Hai!! I saw that your requests are open and you also do match-ups! I was wondering if I could request a match-up for ROTTMNT?? (Feel free to ignore this if ur busy btw ^^’)
I’m 5’5, trans FTM. I go by multiple names, but my internet alias is Mia. I have short brown hair with raccoon tails (like the 2000’s scene-kid kind) and dark brown eyes. My hobbies are art (digital/traditional) crafts, collecting trinkets or Monster High Dolls and LPS. I have autism & ADHD, and my special interests are ants and psychology. I have a big vocabulary and I have a hard time being emotionally open. My personality type or whatever it’s called is INFP-T, but I like to act dramatic and ‘mean’ for the giggles.
(Again, feel free to completely ignore this request lol.)
Hey Mia!! Sorry I took so long- [It's my first matchup so bear with me-] Also, don't know if I should add a tag list or not, so I've decided not to
Tumblr media
Personally, I ship you with Donnie!
💜 - Finally! Someone who he can talk to without having to dumb it down!
💜 - As for art, if you're the kind to give gifts [paintings and such] expect him to give you little trinkets to collect in return.
💜 - And yes, he will get you whatever doll/action figure you want, not only on special occasions, but on random days as well!
💜 - I can vividly imagine him just flying by on his jetpack, then comically coming to stop as he sees something you'd like through the shop window
💜 - I can not stress this enough but ✨THEATER KIDS✨
💜 - Personally, I believe Donnie's MBTI is INTP [type A or type T, I'll never know]. Seeing as you're both introverted, dates nights or just general hangouts will be spent indoors in one of you guys' homes!
💜 - Movie nights where you both quote the lines <3
💜 - The two of you being emotionally unavailable with each other might or might not become a problem depending on how you two overcome it.
💜 - You may not be openly emotional with each other, but those moment spent in silence, enjoying each other's presence, those little gifts that were traded, the info-dumping sessions spent together, they make up for it pretty well, I'd say <3
💜 - As for the autism and ADHD!
💜 - He doesn't mind, I mean, he'd be a hypocrite if he didn't date you just because you were neurodivergent.
💜 - If you're the kind to stim vigorously, he'll make sure to baby proof his lab a bit, so you don't end up hurting yourself.
💜 - But, he will probably do some stimming himself so happy little stimming sessions are to be expected
💜 - Vocal stims aren't minded either! In fact, if you're both in a good mood, he might join in.
💜 - If you like having someone do your hair, he's willing to try! He'll probably open up YouTube and follow along, and depending on the hair style and your hair type, it might not take too long!
💜 - If you guys are long enough into the relationship for cuddles, he will play with your hair, so beware-
💜 - Ants and psychology you say?
💜 - As a guy with his own special interests, he doesn't mind. In fact, he probably respects you for it.
💜 - Will put aside a project just to listen to you ramble on about either topic.
💜 - As I said earlier, info-dumping sessions are a must!
💜 - Now, if you're into psychology and plan on being a therapist and such, don't try to dig into his emotions too much
💜 - My boy takes time, and he'll open up when he's ready.

"You Asked Me To" (1973/1975)
youtube
"You Asked Me To" is a song written by the country singers Waylon Jennings and Billy Joe Shaver. Jennings first released the song in June 1973 on his album Honky Tonk Heroes, and the song spent fifteen weeks on the Billboard country singles charts. Elvis recorded the song on December 11, 1973 at Stax Records studios in Memphis, Tennessee, but it was only released during Elvis's 40th birthday (January 8, 1975) in the album Promised Land. The delay paid off. The country album peaked #1 on the Billboard's Top Country LPs chart, as well as the Cashbox Country albums chart.
THE MUSICIANS ON THIS TRACK: Guitar: James Burton, Johnny Christopher, Charlie Hodge. Bass: Norbert Putnam. Drums: Ronnie Tutt. Piano & Organ: David Briggs, Per-Erik Hallin. Vocals: Kathy Westmoreland, Mary (Jeannie) Greene, Mary Holladay, Susan Pilkington, Voice, J.D. Sumner & The Stamps. OVERDUBS — Guitar: Dennis Linde, Alan Rush. Percussion: Rob Galbraith. Piano: Bobby Ogdin. Organ: Randy Cullers. Vocals: Ginger Holladay, Mary Holladay, Mary Cain.
A LITTLE BIT ABOUT THE RECORDING MOMENT FOR THIS SONG IN 1973:
Studio Sessions for RCA, December 10–16, 1973: Stax Studios, Memphis The night began with "You Ask Me To", a Waylon Jennings song that had been one of several recent hits for the Texas singer-songwriter. As a teenager Jennings had watched the young Hillbilly Cat perform in his hometown of Lubbock, Texas, and he (like Buddy Holly, also from Lubbock) was impressed with what he saw. Now Elvis was following Jennings’s recording closely, and completed a lively take on the second try. For once, though, Elvis was satisfied before Felton [Jarvis]; the producer wanted to get something more from his singer, but when the hopped-up Elvis messed up on the next attempt, he started taking out his frustration on Felton. With the overwhelming criticism of the previous sessions, Felton felt compelled to push, encourage, and direct his artist, in an effort to make sure he gave the very best he could. Settling for take two just wasn’t good enough for what Felton was looking for, and though they had to fight through a few more mistake-ridden takes to get there, by take six he knew he’d done the right thing.
