Summary -> "For Miko & Raiden, the reader can be their past lover but somehow died & got reincarnated in the present time. Then as the time pass by, both Miko & Raiden met the reader by chance & recognize them immediately."

Isn't fate the cruelest? Why can't time just stop for the poor girl? As she wipes the blood that stained her face, her shaky legs limp over to your side.

First, it was her friends. Then, she lost her sister. Now, it seems to be your turn. Just as she thought she would be able to stop destiny from stabbing her in the heart, you had to be another one of fate's victims.

Is she just unlucky? Do all the people around her simply... perish because of her? All she has now is Miko, but she isn't going to let anyone get hurt.

It doesn't matter how lonely she is, sacrifices must be made for the sake of her nation - at least that's what she had promised her people.

At least, that wasn't the version of the tale that you had heard. "But, her excellency seems so heartless. I never expected for her to have such a terrible backstory."

Yae laughed, a bit of a desolate tone laced in her words, "Ah, you wouldn't have even recognized her in the past. She used to be so much more emotional. After all, that isn't her."

Your eyes widened at the chief priestess, "It... isn't her?"

Yae nodded at you, leaning on the trunk of a tree nearby. Your head was filled with questions, who is the shogun really? What is her purpose? But most importantly, why is lady Guuji telling you all of this?

Yae's eyes stare at your confused face and could immediately predict the unanswered mysteries surrounding your brain. As if she could read your mind, Yae gives you the first explanation.

"That shogun that you saw near the Tenshukaku was nothing more than a puppet, a doppelganger of the true archon. The real electro archon created it... well, her, to simply take her place as the Narukami Ogosho."

She continues.

"If you're wondering where the real shogun is, then she's keeping herself out of sight in her Plane of Euthymia. More specifically, it's her consciousness."

You sit down quietly, carefully absorbing every bit of new information Yae is offering you. Whether it's true or not, it's better not to get on the nerves of the shrine priestess.

"I must add, she's done a great job. It had every citizen of Inazuma fooled for generations." Yae sighs in between her statements. "I just wish that she would come out of hiding and truly face her citizens instead of getting her puppet to."

Your mouth opens, as you turn your head to face Yae properly, "I understand her excellency's situation, but... why are you telling me all of this?"

"Oh? Well, that's simple. You'll be the one dragging her out of her hiding spot."

You jump back in shock, "How do you expect me to do it?! I'm just some ordinary citizen." Yae chuckles under her breath and her eyes scan your figure.

"Perhaps you don't remember yet, but you happen to be the lover of our dear shogun. I could recognize you almost immediately! You were never good at disguises, (Name)."

"B- but, how will I-"

"Ah, ah, ah, leave all the details to me. I have it under control. Just go out there and speak to her, she'll surely open her heart to you. If she doesn't, you don't have to worry, I've got some backup."

And there you were, forced to face have a divine audience judge your every move, amethyst eyes practically piercing through you. You shivered as the sound of a blade being lifted up echoed through the halls.

Shit, shit, shit. Why did you ever agree to this?! Did you really believe that you were some past lover of a god? How high and mighty did you think you were?

Your eyelids shut and your arms instinctively covered your body, preparing for any strike and the expected pain that would come from it as a result.

The somewhat eerie noise in the Tenshukaku disappeared, melting into a more calming one. You squinted your eyes open to see the dark red sky morph into a beautiful shade of blush red and pink.

"Ei?" You impulsively whispered the moment your eyes locked in contact with the electro archon. You took a small step closer before Ei unsheathed her blade to point it at you.

"Hey... Ei?" Her arms were shaking, you see the pent loneliness that she bottled up to herself.

Even with her blade aimed in your direction, it didn't seem like she had any ill intention to strike. "You sound like them." There's no way you're here, right?

Your hand lightly pushed the blade away from you, with nervous steps, you took another step closer. "You even have their features."

With every step, Ei seemed to be even more convinced that it was truly her lover right in front of her very eyes. Nonetheless, Ei was never a fan of changes to eternity, especially the ones that play around with her heartstrings.

Her shaky grip on her polearm tightened and became firm, Ei raised her blade and readied herself to slash you down. You almost immediately took note of her sudden change in attitude, stepping back and pulling the last trick up your sleeve out of desperation.

You fished out a Grand Narukami Shrine Omamori, hoping that Yae will arrive just as she promised you.

