ill be the first to admit that i dont interact with the gaa fandom as much as i should, so id be very glad to be wrong about this, but from my (admittedly very limited) observations in the fandom susatos talked about mostly in the context of a) other male characters(naruhodo, kazuma, mikotoba, holmes) or b) shipping. which is fine, it makes sense! shes not very attention grabbing in the game, and while she does have her goofy moments, shes not nearly as silly as the rest of the cast. shes more of a straightman than anything else. but shes such a good character and i really want to see more people talk about her so fuck it, were making the overdue susato rant ourselves gdi

i think a lot of people see susato as a #girlboss, which is true and undisputed, but ive never seen people dig into why. personally what sticks out to me is how determined she is. its overshadowed by kazuma, but she Clearly learned a few things. she was willing to travel halfway across the world to work as a judicial assistant, and in kazumas death she helped naruhodo become a lawyer in his stead. she broke the law to help naruhodo win ginas case, a decision that tore her up so much she nearly resolved to quit. and of course she won a fucking courtcase at the age of 16 while succesfully pretending to be a man. when she has a goal in mind, shes seeing it through. shes consistently pulled naruhodo out of (rightful) uncertainty and hesitation with this mindset. she followed kazuma, and then naruhodo, to the ends of the earth because she truly believed it was the right thing to do. shes competent in her work, and shes firm without being unkind.

thats another thing about susato. shes one of the most emotionally mature characters in the games (games filled with adults– iris is probably one of the few characters who rival her in that respect). shes emotional about the things shes passionate about, but shes never overwhelmed by it. the only scene i can think of where emotions really did overtake her was at the end of the first game, where she nearly threw her judicial book into the sea. which is,,, still relatively reasonable? she broke the law and had to leave britain to go back to japan. she couldnt practice as a judicial assistant anymore, and nobody back home had a need for her skills as a judicial assistant. why would she need it anymore? in every other instance, shes polite, calm, and most importantly, the heart of the whole cast.

because while shes a great character on her own, her main role in the story is always in servitude to others– whether that be as holmes number one fan, iris' big sister, or naruhodos ever-reliable judicial assistant. we never get the sense as to why until the 4th chapter of the last game, where her backstory is finally revealed. with it, a lot of who she is is recontextualized. she never had a mother and her father left her before she could have any real memories of him. shes headstrong and driven because there was no direction for her. shes compassionate and polite because her only role model for her formative years was her grandmother. shes emotionally mature because she learned what loss was at a young age and how to live with it alone. and all of that translates to a young girl with a fire to help others in whatever way she can.

shes just,,,, shes such a good character man. i love her.

Because Arya, in her human form, is also pretty tall for a "woman"! In her demon form she's roughly two and a half meters tall! And yes, Arya was born a demon! She was born to a royal family who rules over some parts of hell and has 12 siblings! She's the oldest out of all of them, however! Her parents were moth demons, so she took after them! Arya really does love her family, she has a good relationship with them, she's just a bastard by choice! And yes, her siblings are also moths, though they're much younger than her! Arya is roughly 236 years old, even if she is still very young! But then again, time works differently in Hell, so in our world she'd be maybe around 24 years old! So her siblings are anywhere between 30 and 210 years old! It's a bit difficult to tell you what all of them are like since there's so many of them and since there's such an age discrepancy, but generally speaking, they're not too bad! They're not downright cruel as the children of rulers, but they do use their privileges from time to time if they can! However, they wouldn't go out of their way to ask their parents to incarcerate someone just because they got the last piece of candy! The younger ones act more childish and immature than the older ones, but they normally do behave! Arya often takes care of her siblings when she can, but she's also out and about more often than not, going on adventures and seeing the world!

also ok maybe had a weird little freak moment yesterday :/ i was with lydia and needed to eat my godawful shitass sushi before going to the library so anyway who do i spot but the roommate with some random guy naturally and im like lydia pause i need to be a stalker but so casually for just like a sec. Sometimes he purposely shadow travels too much, for too long, not by necessity but just to then feel himself fade away.

Because for a few instants it's like he doesn't exist anymore, like he erased himself from the world and it feels right. Or maybe is it the adrenaline that follows being so close to disappearing, for an instant he feels glad to be alive.

#all my friends have offered is 'send a meme' which just gets me a heart react which is nice and all but i wanna SPEAK TO THEM. #and ive also done ~little random updates of my day~ which also works but on my days off i dont DO anything so i cant be like . #hey i rotted in bed all day what did you do #i feel like he's interested but shy ?? i guess ?? or maybe unsure if i feel the same way so he doesnt rly initiate #he did the other day just send me a photo of him working as a little life update which i took as a good sign :) and it sparked a short conv #i just dont know what to talk about or rather i wanna talk about literally everything but i dont wanna be annoyingggg #i dont know whats annoying and what isnt i guess is the main issue #he just got back from a 2 week work trip thing like working nonstop and normally we'd both be free tuesdays (tmrw) but since he JUST got #back today i figured it would be rude and/or seem desperate or clingy of me to ask if he wanted to hang this week #am i just crazy ?? oftentimes yes #it's also 10pm on a monday so i couldnt ask now anyway BUT I WOULD STILL LIKE TO JUST TALK #BUT I DONT WANNA BE ANNOYING all ive ever done in the past is annoy ppl or come off too 'weird' by just trying to get to know them #AND I DONT WANNA MESS UP THIS TIME CAUSE I THINK I DO GENUINELY LIKE THIS GUY IVE JUST NEVER BEEN IN THIS POSITIONNNNN #ITS NEVER FELT REAL #OK BYE