"You Ask Me To" by Waylon Jennings, released on the album Honky Tonk Heroes in June 1973:
youtube
My favorite part of Elvis' cover of this song, and what gives it a noticeable difference from Waylon Jennings' original recording as you can notice, is the backing vocals added to the tune. I simply LOVE the female voices accompanying Elvis during the chorus.
On the other hand, one thing I'm not sure why it happened is the minor difference in the title between the original release and Elvis' recording. The original title, as written on the cover of Waylon Jennings' 1973 album is "You Ask Me To", but in Elvis' 1975 album it's written "You Asked Me To", which are also words in the lyrics anyway but the slight change in the title for the past tense form may be a little confusing for the ones noticing it. Below, Elvis' Promised Land LP back cover and Waylon Jennings' Honky Tonk Heroes LP back cover.

"If I’m honest, the B-52’s got me to question my own prejudices. Where I was brought up there was a lot of anti-LGBTQ bigotry. When I was still a teenager, the B-52’s helped teach me to grow beyond them. For that alone I owe them a huge debt of gratitude. I was terribly saddened by Ricky’s passing and felt so sorry for the whole band.
I heard Rock Lobster on the radio and got the debut LP. I was just getting into punk rock and although I didn’t really consider the B-52’s “punk”, they were definitely breaking rules and creating music that was unconventional and groundbreaking: while disco was being derided, here was a band who it was OK to dance along to. They were so different and cool. We all loved their first two albums and I’m sure they influenced us. We definitely learned that music doesn’t have to be taken so seriously.
We learned a lot by covering 52 Girls. I loved Ricky’s sound, and of course his guitar looked so cool on a record sleeve, with its missing strings. At the time most rock guitar heroes were so bombastic and over the top, so Ricky’s understated playing and fun approach was really novel. To this day I’m still trying to find just the right Mosrite guitar in honour of him and Johnny Ramone."
- Noodles, The Offspring
"The B-52’s and Talking Heads always felt like Devo’s kindred spirits. We were all unique and not very punk. The punks didn’t like us because we weren’t orthodox, and orthodoxy permeates rock’n’roll. We’d first become aware of the B-52’s through independent record stores when we were hawking our debut single. It was exciting because I knew where they were coming from, how they were grabbing from 1960s kitsch with the beehive hairdos and the theatricality of it all. It was like they’d come from their own planet. Who on earth sings about a Rock Lobster?
It was outsider stuff with a distinctive sound that was consciously slightly retro, coming from surf music and rockabilly, but not with rockabilly beats. They’d come up through the Athens, Georgia, scene and dance clubs and were in the realm of LGBTQ [music] before such a thing was identified. They were transgressive and polarising, but in a different way to Devo. I met Kate at the Mudd Club in New York in early 79 and immediately fell for her. She had the beehive, of course, because they were always in character, which I thought was fantastic."
- Gerald Casale, Devo
"We in Talking Heads became friends with the B-52’s early on. I remember they told us: “You have to see this other band from Athens playing at Danceteria – they’re called REM.” The Athens, Georgia bands were all very supportive of one another, it seemed to me.
I produced an album with the B-52’s which ended up as an EP [Mesopotamia]. I suspect they came to me because they wanted to experiment a little bit more. Maybe that’s why the LP got cut down to an EP – or maybe the other songs weren’t up to snuff?
My favourite song from that record was Deep Sleep, which sounded like Young Marble Giants gone psychedelic. Ricky Wilson, who was such a large part of their sound, had Aids at that time, and was not around for many of the sessions. It was a pretty tough time for the band but they persevered and eventually revived. They were a tight family."
- David Byrne, Talking Heads

Album Review: Grateful Dead - Wake of the Flood: The Angel’s Share
Given all the difficulty Phil Lesh had when trying to teach “Unbroken Chain” to his bandmates, it’s no surprise the Grateful Dead ignored the song for more than two decades before finally playing it live in 1995.
Fans were ecstatic when the song finally made it to the stage. But, truth be told, the Dead had as hard a time with the “Unbroken Chain” in ’95 as they did in 1973.
The group began working on what was known as “Phil’s Song” during sessions for Wake of the Flood. As outtakes released on the digital-only Angel’s Share edition of that LP make clear, Lesh stumped his comrades with the song’s complexity, causing Jerry Garcia to complain he wasn’t having a good time.
“It’s not supposed to be fun, it’s supposed to be right,” an exasperated Lesh tells the guitarist.
“It turns around,” Lesh had said to the band earlier. “I’m telling you, it turns around so that what was the offbeat is now the one.”
Surrounded by multiple takes of the songs that would make up Wake of the Flood - “Unbroken Chain” was held for From the Mars Hotel - “Phil’s Song” is a highlight. Other insightful gems include the band, with sax player Martin Fierro in tow, poring over the sonic blueprints to construct Keith Godchaux’s “Let Me Sing Your Blues Away” from scratch and the stunningly delicate and intricate ensemble playing across four stabs at “Weather Report Suite” and three earlier takes dubbed “I Am the Rain.”
As with the previously released Angel’s Share editions of Workingman’s Dead and American Beauty, the consecutive iterations of album tracks including ‘Mississippi Half-Step Uptown Toodeloo,” “Stella Blue,” “Eyes of the World” and “Pistol Shot (China Doll)” can grow tedious; mercifully, “Row Jimmy” appears but once.