And she did, absolutely, she arrived in the nick of time.

"Ei, are you really going to hurt them?" Yae steps in between the little space you and Ei shared. "Do you really want to see their laying corpse again?"

Ei bites her lip, a bit out of annoyance, a bit out of blind hope. She wants to believe that it's you, but she knows you're gone. The sight of your lifeless body has been engraved in her memory for centuries.

"Miko, if this is one of your jokes, then it isn't funny." Her voice is stern, fierce, yet a bit melancholy.

Yae laughs it off, shaking her head, "Even I wouldn't joke about this sort of thing, I know your lover personally as well too. They were a good friend of mine."

Yae shifts a step back, a hand resting on your shoulder, "Come on, it's exactly like them. My memory is stronger than yours, Ei. I know them when I see them."

Ei hesitates, taking a proper look at your face again. She drops her blade to the ground. "Ei... have you missed me?" You awkwardly chuckled.

"Is it really you? Do you remember me? Us?"

You could see the hopeful glimmer in her eyes, the hand on her racing heart, her smile. It felt... all too familiar. "I don't have all of my memories, but I'm sure I'll unlock them - together with you."

Ei's grin grows wider, tears building up and flowing out like a soft waterfall. It was totally something you would say. The archon rushes into your embrace, delighted.

Yae Miko

You were just a shrine maiden, just someone that would help out occasionally. No more, no less. You had no clue at all why Lady Guuji decided to take interest in you. You were left with no answers, just questions.

Were you angry about it? Absolutely not. Lady Yae was a charming lady. Just as you would entertain Yae with your antics, she would entertain you back.

Once, you were able to catch the Miko without her earrings, it certainly was the most amusing to see Yae's ears raise out of shock from seeing you at the doorstep.

You had the luxury of petting her tail and ear, her cotton-candy-like fur was so soft, you could practically fall asleep in it.

It was fun, truly. Every single harmless prank and inside joke you would share with each other, your similar attitude and humor, it was truly a match made in heaven.

Why did it have to be this way? Who was the idiot that pushed you off of the Narukami's Shrine stairs? Why couldn't you just stand a bit closer?!

There was no point in blaming you, it wasn't your fault at all. It wasn't the pathetic fool who ran down the stairs and knocked into you either, it was her fault.

Why couldn't she have just installed railings? Was she so confident that no one would fall? Pfft, what's wrong with her?

Every single time her mind would wander back to that memory, the memory of your bloodied body, she couldn't help but shiver. She shivered at the thought that you're gone, that you aren't here, that she could have prevented the inevitable.

She was lonely, again. Without Ei, without you, without anyone to indulge in.

Things have died down after Inazuma had opened its borders. Travelers from all around finally have the chance to explore the closed-off nation and many have visited the Narukami Shrine.

The voices of many pollute what used to be a quiet and peaceful shrine. It was a disturbance, an annoyance even.

"Lady Yae! The visitors are asking for you to draw their fortune." A shrine priestess pops her head into the room where the kitsune rested in.

"Isn't Ringo doing that job?" The Miko blurts out, the noise reaching her room interrupting the short moments of rest she can handle.

"A- ah, there's a long line that Gendou Ringo can't handle by herself. Plus, there's a loud uproar for the line to go by faster. Our other shrine maidens are all occupied currently."

Yae certainly isn't interested in taking up that task at all. "Ask them to quiet down and tell them to properly pay their respects." She orders the shrine maiden.

As a result, the shrine maiden follows out with her orders, oblivious to the chance that she had given Yae to sneak out, aligning with her usual, mischievous nature.

As the Miko roams the forest, in search of any Youkai around or at least something to cure her lingering boredom.

"Sayu~?" Yae peeks behind every tree, looking for the Shuumatsuban. She's usually taking a nap or lazing around so as to not "stunt" her growth.

No luck, seems she'll have to keep wandering around.

Yae strolls through the forests, familiar with her surroundings. "Ah, perhaps I could find some tanuki wandering around?"

Nothing.

"An oni?"

Unlucky indeed.

"A tengu...?"

This is misfortune to a whole new level. She had nothing to entertain herself with, nor did she have anyone to enjoy her time with.

There was certainly no way she was returning to the Grand Narukami Shine though, her sensitive ears could still pick up on the faint voices from such a far distance. There was no way she would ever be able to find peace in such chaos.

