Bonnie deserved to have gotten everything and more.
I'm glad for the pro Bonnie Bennett fans that put so much effort into their work. I love reading ya'lls, metas, theories, stories, and what ifs. Your edits, celebrations, planned events, and watching your edits!
I love our interactions and discussions. A lot of talented people with great ideas. Your passion is noted and welcomed.
Try not to be discouraged by the negativity or antis. To navigate through fandom is already hard by itself.

heehee hoo hoo procrastinating things so i rant here
#this is all on my mind because recently i interacted with one of those like... twitter akechi stans who are in an echo chamber of#akechi/akeshu. and its just impossible to talk about anything because a)the characters can't be divorced from each other. akira only exists#to prop up akechi and be his cute bf and in a way vice versa for akechi but at least he's allowed to be a bitchy asshole/have more emotions#and its considered 'cute'.#b) in those circles there's a very specific interpretation of akechi that really grates me which makes it even harder for me to take things#seriously or speak when whatever we're talking about is completely at odds.#and its not like I'm inserting myself into akeshu convos and going 'wow youre wrong' we were literally just talking about akira and akechi.#no romance. just them as characters and about the persona awards and its just bah bah bah bah bah shipping#and akeshu is a good pairing but man some of y'all make me go 'damn its not That good'#UGH and that's another reason why i find it hard to hold a conversation about anything regarding royal. because it all fucking boils down#to akeshu and 'maruki being the no.1 akeshu shipper hehe!!!' thats WEIRD you know thats really weird right#and so tiring. i know 3rd sem focuses on akira n kechi's relationship but like. you can talk about it in a way that isnt sosssososohggtgrgh#running out of steam for this rant i forget my original topic i just wanted to yell#idk man i just want nuance. please. i think this ends up being true for any fandom that gets too steeped in shipping#but Fuck nuance is one of the core themes of persona 5 and yet people don't have any

Charlastor brainworms anon here again. I was reading your reply to a recent ask and i have to say I agree, and also it's really silly to me that some people act like charlastor is some kind of morally dubious ship.
I don't think anyone's here to ship this because they want it to be canon, it's honestly just for fun! There's nothing wrong with it being non-canon compliant.
As an aroace lesbian, charlie isn't even lesbian herself, just in a lesbian relationship. So many ships split up canon pairings anyway, it's not something new. And i think people tend to forget aromanticism and asexuality are broad spectrums, it's not a black and white one or the other. The aroace label can encompass a lot of different identities, and there are many ways to pair alastor and charlie while still respecting his identity. He could be romance favorable, or they could be queer platonic, or people could just generally have different headcanons for him. It's also very telling that I don't see people bringing up how he's aroace nearly as much with radioapple or other ships. Fan works don't have to be an exact mirror of whatever's canon, and that's not the serious issue that some people act like it is.
Right?
I've generally noticed in recent years that people act so much more viciously towards non-canon ships when they're het-presenting.... :')
I think a lot of it has to do with how fandoms generally tend to assign more inherent moral value towards more visibly queer pairings... Combine that with the bs that is twitter's infestation of performative activism and morality policing in modern age fandom culture and this is the result lol
What gets me is the sheer fucking hypocrisy of it all tbh?
People keep conflating Aromantic and Asexual and confusing them with one another in their anti posting about this ship and it will never not be the bane of my goddamn existence tbh, especially because they're not even consistent with what ships they apply this criticism to, as you've also pointed out.
I will personally assume that anyone who can't tell these two labels apart and acts like they're one and the same yet whines about shippers not respecting Alastor's canon sexuality is probably nobody worth listening to anyways.
Charlie btw is canonically bisexual, and the amount of blatant fucking bi erasure I keep seeing people do just to feel morally superior for calling her a lesbian like it's a clever argument against a non-canon ship is so tiring...
Ultimately the best course of action is to silently block and ignore them.
Can we go back to that era of the internet where people would explore shipping two characters just because they stood next to each other for three frames or because their color schemes match or something equally insignificant?
We had so much more fun getting creative with how we just made random dolls kiss for fun back then :(

So, what's the real appeal in Ed/May? I see that this popular, but over all the show I see aproximately zero positive moments/development between them, including in the finale. Nothing positive, I can't think of anything that wasn't one-sided or outright negative. And I think Ed deserves faaar better than her; I don't see him just forgeting all she made and sudenly falling in love with her (fanfics where they're just dating out of nowhere specially irks me) without any explanation or development.
The appeal seems just ''pair the dumb/goofy ones'' (why not Ed/Nazz? Or Ed/Rolf? Or even Ed/Jonny?)
Honestly, I'm under the impression people only ship it as a Beta Couple for Edd/Eddy, and nothing else more. Your reasoning?
Wow I’m actually pretty glad I got this question because I’ve had a half baked post on this very subject that’s been sitting in my drafts for weeks. Now I have a reason to actually share it.
And from the jump, no I don’t ship Ed and May solely because I’m an eddeddy shipper. I actually see some interesting potential here! I also ship Ed wildly because he’s just a lover boi in my mind. Perhaps even most wildly out of the entire cast of the show: I have the receipts for dabbling in edrolf and ednazz but I can really only imagine those pairings as little flings.
So what is it about edmay that works?
Of the three Kanker sisters, May actually seems to be the only one to genuinely have a crush on her preferred Ed. It goes beyond the typical taunting and harassing her sisters subject the other Eds to. The intro to Hanky Panky Hullabaloo is a prime example of this: May makes a mushy valentine and Marie and Lee make fun of her for it. Afterwards the two talk about May behind her back: “Now we know who got mom’s genes.” “Hormones”. I think it's an interesting summary of how the sisters have differing perspectives on relationships and how they think about boys/men. While Marie and Lee are more disenchanted by romance, they see May as more naive and prone to getting emotionally attached in the same way their mom probably falls for one disappointing man after another. Anyway, the point is that I think May cares whether Ed reciprocates those feelings while Marie and Lee don’t with Eddy or Edd.
Tumblr media
CUTE!
Now we have Ed’s reactions to May. In the earlier seasons, he doesn’t seem as averse to the Kanker harassment. Honestly sometimes he’s sort of enjoying it or just not bothered at all. I don’t think Ed generally would show his interests or feelings in a very typical way. Actually the most damning evidence that he might actually be attracted at all to May or just girls period are the moments where he is acting the most repulsed by them. We are talking about a 12 year old after all, probably a bit panicked by some new hormones and feelings about “icky girls”: to me, it reads as the early stages of immature boyish attraction.
I’d be remiss if I didn’t include at least one reference to the Ed-cyclopedia that is Kevin Lordi (as per usual), who got the scoop that the writers toyed with the idea of making Ed and May canon in the earlier seasons, even scraped S2 episode where they are caught kissing in the bushes being the basis for HPH (Lordi 2017, 2018).
So what is in this ship for them? I really like exploring this ship because of many of the parallels I see in their characters. I think it’s safe to say that Ed and May are respective outliers in their trios: May being the younger punching bag to her older sisters, Ed sort of being off on his own planet or plane of existence from Edd and Eddy most of the time. I could see both naturally branching out on their own while the remaining two are prone to buddying up. Other similarities, as you mention, also make them a cute pair: they are goofy, a bit ditzy, naturally kind hearted, a bit off beat, a tad (or a lot) gross. Nothing wrong with that!
Both come from pretty bleak home lives, lacking in support or parental nurturing. For this reason, you see them often compensating by being the nurturing types themselves: Ed being the protective big brother to Sarah and his two best pals, May often playing out a maternal fantasy (more than once she plays mommy and baby in the show; coddling Jimmy in BPS). Now just think of a relationship where these two get together!!! Having an outlet for compassion AND on the receiving end of it. I think they have the potential to have a very sweet relationship ripe for healing and personal growth.
I see them coming to appreciate each other with a bit of time and maturity, maybe striking up a friendship first before actually dating later in their teens or early adulthood. Oddly enough I make lots of parallels between Edd and May as well and could easily imagine some aspects of Edd and Ed’s friendship manifesting in edmay. The biggest factor being what I said about May having this maternal care-taker drive. Seeing as the Kanker sisters just about raised themselves and had to grow up really fast, you end up with a very “parentified” child. And if Edd isn’t the poster child for being a parentified kid I don’t know what… Anyway, in the same way that Edd acts as a stand-in parental figure to Ed I think May would quickly take on a similar role. I’m NOT endorsing this dynamic as 100% positive!!! I think it would be complicated! But it’s an interesting ship dynamic nonetheless and I’m trying to explore that in my aged up AU now.

