I never liked the Traitor twist. If I were given a chance to rewrite it, here's how I would've done it.
Instead of a traitor, it would instead be a person with a quirk to travel as a shadow, that would explain how they would be able to get the information for the USJ and the Training Camp. and Izuku could even have a bit of a meetup with them who blackmails him into keeping quiet about who they are or else they'll reveal he's the reason All Might retired.
They're a spy for hire, charging a hefty price to spill/keep secrets to villains. As being in the shadows can help with learning various things about people, no matter how big or small.
And to top it all off... they were previously a student of Aizawa's class that was expelled for "not having enough potential" Thus they couldn't face their family and ran away from home, becoming a villain.
This would show the effects of Aizawa's expulsion and how it's not as clear cut as he thinks it is, that it actually has negative consequences and where his students might end up. This would make Aizawa think twice and realize that his expulsions did more harm than good and now it's come back to hit him with the cold reality.
Hi @theloganator101 👋,
That is an excellent rewrite of the Traitor twist because how Hori wrote it in canon it just doesn't make sense.
1) Yuuga should have been caught way before now. He doesn't have invisibility to conceivably sneak around the way that Toru does. And UA should have security cameras.
2) He is one of the bottom students of the class. An argument could be made that he was hiding some of his skill set but Hori doesn't set that up (unlike that moment in the sports festival when he did for Kaminari) beyond occaisional fourth wall breaks.
3) What even is Aoyama doing as traitor? I've seen @justatalkingface talk about how they would have utilised the traitor plot and it is so scary and narrative breaking how AFO could have used this effectively yet he just didn't... For some reason. (A DFO argument could be made here, yet even if this theory turns out being true, AFO has no reason not to go after All Might, the rest of the staff and students properly.)
4) How is he getting Info to AFO directly without the staff / students with hearing quirks finding out? This just is a plot hole. Perhaps Yuuga didn't call, perhaps he passed on coded messages to his parents, perhaps... Nothing. This is giving Hori too much credit. You can't tell me Nedzu didn't monitor communications of everyone when they were in the dorms via the schools wifi / network. Nedzu should think something is suss especially if a student is talking with their parents in code.
5) The parallels with Izu are perhaps the only positive thing about this. But even that is utilised poorly. Izuku isn't allowed to reflect on his own past once when this Aoyama situation should have opened a lot of old wounds for him. Izuku wasn't allowed to think of the grey area of this situation once he brushed off Mic's concerns that they were all victims here along with Toru and Ojiro's hurt to tell Aoyama "you can still be a hero." While this is nice for Yuuga (since he was a traitor by force) it brushes off everyone elses feelings on the matter. Izuku has become more and more black and white as a character (and in his views) and this starkly highlights it.
Furthermore, your version where a villainous ex-student of Aizawa's with a shadow quirk is the cause of the traitor suspicions is much more interesting and plausible.
It would make more sense for them to be able to sneak around undetected.
It confronts Aizawa with the devastating impact of his teaching without any narrative cushioning.
It encourage Aizawa to grow as a teacher or quit after getting 1A through their first year.
This would tie the class closer together rather than tearing them apart and pitting members against each other (which is why I dislike the Izuku vs 1A fight along with how this Traitor arc was handled.)
It makes Nedzu look like less of a moron in general for the disbelief of Mic suggesting there is a traitor because he wouldn't be able to see any evidence of one in the cameras or student communications.

Ron can't stop bouncing from one foot to the other, but Tom isn't in much better shape, considering he's staring at his watch every two seconds. The airport is particularly full, considering it's March and they are in the middle of the fucking nowhere and the only people on the island are Navy personal and the general population. That probably counts around seven thousand people on a good day. Animals, between the domesticated and the wild, are almost more than people. Ron loves his fucking job sometimes, because that island is their little side of paradise and they're both waiting for the people who are going to make it all even better. They're going to be around long enough, two! whole! weeks!, that they'll have the time to learn to love that place as they should.
I swear to God I'm going to steal a jet and find that fucking plane myself if they don't walk in right now Ice grumbles, and Slider couldn't agree more. Waiting is nerve-racking. Ron finds himself patting his best friend on the shoulder, trying to comfort him and himself too. It took them a month and a half of continuing changing shifts, asking for favours, and flying out during the night to get this time, and they're so eager to start they're buzzing out of their own skin. In all the good ways, because it was all worth it, but that doesn't make them less tired.
Then the first passengers of their flight start to stroll in, and Ron's heart is beating so fast he thinks it's going to leave his body any moment now. Maverick is the first one of the three to be seen, and the pilot is almost running towards Ice, bags forgotten a couple of steps behind them, and when they are near each other, he leaps in his arms and Ice hugs, and they both almost land on the ground from the enthusiasm, laughing and kissing so much he almost misses when his people arrive. Almost but not quiet because Carole takes a page out of Maverick's book and jumps between his arms and hodwy baby, before kissing him so hard he feels like reaching heaven without moving. Carole, let me say hello to him, share a little love, and she's laughing as he tries desperately to breathe before Nick kisses him, hands around his face and moustache tickling his upper lip. Hey big guy he murmurs after they separate. We missed you, he adds before kissing him again. Ron can't even find the words because he's smiling and kissing Carole and hugging Nick, a step away from bursting and melting away. Oh hon' Carole murmurs, still between his arms, we're going to make these two weeks the best of your life. Are you ready for us? she whispers, caressing his hair, and yes, yes, he's so ready. He takes Nick's hand in his and begins walking towards the airport's exit.
They're halfway to the car, Carole giggling in his arms and Nick talking a mile a minute about the flight and how much the hates flying commercial for more than twenty minutes when Ron looks around and he realises something is missing. Where's Tom? he asks to nobody in particular. Ah, don't worry, big guy, they're going to find their way to the base soon enough Carole answers, exchanging a knowing look with Nick. It's Maverick we're talking about, and they hadn't seen each other for months. Mav was a step away from taking his jet here. Fuck the consequences Goose adds, before taking his keys from the back pocket of his cargo pants. I want to swim in the sea before we go back home. What do you think?
We're going skinny dipping; no need for a swim truck, if you get what we're saying, she smiles again, looking over Nick and then Ron. Oh. Oh, these two are going to kill him in the best way. And I have my Polaroid camera with me, so get ready to take pictures everywhere!
(Sixteen days later, Nick, Carole and Pete are on a plane, and they're back on duty. On the bedside table in Ron's room there are three photos, one for each place Carole and Nick decided was the best place on the island, and they're the first things Ron sees when he wakes up, making one day happier than the previous one.)
(Tom takes a picture of the five of them on their jet, and puts it near an old one of him and Pete. They should change your callsign to Sweetman Ron jokes. Go fuck yourself, Ronnie, Tom rebuts, but he's laughing and his cheeks are a little red.)

Chapter 13: Paid Vacation.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
“Just until this all dies down, think of it as a paid vacation.” The words rang out in my head as the phone call played again and again. I got too comfortable, I got too cocky….of course, they’d be mad about this….of course, there were consequences….ones I had to pay. I opened Twitter again, refreshing the search bar on my name…Why did I have to pay? Weren’t they happy? Weren’t we all happy? Was I using them? Just making a name for myself before leaving? Was I just…lying? How are there more pictures?
I felt the tears sting behind my eyes calling for me to be fired. My throat tightening and drying out. Were we not happy Mingi?....Yunho?
“Final Boarding call for flight 1896 for Seoul….Final Boarding.”
I got up from my seat and made my way to the gate stowing my phone away. Do I listen to the company….or do I risk everything and run back?
The chime of my plane ticket rang out.
“Welcome Aboard.” the flight attendant smiled sweetly.
“Thank you.” I nodded and made my way on.
We’ll send someone to get you at the airport, don’t worry this will all be dealt with. The text messaged from the CEO stated. The messages left on read.
 Where are you? I don’t know anymore Yunho…..I’m scared….
The flight was long, I couldn’t sleep. Couldn’t work on anything. I threw up three times. I pulled up my hoodie and left for baggage claim. I could get my camera, get to the company headquarters and I could explain myself. Of course people found out what plane I was on..of course I was the target of all the girls yelling at me to leave the boys alone, get fired for inappropriate conduct… It was one date…. I just need my camera and then I can leave if I can just get it. It was one date…one kiss…
I pulled my bag off the belt and made my way to the driver they sent for me, more insults hurled my way. We got in the van and I opened my camera bag only to find tears falling from my eyes….my equipment…my lenses, my stand…my camera…broken. I bit my lip for the third time, blood pooling from the tear I created.
“We’ll get you a new one, it’ll be okay.” the driver said upon realizing my horror.
“It’s fine.” I whispered. “I won’t need it.”
My phone began buzzing, Mingi. Just let it ring. Pretend you’re sick. Anything.
"Y/N thank you for coming back. Look, we'll get all this handled, just take a break, let everything calm down and we'll get you back out there." CEO Kim sat me down. "We'll say it was all a misunderstanding, I mean you three have known each other since high school. You kids are going to go out sometimes, it's perfectly normal."
"The fans…" I mumbled into the floor.
"We'll worry about the fans. They'll be fine, you know how people can be."
"They're calling for me to get fired for unprofessional conduct for going out for sushi with my partner."
"I know y/n….this is going to be rough but we'll get through it. Think of this as a paid vacation. Just give it some space."
Yeah…. space.
"Are you going to tell them?" I looked at my phone ringing again.
"Here." He held out his hand for my phone.
He got up and answered my phone call. I couldn't listen, he was telling Mingi I just needed to take a leave. I'd just be working from the home offices for a while and that there were already great photographers on hand and they would be in good hands. They were right….right?
“Y/n, take the day off, go home. Get some rest. Just take it easy and call me when you’re ready ok.” Kim looked at me. “They understand, you’re going to be okay, let this die down.”
I nodded and was lead back to the van leading me home to my apartment.
It’s cold here. No let me rephrase that…there’s no warmth here. I can pile on all the blankets I own and I still don’t feel them. I threw my phone down, alert after alert, tweet after tweet. I couldn’t take it. So I sat there. I curled up in my couch and I sat there.
