A little love letter to Din Djarin writers... 🤍

I love that some of you write him as soft and gentle while others focus on the darker, harsher parts of his personality. I love that he can be both a quiet, kind man caring for his child or an intimidating, terrifying bounty hunter who is a lean, mean killing machine... depending on what the fic warrants.

I love how you write him with other characters from The Mandalorian or even with those who would never cross paths with him in canon, from Star Wars or elsewhere. I love how you write him interacting with yourselves and us, and some of you even create your own original characters to exist a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away alongside him.

I love that some of you ship him with that one other special person, while others recognise how desirable he is and ship alllllll the ships. Not forgetting those of you which are here for none of those ships and/or even headcanon him as ace. I love that any of those options allow you to explore your own identities and sexualities through him.

I love that you can write the most tooth-rotting fluff or filthiest smut, and all of those things in between. Whether it's for general audiences or explicit and strictly 18+ ... all of your fics have an audience and someone out there who appreciates your writing.

I love how differently you can interpret him, but there are also so many common themes and tropes running through your writing. I love that there is room for all of your Dins here.

I love that he means so much to you and that all of us here hold him in our hearts a little bit. I love that we can all watch the same episodes and come to entirely different conclusions about him. I love how much we love him.

Getting to be a part of this wonderful community and interact with so many people who love the space tin can man as much as I do has truly been one of the best things that happened to me recently. I'm so glad I made this little blog... It reminded me just how good fandom can be. I am blown away by the number of talented people here!

Hey, I get I've been raving about Astarion a lot but, like, are there ACTUALLY people out here who hate Gale and are calling him an incel? Is this a thing? Thank God I apparently curate well bc holy fucking shit I would be having heart palpitations DAILY out of SHEER ANGER.

So, like, we're always going to make fun of our faves and whatnot bc lbr "bro, you were banging Mystra and fucked up that bad?" THOUGH TO BE FAIR, if you're a wizard it isn't that hard to bang Mystra. It's kind of her thing. P sure her banging Elminster as many times as she has is the main reason he's still kicking and out being the Faerûnian Gandalf that he is in-game. Mystra's bodycount aside (especially since that has ZERO bearing on ANYTHING least of all her portfolio and purpose), like, Gale is a very intelligent man. He is also what we would consider as an objectively good person. Save the kids, help the tieflings, be kind and compassionate to those the average "good" aligned folks would consider "worthy" and yeah. He is literally the Alistair Theirin of BG3 if you Fusion Danced him together with Awakening Anders.

That being said, he is also very deeply flawed in that he KNOWS he is brilliant and in that brilliance, knowing his own talent, he thinks he knows better than even his own goddess BUT-! But, but, but, he is mortal, is young enough and in an age to not be able to wrack up the accomplishments of, say, Elminster whom he clearly knows on a fairly personal level so, like anyone who knows they are capable of doing great things, he feels INFERIOR bc he hasn't, in his mind, PROVEN that he is as great as he knows he is. And that's the hubris of mortality.

Objectively, LOGICALLY, he knows that he's more than proven himself capable. Mystra wouldn't have started a relationship with him otherwise, and she never asked him to prove himself. It was his own desperation to prove that he was worthy of her and thinking he knew EVERYTHING that lead to his terrible situation. Is he very clinical and logical about it? Yes. Is he squirrelly about it in the beginning? Very much, yes. Hell, I would be. No one wants to be friends with a literal ticking time bomb and the man is VERY lonely. Hell, that's the name of the game baybee! Baldur's Gate 3: These Bitches Need a Hug; YES EVEN LAE'ZEL, I WILL FIGHT Y'ALL!

Back to Gale, your friendship with him is something he very much treasures and when he starts all his finger wiggling and magic talk he's like any nerd sharing the thing he is most passionate about. He is also the first to admit he fucked up. HOWEVER, that does not (imo) warrant him needing to sacrifice himself all for Mystra's forgiveness, and even Elminster isn't on board with that. And, like, when he talks about Mystra it's never in an accusatory manner towards her. He clearly still loves her, likely always will, but that never negates his love for the PC who chooses to romance him. He is also very much prone to falling into the same pitfall of hubris that got him before and very clearly needs guidance that, yes, Mystra clearly did neglect in giving him. But he never outright blames her, at least he's not in my playthroughs thus far even after having spoken with her in the temple. He's just a sad, lonely nerd and that does not automatically make him an incel; y'all just don't know how to read, listen, or understand nuance. Apparently.

tl;dr

Gale deserves as much love as Astarion but bc he isn't evil "babygirl" material that's "fixable" he's just called an incel when he can be a very genuine friend, but what are those nowadays I guess?

I just have to get this pet peeve off my chest.

Okay so, like, I'm by no means an expert on metal culture, but I have done some research because that's what I do when I'm working on fic involving things I don't know. And even with the little knowledge I had before just from watching a lot of 80s movies, I had these thoughts, and it just got worse after researching. So....

Eddie wouldn't put his hair up in a ponytail or bun every chance he gets! It's not part of the style! Omg, I see this in almost every Steddie fic and it's driving me up a wall, lol. He especially wouldn't put it up on stage, like, what!? No no no no no! The long hair is for headbanging! Like, I can suspend my disbelief if someone is writing Eddie as doing mechanic work, 'cause having long hair doing that stuff is dangerous, but any other time? He wouldn't. Eddie's committed to the metalhead culture/aesthetic, he'd rather sweat like crazy in the summer than look like a poser. Instead, he'd probably use his bandana to wrap around his forehead to keep his bangs out of the way, or he'd wear it like he did in the show--over his hair--if he wants to keep it from getting in his face.

Maybe I'm in the minority for who it bothers, but gahhh! It makes me roll my eyes so hard every time I read it, and I just carefully edit it out in my mind so that it's more in character, lol.

Obviously, people are gonna do what they're gonna do, but yeah. Had to rant a little.

i’ve been watching my friend play p5 royal for a bit now and i’ve decided that it’s the ideal way to play p5 not because of any story changes or what have you, but because you can unlock isanagi-no-ookami (the god final persona from p4) for basically free at any level and then just myriad truths your way through the rest of the game and it’s the funniest thing in the world

#space rambles #persona 5 royal #we realized this on like our third visit to kamoshida’s palace #and this guy literally DECIMATES EVERYTHING he’s doing at least 400-500 damage to every enemy on any hit #and he replenishes all sp in between battles so you can MILK HIM #we were playing for the story anyways but seeing mona be like ‘oh no these guys are tough!’ and then decimating them in one hit #was making us lose it so we just have him forever now #we could only use him once against kamoshida though so we had to fight him normally #however by the time we got to madarame we had enough sp and items to use him 2-3 times in a battle #so we literally fought madarame in under 10 minutes #this is speedrunning at its finest (laziest) #we also have multiple counters running for this run through #right now they’re the for real counter and the someone says ‘i’m gonna kill kamoshida’ counter #we didn’t have one for madarame’s palace so we need to make a new counter for the next one #but yeah p5r has been so fun #my friend who’s playing it has played the whole thing #one of the people who i’m watching with has played through most of p5 but never finished it and also has never played royal #and then me and my other friend are going in basically blind #ryuji’s my favorite btw #this turned into me just ranting about playing games with my friends because it’s fun lol #but yeah play with izanagi it’s SO funny