Strong Girl Nam Soon is falling into that sweet spot for me between being good and entertaining enough to make me invested in it and having sufficient flaws to make me deeply frustrated.
So obviously I'm going to analyse it way more than it deserves!
I think
The characterisation (or lack of it) of Nam Soon herself. Quite a lot to delve into here. She started off with a really intriguing origin and character with lots of directions in which she could go in... and she just hasn't developed at all really. She starts up very idealistic and naive which is understandable considering her upbringing. She acts charming in a childish way. She is rash and thoughtless but fundamentally good-hearted and on the side of the underdog and uses her powers for good. All of these are qualities that make sense in who she is but she is very immature. The show keeps these qualities but instead of interrogating them and allowing her to mature realistically while suffering inevitable set-backs and challenges to her idealism, she keeps all of this, is somehow incredibly attractive to both the hero and villain (despite her child-like tone and mannerisms - I genuinely find this so odd) and adds being a super spy to her list of accomplishments. (Surely being a good spy is literally the opposite set of skills to being good at brute force and not thinking before you act?) Dare I say it... she's a Mary Sue! Which leads onto the second issue with Nam Soon which is she is both over-powered and not given enough to do with her powers. The first few episodes showed her frequently using her super strength and it was very cool and superhero-like and fitted the apparent theme (and name) of the show. But she's rarely used them in the latter half of the show. Meanwhile she also has super speed, super vision and I'm sure something I'm forgetting. If she's got these skills, she needs to use them frequently and to advance the plot or it feels quite pointless. Instead, we see her playing the role of a spy which feels totally OOC. How is she so good at lying all of a sudden? It doesn't fit at all with the character we were introduced to in the first couple of episodes. Someone who just builds a ger in the middle of a public park and beats up everyone who tries to stop her without any thought for consequences is... not going to be good at a danger-filled spy mission in a high security mafia joint. Right???? It's hard to care too much about Nam Soon because there seem to be no consequences to her actions, she doesn't seem to respond realistically to what happens around her based on her own established character, and she doesn't seem to have developed from the beginning to close to the end of the drama.
Second issue is the way the romance(s) are being played. Look, I'm happy for the grandma and all and I think it's lovely she's getting a romance with sweeping soundtrack and dramatic moments but it is a bit odd that this is the relationship that is getting the most attention in the show. Nam Soon and Hee Sik are adorable and I can get behind a cute relationship without ridiculous manufactured impediments but very little attention is given to it and just as Nam Soon's character is very static, so is the relationship. There are no issues between the pair of them (and there easily should be) and their relationship doesn't seem to impact the other at all and make them grow individually as well as together, which a really good fictional relationship should do. It's cute - and that's it. As for Ryu Si-o, hmm, another puzzle. I'm usually behind villain romances and redemption arcs (I'm a Reylo shipper, for goodness sake) but I'm struggling to see it here. Mainly because Nam Soon acts so childish, I feel a bit icky shipping her in a relationship that is so adult coded. I know she's an adult (I'm not some weird purity shipper who can't deal with a bit of an age gap) but the way the actress plays the character makes her come across as so immature that I just can't read it romantically. And she has no interest in him. Nothing he says seems to sway her or interest her. She's a good little foot soldier and nothing else. Which is very boring, but that's the characterisation... Frustating. And don't get me started on the bizarre way Nam Soon's family is gunning for this "you have consummate this relationship and have strong girls when you're 22". Any normal person would be running for the hills! Why is this not creepy and an issue? Very bizarre.
The way the characters are forced to be unbelievably stupid to make the plot work. Like, it seems TOTALLY unbelieavable that Nam Soon has not been caught. She's really unconvincing as a spy - why is nobody running better background checks on her? How has Si-o not found Nam Soon before? Like, with his resources, it can't be hard! Why is nobody suspicious? Why did the police department let their supervisor lick a known deadly drug then believe him when he said he was okay and not take him to hospital etc.? Absolutely clown behaviour. Why does Geum Joo take the trouble of putting bodyguards around her family because they are all in danger but her closest confidante doesn't come into work on a very important day and won't answer the phone, just texts to say "she's ill" and Geum Joo is like "Sure, that sounds legit"? Why did nobody communicate about Nam In and the symptoms of the drug? The whole Nam In plot altogether... Why are the men in the family not just "not strong" but completely emasculated and massive losers? We're apparently dealing with wealthy and successful people but they're all behaving like complete incompetents! Which would be funny if the show had retained the comic tone it started with but it's got quite dark and so it's tonally off.
Okay. Enough whinging. Under the cut, I'm going to give some suggestions for how I would rewrite aspects of the show to try to make it less frustrating. (I'm so close to writing fanfic but I know I won't haha.)
First, the things I'd definitely keep:
The grandma's entire plot
Geum Joo being a total badass
Nam Soon's initial characterisation (and her plaits)
Cute romance with Hee Sik
Si-o's characterisation and tragic backstory
The drug plot - I don't mind it at all
In other words, I'd keep the show telling the same story but I'd alter the characterisation.
Nam Soon would have a lot more inner conflict, which she can have without losing a fundamentally optimistic outlook. She finds it very hard to living in Korea. Her homeless friends play a much bigger role and she dedicates herself to trying to make social changes to make society more egalitarian and is continually frustrated by her inability to make progress within the system. It leads to clashes with her mother after an initial honeymoon phase of being reunited who cannot understand why she can't just throw money at individuals and consider it done and why Nam Soon even grows to resent her own family's wealth. It also leads to clashes with Hee Sik, whose role as a police officer means he is upholding the very social order she finds so unfair. On the other hand, it drives her towards Ryu Si-o who she discovers knows more than anyone else in her life about destitution and who is willing to operate outside the law to effect change.
I also think it would be very interesting to have Si-o discover very early on who Tsetseg is. She is a terrible liar and not sneaky at all so he realises first that she is planted as a spy but she is so obviously terrible at it that he is more amused than angry and then he digs around and realises she is Nam Soon. He realises all this before/as he develops feelings for her. He decides to keep her around to keep the enemy close but quickly finds her straight forward attitude which comes through despite her best intentions and frustrations with many of the things that frustrate him too compelling and he ends up getting distracted from his business with the drugs in order to do big bad mafia villain type things like funding soup kitchens. And of course, social justice warrior Nam Soon who is learning about class inequality and really trying to do something about it is shown to mature by her dropping her childlike tone and mannerisms over the course of the show.
Honestly, can this end up being a Hee Sik/Nam Soon romance when he has so little he can contribute to her development? I'm honestly not sure. It depends how far down the redemption path you're willing to take Si-o. And I don't know how the show will end but redemption by death is so boring...
More exploration of strength and how Nam Soon and Si-o parallel each other. Oh botheration, no matter how I try to look at it, they ought to have the most compelling dynamic for a ship! It's just Nam Soon's mannerisms that stop me shipping it. :( On paper, it's a no brainer! Maybe I'll just plan a superhero/villain original romance instead!
Anyway, I just wish this show made more sense and was more coherent because I do like it enough to be engaged and invested. And the ideas and initial characters were so cool. Geum Joo - what a bamf! A whole series about her but without her strange lack of attention to issues with people near her... or deal with it properly as a significant character flaw.