I didn’t move for four days. Turning off the tv when the news got to talking about music, the mysterious girlfriend all over social media, and music news, everywhere. Fans were waiting for KQ to make a statement, everything was crashing down. I was ruining everything by being selfish….I wanted them both…I flew too close to the sun. My dad always told me, I’d never be good enough. I picked up my phone one more time….One text…

After a while of searching, Gem found a spell that'll temporarily turn Pearl human So once Gem made sure it won't backfire and or won't have unforeseen consequences Gem used it on Pearl and it worked! Though, Gem did have to lend Pearl some extra clothes she stole from a clothesline a few weeks ago along with an extra cloak to help her hide The first week of travel was rough. Gem was constantly on edge but Pearl didn't know why as Gem never told her anything more than that people are looking for her, though Gem eventually did open up and said that she'd be executed. Pearl was absolutely furious, like, she knew that people who didn't match up with humans were on shaky ground but to be straight up killed!? After that Pearl got rather clingy and defensive of Gem, clinging and grabbing onto her when they sleep. Or more accurately, when Gem sleeps as Pearl doesn't want both of them to sleep at once as they'll be vulnerable despite Gem assuring Pearl that it'll be fine since they're far away from the village Gem ran from now but Pearl just doesn't listen, on the plus side, Pearl gets to hold Gem while she sleeps and when Pearl is asleep, Gem carries her around Pearl struggled to learn human social systems and how regular people act but Gem patiently helped Pearl, she even taught Pearl how to read and write! Gem was so good to Pearl, she stole food, clothes and other things Pearl needed/wanted such as finding secluded bodies of water and turn Pearl back to a mermaid to swim in it. It only served to make Pearl fall in love more, so Pearl started to try courting the elven wizard It went about as well as you expect with a mermaid that barely knew about elves and their culture trying to court one. On the plus side, they finally found a home in an abandoned cabin near a beach and a village so both of their needs are met This does not solve Pearl's problem on trying to court an increasingly oblivious wizard, Pearl learned the hard way that Gem is book smart and book smart only with a few exceptions and one of those exceptions are not love
first part, second part
Things are... Idyllic. They're perfect, really. Perfect except for the fact Pearl doesn't know how to show Gem how much she cares about her. She even reads up on human mating rituals! Yet, it doesn't seem like anything seems to be getting across to Gem. They tend their garden, Gem practices her magic freely and Pearl can swim as much as she likes.
Pearl decides, clearly, she needs to step things up a bit. She gets a big stick, tracing a message into the sand. That evening, she takes Gem by the hand, leading her down to the coast. And there, written into the sand, are the words 'Will you go out with me?'
Gem, of course, asks if it's as friends, and Pearl nearly screams. So she just kisses her instead. They stare at each other, little out of breath. And Gem finally whispers, "Oh."

How would the lost boys react to their s/o dieing in the fight of the vamps vs emersons separate or poly i do not mind
First off, I am so sorry for the delay with this!!
Second, this is what I imagine!
How The Lost Boys React To Their S/O Dying
Tumblr media
MAJOR TW: Death, Grief, S*icidal Thoughts
Tumblr media
The boys are incredibly close with one another. They're a pack and the bond they share is truly powerful. Adding a lover to the mix only strengthens it. To lose even one member of their family would be pure torment.
In the movie, the boys all went through their own, gruesome deaths at the hands of the Emersons and Frogs. Their S/O would most likely experience the same kind of pain.
Any sense and logic would be completely abandoned if their S/O was killed. The boys would give in to their animalistic sides, consumed by darkness with only the thought of slaughtering whoever took their beloved away.
This blind rage would potentially lead to their own deaths. They just get so careless when the vampiric bloodlust takes over. In a way, they wouldn't even think about the consequences of being careless.
If the story goes the same and they all meet their demise, in a way, they would accept it. In the final moments before their deaths, they would wish to see their S/O again in the next life.
If the story went differently and they came out on top, they would destroy the two families in the slowest, most agonizingly painful way possible. Consequences with Max be damned.
Even so, it would be a bittersweet ending. The boys can't imagine living for decades and centuries without their love. There will always be a missing piece of their hearts, and life would feel meaningless.
After getting their revenge, the boys would band together to put their S/O to rest the way they deserve; with respect and love.
Their beloved's resting place would be in the deepest part of the cave. They consider it to be home, and they don't want to risk anyone disturbing their resting place.
The boys would collect flowers in a variety of colors and make the gave as beautiful and special as possible for their beloved. It would also have a headstone with the name of their S/O and a loving message for them.
They'd gather together, silently saying goodbye to their love. The boys would get emotional. Some of them may even break down in tears. They would embrace one another, and grieve as a pack. It could take months for them to fully process their pain. Maybe even years.
They may find the strength to keep going and live their lives to the fullest for the sake of their S/O. However, they would never seek out a new lover. The four of them would find love and comfort in each other, but they just don't have the strength to open their hearts again.
Such loss would make them even more monstrous. They spared humans who were innocent and minded their own business before, but afterwards, they wouldn't care who they killed for their meal. They just become so bitter towards humanity because it's what killed their S/O.
They each visit the grave when they miss their beloved. David silently looks at the headstone, wishing he knew what to say. Dwayne brings fresh flowers for their lover as a "gift". Paul will sit by the grave and talk about good things that have happened recently. Marko will lay beside the grave and cry because he longs to hold his love one last time.
Some days are better than others. Some days they can't bring themselves to leave the cave. It's just a lot for them, and they'll never truly be the same. When their final days come and the sun consumes them, they will think only of their beloved.

If You're Lonely Come be Lonely with me
Tumblr media
Carlos and Tk have been fighting for months. Small fights. Stupid fights. But they're becoming more frequent, and the consequences are becoming more serious. Tk's four months pregnant, and they have three children already, so he's stressed out of his mind, but he also tends to forget that Carlos is also stressed out.
He washed his APD hoodie after work two weeks ago, and Tk had a meltdown. He just started crying and when Carlos tried to comfort he hissed at him. Why was he sobbing over the APD hoodie being wased? Because it wouldn't smell like alpha and Carlos would have to wear it before he could wear it.
And Carlos got upset with him about it because really!? He shouted at him, which, in hindsight, maybe that wasn't the brightest idea on his part. Because it just made his pregnant mate more upset, cry harder, and then inevitably throw up all over the floor.
Carlos slept on the couch to give the omega space.
The next morning went smoother but then they got in a fight again over something stupid that now he can't even remember.
For two weeks they were fighting over stupid shit at least once a day.
Carlos knew they were fighting a lot more than they ever have in the past, but he didn't expect to come home and find divorce papers on the kitchen table. Divorce papers Tk's already signed. He feels like he's just been punched in the gut. His heart.
When his oldest, Adrienne, toddles over to him to say goodnight, he wants to cry. "Say goodnight to Papa," comes Tk's soft voice as he walks into the living room with their twin boys on his chest.
"Night Papa," Adrienne whispers as Carlos picks her up to give her a hug. He squeezes her gently, she purrs and snuggles into him.
"Goodnight, Adrienne," he murmurs. "You brush your teeth?"
"Mhm," she hums, grinning real wide to show her white teeth.
"Good," he smiles, setting her down. She hugs Tk's legs before running off into her bedroom.
The twins, Bentley and Gabriel, are still falling asleep on Tk's chest. He brings them over to get hugs and kisses from Carlos before taking them to their nursery. "Night, babies," Tk whispers, tucking them in and giving them kisses.
"Night mama," they whisper while he gets them,
"Snug, as a bug, in a rug," he coos.
He goes in to kiss Adrienne goodnight one more time before padding back out to Carlos, cracking both of their bedroom doors so they have have just a tiny bit of hallway light as their nightlight.
"Hey," he whispers to Carlos.
Carlos feels like he's in between falling and crying, and just shutting off. He looks at Tk with cow eyes, and the omega can feel his heartache. "Tk... why?" he whispers. "Why did you- I don't understand. Baby, why? Tell me what to do to fix this, please."
Tk shakes his head, wiping his cheek before he can start crying himself. "The babies were picking up on the fighting," he says. "We've just- there's just something wrong between us and I don't know what it is but I don't think this is working anymore and I don't want them to see it anymore."
"So you want a divorce?" Carlos asks. "Tk, how it that helping them? That is what your parents did and did it help? No. It didn't." He's on the verge of growling at him.
"I would rather my parents divorced then at each other's throats," he whispers. "They're young. We can make this work, make this easy for them. So they'll get used to it."
"Adrienne is four and the boys are two," he says, "that's old enough to know there's something wrong. That's old enough to be confused. That's old enough for the change to not be easy for them."
"Carlos we just can't do this anymore," he says. "Okay?"
"No. Not okay," he whispers, pulling Tk close by his biceps. "Tk please. Give us some time to work this out. Go to counselling? I don't even know how this started- please baby. I am begging  you."
Tk's lip wobbles and he shakes his head. "I'm sorry."

You return to your dormitories or wherever you call home here in Garreg Mach monastery and fall asleep just as you have every night for the last two moons: peacefully and easily. The humdrum of daily life has consigned Pasithee and her threats to the world of dreams, along with the elaborate illusion that had returned you briefly to your homelands. With the cool spring breeze coming in through your window and the full moon high in the clear sky, sleep comes to you almost at once.
You awaken to the sound of shouting. A crowd is making demands in the street below. Others are crying out in the courtyard, "Look up there! What is that!?" You peer out your window to a world that feels different than the one you had fallen asleep in. A thick layer of grey clouds has blotted out the sky and the sun, shrouding the monastery in a timeless fugue, but you look up at them nonetheless. Three long gashes open parts of the sky up to unfathomable darkness, tattered around its edge like tears in fabric. "What is that?" you wonder in sync with the cries from below.
But you think you might know.
Black Eagles Mission: Quell public panic!