Donna Jean Godchaux must’ve added her parts toward the end of the recording process as she is a non-factor on this bonus LP, which previews the 50th-anniversary edition of Wake, slated for Sept. 29. Instead, listeners are treated to tentative vocal performances as the band works out the music, paired with chatter, false starts, aborted takes and related ephemera. This makes Wake of the Flood: The Angel’s Share a fascinating one- or two-time listen to the Grateful Dead in raw form. But it’s not something for regular spinning.
Grade card: Grateful Dead - Wake of the Flood: The Angel’s Share - B

AMY LEE Shoots Down Rumor She Is LINKIN PARK's New Singer, But Says She 'Might' Be Willing To 'Do It Part Time'
Tumblr media
In a new interview with Canada's iHeart Radio, EVANESCENCE's Amy Lee was asked about the recent rumors that LINKIN PARK has recruited a female singer and some LP fans' desire to see her step in as the replacement for that band's late vocalist Chester Bennington.
"That is an incredible compliment," she said after being told that she was a fan favorite to fill the slot (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET). "I have not heard that. No, I have not been contacted [by LINKIN PARK] or anything like that. But [I'm a] huge fan feel like our worlds, our fanbases are a lot of the same people."
She continued: "That's really sweet. We never… Well, did we play shows [together]? I don't know if [EVANESCENCE and LINKIN PARK] were on a festival together or whatever. We met. We were in the studio at the same time. When we were making 'Fallen', I just briefly got to have a conversation or two with Chester. He was really sweet.
"But no, it's not true," she clarified in regard to the rumors that could be LINKIN PARK's new singer. "But that's awesome. They should ask me about that. I don't have a ton of free time, but I might do it part time."
The rumor about LINKIN PARK recruiting a female vocalist was apparently started by ORGY frontman Jay Gordon who mentioned during a radio interview that he had "heard" that they were working with a "girl singer now". When pressed, Gordon continued by saying: "Don't quote me on that. I'm not sure who the singer is going to be, but I heard it was gonna be female. They might just try to move on like that. That ought to be interesting." Jay later seemingly walked back his comments, writing in a Facebook post that he knew "nothing about any of that" and accused "people" of taking his words "out of context."
During EVANESCENCE's 2022 tour with HALESTORM, Lee and HALESTORM frontwoman Lzzy Hale performed a cover version of LINKIN PARK's "Heavy" at every stop. Lzzy spoke about the decision to cover the track in an interview with the 105.7 The Point radio station. She said: "[Amy and I] were lobbing a couple of ideas back and forth and then, all of a sudden, we landed on LINKIN PARK. And [we thought], you know what? That would be really cool because inadvertently it would be a tribute to Chester, but also, everything that this song has been about, we've all been through that — everybody. And so it's almost this like very church moment where you walk out onstage and you're, like, 'All right. This is my church. These are my people. We're all doing this together.'"
LINKIN PARK has just released a career-spanning greatest-hits album, "Papercuts (Singles Collection 2000-2023)". The record also features a previously unreleased track with Bennington, "Friendly Fire", which was recorded during the sessions for the group's final studio album, 2017's "One More Light". Bennington died later that year.
In a 2004 interview with Revolver magazine, Chester talked about meeting EVANESCENCE in the studio, and how Amy explained to him that her record label tried to make them sound like LINKIN PARK.
"I met [EVANESCENCE] in the studio when they were recording their record. We were both recording in the same building. I was talking to [Amy]. And she was nice. She said, 'We're having these problems. Everyone at our label wants us to be you.' I told her that's lame. She agreed. She said they went as far as wanting to ask [LINKIN PARK's] Mike [Shinoda] to do a part on a song. She said, 'We knew he wouldn't do it.' So they're running around trying to get guys in other bands to do it like he would. ' I told her to be herself and tell the label to put it where the sun doesn't shine. But the next thing I heard was 'Bring Me To Life' with a guy that sounded just like Mike. It was a little upsetting."
In a 2018 interview with SiriusXM, Shinoda spoke about how he was asked to guest on "Bring Me To Life" and explained why he turned it down.
"I remember when EVANESCENCE first came out, somebody from the record label said, 'Do you want to be on this other band's song? They have this song with a singer — a female singer — and there's like, a rap part.' And I turned it down without having even known anything about the band," he said. "I didn't know anything about the band, and we didn't have anything to do with them. But I just — I just knew that, like, I did my thing in my band, and I didn't want to do my thing in another band. And when I ended up hearing the song, I went, 'Oh, I get it. I get why they wanted me on that song. Like, that would have sounded cool.' I still — I didn't want to do it, because I think, like, they have their own thing and the hardest part for EVANESCENCE was probably growing out of that moment, which they did gracefully. Part of it is just due to the fact that at the time, you know, they were writing cool stuff, and Amy's voice is just a great voice. I mean, she's just got a very powerful voice."

REVIEW: Whirlybird - Dove is a Pidgeon
Dove is a Pigeon is the debut album by New York/Atlanta based band, Whirlybird.
The group consists of one Avery Milner who serves as lyricist, vocalist and plays guitar, as well as Matthew Hare on bass and PJ McFarlane who is (primarily) on lead guitar.
On this LP, Milner and the group work with long-time collaborator, Matt Mattson of Pendulum Studios, who takes charge of production, engineering and mixing. Finally, this record was mastered by Greg Hendler of Meadowlark Audioworks.
