Illegal immigrants are able to buy firearms now.  The illegitimate fake administration made an exception to allow these illegal immigrants to purchase firearms.
Are you beginning to see the writing on the wall? 🤔

The Brazilian media (specially the right-wing & Zionists) are slandering President Lula for speaking FACTS! They're insisting on the narrative that what Lula said is antisemitism, and want him to get impeached.
It was about damn time to someone to say something and I'm glad he did!
Now, Israel decided that President Lula is now a "persona non grata" (someone who isn't welcome in the country) until he apologizes for what he said and Lula said he won't apologize for anything.
I wish his boldness to inspire other countries leaders to do the same, and to USA to stop financing this genocide asap.

My fav thing about TAZ is that any aspect out of context sounds fucking bonkers.
Like, in the balance finale there's a scene in which Garfield (who is very specifically never described visually bc most people imagine him as like. The Lasagna Cat. Who in this universe is the most powerful warlock in the realm and also has a hobby of cloning people, which is great for the one character that got forced into haunting a mannequin) is summoned by an alien spaceship that runs on the power of friendship so he could beat up some flashing balls. In D&D.
And that was just. Such a normal scene in the narrative. No one blinked an eye. I would like to bow down to Griffins clear unmatched talent for making me feel such big emotions over ridiculous shit like a goddamned umbrella or a regular ass pair of jeans or the idea of a taco recipe.
#taz balance#the adventure zone#taz#i have. so many drafts of this post decontexualizing so many different scenes.#merle killing a room of autism creature looking things by asking them to tell the truth which then summons god#also merle retiring from his retirement to run fantasy margaritaville under the title Earl Merle#magnus the mannequin telling taako and merle to find the baby voidfish bc the big voidfish sung at him real hard bc in the century he#just now remembered (bc hes a mannequin not a human boy)#he gifted an alien jellyfish with dozens of shitty wooden ducks. he forgot that century bc his friend fed the jellyfishs baby a book#the gnome version of Teddy Rucksbin turns out to be the universes most competent spaceship pilot. hes also a talented opera singer#a man named Barry Bluejeans is dead and uses his ghost haunting powers to gift the three heroes badges that they cant see#right before theyre shuttled off in a cannonball to save a space lab full of kitschy elevators thats snowing pink tourmaline#barry also uses his ghost powers to hold hands with magnus and make random shapes in midair like a dresser when theyre trapped in a#fantasy version of The Dating Game hosted by ghost Jesse and James Rocket who steal bodyparts if you lose their game.#or like in campaign how a dude who wiped out in the first three seconds of ninja warrior convinces a human wifi router#who owns a bible theme park to take the apparent King of America to the white house on their hovercraft to be trued for treason#after he announced his intent to take over the country in a televised debate with an inuit goddess who is sometimes trapped in the body#of an HR worker all Donald Blake/Thor style#anyways. this show is ridiculous and i love it So Much

boycott fatigue is actually the stupidest fucking thing ever because how in the ever loving fuck are you experiencing “fatigue” from not going to Starbucks. how is not watching rushed cgi on disney+ and not eating a breaded slime nugget at McDonald’s “fatiguing” you. genuinely how fucking dare this even exist as a concept. entire bloodlines, children, newborns are dying slow and bloody and all of these companies are giving Israel the money to do that. they’re using YOUR fucking money to do this. and look, practically every war has been funded out of our pockets by a means we can’t fight around. almost all of the food and drink we have in the states is owned by some large corporation that makes it fucking impossible to not give them money because they are the sole providers. I understand there are some things we can’t boycott because of our own needs. but this isn’t basic needs that we are being asked to boycott. it’s fucking Disney+ and McDonald’s and Starbucks and a whole slew of luxuries that you’re not only capable of living without, but would actually be better off entirely without.
there’s been a lot of talk about how privileged we are to only be witnessing this human rights atrocity through phones or news and being able to get away from it with a button click and that’s entirely real, but the fact that somebody out here just felt soooo inconvenienced by not going to a drive thru for overpriced garbage that they literally coined the phrase “boycott fatigue,” is probably the biggest load of privileged dog shit I’ve seen in the past few days. do you want to know who’s actually experiencing fatigue right now? the millions of displaced families in Gaza without homes anymore. without any clean water to drink because it’s either been poisoned by the Israelis or contaminated with their peoples’ blood. the children without enough food to get by, or without any food at all. the injured and sick and disabled Palestinians who don’t have access to any medical aid for themselves because their hospitals and fuel trucks are being bombed. these people who have absolutely nothing but each other, and not even that in the worst circumstances, who can only keep walking for days on end, hungry and thirsty and in pain and unable to do anything about it. that is real fucking fatigue.
I understand we’re all seeing war crimes and death and atrocities that nobody should ever have to see and yes it’s difficult to process, but the people of Palestine are experiencing these atrocities in real time, every day, every hour. every ten fucking minutes a child dies. They aren’t even asking for help anymore. They’re only asking to be witnessed and remembered and for us to stop going to places that actively fund their deaths and you’re saying you just can’t because you’re exhausted by not going to that place? I know we’re all born and raised in a consumerist hellscape but you seriously need to get a fucking reality check if offering the bare minimum support to a dying people is ‘fatiguing’ to you. Jesus fucking Christ.

