she was starting to try, and then Kagome could take the second and let her feed from her breast.
Parenting was hard, tiring, but shit, it was the best fucking adventure Inuyasha had ever taken, and it was even fucking better with Kagome by his side, supporting him and their baby girl every step and misstep along the way.

Chapter 1: the night bandits/venus; the star love, who waits for the moon
nocturne one: the night bandits
(in the darkest point of night, I want you to be here like before...)
It’s as though Rin has been sent back in time, for she finds herself walking around her old village; a small child once again. She's having trouble coming to terms with the sudden reversal. Looking down at her body she sees tiny, bare feet and a distinct lack of womanly curves. Her kimono is one she remembers well but hasn't worn in many years. A pinkish-red garment that wraps around her lithe, diminutive frame as she brushes her now child-sized hands across it in confusion and disbelief. Her view of her surroundings is that of a child’s too; once more knee-high to the rest of the world, she must gaze upwards at seemingly everyone and everything she comes across.
This isn't right  , she thinks. We're all those years just a dream? Had she never really grown up? Had  Sesshoumaru-sama  been merely a dream? All of her adventures? The time spent living with Kaede-sama in the miko's village? It's heartbreaking to think that the entire life that she lived since leaving this place might never have actually happened at all. She wonders, sadly,  what about her babies? An expectant mother—the last she remembered—at the age she's regressed to, motherhood could be enacted only with dolls and her own imagination.
She idly wanders the village, re-visiting all the old landmarks of her childhood. She passes the paddy fields, the fish preserve, the drunken old hermit who always sat beside the same rock with a bottle of sake clutched in his hand. When he drank he liked to sing songs about the good old days and he sings the same one each time she passes. “ That’s the sound of a million ships/ just sailin’ away/it can feel like before/comin’ through, either way.”  At one point, Rin even comes upon the dilapidated shack that she'd lived in after becoming an orphan. She enters it and there’s a wolf, curled up asleep on her bed of straw and she swiftly but silently backs away until she’s on the main pathway again.
She remembers how to get to her childhood home; knows the path like the back of her hand. She chooses to avoid it; backtracking or taking a sudden swing in the opposite direction when she realizes she’s getting too close. It’s as if returning there would mean accepting that her life since the death of her family had been nothing more than an illusion. She’s not ready for that. She’s still in denial, thinking that if she turns the right corner she’ll end up back under a tree; her head in Sesshoumaru’s lap, their hanyo twins growing in her womb. It’s as if the village itself is waiting on her to accept her retrogradation; the villagers do not speak to her or seem to even acknowledge that she’s there. It’s like she’s caught in some strange limbo; unable to rejoin this world but prevented from moving on. She floats through the village like a spirit who does not belong there anymore. A stranger in a body she can't accept as her own; merely the puppeteer of it's bird-like, underdeveloped limbs.
Eventually, the world gets tired of waiting for her while she wanders around in circles and Rin is deposited into her childhood home. She had taken a left at the singing hermit (“ That’s the sound of a million ships/just sailin’ away/it can feel like before/comin’ through, either way.”) and walked directly into the cozy wooden house of her youth. Her mother is sitting in the middle of the room,  tending to the fire pit. Her brothers play a game in the corner. Her father has dozed off on the straw mat, exhausted after a long day.
Her mother adds another log to the burning flames and addresses her daughter. “Rin, don’t be lazy. You’ve been mucking around for years now. Enough is enough. Come help your  Oka .”
Rin’s cheeks flushed in embarrassment. Her mother  knew; knew Rin had been gone for  years. How could she have let her mother think she’d abandoned the family like that? What kind of daughter was she? Why would she ever—
None of this makes any sense. She’d had every reason to believe that her family were dead and gone forever. She’d  watched  them die. It had seemed so real; her most painful memory. The one that had continued to haunt her for long after. She'd watched these people  die  but here they were, nonetheless.
She looks at her now-living family and wants to feel happy. That horrible night; the screaming, the stabbing, the blood—It had all been just some terrible dream. And now, they’ve been given a second chance. She could look forward to the future where her family was alive and they could all be together again.
But, despite telling herself this, Rin can’t muster up a single feeling of happiness at the sight in front of her. It was like looking at ghosts. Ghosts that don’t even realize they’re ghosts.
Dead dead dead.  All of you are  dead, she thinks.
A bright, orange light starts to emit from outside. Rin turns around. There’s light emitting from the lone window at the front wall and from a bright square that has formed around the doorway.  She goes over and pushes the doorway curtain aside to see what’s going on but the light is so bright it nearly blinds her. She reaches an arm up to cover her eyes as she lets the curtain fall.
When she opens her eyes again, everything is dark. She's still in her family's old house but it’s almost pitch-black and she struggles to make out the forms of her parents and brothers, asleep under their covers. The orange glow begins to peek through the window again and the room is gradually illuminated with the color—the color of flames, she realizes.
Against the far wall, the orange light begins to morph into distinctive shapes. Hulking men in armor with weapons in their grasps. Behind her she can hear the stomping of horse hoofs and the cries of the neighbors. The orange glow illuminates the entire room now, in a mockery of daylight. The light is oppressive and overly luminescent and makes it seem as though the house could explode into flames at any second.
The stomping noise is now dangerously close and Rin dives out of the path of the doorway moments before men on horseback crash through the front wall of the house. It's instant chaos as the horses neigh loudly, the men shout and her family screams as they scramble out of bed.