The world is in a state of disarray and the peace of yesterday is long gone now. The church calls together the Black Eagle house to deal with the panic that has ignited across Fódlan. Oddly, these problems seem to have been growing for months, not days. No one seems to trust each other, and the sensation of helplessness that coils around your chest when you realize that you are just one small group seems almost unbearable, but you try to help nonetheless.
BE Mission Task Board
No matter where you go, everyone seems convinced that these are unsafe times and everyone wants a little extra security— some want it directly in their hands even. It's no shock then that there are rumors of an arms dealer smuggling weapons through the port. If left unchecked, something could happen between civilians or worse, all these weapons could be used to outfit a nearby noble's independent army, giving an opportunity for a more widespread assault. Finding out where these weapons are coming from and who they're going to might be in the continent's best interest then. [Grants Reason +1]
Lately, complaints from the Duchy of Aegir have reached all students whose relatives live there, all connected by their discontent with the new absurdly high taxes compared to before. The well-to-do are making a fuss, and those with even less are having an even harder time with it. Consequently, rumors begin to break of the commoners of Aegir banding together to revolt. Perhaps it might be best to intervene in some way…
One of the largest farms in the Adrestian countryside has recently been ravaged, ruining an entire season's potential yields. Signs of crops being trampled and rows of plants being burnt to no more than lines of ash suggest sabotage, and so the farmers are pointing fingers at anyone and everyone that could potentially fit the bill of saboteur. If you can't fix the problem, the farmhands are demanding you at least find the culprit or they'll find them themselves, but with their pitchforks at the ready. Can their sense of 'justice' truly be relied upon right now?
A once flourishing village finds itself with no drinking water from any of its typical sources. Meanwhile, their struggling neighbor has uncharacteristically begun to prosper, having plenty of clean drinking water for themselves. Though they could share the water, the two villages refuse, claiming that historically doing so only leads to both not having enough to supply for their own. As things stand, conflict seems inevitable… [Grants Authority +1]
While traveling outside of the monastery, you might need to find some establishment where you can sit down and eat. However, there's been stories of an increase in street brawls breaking out as of late. Supposedly, ruffians have started making trouble with family businesses, finding any complaint they can possibly make with the service to justify bargaining for free goods, and if the business resists, then it comes to a matter of hands being thrown. Even a simple lunch can end with a fist fight nowadays… [Grants Gauntlets +1]
Non-Mission Task Board
The idyllic past two months feel like a dream - and maybe they were - as the perpetual stormclouds holding steady and inert over the sky seem to blanket you in a world of foreboding. Pasithee is likely preparing an attack, so the bishops of the church say, and the monastery needs its defenses shored just in case. It will take every free hand to gather weapons for the strongholds and fill sandbags in the event of all-out war. Everything you've learned from your classes so far will finally have a practical use. Make sure you and your allies are battle-ready. [Grants Lance +1]
Days pass and the strange tears in the sky have not yet closed up. In fact, they seem to be growing larger, or maybe your mind is playing tricks on you. When you find yourself with a free day, you decide to gather a reliable companion or two to climb the tallest point you can find and try to get a better look at what lies on the other side.
The meals in the dining hall have been getting smaller and smaller, and less and less extravagant as ingredients are shifted for the use of making rations. The kitchen has banned hobbyist cooks to prevent a waste of supplies, which means, if you're an aspiring cook, you have to find other ways to procure your ingredients, or if you're just a picky eater, you'll need to consult with your allies for creative ways to dress up your rations. Some even resort to making bets and dares in order to force others to give up their portions.
Someone - or something - has been disturbing graves in the monastery's graveyard. The knights are busy with preparations for the monastery's defenses, and so patrols to the site have not been a priority. If you have some rare free time, would you bring peace back to these departed souls? Then find the culprit, even if it means having to spend the night surrounded by the dead.
Amid all the gloom and doom, there have been rumours of a pop-up ice cream parlor come to lighten the mood. Trouble is, it's a fairly exclusive set-up, and is never seen twice in the same place. Maybe you've been lucky enough to receive an invitation, or have a friend who can show you the way. The Ice Creamatory welcomes all who should find their way. But as you leave, delicious treat in hand, one of the letters on the sign falls, revealing the shop's true name: The Ice Crematory - which begs the question: just what have you all actually been eating...? Better go stop the shopkeeper from running if you'd like to find out. [Grants Riding +1]
Frequently Asked Questions
How does the divided task board work?
This season’s mission is assigned to the Black Eagles muses. Therefore, tasks from the ‘Black Eagles Mission Task Board’ must be undertaken by someone that is affiliated with the Black Eagles house. However, they may choose to perform the task with someone who is not from their group as well. In logistical terms, this means that if you play a non-BE muse and want to do a mission task, you must ask someone who plays a Black Eagles muse to thread with you. All thread participants will still receive any skill point rewards. Tasks from the ‘Non-Mission Task Board’ have no house restriction and can be undertaken by anyone.
These aren’t the only threads I can do, right?
Of course not! These are just prompts to help give some ideas of possibilities. You’re always free and encouraged to make up your own threads.
If my muse is not a Black Eagles muse, can I still write an open starter for the mission tasks?
Yes, but only the non-mission tasks. Your character must be affiliated with the Black Eagles to write an open starter for this season’s mission.
How do I claim the skill points?
In order to qualify for the skill point, the thread must clearly allude to the listed task and preferably feature the task being completed. However, you can still claim the skill point if your characters narratively fail. You do not need to message the masterlist to claim your skill point.
Can I only do one task?
Nope, you can do as many as you’d like with as many different partners as you’d like! You can do the same task with more than one person! However, you can only claim any skill points once.
Remember to use (and track!) the #toa open tag for any open threads, and you can also post a link to your open thread on the appropriate Discord channel! If you have any other questions or concerns, shoot us a message through the masterlist or on Discord!

Hello, hope you're going well! You introduced me to dimension20 and I love it so thank you!!
What advice would you give to a first-time DM?
Thanks in advance and have a wonderful week!
That's so awesome! I'm so glad you found D20, I love them so much! <3 What are you watching at the moment? I'm into Neverafter, as you probably know 😉, but my absolute favourite is Misfits and Magic. It's just four episodes, but everyone is absolutely killing it, it's so much fun!
Are you thinking about taking the plunge and go see what the gras looks like from the other side of the screen? That's really awesome! Ok, here's what I know (I've only GMed a couple of sessions yet, so it's all very new for me, too^^):
- I think there's a few things you probably should decide in advance, with your players or alone: what genre and tone you wanna hit, and if you wanna homebrew your world completely, play in a campaign setting like Eberron or Wildemount, or play a module with a storyline. Essentially, the question is how much of a world builder and overarching story crafter are you?
- When we decided on a campaign setting, it was important for me to let my players know that it's my Eberron, and that things will probably be different from the books. It gave me the freedom to improvise, which I absolutely needed.
- Have a session zero, it's really important. You need to make sure you and your players are on the same page about genre and tone. Also, you need to communicate any limitations on character creation. I told them they all have to find a reason to work at this one newspaper. Another thing is establishing lines and veils, and other safety tools. Google them, they're important. I think it's best to keep an open document somewhere everyone has access to, so it can be added on by everyone. Also, talk about logistics (when, where, how often, how do you handle food, etc.). You can also make your characters together, maybe they'll find the first touching points (two characters already know each other, etc.)
- Character creation is a process, I find. I love being involved in it, it helps me get to know the characters before we play, and it can be a very creative process for both you and your player.
- I don't think of it as 'writing a story', because that's really not what I'm doing. I'm 'yes, and'-ing my players with story. I'm putting stuff in front of my PCs and see what they do with it. Then I take their reactions and make up new stuff based on what they did. And by stuff I mean plot beats, world building details, monsters, puzzles, etc. And sometimes I do it on the spot at the table, and sometimes I do it at home in preparation. Both are equally valid.
- I think of my 'story' as layered storybeats. I know the overall layer: what happened in the past, and what different factions and sometimes my PCs want to happen in the future. Everyone at the table knows the present, and I have planned stuff for the near future. But the near future can change based on what's happening at the table. And sometimes, those changes mean the overall layer of the story also needs to change, past and future.
- It's only canon if you said it at the table. It was very important for me to realise, because it gave me the freedom to shape what's happening into a good story. And if I have to change a past my PCs don't know about yet to make it fit the story we're currently telling, of course I'll change it. I don't tell my players, though. For me as GM, both past and future is to be decided; for my players, the past needs to be fixed to be discovered, and the future theirs to influence.
- Take notes. Lots of notes. Details, people you made up, things to come back to, things that affect other things, consequences, etc. I haven't found a good way to organise them yet, but I keep a detailed session log, and also files on places and the people/organisations associated with them.
- I reskin monsters all the time. Making them look different, or taking a more dangerous monster and nerf some of its abilities, etc. I feel it serves me better that way.
- Encounter building is difficult in general, so I started small. I used kobold fight club for the first three encounters, but for the bbeg I made a character sheet and just went to town. I also adjust at the table, both how many monsters there are, and sometimes their abilities.
- Don't plan more than your next session. Maybe some shops and stuff like that, but I find it easy to improvise these things at the table. Remembering them after is the more interesting task here^^
- What you need is a good understanding of the setting and the world, but you don't really need to know every detail. Think about the mechanics of things, and details will follow logically. For example, the main communication device in my Eberron are crystals, so newspapers are also distributed by it. Which means there are big crystal screens in every city and town for the public, and also private news crystals for the wealthy. My newspaper also has a squad of low-level magic users who send news articles in a chanting ritual every Tuesday and Friday morning to these crystals. The rest of the time they use divination magic to check facts, establish timelines and connections, etc.
- Make a list of names, it'll come in really handy.
- I don't really concern myself with my player's character sheets. I sometimes ask for clarification, and sometimes my players do and I make a ruling, but overall, I trust them to know their shit, especially in a fight where I'm busy running everything else.
- I was so fucking jittery before my first session. I couldn't sleep, couldn't eat, and my nerves kept me on adrenaline the whole day. If you have this too, practice your first sentences, it helps. And tell your players, they will be very understanding.