ouattober2023 Day 4: Fav Quote
Tumblr media
"You're Frankenstein. And I'm the werewolf. I ate my boyfriend. Regina thought she was punishing us by erasing who we were. But I think she underestimated how much crap we wanted to forget."
-- Ruby, 2x12 In the Name of the Brother
I can't do pretty graphics to collect some funny, insightful, inspiring moments. But I can think of one of my favorite scenes from Season 2, that set up a big theme (that sadly wasn't followed through imho) and I can ramble about it.
First of all shout out to the FrankenWolf shippers out there. While I'm not invested, I can see the appeal to this. This moment set up a monster angle nicely, a cool contrast to the (Disney) fairytale about princesses and love. It's a step removed from just villain, monsters can live in the inbetween. Imagine Ruby and Whale being around when Mr Hyde showed up (throw in a vampire, because Storybrooke deserves to have a previously unmentioned castle somewhere with a suspiciously coffin-shaped table in the living room).
So, that quote? Masterful. Even in a town filled with all sorts of people of peculiar backgrounds (dwarves, fairies, witches, talking animals), some come with a stigma, marked as bad. This goes with what Leroy says in the same episode, when he mentions E.T. and getting cut up by the government, which goes for everything magic. A follow-up to him and Ruby bringing up that point the episode prior. Some magic wasn't even liked in the Enchanted Forest. It was a dangerous place, not just songbirds and romance.
Not to be a Regina-apologist (yes, given them indoor plumbing surely improved some aspects of life), she very much doomed them to a certain kind of misery. But I love how Ruby here - without anybody of significance (sorry, Whale) hearing - frames the curse as a second chance. Free from the burden of accidentally killing her True Love. Free from the wolf altogether, until magic hit (which is Rumple's doing). It is also interesting to remember that for Regina to enjoy her triumph, she had to remember everything that had happened. She had to keep the good and the bad for her victory. The townsfolk lived mundane lives, void of their happy endings, but also not knowing the full horrors of their lives (look at all the trauma that gets uncovered later on).
For the whole of Season 2 this is a great moment. It goes hand in hand with David and Mary Margaret arguing about where to live, do they even want to go back? It follows up on how dangerous it could be to have magic in a world without magic (becoming a circus attraction). It's also a reminder that "back home" means tragedy and misery for some. What does it mean to have this second "modern world persona" intigrated, to be a somewhat new person.
Of course being the Ruby stan I am, I love this quote for the simple angst of it all. And the way Ruby speaks about Peter's death is a whole evolution. (So far as to maken a joke out of it in front of Merida and Mulan, until she finally uses the word "killed" instead of "ate" when talking to Dorothy.) The whole monster-to-monster thing is cute and I wouldn't have minded a friendship coming out of it. A specific perspective when confronting new threats. And I wish I could have seen Ruby laughing in Regina's face "You think being held back in life by staying with my sick grandma is the worst??". Cursed!Ruby was a naive smalltown girl dreaming big, she was not happy and felt stuck. Yeah, sure sucks. But Red carried the burden of killing innocent people unknowingly and even killing her own mother, when choosing herself instead of what anybody else wants her to do. Red's freedom came with a high price. (And then her loneliness continues, while her friends move on, oops.)

Between the implied incest between Ult Dirk and Rosebot and Rosebot and Terezi I’d prefer Rosebot <3< for one caveat.
For the decreasing population of Vrisrezi shippers, Terezi going with Rosebot cucks Vriska from her destined Moirail turned Matespirit, Terezi. (I mean moiraileigence is already romance and soulmates but Matespiritship is seen as traditional human romance… and sex between the pair for SMUT)
Of course Rosebot with anyone else but Kanaya cucks Kanaya.
So we have Kanaya and Vriska, two cucked by their girlfriends, so how do you cope with this double cuck? And say, do you remember 2 female trolls from Act 5 Act 1 who had a one sided crush on the other broken by flirtation with a lowblood?
Maybe they give them a second chance.
Well I guess there’s a problem that Vriska is still 16 in Beyond Canon while Kanaya is in her 20s… in sweeps.
But what the hell! It’s lesbianism! And can we forget Meenah and Vriska’s relationship? Let’s be consistent.
Anyways! Vriska <3 Kanaya is better than postcanon Rosemary.
Tumblr media
Vriska x Kanaya aka Spidermoth is better than Davekat.
This is also the same Terezi too that actually had SEX with John and is now carrying his dead body in hopes of reviving him. Whether he becomes June or not, even he will have to find out eventually that Terezi had black flirted with Rosebot. Another heartbreak commence. For trolls, it is natural for them to enter in polygamy relationship because of quadrants, but in the case for humans like Rose and John, they had accepted monogamy. One even went through literal marriage before Rosebot left Kanaya. And Kanaya had to learn and accept about monogamy from human culture. If she finds out that Rosebot had flirted with both Dirk and Terezi, then she will call her a hypocrite and question herself on why she had thought monogamy was a good idea if it ends in heartache. I am curious how Vriska would react to all this. She would think she has grown better as a person. Would she think that Terezi is still the same or changed for the worse? Would VRISKA herself start to accept her own presence was the reason Terezi became this way and acknowledges their relationship, friendship or any quadrant kind, is toxic and they shouldn't be together? That would be an interesting character growth for Vriska if she herself sees that being the Scourge Sisters has ended its course. It would be in lovingly full circle for Kanaya to see that Vriska has gotten better as a person and knowing that she can't always idolize the bad girl persona. Kanaya would finally get her wish and dream granted of finally being with Vriska.

It's nice to see nejihina fans. I honestly thought they all disappeared because of the nejit*n shippers. Cause I was actually harassed by them a long time ago when I pointed out their is no romance between the 2 and the hyuga clan is very strict and noble and like every other clan have incest. The clan breed inside with each other like brother x sister and cousin x cousin.
Hi!!! Thanks for bringing this topic to the table.
I am very very sad to encounter quite few NejiHina shippers when I know it was such a big shipdom!
First I want to say that I absolutely agree with you about the Hyuga Clan being a noble, strict Clan that practices the endogamy EVEN MORE than any other Clan, and let's be honest, I don't think a Clan that went to such lengths to protect their Kekkei genkai would allow marriages outside the clan. Let's just think about Hinata's case, thanks to that marriage now there's an Uzumaki out there with a (very questionable) Byakugan 🙃. As if Hyuga Clan would allow that in the canon context they were introduced.
That, and also the fact that every single member on the Hyuga Clan have white eyes and Byakugan, unlike for example Uchihas amongst whom Sharingan was no always present.
Noooow, back to the NejiHina shippers topic, I'll be very honest about this, I don't think it's NejiTen shippers fault, although I know some of them have harassed NejiHina shippers too. I think is more about neo-puritans on the internet that harras NejiHina shippers under the excuse that NejiHina is incest; well, it isn't, is endogamy. I respectfully invite them to investigate both terms and try to understand the difference, because it exists and it's quite big.
The problem is, I think, people forget in the first place that this is fiction, and it's fiction from an eastern country. This is important because I see most haters harassing NejiHina shippers are western people judging it from a western POV. You need to contextualise a piece of fiction under the values it is written in to be able to understand it. But they don't.
Now, endogamy was VERY prevalent on both East and West until not that long ago, and it still exists to some extent on both sides of the world; it's a matter of keeping the power and wealth inside the family, that's why royalty and upper class families have done it for centuries.
And that sounds like something Hyuga Clan being a noble clan, wealthy and possessor of the Byakugan would absolutely do, and I believe in all honesty they do.
So I've known about some NejiHina shippers that have abandoned the shipdom or "disguised themselves" because of this, neo-puritans harassing them so hard until they felt guilty for liking what they like (NejiHina) which absolutely sucks and makes me so angry, why can't people understand they have no right to dictate what others are allowed to like or ship? Gosh, the entitlement of these persons thinking they own the absolute truth and their word is law 😡.
Ok, I recovered.
To end this long long answer I just want to say that we NejiHina shippers very much still exist and stand by our ship, and we are still around creating content and talking about our OTP, although not as openly because of the harassers, sadly.

