The writers dont know how to right Veronica’s character outside of the narrative of Archie vs Hiram (and now Hiram 2.0, Chad) and it shows. Every season Jughead, Betty, Cheryl and Archie get a new storyline but Veronica is stuck in the same loop of fighting with her father, running to Archie (half the time as an act of rebellion) and then becoming close to her father and losing Archie. It’s a cycle we THOUGHT broke after the time jump. Her character deserves depth and development.

The Reason I love Archie Andrews

Archie is actually one of my favourite characters on Riverdale, and I’m going to explain to you why that is. I know you’re not asking, and you might not care - but conversely, I really wish I didn’t have to see Archie hate in the Archie Andrews tag, yet my brain was unfortunately fried a bit today by having to read pure stupidity. Instead of totally whining about it though, I figured I would bring some positive thoughts into the tag and remind all of the like minded Archie fans why he’s great :)

So reasons I love Archie Andrews, in no particular order since I kind of just started writing and never stopped.

1. Archie is not a bad friend.

Archie has never, ever been a bad friend to Betty. Not reciprocating her feelings does not equate to being a bad friend. Archie and Betty grew up in, what I could only assume, was a situation where everyone just expected them to be together when they grew up. Betty always had a crush on Arch, and he might’ve reciprocated those feelings once, but from what we’ve seen, he seems confused about it.

In that moment in episode 13 where he kind of hesitates, this is SO often WRONGLY interpreted as him hitting on her! This is him talking to his friend who he has known his whole life and is comfortable with and comfortable talking to, about something that maybe confused him. Maybe he’s wondering if they made the right decisions? Either way, Betty is like ya I’m happy with Jughead. OBviously, since Archie has had feelings for Veronica since day 1, he is not having second thoughts about his feelings for betty. It genuinely seems like a moment of confusion.

Archie was not a great friend to Jughead the summer before Riverdale began, as we learn. He was caught up in an affair with Grundy that really messed with his head. He’s 15? It was statutory rape. He put Grundy over his friend because that’s what people do when they’re being manipulated. According to the One-Shot, he genuinely forgot about their time together and didn’t mean to totally ditch Jughead. And he couldn’t tell him the truth because he didn’t want to get in trouble. And yeah that was sad and poor judgment but Archie really tried to make it up to Jug multiple times.

He stood up for him against Reggie, the moment he learned about Jughead’s situation, he offered him a place to stay and tried to help his dad out by talking to his own dad about a job.

He consistently supported Jughead throughout this. People keep bringing up the time that he “outed” FP as a serpent at the baby shower. I’m going to give my analysis on this:

1. Jughead actually isn’t the only character on the show with feelings. I’m not sure if you guys knew this? It’s news to me of course because flipping through various posts, you’d think that he is the only character who is allowed emotion. But Archie also has the function of human emotion, and I’m sure that when he, FOR THE FIRST TIME found out that the father of his best friend is the leader of the South Side Serpents, a fact that Jughead himself has known this entire time, he felt a little betrayed. Especailly because he felt as though the serpents had been messing with his dad’s business. It’s perfectly ok for archie to feel this way? 

2. I’ve seen some ridiculous claims that Archie said that to make Jughead seem less worthy to Betty? Thats honestly pretty weird because if Betty and Jughead have this strong,ever lasting, eternal, super healthy relationship, then she wouldn’t give two fucks abotu something like that .

3. Archie and Jughead then got over this bump in their friendship.

Archie is constantly supportive of Jughead and his relationship with Betty. Yeah Archie is a lil surprised to find out about this relationship at first. But to be fair it was pretty out of the blue and random, I’d be surprised too. After the intiial surprise he thought it was great and why wouldn’t he?

People keep also bringing up the fact that “Archie let kegs come into his house for Jughead’s party” oh no, who would think, that Archie can let whatever he wants into his house? I actually don’t think he knew FP would be there. ALSO with your entire school outside your house, are you really stopping a party from happening?

Archie has consistently tried to be the best person he can, always with the best intentions for his friends.

The next argument that I see about why Archie is the worst ever is because he is a “fuckboy.” Please see this post .

Alright. I have a million reasons why I love Archie and this post is way too long already. Basically, he’s a teenager. All of the characters on this show have flaws. All of them. I personally would not make a post highlighting reasons why certain characters are awful (in my opinion) and if they did, I certainly wouldn’t tag them because i respect people who do like them.

Also, if i were to make a post detailing why I dislike a certain character, I wouldn’t make up dumb reasons that didn’t actually happen, and I would try to give as many examples as possible to prove that I’m not looking through some delusional teenage weird lens.

I’ve seen some posts on here saying that it’s disappointing Betty cheated again, but I don’t think that’s an entirely fair sentiment. We don’t actually know the nature of Betty’s relationship with anybody right now, including that other FBI guy. After the shower scene Betty seems like she’s happy to have just had casual sex with Archie and not that she’s interested in anything more, There’s really no need to think that is any different with the other guy either. We saw them kiss like one time, no need to assume Betty is some kind of serial cheater because of that. She’s probably just a young woman having fun in her 20s, let her live!

ok but this whole “archie can’t make up his mind about girls” was literally invented by fandom’s usual lack of emotional nuance

bitch, when couldn’t he make up his mind?? in the pilot when ms. grundy had broken up with him, he rejected betty and kissed veronica?

when he and veronica decided to be just friends and he got back together with ms. grundy?

when that relationship ended again and he moved on to valerie?

when he made it clear he had a girlfriend and was only going out with cheryl as a favour for a friend and his family and she kissed him, which he didn’t reciprocate?

when his relationship with valerie ended and he moved on to veronica?

you can say he swings too fast between relationships and make all the interpretations you want about about overlapping feelings* but canonically we have nothing concrete to go on to say archie has had feelings for two girls at the same time (except maybe ms. grundy vs. veronica in the pilot but the fact that ms. grundy isn’t a girl but an adult woman in a position of power over him should be enough said…)

*for example, i can see people making the interpretation that maybe archie was having second thoughts about betty in the finale despite his explanation to veronica. i won’t go into my interpretation of that bc its just that - an interpretation. we don’t have anything else to go on so thus far “archie can’t make up his mind about girls” has no canon basis. he makes up his mind about girls. you just don’t like that he makes it up so quickly.