Rin’s only instinct is to escape. It makes her feel like a terrible coward but she knows she'll surely be killed if she stays. The bandits have already started on her parents. One of them roughly grabs her mother, yanking off the kimono she'd been sleeping under and stabbing her with a long spear. The painful howls emitting from her mother’s mouth are even more awful to hear than the sight is to witness.
She needs to get away. Praying the chaos will be enough to allow her to get out of the house unnoticed, she props herself up on her hands and knees and crawls as quickly and quietly as she can to the doorway. As soon as she makes it outside, she climbs to her feet and breaks into a run.
Her escape doesn't bring safety though. It did, once. In a memory she no longer trusts was ever real.
 The bandits are everywhere.
There's no direction she can run to avoid them. While she stands immobile in the middle of the village, desperately considering her dwindling options, the bandits begin to notice her. They point and yell. "The little girl, let's take her too!"
"Grab her before she gets away!"
"Kill her if she tries to resist!"
 "Kill her anyway!"
They begin to advance on her and Rin can think of only way she could possibly be saved.
"Sesshoumaru-sama!" She screams. But it's too early. He doesn't know her yet. If he ever really existed at all. If he wasn't just a dream she'd made up in her mind.
"Sesshoumaru-sama!" She screams again. She screams his name over and over again until she feels the bandits blade in her side and the moist flow of blood as it drips down her skin.
tarantella one: venus; the star love, who waits for the moon
(when you go, do you miss me?)
Rin's eyes snap open and in her first few manic moments of consciousness, Rin bolts to a sitting position and pulls her kimono up to examine her leg. The sensation of something wet on her thigh is still there. A quick exploration with her fingers confirms this and her heart drops. She pushes more of the fabric out of the way to get a better view and her eyes land on the trail of blood running down her leg.
Real, real, it was real, she thinks as she frantically searches for a wound. Something had really hurt her,  stabbed her,  and now she was going to bleed out on the forest floor. In her distressed state, she ignores what should be the curious lack of pain if she had indeed suffered a flesh wound. Instead, she continues to look for evidence of the deep cut she’s convinced is somewhere on her body.
"Rin," a low, deep voice breaks into her panicked thoughts.
"Calm yourself.” Sesshoumaru leans down on one knee beside her, his clawed hand coming to cradle her chin.
“The bleeding just started. I smelled it and was about to wake you." The voice is measured but laced with concern. She was one of the few people who have recognized the nuance.
It’s such a relief for Rin to hear that voice. Just hearing his voice and being in his presence grounds her and she allows herself to accept that the experience had only been a nightmare and she's now safely back in the real world.
She  was  bleeding, though. Rin examines her leg closer. She's calmer now but still disorientated from the nightmare. Not completely back to reality just yet.
"Rin was having a nightmare," she says. "Someone stabbed me in my leg. There was so much blood," she explains.
"There's no wound," Sesshoumaru reassures her. "It was just a dream. The bleeding; it’s from your cycle.” His keen sense of smell meant he could accurately judge the difference.
She gulped nervously. “Do you think the babies are alright?”
“It’s probably nothing to worry about,” he reassures her again, although they’re both well aware that he’s hardly an expert in the subject.
This isn’t the first time this has happened to her. Rin had been a midwife-in-training and knew that women were supposed to cease bleeding during pregnancy, so when she’d bled the first time after knowing she was with child she’d panicked, believing she was having a miscarriage. Sesshomaru had had to rush her to the nearest human village so she could be told by a jaded local midwife with an obvious distaste for human-yokai relations that she hadn’t suffered a miscarriage. Apparently, continuing to bleed even while pregnant was normal and didn’t necessarily indicate a problem. Though, even with this information, Rin still found herself becoming anxious each time it happened subsequently.
“Rin is going to the pond to clean up,” she says, rising to her feet. “Will you wait here until I come back?” Her nightmare had greatly disturbed her and she really doesn’t want to return to find herself alone.
Sesshoumaru nodded and Rin began to walk toward the pond. Another stream of blood rolls down the length of her thigh and she holds her kimono and her underlayer up and away from her body. They were already slightly bloodied and she doesn’t want to risk staining them further.
It’s still very early in the morning. The sun has yet to come up and Rin has to strain her eyes to tell where she's going and walk slowly so she won’t trip over anything. Treading barefoot across the lush field at such an ethereal hour, she’s able to relax slightly. The stark, cool sensation of dewy blades of grass catching between her toes is refreshing compared to the warm, sticky blood that drips down her legs.
Rin wonders if the nightmares about her family’s death will ever go away completely. They had become significantly less frequent over the years and she’d gotten to the point where she could go months without having one at all. But they always returned. There seemed to be no comfort in the entire world, not even the devotion of Sesshoumaru-sama himself, that could keep them at bay.
She reached the pond and stripped off her kimono, leaving herself clad only in her hadajuban. She carefully rinses the blood out of the cloth and then sets it aside. Splashing some of the pond water onto her legs, Rin cleans the sticky liquid from her skin. Once she finishes, she picks up her kimono and begins to walk back before pausing to admire the sky. Dawn would be breaking soon; the first hints of sunlight were peeking out over the horizon, leaving only the brightest stars still visible.
“Beautiful, isn’t it,” a man’s voice, unfamiliar to her ears, breaks into her reverie.