I first found out about this project back in 2020 as they performed as part of a charity live stream hosted by fellow New York/Atlanta based band, Lowertown (who you may recognise as former Dirty Hit signees). At that point, Whirlybird’s discography was fairly small, being comprised of one EP (Hot Flashes) and a series of covers and singles uploaded between Soundcloud and Bandcamp. The set was good, Milner showcased strong vocals and guitar work as well as perseverance through what I understood to be technical difficulties.
What particularly struck me during the set, however, was the newer works that were premiered - songs that later came to be known as “Borough Trash” and “New Bird Call”.  In the weeks and months following this introduction, I delved deeper into the Whirlybird back catalogue, picking out new favourites in “Corner of k and 22nd” and “I’m green (ode to trees)” but all the while still humming the tune to Borough Trash as it soundtracked my own travels to and from the “suburbs”.
It would be another two years before we received a studio version of that song, and during that time, we were treated to a spattering of song ideas on TikTok (in a collection aptly titled “song yard”), a cover of Liz Phair’s “Flower”, two live recordings as part of the “Eat, Dog Eat!” Festival (June 2022) and finally, a short (but very sweet) set of demos titled “Carriage House Sessions”.
After that, we had the rollout to the album that I (soon!) will be reviewing today.
At 8 songs and 31 minutes, this LP is very tight - with little meandering into half-baked ideas, providing a concise showcase of what I believe to be a lot of potential.
We start with “New Bird Call” which, as I mentioned was premiered some time ago. This is a straightforward acoustic opener, both introducing us to, and highlighting Milner’s vocals, which have subtle, old-timey flavour. The tempo ebbs and flows as we move between sections, giving off a distinctly human feel.
What I really enjoyed about the studio version of this older track is that Milner and Mattson opt for a stripped back approach. The instinct in many cases would be to try and build this instrumental up, fleshing out the landscape with extraneous bells and whistles, but there’s a remarkable sense of restraint in the production choices - it’s very honest, and feels as though we can hear all the details of the room in which it was captured. There is even background chatter, which again bolsters the human quality of this song - and speaking of bells and whistles, there’s actually a solitary “bell” sound on this which punctuates the instrumental perfectly. Lyrically, this track sees Milner work in some beautiful poetic lines, with favourites of mine being “Warm wet rain fills my head, tossing, turning inside me” and “the weeping willow decides when tears will fall”.
On “Morning Do”, we pick up the pace a little, introducing shakers and drums. I liked Milner’s doubled vocals - a staple of alternative guitar music.  My only gripe is that I felt it to be a little short, Milner does well to lyrically illustrate how time can often be felt to accelerate when around those we love (so perhaps that was the point of this track), though I would’ve wanted to linger in the moment a bit longer.
As I said earlier, “Borough Trash” has been one of my favourites since I first heard it. There's something about this one that feels bright and nostalgic (not in an overbearing way, though) and it never fails to put me in a better mood. The distortion on the guitar gives the track a nice sense of warmth and the panned slides make for some nice ear candy. In terms of the song’s musical progression, I’m a sucker for major-to-major movements on guitar, so when it goes from A to Am on the refrain/chorus I’m a very happy reviewer. I was grateful that they added the extended outro because it is my favourite part of the song and when the single version omitted it, I was slightly disappointed. Overall, this track is just a solid jam, and my favourite lyric must be "If time makes no sense, then spring forward and fall back again”.
“Reciprocity” was the last single dropped before release day. I really love the tempo shifts in this one - it initially took me out of the experience, but as I kept listening, it grew on me. Lyrically, there’s a real sense of proximity both emotionally and physically, with mentions of “sharing an orange”, “watching tv” and of course… being sick, which I think nicely communicates the depth of the connection Milner describes.
“Bridge under water” This one sees, Milner describe dealing with a flood in one’s residence. There’s a nice swing to this, almost as if we, the listener are bobbing in the water alongside Milner’s possessions. I’m loving the line “I brought a show dog to a gun fight” – suggesting that Milner (or the speaker of the song) was ill equipped to deal with the flood. I’m also a big wordplay fan, so the section that ends in “Water under the bridge” is highly enjoyable.
In the case of track 6, titled “Ghosts in the Garden” I feel as though this is sort of the spiritual successor to “Too Early” off Whirlybird’s first EP, the gurgling low-end on this number has an addictive quality to it, and I love the flashes of distorted guitar – hinting at a stormy, emotionally turbulent mood that contrasts nicely with the steadiness of Milner’s voice.
“Sidewalk” I heard this track as part of the “Eat, Dog Eat!” compilation tape that dropped in 2022. The guitars have an interesting ambling pattern, reminiscent of walking. I like the addition of tambourine and piano - its subtle, but effective, with the piano being so delicate that it but fleetingly catches your attention.
“Hunting song” is a wonderfully penned closer, Milner completes the throughline of bird references that suffuse the record with flying colours. I loved the line “I'll send the cat to go catch your tongue” and the way the instrumental explodes after “Now there’s a moment” is simply wonderful.
Whirlybird have come through with a very respectable record and I hope to hear more in the future!

Every Record I Own - Day 805: The Rolling Stones El Mocambo 1977
We all know the stereotype of the pretentious and obnoxious record store clerk. But aside from a couple of overtly rude jerks I've encountered over the years, I kinda love the snobby record store guy. I mean... this is someone who listens to music ALL DAY. He handles every piece of new music coming into the store. This guy knows his shit.