- There is a lot more out of game communication involved than you'll think. Depending on the type of campaign you're running, you'll need check ins and aftercare and sometimes just talking and shooting the shit together. I think of it like a BDSM session, because it can be just as emotionally intense sometimes. And even if it's just a lighthearted thing, make sure everyone is alright after a session, even if it's just a quick check in the next day.
- Give yourself some grace. A lot of it, actually. You're new to this, and it is a lot. Something Aabria once said helped me so much. She said something like: 'But see me in six months'. And it's true. I learned so much with every session, and I'm still learning. I put a lot of it down in my 'dming' tag, so you can see for yourself and follow my progress if you like.
It's a lot of work, nonny, and it's a lot of fun. I'm not sure if I like it better than being a player, but it certainly has made me into a much better player, even after a few sessions. Try it out for yourself, and let me know what you think.
Edit: I got a lot of this stuff from Adventuring Academy, or the GMs of Exandria Round Table, or Matthew Colville.

If Beale Street Could Talk (2018)
Thoughts on the film and novel. I read it before I saw it.
It's a different type of love story, one where the love is absolute. Usually you have a love story where one or more of the characters have to question "is this the one for me"? There is no room to question Tish and Fonny's love for each other. They have truly loved each other since they were kids. The real drama in the story is whether the world is gonna love them back and let them be together. Whether they'll get lucky or not, because it takes luck not to get fucked over by a system that excludes you. Will the racist, white-dominated society ever let up; and if not accept their existence, then at least be uninvolved/unaroused by it? No, they are aroused by it. The white men depicted in the film are just a reflection of reality in 1970s America and present-day. Their superiority complex is so baked into them by historical coincidence that many of them can't sit still nonviolently if a black person comes into their line of sight. And that's exactly the situation Fonny has to deal with in If Beale Street Could Talk. He was arrested by a white cop for a crime that he didn't commit, all because of his actual offense; walking home while black. It is as simple and cold as that. This might be James Baldwin's fictitious story but it's informed by a well sourced history of black oppression.
The big dilemma in the story is Fonny's imprisonment. To make matters more dire Tish informs her love that she is pregnant during one of her first visits at Fonny's jail. As stated before he was just minding his business one night when a cop decided Fonny fit the description for a suspect in a recent rape case. A young Puerto Rican woman was the victim of this heinous crime, but since it happened in the dead of night she didn't get a good look at who did it. The police department rounded up guys off the street and convinced young Victoria that Fonny was the one who did it. Part of the tragedy of Beale Street is the state pitting these two persecuted minorities against each other. The state has no 'real' proof to link Fonny to the crime. Unfortunately, as Tish's sister puts it in the book "We have to disprove the state's case. There's no point in saying that we have to make them prove it, because, as far as they're concerned, the accusation is the proof." Guilty until proven innocent. James Baldwin would probably be depressed but not surprised to find out not much has changed about the justice system in America.
What I find most gripping is the realness of the characters. Not just the young adults Tish & Fonny, but their families too. Tish's family has a crude vocabulary and domineering attitude towards anyone not in their corner. They, like many in their community, are jaded by the world they grew up in. They are just finding ways to cope and not explode. Not explode just for their families sake. For Fonny and the baby's sake. They love one another and to them that means speaking uncomfortable truths, like holding no punches when talking about the sins of white people. And sins not in the religious sense because their family justifiably has lost faith in any grand fairness that religions so often preach. Fonny's biological 'family' on the other hand drinks the Christian cool-aid hard. Well his mother and sisters do. They don't see Fonny's incarceration as an injustice, but as a consequence of his impurity. Impurity of having a child so young, marrying so young, not being pious enough, etc etc. The only family member that truly supports him is his father Frank. Baldwin is showing us through his characters that we're all imperfect. We are products of our circumstances and environment, like the wood Fonny crafts into sculptures. What perfect symbolism by Baldwin.
The innocence of this couple's love is something that really comes through in both the screen and the original novel. I did feel the film relied too heavily on its long silent stares between the protagonists. They're meant to evoke a love that is so powerful it needs no words, but after a while these scenes get too tedious and uninteresting. I think the film adaptation kept close to Baldwin's work though, but since I inevitably compare it to the novel I just feel it came short of being as powerful. Part of it could be just simply that this is James Baldwin’s story, not the director Barry Jenkins' original work (Like Moonlight was, and which I think is a 10 of 10 film). There was however one semi-big detail the film didn't adapt, and that's the presumed suicide of Fonny's father at the end of the drama. In my opinion that omission is very significant. It softens the power of the story. A thought I think now that describes the film overall. Jenkins himself hints at at in an interview with IndieWire that his film was more about the love story. I think Baldwin's original story is about hurt, hurt, and more hurt with love trying to survive it all. And Fonny's father committing suicide after facing the fact that his son is not getting out of prison is a crucial moment of that hurt. Baldwin obviously thought it was crucial because it’s literally the last thing that happens in the book. Presumably Baldwin's final reminder that historically a black life in America never really gets a happy ending.
P.S. My comments ended up being more on the book than the movie because at the moment that I'm writing this I recall the book more.
Also I thought the soundtrack was great and stood out as one of the best things about it.

Kaguya-sama Blind Reaction/Analysis: S1E1
Hello everyone, this is my blog which I am currently using to react to and analyze Kaguya-sama: Love Is War much more seriously than I should analyze any romcom.
I have only seen the first episode of the anime, which this post shall explore using far too many words. If I'm feeling particularly motivated, I may read the manga as well.
My analysis will contain spoilers. If you're thinking of watching this show and haven't seen it yet, I recommend you at least go check out the first episode yourself before reading any further. I don't know what the rest of the show is like, but what I've seen so far has been both entertaining and thought-provoking.
I'm going in mostly blind, but not entirely blind. There are a few images of the anime and manga that I have been exposed to, although without the attached context. Due to cultural osmosis and the sheer popularity of this work, perhaps that was almost inevitable.
Tumblr media
Figure 1.1.1: Why did this guy write an essay about a single episode of an ongoing romcom?
Kaguya-sama: Love Is War
Season 1 Episode 1
I Will Make You Invite Me to a Movie / Kaguya Wants to Be Stopped / Kaguya Wants It
Power dynamics in relationships
Tumblr media
Figure 1.1.2: Immediately, the mangaka's tastes become clear.
I heard a saying once that really stuck with me: "The partner who cares the least has all of the power."
In the world of dating, I often sincerely believed this saying. You may yearn for someone's affection, but the other person need not give it to you until they are willing and ready. No matter how much you want it, you can't make someone more interested in you, unless you resort to being roundabout, such as adding some mystery and intrigue to your courtship. But is that excessive?
I once felt a potential lover slipping through my grasp, and before I knew it, I found myself chasing after them. As I was yearning for their attention, I felt as if I'd lost my dignity. It was humiliating. Painful. Was it just that they weren't the right person for me? Or was I not funny enough? Not charismatic enough? Not interesting enough? Too clingy? Too talkative? Should I have been more distant and given them more space? Did I seem too weak? Too eager? How should I have maximized my desirability? Regardless, I had surely lost. Perhaps they wanted the satisfaction and validation of conquering me. Playing me for a fool and asserting their superiority by being so distant. Isn't that right? Or is that just insecurity speaking? At what point is it ideal to cut one's losses and walk away?
If someone desperately wants the object of their affection to desire them, does that make them pathetic? Does it make them a loser? If you show more vulnerability and desire than the other person, does that truly make you the weak one in a relationship?
These questions plague our two protagonists and seem to be a driving force behind the main conflict. Since I have also grappled with how much to reveal my own feelings of desire, I find Kaguya-sama: Love Is War to be a particularly fascinating show.
Desire without action
Tumblr media
Figure 1.1.3: Our protagonists are gifted with impressively high academic intelligence paired with impressively low emotional intelligence.
The show wastes no time in introducing us to our two main protagonists. Kaguya was born into a family of high stature (and says "ara ara" frequently enough to power a small country of weebs), whereas Shirogane is a "commoner" (Kaguya's word, not mine) who worked hard to reach the pinnacle of the student body. Like timid schoolchildren, they're crushing on each other, and yet they refuse to admit it due to their pride. Instead, they focus on getting their "opponent" to confess their love first.
What stuck out to me immediately is how they both have different ideas of what their relationship would be like. Shirogane envisions Kaguya as blushing, shy, and conventionally cute, whereas Kaguya (thankfully) envisions herself taking absolute dominance over Shirogane (which plenty of people should see coming as a character trait after the anime's very first scene). The bad news about this is that their two fantasies are at odds. The good news about this is that the mangaka has fantastic taste -- you can learn a lot about a storyteller based on the characterization of a love interest or lead character of the author's preferred gender.
In the event that the two of them become an actual couple, I wonder how on Earth they'll reach a compromise as to how they'll treat each other. Perhaps they will have to figure that out before they can even get that intimate.
I appreciate that we get to see both of their perspectives. It hammers home how everyone has a different truth in regards to what they desire and what they experience, and the show does not hold back when it comes to showing just how different these truths can be -- such as a certain lunch-themed sequence that I will talk about later. This works to great dramatic and comedic effect.
That said, when you spend your time fantasizing about what could happen instead of actually taking action, time is not so friendly to you.
Half a year passes.
Tumblr media
Figure 1.1.4: Two geniuses dedicate their pride to wasting their life and energy.
Immediately, I got the impression that whoever wrote this segment of the story knows what they're doing. This is too real. And by "too real", I mean I very much appreciate the realism. How many of us have waited for ages (or for eternity) to confess our feelings to a specific someone?
This is the curse of having a crush and being incapable of acting on it. It's also why I hate having crushes.
Manufacturing affection in others, AKA the extraction of vulnerability
Tumblr media
Figure 1.1.5: A plan is devised to weaponize jealousy in the name of affection.