Rin jumps a little, startled. She’d had no idea anyone else was even out there. Even though it’s still quite dark, she pulls her dampened kimono back on. It would be improper for a married woman like herself to be seen in her hadajuban by someone who wasn’t her husband. Once she’s convinced she’s decent enough, she darts her head around in search of the voice's origin. Blinking into the fading darkness, she spots a figure perched atop a rock at the edge of the pond.  Had that person been there the entire time?
Rin could just make out the man’s appearance. He was fairly tall, with chin-length hair and wearing a dark kosode under a lighter colored haori and a pair of striped hakama. Despite addressing her, the man wasn’t looking towards her. Instead, his gaze was fixed on the lightening sky.
“That bright planet that hangs up there on early mornings like this; do you know the name of it?” he asks her.
Rin looks back to the sky, where one star burned bigger and brighter than any of the others.
“Oh,” she says, “‘that’s ‘the metal star’ isn’t it?” That was the name that Rin had known it by, although Miroku-sama had told them other names for it he had been aware of, like Jīn-xīng and Shukra Graha.
“Venus; the morning star,” the man says, eyes transfixed on the celestial object in question.  “The star of love.”
Rin was intrigued by the man’s description. She could understand why it would be called ‘the morning star’ but...
 “Why, ‘the star of love?’”
“There exists a far-off land called Rome,” he tells her, “where they ‘do as the Romans do’ as they say!” He says this with a laugh but Rin doesn’t get the reference and isn’t sure what about it is supposed to be funny.
“The ancient Romans worshipped Venus as their goddess of love and named the brightest star in the sky in her honor.”
“Ah!” he continues, “but the Romans aren’t the only ones who associate this star with love. Travel west towards the continent and you’ll find those who refer to it by two names; sao Mai, the morning star and sao Hôm, the evening star. Because they’re considered distinct entities, existing at different times, they’re likened to separated lovers. They also have another word for the same star, sao Vượt—The climbing star.”
The sky was becoming lighter and lighter as the man talked and Rin could make out his physical appearance more clearly now. He looked young and not really like any human Rin had encountered, with his auburn-colored hair. But he didn’t look like a yokai either. Perhaps he was a traveling foreigner; it would explain how he knew so much about far-away lands and cultures.
 “The climbing star?” she inquires.
The man nods. “They have a poem about it; ‘When you go, do you miss me? I am the climbing star waiting for the moon in the sky .’”
“That’s beautiful,” Rin says. It reminds her of a song she used to sing.  ‘I will wait, all alone/For Sesshoumaru-sama’s return.’
That was what she was, Rin thinks. A climbing star. A morning star. Venus, with all her love, who waits for her evening moon.
“It is?” the man asks. “Beautiful?”
“Yes,” Rin nods. “It reminds me of a song I used to sing.”
“Oh?” he says, finally turning to look at her. There’s a peculiar expression on his face. “What did it sound like—Your song?”
Rin feels a sudden sense of unease at the tone in his voice.
“Was it…” he hums a brief melody, “the sound of a million ships, just sailing away… ”
Rin can feel her heart sink. She  knows  she’s heard that before. But  where had she heard that before? It sounded so familiar to her but try as she might, she just couldn’t place it. She racks her brain, trying to come up with the memory.
The man continues to stare at her, vacantly. All the friendliness from before has been drained away.
“Rin,” Sesshoumaru’s voice says from behind her. “Is this man bothering you?”
Rin turns around to see him standing there, eyes slightly narrowed.
“No, Sesshoumaru-sama, everything is fine. This man was just telling Rin about—”
She turns back to the mysterious stranger but there’s no one perched atop the rock and the man is nowhere to be seen.

Kouga walks the streets of another city, draped in a faded sweater/jacket combo, one hand in his pocket, the other holding the strings of an old duffle over his shoulder. It’s been decades since he’s seen any of the pack. Ginta and Hakkaku have tried keeping steady contact, but it’s too much for him to keep in touch. He needs the distance from them. From their worried eyes, their friendly recommendations. The unwarranted (rage inducing, heart crushing) advice.
(Wolves mate for life. No amount of time would ever be able to change that.)
He stays away from cities regularly, only stomachs them when his clothes are nearly rags. Where he’s at now isn't large, but as part of the trail to the Mountains of Dewa, it's full of students and tourists. Still, the forests border the edge of town; getting back to his cabin won’t take any time.
He's half out of it, not really paying attention to what’s going on. That’s why when he first hears it, he thinks he's dreaming. A laugh that sounds like a faded memory. But he knows that’s all it is, just another memory of a long lost girl superimposed on someone in the here and now.
When Kouga hears it again, he wonders if he’s finally lost it. He only just stops himself from straining his ears to listen. But it’s the scent on the breeze that does it, that brings his slow walk to an abrupt halt. Its like someone threw open the windows in his mind and a gust of wind blew through, bringing all his memories with it.
The sounds aren't real, the smell is his nose playing tricks. Kouga knows that. Of course he knows that. She's been gone for five centuries. He'd never seen her again.
It can’t be.
~
Kagome is walking the streets with her friends when she feels it. An impossible well of power, something she hasn’t seen since the closing of the well. Her intake of breath is sudden and sharp, stopping her in her tracks. Her head turns automatically to track it, ready to shout a warning to people who are no longer there.
It’s gone as quickly as it appeared.