every single ship/couple on the show is either VERY problematic or toxic, so fans picking and choosing who is better is stupid. every single male character in the show has done something problematic and I mean EVERY single male character. The day the fandom just admit that every ship/couple is problematic/toxic is the day the HOTD fandom will know peace and the day shippers just admit that they only give certain male characters a pass because they find them attractive is the day we'll know peace.
*EDITED POST* (4/28/24)
i do agree that some male characters are given a pass when they shouldn't, however there are some who people acknowledge are bad, amoral, morally ambiguous, or just plain evil but ship them with certain people bc of various reasons. The human experience is not just about being "moral" 100% of the time, or being "rational"; other times, it's about fun and thrill and empathizing with a feeling, etc.
There is also reason why some ships are canonically real and lasted with little internal conflict between the couple (w/o there being an external intervention not of either their faults) and why some did not...
And why are "fucked up" people's relationships/love in fucked up or dangerous situations not "real"? Or valid?
I consider it to be a sort of miracle when this does happen, so I tend to positively fascinated! Because they tend to be more passionate, even thought they may not always be the most dramatic. Two (or more) people find each other and come to trust each other despite the odds or what could never or not as likely happen anywhere else? Sign me up! (except parent-child, grandparent-grandchild incest; physical abuse; emotional abuse; teens with 40 yr olds, and I'm sure i'm forgetting some things)
A)
I find that this growing protest against any fictional relationship that is not the ideal healthy one that real-life people dream of in of itself indicative of being out of touch with reality, specious, and tedious. As if it is not "healthy", then it doesn't deserve to be fictionalized and distributed to be read.
There is frustration with stories like Romeo and Juliet, Wuthering Heights, and the enemies-to-lovers trope itself...as if the writers of those stories expected you to copy their main characters 1:1 and take their tale as their own personal ideas in the first place. It is a protest that criticizes romance fiction/general fiction for not being 1:1 to what we should go for, or what we are taught to, in reality for the sake of morality teaching, censored. That fiction writing, especially romance, should only show fluff or as little conflict or high stakes between couples as possible because people are not discerning enough to always tell what is abusive behavior and what is grey behavior.
Like with Romeo and Juliet, people think R&J is an endorsement of this sort of relationship or they conflate the relationship with suicide for one that you love bc there's so many iterations and people going "I wish my love was as dedicated as Romeo to Juliet/vice versa" bc it speaks to their desire for passion in romantic relationship. But again, they conflate, they forget, or never knew that this story is really about the pressures put on vulnerable people's who merely wish to have love and peace in their lives but can't bc their families/communities refuse to abandon a cycle of hate or forcing their children to marry or limit their own ways of thinking for the sake of obedience. How the only relationships that matter are those made b/t the couple and not those constructed by ambitious forces who do not care the amount of blood they spill or lives wasted unless it's to gain more power and gain more "glory" in these hierarchial systems. Romeo and Juliet's love (no matter how you feel about it) is meant to be the direct contradiction to the hatred, and their suicides are meant to be seen as tragic bc they could have bene prevented if the adults aroud them got their heads out of their asses. But bc people are going, "oh, those kids are so stupid" all the time, this point is entirely missed!!!
Or rather, I say, people tend to misunderstand the value & appeal of some ships...canon or not.
No people, they write characters for ideas and philosophical concepts. Innovative, new or familiar and already developed, or something in the middle. We also don't read fiction stories to just be educated into copying behaviors, otherwise, we'd read nonfiction. Fiction is for emotional reality, speculative/philosophical thought, and creative thinking skills, again, they are for exploration of taboos, urges, ideologies, historical propaganda, narratology, mythology, some mysteries that run in the back of ones mind but aren't discussed sometimes because we do not know what sort of consequences we'd have if shared for whatever reason, but for some some of these reaaosn include oppressive structures. And emotional realities, set in a world with its own laws and facts as ASoIaF is, are still important to write in to realize what one feels in their everyday life and have others take a peek into that. But it also doesn't always have to be so damn apocalyptic either, because these characters are playthings of emotional reality, narrative, and philosophy which are all examinable. We as readers can/learn to examine or spy on the trajectory and themes of the fiction and leave the rest to the story as we go about your day.
It is related (not the exact same but there is a relation) to giving horror stories to children--stuff like Coraline--things some adults repeatedly wonder today why we/they were exposed to some films or stories. Some things they can should not be for kids: kids love to be scared, too but more than that they can get scared, get thrilled, get sad in a controlled environment while still familiarize themselves with stuff that one may not be able to articulate in just human conversation or is deliberately removed from them. It also promotes empathy in them bc they get familiarized with how people cause each other pain or the depth/process/development of different types of human suffering.
It is related (not the exact same but there is a relation) to giving horror stories to children--stuff like Coraline--things some adults repeatedly wonder today why we/they were exposed to some films or stories. Some things they can should not be for kids: kids love to be scared, too but more than that they can get scared, get thrilled, get sad in a controlled environment while still familiarize themselves with stuff that one may not be able to articulate in just hunan conversation or is deliberately removed from them.
Problem is that they don't grow some reflexes to avoid, say, predatory behavior, which Coraline shows through the Beldam.
And if I hadn't read stuff like Anne Rice's novels--which people make the mistake of thinking Louis was sexually abusive towards Claudia, when it's really that they are getting that sense from how Louis "stole" away her childhood and humanity in his own horror at his immortality (eternal isolation from the beauty of change that is inherently human), at his horror at his never being able to have experience, that access to that beauty then I have more trouble understanding the value of myself and my fellow human and how that can get mucked up by societal exploitation of the fear of death (religious institutions and their teachings). Yes, his relationship with Claudia is almost mirroring that of a pedo, bc like a pedo he "took away" her childhood for his own lack of self control at his not being able to understand the ramifications of being a vampire and the predator of humanity/enemy of God. And he keeps talking about her beauty and seductiveness (her visual and tactile features like coloring and smoothness of skin, her ability to draw in her adult prey to feed on them). with what we know of him being able to suck her blood out of her body and the oral imagery that can psychologically parallel the sexual, it seems an utter troubling of the innocence we credit to children, baptism did that. That's what Rice wanted you to feel and understand, vampirism and forcing eternity into a child is inherently wrong! no matter how much you yourself are trying to reinforce you own existence's meaning by getting close to "beautiful" things and people. Remember that this is exactly how she, just losing a daughter and w acting said child back and definitely feeling the urge to imagine a way she could have her forever while also going through religious trauma herself. But it is not the thing (pedophilia) itself.
B)
Why do you bother to instruct others to not analyze when you yourself refuse to give a good reason why one should not?! When you claim that you are bringing an "analysis" that is so "simple that it must be genius?" Why do you even make a moral/ethical argument ("we would all benefit from recognizing that all these couples are 'toxic'" as if we don't already know that?!) if it is to tell people to not think?! To not name their own ships and analyze the text/context/subtext to understand what is even happening below the surface of "magical dragonriders"? You yourself did it -- how is it an issue when others do? You don't need to like these things, or to ship specifically how others ship. Just consider why and how shipping and how the "factionalism" in this fandom happens for each ship before you go barreling over telling people that they are amoral for not thinking exactly like you.
If you want to ship a couple just based on the feeling or understanding of what would be good for people's psyche in real life...that they would have both a happy, satisfactory and safe life together in real life based on your own personal preferences or the already agreed upon rules for a healthy relationship....that's fine.
But I, as a Daemyra and Jonerys shipper (these two always depend on the story where Jon and Dameon are politically subservient to these women, not even "equals": Jonerys specifically only if Jon is not her co-ruler not a situation where she is his Queen Consort. He should only be her consort if he becomes her husband and she out ranks him bc as brideoffires on Twitter pointed out, we see that a male partner is highly dangerous for Dany, Jon being the worst for his lineage), argue that the healthier and happier relationships are already RhaenyraxDaemon and JonxDany because of their respective circumstances, cultural/sociopolitical contexts -- their world and personal backgrounds. I not only look at what people say is "healthiest", I want to consider what the people themselves want in a partner, and let's be for real, Rhaenyra's desired partner was Daemon, not HArwin. She loved Harwin, that's for sure. But she wanted Daemon and part of it was for the assurance that he could protect her. (Jonerys is merely for the idea, even though I feel this is ship is more crackish with each passing day). And I do not judge every single piece of fantasy, romance, or romance part of a story by how well it conforms to that image of the realistic, healthy relationship. That's not what I and other shippers go for, including some of those who ship Rhaenyra with Harwin, etc., (since even Harwin is not the ideal modern choice for a woman he little started sleeping with when she was 19 (show) or 17 (book) while being not that far from either Daemon or Criston).
If you are going to use "incest!" and the misapplied "grooming!"/"pedophilia!" arguments to just conclude that every single relationship of ASoIaF is "toxic" (and nothing else) and thus we shouldn't care about who survives or wins or how.....then you also say we should ignore particular aspects of how in spite of the incest, some characters found ways to actually build good enough trust and bonds and when they didn't it wasn't bc of incest but bc of gender political imbalances and sexism (Jaehaerys and Alysanne) and not care about the sociopolitical events, ramifications, and philosophical questioning about identity, sexuality, power, gender, etc. that does go on in ASoIaF. Again, you're saying I/we should not think, that nothing matters at all in this universe, nothing matters. But then, those very things put into question makes this series! It seems like you're saying that the Dance doesn't matter at all...but then why are you here, watching the show and/or reading the books if you did not think the Dance mattered in some way?
And not every shipper ships what they want in real life for every story they create ships for. Ships are made for how well it appeals, and the appeal exists from how/what subtexts one interpreted from the text. Sometimes the conclusions they make are just wrong, other times not very informed or fair. In thise instances, where they et certain lore facts or characterizations completely wrong, fine, criticsims may be even necessary. Other times it's colored by or processing their own traumas, or it's about what shaped the possible/canon relationship that actually inspires the shipping, in which case, I don't think it's worth it to criticize their preference unless it leans into complete delusion that misrepresents the character/story and/or bigotry. The ship shipped is alluring, charismatic, enchanting, and/or engaging and tickling for one reason or the another.
You may argue that realistically, uncles and nieces can't be in healthy relationships -- of which there's no point to this argument in-universe as a serious criticism because this is a series where literal magic-blooded, dragon-riding people marry siblings, uncles, nieces, aunts, nephews in order to maintain that power within their respective bloodlines or that Daemon is a one-dimensional evil, evil person, no cap (he's violent but not crazy evil), and we all already know that obviously this sort of shit shouldn't happen. But these characters are contained within a world they must navigate, and of all the options that Rhaenyra had, Daemon wasn't so bad as us to say he was her doom. Once again, he's been the most loyal to her, which is what she needed.
In other words, Watsonian versus Doylist.
C)
We saw:
Rhaenys and Aegon I -- no known quarrels
Jaehaerys I and Alysanne (pre-Quarrels. It was rather Jaehaerys' misogyny and Alysanne's need to empower herself but also feeling the need to conform in some ways that broke them up but if you are in the habit of not looking past the incest, you wouldn't likely understand that and how it came to be that way with them)
Rhaena and Aegon the Uncrowned -- reasonably harmonious
Jaehaerys II and Shaera [Aegon V's kids] -- no known major quarrels
so we can't even argue that in-unverse, these couples went through their traumas just or only because of incest specifically. Aegon IV-Naerys and Aerys II and Rhaella: these couples' problems were feudal/monarchial/patriarchal problems of the man having too much power over his wife/subject. and going by how the Starks ruled for nigh 6,000-8,000 years....feudalism in some form in this world is going to be here for long after even Dany dies.
So we focus on the revolutions and changes that Dany and Rhaenyra's reigns could have or would have brought for this system.
Back to the Targs, they and Valyrian dragonlords are one only a step ahead of the Westerosi lords, who the Faith allowed, can, and often married their first cousins. As Tywin Lannister did. Yet I have heard/seen nothing about how Westerosi marry their cousins and often. One of Sansa's arranged marriage options was with a Arryn/Vale first cousin.
The prime reason why sibling-marriage is considered taboo amongst Westersoi is because the Faith of the Seven rules that the gods say it so. That's it. There is an absence of logic where some Targ anti claim there is when it comes to why Andal Westerosi reason why incest is bad but still do cousin marriages.
There are even two uncle-niece marriages in the Stark family: "in the north, Serena Stark had been wed to her half-uncle, Edric, while her sister Sansa Stark had been wed to her half-uncle Jonnel Stark (AWoIaF; "Incest in the Seven Kingdoms")". One of these marriages produced children, and neither were ever ruled as sinful by the Faith, nor are the Starks ruled as being all seeds of "abomination".
So.... something is going on here that is more than just "it's incest!" These kinds of questions, not "is this my idea of healthy", are the ones that actually give you answers to how people think, how much does culture influences and where, train you to practice empathy, etc.
D)
It is also Westerosi/medieval/ancient history and general practice to marry what we Western moderns see now as older children (15-17-year-olds) to other teens adults. Real European societies (one of them Westeros was adopted from) still preferred marrying at least 15-16 year olds minimum out of fear of messing with their humors and the girls' physical safety--still delaying consummation.
[Removal of past statement about GRRM and tone for age-gap relationships in story, he has many large-age gaps in the more romantically-told relationships of ASoIaF]
Westerosi custom has the age of majority of 16, but still, both genders can marry or get betrothed way before their 18th nameday. And girls who had their first period were considered safer to bed. It's considered "perverse" to bed a girl who hasn't had her period yet. The incongruence of GRRM's habit of featuring relationships (or suggested intimacies) b/t people w/large age gaps and real life medieval attitudes and practices regarding marriage is a relevant topic, but to claim that basically none of these people felt love or cared about their partners and ignoring how they interact in-text that proves otherwise is fallacious and dumb.
These are screenshots to the link about maidens and the Westerosi age of majority:
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
That means that from even younger ages, both Westerosi girls and boys understood that they might inherit adult responsibilities and political power, as well as get to be married or betrothed younger than what we'd like them to. And we can expect that since the entire world is modeled after ancient/medieval cultures the people we call teens also experienced this. And even 15-year-old nobles understand that they will be arranged to marry and have sex with (to reproduce) whomever their authority figure chooses, for that's the practice. Because 15-year olds can and do sometimes become lords and ladies with the power to order armies. Fifteen-year-old boys have been trained to use the sword and other military weapons (ahem, Daemon became a knight at 16, Aemond trained under Criston since he was 10, Jon was 14 in the beginning of the ASoIaF books and became Lord Commander around 16-17, etc.).
To call them all automatic forever victims-from-child-brides, etc. is to completely erase/the/does:
Removal of past points about people dying earlier being the main reason for earlier marriages, it's actually more complicated than that, which I simplified in second point below.
ignores that even medieval nobles in real life and in Westeros do try not to marry their kids too young for the girl's safety -- with the first also believing that to have sex too young would deplete your humors (that they themselves did express real care towards their children)
ignores, reduces/makes less significant/important/thematic how Rhaenyra and Dany, for example, actually gain back autonomy by being with Daemon, Harwin, Daario Noharis (Not the HotD, Fire and Blood/canon. They show how fucked that messaging up in relation to how it sets up a cultural presence against the female chastity model of this society by making her the possible aggressor towards Criston....what happens between them also cannot be made 1:1 to a modern capitalist boss-employee relationship).
And you end up dismissing, even not understanding, the bigger stuff of this series, taking for granted how power is imbalanced and different from how it would be in the real, present-day worlds. Like how some people claim Dany abuses Irri when that is far from true; even going so far as to claim this proves she will go mad like in the show...another way to demand her progress and character and misinterpret all the Azor Ahai symbolism tied to her. Misogyny.
If you wanted relationships with absolutely no age gaps, teens marrying each other or adults and uncomplicated fluff and that's it...I'm sorry to let you know that you stumbled onto the wrong place, anon. Even if GRRM decreased the number of prominent age gap relationships, there would have to be one or two within the Targ line because the truth is also that real medieval peoples did have age gap marriage that were early-consummated and a few 12-year olds getting married and having that marriage consummated, even if it was uncommon and frowned on. "Uncommon' reveals that it still happened and that were was enough room for it to happen.
END
Don't pretend as if none of these relationships somehow got you to buy in and be emotionally involved!!!!
I've asked this before: not that there is no such thing as a relationship being unhealthy, but when it becomes about shipping=promoting or always saying this is the exact sort of relationship, 1-1, that people should have in real life, what does "toxic" even mean anymore?
What is this such a catch-all term as if it perfectly encapsulates "evil"? We throw that word around as if people know exactly what you mean 100% of the time in a specific case whenever spoken when that's far from the truth or even truth-seeking. What are you specifically talking about when you say RhaenyraxDaemon or AemondxHelaena are toxic? These are all very different people and GRRM never stays with such black-white thinking.
Politics is the activities associated with making decisions in groups, or other forms of power relations among individuals, such as the distribution of resources or status. Shipping has a political interest or consciousness. ASoiaF is politics and magic and exploration of social relations as well as psychological development, which doesn't always mean that we need to "slove" bad relationships. Sometimes it's fun to indulge. Shipping can indicate what the person thinks of what should and should not be prioritized, but is not automatically an indication of moral success or failure because the characters are not JUST models of morality....they are explorations of humanity and psychology. If you cannot reason that a problematic ship should not happen in real life, you need better critical thinking skills instead of censoring people and stories that serve to make people aware.
You are basically saying people who read speculative politics should not speculate.....you've lost the battle anon. Shipping is more about liking the story or one or a few particular aspects of the ship (created by the specific circumstances that made this ship) than its canonical reality or its "healthiness" because of the implied possibilities that one speculates from it. Why would I shut all that creative thinking down for the "healthiness" of people who don't even exist, for patting myself on the back for liking the "appropriate" relationship that is closest to the real life one real people should have?! I don't need that badge.