Hell, I see these folks as a resource. Wanna win over a record store clerk? Ask him for a recommendation. Take advantage of that knowledge. Let him relish the fact that he knows more than you. Fuck it, I'm not trying to impress anyone (well, maybe a little bit).
So when a clerk at a record shop in Columbus MO caught me eyeing this boxset on the wall and told me "you need that," I believed him. Of course, a boxset is a bit more of a financial commitment than a single LP, but the dude knew his shit. "Bob Clearmountain mixed it. It sounds way better than the Love You Live tracks. And look at that track list!"
I didn't know who Bob Clearmountain was, but the sound engineer I was shopping with at the time was impressed. Didn't know Love You Live had a few tracks taken from the same concert, either. But hey, that's why I talk to record store clerks.
This live record from 1977 took place shortly before the Some Girls recording session. El Mocambo is a 300-cap club in Toronto. The Stones played the show under the name The Cockroaches and arranged to donate the proceeds to the Canadian National Institute for the Blind as one of the conditions for Keith Richards having his drug charges dropped by the Canadian courts.
The set is rowdy but expertly captured. The song selection spans their career and leans into a lot of deep cuts. One of the best aspects of the album is that it contains highlights from their post-Exile records that often get overlooked. If nothing else, it's worth investigating the ripping version of Black & Blue's "Hand of Fate."
Thank you, record store clerk. I've gotten a lot of mileage out of this thing.

STILL THE MOST (IN)FAMOUS GEISHA GIRLS IN THE HISTORY OF ROCK MUSIC.
PIC(S) INFO: (L to R): Spotlight on Kuniko Okamura and Michi Hirota, members of Japan's Red Buddha Theatre/dance company, photographed by American photo-artist Karl Stoecker for glam rock/art rock band SPARKS "Kimono My House" LP sleeve cover art, c. 1974.
MADELINE BOCARO: "Who were the two geishas on the cover, or were they actually guys in drag?"
RUSSELL MAEL: "The two girls were members of a Japanese dance company touring England in 1974. They are women, not men, not Ron, not me. We were very happy that Island Records allowed us not to have the name of the band nor the album title on the front cover. We thought the image alone would speak loudly enough. Try to get a company to go along with that concept today."
SLEEVE ART MINI-OVERVIEW: "The "Kimono My House" album cover, featuring two slightly askew kimono-clad geishas with absolutely no mention of the band at all, has been voted among the best album covers of all time in almost every poll taken. Beck named it again in the November 2001 issue of "Vanity Fair."
Island Records’ Marketing Director Tim Clark fashioned his promotional strategy for Sparks after the one he had implemented with ROXY MUSIC. “The very name SPARKS meant to us that the music would lend itself to a very glossy and arty feel.”  The photographer of Roxy’s glamorous album covers, Karl Stoecker and art director Nicholas de Ville were recruited to create the iconic cover of Kimono My House, though the concept of the goofy geishas was completely Ron Mael’s idea."
PART II: The two garish geishas on the cover of "Kimono My House" with smeared makeup and disheveled hair were the antithesis of Roxy’s classy covers. They laughed in the face of cover art, while at the same time making history as one of its greatest examples! One of them seems to foresee this – with a wink! The chosen cover photo was actually an outtake, shot near the end of the photo session.
It has been voted among the best album covers of all time in almost every poll taken. Beck named it again in the November 2001 issue of "Vanity Fair." The models, Michi Hirota and Kuniko Okamura were from Japan’s Red Buddha Theatre headed by Stomu Yamashta performing in London at the time. The geisha on the right is Michi Hirota, who also provides the memorable abrasive spoken Japanese vocals on the song "It’s No Game (Part 1)" on David Bowie’s "Scary Monsters" album, 1980."

hey Sarah! I am going through a lot emotionally as of late and needed to vent and thought of coming here - sorry to be a bother, but your community is very nice! this week I finished grad school!!! I am so so so happy about it. but I’m also feeling guilty bc I did not want it to end! I loved every aspect of my life in college (the independence, the classes, the classmates, the city I was living in, even the lack of stability of real adult life). it was my entire personality. of course, I have other things going on, as I knew grad school was gonna end eventually (I applied for a master’s degree, yay!) but I just fear things aren’t gonna be the same :( add to this the pressure of now having to actually find a job and make ends meet myself! it’s bittersweet bc I see my friends be very excited for the future and they were counting down the seconds to the last day of classes, and there I was, refusing to let go lol (also, I really think part of the reason I feel this is explained in Tay’s “this is me trying” speech in the lp sessions, I’m a classic type A who loves to be graded and given a star, you know?). I just wished that the future didn’t look like a dark blob and that I could hold onto what my life looked like for a little longer xx
Hi friend! This is so so so relatable. I actually vividly remember having a conversation with one of my favourite profs in j school confessing how scared I was to graduate because I'm the type of person who has always been good at school. You get used to the environment and derive comfort from it because you know you excel at it and to an extent it's also 'safe'. The stakes are grades and GPAs and class deadlines and tests.
But 'out there' it's office politics and fighting for promotions and taxes and meetings and job interviews and second job interviews and NOT GETTING JOBS YOU INTERVIEWED FOR. It's scary and unknown and very very real and also the literal rest of your entire life oh dear god WHAT.