I genuinely don't understand how people can see what's going on in Palestine and not side with the Palestinian people. It makes me nauseous everytime I come online, seeing the new atrocities, and then seeing people excusing it/denying it.

Why the FUCK are Southerners under the impression they're even welcomed on the internet ANYMORE????? Sorry but this is genuinely fucking rancid I feel fucking unsafe knowing that my spaces are being invaded by you fucking people. Fucking disgusting that it's 2024 and we can't hold piece of shit racists and Confederate nazis accountable for literal fucking war crimes and slavery anymore.

hey man. whats going on. this is such a weird thing to say to someone else on the internet life would be so beautiful if you stepped outside and talked to a real person for once. btw did you know the south is mostly full of poor people and black people and acting as if being from a place makes a person inherently a bigot is very weird almost as if it's pushing a classist narrative. Thats so wacky lol

matthew has babies in a human au? oh pls expound on those disagreements between dad matt and uncle alfred 👀 did matthew adopt them? or had them in a one night stand and took full custody?
He accidentally knocked Katya up when she was 28 and he was 21. Alfred was about 26 and furious about it because of how young Matt was and not even finished with university. And French Canada with its spectacularly high birthrate historically and Katya's native Ukraine where marriage and children generally happen a bit earlier, Matt decides to finish his degree quickly, marry her and start up that family he always knew he was going to have anyway. Francis approves because honestly the man had a child to have grandchildren after Matt was a bit of a disappointment anyway. Arthur's not thrilled about it but Matt rushes through his graduation, gets a job with forestry and fire fighting and builds himself and Katya a life. She has an agriculture and business degree but they decide she'll focus on the kids while he takes up more work.
It's not very happy after a while. Matt's always missing things with the kid, Katya's frustrated with the fact she can't commit to as nearly as many opportunities as she makes for herself because she's the primary caregiver. And then one fire season, Matt gets well smoked and when he's bitten by a tick not long after after half assing a tick check because his kid is calling him to play, gets himself some lyme disease. Stubborn as he is to make this work, it isn't until he is literally at his parents with the wean (who is a very cherubic mama's boy named Florian) because a second trimester-pregnant Katya is in Calgary on a business trip and he's literally to sick and lyme-stiff too get out of bed without crying that he's like "fuck it, you win, we need to change and I need a doctor's appointment. Ow." So he's about 26 when he becomes mostly a stay at home father of eventually four. He goes back to school part time in cultural and environmental management and when the kids are older goes back to work part time but he's really happy as a stay at home dad and occasional woodworker because honestly Katya has such clever and absolutely ruthless business brain she does much better as the bread winner lmao.

most annoying politics related thing i see both irl and on tumblr is when ppl hear about protests and actions taken against the government in [insert country with shitty government doing shitty things] and go "wow. i guess there are good people in [country] after all" like damn fr?? who knew! it's almost as if generalizing millions of people due to the actions of a few is dehumanizing and xenophobic 😳

OCD: We don't know what the qualifications of "being a good person" are, or at what point you stop being one, so we're just going to avoid everyone all the time so we don't hurt them :)
Me: But if. You avoid people. How can you help them. Also what about the people you already know who have a vested interest in continuing to talk to you? Wouldn't this hurt them? This doesn't make any sense.
OCD: No :) It doesn't :)
Me: But then--
OCD: Good luck :) :) :)