Summary: Athena Cykes has a problem. For years, she built her life around rescuing the man who had saved her, Simon Blackquill. She'd been imagining a fairytale ending. A kiss. A ride into the sunset. But real life isn't as simple as a dream. Athena got her kiss, but there was no ending– there was a complication. Bobby Fulbright was suddenly back in Simon's life in an unexpected twist of fate, and it turned out that he and Simon had been together for a whole year. Athena gave them her blessing, she was happy for them. But now she feels like an outsider.
Things aren't all sunshine and roses for Simon and Bobby either. Simon had spent the past year living like it was going to be his last year on earth– because it was. But now he is still alive, and there are questions unasked that demand answers. Just what is his relationship with the detective going to be going forward? And what complications of his own does Bobby Fulbright have up his sleeve?
Not to mention that there are two more members of the Phantom Organization who've been captured that Simon now needs to prosecute, and Athena must defend. Love and chaos in LA. In justice we trust– but who understands the mechanics of emotion?
Important author's note under the cut:
So. This is the sequel to In Justice We Trust.
I already know that some of you are going to be disappointed, confused, or even potentially angry. To those of you who are, I am genuinely sorry. Please close this fic now, and pretend that it does not exist. You can consider that "In Justice We Trust" is canon, and that this fic is fanfiction of it. It's not real and it can't hurt you.
Please let "In Justice We Trust" stand on its own, and forget about this fic.
To those of you who are wondering why– why include Athena in this relationship? Why not just let their relationship stand as friends? All I can tell you is that 'the heart wants what the heart wants'. If you're interested in a detailed explanation of my feelings about romantic relationships and found family, you can read about it on my blog.
In Justice We Trust started off as a one-shot. I did not expect it to be popular. I did not expect the wonderful, amazing, overwhelming reaction to it that I got. I didn't expect to base a whole longfic on a single fragment of a moment. I am polyamorous, and a poly shipper at heart. That's just who I am. IJWT grew in the telling, and I will admit I pruned it, like a bonsai, as it grew, to keep it in line with the expectations of others. I kept Athena's romantic feelings out of the story so that more people could enjoy it.
I am not expecting this fic to be popular.
But those of you who have not yet clicked back, or even blocked or muted me on AO3-- I am asking you to come on a journey with me. A journey of romance, and twisted feelings. A journey of people who were children no one understood. A journey of people who might grow to understand each other, despite all the things that would keep them apart.
I am asking you to let me tell you The Mechanics of Emotion.