Her friends look worried, having stopped themselves when they realized she wasn't following. They're good friends, people she's met and gotten along with since college where they first met. Even Ayumi is here, the only one of the original three she'd never lost touch with over the years.
Ayumi is the one who calls her name, snapping Kagome back to the present. She must have imagined it. There haven't been demons in Japan for centuries. Or at least not that she’s seen. She would be the one to know; she hadn’t stopped searching for a sign of them until three years ago.
She waves it off, trying to smile even if it feels wrong in her face. Ayumi is looking at her the same way she did during her first year back. Like she's waiting for something. Sympathetic, but wondering if this is the day one of her best friends is going to crack.
As much as she understands it, Kagome hates that look more than she wants to admit.
The girls continue their trek. Kagome tries to pay attention, has to fight the urge to turn back and make a run for it. She’s crazy. They don’t exist. Time has proven it. She knows it, her mother and brother know it, even her grandfather knows it. Still wasn’t easy to accept.
They debate stopping, and Kagome tries to get back in the swing of things. She doesn't want to get lost in the past, trapped forever and alone with her memories. She wants better than that. Deserves it.
They're in front of a restaurant when it hits her again, and it makes her whole body turn with the force of it, searching desperately for the source. She takes a step, ready to run, when she remembers who she's with.
But Ayumi's smile has changed, an understanding she hasn't seen in centuries (not since she befriended a demon slayer and began the building of a life-long, now distant friendship.) That smile tells her to go, to find whatever it is she needs to find. Whatever it takes to make her whole again.
Kagome’s gone faster than her friends can blink, kicking up a there-and-gone cyclone of wind.
~
Her running feet carry her through the city, through gaggles of students and local teens (all no older than she used to be, back then, before, when time could mean anything.) She passes through them like a ghost, flickers of eyes catching her frantic pace without acknowledgment.
It reminds her of running through a long forgotten forest, makes her blood sing.
The aura disappears and she collapses against a column, giving herself a chance to breathe. She doesn’t know where she is, only knows that she’s near the city center. The buildings are reminders of the once grand greco-roman empire, but are covered with flecks of paint. This place doesn’t have to try and make itself look old, it already is. Instead you see the city that’s grown around it.
Kagome’s caught her breath, so she straightens, taking in the sights. She knows what direction she needs to head in, but there’s a part of her still fighting it. A corner of her mind is screaming to let it go, that if she can ignore this, she’ll have finally moved on in her new life. She should listen to it. She knows it.
There’s a hum against her skin, demonic power like static making the hair on her arm stand on end. There’s no feeling in it, nothing to tell her if its malicious or benevolent. But its unsure, flickering. As if its feeling the same uncertainty she is. Like it’s not sure if it wants to be found.
She’s already moving, but slower now, more carefully. Nervous as she is, the last thing she wants is to spook it.
It comes and goes, leading her through the streets, making her search with her own power to seek it out. Her reiki reacts as quickly to her commands now as it did then. The years have changed how she looks. They haven’t done much for what she is.
(Shard detector, miko, reincarnation, friend, enemy, protector, protected. Family.)
The buildings have grown smaller. More shabby, less populated. The road was cobblestone, but no longer. It’s only dirt now, rocks scattered at its edge. The treeline is in sight, a barrier separating the city and its inhabitants (the villagers knew to fear the woods, had never lingered near that terrifying line) from the wild and its wonders. The smell of wet earth and deep forest sits heavy in the air; the snap of a twig sets her heart pounding.
Whatever she found here, something was going to change.
There weren't words to describe how desperately she needed it.
~
It was her. Standing there, only feet away.
It shouldn't have been possible; Kagome had been many things (the love of his life, the song in his heart, the wind in his hair, the mountains at his back), but she was human. Death was always going to come for her unless she bound herself to a demon. (Even the mutt would do, as long as it meant she lived.)
But here she is, as beautiful as he remembers her. Silky black hair, sapphire eyes, rosey skin. A scent he could track anywhere he went.
(How that moronic half breed had ever thought she looked even remotely like that pasty ass priestess was beyond him.)
All he had to do was step out from the trees and he could touch her. Tell her he was there, and she’d speak to him. He’d hear his name on her lips.
His voice was gone. He couldn’t make his legs move.
She was right there, right in front of him, and he was scared fucking stiff.
~
She didn't know how long she stood there, searching with unused senses for something she couldn't see with her eyes. The longer she stood at the edge, the closer she was to the precipice. One wrong move, and she'd fall from the edge. Never to be seen again.
Her heart is pounding in her chest, enough to make her think she can hear it with human ears. If she even thinks she hears it, she knows whatever is out there surely can. But it isn't coming.
(That's the problem with hope. It can be the most powerful thing in the world, or the most devastating.)
Heartbreak clogs her throat, brings salt to her eyes that makes them sting. She doesn't want to cry. She doesn't want to give up. (It was real, she knows it, she KNOWS it was real!)
The space in front of her stays empty. There's nothing there.
No one's coming.
Quakes rack the frame of her body, and she thinks this is it. The world is coming down around her, forcing her to face reality.
No one's coming.
The weight of the world drags her knees to the ground.
They don't make it.
~
They’re laying on their sides in his bed, staring at each other. Neither can really believe they’re here, that this is happening. He’d watched the fight leave her, seen her ready to give up everything. (His heart couldn't take it.)