To express your truest feelings means being vulnerable. That implies taking a risk and feeling responsible for any potential consequences of rejection, as well as putting our dignity on the line. It would be so much easier for the object of our affection to make themselves vulnerable instead. So instead of being direct and honest, we act indirect. We drop hints. We act suggestively, but not explicitly. We may even place them in situations where we think they are more likely to confess. If they don't pick up on it, we can pretend we didn't mean anything by it. That way, we don't have to risk our dignity. We can just wait for them to make the move.
It sucks.
Incidentally, it sucks even more when both you and your love interest are thinking that way.
It sucks infinitely more when both you and your love interest are COMMITTED to thinking that way.
Someone has to break the deadlock, whether that's immediately or eventually.
If this show isn't one of those romcoms where the status quo never changes ever (judging by the quality of writing, I have faith that it isn't), then at some point, either Shirogane or Kaguya is going to have to be explicit about how they really feel. And it's going to feel scarier to them than anything else they've ever done.
It's gonna be great.
If we could all grow up and live in environments where it's safe and encouraged for all of us to be honest about how we feel and what we want, surely love would be much less painful for so many people.
Chaos theory
Tumblr media
Figure 1.1.6: If your prospective lover won't protect you, then your friend definitely will.
Chika is the ideal wild card and agent of chaos in this arena of love.
From a writing perspective, Chika is immensely useful. The mangaka probably could have gotten by without a third character in the mix, but she serves as a catalyst and an unknown element, able to create unpredictability and subversion of expectations. For a comedy-oriented story, this is invaluable.
Blissfully unaware of the mental turmoil that plagues our two lovesick dorks, she is able to unintentionally invalidate whatever schemes that Kaguya or Shirogane spent so much mental energy on, which adds extra comedy and tension for the audience. She is also an effective vehicle for Kaguya's jealousy and projection, as seen in the lunchbox scene which I have so graciously foreshadowed.
Tumblr media
Figure 1.1.7: We have confirmed visual on an unidentified fourth person. Chekhov would love this. From their posture, I wonder if they'll be a gloomy character?
Misunderstandings and assumptions
I've heard that most interpersonal conflicts in life emerge from misunderstandings. In the absence of communication, assumptions are born and give rise to misunderstandings.
You may know where I'm going with this. Let's talk about the lunchbox sequence.
Figure 1.1.8 (not pictured because tumblr wishes to deny me of my image spam): Kaguya is too prideful to admit she thinks that a couple is doing something cute.
Tumblr media
Figure 1.1.9: Pride is considered a sin for a reason.
From a writing perspective, I was impressed by the lack of romantic intentions in Shirogane in this whole sequence. Not once did he try to get Kaguya to show vulnerability to him. Instead, Kaguya is the only one spinning the situation in a romantic way, while Shirogane's driving force is the misunderstanding that Kaguya is looking down on him for what he eats. Because of this misunderstanding, Shirogane doubles down and makes his food even better, making the situation even more complicated and more stressful for Kaguya. This was definitely my favorite comedy sequence from the first episode.
I appreciate that the show has demonstrated the ability to create these scenarios where one of the characters doesn't even have love on their mind, but there are still romantic thoughts coming from the other character which drives the drama. It gives me a lot of faith in the variety this show will have to offer, and makes me excited to watch more.
When it comes to comedy rooted in misunderstandings, it is important to have miscommunication or lack of communication. In order to resolve a misunderstanding, you need to talk about it. For a pairing as dysfunctional as Kaguya and Shirogane, expecting healthy communication sounds highly unreasonable, which makes them prime material for a whole world of misunderstandings.
Misunderstandings are rooted in assumptions about what the other person meant when they said something or made a certain gesture or expression. When Kaguya glared at Shirogane and his food, he didn't even think to ask "What's the matter?" He just made an assumption about how she felt. I wonder if trying to understand Kaguya's feelings would be considered a sign of weakness by Shirogane?
A prerequisite to initiating an emotional conversation is the desire to understand or be understood by the other person -- assuming that your assumptions haven't already built a narrative for you. It is far easier to make assumptions than it is to attempt any sort of understanding.
In the end, Shirogane fled, unwilling to confront or attempt to understand the intense and passive-aggressive Kaguya. Kaguya feels that she cannot directly ask to try his lunch, so perhaps this is the closest she can get to initiating such a conversation with him at this time. Despite their mind games where they imagine the reactions of their opponent, they still have a lot of difficulty understanding each other.
I am curious to see if this prospective couple's communication skills and emotional intelligence will improve over the course of the story.
The burden of potential romance
Tumblr media
Figure 1.1.10: Even the infallible genius Kaguya succumbs to superficial jealousy. It's "mind over matter" versus "matter over mind". That's how the saying goes, right?
Chika is a free spirit, able to ask Shirogane for whatever she wants without being neurotic. That is the power of not being bounded by a crush. Kaguya, who lacks that degree of freedom, briefly loathes her for experiencing something that Kaguya cannot ask for. It's amazing how much someone's feelings for a friend can change without a single word being spoken between them. All it takes is an action, unintentional or not, combined with the raw strength of insecurity. Just as quickly, the status quo can return back to normal too, with the act of properly making up.
To Chika, asking for food from someone doesn't mean anything at all, whereas with Kaguya, it is an admission of defeat. In that sense, a relationship that will only ever be platonic brings peace of mind, whereas a relationship that can be potentially romantic brings leagues upon leagues of anxiety if the outcome is of great concern.
Love is neurotic.
Is love worth the pain? For some people, it is not. For others, the reward is immense -- but only if you can make sure your relationship with this person doesn't end up being a nightmare for your emotional health.
Love and self-identity
The final scene of the episode surprised me in a good way. It's a brief departure from the comedy, and reveals a more heartfelt side of the show.
Kaguya's servant asks her an insightful question. It is substantially more insightful than I would expect from any romcom: "If you fell in love some day, would you wait for that person to confess their love, like now? Or would you confess your love?" I found myself immediately curious to hear Kaguya's answer, since I knew it would be highly informative about her character.
"If that time comes, I would consider the risk of someone stealing him first and come to the one rational conclusion." Even in the realm of love, Kaguya seems precise and calculating. It's as if she hesitates to give a straight answer, but then she confirms: "Of course I would go."
Tumblr media
Figure 1.1.11: "Please understand."
It is not embarrassment or rejection that Kaguya fears; it is the absolute destruction of her identity and sense of self. Kaguya is the daughter of a family that practically runs the country. In her mind, everyone yearns for her and wishes to serve her. Turning that around and reaching out to another person to express her own desire would be a direct contradiction of that. It is probably a similar situation for Shirogane, where the infallible self-image he has built up is being put at risk during his romantic duels against Kaguya.
Kaguya clearly feels trapped. She and Shirogane see each other as threats to be conquered, but in reality, they both share a mutual enemy that is much more imposing and insidious: their own simultaneous disgust at the idea of vulnerability.
Their freedom is dominated by their insecurities, and so, even despite their impressive stature, they are still very human. Their upbringing that has lead them to become so accomplished may be more of a curse than a blessing, due to the resulting pride and self-image they likely feel pressured to uphold.
It is hard to cast aside a lie that you have bought into for your whole life.
If our two protagonists wish to have a chance of establishing a healthy romantic relationship, they have a lot of their own demons to overcome first. If they cannot set aside their pride and reach mutual understanding, they have no hope.
Until then, they will both remain trapped in a hell of their own design, however tragically comedic it may be.
My hopes for this story's future
I can tell that the mangaka, unlike far too many writers all over the world, actually seems to have a solid understanding of romance and the conflict that arises within. I've watched too many anime that place huge focus on the "will they or won't they" crap which never runs any deeper than one or both of the characters being too embarrassed to just say what they're thinking, without any sort of convincing mental blocker. In that case, it's clearly just manufactured drama which is designed to pad out the story and waste your time rather than pose interesting questions and themes. In the case of Kaguya and Shirogane, the two of them have substantial communication issues which are depicted in a comedic yet mature way, which I have found engaging.
I very much hope that the show will more deeply explore the themes and questions surrounding the ideas of vulnerability, emotional intelligence, and superiority within relationships. Kaguya and Shirogane have been set up to be great vehicles for such exploration, and I hope the mangaka can capitalize on that, especially if our protagonists can confront these issues directly.
My impression is that the ending will make or break this story. If the mangaka can pull it off well, I can already believe the payoff will be hugely satisfying.
Of course, in order to get to that point, we'll have to see a certain something. It has to do with the most sacred word amongst romcom enthusiasts: "progress". Indeed, after spending chapters upon chapters watching two characters bumble around amidst the same exact status quo, those little signs of advancements in a relationship are highly rewarding.
Underneath all of their aggression, if we can see Kaguya and Shirogane slowly open up to each other and realize the benefits of vulnerability, I think we could witness something really beautiful and really emotionally cathartic.
I've still only seen one episode, but I believe the mangaka has laid a fantastic groundwork for a series and can do a great job developing upon what I've seen so far. On that note, I will surpass our prideful protagonists by opening my heart to this story and entrusting it with my vulnerability, believing it can deliver satisfying development and resolution. You can do it!
Closing thoughts
I did not expect to write so much about a single episode of an ANIME of all things, but here we are. If only I could conjure this kind of power back when I actually needed it in high school English class!
The first episode alone is already so rich with characterization and themes that I managed to find quite a lot to talk about. Given how much I found myself relating to the characters and some of their situations, it's clear to me how this show became so popular. Not only are the animation, direction, and writing excellent, but also many people can probably relate to love feeling like a battlefield.
I do not want to believe in the idea of winners and losers in relationships. That idea creeps into my head whenever I'm having trouble keeping the interest of a new date, and I find myself wondering where those thoughts even come from. Lately, I have been reflecting on the way I relate to other people. Perhaps I've started experiencing this show at a time in my life when I most needed it, and that's why I felt driven to write such a large analysis.
This show poses some very interesting questions about romance that I do not actually know the answer to at the time of writing. I do not know yet how much the show is actually going to explore these themes. Regardless, I appreciate how this show is helping me reflect, and I am curious to see if and how the mangaka will answer some of the questions brought about by the story's themes.