"Lady Yae!" A large black cat approached her, jumping into her embrace. Hazel, beady eyes desperately looked at her, pawing at the skin. Many other smaller kittens followed right after and hid behind the Yae's legs.

"A Bake-Neko? What happened?"

The bake-neko's paws pointed deeper into the forest, "A prankster has been tormenting us! Please help us, lady Yae."

Well, you didn't need to say that again. If someone's causing trouble, she isn't some heroic deity that would jump in to help. Nonetheless, she's curious about this prankster, what could they be up to?

It seems like she's found a fruitful source of entertainment. Say no more to boredom and tranquility because it looks like her little adventure in the forest will prove to be most enjoyable.

Yae Miko lightly shoved the vines that blocked her path as she dove deeper into the forest. Admittedly, she wasn't the biggest fan of having to do so much work though.

Cold drafts of air pass by her once she finally makes a stop in front of a... pit hole? The Miko's agape mouth slowly twisted into a grin, then a chuckle, before she burst out laughing.

The shrouding mist that impaired anyone's clear vision of their surroundings, it was a trap. As a kitsune herself, she could feel the deep resemblance of her old traps in the long past.

If she wasn't now mixed up with other humans and her own duties as a Guuji, she would still be coming up with mischievous pranks such as this.

If you, my dear reader, couldn't piece everything together already, this is the work of another kitsune.

Just right on cue, a shadow dashes past the trees. Out of the corner of her eyes, the shadow of a figure stays hidden in the misty surroundings, but it was just visible enough for Yae to see their tails and ears sticking out.

"Damn, and I thought this trap would work well. It seems like I'll have to be more creative when trying to trick my own kind."

What a familiar voice, Yae mused.

"Aha, don't be like that. You can't expect to trick an expert like me. I'm wiser than everyone thinks."

The other kitsune nodded, clapping their hands rhythmically. "I suppose so, Miko." The other kitsune, well... you step out of the misty exterior to reveal your face and figure, heartily smiling at your lover.

"...(Name)?" The Guuji stares at you shocked. You look and seem so real, just like in the deepest corner of her memories, you just have ears and tails now.

Is this some kind of elaborate prank?

"Miko... how long has it been since we last had a meal together? I'm sure you're still fond of fried tofu."

No way. It's you. Yae stalls herself for a minute and thinks clearly, she doesn't know if this is some kind of devious plan to pull her guard down.

"Miko," You raise your arms open, waiting for a hug, "I still want to get another chance to see you in your fox form. You don't have to be so wary, it's unlike you."

Yae stops being so vigilant. She knows it's you, she can remember you as clear as day. With that thought that ran through her mind, the shrine priestess rushes into your embrace.

Wait.... wait, wait, wait. Why is the ground below her so soft? It's as if there wasn't any ground under her in the first place. Yae fells gravity tug her body down and she falls right on her back on a pile of leaves.

You gazed at the pink kitsune in the pit you prepared beforehand, satisfied with your accomplishment. "I got you!" You teased.

As the Traveler was walking by in the Konda village, they heard a very interesting conversation.

"Hey, did you hear about the commotion in Inazuma city? I heard that even the Raiden Shogun is involved in this!" An adult villager whispered to their one year older friend.

"Really? Is that why the Shogun's Army was acting so suspicious when I was in the city" They replied.

"Probably! But shush, don't talk about this to anyone, or else we will be caught! I don't want them arresting me for talking about very secretive things!" They started to walk off but heard a woman's charming voice.

"Oho! What are you talking about you two, indulge my curiosity won't you?" Said a silhouette of a tall woman.

"W-who's that!?" The older one said. Grabbing the younger one behind him. The woman's hair is platinum-blonde and some of it was shaped into 2 buns. Her skin is pale and she has a black mask covering half of her face. She's wearing a light red and white dress with black details, on her shoulders was a dark red and black coat. Behind her was floating a white catalyst.

They were shocked to see someone hearing and seeing them talk about the Commotion in the city. Once they could see her, they blushed hard when seeing her beauty.

"Don't be scared boy, it's just a question isn't it?" She said with a teasing voice.

"W-we were just talking about Inazuma City! Nothing more!" He tumbled in his words. Even when she looked really suspicious, they couldn't just accept how someone can be so charming and elegant. Her hair, her eyes and even the way she speaks was enough for them to lose themselves in her.