He hadn’t thought about it. His body moved, and he’d trusted his instincts for the first time since… he couldn’t remember when. But he’d taken her and ran, legs pumping faster than they ever had (even empowered with the jewel's strength.) Kouga had kidnapped her all over again, dragged her to the safety of his cabin (the privacy of his den) and hadn’t cared a damn bit.
(He wasn’t going to lose her again.)
If he’d been any less of a demon, any less of a man, he’d have already sunk his teeth in her neck and bound her life to his. Made it so she would be as indestructible, as forever lasting, as him.
But he couldn’t do it. Not because he wasn’t selfish (there was still a high chance he’d do it sometime over the next few days), not because he was worried she’d hate him when he did. It was just… he hadn’t seen her in five hundred years. What a hell of a first impression.
A crack in the window let cool air in, goosebumps rising on her delicate skin. Kouga’s hand moved on its own, the backs of his fingers brushing over the ridges of her dress. Her gasp was quiet, almost inaudible even to him.
(She was here. She was real. This wasn’t a dream.)
Kouga’s thoughts are so focused inward, he doesn't see her hand moving. But he feels it when the pads of her fingers hover over his cheek, light as a butterflies wing. It's like she's afraid to touch him, like she'll shatter the illusion if she does. He understands completely, but he wants that touch more than he needs to breathe.
He turns his face into her palm, nose brushing over its center. The slightest twitch in her fingers, and he grazes his lips over the meat of her thumb, down to her wrist. He can feel the blood, warm under her skin, her pulse fluttering against his lips. (It's everything.)
There's no stopping it; Kouga holds her hand to his cheek and kisses the bend, soft lingering things, breath moistening her skin. He inhales, and the smell hits him like a ton of bricks.
(She wants him.)
His hand moves from her waist to the hem of her dress, risen high on her thigh. Warm fingers cup smooth flesh, slipping beneath the fabric to pull her thigh over his. The smell assaults him, hardening him in his jeans, but it doesn't matter. It's secondary to everything else he's feeling.
Kouga lets go of her wrist to press more kisses to her chin, up her jaw to the throbbing pulse in her neck. Kagome's not pushing him away, instead making little sounds of encouragement at his attention. He settles his attention there, tasting the life in her.
The tang of their want coats his nose, makes him heady. He wants to lose himself in it, to let go, to put everything he has into making more of it. He wants to know the fragrance of their joining, to have it linger and live in his sheets. (He wants her with him for eternity.)
He scrapes his teeth at the nape of her neck, fangs itching to grow and sink. Her core rocks into him at the feeling, and he does it again, a little harder, a little longer. Kagome’s as lost as he is, her gasps and whimpers howling in his ears. (He has her. She belongs to him.)
Rather than roll her onto her back, he drags her over him. But Kagome isn’t mindless, and she tugs him up, holding him to her. Kouga takes a moment to breathe, try to get his bearings. Kagome’s fingers are in his hair, tugging the tail loose so she can feel its length. It’s a wolfish show of affection, whether or not she’s aware of it. He feels a smile tug at his lips for the first time in decades, and nuzzles her for it.
His eyes are drawn downwards, to the sight of her dress pooling over their laps. It’s just long enough to be decent while she’s standing, but anything else (even this) reveals the softness of her skin. It does something to him, makes him want to catch, to chase, to have her always dress like this. Innocence and prey, temptation (mate.)
Kouga doesn’t see the way his eyes tint red at the edge, doesn’t feel the difference in himself as they change. But Kagome must read something in him, or knows enough about lost control and demons (don’t think about it, don’t wonder, the mutt’s been dead for years and there’s nothing he can do about it) to draw his lips back to her neck. It works, and he focuses on the taste of her skin again.
Kagome is still making those noises, the ones that go straight to his cock, make him want to claim her here and now. But the way she’s acting, there’s no need for it. He knows it, same as she.
Kagome belongs with him. She’s here, in his arms, in his woods, his cabin. He’s found her again.
Just like he knows she’s found her home in him.

i made a video with the full translations for the drama cd so we can all suffer together.
read more for translation notes & other stuff
narration begins at 1:24
this audio was released in Japan with the OVA voice actors (Shō Hayami as Akira and Yu Mizushima as Ryo) and covers the material of the fifth and final volume of the manga, but doesn't seem to have an official english translation. a number of fan translations are floating around, such as the one by tinbot (here), which i referenced while making this video.
i DO NOT speak much japanese, i just know enough to get by. i used what i knew to try to sharpen up tinbot's translation and make sure i synced up the video well. i hope i did it justice.
the female devilman that akira talks to isn't named in the manga. i decided it was reasonable to call her miko considering that she's akira’s lieutenant during Amon: Apocalypse of Devilman.  i think it was this character in the manga that would later inspire miko, so i just went ahead and used that name.
is it spelled zenon or xenon? the world may never know.
i call ryo by that name throughout the whole video rather than switching to "satan." this was just for consistency.
at first i was putting manga panels along with each line but then i decided i really hated that.  one of my favorite things about this audio (besides the phenomenal voice acting and heartbreak, of course) is that it gives you the freedom to imagine what everything looks like, and putting in official art ruins that. so if you’re wondering why it looks really boring, that’s why.
i skipped the long introduction & cut some music from the end.  i didn’t think it took anything from the experience tbh.