This is a show that I'll most likely have to pace myself with. There was so much to process in this first episode alone. If I went any faster, I'm not sure if I'd even catch all of the details and character moments. I'm excited to move onto the second episode soon.
A highly subjective footnote about my cultured tastes
I'm glad that Kaguya is a sadistic dom with a gentle and vulnerable side, solely on the basis of that being my favorite personality type in a love interest. It also helps that it makes Kaguya's fantasies that much funnier with Shirogane acting so out of character. I feel like this show was made for me.
What was I writing about again? Oh yeah, writing a gigantic wall of text about an anime romcom. Somehow, I spent an entire day on this essay. Hopefully someone got a kick out of it.

The Children of Israel or Jews as some call them were chosen by Allah; G'd, to deliver His message to all the people, they were not chosen by G'd to be the one special people above all other people on earth, Allah has no partners or associates. They failed to follow the command of Allah through their Prophet Moses, Moses was successful but most of the following went astray. The same mission was then placed upon Prophet Muhammad 610 AD, to call the people back to their original G'd given human nature.
Allah made a covenant with the Children of Israel, when they broke the covenant Allah gave that same covenant to Prophet Muhammad, that same covenant is upon us Muslims today. Praise be to Allah.
Isaac and Ismail are from the same Father, Ibrahim, Isaac, the father of Israel was the first leader of the Children of Israel; the 12 tribes. Ismail was the beginning of the Muslim movement, finalized with Prophet Muhammad, Allahs Messenger, The last Prophet of Allah to mankind.
All Prophets and Messengers, and Holy Books, are from One Source, Allah, The One and Only G'd.
See Qur'an, 2:40-86SUPPORTS YOU CAN'T SEE
And God says, "Look at the heavenly bodies." Both Scriptures point us to the heavens, for us to observe the wisdom for a higher order of human life on this planet earth. God says, "Observe the bodies that you see in the sky and how they appear to be supported with no props or supports under them that you can see."
What is that saying to us? It is saying that not only your life but the existence of the material universe is existence upon powers that you can't see. The sun you can't see what is holding it up. The moon you don't see what is holding it up there. You get a telescope and look at planets and material bodies or material mass bigger than ours.
Look at the planets, like Jupiter. You cannot see what is holding them up there. Science tells you of the trillions and trillions of tons not pounds in that mass. There it is hanging out there in space seemingly with no support holding it up.
That is pointed out to us to tell us to trust the God that designed this creation, trust the God that designed the Universe. Trust Him. You can't explain everything He did. Trust Him. He knows and you know not.
You look at what He has done and then come up with your own explanation for it. I know about universal gravity. That is what science tells us.
But when the farmer looks up there, he doesn't see any universal gravity. All he sees is big bodies up there and nothing is holding them up. So God's Lesson is going to stay, no matter what science says.
God gives us a Lesson that says, "Have faith in the Lord that designed this creation. The way it is designed is too big for your mind to grasp. Have faith in The One that designed it and don't doubt.

If your eyes are open, and you look around us today, you can't help but notice that America has the wrath of God on it, and it may very well be because those who are religious leaders in this society have abandoned their duties and responsibilities in leading the masses of society in the moral direction set by G'd The Almighty.
The religious leadership is getting weaker and weaker by the day. A good example of how weak they have become - There once was a time when homosexuality was taboo in this society and throughout the world, in one time or another. If you look around us today you'll see that it's just about accepted not only among the masses, but even among some clergy. If you ask the clergy what their views are on this subject, many will tell you that homosexuals deserve rights that everyone else has, or they may say that they don't see homosexuality as a serious problem facing America today.
Dear people, when the religious role models in this society can't see that all problems stem from a spiritual problem, we're in trouble! When those who do see it as a problem are too weak to address the issues that their religious scripture draws out as a clear abomination, then there's no leadership for those right minded people. Some religious leaders will admit that homosexuality is unnatural, but they'll say it only behind closed doors, because they're too afraid to address the issue for fear of the consequences, what ever they may be. This is terrible because this shows that they have no faith in the All-Powerful, Almighty G'd, Who no one is a match for. There are homosexuals preaching in the church in some cities across the country. Even our politicians are supporting homosexuals because they want their votes.
Homosexuality is slowly being accepted as a natural way of life because the religious leaders have failed to prove otherwise.
By now you have noticed that we have yet to use the term most commonly used today, gay -- This term came from the same sociologists in this society who determine and define what's sane and what's insane in America -- many who are themselves homosexuals.
IS HOMOSEXUALITY A CREATION OF G'D?
Almighty G'd has shown us in the Bible, the Torah and the Qur'an that homosexuality is an abomination. So how did they get people to accept what G'd has made forbidden? They suppressed G'd's word and changed the terms homosexual and pervert to a term that people already naturally accepted as a happy word, and so the term gay was used for homosexuals. It's easier to say gay rights than to say pervert rights. This is very clever of those so-called students of human behavior, who because of their knowledge and wealth and hunger for power strayed from the path of G'd and became enemies to G'd and humanity. They have piggybacked on the struggle of civil rights and minorities and have gained a following, but no matter what they do they can never change what G'd has made natural.Book #3 WDM p.18 of 86
Allah judges
Allah knows their value. we can’t judge that. We may take a brother who drinks and sit him over there with the corrupt, and that brother who drinks may be in heaven a little higher than us when are resurrected. We don’t know. Maybe the drinking that you did with Islamic science was bigger, made you a bigger drunk than he is. So we don’t know. So it is hard for us to do that. But sometimes I would like to see a good situation where all the corrupt, I know they are over there. I would be free, more relaxed to talk over here. When I talk over there I’d have something for them to say. It would be more relaxed for me to address them knowing that they are over there. But we can’t do that.
So now, what do we have to see, first? That Al Islam is a Religion that focuses the light on man and shows him firstly, principally, as a social creature; that G-d intended for him to be a social creature; not to be satisfied being an island, or on an island all to himself; that he must mate and become a bigger social unit; family, tribes, and then until you embrace the whole community of man on this earth and see yourself as a member in one family, with all people. So man is a social creature.
Qur’an gives social inspiration
Man is a social creature and the spirit of the Qur’an is, what? The spirit of the Qur’an is social inspiration. It feeds our social aspirations. This word social is bigger than we think it is. By social we don’t mean just associating with each other, physically, but our dependency on each other as members of a world society. We want to keep the focus on the Muslim community right now. As members of the Muslim community, our dependency on each other brings us together and our love for each other brings us together. So here we have a love for each other that brings us
Book #3 WDM p.19 of 86 together, and a dependency on each other that brings us together.
Pretty soon we find that the teacher of the school has to be tied up full time in doing that. But there is also a need to have business growing in the community. So there is a business person feeding business.
The social context in terms of people keeps expanding with growth, and as it grows there is more demand for more things to take care of the needs of its growing people. He can have the regulation of the home in the parent. He can have the regulation of the family in the parent. He can have the regulation of the morals in the parent, the discipline, the laws that discipline the family can be in the parent, everything. Everything can be in the parents.
That’s a small unit and he can manage that. But when it extends and involves hundreds of families, he can’t manage that. If there is nobody but him and his family, he can go out, take his sons out with him, children with him, go out and plow the field, and regulate his own food. He doesn’t need anybody to regulate the economy for him. He can handle that. But when they multiply in a social unit, it’s the social unit that is getting bigger. The social unit gets bigger and brings in demands for industry, for more sophisticated government, more complex government ideas, and everything else we can think of. There is not one other single influence responsible for the growth and development of society, other than the social principle, or the social influence.
Now, go back to the sun as a symbol. The sun, I said earlier that it’s the principle behind all the changes in the weather, the growth and everything, didn’t I? So here you have, now, me saying that the social interest, the social principle, is the influence behind all the other growth and possibilities.
Can’t we then say that the sun is also a symbol of man as a social unit, the Khalifa is male and female, and the purpose of male and female is to have generations? That’s the social principle. So the Khalifa is the social principle. He is the sun. He is the social principlTHE ROBE
Lost Knowledge
Now, let’s continue here. What is the robe symbolic of? Do you recall? Symbolic of the way you use the knowledge, the dress, symbolic of the way you use the knowledge. The sheet is the knowledge, the pages, the script.Remember now, when Jesus was crucified, he lost his robe and they gambled to see who would possess his robe. Now if you understand the meaning of robe, then you should understand that this world doesn’t have the true knowledge, the true use of the knowledge that Jesus gave them.
The knowledge was lost from Jesus’ body and it fell in the hands of crooked sinners. They gambled for it. Not only that, the silver cup, the special cup, it was lost too. Which tells us not only the proper use of the knowledge was lost, but also the moral cleanliness was lost from the religion.Silver chalice I think they call it. Is that what they call it? I think it is called Silver chalice. It was lost from Christianity. So how would they explain this? Ask the preacher next Sunday morning at 11 o’clock. Ask him. Say preacher; please tell me what it means in Christianity when they say that they lost the Silver chalice, the silver cup. Ask the preacher, how they can have the shroud of Jesus, in this city that is called Turin.
When the Bible says that his robe fell into the hands of sinners and they gambled to see who would possess it. So how can they have his robe there? If they have it, sinners gave it to them and if the sinners gave it up, it wasn’t fit to wear. That’s right. That robe wasn’t fit to wear. After it fell into the hands of sinners, who would want to wear it?
What is sweeter than honey?
Let’s continue now, it says he gave them another riddle. And this riddle is: “What is sweeter than honey?” And “What is stronger than a lion?”So he gave two riddles. In fact four parts to it.Second one is, “What is sweeter than honey? What is stronger than a lion?” All right. You know honey means the beauty of pure scripture. How do we know this? We know it because in the Qur’an this word is used. Honey is a good word for scripture. The honey is the essence of the flower and flowers are symbolic of beautiful culture. What is sweeter than the beauty that G-d offers you? What is sweeter than the sweetness that you find in G-d’s pure scripture? That’s what he’s telling them. And what is stronger than a lion? What he’s telling them is that, the east has honey.