I disagree with this anon. I mean, yes Twitter became so toxic but it's always been like that. I think buddie shippers felt betrayed because they have been waiting for years for this ship to happen only to be crushed with a new romantic partner for one of them. Like please, think in another ship you have and how suddenly they give one of them another partner and everyone is seeing this new couple as the best of the best and forgetting the original ship. The ship that made possible the new ship. Because the buddie shippers fought to be heard when they said they saw buck as bi. I don't think tevan was possible without the buddie shippers behind!
On the other hand, of course the buddie shippers feel frightening because Tim, the producers, the ABC can decide now that bi buck is enough and they don't need to confirm Eddie gay/queer. And honestly, I think buddie shippers are on board for the queer representation but I also feel like this situation is like they are telling us that we need to settle down with Tommy because we don't deserve more, because that's all we can have. One more confirmed queer character. And that's it. Now they aren't queerbaiting, didn't they? If we want more we're crazy and greedy. Like, you know, you should be thankful. If we're talking about a heterosexual romance, no one would question this. Like the triangles love stories has always existed, but now this is a queer one it is a problem! Like, because this is a queer story we can't complain about it. We can't say we don't like it because then we don't want representation. We're ungrateful.
And I appreciate Oliver, he knows so well this show and the characters, but he's not queer. I think his thought about being a bad rep for us to buck being in love with his friend after he came as queer is not solid at all. So many of us become aware that we're queer because we have a crush on one of our friends. It's not rare. And definitely happens. Like, it's the queer experience.
They said they wanted to do it right... Well they had six seasons to do it. But they didn't. I really want to know how this is going to unfold. The view numbers increased a lot and they know that it wasn't just for Bucktommy, even the new sites know that, everyone asks for buddie . At some point they have to say right in our faces if this is going to happen or not. Oliver understands that but ABC will? Will have to pass six more years, six more seasons of waiting?
I don't think anyone is trying to write some narrative on the characters or story. It was there, buddie didn't become something on the ashes of anything. So that's why people want the pair to become canon.
Sorry for the rant but... I need to say it
Thanks anon for the rant. You made some great points.

Dead x men spoilers: Hank x Cecilia crumbs I feel so alive
"Cecilia . . . I should - I should call her. I haven't talked to her in, oh, years."
Tumblr media
"Where does all the time go, my friend? It feels as though it was just last year we were . . . and I was . . . ah."
Tumblr media
". . . Ah, that's right. How silly of me. I almost forgot. That's where all the time went. I broke it all."
Tumblr media
" - But enough being maudlin. I really should call Cecilia, see how she's doing. Perhaps she'll want to go out for dinner, see a show. That'd be nice. Really, quite nice . . ."
Tumblr media
So, Dead X-Men #3 - and you weren't kidding, these are crumbs.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But. I can't lie, I love seeing what seems to be cat Hank again - I feel like such a hipster sometimes, saying that's my favourite version of him, but it's how I feel - and it's nice to see Foxe remember that Hank is a protective and gentle soul at heart.
Granted, I forget the specifics of Moira's first life, so god knows what happened in that timeline and how it might've affected Hank here, but he looks like a soft boy.
Also, you've just sent me down a rabbit hole, because I knew Hank and Cecilia were a thing, and I was very much in favour because Cecilia is fucking awesome, but I only really knew about the 90s stuff and the occasional hint afterwards!
I was not prepared to find out that Marjorie Liu is a massive Hank/Cecilia shipper and kept finding reasons to call back to it and push them together.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
NYX: No Way Home, issue #4, 2008. Bonus points for saying she fucking hates Trish Tilby, and I can only imagine why.
Tumblr media
X-23, vol. 3, #13. I have to say, this is one of the fucking single cutest pictures of Hank I've ever seen - Noto draws him with such a wonderful softness and cuddliness to his face, and I adore how happy Cecilia looks in the picture. You really get a sense of warmth from the picture.
Also . . . no less than two pictures in the home, huh, Cece?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Astonishing X-Men #53. Honestly, Liu writes a lovely Hank, and I adore how she handles the softness and warmth that clearly exists between these two?
Hank's historically always been something of a ladies man, but I've never gotten the impression that he ever left his exes on bad terms unless they put him in that position (hello, Trish), and the fact that he and Cecilia have that certain intimacy that speaks to love that could or couldn't slide back into romance is.
It's nice and mature and I like it a lot. And maturity isn't often something I associate with comics, or the X-Men, tbh.
Tumblr media
Astonishing X-Men #51.
Finishing each other's sentences? Fond little glances? Mhm-hmm. Uh-huh. Honestly, now I'm a little offended on Cecilia's behalf that she had those token appearances on X-Force and didn't have a stronger reaction to what she saw in that Beast, because the Cecilia I'm seeing here absolutely would not have stood for it, least of all from someone she clearly still holds a torch for.
And, of course, I'd be remiss not to talk about how Claremont saw the two.
Tumblr media
Honestly, if we have heroic Hank back now and with the X-Men, who knows, maybe there's a chance. Just need to get Marjorie Liu or another shipper back on deck. :P