IMPORTANT: i don't own ANY of this, don't give me credit. shoutout to our man go nagai for giving us this masterpiece & another shoutout to tinbot because that translation was super helpful

I think Qiqi was my second ever 5 star but THANKFULLY she came from Standard and didn’t ruin my pity <3 after Kokomi, I got Childe on his rerun and then I lost my 50/50 on Albedo’s banner to Mona… absolutely heartbreaking but now I have?? Every hydro character?? I guess?? What other 5 stars do you have besides Keqing and Ganyu? Are you planning to go for Yae Miko? :o I was… until the Xiao rerun hehe. Chapter Two: Rain pt 1
It had been a couple weeks since Kouga and Kagome met and started living together. They didn’t really get to see much of each other, only spending time together in the evening. They were both gone most of the day, and their days off didn’t typically coincide. Kagome had the weekends off, typically using that time to study and do schoolwork, while Kouga’s off days were whenever it rained, and Mondays and Tuesdays. Today, though, their schedules managed to line up somehow. The rain kept Kouga at home, on a Saturday no less. It was a rare occurrence.
His eyes slid away from the TV to watch Kagome. The miko was flitting about in the kitchen, working on making them dinner. They had both agreed to switching days for cooking, and today was Kagome’s day. It was interesting to watch her work. She handled herself pretty well in the kitchen, despite her streak of clumsiness that he had witnessed. It wasn’t anything too serious, it was mostly fumbles with things she was holding, mainly her books. The youkai frowned as he thought about her workload. He did his best to take time and bring her some tea while she was studying, maybe some snacks as well if it seemed like she needed it. Anything, really, to make sure she didn’t rely solely on energy drinks and espresso shots. He had taken a quick glance at her text and notes one night and it sent his head swimming. He had no idea how she did it.
He pushed the thoughts out of his mind for now and went back to watching the TV. There wasn’t really anything special on, just the news as of right now. Kouga had to scoff as a story about a youkai attack came up. He firmly believed that the youkai that thought they could still act like things were the same as they were back in the old days had a screw loose. Humans these days now had even footing with them. Some of the weapons they used terrified even him. Not to mention that if any youkai tried things such as this, they were brought before not only human courts, but youkai courts... and their courts were known to be extremely harsh with a little to no tolerance policy. Their position in the world had been made clear centuries ago. Sure it was a hard pill to swallow, but it was a necessary one. It’s what kept youkai alive these days.
With that, Kagome appeared next to him, setting down his plate of food. He looked up to thank her and saw the frown on her face, eyes fixated on the TV. “Jeeze.. that’s just awful..” she mumbled. Kouga turned to look at the TV as well, now starting to actually focus on the story playing on screen.
Apparently, a youkai had set fire to a local nightclub, having thrown a fit that he wasn’t allowed inside. Not because he was a youkai, but because the club was at max capacity. According to the security guard that was speaking to the news reporter, the youkai had tried to pull rank, spouting off about who he was, or well, who he used to be. Kouga rolled his eyes.
“Youkai like him are stupid. He’ll get what’s coming to him.” he said, turning to face Kagome again. Her frown only deepened.
She let out a small sigh and went back into the kitchen to retrieve their soup. He frowned a bit at that. Had he said something wrong? It didn’t take Kagome long to return with their bowls of soup, setting them down and then taking her spot across from Kouga. He took this time to look down and see what she had made them that night. It was quite the spread: stir-fried steak and vegetables, fried rice, homemade steak sauce, and miso soup.
As they started to eat, they changed the channel, hoping to find something more lighthearted. Settling on a drama, they ate in relative silence. It drove Kouga crazy. He did his best to take it in stride, but after only a couple minutes of silence between them, a forlorn look on her face, he couldn’t stand it anymore. “Kagome..” Her head snapped up. “What’s wrong?” he asked, concern clearly written on his face.
She sat there quietly for a few moments, debating. However, she soon let out a sigh and set her chopsticks down. “I just... I find it really sad.” At his questioning look she chewed on her cheek for a moment, trying to gather her thoughts. “I guess... It’s heartbreaking to see youkai go to these extents. I imagine they’re hurting inside. So much has changed, and since you all live for so long, I imagine it all feels so quick.”
Kouga had to hold back a smile and a chuckle. This woman never ceases to amaze him. Spending what little time he has with her over these past couple weeks has severely endeared her to him. It was astonishing, really.
At his lack of a reply, Kagome flushed and started to fidget. “I mean.. it’s just.. It’s probably all gone by in the blink of an eye. Like, in the Feudal Era, for example, youkai were so powerful and could do whatever they wanted. But then all of a sudden, you blink and there’s cities everywhere and all kinds of new weapons and then you’re on equal footing with everyone! Or at least... that’s how it’s been explained to me. And I can empathize, really! It’s all... really fast and-”
He held up a hand then, cutting off her rambling. “It’s okay Kagome. I really appreciate your compassion for us youkai.” he said, smiling at her. His smile heated her skin and made her blush darken. This overjoyed Kouga. Though, the smell of her embarrassment, fruity in nature, made him a tad bit sad. “But the fact of the matter is, it doesn’t matter how difficult it may be for us to adjust. It’s something we have to do in order to survive in this world. Any youkai that can’t swallow that pill isn’t cut out for this life.” he said simply, shrugging his shoulders and shoving some rice into his mouth.
Kagome frowned at that but said nothing. She knew he had a point, but it was something she didn’t like to think about. She wished that things could just... work out perfectly. She knew it was probably childish to think in such a way, but she couldn’t help it. She was going to be a doctor. Her job was to save people. That’s all she really wanted... for everyone to be safe and happy.