They have the beauty of G-d’s revelation. And you have the strength of a lion. I’ve got something that makes you stronger, and I’ve got something to give you to make your doctrine sweeter than their honey. You see this thing? Yes, it’s plain. So he gave them, the Gentile world, the doctrine of love, the love of Christ that was sweeter than the moral and spiritual teachings to weak people, than the pure teachings of the Prophet. It’s sweeter to them … that G-d loves you sinners so much, that he gave his only begotten son, that he should be scorned, mocked, spat on, tortured, crucified, and die and be buried for your sins. Oh that’s sweet to ignorant weak people, sweeter than the truth of G-d’s scripture. So he said what is sweeter than honey? This lie I am going to give you is sweeter than the pure honey of Scripture that the east has.
Cheated Samson out of his heifer
And what is stronger than a lion? This subtle psychology…. (indiscernible) and he himself was going to destroy the Philistines. They have cheated him out of his heifer; I am talking about right now!The Christian Church that he thought would be his heifer betrayed him. Say oh, you can have business, you can have media, you can have this, but you are not going to run our churches. The Gentile doesn’t want any Jews over their churches. If you want to have something, you can have Peter. Go and tutor the Pope in secrecy. He’ll accept it. But these ordinary Gentiles are not going to accept that no Jew rule over them.So you mean to tell me you are not going to give me my heifer? So why don’t you, can’t you all do it through me, can’t you all carry out my orders? No we can’t do it. They are not going to listen to it. Well very good. Well then can I tell you what kind of doctrine you should give to the masses that won’t follow Peter?Yes it’s okay. All right. I’m going to make bread again. I’m going to get on a wheel. I’m going to make Marxism. I’m going to make Communism.I’m going to make the Age of Reason. I’m going to exalt logic. I’ll give them some new flour, is that okay? Well that’s okay. As long as you don’t take over the church. No, I won’t bother the church. Okay. Go on to the wheel again. It’s okay.
Bring society down on me and them
Now listen. After all that he still was not satisfied. Is that right? Yeah look at the story now, remember, he still is not satisfied. So he said, “I am blind, but I got something that they don’t know I’ve got. I got special power, in my arms.” “All I want to do is just have somebody show me to the pillars of the foundation of their society. And if I just can get to the two pillars that hold up the structure of their society, I’m going to bring it down on me and them.”So Samson goes and stands between the two pillars with the help of a little boy. He couldn’t see but he used the help of a little boy. What is the help of that little boy? Psychology. Psychology.
Don’t think it’s another person; he’s not even a person. Persons carry it out, but he’s a knowledge body. Then he goes and he used a little boy, psychology. Don’t human beings use psychology before they use intelligence? That’s why in psychology in this particular context it’s called a little boy. Your little children, before they are able to compete with you on an intelligence plane, they already using psychology on you. So psychology is an early development in the human being. That’s why the Jahcubite’s cousin, Fard Muhammad said Yakub conceived his idea at the age 6, as a little boy, a psychology. He’ll be surprised to know that I know that. I hope he gets this. I understand that he’s back home now. So he’ll get this message, Insha ‘Allah. Now, let me continue. With the help of psychology, he finds his way to the foundations of the new society. And when he gets to the foundation, what does he do? He forms a cross of himself and he begins pressing with all his might. That’s what the Scripture says. Said he pressed with all his might, with all his strength on the pillars, forming of himself a cross. What does this mean? This is more than Trinitarianism, this is the psychology of the mentality that Trinitarianism has produced.
Weaknesses in the mentality that trinitarianism has produced
He has now learned that there are certain weaknesses in the mentality that Trinitarianism has produced. And he knows that he can appeal to their emotions, and he can push in two directions at the same time.He didn’t pull the pillars, he pushed. He can push in opposite directions at the same time. Make one people give in to emotions, and the other people give in to logic. Push them. So that some will become highly emotional and some will become highly logical. And in doing this the logic will act against the emotions, and emotions will act against the logic. The emotional makeup will kill the logic, the logic will offend the emotions, the society will be divided against itself and the pillars will fall. Don’t you know that’s a strategy that is used in this Society? Whenever the hidden evil in the structure is about to be exposed they began firing the society with emotion, sentiment, flower children, love for everybody, crazy kind of sentimentality and emotionalism. They fire it up and build up strong emotions, this is depressing. Now when he does it it’s going to drop the whole thing. If he can be successful and bring in the sentimental and emotional elements against the logic, it’s going to destroy the whole thing. But look, he will certainly, he will be killed, as a knowledge body. He was already blind wasn’t he? What the hell has he lost? Nothing. Once he brings it down, he would start up all over again. Do, ra, mi, fa, sol, la, ti.
By the Grace of G-d, through IWDM, America was not destroyedJust in a few years that have passed us dear people, that scheme has tried to destroy America. But by the grace of G-d, through me, America was not destroyed. Why do I say through me? Because I was the only one that came out when the trend was to go in the form of the cross. When the trend was to become emotional, highly emotional and give one side to dry logic, I came up in the middle of that action and said there is a scheme going on, there is a trick going on.This whole thing is designed to fire up your sentiments, your emotions and topple the society. Somebody must have heard me and believed others who had been talking before I started, and all of it came together to save America. Yes.
See they didn’t believe others who were saying, there is a scheme, there is a hidden scheme. But when I began to speak, they say look, now we know this boy, we’ve been watching this boy since his father raised him up. We know that this boy is not a tool of outside influence. So if he says these things that ring a bell, where did he get it from? We believe maybe G-d is inspiring Wallace D. Mohammed. So they went back to the desk. And they begin to pull out things from the old file and they studied history all over again. And they said that Wallace D. Mohammed is an inspired man, he sees something. And what he is saying is what we’ve heard before. It might be something to it. How else could he get it?
Simple Simon met a pie man on the way to the square
Say oh no, let’s check this thing. Let’s check this thing. Said I’m sorry, you can’t get sixpence today, only one. Sorry, we aren’t buying pies today. We’re buying cakes. You heard that old story of Simple Simon … Simple Simon met a pie man on the way to the square. I think it goes,” … said Simple Simon to the pie man, would you have a sixpence to spare?” And I think he said, “If I was selling sixpence, I wouldn’t be selling pies!” Well, that’s another one of the conspirators’ riddles. And I will tell you what it means. Sixpence means the knowledge behind the scheme. It’s said the man was made on the 6th day. The sixpence is the knowledge behind the scheme. Simon was given seven (7), not six (6). He couldn’t see 6, six (6) was ruling seven (7). But he wanted the six (6).What is the secret in this? Will you tell me please, Mr. Pie man? You know what Pi is? 3.1416, I think it is. It’s a formula for finding the circumference of the earth. It’s a formula for world dominance. Now I’m not saying anything that I didn’t want to say, I know it’s a formula for finding the circumference of a circle. It’s a formula for world dominance.
If I was selling my own secrets you think I’d be selling pies And Peter, the Catholic Church wanted it. But the conspirator wouldn’t give it to them. Said if I was selling my own secrets you think I’d be selling pies? You think I’d be telling you how to get the world, if I was selling the secret to how to get it.I’ll just tell you how to get it; I’m not going to tell you my secret. You get it from me. Yes. All Peter got was some magic beans; he did manage to get those didn’t he? You remember that riddle? Nursery rhyme, whatever you want to call it. Jack and the beanstalk. Yeah. He had Jack, which is nothing again but Peter, or the Western society. Pardon me, I shouldn’t say Peter, not Peter, Jack is not the Catholic Church, it’s the Western society, Protestant society. Catholic Church headquarters is in Rome. This is typical American. Jack is talking about typical America. That’s why we call each other Jack. You know, hey jack, what’s happening Jack?
Yes, so, it was Peter, the Pope who asked them for his sixpence. But Jack, the American Christian society, they asked for magic beans. Well really they didn’t know what to ask for. All they wanted was really to be rescued, because their cow had got so lean, it was about to die.Everything was going bad. And they wanted to know how to bring back life. How can my cows get fat again? How can the society thrive again? So, while they were (wandering) wondering, this funny looking thing jumped out in the road. And he made himself visible and he said, “Magic beans want to buy some magic beans, like to buy some magic beans?” And Jack agreed to give his cow up for the magic beans. I’m showing you that this is not only in Scripture. If it is only in Scripture that means that what I’m talking about may not be existing in the world today. Or maybe it was just a story that was only in Scripture, maybe it was just fiction. But if it’s in the world too, we should listen.
What do the magic beans represent?
Now. Says this little funny thing, man, jumped out, and he talked Jack into giving up his cow for these magic beans. Right. Some of you remember it. He went away with his cow. What do the magic beans represent? A way to, again, to the secret knowledge in Christian religion. A way to the secret knowledge in Christian religion. And dumb Protestant society gave up their lean cow for this heavenly knowledge. What is the lean cow? The lean cow represents what they had before. What did they have before? They had rational growth. The Protestant movement began with an interest in rational growth. Is that right? Yes.
Our knowledge is weak, our cow is lean
They wanted to pursue knowledge. The Catholic Church had suppressed enlightenment, had suppressed education. The people weren’t allowed to learn. The masses couldn’t learn and educate themselves. So a thirst for knowledge came with Martin Luther. Right. And they began to want knowledge to develop their minds. Here comes Jake, Jack pardon me, feeling himself desperately in need of help. We have the interest in rational development of our society, but our knowledge is weak, our cow is lean. We haven’t yet produced anything. We need help. Who would help us?Oh Lord Jesus, help us. We got this logic. But Rome is powerful. We got this logic and Rome is powerful. G-d help us please! Ding, ding. Jahcubite conspirator. I will help you! Would you like to have some magic beans? If I give you my magic beans you’ll have to give me your lean cow. In effect he was saying the same thing that Samson said. I’m going to give you a new world, but you’re going to have to give me the one that you got now. And if you give him the one you got now, when it becomes fat, who does it belong to? Belong to him. He got it. He got it in exchange for the magic beans.