Like I said. Very relatable.
All I can tell you from one Type A who loves a gold star and an A and the safety of a lecture hall to another - it will be okay. I promise. You'll figure it out! It will become the new normal! You will enter a new phase of life that also includes MONEY! And (hopefully) a new social network of people to be friends with and bond with! And a new schedule and reliable daily routine that you get to foster.
It is very normal and so okay to be clinging to the last sense of normalcy that you know because change is hard and terrifying.
But it will be okay!
Wishing you all the best and also freaking congratulations on all your hard work and accomplishments. You should feel so proud of yourself and all you've been able to achieve thus far!

INTERVIEW WITH DEAD, DONE BY EVIL FROM MARDUK. IT IS FROM SLAYER MAG 101994
HOW COME YOU LEFT MORBID AND MOVED TO NORWAY TO JOIN MAYHEM?
As everyone know…or should now is that Morbid never was a real band. However after the"December Moon" demo the band kinda split up. I don’t know the reason why, but we were all very different and couldn’t compromise on how Morbid should be or sound like. What’s most mysterious to me is how everybody could change so much. When I and John formed the band the band was looking for some members for the band and asked them about the thought of having a Black Metal band as Black Metal should be, but it never turned out that way. They all seemed to be totally into the idea at first, but…well…I must say that I don’t think the 2nd Morbid demo is in the same vein as the first. But why the hell do I talk about Morbid in an interview when the band never should have been featured? I talked to Euronymous on the phone and heexplained how his view of how the most brutal stage show would be and we discussed the problem that everybody wants everything to be so normal, boring and wimpy. And we totallya greed on that, I should come over and try out some rehearsals, to find out how I would fit in the band. And I guess I do fit ‘cos I’ve been singing here ever since. But the problems was that short after I joined the band we were out of rehearsal places…
YOU HAVE SAID THAT THE “DEATHCRUSH” MLP WILL BE RELEASED AGAIN, WHAT ABOUT IT?
We want to release it again, but we just don‘t know how the hell we can afford it. It was wrong to limit it and now the copies are being sold for far too much money and that wasn’t the idea at all. Those who want it can’t get it unless they are millionaires. We will never release anything limited with Mayhem again.
TELL ME ABOUT YOUR NEW LP “DE MYSTERIIS DOM SATHANAS”. WHEN WILL IT BE OUT? ANY OLD MAYHEM SONGS ON IT?
Good question…I wish I knew when! It’s planned to contain 8 tracks and to be released on D.S.P. as anti Mosh 003. When the 2nd edition of the Merciless LP has sold out and paid, the next band will go into studio (Imperator from Poland). When their 1st edition has paid we’ll go into a studio and record our LP. After the tour we have planned, if it doesn’t fuck up, we will have a session of concentrated work on the material that is missing for the LP. I can’t say muchmore about the release.
HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE A GIG WITH MAYHEM, WITH ALL YOUR EFFECTS?
We haven‘t had a real gig yet, 3 shows in Norway, but only one with parts of our stage show.We had some impaled pig heads, and I cut my arms with a weird knife and a crushed cokebottle. We meant to have a chainsaw, but the guy who owned it, had left when we came to go get it. That wasn’t brutal enough. Most of the people in there were wimps and I don‘t want them to watch our gigs! Before we began to play there was a crowd of about 300 in there, but in thesecond song “Necrolust” we began to throw around those pig heads. Only 50 were left, I liked that! The non-evil wimps shall listen to our music. We had a great time throwing  the heads on each other. I got angry at some idiots who had their heads up in the air, so I wiped the blood onmy arms all over again, We wanna scare those shouldn’t be at our concerts, and they will have to escape through the emergency exit with parts of their body missing, so we can have something to throw around. Some imagine for some weird reason that Death Metal is something normal and available for everyone. Unfortunately they are right… If you have seen pictures of bands like Defection, Benediction or Righteous Pigs etc. you know what I mean. If you go into an ordinary school, you will surly see half of them wearing Morbid Angel, Autopsy and Entombed shirts, and once again I will vomit! Death Black Metal is something all ordinary mortals should fear, not make into a trend! Some years ago it did not exist at all. When Morbid had it’s first gigs almost no one had heard that kind of music before. Metallica or VNA… But hopefully those who jumped on to Death Metal will leave it soon to the real people who have always listened to it. It took some years or so till the trendy HC bands jumped over to Grind. It took shorter time till Grind was out, and I hope it won’t take long before they leave Death Metal to us who do not choose music after fashion. That’s one reason for having a stage show. The wimps will not ever understand it, and I won’t explain it to them either. But they got pissed off at our shows and that is what we want. If someone doesn’t like blood and rotten flesh thrown in their face they can FUCK OFF, and that’s exactly what they do. We are trying to turn the scene back to what it once was, when no Death Metallers were wearing Adidas shit and looked totally normal. The hassle is of course to bring stuff from the slaughterhouse to gigs abroad.

The Libertines give update on new album with “different energy”
The band have also shared details of a new song from their fourth LP
ByDamian Jones
Tumblr media
The Libertines have given an update on their forthcoming new album with frontman Carl Barât saying that it will have a “different energy”.
READ MORE: Five things we learned from our In Conversation video chat with The Libertines
The band worked on the record in Jamaica, with Pete Doherty saying previously that they had a “productive” summer working on new material for the band’s fourth studio album before the European leg of their recent tour.