August: Day 25
Adventures
Spent way too long at the library
Checked out a book that was so old and hadn't been checked out for so long that it was no longer in the library's computer system
Enjoyed an hour of silence at home resting in the peace of the wind outside and the sunlight and shadows of trees flickering on the floor
Read poetry under a tree in the sunset
Writing
Read part of Ruta Sepetys' book on writing
Wrestled with the desire to write a personal, meaningful novel while having no idea what project could fill that need
#adventures in writing#the old book was a lovely old volume of james whitcomb riley's poetry#i loved 'when the frost is on the punkin' in middle school and paging through the book i thought it was perfect for august#i have no idea when the library obtained it#but the copyright page said nothing but 'copyright 1892 by james w riley'#the self-checkout didn't recognize it#and the librarian explained that books will fall out of the system if they're un-checked-out for long enough#which filled me with a secret delight#i was rescuing the poor lonely unloved old book#giving a senior citizen a new chance at life#reading it in the sunset makes me wonder if i could ask the library to sell it to me#they clearly don't need it#and it's such a lovely volume#there's something about reading such an old edition of the book that puts the poems in their proper environment#you can feel the world he was writing about because you're holding a piece of it in your hands#and i just like his poetry#it's sensible poetry if there can be such a thing#not making grand metaphors about nature and the deeper human condition#but just 'there was sunlight on the crick. and a tree. and some butterflies. it was nice.'#plus the country perspective and working-class characters#it's down to earth and homespun and simple and grounded and in love with all the common things of life#and so much of the landscape is so familiar so there's the extra sense of connection#sure some of it gets a bit trite but it's so unpretentious that you can't mind the occasional misstep#and occasionally there's one where the impeccable sense of rhythm he showed in the first poem i loved sneaks up on me and sweeps me away#anyway it was nice it was a good day god is good

a fellow english major, really happy to see someone who's proud of their degree <3
you know that "no love, no matter how brief, is wasted" line? i think the same applies for knowledge too - no matter how useless it may seem, knowledge acquired is never in vain.
#honestly like. idk what your age is but when i was attending uni i kept getting told that i shouldve gone for IT. because the future#- and the money - is there.#now look at the IT companies. the whole thing is crumbling#not to mention the arrogance. that IT degree didnt make you immune to the same old scam tactics did it. how are your nfts doing btw#honestly i never really expected it myself that a humanities degree would prove useful in a daily life type of way#like. sure i knew it wasnt useless but still. its entirely different to experience it in real time yknow#and the whole new wave ''it isnt that deep'' trend is honestly pretty dangerous bc there usually IS something deeper.#a narrative an agenda a propaganda etc.... or simply just capitalist greed#so its needed to read between the lines and see what the point/intention really is#- and thats what literary and other art analysis is making you do! it makes you stop and think#this is all not even mentioning all the political historical and cultural stuff we learned about all the anglo-saxon countries#which all prove to be pretty useful in light of recent events......#so yeah. anyway. dont listen to all those who say its useless (and theres a lot of those even among the ones who chose this major too)#its clearly not. but even if it were it wouldnt matter ehat they think#(i do wish tho that i couldve attended it already on the right meds bc i feel like i forgot A Lot bc of my mental state at the time#but oh well. what can you do)#thank you for the ask it was really nice of you 💞💞💞#ask#anon