It didn’t take too long for them to finish their food. Once they were both done, Kouga thanked her for the delicious meal, then gathered up their dishes. This was the other part of their deal: whoever cooked that day, the other had to do the cleanup. It was efficient and fair to both parties involved. As he stood in the kitchen, washing the dishes, he could smell the fruitiness fading from her scent. It was gradual, but it was soon gone from her, and then all he could scent in the room was the lingering smell of the food she had made, and Kagome’s own natural scent. The smell of spring rain and wildflowers had slowly become a comfort to him. Even while she wasn’t there on days he was, her scent filled the house. It lulled him and his inner beast alike. He knew he was falling for her, hard. Getting to know her was only solidifying the claim his beast had staked on her.
He had considered starting the courting process, but he knew that humans moved slower than wolf youkai. He had to constantly remind his inner beast of that. Kouga also had a feeling that it would take a bit longer than usual with Kagome anyway. She was so focused on school, and she seemed to have a one-track mind. From what he’s seen, anyway. It was a bit hard to tell, since he, again, had only been spending very limited time with her since they moved in together. He shook his head free of the thoughts. He could dwell on them later. With that, he set back to work with the dishes, cleaning them, drying a few, and putting them away. Some items he left in the drying rack. Once he was done there, he turned back to rejoin Kagome in front of the TV.
Kagome was focused on the TV, and Kouga tried to watch the show that was on, he really did, but her scent was so intoxicating. He kept glancing over at her, watching her. The bags under her eyes were steadily getting darker and more pronounced. Her hair was still pulled up in its bun from when she was cooking, though now he could see several strands that had fallen out and were now framing her face. He wanted to move closer to her and brush the hair back. Hell, he would love to run his claws through her hair and braid it for her. He wanted to do anything and everything she needed. Gods, he was such a lovesick pup. He forced himself to tear his eyes away from the miko next to him and stare at the TV. He managed to catch the ending of the episode before the credits started to roll.
The miko next to him let out a huff and he turned to, once again, look at her. He watched as she rose from her seat and stretched. “Well.. I should go hit the books.” she said, flashing him a soft smile that stopped his heart. Where did she get off being so cute like that? He simply smiled back at her.
“Yeah. I’ll get the tea started.” She giggled a bit at that.
“You don’t have to make me tea all the time, Kouga. Though I do really appreciate it.”
“Hey, green tea is a better form of caffeine than those damn energy drinks.” he argued, though there was a grin on his face.
She set her hands on her hips then. “Hey now, I happen to like those energy drinks.” she fired back with an ear-splitting grin.
“Well, you’re a doctor aren’t ya? You should know how terrible they are for you.”
She shook her head then, rolling her eyes and waving off his teasings. “Yeah, yeah. I’ll deal with the consequences later. Now, I’m gonna go get to studying.” And with that, she was walking down the hall to her room, and then she was gone from his sight. Kouga chuckled a bit to himself. Yep.. she was definitely the woman for him. With that thought in mind, he rose from his seat and went back into the kitchen, ready to put the kettle on.
..::YatM::..
Kagome was creating a storm in her room. She had music playing as she did her best to clean up her room. Sango and Miroku were supposed to be visiting today and she hadn’t had time to clean her room until today. It was sending her into a bit of a panic. Sure, they had lived together for several years, but she still wanted to make a good impression on them. Besides, it was only Sango who knew how messy Kagome could get at times, depending on her stress level. Which was the main reason why she felt the urgency to clean up; she knew that her friend would try to make an immediate bee-line for her room to check to see how the miko was actually doing. Damn that girl and her perceptiveness… she practically growled to herself. She loved Sango to death, truly, but that girl could be so nosy at times. And stubborn! Gods… Though, Kagome supposed that’s how they bonded in the first place.
The miko let out a sigh as she put away the last of her books on her shelf. She knew she would just need to take them down again as soon as her friends were gone, but at least now she felt a bit better about the state of her room. From there, Kagome went about putting away the cleaning supplies, trying to hide any and all evidence that she had been cleaning at all. Once that was done, she turned off her music, grabbed a change of clothes, and made her way to the bathroom. Cleaning up had caused her to sweat, and she was silently grateful that she had waited to take her shower. It was the absolute worst to shower and then get dirty or sweaty immediately after. It completely defeated the purpose!
Kagome let out a sigh as she undressed, tossing her clothes haphazardly to the floor as she moved to start the shower water. While she waited for the water to heat up, she went about brushing her teeth, making extra sure she would look well taken care of. With that done, she stepped into the shower and let the warm water soak into her bones. She hoped it would undo at least some of the knots in her back, though she knew she would need a good soak in the bath in order to get a good portion of them undone.
Too soon, she was done in the shower and was stepping out, the cold tile sending chills up her spine and causing her to shudder. She dried herself off as quickly as she could and put her clothes on. She then set about blow drying her hair. Once she was done, she gathered her clothes up off the floor and then left the bathroom. She stopped by her room to toss her clothes in the hamper, and then made her way to the kitchen to prepare some snacks and get the tea started. She was excited, but also a bit anxious for her visitors. This would be the first time they saw the apartment since she moved in. Sango had been a big part in Kagome’s search, and both she and Miroku had come with Kagome when she went to visit in person. Neither of them had been since that day. Kagome didn’t really have much to move in with, and what she did have wasn’t too bad to handle. Not to mention, the two of them had been busy when Kagome decided to move in. So, this would be their first time seeing it all moved into… and it would, possibly, be their first time meeting her roommate.