“It’s been quite productive. Just trying to write some new songs,” he said at the time. He also previously told NME that he was confident that the record would be out by the end of 2022, but that hasn’t come to fruition.
On their recent sessions, Doherty has now told NME‘s In Conversation series: “We put a few new songs together, me and Carl.”
Barât added: “Now the four of us just have to learn and play them, and write a few more.
“Sonically, we want to do something we haven’t done before… I think we’ll be looking to do something with a different energy than before. But we’re not at that stage yet.”
youtube
The pair also shared details of a new track called called ‘Shiver’ which Doherty explained has “got a real sentimental hark back” to previous Libertines cuts ‘The Delaney’, ‘France’ and ‘Music When The Lights Go Out’. Co-frontman Barât agreed, adding: “Yeah, ‘Shiver’’s great. I was listening to that last night, actually.”
Drummer Gary Powell told NME in August that his focus was on “forging forward” with the band’s fourth album. “The good thing is everybody’s been writing,” Powell said. “Obviously, we’re not going to try and reinvent the wheel… but I think we can push the boat out a little more while still bringing something that has the same emotional integrity and dynamism that the audience craves when they come to a Libertines show.”
When they first started work on the record in 2019, Doherty said that the band had been exploring a number of ambitious directions on new material, likening it to the diversity of The Clash‘s divisive ‘Sandinista’.
“Carl wants to do a ‘Sandinista’ thing with all these mad ideas that we’ve got, so we’ll have all these freestyle things and folky things, then there’s the more traditional Doherty/Barat songs,” Doherty said at the time. “I don’t think the Gary and John songs are part of that, because they’re really, really strong songs.”
Doherty continued: “It’s all very positive, but it’s been murder getting to that because I was very unsettled and uncomfortable for those first sessions. I didn’t know that everyone else was, but it turns out that there was great results from that. Everyone came out going ‘What the fuck’s going on with this band, right?’”
The Libertines’ last album came by way of 2015’s ‘Anthems For Doomed Youth’, and was called by former NME journalist Matt Wilkinson at the time “the most rounded album The Libertines have ever made”.

health update TW in tags
I had to find my last update to see where I left off. Oofta. Things have progressed in both a good and bad way! I’d love to say only good lol dear god I wish I could say everything is just g o o d for once. I’m currently going through an emotional upheaval because of how badly my home life is and coming to realize I’m in an abusive situation with the last person on earth I thought that could happen. I’ve lost the last safe person ‘in real life’ that I have because of this. My mom. She is my solid rock and 100% full time supporter and this situation of becoming my nearly full time caregiver and the stresses it has put on her (let alone me) have, uh. Well, brought out the worst. It’s devastating honestly. My therapist has been a little too pushy for my liking trying to get me to hire home health help but 1. money 2. insurance would need a diagnosis if we went through them and idk if ‘hey we sliced up her nerves in her back during an LP and didn’t find out until five months in’ would cut it 3. I don’t really need it anymore. But yeah emotionally I am wrecked. My mom refuses therapy or family therapy so I have to keep surviving this kind of horrific situation I’m in lol it’s been bad the entire time but I finally snapped months into it and started laying down hard boundaries and for those of you familiar with abusers, you’ve probably experienced the joy of their reactions to boundaries. :) It’s situational because my mom has never been this way with me in my life but I feel like 31 years went down the drain in *months* and the things she’s said and done can’t be completely recovered from. I don’t know what to do. Once I’m out of this situation I can tell her that the only way I will ever feel comfortable being open with her again is to do family therapy but 🤷‍♀️ can’t make her do anything, so we’ll see. Physical health wise re: the LP horror show? BETTER! I’m getting better. I started physical therapy a month ago and I think I’ve had 6 sessions? Maybe 7? Idk. Leaps and bounds. I can sit on a toilet by myself. I can sit and stand everywhere but one place by myself and it’s only because my couch is wasted lmao and I need help up for the same reason. Otherwise? All me. We’re practicing getting up by myself from my recliner (can do just fine) and getting down and comfortable with everything I need (still a work in progress) so my mom can go to her home more and work more and we both get independence!!!!! I am going to sit at my computer chair and see how long I last before it hurts but I need my body to get used to sitting up again. Otherwise, the two guys I work with (one, mostly, as the other is v quiet) is THRILLED with how well I’m doing and that even if I’m tired/in pain I get through PT every time. I’m super psyched actually. Legit PUMPED every time I step into this place. It feels fantastic. I can’t wait to see where I am in another month. Maybe out of this recliner except when I willingly want to be in it 😂 but still gonna pace myself and listen to my body. I saw my pain specialist yesterday (who ordered the PT) and I told her and she said she had literal goosebumps and she was so happy for me. It felt really good to hear ;3; Unfortunately, head pressure is getting bad but hey at least I got the LP done 🙄 need to lose weight and adjust meds and hopefully get the rest of my normal life back someday. Gonna needs lots of trauma therapy to get there too. So that’s far off. I’ve not been feeling too well lately generally tho and I’m nervous b/c I have labs for my hematologist on Monday and she wants to check for ‘other leukemias and lymphomas’ so hhhhhh. I’ll see her a couple weeks after that and I’m afraid she’s gonna order the bone marrow biopsy but u_u what can I do Anyway. Hope you’re all doing okay. Love you all and thanks for always listening and supporting me. It means the world. 💜

One year later since my last post...