After they said it, she looked rather disappointed and angry, almost like she didn't get the answer she thought she would get. It was only for a second until she came back to her 'normal' self. She began walking to them, and looked straight in the eye, making them unable to leave or move themselves by thinking she would catch them.

"Little boy, could you tell me more details, please?" She pleaded, even though it was only an act because what did they think they are?

"... " They said nothing, too scared to say anything. Too lost in her beauty and dangerous looking face.

"C'mon, speak up… " She was losing her patience, slowly getting angry and more irritated.

"W-we talked about the commotion that even the Raiden Shogun was involved in… A-and that the Shogun's Army has been acting suspicious for 3 last days!"

"... That's all?" She said with disappointment, she looked almost as if she just wasted her time on something useless.

"Y-yes! That's all we know, and that's the truth!" He said quickly, trying to just run and never speak with her again. Although on the other side…

"I see, I see. Well then, I have a request… find out what's going on in Inazuma city and what is it about, okay? I will give you a reward" She said with no care at all and only thinking what's the commotion about.

"Y-yes miss! I will try t-to find some clues!"

"Good, you might find me… hm, somewhere in Inazuma City doing some business, give me the results in 3 days or less" She spoke harshly.

"Oh and… the name is La Signora. " The woman left.

As she left, they ran as fast as they could until they couldn't see her.

"H-hey, did you know her? She was so beautiful but probably so dangerous.. " The younger one said.

"H-hey man.. I think we just spoke with a Snezhnayan Diplomat" The older replied

".. What?! "

As The Raiden Shogun was pacing back and forth, she heard the doors opening.

It was the Traveller, probably coming to check up on the situation that was going on at Inazuma.

"How did you get in? Trespassers are to be eliminated at once" The Raiden Shogun said with clear shock and a puzzled face.

"Hey, don't treat us like we are your enemies! Paimon thought we are all clear now!!" Paimon said with semi-anger in her voice.

"Anyway, be gone. Do not disturb my solitude"

"Huh?! Since when do puppets need rest?"

"This body doesn't need rest, but I am an assistant to the one within. If she wishes to rest, then I must follow her request"

"Ohh so that's all Ei's doing! But why does she need rest? It's not our fault is it!" Paimon said with worry in her voice.

"I do as she wishes, I cannot say anything more than this" Shogun said when slowly losing her patience.

"But everyone is worried sick about you, why won't you leave Tenshukaku?" The traveler said curiously

She didn't say anything. For a minute it was very silent.

"Please refrain me from talking, any further details have been forbidden to say" She replied.

"Agh! It feels like the conversation is going nowhere! Are you by any chance sick or have you malfunctioned?" Paimon asked.

"Ah, it's you two, don't worry about the Shogun, she can't do much at the moment so come straight in" A voice within the puppet replied.

"Wha- Ah!" Paimon suddenly screamed when she saw pitch black before her eyes.

When the traveler and paimon could finally see, they saw Ei in the distance with a worried look on her face.

"What is it that you need, traveler?" She spoke calmly.

"Could've given us a little warning, It was so sudden!" Paimon screamed with her scared voice at her.

"Hm, It wasn't your first time here so I thought that you're already used to it" She replied casually with no care at all.

"We came here to ask you about what happened, we heard about the commotion in Inazuma City and that the Shogun's army has been acting suspicious these last 3 days" The traveler replied with a serious look on his face.

"Oh, so you're here about that… Hm, That's a serious and hidden topic, only the Tri-Commission should know about it, from where did u get it?" The Shogun said the last part quietly, her eyes darkening and almost as if you could've seen lightning in her eyes.

"When we were passing by the Konda Village, we heard 2 villagers talking about it but it looked like they knew only a little" The traveler replied in detail, saying everything they knew.

"Hm, I suppose this can work, thank you for the information, I'm gonna take care of that" She replied coldly.

"So Ei, can we now know about what happened?" Paimon asked her.

"As I said, only the Tri-Commission should know about it, you have no need of knowing the problem, although even if you could help, the less people know about it, the better" She replied, not wanting to talk about it.

"But Ei, if it's about you being sick then we could bring medicine or-" Paimon was cut by Ei's cold reply.

"Silence"