dear smut4smut author 🔥
Thank you in advance for writing for me! I’m very easy to please as a reader and love being surprised, so I hope you can write something you like.
There were so many wonderful tags in this exchange and I signed up literally 30 seconds before the bell rang, so I may have missed adding some of my always-loved kinks to every request, but I do always love them! You can also assume "and similar tags" are okay for the requested tags. This tumblr has anon asks open if you want to tease or clarify!
I'm usually a "they are/could be really really in love (even if they don't know it yet at the time of the fic)" kind of shipper, but I made a note in the M*A*S*H section where that's kind of different!
--
💕 I love: canon divergence | complications (e.g. emotional baggage, working together while in a relationship, traumas inflicted by canon) | episode-related fics | fix-its | friends to lovers | happy/hopeful endings | hurt/comfort | “it’s just casual” to lovers | other canon characters included in the fic | pining | polyamory dynamics | 5-times | all ratings are welcome.
🔥 Kinks enjoyed: aliens made them do it (or local canon equivalent) | blow jobs | body worship (especially related to body changes like aging, scars, weight gain, etc) | edging | hand jobs | masturbation | soft dom/sub (bondage and praise yes; pain and shame no; bedroom dynamic not 24/7 lifestyle) | watching/voyeurism | sweet I-love-you sex works for me too!!
⛔️ DNWs: alternate-setting AUs* | bashing of other characters or past canon relationships | crossovers (except between series in the same universe, like star trek) | hurt no comfort | non-canon nicknames | non-sexual bodily fluids in sex scenes | permanent character death | spelling out accents (for human characters) | unplanned pregnancy unless noted | zombies or blood-sucking vampires (other canon-typical aliens and cryptids are ok!).
*AU clarification: I don’t want alternate-setting (coffee-shop, law office, regency, etc) AUs, but I LOVE what-if canon divergence AUs of all sizes: fix-its, what if X episode ended differently, what if Y foundational thing didn't happen (e.g. “what if Agent Scully wasn’t assigned to debunk the X Files in the pilot episode, but she and Mulder met another way”), as long as they are still the same characters in the same canon universe.
--
🌃 Stargate Atlantis 🌃 (John Sheppard/Elizabeth Weir, Rodney McKay/John Sheppard/Elizabeth Weir)
My home-field ship is Sheppard/Weir, and I love them in every weather! I have also read some great ot3 fics and there really aren't enough of them to meet all the potential. John and Rodney both love her so so much in canon and are people who really don't know how to process or express that, and it makes me want to see how they figure it out... or make it messier. If you're writing that ot3, it's important to me that Elizabeth be a full and loved participant in the dynamic (and not just a guest or a ghost in a McShep fic).
In any case, I really want Elizabeth to be alive! Equally fine with fics set in seasons 1-3, AUs where Elizabeth is rescued or comes back another way, or fics where "that just didn't happen." I'm fine with "came back wrong" or suffering along the way as long as at her core she's Elizabeth and it ends in a hopeful or happy way.

I love this ship when they’re still themselves, but now with some understandable existential angst and alienation from both their past and new lives. I love exploring the tension between what they have lost and this new life they have, and the challenges of navigating a relationship when they spent so long NOT being in a relationship. This couple is the platonic ideal of “toxic ship that needs to be together monogamously forever as a quarantine measure so nobody else ever has to be part of this.” I love them. They’re the worst. They have incredible sex and want each other so bad it makes them look stupid. I NEED them to annoy each other til death do they part. I will happily read smut, fluff, angst, unhealthy coping mechanisms, hate-sex-but-secretly-I-love-you-sex, canon-like comedy disaster shenanigans, even an unlikely-fantasy version of them where they go an entire loving fic without torturing each other because they've figured things out feeds my heart.

⛑ M*A*S*H ⛑
I'm brand new to this fandom! As of writing this, I have watched through season 4 and it is rewiring my brain daily. They're all trapped together and so they love each other and hate each other and admire and need and pity and sometimes they just like each other. Everyone is horny and everyone's a little pathetic. They're all obsessed with each other in one way or another and I'm obsessed with them!!
I'm always happy to read romantic love, but in this case, these clowns are so situationally codependent that I think "flawed human people who need something in a hard situation and get some of it from each other through sex (and learn something about themselves or each other/maybe grow closer in some way through that)" rings true! (This is not a request to not do romance though if that's what rings true for you.)
About the ships:
I am obsessed with Frank and Margaret's dysfunctional relationship, I have spent waaaay too many hours thinking about What's Wrong With Them. They are so horny it's doing them psychological damage (and doing psychological damage to everyone else in the 4077 who has to think about it). You know they fuck so well.
Hawkeye/Trapper/Margaret has the potential to be really hot or kind of silly or even... surprisingly sweet. I answered an ask about it recently here!! Either this is a case of her calling their bluff because she's fed up, a circumstantial case of irrepressibly horny people huddling for warmth, or maybe they're really taking care of each other when they need it.
Trapper/Margaret: I soooooo wanted them to hook up [and probably regret it] [but could they stop at just once??]. I mean she's hot for him and he's got a lot of charged energy around her and they'd both really like to put each other in their place... 🔥
Hawkeye/Trapper: They are together in all kinds of weather! They are besties, the automatic plus-one for any shenanigan, they're so open with each other, they're so physically affectionate, they'd do anything for each other... (I also answered an ask about them.)
I just realized I didn't click on Hawkeye/Margaret and now it looks like I specifically excluded them.
Hawkeye/Trapper/Margaret/Frank: This one is kind of a writing dare tbh, but the comedy doubles act in every scene with these four makes me curious how it could happen. Couple swap? Both couples having sex in the same place but expressly NOT paying attention to each other (jk unless...)? Is this what will finally get them out of the time loop????

🛸 The X-Files 🛸 (Doggett/Reyes, Doggett/Reyes/Scully, Mulder/Scully/Doggett/Reyes)
Doggett/Reyes is a lifelong ship for me, and I love the season 9 dynamics between Doggett, Reyes, and Scully – how they work together professionally, their developing friendships and trust, and their romantic attractions. Some of the draw of an ot4 with all the agents is the idea that their affections for everyone in the group are not equal and not the same, so that makes for a fun dynamic. How does it happen? How do they not just end up killing each other?