I'll have to say, so many things have changed. For the better. But also, I couldn't have been more out of touch with my own feelings. Time that could be used reflecting went on to the following:
Spending time with said ex-colleague, our relationship has evolved into something stable, comforting. A little less lonely in this city
New apartment by myself, furnishing/cleaning (I have so much more to say about this hehe)
New job with new benefits and perks, long work hours yet still having work life balance. Time spent learning how to deal with breaking news, make sense of filings, find specific figures, to make sense of this financial work
Everything is nice, but I am also yearning for more?
Boyfriend: how we can have a better quality relationship instead of just being each other's ranting bags/favour do-ers. Quite frankly we are in different phrases of life. I got out of my rut, while he's still knee deep in his. I don't want to discount his troubles, but damn the negative vibes sometimes just eats to me. For someone who's been in a rut I ought to be more understanding, but I also can't discount my own feelings of wanting something more than just "ugh everything in my life sucks" vibes creeping around me all the time. what is the right sense of balance in this case?
New apartment: I find myself becoming much happier since I moved to this space. A space that is truly mine, without much sharing apart from bf coming over regularly and helps with logisitics/some chores/companionship. I think for the first time in my life I truly feel like I'm creating a safe space, a HOME for myself. I never felt like that in the past. So that leaves me wanting to do more for this house. A new air fryer? More decor? fancy plates? A projector? What can i buy to make my home more homely? Or am I just spending too much and having to make space for so many more new items which could drag me down potentially? i'm also becoming neater and more organised (i know right who am i), so how do i want my space to be respected?
New job: how can i do more to drive up the career ladder? do i even want to do that when i already have enough in terms of pay and benefits? or do i want to keep building that validation amognst my colleagues and managers? what is it that i want to do for myself at this job? truth be told, its a cushy job that comes with high;y stressful moments and so so so much more to learn as well. how do i keep that balance of learning more without overwhelming myself?
I haven't been going for therapy ever since that B*etterH*lp counsellor semi-ghosted me after our last session. The good thing is my company now has quite a few mental help resources, so i'm trying to restart my therapy journey again. because despite all the new and good thigns coming in, i find myself shoving all my inner feelings and moments for self-reflection aside. sometimes the negative thoughts creep in, and i just feel kinda disillusioned/jaded in a way. i feel like i want to push people away and just be on my own. and i dont know why. i feel like it could be because im expecting more from my bf and hes just been too cooped up in his own negativity/issues.
i spend too much time doom-scrolling and thinking about all the other things that needed my immediate attention more. why would i spend time digging up on how my parents raising me has made me who i am today, when i have to spend time soothing my bf or preparing a tv hit for monday or thinking of what to cook for dinner or just being on twitter reading up on wars and influencer gossip? which is why i am finally back on this little space of mine.
I need time for myself to reflect.

Silverplanes – “Down The Drain” (Video Premiere)
Today I’m so excited to bring everyone the latest video from space rock trio, Silverplanes, called “Down The Drain.” On this eclectic single from Silverplanes, they channel their love for Alt-Rock hooks in the style of Smashing Pumpkins, paired with the pop sensibilities of Rooney, in a unique way that is sure to leave a mark on the music scene. The band shared: ”Down the Drain” is about life passing by so quickly and one day looking back thinking, how did I get here? What happened to all the things we were going to do? Realizing you have changed but you’re still the same deep inside, and finally coming to terms with all the crazy things that have happened and resolving to carry on. The video captures various stages of myself visiting past and future. Silverplanes will be releasing their debut LP, Airbus, on April 5th. I was also able to catch up with this band for a brief interview below. In the past, Silverplanes has stuck with the EP format, what made you feel like this was the right moment for you to  release your debut LP? We recorded 39 songs in total when we did the EPs too. This record was really ready to come out mid-2020 and you know what happened then so we decided to hold it.  We have another 13 song record getting mixed currently ready for release in August or September and we are tracking now as well. Time to get prolific we aren’t getting any younger… The color silver is a heavy theme for you, both in the band’s name as well as its appearance. What is it that draws you to the color, and what makes it a core part of the act’s identity? Silver we are drawn to for its metallic futuristic feel. I used to be called future man for the way I dressed. Very modern avant garde style clothing. I think it came from that. And our love of the skies and travel. We did a jam session for names when we were starting out and silver kept coming into it. Silver the poor man’s gold…lol The video for “Down The Drain” juxtaposes your past and future, featuring both your father and son alongside some futuristic visuals. Where did the idea for this video come from?  The idea started with director Jon Danovic coming to me with the idea to make a video of a man and woman trying to be together again after a breakup and one being stuck in the real world one being stuck in the digital world. Like so many of us are today. You can get sucked into the phone or computer for a whole day and come out and be like wow, what happened? I was going over that idea with him and I said the songs not really about that. The song is about me thinking about my past trying to come to terms with it realizing I probably would’ve done it the same way even if I had another chance to do it, and I came up with the idea how about my father and my son in the video, but really emulating me in the past me in the future and then we had to have Jack Douglas and as a cameo and I think actually he was the best acting possibly of the whole thing but we wanted him to be in it at that point and we decided to do the video on that premise. --- Please consider becoming a member so we can keep bringing you stories like this one. ◎ https://chorus.fm/features/silverplanes-down-the-drain-video-premiere/