She bit her lip at the thought and narrowly avoided cutting her finger. “Shit..” she muttered under her breath. She better focus on the task at hand… She took a moment to calm her thoughts before moving to finish chopping the cabbage. Kagome laser focused on her task, getting all the ingredients for the gyoza filling ready. Once she was done with that, she began to make them, folding them carefully and precisely. By the time she had finished the frying process and was a couple minutes into the steaming portion, she heard a knock on the door.
Sucking in a breath, Kagome readied herself. She quickly washed her hands and dried them off before going to the door. She opened it and was immediately tackled by Sango. “Oh Kagome! It’s been too long! I’ve missed you so much.” she said.
Kagome laughed and hugged her back. “I’ve missed you too, Sango.” They soon released each other, and Kagome looked over towards Miroku. “It’s nice to see you again, Miroku. I’ve missed you as well.” she said, smiling at him. He returned her smile and gave a small bow.
“And the same goes to you, Kagome.”
The miko beamed at her friends then and ushered them inside. As Kagome scurried back to the kitchen, Sango and Miroku took time to look around. The apartment was decorated quite nicely, now. There were plenty of plants near the window, some of them hanging from the walls and ceiling. They knew for a fact that those weren’t Kagome’s. Sango looked up at Miroku and raised an eyebrow. He simply shrugged, and they went back to looking around. They recognized quite a few items in the small living area as Kagome’s, however, they didn’t recognize the majority of the items in the room. They could only guess that they were her roommate’s.
Sango was itching to go find Kagome’s room and see how it was being kept. She had a feeling that her friend was working herself too hard, which wasn’t a surprise, and Sango wanted to know just how bad it was. However, before she could ask where the “bathroom” was, Kagome had finished the gyoza she was making and was walking towards them with several plates in hand.
“Alright! Let’s sit and catch up!” she beamed. Sango couldn’t deny that face.
The couple seated themselves at the table and Kagome placed the plate with the gyoza on it in the center of the table, placing the three smaller plates in front of her friends and herself, along with several pairs of chopsticks, then went off to the kitchen to grab the tea. She returned with the pot and set it nearby, then had to leave once more to get cups. Once she was back with those, she poured them each a cup of tea and finally, finally sat down to relax. The couple thanked her and they all reached for the gyoza, tearing off several pieces each and setting them down on their respective plates.
“So Kagome, how has it been going?” Sango asked before popping the pork-filled dumpling into her mouth.
“It’s been going pretty well. School is the same as always, but you know, what can you do?” she asked with a bit of a shrug. Sango nodded thoughtfully at this. She was doing her best to study the miko in front of her without being obvious about it. She noticed that the dark circles under her eyes were getting bigger. Sango opened her mouth to bring it up, subtly, but Miroku cut her off before a single sound could leave her mouth.
“So.. are those plants hanging near the window your roommate’s?” he asked, dipping his piece of gyoza in some soy sauce before popping it into his mouth.
Kagome’s eyes shifted over to look at the plants. She had been surprised when Kouga had brought them in and set them up, however his reasoning was pretty sound. “Oh, yeah they are. My roommate really likes plants. It reminds them of their past living in the forest.” she said. She had been doing her best to keep the gender of her roommate neutral. She wasn’t sure how her friends would react to her staying with a man. Well actually, she knew exactly how they’d react. Which is why it was imperative that she kept the identity of her roommate a secret.
“You mentioned that your roommate is a youkai. What kind are they?” Sango asked, quirking an eyebrow. Sango would be lying if she said she hadn’t been concerned when Kagome mentioned she was moving in with a youkai. She had nothing against them, it was just that mikos and youkai weren’t known to get along well. They had a long history of violence and she felt that she was right in her concern for her friend. But she knew that Kagome wouldn’t put herself in danger, so she had put her worries to rest.
Kagome grew a bit nervous at this. Would it be safe to tell them she was living with a wolf youkai? She knew that Sango came from a long line of slayers. Of course, the practice had fallen away several centuries ago, but she knew that Sango still had that in her veins and had likely been taught things, just in case. After all, it didn’t hurt to be too safe. There were still some dangerous youkai out there, if the news report from last night was anything to go by.
“Well.. um.. they’re a wolf youkai.” she replied meekly. She fiddled with her fingers nervously, trying to gauge Sango’s reaction. She watched as her friend contemplated this for a few moments before nodding.
“Interesting. I’d like to meet them one day! When do they usually come home?” she asked, a smile on her face.
Kagome paled. “Ah well, you see, I doubt they’ll be coming home tonight! I think they mentioned something about their pack, so maybe some other time!” she answered nervously.
Sango narrowed her eyes as she studied the miko. She didn’t believe her... Shifting her eyes over to look at Miroku, he seemed to think the same thing. She refocused her attention on Kagome then. “What’s wrong Kagome? What are you not telling us?”
“N-nothing! They’re just busy some days!” she said, trying to laugh off her nerves. It wasn’t working. She watched as Sango looked about ready to continue her line of questioning, and the miko prayed that anything, anything would stop this interrogation. Then they all heard the clicking sound of the locks being undone and Kagome had to hold back a groan. Maybe she should’ve been a bit more specific in her prayers....