Why do people bash Ohcaco and Himiko's ARC? (Also how does this help BKDK?)
People have been bashing the last few chapters, and I wanted to go over some dumb hate for this Himiko\Ohcao arc,and something else. But,first, spoilers for chapter 393,second,the only version I have access to is some random fan translation so some things might be worded differently in official translations, and lastly Horikoshi art bash. Like,c'mon the man has been sick for like the tenth hundred time, and considering this fact, this:
Tumblr media
should not be considered "The quality is why MHA fell off" like bitch, are we reading the same manga??
Now on to the main thing about this post (My first one :) )
The way people are bashing the arc for Ohcaco and Himiko is just...sad. Like, they needed something to complain about and this was it. I kept and keep seeing comments about how
"Himiko killed people why the hell are we supposed to forgive her when the only problem was a bad childhood?" And. ..okay,uh,stupid question. Because the whole point of MHA is "forgiveness and love" so saying that Himiko shouldn't be forgiven goes against the show's premise. And Ochaco even says she can't ignore the fact Himiko has killed people but she deserves a second chance because society didn't give her one. True. (Also isn't Deku doing the same thing with Shiggy? But I don't remember anyone complaining, odd)
Also DKBK\BKDK shipers, I think we can be safe to say it will be cannon because of this.
Tumblr media
it showed Deku a couple times when she was speaking so I think we can be safe to say with this line, she's also talking to Deku. Let me explain it you will. (Don't worry guys, this isn't just a DKBK section I am gonna talk a lot about Ochaco's character development)
I and a few others had believe Ochaco's crush was actually her admiring Deku then becoming increasingly jealous of him. And the only reason she even for a moment consider it was a crush was 'cuz of Mina. (Dekuchan on Twitter YouTube and even Tumblr has made a couple things about this,if you're interested in a more thoroughly explained version and some additional points go check them out)
But this makes sense and if you're a DKBK\BKDK shipper it probably made a lot of sense because everything's coming full circle.
When Ochaco has her talk about "Romance" with Himiko it is most likely going to be her explaining what her and Himiko felt about Deku wasn't love. It was jealousy. Because,uh,if Ochaco said she loved Deku then that would mean Himiko did. And,well, does Himiko? No. Because Himiko said it herself what Ochaco feels for Deku is the same thing she does. And,well, that wasn't love.
That was my first post...hoped you liked it...And shit. I forgot a super important part, forgive me. Anyways, let's excuse my dumbass. I completely didn't cover,Ocaco's promise it Himiko talks with her.
Tumblr media
She promises Himiko she can have her blood for, life. Oh,how did I forget to even mention this. I feel like that equates to a marriage proposal???? (Kinda joking but like?) But,this makes me also defend any forgiveness Ohcaco's wanting to give. Because it wasn't just an awful childhood for Himiko,it was also her quirk. And if Himiko's quirk needed blood to work, and then she had a natural need\want for it,her parents could have taken her to a blood bank of something? But that's what I feel makes Himiko and the others deserve a second chance (Don't even @ me about "murder" because duh, they might face some punishment for that, but we forgave Endeavour ? And he faced zero clap back for child abuse, and because of the abuse he made a murder,so in a way,Endeavour murdered people and faced zero punishment but people being upset with him sooo) They deserve forgiveness because,at least in Deku's case, the heros could had ended up like the villains, but because one thing went different Deku's a hero. (Not saying he would have been a villain, but he in his own words hard said Mr.Smily and Shigarki were like him) But because Himiko's parents didn't even TRY do help, she suppressed herself and became a villain. Oh,also, remember when people thought Bakugo had a sad backstory and that would explain why he was an ass? Yeah, like, they say we can't forgive people when they have a sad past, but they need a sad past to have negative actions.
Like,I know most the people saying Bakugo had a sad\bad past was because it's an anime,so sad backstories just makes sense. But if we can only make sense of negative actions need to have a sad backstory, then how do we not forgive? Like,AFO doesn't have a sad backstory but he's the worst of them all. So that's why Himiko and Dabi+ the others, need forgiveness, because they never got a chance until they met the heros.
And,yeah, that's actually it. Kinda forgot a pretty important part lol. And I must mention this one comment I saw,and I like hope they were being sarcastic and making fun of people but...I just can't tell with people anymore.
The comment went like this:
"Talk talk talk talk talk talk talk. No real action. Words words words words words. Peace and love, better for better. How about just give us what we readers really want these days? Sex, violence, nipples, lovely rears? I’m a bassman myself." Like ,bro,we are not reading the same manga if that's what you've been hoping for in mha...Like what? Please tell me this was a joke...Like I can't comprehend someone being this stupid and rude to a manga that is all about peace and love, like if you don't like that why are you here??

Sylki shippers have been extra grating lately. Since season 1, they've really been wanting Loki and Sylvie to have a "happy ending" and become benevolent protectors of the multiverse against Kang together. Loki I could see doing that, sure, the way things have been going this season, that's a burden - one worthy of a god - he'd willingly bear to save lives. But Sylvie?
"Season 2 is like the two of them having to work through that, which I think you see in that one scene in Episode 4 where they have that conversation about, "We are gods." There's something to that, about Loki really embracing that, and there's something sad about the fact that Sylvie, in a way, needs to be reminded of that. It's a life she hasn't really gotten to live." - Kevin Wright, Loki Producer
Sylvie was born the Goddess of Mischief, but the TVA took her when she was just a kid. She didn't grow up living the life of a god, learning what it means to be one. She forgets she is one. Hell, does she even want to be one? She seemed happy in the mundane life she made for herself, and was very upset with Loki for showing up and "ruining" it. She finally has a life of her own choosing, one where she can just live. Her suddenly deciding in the final two episodes that she doesn't care about that and leaving it all behind to go "rule beside" Loki as gods is what really makes her happy would be rushed as hell. It would be the romance taking priority over the character we've been seeing this season.
Reading your ask, I wonder: Is Sylvie better written this season?
If I'm being cynical and thinking of S1, I fear they might show Loki as a proud narcissist who wants to be a god and is obsessed with power, whereas Sylvie is so down to earth and such a good girl that she rejects her goddess status and prefers to go hang out with the common folk.
With that said, if it's done well, it could be pretty interesting for both of them. That's what this series should be about: a show where the Lokis accept themselves and find their own path. That would require they also acknowledge that they're Jotuns but I have no hope in that regard (hey, if I'm wrong, I'll gladly apologize!).
I'm not a big fan of them replacing HWR though. I suppose it depends on how they do it, but to me it makes it seem like they would be giving up their lives in order to dedicate themselves to others and that's not the place I want to see a scapegoat in. I get it can be seen as them being good and protecting others, etc but... can't Loki just have a life of his own for once?
Anyway, I agree with you about Sylvie. She said it herself she barely remembered Asgard and she was only a kid when she was taken. For her to end the series taking on the role of a full-fledged goddess would be weird. It would be interesting though if the discussion was about that god status being something you're born with or something you choose?
I get why the shippers might be mad but Sylvie needs to be fleshed out, she has a lot of potential. Reducing her to a love interest just so that they can have a romance would be a huge mistake.

This question was inspired by a gwynriel reblog (although I do know you reblog elriel stuff too so I’m assuming you like both) but what are some book ships that you have that you wished were canon/wish will be canon for ongoing series?
Hi there, nonnie! Thanks for the ask. :D
I do like both Gwynriel and Elriel. And Elucien, too. (I even shipped Mor and Azriel back in the day, when the series was still in its infancy.) I'm a walking contradiction, what can I say? I think you'll find that I'm pretty open and flexible when it comes to ships/shipping. I am an unapologetic multi-shipper, so all that I really require is intriguing characters and imagination. 🙃
As for your question, I think one of the ships I most want to be canon is Jaime and Brienne from ASOIAF. If GRRM ever finishes and publishes TWOW (I've been waiting impatiently for YEARS!!!), I am hoping that comes to fruition. 🤞🏻I would love for some canon Gendry/Arya as well.
I was also hoping for a Grayson/Avery endgame in The Inheritance Games trilogy by Jennifer Lynn Barnes. I mean, I did enjoy Avery/Jameson as well - they had a playfulness that was pleasing - but Avery/Grayson had a convoluted intensity that I thought was entrancing and deserved more development. (There is a book 4 coming, though. So who knows what'll happen.)
There's also The Ballad of Never After trilogy by Stephanie Garber. Evangeline and Jacks have such a heady dynamic, and given the cliffhanger at the end of book two, I'm so curious to see if/how they'll end up together.
In the Grisha trilogy, I was and am an Alarkling/Darklina girlie. I loved how they were opposite sides of the same coin and I'll never not be disappointed by how that series ended. It's that light/darkness trope. I'm a sucker for opposites attract, too. And their chemistry was *chef's kiss* I never warmed to Mal and Alina for various reasons, even though I typically eat up friends to lovers dynamics. I did enjoy Nikolai and Alina, though!
In If We Were Villians, which is a standalone, I was genuinely torn between Oliver/Meredith and James/Oliver. I still can't decide.
Oooh, another one is the HP series. I get on board with canon Romione, but I always liked the idea of Harry and Hermione more. They had a really healthy and supportive dynamic and I think that would have parlayed well into romance. Also, I totally crack ship the hell out of Dramione.
I'm sure there are others I'm forgetting but these are the ones that jumped to the forefront of my mind.