Looking forward to the new chapter of UtB! Also I learn a lot hearing your thoughts on fandom culture, and I was wondering why you think puritanism is getting stronger? Lately I’ve experienced it a lot both online and irl.
Hi anon,
I could write like a 10,000 word essay on why I think moral puritanism is getting stronger in the world, and how that intersects with increased moral panic, and 'anti' or fancop behaviour among fandom.
But I think there's more than one reason, and that at the centre of it, is the radicalisation of political extremes alongside the disdain for human life and education in the USA specifically. In non English-speaking cultures, antis are often considered a uniquely American phenomenon, for example. (They're not, but I do think some of the problems start there).
And from there it's necessary to look at:
The high presence of evangelist religion and their millions in USA politics in particular, and the influence this has on the news and government systems from the top down, affecting legislation, what we see on the media, what gets censored, who gets impacted (SESTA/FOSTA etc.) and so on. When companies like Paypal or similar say they won't support certain sites because they don't support sex workers or explicit artwork, we see extremist perspectives being normalised into the mainstream. Puritanism becomes baked into the system, and accepted as normal. And it has a domino effect, taking one thing away usually means to another thing being taken away, and by 'one thing' I usually mean like... equality, access to basic human rights, and more.
The presence of certain billionaire TERFs in UK politics actively working to destroy legislation over there gives a platform to hateful, bigoted extremists of all kinds, including Nazis (as seen in Australia recently, during a TERF event where Nazis turned up in open support). Also, I'd like to add that a lot of anti/fancop thinking is generally SWERF, anti-kink and eventually TERF in nature, and often homophobic and transphobic even when it's perpetuated by queer folk.
A long-term attack (we're talking over several decades now) on education (especially the humanities and any area that teaches critical thinking) including gutting the funding to libraries, colleges, high schools, primary schools and not increasing the pay of teachers, decreasing the general intelligence of US citizens in IQ tests across multiple metrics (except spatial reasoning). This, combined with the lack of emphasis on teaching nuance and critical thinking, means you get people primed to make didactic, black-or-white decisions and often are prone to radicalisation and black-or-white thinking. There's an increasing lack of ability to understand complex or even reasonably moderately complex thinking tasks. A great example of this was re: anti-vaxxers who said 'if masking works so well, why do you need vaccines' because there was a complete inability to understand that just because something works well, doesn't mean it works 100% of the time. There was a consistent inability too, to grok things like the swiss cheese model. That's not the only reason people are anti-vaxxers and there are some extremely smart people who are anti-vaxxers, but among broader populations, a lack of basic appreciation of nuance and risk mitigation in health was a huge issue. (And it's fairly easy to see this happening in many fandom discussions when we discuss how racism in fiction is generally not great, but that rape in fiction does not cause rape in reality.)
I know the above paragraph is long and unwieldy but it doesn't actually come close to capturing a lot of my thoughts on this so slafkjdsa it'll have to do though. The tl;dr is 'the government said philosophy and critical thinking isn't worth money, so a lot of people don't know how to do it, and anyone who can do it is often attacked or viewed with suspicion' (see also: The increasing suspicion and hostility towards experts in their field x.x). (Oh see also: A lot of people thinking YouTube videos count as 'valid research' for their viewpoints, and a lot of folks just...not ever learning how to research in general).
Something something social media privileging inflammatory and provocative takes as well as clickbait etc. encouraging people to often say things in the worst or least nuanced way possible.
The systemic attacks on democratic processes in the USA (and the UK and Australia and many other places).
The loudest and most obnoxious voices are often the people saying the stupidest shit. As in: It will feel like puritans are everywhere (and there's definitely more of them), but they're also just louder and getting more attention than they used to. It's misleading. Anti-vaxxers are actually a tiny minority for example, and antis are a minority in fandom, they're just...the loudest and the most willing to try and murder real people to defend the rights of fictional characters.
Er so. That's some of it anyway. There's more, absolutely, because I could talk about the presence of puritanism in a lot of levels of our experience/s, whether you're religious or not.
It's frustrating writing about this because I fall into the same trap of knowing that I can't talk about this in as nuanced a way as I want to, even if I get to do it in 1000 words instead of like, a miserable amount of characters on Twitter. Anyone thinking 'but it's not always like that!' or 'but not in every situation!' like trust me, I know. But if I sat here caveating everything that deserves a good caveat this post would blow out even more.
Basically if you try to stop educating your people as much, don't teach them how to research, debate or learn (yes, you have to learn how to learn), and don't give them access to basic needs, and gut your democracy/s, and the people at the top believe a fictional being cares if they're virgins or not or have abortions or not, and you don't care if people commit genocide against the children of your nation because that's not as important as the right to kill them in a moment of anger..., and you create a world where the children of your nation are primed to develop PTSD due to the fear of being gunned down while learning, you create a really great environment for radicalisation, extremism, the safety and comfort of puritanism (i.e. following very strict rules in the hope of fixing what's wrong with the world) while people look for a solution to why they feel so empty and hopeless in their lives.

got the train today and this lad sitting opposite me had never taken a train in the uk before so he asked me a couple questions and i showed him how to get the app up to track the route better and we wound up just kind of chatting the entire ride because it turned out he's a student in the same city as me and it was a bit awkward not just because we were complete strangers but because we were both struggling with each other's accents (he only moved from india a few months ago and his english wasn't completely fluent yet and i have an accent that is notoriously bad for foreign-speakers because it's v slang heavy and words/letters blend together and NOTHING gets enunciated so we were both going back and forth with it a bit) but we both just repeated/reworded things when necessary and we chatted for the entire hour and then afterwards he offered me his umbrella and to walk me home and i said no both bc i'd just met him and i didn't want him to get the wrong idea but still we both waved and laughed at each other bc of the rain when we went our seperate ways and yeah. it was just v nice