Over the heavenly kingdom was a mean old giant
So he (Jack) went home and planted. Went home and he didn’t know the value of them right? But I think accidentally one fell into the ground right? The thing grew up and it went up, up, up. He saw it going up past his window, he ran out and jumped on it, and the thing took him up into heaven. (It) took him up on the plane of clouds, into a castle that was in the clouds. Right. Yes.There he found a nice old woman that befriended him. But over that heavenly kingdom was a mean old giant. That right? Yes. He said fee, fi, fo, fom, I smell the blood of an Englishman, be he live or be he dead; I’ll grind his bones with my bread. With my bread. Remember bread is of two kinds. Leaven and unleavened. I’ll grind his bones with my bread. So, he managed to escape with the help of this woman up there, old woman who was nice. He managed to escape. Who is the old woman who was nice? Means people in the religious knowledge of the secrets of religion that weren’t corrupt. Didn’t have no evil designs on the world like the conspirators. They shared with him after he got up there. They shared with him some knowledge. Helped him to get the golden knowledge down from heaven.
The Golden knowledge it came from the hen right? The hen who laid golden eggs. But the hen couldn’t lay any golden eggs without music playing. When music played the hen would lay the eggs. The music stopped, the hen stop laying the golden eggs. Which means that the wisdom is tied to music? Do, re, mi, fa, sol, la, ti, do. Do, ra, mi, fa, sol, la, ti, do. Now when he got the musical scheme, he came back down with the hen and the music harp plus the knowledge, and he tied them together, then he had wisdom. He had wisdom to bring back down with the hen, and the music harp right, according to the story. From heaven, he brought back with him, they don’t say heaven, but it is the heaven of religious symbolism — Biblical symbolism. He came back down with the music maker and with the egg layer. You needed both in order to get the wisdom. The golden egg means wisdom. All right.
Giant’s fall from heaven left a big hole in the earth
The giant fell from heaven. Is that right? He was so big and heavy that when he fell he knocked a big hole in the earth, left there a big hole in the earth. The giant was finished. Who was finished? Who is the big giant that was finished? The people in the secret religion. The Pope. The Pope and certain others that I don’t care to name right now, that hoard the secrets of religion. When the Protestant was given the secret way to get it, and when Protestant leadership got it, got their share. Don’t think they got all, they got their share. Catholic got his share yes. Protestant got their share. The conspirators got the whole share. When they got it, the position of superiority of them over American Christian leadership fell. When it fell, it knocked a big hole in the ground. What is that symbolic of? Actually they were not spiritual people, they were material people. And when they fell a big part of the material that they had before was taken out. So much of the material wealth that was under Catholicism, and under other secret conspirators in religion, fell to Jack, to the American Christian Society. Is that right? Yes.Then they began to rise. But they only had magic beans. Magic beans is not knowledge. Magic. The only way you can get it is through magic. You have to have the knowledge of the magic to know how to work them. And, they were secret, so only a few of the Jack people can have them.
Jack: the American Christian society
Let me quickly tell you what Jack represents in the American Christian Society. It represents the intelligent leadership, Jack represents the intelligent leadership. Now Jack is not as long as Jacob. So their knowledge is shorter than Jacob, you see?Jack is a derivative of the word Jacob. Jacob is the origin, Jack is a derivative, derived from Jacob. So Jack is just a short …. they don’t have Jacob that’s long. But they do have enough to enable them to keep this same rhythm going.Rotating events, with a seven note scale, or is it eight. Yes, an eight note scale that goes to seven, and comes back to where it started. Right? Do, ra, mi, fa, sol, la, ti, do, come back to where it started. So they were given knowledge of how to keep society going through these changes, psychological changes.
So America unknowingly, has been going through these changes. Look at the trends, one fad behind another. Pretty soon you are wearing what you wore 20 years ago. Right. Pretty soon you’re dancing the way you danced 20 years ago. You are talking the way you talked 20 years ago. You are thinking the way you thought 20 years ago.So they keep rotating. They have the Jahcubite scheme, but they have only that pie that Jahcubite wanted them to have. Jahcubite sell pies all over the world Jahcubite sell pies all over the world. Sold the Pope a pie. Sold Protestant America a pie. Sold Communists East a pie, called it the red pie. Yes, the red pie. I’m getting ready to let you go now.
What does the red represent? What do they mean red? You say passions? That’s to trick you. Yes,Red means passions in the other octave. It has been played. It’s another octave. It takes on another color, it takes on another dress. It don’t keep the same dress, it says I will sell you changes. You see?Yes, it meant passions in one place, but not passions in Communist Russia, although passions are involved. It means the social life. Red means the social life. What ties me together with my brother? Blood. Blood is red. See. So people, as a social group are tied together first by blood. And they call each other brother, you see. So that’s blood.Red stands for blood. What blood? Human blood. Human blood, according to the Bible, New Testament in particular, should combine with water, which is human spirit, symbolic of human spirit.
Bring the social life too
So people should be spiritual, as well as social, according to the New Testament teaching. You shouldn’t just be blood. Christ Jesus says, “I come not of water only, but of blood also.”What does this mean? It means that before him, the people were all spiritual, but were neglecting the social development of society, the development of the relationship of person-to-person, people to people, communities to communities. He came to bring the blood, means to bring the social life up too, with the spiritual life. This is in the Scripture. So now, if the East has become red, it means that they now have gone to another … see the world was spiritual, and then it became religious. Now they are trying to get it to become all red. No spirituality, take the spirituality out of it. Make it all red, that we are social group and we are born out of materialism, so material concepts should govern us. We shouldn’t have spiritualism in our life. Give up; give out the water, only the red.

So I think it was you (I follow a couple therapy blogs) that mentioned they won't see any patients while they're in an altered state (non-prescribed drugs, alcohol, etc) for ethical reasons. Can you explain the reasons for that (is it, patients might not have their proper boundaries and do things they'll regret in session, or what?) and is there a hard line or a bit of a judgment call (if I fuck up and forget I have an appointment and have a beer before going, do they have to send me home)?
There was a delay in answering this because I had to pull out my law and ethics textbook and poll some of my therapist friends. Because this had been part of my licensing exam and I was looking for justification. See this is why I love getting these asks - it keeps me sharp. Not seeing intoxicated clients happens for a lot of reasons and I’ll go through them.
1) It’s a judgement call. Usually. If you are working for agency or a hospital (like me), then you may be bound by the rule of the agency or hospital. Because we work primarily with minors, we are not allowed to see intoxicated clients. Have I probably had a session with a kid who smokes weed before school when I’ve seen them at lunch? Yeah sure - but I’ve been seeing most of my caseload at the agency for a while so they will tell me even though they know I will stop the session. So because of where I work, I don’t have the wiggle room I have in private practice.
2) It is unethical to do therapy with someone who can’t consent, barring emergency, lifesaving treatment. So if you show up to therapy off your tits drunk or high as a kite - you aren’t really consenting to therapy because you aren’t able to consent period. Just before we have gotten informed consent in prior sessions - it’s not consent forever. One of my therapist friends who I think is a total baller said, “A lot of therapy is about intention and accountability. I think if someone is so intoxicated they can’t be intentional or accountable - or they’re avoiding those two things through their intoxication - that’s a problem. Even if it helps with disclosure, that disclosure needs to be intentional and accountable, or you have little basis to move forward.” And I 100% agree. She summed up my thoughts pretty perfectly. Disclosure that you can only share when you are really drunk means that the therapist needs to work on the safety of the room and relationship and have patience.
3) It can be physical safety concern if you are visibly intoxicated. What is this person like when they are drunk? Are they going to get angry and put themselves or me in danger? Another colleague spoke about a client who would consistently attempt to run through traffic when intoxicated. So that’s dangerous. Are you so drunk you are going to lose consciousness? Throw up and choke? Will we have to call 911 because you’ve stripped to your undies and are throwing chairs in the lobby? All of those actions have consequences that could take weeks or months to sort out. You are just unpredictable when you are intoxicated and your reaction may change. It’s also a physical safety concern for us. Clients experience maternal/paternal transference as well as erotic transference. With erotic transference, alcohol may lower a client’s inhibitions and they may try to touch/kiss/etc (a colleague I trust had this happen to him - he was an agency in a group office setting so he was able to get out but it effectively ended the therapy between the two. The client was enraged that he refused her sexual overtures and he was worried about being sued.) Each therapist has their own history and aggressive or sexualized behavior may not bother them. But it would bother some of us.
4) Substances can make you more emotionally volatile too. Reactions can be bigger and more intense which if you are dealing with someone who is suicidal or at risk in other ways is a problem. If you are in a group setting, you could be triggering other clients struggling with either sobriety or recovery from trauma inflicted by another while drunk.
5) Seeing intoxicated clients is an enormous liability issue. Therapy on the therapist’s side isn’t just about the relationship with client and all that good stuff - it’s also about managing risk. You want to protect yourself in your records and because of the issues mentioned above you could be putting your license at risk. If they can’t remember the session and are assault after session, that puts in you a bad position. And like I love my clients but I need my license to make a living and still owe a fuckton of loans so I’m not going to risk it.
6) In some states, if you are too intoxicated to drive but have driven to therapy, your therapist may be required to report you the police if you are planning to get back into your car (due to credible harm to other). I am really uncomfortable with this but that’s the state law where I live and I think it’s kinda gross. I would rather lyft/taxi the client home and pro-rate the fee to them.
Lastly - The consensus from people I know who work in recovery, addiction or chronically homeless population is in favor of seeing people when they are intoxicated provided they are with it enough to understand what’s going on. In some programs and community mental health settings, refusing to work with intoxicated people would have resulted in many people not being served. Another friend stated that “Also, everyone is stoned CONSTANTLY in post-2015 Washington. So there’s that too.” Which should also be considered.
I’m not touching on deliberate, planned intoxication - because that is something very different. There is some great PTSD trials right now regarding a day long therapy with a client who takes drugs (I want to say it was ecstasy) in your presence and then you go at the hard stuff.
TLDR; if you have a beer before therapy, it’ll probably be fine as long as your therapist/agency doesn’t have a 24 hours prior sobriety clause in the informed consent. If you are worried, find out where your therapist stands. Talk about it.
